How I study for the CPA Exam
Hey guys!!
I have been getting a lot of questions about how I study. So background story, I first started studying in April 2016. I started with Roger, and didn’t take it serious at all. Due to while in college I didn’t study much and received good grades.  Fast forward, I paid for 7 different test, took 4 of those I paid for and failed all of them. So I took some time off to really think if I wanted the CPA behind my name.
I received a study plan from ( @yay_cpanfit_jrny ) and I fine-tuned it to my personalized schedule.
Basis concept, one chapter (section) spend two days on. I am using roger, so a chapter would be a section. So I used Roger’s template whatever section he said would do on that day one section, two section. How many, and I split it over two days.
Day one I will watch lectures, read the book, take notes. I normally read the book first so I have an understanding. Watching lectures are harder for me to follow after 10 minutes, ADD starts kicking in I tell you. So reading and note taking for me keeps me focused. And I will def. watch lectures for topics I do not understand. I’ll make flashcards of vocab words also.
On the second day is H/W day. I do the MCQ, make flash cards of MCQ I got wrong. When I do MCQ the first time, I do have the book out and I’m looking through it to find the answers or similar problems to walk through it. I also make notes on MCQ I got wrong, like key points that the answer solutions. Yes the first time I go through the MCQ I suck and I am getting 30-40%. After I do the number Rogers smartpath says, I will go back and do only the wrong questions. I will either already know the answer cause I saw it before but I will force myself to tell myself why it is the correct answer.
After every 3-4 sections, I do progress test. I do quiz with 15 questions. And depending on how many questions are in those sections I’ll do about half of them. Yes this changes my score in the smartpath section. So after I do half of the question, I go back and do quiz of only wrong answers to bring up my smartpath back to target met. I also do progress test for all sections I’ve covered, I only do about 3 quizzes of 15 questions each. And if my target met changes, I’ll do some more questions in that section to get my target met again.
On weekends I try and do a whole section in a day, just because I have more time to study and break up between morning and night!
I am on a 9 month study plan. I did make sure that I have one day a week off from studying. I also made my exam days not around important days coming up. Memorial Day my birthday, homecoming, thanksgiving.
With my study plan, I should be done by December! If you need an excel of my schedule just let me know. As this is extremely not detailed.
I hope this helps.
