Se uno va ai resoconti degli anni prima dello scoppio della prima guerra mondiale, vedrà masse di popolazione, frustrate da decenni di stagnazione economica ed esacerbate da una propaganda giornalistica battente, inneggiare alla guerra desiderosi di “fargliela vedere” al nemico, dipinto come un bruto che fa ciò che fa per puro odio, immotivatamente. I pochi personaggi che allora cercavano di conservare uno spirito critico, come Karl Kraus, venivano denigrati da ogni parte. Un secolo e fischia più tardi non è cambiato niente. L’attacco che Hamas ha organizzato contro Israele è frutto di un percorso lunghissimo, che dovrebbe essere noto, in cui un odio viscerale è stato fatto crescere. La necessaria condanna dello scempio commesso nei confronti di civili inermi non cambia nulla nel quadro generale, dove, come chiaramente espresso anche nell’editoriale di Haaretz di ieri, questi atti belluini sono il risultato di una vicenda che ha responsabili politici ben precisi, di cui Netanyahu è uno dei principali. Comprendere NON significa giustificare, ma questa distinzione cruciale è categorialmente assente nella maggior parte delle scatole craniche. Niente può giustificare, cioè trasformare in qualcosa di giusto, un attacco indiscriminato a civili indifesi (da una parte come dall’altra). Comprendere serve a mettersi nelle condizioni per agire e correggere il tiro. Di fronte ad un genocidio come quello che si profila nella striscia di Gaza il rischio che questo apra un nuovo fronte in Libano da parte degli Hezbollah è elevatissimo (Hezbollah ha esplicitamente detto che interverrà se ci sarà un’operazione dell’esercito nella striscia di Gaza). Hezbollah ha dietro di sé l’Iran. Intanto gli USA hanno inviato una portaerei nucleare e un bombardiere B-52 a sostegno di Israele. L’Arabia Saudita ha chiuso la porta ad ogni processo di normalizzazione dei rapporti con Israele. Alle minacce di Hezbollah Israele ha risposto che un loro intervento contro Israele porterà alla distruzione di Damasco (Hezbollah è alleato della Siria). Ma la Siria è anche alleata fondamentale nello scacchiere medioorientale della Russia, che ha truppe militari in loco. Il domino delle alleanze è pronto a far crollare tutte le tessere, come nel 1914. A parte ciò, ci sono 25 milioni di musulmani in Europa, ed immaginando che una frazione minima, uno su mille, sia radicalizzato, questo significa avere un esercito di 25.000 potenziali terroristi in casa, che di fronte ad atti percepiti come forme di sterminio dei propri “confratelli” potrebbero attivarsi nel cuore dell’Europa. Rispetto a questo quadro, proprio come in passato, la reazione della maggioranza è quella da rissa al bar: “Pensi che abbia paura? Ti faccio vedere io!” Nel 1914 i più bramosi di menar le mani erano quelli che non si erano sbucciati neanche un ginocchio in tutta la loro vita, studenti e borghesia salottiera. Oggi è la stessa cosa, con prevalenza dei salotti. Una volta di più sarà l’imbecillità a distruggerci.
