6 Facts about Serenity Ukai

Serenity Ukai is an OC Haikyuu character the half younger sister of Tenma Udai and the No. 13 on the Karasuno all boys volleyball team having been invited by Daichi due to his promise to play volleyball with her in high school. Serenity has pale white hair that is always up in a ponytail. Her skin is a smooth brown color that Shoyo states glimmer when the sun hits it and her eyes are a ruby red that was once shadowed but brightened up over time.

Her embodiment. Serenity embodies trust issues, having been backstabbed, bullied and mocked for being adopted many times causing her to break down mentally to the point she hardly trusts anyone but a select few who manages to break through to her and give her some help. These trust issues play a major part in her growth, learning that not everyone is out to embarrass or backstab her but rather there are people out there who will walk beside her and help her grow as her own person. Her trust issues begin to come to an end during the march with Shiratorizawa in which the others celebrate her smile on the court before resuming the game.

Love interest. Serenity's love interest of Kenma Kozume of Nekoma. She first meets Kenma during the Training Camp in which he embarrasses himself in front of her by asking if she wanted to learn how to play his game in which Kuroo calls it love at first sight. Serenity ignores Kenma for the majority of the time, finding him boring, tacky and useless but quickly eats her words when he proves to be a formidable opponent. Their relationship secretly grows on and off screen with Serenity having lots of texting and phone calls conversations with Kenma and even playing games he recommended to her when she was taking a break from practicing. In the timeskip the two are revealed to be married and living a happy comfortable life together.

Tenma Udai. Tenma, the former Little Giant, is confirmed to be Serenity's half elder brother and the one who pulled her out of that dark space. Tenma first appears after wanting to reach out to Serenity when he finds out they're related but gets harshly rejected, despite that he gives her a few encouraging words which makes her have a mental crisis a out whether she should trust her teammates, zoning out on the court. Serenity snaps out of it when she hears a voice call her name and looks to see Tenma holding a sign that says "Go Serenity, my Little Sister", which brings her back to reality and starts the end of her trust issues. This also begins their sibling relationship, Tenma and Serenity becoming close as time goes on.

Serenity's parents. Serenity was dropped off when she was a baby at an orphanage and lived there until she ran into Keishin Ukai who states that he adopted her because she clung to his pants leg and refused to let go. She has a stable relationship with her adoptive father who didn't support her being on the boys team at first but later puts his faith in her and lets her know that he believes in her. Family wise they're a usual father-daughter Dynamic, having funny moments and serious moments with one another. Even the boys, Kiyoko and Yachi state that they have an envious relationship with each other.

Serenity's main goal. After starting to get over her trust issues, Serenity's goal was to prove that women are as great as men. Even when talked down upon by Tendou about her lacking skills, she remained strong and bit back at him without hesitation. She always does her best in each Volleyball Match, showing no fear when going up against stronger opponents. In the timeskip, Serenity is revealed to be apart of the Men's National Volleyball Team and the MSBY Black Jackal, having been scouted by them due to her performance in her youth and this bringing her closer to her goal.

“Not so fast there,” Ennoshita mused. He slid over to sit thigh to thigh with ______ and looked down to her. She wouldn’t dare look up at him, choosing to focus on her textbook on the table. Her hands shook and she struggled to keep herself from jumping out the window in her room.

“______,” he cooed. “I don’t bite. Unless you want me to.”

“E-Ennoshita, pl...pl-please don’t t-tease me about th-this...”

“But you’re so cute when you get all flustered.” _______ felt her ears burning and gulped. And at this Ennoshita softened a bit. “You know, I was planning to confess to you after your exam. I was...hoping to help you get a good grade and then say something, heh..”

“En-Ennoshita,” ______ whined. She finally looked up to him with glassy eyes and a pout.

“How about if you get a good grade, we’ll go on our first date, hm?”

Koganegawa

Koganegawa had been chasing you all morning and now that practice had come around, there was no escape

You made sure to come in late, saying you got held up cleaning the classroom on afternoon duty

And things seemed to be calm for a good portion of the beginning of practice

But when breaks came, you busied yourself with Futakuchi, pretending to have manager and captain matters to discuss when in reality you were just bugging Kenji to avoid Koganegawa

You heard rumors about how he was planning on confessing and asking you to be his girlfriend, and no matter how much you liked the guy, the anxiety bubbled up in you and you got scared

You had a huge crush on Kanji but the fear of him making a scene or being extra, had you sprinting away and hiding from him all day, sadly

And as practice came to an end, you realized there was no getting out of this one

______ finished cleaning up, locking the equipment closet when she felt a presence behind her. Her spine went stiff as she removed the keys from the lock. Frick, frick, frick. They weren’t saying anything. It had to be either Aone or Kanji. But Aone would’ve tapped her shoulder by now. Why wasn’t Kanji saying anything at all?

She peeked over her shoulder, and sure enough, there stood the freshman. He smiled and opened his mouth to speak but before he got anything out, ______ took off sprinting. She didn’t know where she was going but she found her legs sprinting. Futakuchi was luckily in the direction she was headed, and she ducked behind him, gripping the back of his jacket tightly.

“Woah there! What’s going on?” he questioned, trying to pry her off.

“______-chan! I just wanna ask you something!” Kanji yelled out.

“Oh, god,” ______ heard Futakuchi groan. He stopped struggling with the manager and turned to the first year. “Oi. Whatever you gotta say, just say it to me. I’ll pass it on to behind.”

Apparently, that was enough to satisfy Kanji as he nodded, straightening up. ______ could hear him take a deep breath before he blurted out his confession. “I’ve liked you for some time. Please go out with me!”

In any other situation, ______ would have been on the floor laughing over the shocked expression she could see on Aone, who was approaching’s, face. He was headed towards Futakuchi, and clearly hadn’t seen ______ cowering behind him, and thought Koganegawa had confessed to Futakuchi. And that poor man looked mortified that he just watched it all unfold before him.

But her moment with that thought was short lived as Futakuchi turned around, looking to _______. He pointed with his thumb over his shoulder as he relayed the message. “Chicken boy wants to go out with you.”

Futakuchi placed a hand on ______’s shoulder, attempting to relax her a bit upon getting a good look at her. She looked so overwhelmed by everything. Her ears were red. Her cheeks were red. She looked like she was going to combust. And to top it all off, she seemed to be breathing heavy. “Hey, it’s okay. You can say no.”

“Th-That’s not it-!”

“Eh?”

“I-I-I...I get anxious and sh-shy about these th-things.”

Futakuchi dropped to her height a bit, looking at the flustered manager in the eyes. He whispered to her in astonishment then, “So you like chicken boy?”

_______ nodded, nails digging into her palms. “I-I just...was afraid o-of him being....dr-dramatic. I-I don’t like big scenes...”

“Ahhhh,” Futakuchi exhaled, nodding in understanding. “Well. I’ll let ‘im know. Kay?”

“Th..Thank you, Kenji...”

With that, he straightened up, turned around and sighed. “She accepts.” ______ peeked out from Futakuchi’s side, still trying to break her shyness.

“R...Really?!”

“M...Mhm...” she nodded, eyes flicking from the floor to Kanji.

He didn’t even hesitate in swooping behind Futakuchi, hugging onto ______, squealing.

“K-Koganegawaaa!”

“Let’s go! I’ll walk you home, ______!”

Sugawara

As you approached the college prep classroom, you felt your hands grow sweaty

Asahi had long ago introduced you to Sugawara and Daichi, and you fell for Suga and his charms almost immediately

It was lunch and you had been convinced by Asahi, who sat behind you in class, to make an extra for Sugawara as a way to confess

But its been a week straight and you couldn’t even step foot in the classroom, so as a result you kept eating the extras or splitting them with Asahi

But this time, it was Monday. A new week. A new attempt.

As you peaked into the classroom, you spotted Sugawara with Daichi. And Asahi.

It was as if he was waiting for you. When did he even sneak out of your guys’s classroom and into this one?

He waved you over and called out your name, making Suga and Daichi turn

You were trapped with no way out

“H...Hey Asahi,” ______ waved back. She approached the trio and kept her eyes locked on the bento, trying to keep her composure.

“______! It’s good to see you,” Daichi spoke up.

“Yeah. We haven’t seen you around for a while. I’m glad you’re doing alright,” Suga chimed in. For a brief moment _______ looked up, catching Sugawara’s warm eyes and felt herself melt. Why was he always so kind? This wasn’t even fair.

“Why don’t you join us?” Asahi asked.

“Oh, uhm, I-I....m-my lunch is...”

“Oh that’s not yours in your hand? Hm? I guess it does have a different cloth than your usual one.”

She felt her ears begin to burn with the three sets of eyes on her. What was Asahi doing? Come on, just let her go sit back down in her classroom and wallow in self pity.

“Oh! Right! Isn’t that for, Su-!”

______ hadn’t typically been a violent individual but in that moment, her body moved on its own. She literally smacked her hand over Asahi’s mouth and looked at him with wide eyes that told him to drop it. But Asahi sent back a blank stare almost as if to say this was her chance.

“It’s for someone, _______?” Daichi spoke up. Shit. Way to go, Asahi.

“U-Uhm, well, y-yeah..”

“Ah, ______-chan’s got a lil crush, hah? Who is it?”

_______ felt her body stiffen. The weight of all three pairs of eyes bore down on her again and she felt sick to her stomach. Her eyes went wide and she gulped. There’s no getting out of this, is there?

“Su-Sugawara...” was the best she could manage. It came out as a whisper and she gently set the bento down, hiding behind Asahi. Though, it seemed neither Daichi nor Sugawara caught it as they looked to Asahi. To this he gave a soft smile and pointed to Suga.

“F-For me?!” Suga choked. His cheeks were painted red as he looked to the girl hiding behind Asahi. A smile crept up on his lips but before another word could make it out, he watched her sprint off. “_-______!”

Asahi was quick to slide the bento over to Sugawara before standing. “S-She’s probably back in our classroom.”

“I’ll handle this, Asahi. Don’t worry, okay?” Suga grabbed the bento by its wrapped cloth and smiled softly. “I’ll see you after break.”

And off he went to the next class over. He easily spotted the gal he was after as she sat near the back. He noticed that she worked fast and already had her own lunch out as shaky hands held her chopsticks. Poor gal, Suga thought, as he carefully approached. He squatted down next to her seat and looked up at her, as she focused on her lunch.

“______-chan,” he whispered up to her. “Can I eat with you?”

______ nearly jumped out of her seat upon hearing him. And turning to see Suga squatting, smiling up at her, took every fiber of her being to not scream in panic.

“Pretty please? I really like you, ______-chan. And I wanna eat with the girl that I like who made me lunch.”

“I-I...Y-You like me?”

“Of course, silly. So, can I stay?”

“Y...Y-Yes!”

Yamaguchi

You and Yamaguchi were in the same class, and your singular common factor was Hinata

Hinata and you had been friends for quite some time, going back to grade school

And it seemed when he visited to bug the boy with glasses, who sat next to you in your class, you managed to get roped into the fiasco

You’d calmly and kindly explain concepts to him and his friend Kageyama but they still seemed to struggle

It wasn’t you, the main issue was the two’s beef with Tsukishima, glasses guy

Whenever the three got into a big argument, Yamaguchi would direct your attention else where, asking if you’d like to study together in the library

And that’s how your study dates began

It was lunch again, and ______ watched as Hinata came running in, Kageyama right by him, as per usual making a competition out of even the smallest things. She made sure to greet them as they made a b-line to Tsukishima.

Yamaguchi joined the group shortly, giving a warm smile to _______. Something that didn’t go unnoticed by the other boys. Hinata and Tsukishima bith gave their respective friend a look then, causing both to get a bit warm.

Typically, that was where that interaction ended. But today was different as Hinata stared into her soul, shiteating grin plastered on his face as he said allowed, “Hey, _______, Yamaguchi? How long did you plan on keeping your relationship a secret?”

______ felt her soul leave her body in that moment. She felt hot and cold at the same time. Her stomach churned and she was suddenly thankful that she was sitting, feeling her legs go weak. And Yamaguchi wasn’t any better, as his entire face went bright red.

Before either could compose themselves, Tsukki chimed in. “Oh, you confessed? I’m surprised Yamaguchi.”

“Tsukki!!” the poor boy shrieked.

“Congrats on your relationship,” Kageyama added in a monotone voice. God, they even got him in on it.

When Yamaguchi turned to ______, she had her head down on her desk and her ears burned red. She looked as if she had passed away. And the kindness in his heart allowed Yamaguchi to set aside his embarrassment to make sure ______ was okay. He set a hand on her back, rubbing gentle circles.

“St-Stay with us, ______!”

That cheeky tangerine opened his mouth again, snickering, “Give her a minute. You have nothing to be worried about.”

“_-______ is -“

“Head over heels for you? We all know,” Tsukki interjected. If she wasn’t already down for the count, you would’ve seen the lights fade from ______’s eyes and her soul depart from her body. “Once she recovers you should work things out, though.”

“Wh...When will that be? - w...Wait she...she likes me?”

Yamaguchi was the next one down, a dazed look melting onto his face. He found himself sitting in the empty seat behind ______, a giddy but dreamy look and aura to him.

“Hehe..._______ likes me back..”

And at that moment Hinata, Kageyama, and Tsukki found themselves agreeing for once as looked to their friends, mumbling, “Weirdos..”

Lev

This little rascal came sprinting into your classroom first thing in the morning on Monday and at that very moment you knew, what was going down just from the look in his eyes and smile on his face

You squeaked and ran right out and made your way to Kenma’s class in a panic

It was too early in the morning for this!! Who even spilled the beans?! Was it Kuroo? Maybe Taketora?!

Either way, you found Kenma and practically clung onto him, whining about how Lev was chasing after and you think he found out about your crush

He let you hide under his desk, hugging his legs for comfort and began to pat your head

That was when Kenma graciously revealed the little weasel that spread your secret - Taketora....kinda

Taketora had told his little sister who had told Lev’a sister during a game, who asked Lev when he was bringing home his girlfriend. Which only lead to Lev asking what she meant, to which she relayed the information

You’d get Taketora back later but the 6’4 menace stepped into the room, spotting Kenma immediately and walking over

“Kenma!” he called out happily. ______’s heart was racing as she saw his feet approaching. There was no way he didn’t see her. But, then again, Lev wasn’t always the brightest..

“Ah, hi Lev.”

“Do you mind letting me borrow ______?”

Shoot. He did see her. Kenma sighed though, wiggling his legs in an attempt to be released from ______’s grasp. “Come on out, ______. There’s no use hiding.”

A heavy sigh left her lips as she let go, scooting out from under the desk. But..

Bump!

“O-Ow,” she whined softly. ______’d unfortunately smacked her head on the underside of Kenma’s desk, trying to get out.

“Ah, ______!” Lev was quick to kneel down. He placed his hand over hers that rubbed at the spot. “Are you alright?”

“I-I’m okay..”

“Let’s go get you some ice or a cold drink to put on it, okay? To be safe!”

Giving a shy nod, _____ took the hand that Lev extended to her. With one last glance to Kenma, she was pulled off by Lev. He gave her hand a gentle squeeze as he headed off to the vending machines. His tall body acted almost like a shield for ______ as he weaved around students who were arriving for class.

“L...Lev. I-I’ll be okay..”

“We’re already half way there, though. I’ll walk you to class after, too.”

______ fell silent, unable to protest him. He was so sweet. A little flighty, but sweet. And very fast. His long legs often got places quickly. But she noted that he seemed to have slowed his pace for her. It was only a little, but it was enough that she wasn’t running to keep up with him. But still, he was naturally pretty fast, so it wasn’t a surprise when they ended up at the vending machines in record time.

“Hmmmm,” Lev hummed. He looked over all the choices before dispensing his yen and vending out a bottle of water. And as soon as it had dropped, Lev had it gently held to the top of ______’s head. “There we go.”

“Th..Thank you..”

“Of course. Anything for my girl!”

“Y...Y-You’re girl?”

Oh, the smile on his face was angelic and so sweet. There weren’t enough adjectives in the world to describe it. He looked so happy and had a pink just barely dusting his cheeks.

“Y...Yeah. You know, if that’s okay?”

“I...I-I think,” ______ began. She cleared her throat, and looked up to Lev through her lashes. “I’d like that.”

Someone save that boy cause he nearly combusted.

Tendou

Tendou knew about your crush and had known for quite some time now

He liked teasing you though and wanted to see if you’d be brave enough and confess

But things weren’t going that well in your confidence department

You had made him chocolate on Valentine’s day but...you forgot to leave a card or note or anything so he’d know they were from you

And they had a confession spelled out, the bigger chocolate heart with the kanji for ‘daisuki’ written in pink frosting

But Tendou was ever a patient one

As White Day rolled around, you found yourself yawning as showed up for class, plopping down

Truth be told, you forgot the day entirely so you were more surprised than anything when some of the team members dropped by to give you chocolate

But no Tendou in sight

______ made her way back to her dorm and kicked off her shoes. It was a very long day of practice, and Washijo was never opposed to making the manager workout right along side the boys. She practically ripped off her warmups, trading them in for a hoodie and shorts.

“Ah, it’s getting late. I should make something,” she mumbled as she turned the air conditioning unit on. She was lucky that the air hit her perfectly when she was in bed. It felt so refreshing after spending the afternoon in a sweaty, hot gym.

She plopped down on her bed, thinking of what to eat but found herself far too comfy. Soon enough, she was dozing off, not even upset about Tendou not giving her chocolate. He probably forgot just like she had. It’s not like he liked her, right? If she even was lucky enough to get chocolate from him, it’d be as a friend it a teammate. Nothing more, nothing less.

______ allowed herself to doze off completely for a few hours before she was abruptly woken by incessant knocking on her dorm door. To say it woke her up in a panic would be an understatement. Her roommate wasn’t there, and was spending the night with her boyfriend, so if something went wrong, what was she to do?

A thousand possibilities filled her anxious little head as she slipped out of her bed. ______ tiptoed to the door, hand on her heart. The knocking was still going and didn’t seem to be letting up. It was a crying shame, at least at this moment, that the dorm doors didn’t have peepholes.

“______!~ It’s Tendou!” called out a voice from the other side of the door. Suddenly, ______’s heart rate sped up even more. She rather it be a killer at this point. What was he doing here? How’d he know which dorm she was in? “Open up! It’ll be quick!”

Frick! Frick! Okay. Just...play it cool.

As she tried to calm her breath, ______ unlocked and opened the door. She squinted from the bright hall lights and met Tendou’s eyes. He looked so giddy. And comfy too. He was in casual clothes for once.

“I know it’s late but I have white day chocolate!”

“I...O-Okay,” _______ yawned, taking the little bag of goodies from him. She still squinted, struggling to adjust to the light. “Th...The lights are..”

“Oh! I..was hoping you’d read them. Heheh, but if my favorite manager is sleepy, she’s welcome to rest,” he cooed.

“T-Tendou...I’m the only manager..”

“Still my favorite!” ______ just groaned, hiding her face in the door. “You know. I made those myself from scratch. I’d love to hear what you think.”

“Y..You did?”

“Mhm! May I come in?”

“S..Sure.” ______ moved aside, letting Tendou slip in. She didn’t bother turning on the light as moonlight seeped in through the windows and was more than enough. She sat down on the edge of her bed, grabbing a stuffed elephant to hug, and began to unwrap the plastic that held the chocolate hearts.

Tendou slowly sat down, admiring the stuffed animals and smiled softly. Cute, he thought. He mirrored _______, snatching a teddy bear to hug close. He eagerly waited for her to read the bigger heart, leg bouncing a bit.

Her sleepy eyes read the white frosting the had the kanji for ‘daisuki’ and part of her got hopeful, but the other half felt a weight drop in her stomach. So, he did see her chocolate and knew it was her. “T...Tendou, a...a-are you making fun of me?”

“Wha..?”

“Y-You d-didn’t have to g-go this far..”

Tendou could hear her voice getting weak and he panicked. He thought it’d be so cute returning the favor. He knew it was her. What other girl was going to confess to him? He reached out, placing a gently hand on her knee to grab her attention.

“It’s a response. Not a prank, silly. I like you.”

“Y..Y-You knew it was m-me that left you those on V-Valentine’s Day?”

“Yep.”

“Wh-Wha...! T...Tendou ..”

“Hey, hey. No pouting, pretty girl. You still gotta tell me what you think of the chocolate. I’m counting on you to be my taste tester from now on. Got it?”

Sugawara is an evolved backpack kid. (overly friendly, always prepared, is okay being in the background, happy to be here, only one of two REALLY close friends)

Asahi was ABSOLUTELY a boy scout. Like, all the way to his freshman year. Daichi and Suga teased him so he quit.

Kageyama practices how to talk kindly to his teammates by pretending his volleyball is one of them, but gets frustrated and gives up and slams the ball because how the fuck could he ever be nice to those dummies???

Ushijima bakes well, but his favorite things to bake are pastries, especially with chocolate, for Tendou. He also has the best apple pie recipe in ALL of Shiratorizawa.

Tanaka is actually an amazing piano player, but he keeps it a secret from everyone because he's kind of embarrassed. Noya knows, and like a good friend, he stays quiet until his bestie is ready to come forward.

Nishinoya collected POGs in his childhood, but has since gained an impressive Funko POP collection.

Iwaizumi cries at sappy movies. He loves romance and chick flicks. Catch him at home after practice choking up while watching Titanic. Man is in full-blown sobs by the time My Heart Will Go On is playing.

Oikawa listens to Eye Of The Tiger while running religiously. He saw Rocky one fucking time, and now he can't help himself.

Daichi knows how to fix anything. It's almost annoying. Bleachers wont open up? Daichi. The bus engine won't turn over? Daichi. Hinata gets tangled up in the net somehow? Daichi.

Kuroo is great at science and loves it very much, but he's failing art class. Like, it's the easiest class. You don't even have to try that hard in art, but jesus somehow that man is flunking.

Tsukishima likes to build dinosaur dioramas and statuettes, and probably has those glow-in-the-dark sticky stars on his ceiling still from when he was a kid.

Bokuto is scared of spiders and makes Akaashi get rid of them for him. That big ol' himbo walks in to the volleyball club room to grab the supplies for practice, spots a teeny little spider, and squeals like Yachi. He's all teary eyed and stuttering for Akaashi to come take care of the bug, and Akaashi just rolls his eyes and scoops up the little guy and brings him outside. Once the ordeal is over, Bokuto pretends like he wasn't just whimpering like a baby the whole time. He'll deny it to everyone.

Kenma. This boy is quiet, all the time. There's only one time of year that gets him hype and loud: E3. Kuroo makes the whole team get together and watch E3 with Kenma so that they can support their fellow teammate in his interests. This is Kenma's Superbowl. Every time they announce a new game, the blonde spins around and deadpans everyone and just mutters, "I want it for my birthday. Don't forget."

Hinata plays dolls with his little sister sometimes, and once Kageyama came over to practice and found Shoyo in his room with his sister, playing. Somehow Kags got roped in to playing too. He got stuck with the doll no one wanted, with the nappy matted hair and ugly clothes. Eventually Kageyama and Hinata end up arguing, as their dolls, over an imaginary boyfriend. Hinata's sister had to break them up.

Yamaguchi is a quiet little book nerd, but his guilty pleasure is Twilight. He remembers every little detail, went to the movies when they came out and nitpicked over every detail, and has an Edward Cullen poster in his room. If someone said they were Team Jacob, he'd lie and say he was too. He spent his summer chore money on a copy of Breaking Dawn signed by Robert Pattinson- he found it on eBay.

Tendou is a burnout gifted kid. Part of his hyperactivity is a way of getting back the attention that he once used to receive in his youth for being so gifted. He won the spelling bee three years running!

Akaashi has a very tedious and particular hair care and skincare regime. He dedicates the last hour of his night to ensure his follicles and pores are properly tended to.

The Miya twins have dick measuring contests, except instead of measuring and then telling each other their sizes, they just straight up whip out their dicks in the locker room. They do it once a week in case someone might have had a growth spurt. Suna is not amused, but that's mostly because he knows he'd win, but he would never have the balls to prove it. One day he lets it slip under his breath, and now Osamu and Atsumu keep trying to sneak a peek.

Sukusa gives off BIG SHELDON COOPER ENERGY. Aside from him spraying disinfectant around him like he'll catch the plague from breathing the air around him, he knows a bunch of interesting facts about a lot of things. He will "Did you know" the fuck out of you. He always has to be right, but not in a snobby way- he just doesn't care for misinformation being spread.

Coach Ukai plays Latin music while cleaning his shop Sunday mornings. If you manage to be out that early, and find yourself walking past the Ukai convenience store, you might just hear the blonde man belting out along to Julio Igesias, Prince Royce, or his favorita: Selena Quintanilla. He'll be doing the salsa or the cumbia while Coma La Flor bumps through his bluetooth speaker.
