it's bc the way the heartstopper fandom treats Ben is the way my parents treat me
#the thing about characters is i only obsess over the ones i relate to. but i can't always tell why i relate to them#ben is like. we were both abused we both have stigmatized disorders we're both less than perfectly palatable queers#but also. the way people deny ben's abuse is like. my parents do that to me. y'all aren't special#not only are you ableist it's just like. very abusive behavior on top of that#when i said they weren't safe people before it was just bc of the ableism bc that could send a kid over the wrong edge#which is bad enough#but also i think this kind of thought process. denying people of their own narratives/experiences#is just inherently abusive. not just ableist. not just borderline fascism but active abuse. so there's also that#whoopsie didn't mean to post that just then. oh well. i'm right#i think that's why i get so heated about defending him and the people like him who might stumble into the fandom#bc like. breaking the cycle protecting others from what happened to me yada yada yada
