there's actually been at least three other "continuations" of gltas, albeit they're all... well, not full revivals or anything. mostly cameos. Aya was in Justice League Action (more or less), Razer was in an episode of Young Justice and I think he's been canonized into the current GL comic run? I don't know much about it but I hear the events of the series don't exactly mesh with it... and Aya was just in the trailer for the third Crisis of Infinite Earths movie and Razer's VA is listed in the credits... so that's something?

so, no season 2. but you can always just rewatch the series for over a decade like the rest of us <55

IT WAS SOOO GOOD A,,,,

they made the themes so interesting and the writing was so good. i got super attached to the original characters and even more attached to the characters i already knew, like hal

there were some things i didn't like, sure (the voice acting at some points, the animation -- but i got used to them, so it's all good) but overall ??? super good series, definitely recommend it

i love the way they were building up to things that would happen later on from SOO early in the series. i love the little details, like aya's first memory of someone speaking to her, directly, being hal calling her beautiful or razer's mouth curling up and him immediatly scowling again. i loved the scene of hal putting carol's hand on his chest, allowing her to kill him. i absolutely loved iolande, her design was so fucking cool it's my fave thing EVERRR

it's also just like,,, the type of series i like. found family trope. people being silly. soul crushing angst. hope and rage coexisting. someone falling into the pits of despair only for their love for their family saving them. self sacrifice. tragic love story. etc etc etc

i just... love it. sm. sometimes when things get too serious, too solemn, they get boring --- like, for example, ahsoka's character in her series. sometimes i just need the filler episodes that allow me to see what the characters's dynamics are (that's also why i love sw rebels sm lol)

Well, that’s my Legion of Super-Heroes animated series rewatch completed (some more gifs to follow, but the main ones are done and can be found here).

It’s a good show. It’s not as cohesive or emotionally intricate as GLTAS and you can clearly tell that it was written for a younger audience and somewhat limited in what kinds of stories it could tell, but it’s still enjoyable. Season one is pretty even quality-wise while season two contains both the series best and worst episodes.

Message in a Bottle was probably my favourite episode. Its story is paced well and the buildup towards Querl opening up to Brainiac feels organic. Chained Lightning was also great and had the best emotional buildup and pay off in the entire series. It was also nicely foreshadowed all the way back in season one, which had a surprising amount of comic book/future plot easter eggs in it.

Worst episodes would be The Karate Kid and Trials. The Karate Kid is a bad version of Val’s regular origin where he’s only useful because everyone else is dangerously incompetent and unskilled, not because he’s actually all that good. Trials is a very obvious filler episode about a character I don’t care about and find boring. It adds nothing to the series as a whole.

Querl’s corruption arc was overall not quite as good as I remembered it. It’s for one a bit weird in that it starts in Message in a Bottle and then isn’t mentioned at all for the next three episodes until it’s picked up in the final again. The show isn’t great at subtle plots or foreshadowing, except in the case of the Ranzz kids, but he’s in at least two of those intermediate episodes and it would have been nice to see some reference to it in them or a slow buildup towards his corruption.

There’s also the use of “human” and “humanity” in regards to Querl. I get that this is a kids’ show and that I’m overthinking it, but it’s weird to use those types of words when you’re talking about an alien. The last few episodes also very suddenly make it seem like he's at least somewhat sad about being a robot and wants to become human, but that’s not even hinted at before Message in a Bottle. He generally seems to be quite happy about himself and never seems to suffer or miss out on anything because of his artificial nature, so it’s unclear why he’d want to become something else.

At the end of the day he’s also still not human once all his robot parts fall off. Which in itself was a very weird moment.

but overall, as mentioned, still an OK show. I had fun watching it and even the low points weren’t too bad.

Oh my god, so I was headcanoning possible consequences of the "little boxes" thing, right, and generally I've been thinking along the lines of Brainy basically having a breakdown, bUT WHAT IF Brainy boxing away his emotions worked /too well/, and he ended up choosing to box ALL his emotions away in order to function at Peak Capacity (idk how well you remember GLTAS, but think of Aya after she shut off her emotions). IT WOULD BE SO TERRIFYING TBH but I love the angsty potential of the concept.

listen, I don’t want any of the three children of supervillains (or two that we currently have) to become evil, but if the first Brainiac does end up being a real threat that Kara and everyone has to face in the 21st century as well? (not saying that’s going to happen, just that it could. or Brainy could end up facing any of his other relatives. Or really any other threat, it would probably mean something more significant if it was his family) And that was how Brainy chose to deal with it? Opening himself up to be corrupted like Aya, or like Brainy in the LOSH cartoon series?

aw, no, and just thinking of Kara’s reaction… her doing her best to save him, and try to persuade him to do otherwise, and he insists he has to… Alex and Lena as well, especially Lena as she would never intend for him to take her advice in that way...

why would you do this to me, that is so sad

I feel like people are saying you either loved the episode or were bored, but I haven’t watched GLTAS and I still enjoyed the stuff they showed!

It was a little odd to have at this specific point in the season’s plot?? but I still liked what I saw. If anything it’s more worldbuilding/info about the Lantern canon in Earth 16 I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (and this season has been Big on worldbuilding for various stuff)

And yeah they threw a lot of Kryptonian/LOSH/etc lore at us, and I don’t have the background knowledge to be !!!! at, but they explained a lot of stuff that we didn’t know what was going on for most of the season. I actually really love when we get answers/the pieces click together like that~ it took me a rewatch or two to wrap my brain around it all, but I did enjoy that exposition 👍

I super agree that Raquel should have been in more of the episode though :( I really hope she’s more featured in the rest of her arc 🙏

Top 5 of our AUs

1. mmmmm okay this was a tough choice. Gonna say the Gem Legion AU, which has 2 entire iterations, shoutout to @fire-night-sky who is amazing, I love her version as well. and still think Sapphire!Superman and Ruby!Kell works slightly better than our version. but whatever. anyway! I love this one because it has everything! You got your Brainysupes, you got your Supercorp, you got your Kell/Mekt, you got your other canon ships that were pretty natural pairings in the show. You got Winn and Brainy as friends, you got Kara and Alex as badass sisters, you got townspeople doing their thing, you got a scary Diamond Authority (especially Yellow Diamond, who I do not regret assigning to Brainiac for obvious reasons) you got Yellow Agate being a bitch, you got an actual fic and so much amazing fanart that you and Fire did, you got sads, you got happiness, you got Mon-Ew being an irredeemable dick joke, you got terrible puns… like, seriously. And there’s so much more we haven’t written about. soooo much potential. it’s wonderful. everything is great.

2. Brainy Bunch, the Saddest AU Ever.

god, I love that I came up with that title.

Anyway! again, this would be bigger if I knew more about the Brainiacs, but as it is, I still enjoy it a whole lot even though the situation these kids are in is so terrible. mostly because Brainysupes as a relationship is healthy and flourishing despite everything, and Kaja and Ginger are the best aunts. and there’s a weird-ass sideplot that I mention sometimes when I care about it.

3. Teenage Coluan, which still doesn’t have a tag. But! There have been 2 entire fics of it, and a bunch of minifics, and it’s the purest AU that also has Fabala in it? Mostly because of Kaja, who I also love, and Clark and Kara, who are the cutest human friends for Querl.

4. AU: trouble is a friend. it is very new, and there’s not much of it, which is why it’s low, but I still love it. mostly because we get Fabala at her bitchiest, and also Demon!Alexis, who is a pure delight even though I have no clue how to write her

5. AU: these are the names we’re given, and it’s only so low because it’s gotten my hopes up for character dynamics that, at minimum, aren’t happening until the second half of SG season 3, if they end up happening at all which they probably won’t. but seriously, it’s beautiful and produced your real magnum opus.

Honorable mentions to Reverse Brainy Bunch, which is good and pure, and that stupid Clark with a mustache AU that only exists because of Henry Cavill. and the Hogwarts AU. because I have no idea how I didn’t think more about it until recently, it’s great. aaaaand oh my god. I completely forgot about the Toddler Clark AU. that one is pure and good and Kara getting to take care of her cousin is gorgeous and Brainy telling the story-that’s-not-a-story to Clark made me almost cry.

also I love the Fabala coming back AU, because that’s gonna be a Thing that happens in a fic, thank you so much for that, seriously please let me help out with chapter 10 i will edit it for you it’s gonna be great i know it and how could I not mention the Green Lantern Brainy AU, which is great and will get more material once I actually read more about the Green Lanterns and/or just rewatch GLTAS because I’m a lazy-ass. and of course the reversed-obvious crush AU, even though again it doesn’t have much to it, but Clark is adorable in it every single time
