Shane laid in bed with the blanket pulling into a roll. Ryan and Shane made their pillow wall between them. Ryan was passed out his hand was under the wall as if reaching for Shane's hand. Shane held onto Ryan's fingers.
What was he going to do? He wanted to pull Ryan into his arms. Ryan hardly talked about how he felt about finding his neighbour dead. Shane’s action didn’t help. He felt distant from Ryan. “Oh, Ryan,” Shane whispered and pulled the pillows away from his face. “Oh, Ryan, Oh, Ryan,” he said reaching over and pushing Ryan’s hair out of his face.
He pulled away when Ryan moved over to his other side. Shane laid there looking up at the ceiling for half an hour before looking at the balcony sliding door. There was a person outside, “Ned?” Shane said sitting up and swing his legs over the edge of the bed. Ned moved away from the door so Shane could open it.
“Sorry to bother you,” Ned said. “Do you have a few minutes?”
“Sure,” Shane said walking out to the balcony.
“Ryan and Serenity will be okay alone?” Ned said leaning on the railing.
“Yeah, Ryan has the pendant and there's a salt circle around Serenity," he sat down on the deck chair. Shan rubbed his hair in frustration.
“So do you have any game plan for these demons?” Ned said.
“No, I don’t,” Shane said. “In the past, I kind of just travelled everywhere; I didn’t have to deal with something like this,” he rubbed the bridge of his nose.
“It’s Ryan,” Ned said
“What?”
“You are still in love with Ryan,” Ned said sitting on the deck railing.
“I’m not a high school girl. I don’t have crushes on people,” Shane said crossing his arms.
“I’m not calling you a high school girl, but you are acting like one,” Ned said. “Do you think...you could leave this town?”
“Why?”
“It seemed that the demons are killing people who look like Ryan or people Ryan knows. Because of this, a kid without her parents,” Ned said.
“I’m not leaving Ryan alone,” He said raising his voice at Ned.
“Shhh..” Ned said.
“Shane?” Ryan said opening the door. “What are you doing out here?’
“Huh,” Shane said turning around and seeing Ryan leaning against the sliding door. “I...how long have you been standing there,” Shane said looking back at the railing where Ned had been. He was gone.
“I hear talking and saw you on the deck,” Ryan said reaching his hand out to Shane. “You should come back in. It’s not safe,” he said taking Shane’s hand and pulling him in.
“Ryan,” Shane said as he let go of his hand.
“Yeah?” Ryan said going back to his bed.
“I’m going to check on Serenity,” he said, but the salt around the door would prevent him from going in.
“Okay,” Ryan said as Shane left the room.
Shane checked up on her, but never went back upstairs. He went to the kitchen and leaned against the counter. “How was Serenity?” Ryan said walking into the living room with his phone in his hands
“Huh,” Shane said looking up.
“You can’t sleep?”
“Yeah,” Shane didn’t need to sleep, but he liked doing it.
“Is there something bothering you?” Ryan said putting his phone into his sweatpants pocket.
“It’s nothing,” Shane said.
“Okay, but if you want to talk you know I’m here,” Ryan said. “We are detective partners and demon hunters.”
“Thanks, Ryan,” Shane said. “You should do the same.”
“Thanks,” He said.

"O fuck me," Shane said under his breath as they started walking towards the house. There was a demon in the house that they were about to enter.
“Did you same something?” Ryan said looking back.
“I don’t feel so well,” he lied, but held onto his stomach and put his hand on his mouth.
“Oh,” Ryan said putting his hand on Shane’back and arm. He rubbed Shane’s back to comfort him. “Come on let’s get you back into the car,” he said. “It must be food poisoning.”
“I think so,” Shane said as they got into the car.
“We should just go back to the motel room. You look a little white and you are sweating,” Ryan pushed Shane’s bangs from his face.
“Here, I’ll leave this here,” Ryan said putting the trash can next to the bed. “I can’t believe you got sick.”
“Yeah, tragic,” Shane said laughing.
“Are you feeling better?”
“A lot better,” Shane said.
Ryan fell asleep in the chair watching TV. Shane got out of bed and took the motel and Ryan’s car keys. He got into the car and starting to drive to the house.

Shane and Ryan walked into Ryan’s office. “Serenity, this is my office,” Ryan said as Shane put her down in Ryan’s chair. “I’m a police detective.”
“I know,” Serenity said playing with the bear’s hands.
“You do?”
“I’ve seen you on TV with him,” She said shyly.
“Okay, so you know that we want to ask you questions about your parents. They’re going to be quick,” Ryan said. “Shane will be the one asking you the questions.” Shane pulled out his notebook and pen.
“Serenity. What is your full name?”
“Serenity Lizzy Alby,” she said clutching the bear.
“How old are you?”
“Six.”
“What are your parents' names?”
“Grayson and Mabel Alby,” she said as Shane wrote down her words.
“Do you have any family in town?” Shane said and Serenity shook her head. “I’ll take that as a no.” He said looking at Ryan. “You have a friend or a family friend that could take you in?” She shook her head again. “Nobody?” Shane said looking back at Ryan. “Don’t you worry. We will find someone to take you in.” Ryan nodded in agreement. Serenity nodded as there was a small knock at the door.
“Come in,” Ryan said.
“Bergara- Madej. I got the call,” He said and noticed Serenity sitting down in the chair. He walked into the room. “My you must be Serenity. Terribly sorry about the situation,” Keith said. “Could I grab Shane for a minute please?”
“Sure,” Ryan said looking at Shane who was closing his notebook. Ryan watched as Shan left with Keith. “Don’t worry they will be back. Do you want to play a game?”
“Madej, I’m pulling you and Bergara off the investigation,” Keith said sitting down. “I don’t know what these demons are doing, but they are getting awfully close to Bergara.”
“That’s what I wanted to talk to you about,” Shane said.
“Do you know why the demons are killing look-alikes and people who are close to Ryan?”
“I don’t know, but I think they are trying to mock me,” Shane said.
“Mock you?”
“I was supposed to kill Ryan off, but I chickened out. Now they are coming for me and Ryan,” Shane said.
“You’re still too weak to keep the domain up,” Keith said rubbing his forehead. “I should get Ned back on board.”
“That piece of shit,” Shane said leaning on the desk.
“You have no right to speak out at me,” Keith said. “I want you to stay in town because you have been good to us. Ryan too.” He said picking up the phone. “ I need Ned and anyone he could round up to help. You should too.”
“Fine. What do we do with the girl?”
“Take her home. She’s a lot safer there. You guys are hunters,” Keith said and got through to Ned. “Ned, I’ll talk to you later, Madej.” He said and went back to the phone. Shane walked out of the room. Ryan was holding Serenity in his arm talking with a few of the ladies.
“Shane,” Ryan said. “I mean... Detective, what did the Chief talk to you about?”
“We’ll you and Serenity will be staying at my house,” Shane said looking at the two of them.
“Okay,” Ryan said. Shane leaned in and whispered.
“We are in trouble Stay on guard,” Shane said and pulled away. He smiled at Serenity.

“Ryan, you need to let me go,” Shane said with his eyes glossing fully black. Salt was surrounding Shane. He looked out the window and there was a salt line. “Ryan!” Shane yelled back.
“I can’t. You’re...you’re monster.”
“I’m not the monster that you should be fighting. I’m trying to protect you from them.” Shane crossed his arms. Ryan was about to vomit, and he collapsed onto his knees. “I know that this is a lot to take in.” He said was becoming upset and his horns and fangs were showing.
“You’re a demon,” Ryan said trying coughing.
“I know,” Shane said.
“I kissed you,” Ryan said.
“I know,” He said.
“Did I make a pact with the devil?”
“I’m a demon and you haven’t made a pact,” Shane said as Ryan tried to stand up, but his knees were giving out. “Ryan, let me out.” Ryan walked towards the washroom. Shane could hear the door shut and lock. “Hey Ryan, I don’t like being trapped by a salt line,” Shane called out but gave up as Ryan didn’t respond.
“Hey, Ryan do you still have salsa for the chips,” Shane said opening the fridge as Ryan walked into the living room. “Ryan, can you hear me?” Ryan didn’t respond. “Ryan, I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you that I was a demon.”
“Just leave,” Ryan said walking over and kicking away the salt line. Shane jumped onto the other side and walked towards the door. He was about to close the door. “Sorry.”
“Just get out,” Ryan said as Shane shut the door.

“What,” Shane said as Ryan pulled his hand away from him.
“Your face,” Ryan said as he turned away. Shane could see Ryan’s angel wings. “Why can I see your demon face?”
“Because you’re becoming aware of your angel powers,” Shane said pointed to the wings that were on his back. Ryan turned around and noticed gold wing.
“What?” He said trying to grab hold of one of the wings. “I’m an angel? When did this happen?”
“You made a pack with an angel,” Shane said. “My best bet was when you were in the car accident.”
“This can’t be happening,” Ryan said pulling at one of the wings. “How do I put them away? I don’t want people to know.”
“I don’t think it matters. Regular people can’t see supernatural creatures.” Shane said.
“But...”
“The people who can see are other supernatural creatures.”
“Why aren’t you freaking out like me?”
“I knew the first day that you were an angel. I’ve dealt with angels before,” Shane said. “Good thing you didn’t know you were an angel. You have ripped me to pieces.” Ryan started laughing and he took his face. He pressed his lips against Shane's lips. “What was that for?”
“I don’t know. I love you and even if I wanted to rip you piece by piece I would have done it. Whether or not I was an angel. You a pain in the ass.”
“That’s heartwarming,” he said kissing him.

“You don’t believe that you should be saved,” Shane said as Ryan stood in his chair. Shane was holding his hand. “Because you don’t believe you should be loved.”
“Shane.”
“Is that it?” Shane said, “That you think so lowly of yourself that you can’t bring yourself to love anymore.”
“Shane, it’s not like that.”
“I think so- you were some nobody detective that got into a car crash.”
“Stop,” Ryan screamed.
Ryan woke up drenched in sweat. “Ryan,” Shane said as Ryan sat up in bed. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes. “Was it another nightmare?”
“Yeah, sorry,” Ryan said rubbed his face.
“Come here,” He said pulling him closer. “Whatever was in that dream. It’s not real.” Shane kissed his forehead. “I’m still here. Nothing will touch you and I love you.”
“Thanks,” Ryan said pressing his face into Shane’s chest. “I love you too.”
