i actually kind of like how bridgerton s3 has gotten almost meta about the ‘bridgerton glow-up’ — both colin and penelope intentionally change the way they look, rather than any kind of unspoken shift, but it doesn’t actually change how they feel. penelope struggles just as she did before with talking to people and being charming, new look or not; colin puts on this act of a ‘rake’ and yet several people comment that it’s an act (lady whistledown, his mother, colin himself in his confession speech to penelope). so despite that ‘glow up’, the characters are emphasized to still be the same people they have always been—and that isolates them from the ton. i’m hoping pt2 becomes about being true to yourself, and the romance between colin & pen is about the two of them falling in love with a more honest version of the other person. either way, i think it’s a neat way of handling the ‘glow up.’
