I performed in drag for two years before moving in with my mom. It was an amazing experience. People loved us. I had never done drag before and every Wednesday was a chance for beginners to come out and do their thing at an underground bar spot called Kremwerk.
Being poor and in drag meant ELF was my best friend and Goodwill was my treasure trove. I had to get creative with what I had. Luckily I already had an insane amount of art supplies and could make do.
I walked in full drag down the Seattle hills and walked my ass all the way back up. Twenty bucks was twenty bucks. I could get a latte! Lol.
For me I felt like it was an amazing ethereal experience. I was on stage as people watched me lipsync Dying in LA and giving people this emotional experience. I love performing and dressing up. Drag, for me, was just about becoming my inner child for a night and knowing the inner child in me was ecstatic to be surrounded by drag artists after years of watching RPDR.
The community is amazing. Everyone supported each other and there was camaraderie and sense of belonging amongst each other. You never saw anyone put another artist down.
Anyway, good luck on your paper and I hope you get an A+++ and pass your class.
I'm glad you had such a great experience with drag, that sounds awesome! Yeah while there is definitely still drama sometimes, overwhelmingly people are way more supportive than RuPaul's Drag Race would have you believe lol.

Arlo Demont - 25 - bisexual - Barista at the Daily Grind
tw: pregnancy
Arlo was born in Austin, Tx the youngest of identical twins to a working class family. A couple years later their younger brother would be born. His childhood was relatively normal, though he found that he wasn't really all that interested in the same things as his twin. This feeling would only increase as the two got older and Arlo found himself cutting and styling his hair and wearing clothes that made him feel more like himself whenever they did. It wasn't until after the family moved to the northeast when Arlo was a teenager that they finally came out to their family. It wasn't something his parents immediately accepted, but they eventually came around and started looking into ways to help them transition.
After graduation Arlo started to attend a local community college, and took up a job at a local coffee shop. Unknown to Arlo this decision would change the rest of his life. While working there they discovered their love of trying to make new flavor combinations when it came to drinks, as well as just the craft of making the drinks. He started posting on YouTube, at first just some basic videos providing beginner level knowledge of drinks. Names and what they were. The differences between types of drinks. As time went on it turned into videos on how to make different types of drinks, as well as showcasing and showing how to make latte art. This was when he really started to blow up online, and as he got more popular online the more people started coming to the coffee shop.
Arlo made the decision to finish out the two years at the community college, before fully diving into content creation. While they continued with some of the same type of content, he also began doing what he had back at the coffee shop, and started creating and sharing his own drinks.
A couple of months after their 20th birthday was when Arlo met Prasong "Bunny" Khunanikahpa at a wine and paint night the evening after filming at a coffee shop for a new series they were planning to launch on their channel where they would travel around and highlight different coffee shops. The two struck up a friendship, one that eventually blossomed into more and the two started dating.
As the relationship started to get more serious the two moved in together, and eventually the two started having talks of having kids together. As those types of conversations became more and more common and they were both at places where they could financially afford to raise a kid they decided that due to medical reasons it would make sense for Arlo to be the one to carry the pregnancy, agreeing that it would be one of Bunny's eggs and asking their friend Arthur if he would be their donor.
At the end of April the couple, Bunny's younger sister, Opal, and Arlo's best friend Raine decided to take what was supposed to be just a four day trip, only to find themselves stuck in some strange town that they couldn't leave. It was a a few weeks after in May that the two found out that the recent round of IVF treatments had worked, and Arlo was between 7 and 8 weeks pregnant.

📚💛☕️🤔 for Julian and Niko and maybe Alexei and Elijah??
Tysm anon, these were such fun questions to work on and I'm always thrilled to get a chance to think about my faves! I appreciate it so much!
📚 BOOKS — what level of education has your oc most recently completed/is currently in (GED, undergraduate, grad school, phd, etc)?
Julian finished undergrad and that's where he stopped. He was never especially fond of school (he always did well without really trying, but found it incredibly boring and the atmosphere unpleasant) and wasn't going to go to college at all, especially since his parents weren't offering any financial support. But his aunts really encouraged him to go on their dime, and study whatever he wanted so he got his BFA in music composition and minored in studio art. He's not especially interested in pursuing anything further, other than private music lessons to improve his skills but occasionally he kicks around the idea of a conservatory program for piano if he gets more serious about it.
Niko most recently completed his PhD in art history, he also has his masters in museology. He's always been SUCH an overachiever when it comes to school and academics (he double majored in undergrad, and has always been at the top of his class in school at every level), and while he's not currently in any program he's not opposed to the idea of it and would probably leap at the chance to do another degree if the opportunity came along.
I did this question for Elijah and Alexei for another ask, here it is!
💛 YELLOW HEART — how many languages does your oc speak? what language(s) are they learning, if any?
Julian's fluent in English and French, and has learned quite a bit of Greek for Niko's family - he's probably in between a B1-B2 on the CEFR scale. He's working on improving his Greek more than anything, but he's not averse to picking up little bits of Italian or German from Niko and Saoirse. He finds languages really interesting to dabble in, even if he's not looking to become fluent in them.
Niko's fluent in English and Greek (he grew up bilingual), as well as Italian which he studied through school and undergrad. He's around a C1 in French, and at about the B2 level in German, both of which he started learning later because they're both so vital in art history studies. He lowkey hates speaking German though, and tends to stick more to reading and writing in it while he's happy to speak French.
Elijah's only fluent in English, but he's learning Korean mostly on his own with the help of one of his teammates, Flora. He's still very much a beginner at it, somewhere between A2-B1 on the CEFR scale. He took Spanish in school but has forgotten pretty much everything he learned since he never used it.
Alexei speaks English fluently, and while he's not fluent in either he's relatively advanced in both Spanish and French. He's a bit better in Spanish (especially with speaking) as he took it in school and didn't start learning French until he was an adult. He's probably close to C1 in Spanish, and B2 in French. He's a bit like Julian in that he just finds languages really interesting and tends to pick them up easily, so they're a fun hobby for him.
☕️ HOT BEVERAGE — does your oc prefer coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milk, water, or some other drink? how do they like to take this drink (ex. coffee with milk, hot chocolate with whipped cream, a specific kind of tea, etc)?
Niko is all about tea lattes and while he prefers a good chai latte, he'll drink matcha lattes or earl grey lattes as well. He'll drink coffee, but generally doesn't enjoy it. Every great once in a while he likes a good, really rich cup of dark chocolate hot cocoa. He's not really a fan of water overall - he'll drink it because it's necessary, but it's boring. He prefers sparkling, and would rather it be flavored.
Julian probably loves sparkling water than anything else. He just finds it really refreshing, unlike still water which he thinks tastes kind of stale. He's not a big fan of coffee overall, it makes him feel a bit jittery, so he usually sticks to tea. He loves green and white teas, he definitely prefers them over black teas which he finds can get a bit bitter and unpleasant.
Alexei's an iced coffee boy. Even if it's cold out, that's what he wants. He has a few favorite drinks from Literati that he loves, but will often make himself a big travel cup of it at home (with fancy syrups) to take to work with him. They always keep a jug of cold brew concentrate in the fridge to use as a base and he goes through it pretty quickly (less quickly now that he knows you're supposed to dilute it).
Elijah's one true love is matcha, and he makes himself all sorts of fancy concoctions and lattes with it. But he loves coffee too, and fancy hot cocoa. Don't make him choose between his children, he literally works at a coffee shop and will try anything once.
🤔 THINKING FACE — what are some of your oc's quirks/mannerisms?
Okay, this is the hard one! This is something I hadn't really considered before so I don't have a ton for you (sorry!), but here's what I've managed to think of for them over the last few days.
Niko talks with his hands, especially when he's talking about something he's really passionate about. He's also a fidgeter when he's stressed or trying to focus himself - he alternates between bouncing his leg under the table if he's sitting, tapping his fingertips against the table or any flat surface in front of him or, if neither of those things are an option, twisting one of the many rings he wears as a fidget.
Julian is 100% a lip biter when he's worried, or stressed, or concentrating. When he's really focusing on something, he'll stick the tip of his tongue out just a tiny bit which Niko finds ridiculously cute. Julian has no idea that he does this, and Niko will never tell him because he knows if he does Julian will get embarrassed about it and stop doing it.
Alexei taps the tip of his pen or pencil against his desk when he's reading essays or parent e-mails or whatever, usually to the rhythm of whatever song's currently stuck in his head. He's also a hummer and will often be humming something under his breath quietly when he's trying to concentrate on something.
Elijah furrows his brow when he's concentrating on something and he doesn't realize he's doing it until Alexei's stroking the pad of his thumb between his eyebrows to release it. He tends to doodle absentmindedly whenever he's left with a pencil or pen and something he can draw on - could be the back of an envelope, a cocktail napkin or an actual notebook. He's also incapable of sitting in a chair properly - he's either sprawled out in it with a leg hooked over one arm, perched on the edge with his feet tucked up under him or leaning back in it.

PARFAEDIA INSTITUTE SWEETHEARTS 💕
⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚ ˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆
These sweet little angels have known each other since their younger years. They were all enrolled in the Parfaedia Institute, but in different classes of Blueberry Pie’s. While ranked in different levels of magic, Espresso and Latte were put in Level 2 then Level 3 and then putting them in the Master classes of more expert magic. Mocha Cookie graduated as a Level 3 student, learning the final process and continuing the basics of wizard magic. While this may be the case, Mocha was unsure as to why she wasn’t eligible to be put in the Master’s Level. Could this been something the Institute and her parents were trying to hide something important? Has she already obtained enough wizard magic that her power was too menacing?
Anyways, continuing with these three. Mocha became friends with Latte and Espresso through the same level of when they were all enrolled as beginners. While Espresso tends to mind his own business, captivated with books that he clutches onto from coffee magic to wizard magic, Latte and Mocha enjoy sharing their ideas with one another. They also enjoy going to the school backyard to even practice their magic. Even coffee magic! These two younger ladies enjoy going to Latte’s home and make exquisite latte art! Mocha is infatuated with Latte’s glyphs, while Latte Cookie enjoys the sweetness of Mocha’s chocolate-ty aromas of making sweet coffee.
Latte and Espresso are also interested into music as well. While they go over to Mocha’s castle to watch and listen Mocha play her gifted instrument, the tambourine. They’re amazed of how the ringing jingles turn into a magical spell of wondrous ardor.
No wonder Mocha’s powers are so spellbinding that her magic is already so advanced. And yet, she claims to believe she hasn’t learned enough magic with the powers she was already gifted before.
~
((hey everyone! author here. I was fully inspired to make this. I wanted to properly give some hcs/fic to this as I felt the need to also draw latte and espresso as what they could’ve looked like as younger students before growing up into educated professors. I definitely enjoyed writing the idea too as to how mocha’s relationship between latte and espresso would’ve been like as kids))

querencia (jang han seo)
🎤 hello and gather around fellow himbo lovers, here is a small fic about our beloved and his life after That guy kicks the bucket. also idk how i managed to turn this into a love story? anyways lmfao, hope y’all enjoy!
Everything felt so different.
Truthfully, Han Seo never imagined what his life could be like, would be like, without the proverbial ever tightening noose around his neck. One that had been unexpectedly and disappointingly placed on him as a child by the one person that was supposed to remove such things. He was now free of that person, and the fear that stemmed from veering off the path set by them, but wasn’t entirely too certain that he was free of that feeling.
His muscles couldn’t shake it. The sudden chill to the bone, the anticipation of retaliation from an act that hadn’t yet occurred. Such an act that could never occur anymore given that his brother was dead. He knew this, but his mind had never been good at accepting possibilities that were positive.
This much was evident in the case of his relationship with Vincenzo. There was no reason why the stoic yet baby faced Mafia member would want to keep him around, at least not any that he could see. So, Han Seo spent the first few weeks asking the question both silently and aloud, will you kill me? Vincenzo had the motive, it’s not exactly like his hands were clean in his previous dealings with Babel, and he most certainly had the means.
It wasn’t until Han Seo was told that because he was trying to make amends, he wouldn’t end up in the Jang family crypt well before his time that he started to feel at ease. Still, for months after that conversation, he still had the nagging feeling that some invisible fist was lurking around every bend.
Regardless of that, Han Seo decided he would not waste his liberation however short lived it might have been. He made up his mind that he was going to do all the things that he was either too scared or outright forbidden to do before. The first thing on his list was to clean up his business. Luckily for him, the Guillotine file made it easy to weed out the snakes in the grass and allow him to steer Babel in the direction that the core of the business was about.
The hardest part was going to be restoring the public’s faith in the organization. Cha Young told him as much, and advised him not to agonize over it as there will be new corruption that will grab their attention (and hers). He intended to be the Chairman that such a company deserved, and therefore continued to study no matter how nonsensical and outdated the information seemed.
The second order of business was moving out of the place that felt more like a prison than a home to one that he liked. The realtor immediately recommended a few luxury places, but he turned them down to their surprise. Maybe it was due to the fact that he had seen what the quest for material wealth had done to his family (or more realistically because he wanted to be closer to newfound hyung  and his girlfriend).
Either way, the house he settled on had its luxuries, but in a more affordable and quaint neighborhood. Han Seo even went as far as to attempt painting on his own, which went as well as expected for someone that didn’t even know the difference between a brush and a roller.
Being able to do what he wanted proved to be chaotic at times. There was no one to stop him from going on last minute trips to Jeju just for oranges and a quick dip into the ocean. Or to take away all the sweet and savory snacks that he found at these things called convenience stores.
He would stay up all night sometimes, not to binge watch all the shows he missed out on, but just to sit in silence. He didn’t know that the quiet could be so nice. That it was a space of tranquility and relaxation rather than one filled with anxiety. Of course, Han Seo more often than not regretted the choice not to sleep and ended up at the cafe a few blocks from his place.
While obviously no one had better coffee than the one at Babel, he found himself going to the cozy spot with increasing frequency because of her. The first time he saw her, she was deciding on which apple to choose from the basket beside the register. He then noticed that her canvas bag was filled with art supplies, and decided that it was a brilliant idea to draw a conclusion.
I think the one to the right would make a great subject on paper, he grinned.
She stared at him in a way that made him contemplate whether to not she was related to Vincenzo hyung before replying flatly:
I’m looking for the tartest one to go with my tea.
He was left a bumbling mess of flustered sounds and rapidly blinks, not getting the opportunity to insert some retort that undoubtably would’ve put him deeper into the realm of idiot.
The following morning he went again. No cup of coffee, not even the ridiculously overpriced espresso at Babel, would give him that jolt of electricity he felt under her gaze. And sure enough, she was there. This time her apple sat upon a folded napkin right beside her tea, and in front of them both was her sketchpad. On the page? A picture of the fruit. He couldn’t control the noise of exasperation that left him as he passed her table. On his way out he tossed over his shoulder with a grin so wide it hurt:
Nice drawing.
Their interactions continued in that same vein. Short, filled with just the right amount of bite. The balance of who had the best and last say constantly shifting, becoming somewhat of a competition.
You’re outside today, is that weed your subject?
As if there weren’t enough clowns in this neighborhood already.
You buy a lot of lattes for an artist that’s supposed to be starving.
Ironic coming from the gentrifier walking around a working class neighborhood in thousand dollar shoes.
He had look up what that g word meant after their last exchange.
There was something else he never got to do in his past. Sure, Han Seo had the occasional date or two, but commitment? That was out of the question. It wouldn’t have served his brother well if there was anyone around that would motivate him to step out from his hold. The realization that he never had a serious relationship hadn’t hit him until he started to have inconvenient thoughts during board meetings about stuff like taking a long afternoon stroll, and holding hands with her.
Han Seo could barely focus on the stack of jargon dense reading before him. He sent Vincenzo a text saying that he was coming over with soju, not waiting for a reply before making the short journey to Geumga. Cha Young’s face fell when she answered the door, muttering that she thought he was her delivery, but lit up once she saw he brought along alcohol. After poking around the rice he begged for them to share and sighing loudly for half an hour, Vincenzo ushered him out. He implored him to get a hobby so that these late night visits wouldn’t become a habit.
He was confused by that. Weren’t studying and running a company hobbies? On his walk back home he spotted a flyer that someone was offering private classes for beginners painting. The nightmare of a time he had trying to get the walls in his kitchen evenly colored popped up in his brain, instantly making him tear off one of the numbers. He didn’t exactly know how learning to paint homes was going to be a practical hobby, but hell, he would have something to show Vincenzo later.
While he was on one of his impromptu trips to the seaside, Han Seo had his assistant set up the class for him to take when he returned. As a gift for the instructor, he thought it would be nice to bring them an extra bag of oranges. If the session sucked, or if he hated it, at the very least there was going to be something to brighten the mood.
The day he got back, he even went as far as to tidy up the place on his own and put some fresh flowers around so the air was lightly scented. He practically waited at the door until the alarm sounded to let him know that his instructor arrived.
Is this a joke? She huffed.
No, I didn’t even know you were the teacher! His protest was adamant. I was on a trip and even brought back Jeju- He paused. Han Seo knew he wasn’t the brightest, but bringing up the oranges seemed like it would upset her given their previous history.
You brought back what? Her brow raised.
Mmm, good energy! Don’t you feel the vibes from the ocean? He spread his arms wide.
Han Seo waved her inside hurriedly, trying desperately to get past the awkward exchange. Of all people, he never would’ve thought it would be the neighborhood’s cute sass machine. A small noise of happiness couldn’t be stopped from escaping him as she accepted the invitation. Her eyes scanned the place without restraint, nose wrinkling when she took a look at the kitchen.
Where are your supplies? A slender finger ran across the surface of his counter.
Supplies? He thought that was included in the price for the lessons.
She sighed, placing a sketchbook, brushes, and small pots of paint onto the table. It was now very apparent to him that the advertisement did not mean what he thought it did. Thank goodness he also didn’t decide to open his mouth about that beforehand, it probably would’ve made her smack him with her bag.
Here, the materials were slid over when he sat. Paint something.
His facial expression surely mirrored what he was thinking. Han Seo had no recollection of ever trying to do this, not even during the course of his way overpriced private school education. She urged him on with a nod, only relaxing into her chair when he flipped open the book and picked up a fine brush.
There was nothing in particular he wanted to paint. Hell, he didn’t even know if he wanted to paint at all. This was simply something random that came up when he needed it.
To avoid being chastised, he dipped his brush into the light blue color and started swiping randomly across the blank page. He swapped the brush and added some dark green, then pink, and finished if off with small dots of white. At the end it looked like something a toddler would’ve considered a masterpiece. She eyed it with surprising interest.
You clearly didn’t know what you wanted to achieve with this, or why you were doing it at all.
Han Seo was about to interject with a prideful defense before she continued.
That’s good. It’s better to work with an unbiased mind. Her eyes met his. Your technique is shit though.
He laughed, like truly laughed. It was a full bellied, unashamedly loud, attack of sonic waves. She seemed to find it amusing, a hint of a smile dancing across her lips.
Alright, let’s start with how to actually hold a paintbrush.
There was no telling when their interactions had gone from less than playful banter to warm and friendly (still with a side of joking). Han Seo couldn’t put his finger on it. Did it happen during the second lesson where he mistakenly put paint on her hands, and didn’t settle for no when he said he would wash them off for her?
Or was it the time he was running late for work, but the barista already had his order prepared because she told them that he was on the way? Perhaps it was the time she had to reschedule their Saturday morning for the evening instead, and all he could think about was trying to replicate the color of her alcohol flushed cheeks onto the page before him.
Han Seo had never done the whole confession thing before, so he wasn’t sure about how it worked. An unfamiliar kind of anxiety crept up his spine as he poured glasses of wine and organized a fruit plate. Soft music played in the background accompanied by the crackle of the expensive candles he bought specifically for the occasion. Her mouth parted slightly as she took everything in once she arrived for what was supposed to be an ordinary session involving watercolors.
Wow, got a hot date later or something? Her legs seemed to automatically take her to the table.
Actually, He brought the glasses over to where she sat. It’s for you.
Oh…She gasped. A few seconds passed that felt more like minutes before she picked one up and held it high. Cheers then!
Something about it made him feel like he made a mistake. Did he misread their change in demeanor towards one another? Was she truly just being kinder to him because she considered him to only be a friend? Han Seo tried to not let the embarrassment he felt seep into the room, keeping a smile locked and loaded for when she made a witty remark about stuff like him painting in the most inappropriate white button down.
Don’t you have something to say to me? She quipped, neatly putting her things away after he finished.
Me? I- no…I... He clenched his fists. Why couldn’t he come out and say it?! This was as good as a chance as he was ever going to get. If he let this opportunity slip, he wasn’t sure if there would be one again. He had to act, he had to-
What sounded like a small growl came from her as she raked her hand through her hair. She pulled him closer by the collar of his shirt, her nose just shy of rubbing against his.
Jang Han Seo, when are you gonna stop driving me insane? She murmured, labored breaths dancing across his cupid’s bow.
If only she knew how true and reciprocated that question was to him too. From the moment he couldn’t fight against thoughts about her entering his mind, to the smile she wore when he stepped across his threshold, and the way she said his goddamned name, it was all enough to make him want to combust. To burst out of his skin, transforming into something or someone else entirely. A person that fully accepted that there were no more restraints on their lives, that they was no more fear and no more betrayal. Someone that was completely in control, and free to take what was theirs. And so he did.
It was painful, almost, the first time he kissed her. The second time even more so. By the third time, coupled with the question of her tongue prodding at his bottom lip, Han Seo had shedded the last of his previous being. He cupped her face, thumbs toying with her curled sideburns as he consumed her. Quiet whimpers made way for desperate cries, shivers were replaced by the searing heat of skin on skin.
The high he’d chased fruitlessly so many times throughout his life was finally achieved with his arms wrapped tightly around her, their bodies pressed together as she shuddered and sighed his name. He was in disbelief that what he had experienced was real, so he chased it again and again, receiving the same result each time his sweat slicked forehead bowed to meet hers.
Han Seo would learn that it could be obtained outside of that space they filled with the tangible evidence of their desire. It was also in buying melon flavored ice pops to eat in the park together on sunny days. The look on Vincenzo and Cha Young’s face when he timidly made the introduction. Her expression when she took her first bite of Hee Soo’s tteokbokki. When Mr. Nam and her had an hour long debate on which shade of red made the most realistic fake blood color. The flashing Best Chairman Ever coming from her phone when Babel secured their biggest deal yet without any dirty deals behind the scenes.
That feeling, one that outshone the other by such a long shot that it was nearly eradicated, had been there all along in the life he’d made. She just helped him see it.

10 random facts about me!
i stole this idea from aceoftrashies and i wrote most of these on my 16+ hour drive home from florida. CW FOR MENTIONS OF SELF-HARM, MENTAL ILLNESS, SUBSTANCE ABUSE, & EATING DISORDERS
im from new england and i was born there, but i did live in the south for around 7 years. im an NE baby to the core and i love being up here, as beautiful as the south can be in the summer.
im learning japanese! im around the beginner to intermediate level threshold, and while i can’t understand it very well when i listen to it, i like to listen to videos where people speak it so i can learn how it sounds.
im a music student who is majoring in viola performance and education. i also played piano when i was in 1st-2nd grade but only for a year since one of the parents at the recital took my music away and i was kinda traumatized by that so i didn’t want to go through that again. i’m kind of an intermediate level piano player right now and i’m not great at sight-reading, but if i really commit to learning a piece i can get it under my belt within a few weeks depending on how much i practice. i also enjoy singing from time to time and i have a pretty wide vocal range (spinto soprano all the way down to baritone). it’s approximately from E3-E6, but ive gone as low as an A2 and as high as an E7.
(CW START!!!) ive been dealing with a plethora of mental illnesses for most of my life, the earliest signs of anxiety and depression presenting themselves around when I was 5-6 years of age. i was formally diagnosed at 16, and through a couple more years of therapy i found out i also had ADHD (runs in my family and it’s rather severe, symptoms have been around since middle/high school so it’s strange that i didn’t decide to get it treated until this spring), dyslexia, PTSD (triggered by a car accident in 2019 and is set off by any mentions or details of vehicle trauma), body dysmorphia (set in when i was old enough to be conscious of my body and its shape which was around age 5), gender dysphoria, and i was diagnosed with an eating disorder last summer that‘s characteristic of periods of bingeing and severe intake restriction. it got better with therapy but i still struggle with it from time to time, and the symptoms have been around since elementary/middle school. i also went through a rough period in high school where i went through periods of self injurious behavior, i didn’t get the proper therapy for it though so i still have really strong urges. (CW END)
im adopted! my twin brother and i were when we were only 6 months old and we don’t have much of a memory of what it was like before or who we were around. we still have connections with the family despite it being a bit dysfunctional and kind of abusive, but my birth mother is a really kind person and someone i feel like i would be able to connect with. a bunch of physical disorders and disabilities do run though, like heart disease, diabetes, chronic bronchitis, and a shit ton of other things which sucks.
i really love driving! ive had my license for about 2 and a half years and im a very safe and observant driver (likely attributed to the fact that i got it in a state where it’s difficult to get a license anyway). i just got my first car last month which ill be sharing with my brother until we have to get a fourth car so i can take one to school my senior year of college. funny how much i love it when i have so much trauma attached to it 😅
ive traveled internationally twice, and my parents weren’t with me for either. in 2018 i flew to germany with a friend to perform at a music festival, and less than a year later in the spring i went to italy with my high school latin class.
im really into personality tests! i find the myers-briggs test to be rather interesting, but ive also studied enneagram, temperaments, and aspects of my own astrology. for example, im an ENFJ (mbti), 2w3 with a 295 tri type (enneagram), phlegmatic-sanguine (temperament), and taurus sun, capricorn rising, and taurus moon (astrology).
i like to make drinks and bake in my free time! i make a lot of coffee drinks and i can make an iced matcha latte from scratch, and i like to follow recipes for desserts and other carby snacks. i also like to make breakfast foods like eggs, omelettes, and pancakes. trust me, ya boy can make a mean cheese omelette 😉
i sometimes like to paint and draw, and with the watercolor set i use i like to use reference images. i’ve been drawing since before i could walk, and right now writing and reading are taking over as my main passion, but i had an art phase that began in my pre-teen years all the way to my mid-teen years. i still have all the skills but i don’t dabble in drawing as much as i did five or so years ago.

Best Cafes for Studying & Coworking in Cairo
Tumblr media
The Mohandessin branch of Arabeya is an oasis of calm in the bustling city of Cairo. Underneath the canopy, in the serene, leafy courtyard at Arabeya, is an ideal place to spread your books out and study, chat to friends and teachers, have a cup of shai in between classes. However, as lovely as it is, the Mohandessin courtyard isn't the only place that is an enticing learning and study space in Cairo.
Cairo, the city of cafes, has a never ending supply of spots to knuckle down with an aseer mango, qawha mazboot, or delicious snack to motivate you to get your books out. A hot cup of coffee in one hand. A new pen in the other. Quiet enough that you can hear your own thoughts, but not so quiet that you are afraid that everyone around you can hear breathe. Finding quiet nooks, green spaces, and a nice cup of coffee can make all the difference to your study habits and well-being.
Having studied at both Tahrir Square and Mohandessin branches in our time at Arabeya, here are a few of our favorite places to study and co-work in Cairo:
Diwan Bookstore
Diwan is a classic study spot in Cairo and is high on everyone's list. It's quiet, calm and has a wide selection of coffee and snacks. It's by far one of the most famous and most beloved bookstores in Cairo, and studiers can browse through books in
Arabic, English and other languages on study breaks.
Wifi? No
Area: Zamalek
Link: https://www.facebook.com/diwanbookstore/
 Cairo Opera
The Opera is not commonly listed as a good study spot, but it's one of our favorites. It's calm, filled with some of the best grass in town, and its small café has all the essentials. You can hunker down outside with your Al-Kitaab or Kallimini bi Arabi books, and then catch a show or an art exhibition at night.
Wifi? No
Area: Zamalek

Tumblr media
Sufi Café
If you are into shabby chic vibes, with lofty ceilings and mismatched antiques, Sufi Cafe is the place for you. Usually never very busy during the day, the soothing background noise of gentle chatter and the soft light through tall windows makes Sufi cafe one of my favorite places to study and the internet is good too. Tucked away in a beautiful old building just off Brazil Street in Zamalek, it offers responsibility priced juice and coffee, traditional breakfasts, and a hearty bowl of pasta among other dishes on the menu.  And if you hang around long enough, the energy transforms from sleepy cafe to cool coffee shop, with neighbouring cafes beginning to spill into the street, serving coffee, tea and shisha late into the night alongside games of  backgammon when you’re ready to switch off egyptian style.
Wifi? Yes
Area: Zamalek

Tumblr media
Holm
Just down the road from Beano’s cafe and the Dutch Cultural Institute Library (both great study spaces!) in Zamalek, Holm is a small cafe a little different from your usual Egyptian cafes. Oozing more Scandi vibes,  with two floors, and a huge bay window seat (for those lucky enough to grab it) looking out onto leafy, green trees, Holm isn’t the cheapest option in Cairo, but definitely one with delicious food and a calm atmosphere. The menu serves healthy juices, beetroot lattes, date and coffee breakfast smoothies, salads and even has some vegan cake options! Maybe a little pricey compared to other cafes in Cairo, it’s worth the extra couple of LE for healthy food and a good spot to study once in a while.
Wifi: Yes, (not the most reliable however)
Location: Zamalek

Falak
Falak is a cute hipstery cafe in Garden City, with both indoor and outdoor seating. It has both a good bowl of pasta, a good cup of coffee and a wide juice selection. In addition to being a good open-air place to study, it’s also a bookstore, jewelry shop and stationery store. We highly recommend you check it out at night!
Wifi? Yes
Areas: Garden City
Link: https://www.facebook.com/Falakbooksandartworks/
Room Art Space
Room is a basement café tucked in a corner in Garden City. With a wide selection of hot and cold drinks, breakfast and lunch foods, including healthy options,  it's a great place to spend a day studying (then spend a night karaoke-ing or playing board games!). For the non-health conscious- make sure to check out their banana rolls- also known as banana bliss *drools* - which is a great reward for a long day of studying.
Wifi? Yes
Area: Garden City
Link: https://www.facebook.com/roomartspace/
Bardo Clubhouse
A treehouse, guys, a treehouse!! Who doesn't want to study in a treehouse? Clubhouse is a cute, tiny greenspace tucked away in Maadi. It's blocks away from the metro station and worth the hike from Mohandiseen for a day of study in the grass and sun.
Wifi? No
Area: Maadi
Link: https://www.facebook.com/bardoclubhouse/
Oldish
Just around the corner from the Tahrir Square Arabeya branch and AUC bookshop, Oldish is a cafe/restaurant ideal for students. With a huge menu serving practically every drink and meal under the sun, the atmosphere is remarkably relaxed considering it being so near to one of the busiest squares in Cairo. While it has a small seating area facing the road, once you go through the entrance, continue into the back where a large courtyard offers plenty of seating and outdoor fans! Or if you’re looking for something a bit chillier, up the stairs from the courtyard is a cosy restaurant with great Aircon. Grab a seat immediately on your left by the window and the bookshelf for the ultimate study space.
Wifi: Yes
Location: Downtown
Link: https://www.facebook.com/oldisheg/
Other cafes and co-working spaces to check out in Cairo:
Here are a few honorable mentions of cafes and co-working spaces in Cairo that we haven't had a chance to check out yet!
- Dutch Flemish Institute, Zamalek (nice, cool library for studying without distractions)
-Antique Khan, Zamalek
-icecairo, Downtown/Tahrir
-TBS, Maadi
-Greco Cafe, Maadi
-The District, Maadi
-AlMaqqar, Heliopolis

Knowing Eyes
They say eyes are the windows to the soul, I first fell in love with his eyes, so I guess also quickly fell in love with his soul. Those eyes of his, so warm yet so bold, they always seemed to be wanting something, wanting something more out of everyone, more out of life, he just wanted more.
No. More isn’t the right word; he wanted something better, more acceptances, a greater willingness to change. Those eyes wanted to see people grow, watch them make decisions that would better someone else’s life, better the world, and yet, they were never demanding, never glaring or cold. Those eyes of his looked at you, looked past the physical you and looked at your soul. They pleaded with it, yearned for that soul to be a beautiful one, one that caused change, he wanted that from everyone, but I think he wanted it from me the most.
He saw into me, saw the timid little mouse of a man I was. Saw that there was something more I wanted from life. Those mesmerizing eyes looked into mine and somehow knew I was here for something important. That I held a far greater purpose then I would ever allow myself to believe. His eyes knew from the beginning, they needed no convincing, he knew I was meant to be something more. His belief in me was confirmed before I could even allow myself to dream that I could believe in myself.
So much had led us to that moment, allowed us to be there, staring soul to soul, heart to heart. Somehow time’s plan allowed us to be there, together and in that moment on that snowy night, that moment of bliss, I was finally free. Lip to lip he set my soul free and gave me the courage I thought I could never have. I pulled him in closer and smiled into it. I was finally free.
But I’m getting ahead of myself, a big event can only happen because of smaller ones, ones that a set a ball in motion without anyone knowing. Those small events called life are important, to me and to him…
 A Latte and a Laugh
We met in a coffee shop, both of us were laughing as the barista messed up name after name, saying strange variations of names that shouldn’t have been too hard, K-all for Kyle, Laura turned into Bora and m’lady was supposed to be Melody.
Marcus was the first to talk, first to start the ball rolling, he started the first conversation we’d ever have, started our connection.
“I’m lucky; they can’t really mess up my name. Well I suppose they could say it in an odd way but Marcus… pretty hard to mess up.”
I admired how easily he started up the conversation, I was a stranger, he didn’t need to talk to me, but he did. My mouth opened before my brain could spiral into self-doubt. “You are lucky. I’ve had a few uh…. Interesting… mess ups on Simon. Gotten Simone, Siman and uh… heh… seamon…”
He turned to face me, blinking in silence, my mind raced, ‘stupid,’ I thought. ‘I’m so stupid, why did I just tell a him all th-“
He burst out laughing. His nose crinkling as his laughter came out louder, a warm and genuine sound. “They messed up Simon? SIMON? Damn man, I am so sorry.” He set a light brown hand on my shoulder, bending forward, trying to get over his fit of laughter. He dried those tears you get from laughing from his eyes taking a deep breath. “I am so sorry man.”
He was about to say something more when the barista called out the next name, “Mareus? Is there a Mareus?... Grande vanilla cappuccino with skim milk?”
I couldn’t help but chuckle as Marcus let out a small huff, “guess I spoke to soon, they canin fact mess up Marcus.”
She called another name, “Simon?  Peppermint latte for Simon?” Marcus and I looked at each other, shaking our heads and smiling; they got my name right for once and oddly enough messed up Marcus’s. We stood there for a minute, not wanting to part ways. Marcus shrugged, “well enjoy Simon, I’ll see you around.” He walked off, leaving to continue his day.
I stood there, grinning like a goof, maybe this was what happiness was like, and maybe this was what confidence was like.
 Sketches
Days passed and those days turned into weeks, I didn’t see Marcus again until I went back to the coffee shop.
I sat in the back corner, soft chairs with large fluffy pillows that faced a window, I loved this back corner. It was always warm and always empty. It was like a little nook, a private place for me to relax. I sat there, watching people walk by, pulling out my sketch book; I pressed my pencil’s eraser to my lips, looking for inspiration. There was an elderly couple across the road, sitting on their usual park bench. He always held her hand in his; he looked like he did it so gently, as if she was an old china doll that needed to be treated with care. Her cheeks were always rosy and her eyes always bright and full of love, full of life. I glanced down the blank page and back up at the couple and started sketching.
“…That’s really good.”
His voice startled me. I looked up, not knowing my eyes had gone wide in fear, not realizing my hands had tightly latched onto the book and pencil. He took a step back, raising his hands in front of his chest. “Hey… hey it’s okay.”
I blinked a few times, “Marcus?”
He nodded, smiling a little, “thought you almost forgot who I was. Sorry if I startled you.” He sat down next to me, still looking at my work. “It really is nice Simon, you like drawing?”
I nodded, “sort of. I’m really no good at it but it’s always been a fun hobby.”
He snapped his fingers, causing me to jump slightly, “you should come to the art class I’m teaching at the Rec Center!”
“Wha’?”
“The art class I teach! It’s a beginner level painting class; we’re starting the new course next week. The first one seemed to be really popular but there’s still room in this one! Come on Simon, please.”
His eyes were sparkling, two emeralds, two dazzling orbs that sucked me in and would never let me go, and I felt myself nod, “okay…” Those eyes gleamed brighter, drawing me closer, slowly melting my fears while building up my confidence.
“That’s great! We meet on Thursday’s at 6:00! If you paint half as good as you sketch- well you’ll be a natural!”
As quickly as he came into my corner of the world he left, leaving me blinking in silence, ‘what had I just committed to?’
   Art and the Heart
I stared up at the large brick building, gulping slightly. The place had always intimidated me, it seemed too large, too imposing, and someone like me couldn’t make it in there. Sure it was a ‘community cente’r; sure anyone could go in but someone like me… I knew I would be eaten alive by people who were better than me. I was about to turn around, about to jump back into my car and drive away, go back into me little home and hide, but I walked right into him.
           “Hey Simon, you ready?”
           “I- I uh… well Marcus maybe I shouldn’t-“
“You’ll be fine Simon, come on!”
He took my hand and pulled me in not allowing me time to protest. I couldn’t think, I was running on auto pilot, just following where he pulled me. His hand felt like it could manage a strong grip but the flesh of his palm was so soft. I shook my head, “nuh”, ‘you can’t be falling for him Simon.’
           “You say something Simon?”
           “N-no- I uh… I-“
“Hey, you’ll be fine; no one is expected to be perfect their first time painting!”
He pulled me into a large room, gesturing me to sit at a table near a large window. “Best seat in the house. Even at night that window can provide you inspiration.”
I nod, sitting down and waiting for everyone else to file in, waiting for the class to start, hoping that I’d just be able to blend in. They soon did, Marcus started teaching, telling us to paint from the heart, to not question our instincts, to believe in ourselves and then he set us free, told us to just, paint.
I hesitated with every brush stroke, even with his words fresh in my mind I couldn’t seem to let go of my fears and just let my brush move freely across the canvas. Marcus walked around the room, stopping at every canvas, giving advice and praise, but never criticism. He came to mine, watching my motions with curious eyes.
“Having trouble getting a certain color?”
I nodded sheepishly, “yeah, I want to paint the sky, it’s well… it was an inky black but a black that looked blue with… with silver from the stars… I’m sorry that probably doesn’t make any sen-“
His hand was next to mine, gently taking the palette knife out of my hand, mixing black and blues. “Try that.”
I blinked a few times, looking at the color; it seemed perfect on the palette, so hesitantly I dip my brush, closing my eyes as I let it sweep across the canvas. I peak at the canvas, hesitantly cracking one eye open. The color was exactly what I wanted. I turned to see Marcus smiling at my expression. “That the color you wanted?”
I nodded, “yes, its perfect thank you.”
“I’m glad, now for that silver; mix a little grey with a lot of white. We have an almost clear color that leaves a shine, which should work.”
           I nodded again, “th-thanks.”
I’m smiling, the rest of the painting seems to come naturally, I’m so transfixed by watching it progress in front of me that I’m startled when Marcus addresses the class again.
“Alright guys, 8:00, we have to start cleaning up now. If you didn’t finish don’t worry. Leave you canvas where it is and you can cover your paints with the lid the palettes came with.”
           “Simon?...”
I jump as I turn around, not expecting to hear anyone other than Marcus call my name, My heart seems to jump and sink at the same time. “…Daniel?”
           “Surprised you still remember me.”
I hate it, his voice is cold, his eyes, once full of joy were now a stormy grey. They now held so much sorrow, a sorrow that as much as I wanted to, I could never understand and never take away.
“What do you mean? We dated for like- five years, I- I really can never forget you.”
“Yeah,” he rolled his eyes. “Seems like you’ve moved on though.”
He glanced towards Marcus, making his point painfully clear.
           ‘Is it that obvious?”
“Have to be pretty damn blind to not notice. Finally getting comfortable with your sexuality? Finally gonna actually show love when out in public?”
I let out a small growl that sounded more like a whimper, “Danny, you know that’s not fair I-‘
“First,” I notice his hands ball into fists, “don’t ‘Danny’ me. And second, it is fair to bring up that you never wanted to be affectionate with me when we were in public!”
I couldn’t argue, I was terrified to even hold Daniel’s hand when we were out together, and now here I was blushing when Marcus walked by. “And for that I’m sorry Daniel. I really am, I- I was scared, both for my safety and for your own.”
“Why did you leave me then? We could’ve handled the hatred together.”
“We- we were going different ways Danny. You wanted to leave this town, go make a better life in the city and I- well you know I like the familiar, I wanted things to stay stable. You were so set to leave and all I wanted to do was stay…. Why didn’t you leave?”
He didn’t answer; we were silent as people started filing out. Daniel finally shrugged, “things just- didn’t work out. Place I was gonna stay fell through, couldn’t find work and then the... my… I- well things just got fucked up. So why are you here Simon? You never wanted anyone to see your art. So why take a class where it’s likely a lotta people will see it?”
“Marcus sort of convinced me, he... he told me I was good… told me I should come and I… He pulled me in before I could chicken out. What about you? Thought you were never one for anything creative”
“My fucking housemate made me join up. Thought I needed to get out of the house and do things. Said it was bad for me to just sit at home. Connor’s such an idiot, an art class isn’t going to help me with anything.”
‘Come on Danny I bet he isn’t that bad, and I’m sure this class will help you.”
I reached out to comfort him, but he quickly slapped my hand away. “DON’T TOUCH ME! AND DON’T CALL ME DANNY! That part of us is gone Simon! Don’t start bringing what’s dead back to life!” He pushed past me, fuming and angry. I watched him leave, watched his back as he headed for the door, watched as he seemed to limp a little with every few steps. “…Daniel.”
Marcus walked over to me, “hey, no tears, it’s alright.”
I blushed, mumbling as I dried a tear, not realizing it had fallen.
Marcus sighed, “Daniel doesn’t mean to be like that. A lot has happened in the last few years.”
           “How… How do you know?”
“Connor and I are pretty close,” he laughed, “actually dated for a few months. Didn’t work but we remain close… Daniel doesn’t want to hurt you Simon. And I promise I won’t hurt you either.” He took hold of my hands smiling warmly, silently convincing me that I would be okay.
He walked out with me, heisting to leave. “You’ll be okay?”
“Yeah… Yeah I’ll be okay. I’ll see you next week Marcus.”
“I’m looking forward to it Simon.” He smiled as he got into his car and drove away.

Part 40 - New Kid on the Block
Down the Voltage Rabbit Hole is an ongoing story about our MC, who could easily be anyone in voltage fandom. She woke up in hospital bed only to discover that she’d somehow been transported Voltage universe.
This story is ongoing, so if you missed a part, or are new to the story, please use the link to the masterpost below to catch yourself up:

Part 40 - New Kid on the Block
Zyglavis left my room shortly after accepting my invitation for Wednesday, so I could change and get to bed, considering I had an early morning ahead of me.
Before I’d gone to sleep I noticed that I had a few new text messages from the king which let me know that Zyglavis and the rest of the Punishments and Wishes Gods were unable to locate me in the reflecting pool, seeing as how I was from another world.
It made sense, considering the fact that the time I’d ran away Zyglavis had assumed I’d died, and with the exception of the King of the Heavens, it was sort of nice to know that I wasn’t being monitored the way I once feared.
The king also made it clear that he’d enjoyed watching his usually straight laced minister squirm with discomfort. He suggested that I provoke Zyglavis further in order to push him into admitting what was really in his heart considering I seemed so sure that the scene which spoke to my heart told the truth in terms of what had really transpired in the king’s chambers.
“Win or lose...you really do know how to put on a show.”
The message ended with clapping hand emojis, and feeling confident that I was delivering the kind of ratings the network execs (or in this case, the king) wanted, got myself to bed knowing that Soma would be waiting for me in the morning.
Tumblr media
My alarm blared at 5:30 AM, and I groaned seeing as how I was not a morning person.
It’s fair to say that I already regretted scheduling exercise before work, but learning kendo in the otome-verse from an expert was a once in a lifetime experience and I forced myself out of bed.
Tumblr media
Seeing as how I was barely awake, I made my way to the mansion’s bathroom and quickly got my usual morning routine out of the way. After I’d brushed my teeth I still felt a bit sluggish, so I splashed my face with cool water, and made my way back to Zyglavis’ room where I’d laid out an outfit the night before.
I changed into the workout clothes, and grabbed my gym bag in addition to a large Birkin style purse that was packed with everything I’d need in order to have a fabulous first day of work, including my favorite outfit from my shopping spree. My morning had been planned to a T, but just as I was about to leave, I noticed that there was a freshly made latte waiting for me.
I tentatively took a sip, and knew immediately that this could only have been made by Zyglavis.
I found myself smiling as I quickly confirmed that I had everything I needed for the day, and with it all present and accounted for, grabbed the to-go cup and made my way to the train.
Tumblr media
Waiting outside the mansion for me was a giggly Altair, who upon spotting me bounded up to me.
“Lady Ami!”
“Good morning Altair.”
“Oh...what’s that you’re drinking?” he asked boyishly, which made it obvious that he had been the one to deliver the drink to my room.
“It’s a latte...and it’s quite good. You didn’t perhaps make it for me did you?”
He giggled once more and continued to skip alongside me as I walked to the train.
“Can you keep a secret?”
“Of course.”
“It’s from Lord Zyglavis! He wanted you to have it before you start your new job. He didn’t say this...but I think he’s rooting for you to do your best!”
I patted Altair on the head affectionately and said, “That was very kind of him. Will you thank me for him?
Altair’s eyes widened and he firmly shook his head no, exclaiming, “It’s a secret - remember!”
“Oh right…”
Altair giggled once more, and grabbed my hand.
It was sweet of the boy to walk me all the way to the train station, and the combination of caffeine and conversation began to perk me up to the point that I found myself ready for Soma’s lesson.
In the back of my head, I wondered if Zyglavis had instructed him to escort me with the hopes that he might get a clue as to who the other men were, seeing as how Altair was unusually inquisitive in terms of where I was going, if I was learning Kendo with anyone, etc. With that said, it was hard to tell, since the little boy was often a bit of a chatterbox, and I couldn’t help but affectionately ruffle his hair once we’d reached the station, thanking him for walking me to the train before saying goodbye.
Tumblr media
I’d met Shusuke Soma briefly when I’d visited the academy for the first time in the hopes of finding out the identity of the man who had found me in this world. At the time, I’d been so enamored with Namba, that it had been difficult for me to really process anyone other than him. However, getting to spend one-on-one time with Shu (as he liked to be called), proved to be an enjoyable experience.
He was clearly intelligent, soft spoken, and thoughtful, yet also had an edge to him and a hardness that lurked just below the surface. It was obvious that should you cross him, you would experience a Shu that was quite dangerous, and a far cry from his usual gentlemanly demeanor.
Seeing as how I’d never held a Kendo stick in my life and knew literally nothing about it, most of the hour was spent as a history lesson of sorts, in addition to some basic calisthenics. Towards the end of our hour together, one of the academy’s advanced students joined us in order to demonstrate what the martial art looked like when it was practiced at an advanced level.
It was impressive to say the least, and having experienced a sliver of the Bakumatsu period firsthand, I had a bit more of a grasp on the difficulty and history surrounding the martial art.
As class ended, I thanked Soma for his time and bowed deeply, seeing as how it was obvious that his time was wasted on instructing a newbie like me.
He insisted that it was no trouble at all, and that teaching beginners only helped to remind him of all the reasons why he loved Kendo as much as he did. On that note, he escorted me to the women’s locker room where he informed me that he’d see me tomorrow at 6 AM once more.
Tumblr media
I took a quick shower, then dressed myself in Zyglavis’ heels and the fabulous first day of work dress that was both office appropriate and designer in brand.
I left my hair completely wet, and tied it back in a bun as I headed towards the neighborhood near Addison & Rhodes.
Knowing that I was pretty much incompetent at doing my hair and makeup, I spent the hour from 7:30 AM (post-Kendo) to 8:45 AM getting my hair and makeup professionally done at a salon that was around the corner from Addison & Rhodes. It was something that I would never do back home, but seeing as how I had time and money to burn, it seemed like the obvious solution considering the fact that I had less than a week to charm the pants (quite literally) off my new, hot boss to see if he was marriage material.
To the point that I had money to burn, while at the Salon I had a courier take my cumbersome gym bag off my hands, seeing as how I had no desire to schlep it around to my welcome party that Shun had promise to throw me on my first day.
Feeling considerably lighter without the bag, and with my wet hair now perfectly styled in a similar fashion to the women I’d encountered during my tour at Addison & Rhodes, I tipped the staff handsomely and let them know I’d be back every day this week at 7:30 for the same services. Their eyes lit up and they bowed low, letting me know that they would look forward to seeing me tomorrow.
With the office only five minutes from the salon, I decided to pick up another latte, and feeling a combination of first day of work and caffeine jitters, headed to the Addison & Rhodes lobby where Shun had instructed me to meet him first thing.
Tumblr media
“Ami,” he said upon seeing me, approaching with his usual confident swagger, “Welcome to our team.”
“Thank you for having me sir.”
“You have no idea how excited I am that you’ll be with us from now on. You’ll be working directly with Toshi, as well as the creative team, which I oversee.”
I followed him to the security station, where he stayed with me until my official Addison & Rhodes ID card was created.
I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised with the picture on my ID, and was happy that I’d stopped by the salon before work seeing as how I looked quite fetching my new ID photo. While we waited for it to be laminated, Shun commented on how nice I looked, noting that while I’ve always been attractive it was clear that my professional appearance was even more scintillating.
Naturally, he’d said it half-joking, half-serious in a hushed whisper with his usual sexy smirk.
Seeing as how I only had a week and there was no time like the present, I decided to meet his boldness with my own, suggestively noting that it had not yet been five minutes and here he was, already being a naughty boss. I hammered the point home by purring his name (Mr. Tachibana), and upon doing so I completely caught him off guard.
Even though he was one to dish it out, it was obvious that he was unfamiliar with the kind of woman who had enough personality to keep him on his toes.
Tumblr media
We spent the rest of the morning teasing each other.
Upon the guard handing me my ID, he put his hand on my lower back and guided me towards the turnstiles.
I sent his heart a flutter by backing up in the crowded elevator, allowing my bum to “accidentally” graze his crotch, before shooting him a suggestive look and issuing a false apology.
He met my false apology by whispering seductively in my ear about the fact that the door to his private office (in which he stressed the word private) was always open...just for me. Not wanting to back down I thanked him for being so kind on my first day, and as we exited the elevator, quietly insinuated that I was looking forward to witnessing how he inspired his team to get their creative juices flowing (so to speak).
He actually flushed a little upon hearing that line, and I’d worried that I’d crossed the line with him, but he recovered quickly and with a devious grin reminded me that he’d be taking me out for drinks to celebrate my first day in addition to the fact that he was very much looking forward to it.
Tumblr media
My desk was somewhere in the midst of the creative wing, where I found myself at an empty seat next to the copywriter I’d met during my tour of the office.
I’d already heard through the grapevine that the seat had been vacant due to the fact that Toma was considered to be a bit of a tyrant, but knowing that he was most likely a playable character, I was certain that he probably had a soft side, or something incredibly charming and redeemable under his callous exterior.
I was hoping that I wouldn’t be forced to interact with him much, but no sooner than I’d booted up my computer and logged in, did Toma approach me.
Tumblr media
“It’s you.”
“Yep.”
“So you took the job? I’m surprised.”
“Why are you surprised?”
Tumblr media
Toma shrugged, “Just didn’t think you would.”
“Cool story bro,” I said, hoping it might shut down further conversation, but instead saw him smirk, somewhat amused by my response.
“Easy there Noob. I’m your superior.”
“You may call me Miss Mizuno, not noob, and I believe I actually outrank you as Addison & Rhodes’ brand new Digital Marketing Director.”
Tumblr media
“You’re a Director? That’s impossible...how old are you?”
“Didn’t anyone ever tell you that it’s rude to ask a woman’s age?”
“Don’t care much if people think I’m rude - how old are you?”
I sighed and said, "I’m 30.”
“Me too. What month were you born?”
“What does that matter?”
“I bet I’m older.”
“Even if you are you act like a child so…”
Our banter back and forth had happened so naturally that I didn’t realize the entire floor was watching us go at it in stunned silence.
When I realized that I had somehow become the center of attention (on my first day no less), I smiled at my coworkers and with a small bow introduced myself and let them know that I was looking forward to working with them. Once I sat, the room became lively once more as I listened to the whispers of the people around me as they marveled at the fact I hadn’t backed down from Toma in the slightest.
Toma himself seemed surprisingly amused by it all, and though he didn’t say anything about it, sat next to me without complaint.
Just before lunch he addressed me as, “Miss Mizuno” per my request and I felt triumphant in the fact that I had somehow tamed the tyrant beside me in only a few hours.
Tumblr media
Going into my first day at Addison & Rhodes, I already knew the account I’d be working on.
That day in Shun’s office when I’d sat in on the Mira Black coffee account, I’d learned a fair amount about the brand and knew that they were struggling to cement themselves in the millennial market. It was a problem, seeing as how they needed to capitalize on establishing their brand with younger people in the hopes that they would build a lasting brand relationship with these consumers.
At the current moment in time, Mira Black was most popular among 40 year old male office workers, and had a reputation for being a bit bitter, and an acquired taste of sorts.
Taking all this information into consideration, Shun and Toshiaki were hoping that I’d be able to make good on my promise to leverage Tweeter in order to engage a millennial market, and seeing as how this world had gifted me with various cheat codes (despite actually being competent at this job), I had the perfect plan that would ensure I stood out during my first week at Addison & Rhodes.
I used the morning to put together a presentation deck outlining my plan for the week, in the hopes that we might be able to get our Mira Black client to sign off no later than Wednesday.
Seeing as how I was operating under the assumption that I only had a week in this world, I thought it important to distinguish myself here as quickly as I could for fear I might not have the chance later on.
To that point, Shun was surprised when I refused his invitation to lunch in exchange for a private meeting in his office with Toshiaki at 4 PM. With that said, I knew that trading a lunch date in exchange for establishing myself on my first day would impress him far more than some additional flirtatious banter.
I worked like a mad woman - merging Toshiaki’s metrics with my own creative spin, as Toma glanced over at me from time to time, unsure as to what I was working so diligently on, seeing as how it was only my first day.
I finished the deck exactly 15 minutes before the meeting which was something I always did back home (my team joked that I enjoyed the photo finish), and feeling triumphant closed, my assigned laptop in order to make my first presentation as Addison & Rhodes’ Digital Marketing Director.
Tumblr media
I got to Shun’s office five minutes early and knocked quietly on his closed office door for fear I was interrupting a client meeting. No sooner had I rapped twice did it fly open, and Shun motioned for me to join him in his office, leaving the door slightly ajar for Toshiaki.
Like any woman who was attempting to seduce her boss, I connected my laptop to the TV in his office as suggestively as possible.
I kept “accidentally” dropping the dongle, bending down to plug and unplug cords, until innocently taking a seat, pretending I was completely unaware of the fact that I’d been showcasing my rear end to him. To that point, when I finally did sit, Shun was looking quite antsy, and I attempted to fan the flames more by crossing and uncrossing my legs which was something I had read drove men crazy in Cosmopolitan magazine as a teenager.
Clearly having met his match, Shun barely was able to get anything out and I felt quite triumphant, seeing as how I’d managed to completely fluster him. Luckily for him, Toshiaki joined us before his mind could fall further into the gutter and I started my presentation.
Tumblr media
“Our problem is simple,” I said, “Mira Black has a taste that appeals to a different target bracket than millennials, who tend to opt for limited edition flavors and in general, sweeter coffee drinks. All we need to do is get them to embrace Mira Black, and in order to do that we need to make bitter, cool again.”
“That’s quite the problem...” Shun said skeptically.
“Millennials are not like their parents. They’re not watching ads on television or even YouToob. They’re engaging with brands on Tweeter, and trends are telling them what’s cool since they’re not decided by a stuffy agency like us, but their peers…”
I clicked the arrow on my keyboard to go to the next slide, and watched as Shun’s skepticism spread to Toshiaki.
“Friday night Revance held a pop up concert where their new song ‘Cry Me a River’ prompted them to become one of the top trending hashtags in all of Japan. That song...is bitter. Like Mira Black.”
On my next slide I showcased the heart of my idea - a “Revance Tweeter Takeover” in which the band would take over Mira Black’s Tweeter page, answer questions about breakups, all the while promoting bitterness being cool. In addition to Tweeter, they’d also use FaceTime live to stream a sneak peek of their new LP, whose theme of “heartbreak” went hand in hand with that of “bitterness”.
“Interesting,” Toshiaki said doubtfully, “but Revance would never agree to something like this. They’re notorious for not working with advertisers like us.”
To that I simply smiled, and took out a signed contract from my bag as I slid it across the table towards Shun and Toshiaki.
“They already have. NDA signed with the understanding that they would make themselves available upon request.”
The two men looked at each other in shock, then at me, then at the paper, then at each other, and then at me again.
“These guys owe me a favor,” I said casually.
“You...know Revance?” Shun asked.
I nodded, “All we need to do now is get the client to sign off if you guys like it. I was hoping to shoot for Wednesday or Thursday so…”
Tumblr media
Shun and Toshiaki looked at each other in a way that made it clear that they were communicating with each other without having to say anything out loud. I held my breath as I waited for a real response and upon seeing Toshiaki give Shun a curt nod, the creative director finally spoke.
“Ami...I think it’s safe to say that this is the most impressive plan anyone has ever put together at Addison & Rhodes, and you’ve done it on your first day. I...truly, I’m floored. We’ll get on the horn to the client immediately. Toshiaki will present this and hopefully we’ll be green lit before mid week so you can make it happen.”
“Great!” I said cooly, “This will be fun.”
Tumblr media
I decided long ago that real men are not threatened by a woman’s competence. They see passion and skill as an attractive quality, and I was pleased in the moments leading up to the day’s conclusion to see that Shun was in fact, a real man.
My presentation did more to seduce him than any of my suggestive flirting ever did, and by the time 6 PM rolled around it was clear that he was eager to take me out to celebrate as he’d promised.
The entire walk to Storm Bar he rattled on and on about how impressed with me he was, and that even Toshiaki had expressed unabashed praise when it came to my plan. He marvelled at the fact that I’d even been able to shut Toma up, and hadn’t cowered under his acrid gaze as many others had.
He gushed on and on about how I amazing I was, and to be honest, I totally agreed with him.
Tumblr media
I’d worked my ass off to make sure everything had gone according to plan, and as Shun brought our drinks over to a private table I realized yet again that I’d managed to make it happen. I was alone, having drinks with my boss that I hoped to seduce at some point this week.
It was obvious that it would happen at this rate, the only question was...would it happen tonight?
To be continued…in Part 41!
