#Repost @twenty7twenty It's Sunday, and the footy is on the TV (shock I know) but that Collingwood v Carlton game was a classic. Feeling for all those Blues supporters right now... Anyway, I was super stoked to get some Stout in this month's box from @craftbeercoop so I made sure to get them cold so I could crack them this weekend. Such a solid #milkstout from @cronullabeerco , nothing fancy just strong Stout flavours, pours a good head and whilst at the top end of the carbonation scale, it still works well. #Repost @oneboyandhisbeers Can’t explain how great it is to be back interstate and checking out some new breweries ✈️ A little weekend away to Adelaide for a mate’s birthday afforded me a little time to go and check out a local brew spot that was charming, welcoming and superb from when I walked in the door 😌 @sixtwelvebrewing is in St Agnes, about a 30 minute drive from Adelaide’s CBD, and is headed up by Brad and Alle, who opened their doors in 2020. With Brad’s mum providing great conversation behind the bar, an awesome live acoustic performance and kids running around, Six Twelve really had a great family atmosphere about it. What about what’s on the taps?⁉️ Plenty of options were available which meant paddles were the way to go, and I was really stoked with how good these beers were. My standout options were: - Big Fella Red Rye IPA (6.5%) - Lanky Stout (5.0%) - Kolossal Festbier (6.4%) - Goliath NEIPA (6.6%) - Lurch WCIPA (7.4%) - Beanstalk Pale Ale (4.8%) If I had to pick a favourite, it may have been the incredibly roasty and toasty Lanky Stout, with the Big Fella also tasting phenomenal with its equal lashings of caramel, pepperiness and grapefruit that went down a treat 😍 I’d highly recommend checking out SixTwelve Brewing for the service, atmosphere and really superb brews. From approachable pales and lagers, to some heavy hitting IPAs and dark brews; there’s something for every palate. Thanks to SixTwelve for the awesome afternoon! #Repost @oneboyandhisbeers 3 juicy bangers at the ready from @workingtitlebrew.co, including a new style for the crew from Queensland 👀 First up, Free Fall is a 5.0% DDH Hazy Pale Ale that disappears with crushability. Plenty of pineapple and passionfruit bursting out of the glass, with a nice dryness on the finish that ensures you come back for another gulp or six until the beer quickly disappears 😮‍💨 Punch Drunk Love is a 7.0% Juicy IPA that kinda sits in between the West Coast and East Coast, in that ‘Modern IPA’ territory. It’s a style I’m loving and a style that Working Title have nailed, with a heap of soft stonefruit, guava, some citrus and a nice crispness on the finish that helps contrast with those more plump fruit flavours. It’s good, damn good 🧃 Last but not least, Risky Business is a 7.0% Oat Cream IPA (pictured) - the brewery’s first! It was a great time chatting to Mike and Luke about this beer while having a good brew or 10 earlier in the year, and I reckon they’ve absolutely nailed it. Mike’s really been able to craft an oat cream IPA that doesn’t overpower you with sweetness, instead having the lactose accentuate the already smooth and creamy notes of peach, grapefruit and mango, with a lil bitterness there to reign things in. This is an Oat Cream done with restraint and I love it 😍 Three cracking beers from a couple of cracking blokes - thanks so much to Luke and Mike for sending me these across! If a cracking dessert beer is your thing, keep reading 👀 Compost Cookie is an Imperial Stout clocking in at 8% ABV from @brightbrewery. In this beer, we have Chocolate, Butterscotch, Marshmallows, Pretzels, Oats, Potato Chips, Coconut, Coffee, Walnuts, Vanilla, Cinnamon, Sultanas, and 100s & 1000s. Wow! Based on Head Brewer Reid Stratton’s ‘garbage cookies’ from childhood, this beer really has it all. How did all those adjuncts taste though? 🧐 As is the way with a beer like this, it’s hard to get every little individual element in the tastebuds but there’s certainly some standouts. Plenty of chocolate and butterscotch for sure, with smooth vanilla transitioning into a slightly spicy cinnamon and dried fruit finish. There’s a little bit of walnut and coffee, and it’s certainly not a crazy thick or overly sweet beer. Delicious and even a little drinkable!🤩 I highly enjoyed this drop, and was really impressed with its pared back sweetness, which made it pretty perfect for my tastebuds! A big thanks to the Bright crew for sending me this tasty drop. #Repost @oneboyandhisbeers A momentous beer for a momentous day - @brightbrewery are absolutely working to #breakthebias 💪🏻 Fred’s Blackberry Pale Ale is named after Bright’s pioneering co-founder Fiona ‘Fred’ Reddaway, and is a massive project headed up by @madelinelouise3. Bright’s trainee brewer took the reigns on this project, enlisting the help of every single female staff member at Bright Brewery to learn, brew and package this special drop. Factor in one of my favourite looking cans to date from @_lynnbrember, and you’ve got an all-star squad to brew this special International Women’s Day beer for 2022 🍓🫐 After speaking to Madi during my recent visit to Bright, her passion for this project was evident within seconds. From working on the recipe, to working with the team on tasting the beer and getting involved in the brewing process - Madi did a killer job with it all. I was super excited to try this special drop, and special is the accurate term, as I can easily say this is one of my favourites of the year so far. Jammy blackberry notes offer sweetness and slight bite alongside some citrus bitterness, with this 4.5% beer disappearing with ultimate crushability 🤤 A massive congrats to all involved on a special project for a special day. #Repost @oneboyandhisbeers Yuzu in a Mountain Culture NEIPA? Yes please 😍 Bento Boombox is a Yuzu NEIPA from @mountainculturebeerco in collaboration with @princebottleo that comes in at 6.7% ABV. With a lil rice in the mix and plenty of yuzu, I was really pumped to see what DJ could do with my favourite fruity adjunct. I was lucky enough to have this one sent over by Tommy (@allaboutthebrews), which I really appreciated, so thanks mate! 👏🏻 Just a massive citrus explosion on the nose, and yuzu is the star. A slight amount of that rice factor but mostly, it’s all citrus goodness on the nose, and on the tastebuds too. It’s got lovely pithy qualities, the zestiness of some orange and grapefruit, and it’s juicy too, letting that unique yuzu bite and sweetness really shine. The rice added to the malt bill adds a bit of light sweetness to things, balancing out a citrus-bitterness on the back. What a beer! 🥳 This was an absolute stunner and one of my favourite beers Mountain Culture have put out! When in Canberra you need to visit @capitalbrewing Spent the morning mountain biking, as you do here in Canberra, and the fluids were replenished easily with some Trail Pale Ale, and my fav Hang Loose Juice. The food is great as well, family happily fed with wings, burgers and hot dogs from the @brodburger Cracked a Tiki Time Hazy Pale Ale for the ride home, coconut goodness for daze, or should I say haze.
