also he can still be cis. Its extremely harmful for cis people to think they're trans the second they don't play the gender stereotypes game perfectly. Especially because this is HARSHLY skewed against men. Women get so much more leniency in their style to be masculine before were "too manly" vs a man who cant do literally anything before secretly being trans.
I understand thats not the point of the post exactly but it needs to be said. Part of why finn feels he isnt cis is probably because of societies hatred of gnc men. (go beyond harry Styles in a skirt and youll see my point)
just saw a clip where f1nn5ter was saying how at this point, he can’t be cis, but at the same time, he doesn’t feel like he’s trans—he’s just neither. and someone in chat was like “you can’t be neither cis nor trans that’s not how it works” i love finn but why is his chat so fucking bad 😭 stop recreating binaries for the love of god, identity does not have to fall into these neat little boxes for you to police

aaaaah no i saw another "Izzy can't be homophobic you idiot I headcanon him as gay and anyway, he's right to hate Stede for being soft and inexperienced and rich" post send help (ik all of this has been said before and better, I just need to get it out of my system)
First of all, Izzy is a white and maybe not straight but definitely traditionally masculine man in a society where racism/sexism/homophobia/associated bigotry exist. Okay? Okay. These things exist in the ofmd universe, there's no arguing that away. It therefore stands to reason that Izzy, who grew up in that environment, harbours homophobic sentiments, because it is literally impossible to avoid that.
Detesting Stede for being effeminate and gnc is homophobia. Plain and simple. That's the core of homophobia. It's not about who someone finds attractive in their heart, it's about doing gender wrong. It's not so much about who you have sex with, but how you're doing it.
(And this is what Izzy and Calico Jack and the Badmintons and everone who ever bullied him hate about him. It's not that he's upper class. It's not that he's rich. It's this.)
Homophobia and the patriarchy go hand in hand. Under patriarchy, anything masculine is good and superior and anything feminine is weak and detestable. A good man, a proper man is defined by what he isn't (=not ever feminine), and any association with femininity is degrading. This is why Stede is called a woman (derogatory) by people who are perfectly aware he is a guy, why he's called Baby Bonnet: Both these things say You are not a real man. Does anyone who hurls abuse at him think he's gay? Who knows! It's well known he's married and has children, for fuck's sake! But it doesn't matter what's in Stede's heart, it matters how he behaves, how he speaks and carries himself, his interests, his inability to fit it.
Why do you think he's called fat when he isn't as an adult and wasn't as a child? It's the same thing, it's not logical, just a way for people to express their vague discomfort with him in the most hurtful way possible.
The way Izzy talks about him and the way the Badmintons talk about him parallel each other and that's not a coincidence. Izzy talks about Stede as having "done something" to Ed's "brain", Chauncey Badminton says he "ruined" Ed, that he's "not human" and a "monster". This is the exact violent, dehumanizing rhetoric that has forever been flung at gnc gay men, effeminacy as a corrupting, contagious influence, good upstanding manly men being seduced (hah!) into the Gay Lifestyle. You're not a person, you're a disease.
Fop and ponce may be old fashioned but they are also homophobic slurs.
Izzy doesn't detest the upper class. He has no trouble at all weaponizing his whiteness against Ed when he sends the English after him, when he attempts to buy Ed for himself with Stede's life. Izzy can fit into that world well enough to use it for his own gain as long as it will let him, and sure, he'll be crushed as soon as he's no longer useful but that doesn't stop him from aligning himself with the literal enemy, does it? That's what makes Izzy a class traitor (derogatory) btw, and why analysis that tries to paint him as "just a working class guy who hates the rich" a little silly.
("We're not bigots we are just ordinary salt-of-the-earth working class guys who hate the out of touch liberal elite and anyway, they're all perverts" hmmm, where have I heard this before?)
It's baffling to me that people watch this show and genuinely think "Izzy isn't homophobic, he just hates Stede because he's rich" is a good argument like??? Who expresses this exact sentiment in the show????
Look. I know where this comes from. I too read Izzy as queer. But queer people are perfectly capable of being homophobic towards each other.
Izzy can accept Ed having sex with men who are not him. He's fine with that, and sure, that seems to be proof that He can't be homophobic! at first glance. But, under patriarchy, not liking women sexually is - well, maybe not ideal but under certain circumstances acceptable (after all, under patriarchy, not liking women is perfectly reasonable and encouraged, so it's not a huge leap). But what is not acceptable, what needs to be violently suppressed at all costs, is men being insufficiently masculine.
Which is what Izzy detests about Stede, and what he attacks Ed for in ep10. And this is homophobia in a nutshell.

-intersex people have been discriminated against in many similar ways that gay and trans people have, so they are very much welcome in the movement for everyone's rights. are you going to tell a gay intersex person that they don't belong in the movement?
-nope, they are all existing people who embrace their own genders and orientations. if a two-spirit gay wants to celebrate their identity, are you going to tell them that they don't belong?
-gender nonconformity is a part of the genderqueer umbrella indicated by the letter Q. cis and trans people can both be GNC. we don't automatically assign someone as trans just because they're GNC, the whole point is that people are free to express their own gender their own way. good for you on being a masculine woman, that doesn't give you the authority to tell trans men that they can't be men.
-the Q also stands for questioning, whether this be questioning gender or orientation. being questioning doesn't make them automatically straight or gay, they could be pan too.
-who here is fighting to take your rights away? homophobes and transphobes are, trans people sure as hell aren't.
-you must be living under a rock then cause we're literally just ordinary people. we simply aren't the gender we were assigned at birth and we want to participate in society. compare us to homophobes and transphobes who literally beat children to death, call us degenerates and sodomites, and actively legislate away our access to healthcare and tell me, who are the hateful, violent, angry ones here? have you ever talked to a trans person in your life in a context that isn't an argument?
-how so?? cis LGB and trans LGB can and do coexist perfectly fine, except you're the ones making a big stink about it because you refuse to accept that trans women are women. no one is saying you HAVE to date them or that you're automatically transphobic if you don't, you shitheads are the ones making up all of that.
-we literally fucking don't do that. we know that gays are people just like any other, we are not the ones calling you perverts, the republicans are the ones doing that. some crazies might insert fetish into pride, LGB and TQ+ are equally capable of doing that, but the vast majority of us aren't doing that.
genuinely no one on the left is dehumanizing homosexuals, and trans allies especially aren't. i don't know what the hell kind of propaganda you've seen but if you can stop dehumanizing trans people by calling us hateful and violent fetishists thatd be great
By cutting out the TQ+, you also cut out:
-Intersex people
-Two-spirit gays and other culturally connected gays
-Gender nonconforming people
-Those who are questioning their sexuality
-Gays, lesbians, and bi's who are supportive of trans people
-Millions of kind, loving, supportive humans who have gone through indescribable, traumatic abuse and wish to build a safe, welcoming community
Why are you so eager to exclude and belittle people? Why do you tell them they 'don't know what real struggle looks like' when their healthcare, their future, and their lives are under attack? Do you truly value 'love', or do you just want to swat away as many people as possible? Why do you continue to hide under a rock and dig yourself deeper into festering hatred, when you can simply come out and support people who can help you?
Wouldn't it be easier to unite with our trans and nonbinary friends to help defeat the growing threat of genuine fascism in our country? Those conservative Christian nationalists and white supremacists who tell you you're "one of the good ones" would gladly turn around and shoot you in a heartbeat, because when they say they're fighting the 'woke gender ideology', they'll mutter in the same breath that you gays are 'degenerates', 'sodomites', and 'animals'. Why would you side with the villains, who see you the same way they see us?
We cannot let oppression continue in any form. We will all be on the winning side of history as we step closer to ending the cycle of hatred and bullying. Open your hearts and minds and you'll find that the everyone around you is just as human as you, and are more similar to you than you'd think. Trans people are people, just like you, and we need your help and support just as much as you need ours.
Isn't it neat how people who are supportive of all LGBTQ+ identities are also kinder, more loving, more empathetic, and more caring towards their friends and loved ones? Just something to think about.
Love wins. Trans rights are human rights.
