question for the l&ds community

it’s not the first time that there’s a huge online backlash against queer fan portrayals of the characters (which is apparently a huge no-no in otome games) and I get the audience is female centric and it’s a game that strictly sticks to heteronormativity and all that—but some people get soo offended by seeing gay fanart/fics of these characters that it’s borderline homophobic and it seems like it’s a similar behavior globally regardless of language—it’s a fanbase player thing, to repudiate anything that appears lgbt, even if it’s fake. but people go out of their way to attack fans for just creating something that doesn’t align with their vision.

so i guess my question is how people feel about lgbt fan portrayals and if there really is a line that shouldn’t be crossed
