sometimes, i forget that there are people who really see L as a piece of pornographic fiction, and then i get a reality check in my monita ao3 kudos and bookmarks:

so i have to put my “akshually, L is a novel about stealing someone’s life, about irretrievable childhoods, about alienation, about the portrayal of girls and women in art, about tyranny, about solipsism, etc.” aside and get back to the absolute fucking basics: it’s a story about a stepfather who destroys the life of his stepdaughter. 

sometimes i think that this is L’s fate: to be misunderstood and reduced to raunchy stereotypes. which is ironic, considering that this is exactly what HH did with Lo.
