It was a church feast day before 2012, just not a national holiday one a day off(which btw I absolutely love to have, don't care what the intentions behind it were).
And about the mythical Halloween parties in the 2000: my school organized some of those. I was probably first or second grade when the first one happened and I remeber our religion teacher, who was also the priest grandma took me to confess to, was dressed up as Ion Creanga and was part of the costume competitin jury😆. And my class organized one of these parties when we were in 8th grade.
P.S. Your religion teacher is probably confusing sf. Parascheva with Filofteia. Nice to know that religion classes are a complete waste of time.
maybe i just didn't pay that much attention to it before, but the amount of super-ultra-extra christian god-honoring and most of all, god-fearing romanians truly, genuinely believe that Halloween is a holiday for worshipping the devil is fucking astounding. was this always this way or is this just a new fad brought on by the extreme right or whoever else associated with it?? And they teach this shit to kids as well so when you want to make a lesson abt it cause it's such a huge thing in the english speaking parts of the world they get all offended and try to lecture me about how it's a satanic holiday or whatever
#before the pandemic my old diriga messeged me to ask about some decorations we used at our party#so I guess they were still doing it#don't know if they jumped on the satanic badwagoon since#would be a shame#stayin off facebook means that I was blissfully unaware that Halloween is satanic discourse even existed pe plaiuri mioritice#but my highschool religion teacher did tell us that the peace sign and I love you hand sign were satanic#so I am not one bit surprised
