thirteen years of the most wonderful movie of all time, and ten years of me being absolutely in love with the characters and the world.
thank you, hiccup and toothless. thank you, berk.
thank you, cressida cowell, for writing a beloved book series that changed my entire life. 💚
#hiksti hrópar#fun fact i only realized this because i found handwritten httyd fics dated to 2013 in an old notebook#been writing fic for ten years and still never published any of it lmfao#anyways i have more feelings about this series than could ever be encapsulated in a single tumblr post#but mostly i just feel love. so much love.

What do you think about grrm's latest twow update? (I know it's been like a week but I haven't seen a lot of people talk about it on Tumblr and I'm dying I don't understand why people aren't discussing it more...)
Hi! I can talk about what I think, but I’m not sure that what I’m gonna say is the discussion you wanted. I’m so sorry. I apologize in advance.
In the latest update GRRM said that maybe twow would be out in 2018. He’s “still months away” from publication.
I’ve heard GRRM say before that he’s months away from publication, in this blog post. He thought he would be done by the end of 2015. He thought he had four months left of work back in August 2015.
Maybe the book will be out in 2018. Maybe it won’t be. “A boy can dream…” GRRM definitely hopes the book will be out in 2018, but like he says, he has good days and bad days, so really, we don’t have any publication year yet, other than “not 2017″. TWOW could be delayed until 2019. It could be 2020. It could be 2021. It could be later. We dunno. He wants it done sooner, sure, but we dunno.
Like, I know major news sites hyped this for clickbait, like, “MAYBE TWOW WILL BE OUT IN 2018!!!!! ZOMG!!!1!” but I don’t see what there is to hype? The book’s not done; everyone knows it’s not done, that’s not news. The book’s not going to be done anytime soon; that’s not news. GRRM really hopes he can finish the book soon; that’s not news. What is there to get excited about before GRRM actually makes the announcement that he’s completed twow?
So I understand why people aren’t talking about it; what is there to say?
The only thing were going to get anytime soon is that show that I have a very complicated relationship with. Like I was saying in this post, “it’s like a totally different fandom has suddenly appeared in all the tags I track, and everyone is screaming (either good screaming or bad screaming) about this totally different fandom that has almost no relevance to me”. I feel … idk … I feel alienated when it comes to that show. And twow isn’t coming until 2018, or 2019, or 2020, or who knows. And after twow, it’s going to be another five? ten? years until ADOS? Maybe 2030? (And lmfao, D&E at Summerhall? LMFAO!! Sure_Jan.jpeg)
I want to be very clear - I feel very sympathetic to GRRM, and I wish him all the best. He loves his work very deeply, and imo no one is more upset than he is that the book’s still not done. I don’t know what is giving GRRM so much trouble, but I hope it’s something he finds a way to overcome, for his sake if no one else’s. I hope he takes as much time as he needs to create something he is happy with. He doesn’t owe me shit. I feel such gratitude for everything GRRM has published.
I wish GRRM every happiness; I hope he’s enjoying himself, I hope he gets to watch lots of football and that his team wins, I hope that he gets to enjoy WorldCon, I hope he’s living his life to the fullest, whether that’s writing or not writing or whatever. GRRM has made me so happy for so many years, and he’s given me something I truly love. I’m not much for House Targaryen but I’m gonna buy The Book of Swords later this year and I’m gonna buy Fire and Blood next year, and I’m sure they will make me happy. Thank you for all that, GRRM.
But do you have the energy for all this until 2030, and beyond? Because truly, I don’t know if I have the energy for that. I really don’t know. The show and the lack of a firm publication date have made me despair, and like, sure, I’m waiting for twow like everyone else, but I need to be pragmatic about this.
I have my theories on the broad strokes of GRRM’s #endgame with respect to my favs, and what it all means for the themes of ASOIAF that I love so much, and I’m working out how that’s enough for me if I never read another ASOIAF book, or if I never read ADOS, or whatever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I really hope that GRRM gets TWOW published in 2018, for his sake at the very least, and I hope that ADOS follows not long after, but I can’t count on these books being published anytime in the foreseeable future and I’m trying to work out how to come to terms with that.
I have an Exit Strategy on hand, if need be.
I know other people are in a similar position, other people have come to me asking me fic that finishes the books, or other series to read, or whatever, and I wish this wasn’t where I’m at right now.
I’m really sorry, I really don’t think my thoughts were the hype you were looking for. Sorry.

for the fic writer meme, multiples of 3!
:^)c here we go
3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?
pregnancy nty. there are other things that gross me out (some very significantly) but uhh pregnancy and/or genital trauma i cannot do.
6. Share one of your weaknesses.
im bad at finishing things and having the drive to do longer shit... there are 20+ things in my wip folder that i havent finished, some of which will likely never be finished, and i have a list of another 20 or so things that i want to start lmfao//
9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?
in relation to #6, anything longer than one chapter is difficult for me to write because its hard to keep up the motivation to Keep Going. its getting a little easier as i get used to writing longer and longer 1 chapter works but still
12. Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?
not sure if “episode” is the right term since i mostly write vg-based stuff... when i used to write for dw it was logopolis, castrovalva, and planet of fire, tho. now its mostly the series as a whole.
15. If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?
most of my fics would be just straight up pornos if they did get filmed lmfao but as for something with a more serious plot (and also porne) an older one but still one i like a lot, brand new day, brave new world
18. Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?
i use an online list to keep track of my general ideas but mostly no, probably to my detriment :^(
21. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
it depends on how enthusiastic i am/how long it takes me to write it. fics i spend a long time just getting completed i tend to edit while im writing because i either have to reread them to remember what happened or i reread them to put off writing more... if theyre really short and i write them quick they usually only get 1-2 revisions.
24. Have you ever deleted one of your published fics?
no... even from my 6 year old ff.net acct, even if i think theyre garbage i prefer to keep them up because i know there are definitely fics out there from 4-7 years ago whose authors think are garbage but that mean a lot to me. worst case scenario i’d probably orphan my old stuff instead of deleting it.
27. How do you feel about collaborations?
ID LOVE TO DO ONE BUT IM SHY ABOUT ASKING BASICALLY ANYONE
30. Do you accept prompts?
i love getting them but its a complete crapshoot whether i’ll actually fill them or not :| a lot of prompts ive received are sitting as wips or in my “to do” list haahahaa
33. How do you feel about crack?
it depends on the kind, tbh. back in Ye Olde Fandom Days some of my fave fics were absolutely absurd, but how good they are/how much i enjoy them depends entirely on the fandom and what the type of humor is. as for my own writing, the only dr who fic of mine i still care to look at is absolute crack nonsense
36. Which is your favorite site to post fic?
absolutely ao3 without any real competition. the only other sites ive ever posted fics to are livejournal and ff.net and both of them lack the accessibility, organization, and hyper-specific tagging of ao3
39. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?
not.... really? most people have been extremely polite even if they dont like the actual content of the fic. the last review i got that could qualify as “rude” also made approximately zero sense and i still have it screencapped to giggle at occasionally
