ruisrock report 7.7.2024
i'm now back home from turku and what a weekend it was! here are some of my thoughts:
i was a volunteer at ruisrock. i did two 7,5 hour shifts checking other volunteers in and out of their shifts and it was so much fun! an easy job, i got to enjoy one full day and two partial days of the festival, i got free food on the two days i had a shift and would've gotten free accommodation too if i hadn't had one already. all worth it :)
i did go see artists other than joker out. my favorites were definitely fröbelin palikat and robin! fröbelin palikat is something the main target audience of ruisrock grew up listening to so it was very nostalgic and there were so many people and literally everyone dancing and singing along to children's music. and robin is just robin, an amazing performer and literally everyone knows his songs
even on our day off we could use the volunteer bus and the crew entrance, so we did, and went to teltta straight away to check the situation. my friend wanted to stay there to secure barricade, but i gave my spot to a girl who wanted to only see the first two acts there
we had the joblr meetup! i loved meeting you all, it was so much fun, and i hope to see you all soon <3 next meetup in slovenia during the balkan tour? 👀
the others went to see käärijä but i felt bad for my friend for disappearing for three hours so i went to the tent after pehmoaino and the girl who i mentioned earlier gave me the spot back!
we could hear käärijä a bit from the tent and it was nice to hear how loud the audience was when erika vikman and joost came on stage
next up in the tent was ege zulu, i only knew like two songs but oh my god his performance was so good! he's a rapper and he had like a show with a proper band and dancers. at one point he just started improvising and singing/talking directly to the audience members and giving compliments and he truly knew what part of the audience he had to win over bc yours truly got complimented on 😂
after ege zulu the first rows started filling up from joker out fans
next up was alok and speaking as a person who does study event management i feel like there might have been some misjudgement from ruisrock's part on the timetables, because the two front rows were really not feeling it and it was very awkward. it would've worked better with joker out having performed before, but of course i know nothing about what their reasoning was
the 1,5 hour wait for joker out went by so fast. we were listening to pmmp from the niitty stage and during their most-well-known songs everyone who knew them was singing along. because of that the vibe in the audience was so good even before the gig started
katri norrlin and this other guy from ylex came to introduce them and even at that people were screaming so fucking loud. i read from jodel that one security person went to get second earmuffs bc it was so loud
after they came on stage nace looked me straight in the eyes and waved at me even though i didn't wave at him like ok??
i don't feel like i've ever been at a more high-energy joker out concert than this. the audience was so loud through the whole concert, the tent was full of people and you could see they got so excited by it and went completely crazy themselves
this one was truly for the shippers of the fandom with just everything that happened on that day
i didn't even realize jere and the others were on the side watching the gig before vse kar vem and i only heard about joost also being there after the concert
seagulls had somehow found their way into the tent and one of them got really scared during šta bih ja and flew around for a while before flying backstage
didn't expect sunny side of london or bele sanje to be on the setlist, but i'm definitely not complaining. ssol was just perfect for this gig
i've taken a video of novi val from every single gig and i was kinda sad that they didn't do it this time, but i do also get why they ended with carpe diem
after the gig we went back to the centre of turku and had an afterparty with some mutuals at a grill kiosk <3
i feel like i've forgotten something but idk i'll add some stuff if i do remember what i had in mind. thanks for reading <3

Art Therapy with a Twist
*** görgess lejjebb a magyar verzióért***
I've been aready writing about my condition with my herniated discs and nerve damage, blabla. And tho I've tried to keep positive, the depression hit me a few times last year. You know it's not easy when your whole life gets blocked from one day to the other. It was almost like a second pandemia, just worse.
Being a physically active person who had to completely stop for a while, I had to find something else to put my energy into. So I've started to do some creative work, and by that I mean handicrafts, costumes, make-up, everything what was connected to theatre. Not a surpise, I've been a theatrical dancer for more than a decade and I've always loved almost every aspect of my job. (Not the muscle pain and early morning practices tho. XD )
So we could say it was just natural for me to dive into cosplaying again, and I have to tell you, creative work really helps, it was my therapeutic activity through my low periods.
I usually keep my hobby page separately from my professional profile, cause many times when people hear the word "COSPLAY" they have some prejudice against it.
I personally find it funny when someone asks, 'what is good in dressing up as a character and go out to meet up a bunch of other weirdos', when they are doing the exact same thing at halloween or carnival.
I tell you the differences tho. Many of us are creating our own costumes. Yes. Fully. That means we are able to sew a full set of clothes, props, sometimes even armors. This requires an incredible scale of skills with different materials and tools already, and we're talking only about creating the costume.
We most of the time do our own make-up. That can go from basic make-up to bodypainting and even beyond, to glued prosthetics and FX.
And we haven't mentioned the wig styling yet. It can go from cutting, shaping, gluing, painting in every color of the rainbow, even bald cap or to the carziest anime hairstyles.
Of course not everyone is a pro or a crafter, but just in one year I met so many talented cosplayers, and if you are at least a bit interested in handicrafts and have a pinch of creativity, you can really learn a lot of things along the way.
Many people are rather enjoying to buy a nice ready-made costume of their favorite character and put more into the "performance" part. They study the mimic, the movements, or going to the lenght of taking for example, acting, dance or martial arts classes to be more authentic.
And then the social media part. Modelling, taking pictures, videos, editing, being present on social media, need some skills as well. And guess what, since it's a hobby for us we don't have managers, only our incredibly talented friends who can help... or we are that friend, and we manage all this to do in our freetime.
So there. Next time you hear the word "cosplayer" note that, you might just talk to a person who is a "whole theatre on two feet."
Love you all!
Wytza
Sokan saját magunk készítjük a kosztümjeinket. Igen, teljesen.
Legtöbben magunk készítjük a sminkjeinket.
A szabadidőnkben.

Trolloctober 28 Day Dance
The first dance. Itzel my Tahaki by my friend English: Rastakhan: * clapping loudly in the middle of the room * Let the dancing begin! * he takes his daughter's hand *
Tahaki * extends her hand to Itzel * Well?
Itzel: Why not! * she puts down her glass and accepts his hand they go dancing *
Tahaki: * not a big dancer, but he tries to get more and more into it and then realizes that he is pushing Itzel *
Itzel: * she's a good dancer, you move confidently and smoothly, as if soaring, she senses Tahaki's uncertainty and tries to help unnoticed, but as he holds her close he blushes slightly and looks up at her *
Tahaki: * Following Itzel's footsteps, he gets more and more into it, smiles down at her *
Itzel: * he's a surprise to her, returns her smile * you've gotten into it quite nicely. * I don't need any more help.
Tahaki: Yeah. Surprise. * holds close *
Itzel: * her bosom presses against his chest, no man has come close to a bow while dancing in 15 years *
But then a new dance begins, a group dance, and Itzel is snatched from his grip. The ladies and gentlemen separate. Then they line up in a neat row facing each other.
Rastakhan gets next to Tahaki, who is having a great time and pats him on the back.
Tahaki: * is a little thrown off, and a little startled by the King, but his cheerfulness overrides his embarrassment. *
Here we go. It's like a rivalry between a man and a woman. First the women go to the men, and then the men step back. Then they go round in pairs again and back again. Itzel to Tahaki. But then comes the mix-up and as they turn Tahaki gets Talanjin, who smiles happily at her. Tahaki doesn't flinch, his adrenaline is pumping, he smiles sweetly at her and bows. The next round goes to Zedrina, who accepts this round a little reluctantly. Tahaki is in too good a mood to take this reaction personally. Meanwhile, he searches for Itzel with his eyes. By the end of the dance, the day will be over. The setting sun paints the blue sky orange.
Tahaki: Huh. I'm really tired. My poor old bones. * grunts *
Itzel: * she's breathing a little too fast * I haven't danced so much in one breath in a long time. * and then looks at the man * You don't look that old.
So ended their first dance, followed by many more. For 20 years for sure. Magyar: Rastakhan: * nagy erővel tapsol a terem közepén * Kezdődjék a tánc! * megfogja lánya kezét *
Tahaki * kezét nyújtja Itzel felé * Na?
Itzel: Miért is ne!
Tahaki: * Itzelt követve a lépésekben, egyre jobban beleéli magát, lenez rámosolyog *
Itzel: * ez a férfi csupa meglepetés neki, viszonozza mosolyát * Egész szépen bele jöttél. * már nem is kell segíteni *
Tahaki: No igen. Meglep.
A tánc végére a napnak is vége lesz. A lemenő nap narancs színekbe festi a kék égboltot.
Tahaki: Huh. Egészen elfáradtam. Szegény öreg csontjaim. * morogja *

Then you might have seen the dancers move and the people tread daintily, executing many fine steps and turns on the fresh grass. There you might have seen flute-players, minstrels, and jongleurs, one singing a rotruenge, another an air from Lorraine, for airs composed in Lorraine are finer than those of any other kingdom. Around and about were many ladies performing admirably with castanets and tambourines, for they kept on throwing the tambourine up in the air and then catching it again on one finger, without ever missing. Two very charming maidens with their hair in a single braid and dressed only in their tunics were led into the dance by Pleasure, who bore himself most nobly, but I need not say how beautifully they danced: one would approach the other very elegantly, and when they were close together, their lips would touch in such a way that you might have thought they were kissing one another's faces. They knew well how to sway in the dance.
Guillaume de Lorris, The Romance of the Rose (trans. by Frances Horgan)

Because @scheherezhad, uwu at me, here's a short companion piece. Bele, the modern dancer.
Contains: masking (literal and figurative), promiscuity as a way to cope
~*~
A spotlight.
Clothes, extravagant. Elegant. Every stitch is perfectly placed.
A mask, held up with a manicured hand, sleek and pale. Every curve of eyebrow dark and cheek rouged. The mask holds a smile that never fades.
A dance. He moves fluidly from one dark-clothed partner to another. His hand doesn't shake, his smile like porcelain. Like a doll. His shirt rips. His hair unravels from its braid.
He dances faster, his feet fleet across the stage.
His next partner drops him and doesn't look back. Exit, stage left.
The stage is empty but for the dancer, frozen in tableau. Stuck mid-fall, muscles quivering with strain. Mask perfect. Smile painted.
The mask falls. Reveals blue eyes and smeared mascara.
The mask returns to its correct position, and the dancer plants his feet, staring out over the audience.
The light goes out.
~*~
another fill for @saekhwa since she's apparently the only one in groupchat who wants fic :P
.
Going to the black box theater
contains: implied unhealthy sexual relationship(s), implied depression
.
A bed. A figure lying on the far side, facing away from the audience, the bedding on the near side rumpled. A shadow passing through a doorway off stage. The figure on the bed curled in on itself. Fade to black.
Lights up, a slightly different bedroom. The same figure in the bed, a different shadow.
Another bedroom, another bedroom, another bedroom. The figure did not move.
Another bedroom. The lights shifting through cycles of day and night, the figure still unmoving for long minutes, time dragging out into something uncomfortable. Fade to black, long enough for the audience to wonder if it was over.
Lights up, a figure sitting on the edge of a bed. He reached for something on the floor, moving gingerly, and he put his clothes on slowly. He stood and started toward the door. On the way, he caught a look at himself in a mirror and quickly looked away, arms wrapped tight around himself. He exited, and he did not cast a shadow.
.
author's notes: here's some vague context, idk. this prompt turned into a bit of an experimental piece, modern au in which Memir is a performance artist. i imagine Bele is in the audience and really, really wants to talk to Memir after the show but also doesn't want to freak out the attractive but obviously traumatized artist by crying at him about how the performance touched him because he's a survivor, too, and then asking him to dinner >.>

Klubdélután a rudolftelepi Petőfi Sándor Általános Iskola tornatermében.
Az alkalomra készített egy válogatás kazettát, amelyre sikerült felvennie a Juventus kívánságműsorból a Glenn Madeirostól a Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You-t.
