Thackery Binx x Reader
Second Chance
Prompt(s): “Thackery Binx and a girl from his town before he was turned into a cat secretly meet up as friends then eventually fall for each other. Her father is also head of the towns church.” And “Can you do a oneshot for Thackery binx where the reader is max and Danis older sister and she's there throughout the whole dealing with the witches thing and Thackery starts to fall in love the second he sees the reader and the reader starts to fall for Thackery as well since he's always near her protecting her and in the end he's given the chance to stay or go to heaven and his sister tells him to stay with the reader”
Note: I have literally been in love with Thackery Binx forever. Like, FOREVER. So, obviously, I got carried away and wrote a huge long fic. Enjoy!
Warnings: hella fluff <3
Word Count: 2352
You were certain that Thackery Binx was the most handsome boy in the colony, or perhaps to have ever lived. He had left you as smitten as a kitten with a racing heart and flushed cheeks every time you thought about your sweetheart.
When you stepped out of the tiny shack you called home, a note had been nailed to the end of the post.
“My Love,
Meet me behind the church at dusk.
I have something I have waited long to give to you.
Sincerest Wishes,
-Thackery”
You folded the note and tucked it into the belt of your apron, a grin spreading across your now-rosy cheeks at the thought of meeting your secret lover under the setting sun. The day passed so slow, each moment inching by at the pace of a snail. As soon as the sun began to approach the horizon, you made your way behind the church.
Thackery was standing there, leaning against the side of the building facing away from you. The sleeves of his white shirt billowed in the wind, and his hands were shoved into the pockets of his brown trousers.
You snuck up behind him, a mischievous smile tugging at your lips. Quietly, you crept forward until you were standing less than a foot away and then wrapped your arms around him from behind. You pressed a kiss to his cheek.
“Hello, Thackery. How hast thou been?”
“It has been too long, my love.” He whispered, turning to face you. “I’ve missed you terribly.”
“Likewise.” Your eyes met his and only found love in his gaze. He pulled you in and pressed a long kiss to your lips, a hand stroking your cheek and another grasping your hip. You wrapped your arms around his neck, smiling into the kiss until he abruptly pulled away. Each of you was gasping for breath, foreheads resting against the other.
“Mustn't forget my gift.”
“Ah, and what didst thou bring me, Thackery?”
He reached into his pocket, fist closed around something small and precious. He took your hand with one of his and pressed something cold into it. A ring. You gasped, looking it over with wide eyes.
“Thackery-”
“I want you to be my wife.” He wrapped both of your hands in both of yours, waiting for your reply with anxious eyes.
“I want nothing more than to be forever yours.”
And then the two of you joined in a perfect kiss.
***
You woke up with a smile on your face. The dream seemed to get more real each time you had it. Your fingers drifted up to your lips, and you could swear they were still warm from his kiss. And yet, by the time your eyes opened, the memory of it was already beginning to fade. By the afternoon, you feared it’d be gone altogether.
But these dreams weren’t made to last forever. You had to get to school at some time or another, and you didn’t really want to be the new girl AND be late.
Your family had moved to Salem about a week ago, and tonight was the last day of your first week in a new school. The California jokes seemed to be unending, but it seemed your brother Max was getting the worst of it. Something about his slacker attitude and his hatred of your new home seemed to attract all the bullies.
It probably didn’t help that tonight was Halloween.
School passed quickly, and soon enough, you were home again, working on some of the homework your heartless Algebra II teacher had given you. No one gave homework on Halloween weekend except for him, and instead of waiting until Sunday, you decided to get it out of the way while you were still able to muster some motivation.
“(Y/NNNNN),” You younger sister, Dani, whined as she came down the stairs. Your best guess: she had pissed off Max again and he had probably yelled at her.
“What?”
“Max said he won’t take me trick-or-treating!”
“Why not?”
“I don’t know!”
“I’ll go talk to him.” You told her, walking up the stairs to your stubborn brother’s room, where he was playing his drums. “Max, open up!”
“Ugh, what do you want?”
You opened the door and crossed your arms.
“What did you do to Dani?”
“Nothing! She was antagonizing me!”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. Doesn’t change the fact that you have to take her out tonight.”
“Why am I stuck on babysitting duty?”
“Because I’ve been stuck on babysitting duty for years.”
“Ughhhhhh,” He rolled his eyes. “Come onnn, (Y/N), you know she likes you better than me! Why don’t you take her?”
“Two girls alone at night in the city? Sounds like a great plan. I’ll get right on that.”
“Could you at least come with us?” he asked. You thought about it for a second. “Sure. I guess I’ll find a costume somewhere.”
“Thanks.”
“Don’t mention it.”
***
Your brother was an idiot. A stupid, stupid idiot that was trying to show off and lit the Black Flame Candle to look cool. Well, you know what’s not cool? Three ancient witches coming back from the dead to eat all of the children of Salem.
Oh, and the cat was talking.
You were pretty sure by this point that you must be insane. This couldn’t be happening. This couldn’t be real. This was some horrible dream. You were sure that at any moment you’d wake up in your bed just in time to get to school.
“The graveyard?” you asked as the talking cat led you, Max, Dani, and Allison down the sidewalk.
“Witches can’t set foot on hallowed ground.” He explained. That seemed to make sense. You followed him inside the gates and over to where he settled on one of the graves. It was then that the cat finally got a look at you.
‘Of course,’ Thackery thought. ‘By some cruel twist of the fates, she’s here.’
His green eyes were wide, frozen on your face, studying your features.
“Um, are you okay?” you asked him.
“I’ve worked for three hundred years to protect that candle, to stop the witches from returning, and all of my efforts become fruitless because of some air-headed virgin…” He shook his head.
“You’re Thackery Binx!” Allison finally put the pieces together. She had learned about him since she was a little girl. His story was one of Salem legend. “They turned you into a cat!”
“Thackery Binx…” You murmured. Why did that name sound so familiar? You had heard that name before. You knew you had. And his voice…you could have sworn you had heard it before. But that was impossible, wasn’t it?
‘She doesn’t remember,’ Thackery watched the wheels turn in your head with sad eyes. Of course, you wouldn’t remember. You had died three hundred years ago with a fever. And given his form as a cat, there was nothing he could do to talk to you or help you or tell you he loved you before you passed away.
He shook off the thoughts. Couldn’t get too distracted with such things while there were three child-hungry witches on the loose.
“Come on. We haven’t any time to lose.”

“So they turned you into a cat. That sucks.” You and Thackery had broken into the library in an attempt to find spellbooks of the white witch variety. Light magic wouldn’t attract the Sanderson Sisters. With any hope, it would destroy them once and for all.
“Indeed.” Thackery walked through the library, looking as high as he could to read the labels on the shelves. You shined your flashlight on a few of them as you passed. Nothing so far. “You look like someone I used to know.”
“Oh really?”
“You sound like her and…the two of you share a name.”
“Who was she?”
“My beloved. She…passed on after they turned me into this. Scarlet Fever. I didn’t even really get to say goodbye, so as you can imagine, seeing you struck me silent. I apologize if this seems odd to you or makes you…uncomfortable.”
“You were engaged, weren’t you?”
“Yes. We were.” He replied, perking up a little.
“It was behind the church.” You stated, memories flashing in your mind. “At sunset. You had nailed a note to-”
“The post in front of her house. How…how could you possibly know that?”
“And the ring…It was simple; a silver band with a sapphire set into it, but it was the most gorgeous thing I- she had ever…”
“How…how did…how could…” Thackery was looking up at you. There were tears in your eyes. You knelt down on the floor, letting the tears roll down your cheeks.
“We were supposed to get married.” Your voice broke. “We were going to start a family and then…and then you just disappeared and so did Emily and I cried for weeks and…”
“You…remember?”
“I remember enough. I’ve been having these dreams for weeks. Months maybe.” You went quiet for a moment, stopping to wipe away your tears. “We have to find a spell book. There has to be a way to change you back. To make you human again.”
“If anyone can find it, we can.”
***
The sun began to peek over the horizon, and as it did, the Sanderson Sisters came to an abrupt end. You looked around for Thackery, but you couldn’t seem to find him anywhere. And then Dani found him.
“Binx!” She cried. You, Max, and Allison made your way over to them. Sure enough, there he was, his small black body lying there limp and lifeless. You waited with bated breath for the life to flow back into him like it did last time.
He had to be okay. He had waited three hundred years for you to come back and now you were finally here. You…you couldn’t lose him now.
“He’s gone,” Allison realized.
“Are you alright?” Max asked softly. You had explained the situation to him earlier, so when he saw the sadness on your face, he knew what must be going through your head right about now.
“No.” the tears were coming fast now, and Dani was in similar shape. “No, I’m not.”
“Oh, don’t cry for me.” You heard his voice and immediately looked to the lifeless cat. Nothing. You looked around, eyes falling on a spirit dressed in a baggy white shirt and brown trousers.
“Thackery…” you got to your feet as quickly as you could. “You’re-”
“Finally free.” He whispered. “I’m finally free, (Y/N). I can be with Emily now.”
“Is it selfish to wish you could stay with me?” there was a crack in your voice. He reached forward, a cold hand wiping away your tears.
“I shall always be with you.” The way he was looking at you both filled you with hope and broke your heart. He was leaving. He was moving on to a better place after three hundred years of living a life alone. And you tried to be happy for him, but you couldn’t help being mad at him for leaving you again.
“Oh, Thackery! Thackery Binx!” a young girl in a white dress and a white bonnet approached the gates, smiling at Thackery.
“It’s Emily.” He smiled.
“What took thee so long?” she asked.
“I had to wait three hundred years for a virgin to light a candle.” He walked closer to the gates. Emily was standing just on the other side. You and the others followed, standing behind Thackery.
“Thackery, you’ve been given another chance.” She told him. Her eyes flickered over to you before landing on her brother. “Your life was cut short by the use of black magic. They’re giving you another chance to live a life.”
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“You…you mean he can stay?” it seemed too good to be true, but the young girl nodded.
“You can come with me now and go to heaven or you can stay on earth and live out the rest of your natural life before joining me on the other side.” Thackery nodded, thinking. “The choice is yours.”
“I…” he looked to you, smiled a warm smile, and then looked back to her. “I choose to stay here.”
“Very well. I shall see thee soon, Thackery.” Emily waved her hand and then she was gone. You stared at Thackery. He became less and less transparent until suddenly, he was solid. Flesh and bone. You reached out for his hand and came in contact with warmth. His fingers curled around your own and he stared wide-eyed at his other hand. He moved his fingers, wiggled his toes.
Thackery wavered, but you held him steady.
“Woah, take it easy there.” You smiled. He smiled too, laughing.
“I suppose I’m not accustomed to…having two legs. Or thumbs for that matter.”
“Welcome back, dude!” Max gave him a pat on the back.
“Glad to be back,” he smiled, looking at you for a few seconds before wrapping his arms tight around your waist and spinning you around. “We have plenty of lost time to make up for, my love.”
“But now, we have all the time in the world.”
***
It was months later. You were sitting beside Thackery on the couch, knitting beside the fireplace while his arms coiled tightly around your waist. He pressed several kisses to your cheek and jaw and neck. This, you were certain, was what heaven must be like.
“I love you.” He murmured against your skin. “I love you more than the stars in the sky. I love you more than all the world’s oceans.”
“I love you too, Thackery.” You leaned into his warmth, finishing off the blanket you had been working on seemingly forever. You draped it on top of both of your pairs of legs and then shoved your needles and yarn back into your bag. “And I think that (Y/N) Binx has a nice ring to it.”
“So do I.” He rested his chin on your shoulder, fiddling with the ring wrapped around your finger. “And what a life that will be…”
