rereading network effect this time with the foreknowledge that fugitive telemetry is not a sequel to it (and having actually read them chronologically rather than in publishing order), I am forced to conclude that it is actually a fairly satisfactory/hopeful conclusion to murderbot's character arc, so although I so desperately want to see its adventures with ART and its crew, it won't be the end of the world if martha wells never writes a sequel. I'd just be extremely disappointed instead of absolutely heartbroken
#it may be why she found it easier to jump backward in the timeline than write a straight sequel#when she wrote fugitive telemetry#but that's pure speculation. and I have no info saying one way or the other#if she's planning to write more#desperately hope she does but 🤷♀️#she hit one ending (exit strategy) already and kept writing so 🤞#she so clearly gave herself a narrative thread to pick up that I have to assume she's at least considered it#but murderbot finally having an idea of what it wants to do in life is also a pretty good end point#all its interpersonal stuff except with ART's crew has been pretty much resolved#arguably its stuff with mensah's fam on the whole is still unresolved but having thiago and amena on its side should clear that up#even three seems to fill a narrative niche of ''what about the rest of the secunits'' since it y'know. likes them.#may plot a construct revolution. ykwim.#anyway book good; reread bits immediately after finishing it#because watching ART want to destroy a literal world for murderbot is exquisitely good#for me. personally.#I love friendships where they will murder for each other and that's this entire book
