Северный Кавказ — одно из немногих мест в России, где сохранились сторожевые родовые башни — яркий пример самобытной горской культуры.На Северном Кавказе башни несли и жилую функцию, и оборонительную, именно поэтому они чаще всего были сторожевыми родовыми. Из-за вражеских нашествий бóльшая часть этих сооружений не сохранилась. Некоторые из башен были фамильными. По обычаю башня должна была строиться не более года, иначе род могли счесть неблагополучным; возводилась она обычно вблизи поселения. Северокавказские башни символизируют честь рода, сплоченность и мужество, являясь вершиной строительного и архитектурного мастерства горцев Северного Кавказа. The North Caucasus is one of the few places in Russia where family watchtowers have survived - a vivid example of the original mountain culture. In the North Caucasus, the towers carried both a residential function and a defensive function, which is why they were most often family watchdogs. Due to enemy invasions, most of these structures have not survived. Some of the towers were family-owned. According to custom, the tower had to be built no more than a year, otherwise the clan might be considered unfavorable; it was usually erected near the settlement.
