Kanata Shinkai X Swanee/Twinbee
(a short writing for @newdaybreak on their wedding day, congrats! he goes glub glub…)
Kanata Shinkai has never desired anything before, at least he never could recognize the sentiment. Never wishing, never dreaming. A wandering star, adrift in a sea overflowing with sparks of hope. Though he drifts in these waves, they don’t push or pull him. Rather, they envelop him slowly into a calming song of sirens.
Admiring the seashell he cradled between his fingers, he can’t find it within himself to put it down. Seashells, the eyes of the ocean that gazed upon him as he sat on a small rock on the beach. He relished in the way it healed him, soothed his heart into a soft melody that resembled the bells of a chapel.
His eyes, that of the colors of strands of seaweed, caught in a net that was the gaze of the pearl of his sea. He smiled gently in her direction, offering her the same shell he’d been tracing his fingers across. The setting sun that shimmered across his face shed a glow on it, making that same seashell a pleasant treasure of the sands.
Kanata paused before he gifted it to her, bringing it close to him to plant a careful kiss upon its hard surface. His lips grazed the seashell with the same gentleness he had kissed the bride at his side, perhaps a testament of his love. It could possibly be a wish to place his heart upon her hands, not that he’d ever had any kind of wish of his own but maybe his heart yearned for such a thing. He properly set it upon her fingers.
“I’m very ‘happy’to find that the ‘sea’ gave us many ‘gifts’ on this day. Do you agree, angelfish?” He mumbled gently in reference to what he’d handed her that he’d scavenged from the sand, his voice holding a serenity that mirrored his expression. He watched her nod, content it was mutual.
The sea breeze, ever present as it flowed through their hair, brought a gentleness that Kanata could understand. Did he truly need to understand being human, if he understood that love? The thought made him move to rest his head upon her lap, looking up at her as she looked back.
There were many things he could not grasp, but the ocean that pooled at his feet in this moment as he hydrated his skin was one of the things he could. The love he felt swell in his soul, he could hold onto it. The marine oysters that held stunning pearls, he felt like that. He felt like he was holding a pearl, one that shone with grace and beauty, at his side.
He hummed softly to himself, the tips of his fingers moving to brush pink strands out of his wife’s face. Does he get this serenity forever? Does he get to gently bask in her warmth for eternity? Maybe not, but he’d try to dream of it. Try to wish for it. He’d try to not drift, but to swim. Kanata could always learn after all, he wasn’t alone in this never-ending ocean of the world.
