Asghar Fahardi made a few of the greatest movies in Iranian  cinema. Here are a few others:
Taste of Cherry. D: Abbas Kiarostami (1998). A man named Mr. Baadi (Homayoun Ershadi) drives through Teheran, asking people if they will bury him when he commits suicide in a series of long shots so realistic I was surprised to find that Kiarostami used professional actors.
The Wind Will Carry Us. D: Abbas Kiarostami (1999). A filmmaker (Behzad Dorani) drives to a remote Kurdish village to film the mourning rituals leading up to the death of an old woman. While waiting for something to happen (at one point he takes ten minutes of running around looking for a cellphone signal before deciding he doesn’t want the call) he looks around the village filming the rhythm of life. A minimalist piece of deadpan comedy.
The Circle. D: Jafar Panahi (2000). In this depiction of the many ways unaccompanied women become vulnerable under Iranian law, we follow random women as they roam through the streets of a city, dodging arrest, avoiding harassment by police, being solicited for prostitution, all because they are women alone without ID. It’s a theocratic horror movie. Needless to say it was censored in Iran.
Persepolis. D: Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud (2007). An inventive and sardonic animated memoir of Satrapi’s coming of age during newly Islamic Teheran during the imposition of Sharia law. At one point Satrapi’s family sends her out of the country to a French lycee where she is terrorized by… Nuns!
This Is Not a Film. D: Jafar Panahi and Mojtaba Mirtahmasb (2011). The director of The Circle shot this video record of his house arrest (shot largely on his iPhone and smuggled to Cannes in a flash drive hidden in a birthday cake. He walks around the house, screens and talks about his earlier films describes and outlines the film the government won’t let him make, and otherwise demonstrates what artistic freedom his wits can force through totalitarianism’s wall.

The Wind Will Carry Us (1999)
Ünü İran’ın sınırlarını aşan, İran sinemasının usta yönetmenlerinden Abbas Kiorostami imzalı yapım, ismini İranlı kadın şair Füruğ Ferruhzad’a ait “Rüzgar Bizi Sürükleyecek” şiirinden alıyor ve yönetmenin diğer filmlerinde olduğu gibi durağan bir atmosferde akıyor ve kimi zaman seyircinin sabrını zorluyor. Film, Tahran’dan, İran’nın kuzeyinde bulunan ve tabiatın içine gizlenmiş Siyahdere köyüne…
