i did win 2 Honoka figures for less than $15. of course it will cost almost triple that to ship them but WORTH IT lol happy new year to ME. i don't have any expenses planned for january (not going to the con like i did this year, and not going to visit my mom bc i do Not have enough to do that in the first place) so i might as well be extravagant while i can...right?

i want to try to cut down on kpop purchases next year because i looked at my spreadsheet and did some calculations as to how much i've spent and honestly. take me out back and put me down, i'm a CASUAL purchaser and it still made me wince lmfao. like on one hand i earned the money so i get to spend it on what i want. but on the other hand i still feel bad about buying non-essential things for myself. but on the third hand life is short and sucks a lot so why shouldn't i buy things to make my life brighter while i can!? and on my fourth final hand i'm very conservative in my spending and control the number of groups i buy for, so! why shouldn't i! as a treat!!

My Review of Love Live Superstar

I never left Idol Hell. Every season, I find myself watching something idol related or playing one of the rhythm games. And now I just happen to be back in Love Live’s grip. So, who’s escapade am I watching now, Honoka, Chika, Ayumu, or one of those so-so grabs from LLSIF?

None mentioned!

That is correct. Superstar was announced in early 2020, shortly after learning about the Love Live Nijigasaki series that was to come later that year. This time, fans got a chance to input name ideas for the name of the group and the name of the school these girls will attend.

SUPERSTAR: So, we all knew going in this new story that it was going to be different from all of the other series to come from the franchise. Yes, all of the series have stark differences, but end up becoming school idols in the end. Let’s take a look and Yuigaoka High School to see how the girls there differ from all the others in the Love Live franchise.

Kanon Shibuya always loved singing. Once she puts on her headphones, she’s on full blast. The only problem is that when she has to perform, like in an audition or solo performance, she freezes up. This even caused problems when she was auditioning for an entrance into Yuigaoka High School (a school famous for its music program). Kanon was still accepted into the school, it’s just that she was shunned from the music department, so she’s only a regular student in the general studies program. Kanon just decided to give up her dreams of singing. But on her way to school, she was singing without realizing and caught the attention of another student. Keke Tang was enthralled and wanted to know more about Kanon.

Later in the day, we learn that Keke is a student originally from Shanghai. So, we’re keeping with the tradition of having one member in the group not Japanese. And then we see she came to Japan to be a school idol. I guess Keke is pretty much like Emma from Nijigasaki since she did that exact same thing! But the girls are constantly stopped by a student council member (Ren). She bans their attempts at them starting a school idol club (much like Eli and Dia from previous series). Thankfully, the principal had a little mercy by allowing Kanon and Keke to start an idol group at school under the condition that they win 1st place in a local competition. While it was damn-near impossible, the girls won a special newcomer award for their performance and the principal caved in on giving Keke and Kanon the opportunity to start a school idol club.

LICENSING: When this first came out it was a FUNimation exclusive and no one else could touch it. But once the FUNimation/Crunchyroll merger happened, Crunchyroll slowly got ahold of this anime. Love Live Superstar eventually made its way onto the catalog, like one week before the second season aired. It was a long wait, but we got it. My only gripe was that I was watching this weekly and would get impatient with each episode. The episodes would air in Japan Sunday night (my time) and I would have to wait 24 hours for the major sites to get it. Stupid, first-world gripe!

NEW CHARACTERS: As usual, we have the barrage of high school girls with aspirations of either becoming an idol or something in that field. And once again as usual, we have brand-new seiyuus voicing these characters. In fact, only one of the girls has one anime credit to her name because Liyuu sang a couple of theme songs for anime. Before I get to the seiyuu list, let’s talk about the girls of Liella.

As I’ve mentioned in the synopsis, Kanon has a gift of song. Unfortunately, stage fright has always been her biggest cripple. As a result, she was never given a chance to do a solo and it even messed with her chances of being admitted into the music program at school and was instead shoved in the general studies program. It wasn’t until she met Keke and got interested in becoming a school idol that things started to change in terms of her stage fright.

Keke came to Japan from Shanghai in order to become a school idol. And after listening to Kanon singing, Keke was convinced that Kanon must become an idol with her. But Keke’s first inspiration came from an idol duo named Sunny Passion. Funny enough, Sunny Passion ended up becoming the girl’s first and main rival.

Sumire joined the school idol club in hopes of being awarded the title of “center”. That’s cute, lady! As it turns out, Sumire has some experience in show business. Even though her biggest role was when she was a child in an isopod costume dancing, she still sees that as a win (if not totally embarrassing). Get ready to see a lot of scenes of her dancing in the isopod costume. And just like many other Love Live characters with catchphrases, Sumire has one too.

Chisato is Kanon’s very close friend and they’ve stayed close for many years. Chisato got in the dance program at school. So, when Kanon and Keke ended up forming the school idol club, Chisato decided to help the girls with training. Chisato ends up an idol eventually, it’s just that it took a while because of a dance competition.

Ren’s story gets a little complicated. Yes, she’s the typical snotty president. And she does reject the idea of there being any kind of idol activity on campus. But in reality, her mother was a school idol when she was in high school. In fact, her mother was an idol in order to save her school from shutting down. Where have I heard that story before? Anyways, it didn’t go well and the school closed. But Ren’s mother worked hard to bring to life another school in its place that focuses on music programs (Yuigaoka). But in later years and after her death, the school faces closure and Ren faces having to leave Japan to go live with her father. But does she change her outlook and join Kanon? Come on, you all know the answer already.

SHIPPING?: I know it’s almost impossible asking me what I support in any Love Live series without going total multi on everyone (with some exceptions). In the first season, I wasn’t totally thrilled with anything with a few love/hate moments between Sumire and Keke, but that’s all from them. Come season two, I raise my eyebrow slightly at the sight of Mei and Shiki…and then again at Mei and Ren. Mei is total lez-chow and I stand by that.

Yeah, I’m a Mei x Shiki shipper after all that.

IS THIS A FIRST?: When it comes to female idol shows, usually the male gender is rare if not non-existent. When it comes to the Love Live franchise, men are literally non-existent physically. All the parents seen are female. Mari from Love Live Sunshine had a father, we were damn sure of that. But not once was he seen or heard. Every school for the Love Live animes were strictly female-only schools. Every character who had a sibling has to be a sister or too young to notice. So, excuse me while I spit out my ginger ale when I see Kanon’s father not once, but twice in the series.

I mean yeah, they didn’t give him a face and he doesn’t say anything. But he exists! Look at this fool. They have to have him face away from his daughter because the anime dictates it. He totally exists in an idol anime. I think he’s some kind of linguist. That’s the most I’ve ever heard of a father in the Love Live franchise in like, ever!

END OF SEASON ONE: After getting Ren to join the group, the girls face their toughest struggle(s). Love Live! Yes, we get the actual Love Live competition in this series. Now let’s list all the problems these girls have. What’s this groups official name? What about songs? Who’s going to write these lyrics? What kind of music? Better call Kanon to figure everything out.

You know what? Kanon does too much for his group. I can understand helping Chisato out, they’re besties! But Kanon became an idol because Keke begged her, overcame her massive stage-fright, did all the music to all the songs sung up to this point, help Ren sort out her mommy issues, and now she’s gotta do all this. She’s the most hardcore of the leaders of Love Live. Apparently, this year there was a record number of school idols competing in Love Live. And so, there’s going to be preliminary rounds to weed out the unwanted. First, we got a rap battle.

And I gotta tell you, whenever I think of rap and anime, I get the giggles. Whether Veronica Taylor doing a rap for KidsWB or Akio’s rap in Clannad, 9 times out of 10, I will laugh! And this episode did not let me down in the laughter department. But we did get some character growth for Sumire. The girl who was never given a chance to shine on stage gets her chance and the girls make it to the next round. Okay, next qualifier. Solos!

LET’S PILE MORE SHIT ON KANON! Oh yeah, they sure did. They chose Kanon to do the solo. Not only that, but get her to sing for her old elementary school by herself, literally forcing her to confront her fears of performing in front of an audience from where the trauma first started. Dick move, guys. I know everything turned out okay for Kanon and she was able to make peace with the past, but seriously that was just fucked. Chisato does dance moves, Keke makes costumes, and Kanon does everything else. What the fuck guys? Ren, Sumire, pick up some slack, you fucking dead-weights!

Well, it’s time to prepare for the next qualifier and we do get several good notes to go on here. The school has dodged the shut-down fairy that shows up quie a bit in this franchise. A lot of girls are interested in enrolling for the next school year. Add to that, Ren’s father sends money in order for the school to stay thriving and for Ren to continue to live in town. And the girls are going to perform their qualifier in style thanks to the people of town and their dedicated classmates. Their performance was…it had Snow Halation vibes. Did anybody else feel that way too?

Unlike that performance, this gave the girls of Liella a big dose of reality. Second place! This finally struck a chord with Kanon who up to this point was just trying to overcome her crippling stage fright. It hurts to lose. But the girls of Liella are going to work even harder for the next Love Live and we will see that next season.

Holy God damn, two Love Lives in one year!

SEASON TWO: Here’s something we’ve never seen in any Love Live up to this point, the girls are one year older. Yeah, all of the Love Live series are kinda set in the world’s longest school year. But the Liella girls are now second years and are about to be senpais to a bunch of incoming freshmen. Ooh, does this mean we’re getting new members?

Yes. Yes, we are!

The incoming freshmen were aware of Liella and were big fans of the group. It’s just that no one wants to venture on and become part of the school idol group out of intimidation. They all know how close Liella came to getting into Love Live and that their rivals Sunny Passion see them as their biggest rival (despite competing at a higher level than Liella).

New student Kinako Sakurakouji (from Hokkaido) kinda stumbled upon the girls practicing and they have high hopes for her (despite being a “Plain-Jane”). Kinako wasn’t aware of the appeal of Liella or school idols until she watched a prior performance and was entranced. Other students like Mei (the one with the red hair) knew of the group, but was one of those who feared of screwing up their chances of making it to the top. Shiki (the one with the blue hair) joined Liella on her own only to get under Mei’s skin, but enjoyed it so much that she decided to stay on as a permanent member. And Natsumi (the one with the blonde hair) is a V-tuber! We get a little deeper with Natsumi as she seemed to have failed on many dreams, but eventually got bitten by the idol bug. Now we have the standard 9 members.

As of the date of posting this review, the English cast for the four new members has not been announced, nor has there been a drop on an English dub coming out.

TWO RIVALS: So, this season of Love Live, Liella has another rival to look out for. We’ve seen different kinds of rivals throughout the Love Live franchise. A-Rise was a challenge for µ's, but supportive nonetheless. Saint Snow was one of those rivals where they had chips on their shoulder, but became allies to Aqours. As for Nijigasaki, I can’t really say any of the other schools were rivals. Everyone worked together and everyone had each other’s back. This series has the duo group Sunny Passion. They’re kinda like A-Rise in a way. They’re challenging to Liella, yet supportive. In the second season, Sunny Passion was still there. And then the creators thought, how about we give Liella another rival?

Meet Wien Margarete! She…oh, I am being told that I put up the wrong stock-photo of her and that this is really a picture of some Himalayan pink salt.

Here’s Wien Margarete for real. She has low opinions on school idols and idol competitions. And has this fixation with Kanon that I don’t know if it’s grudge-worthy or a tsundere in the making. Make your own call on her. What’s a nice way to say this? Margarete is like all of Ash Ketchum’s asshole rivals mashed into one with a vagina. You’re so welcome for that image!

So, was it absolutely necessary to have another rival for Liella? Sure, why the hell not? I honestly think that she’s only going to be a temporary rival. Isn’t she only a middle schooler? If she’s in her final year there, she could enter Yuigaoka High School if we’re to get a third season. But at this point and time, it feels like a little overkill to have two rivals for Liella. Sunny Passion was a hard rival to beat. They beat Liella the previous year and with this being their final year to compete in Love Live, they might be unbeatable. At least that’s what we all thought until little miss pink salty bitch came in and beat Sunny Passion in the qualifiers.

ENDING: Liella is about to go through the same thing as the year prior, Tokyo prelims for the Love Live. As we all remember, they came in second to Sunny Passion. This year, Sunny Passion isn’t even in the competition. They lost to the solo idol Wien Margarete. And sucks for them as this was Sunny Passion’s final chance to compete in Love Live since both of them are graduating high school this year. Margarete is a unique idol. She made her stance about school idols and the Love Live competition during a video conference. It was not looked upon favorably. Regardless of her salty-bitch attitude, Margarete is no one to mess with. She’s fierce! She even beat Liella earlier in the season at a local competition. So, the stakes are pretty freakin’ high.

The second years once again came upon this dilemma of having the first years perform in the competition or just have the original 5 members. This is something we really haven’t come across in any other Love Live series. Nearly all of the idol groups in Love Live banded together in the same year. Yes, Kanan, Mari, and Dia had a little more experience than the rest of the girls of Aqours, but it wasn’t even a thought of having just them perform in the competiton. Here, the second years have a whole year’s worth of experience and performing under their belt. The first years just started and are only in this like a couple of months. In the end, the group decided to perform as a group, the full group. As a result, they won first place and get to advance to the finals. Good for Liella! Good for Kanon! Now let’s all watch Liella revel in their victory. I mean, let’s watch the salty pink bitch throw a hissy fit now.

No, I’m not kidding. Margarete took the microphone out of the emcee’s hand and cried foul over Liella winning over her. IN FRONT OF EVERYONE!

The internet obviously thinks the same thing. This bitch and the audacity of it all! Kanon wanted to know why Margarete is the way she is. She wants to see if there’s something behind this sore loser act or if she’s just a bitch. Turns out Margarete and Kanon have a little more in common than one would think. As you might recall, Kanon had a rough time when it came to singing in front of crowds even though she wanted to sing. And as a result, she would fail each audition, including the one to get into the music program at her high school. With Margarete, her dream was to follow in her elder sister’s footsteps and enter this music school in Vienna, Austria. But it seems that she was given an opportunity to maybe enter if she were to go to school in Japan, learn about school idols, and compete in Love Live. I believe the terms were for Margarete to win Love Live and then she’d be accepted to that school. Not only did she lose, that school in Vienna is interested in Kanon and wants her to go for her third year of high school. I think this might be Margarete’s chance to get in (again) because this school really wants Kanon.

Kanon of course declined the offer. But that isn’t the end of that subject. Chisato brings it up again and tells Kanon she should go to Vienna. Actually, all of the girls of Liella want Kanon to go. This kind of opportunity only comes once and she shouldn’t waste it. So, after enough arm-twisting, Kanon decided to go. And now for the finals of Love Live!

Liella won!

On Kanon’s way home to get ready for her trip, Margarete stops by (wearing a Yuigaoka uniform) and says the exchange has been cancelled. And that’s how season two ends! Gee, I hope there’s a movie that can clear things up for us.

A THIRD SEASON?! FOR REAL?! But Love Live’s never get a third season. The sequence goes first season, second season, movie, done! I guess we will live to see a third season here. I want some explanations of seeing Margarete in the Yuigaoka uniform. Is she going to the school now or what? And if so, does that mean she’s going to be member #10 for Liella?

I don’t like how they ended this episode. Everything up to this point has been really exciting to watch. This Love Live is inching closer to being my favorite of the Love Lives. I’m still partial to Love Live Sunshine if you want to know the truth. But the season finale giving us a major cliff-hanger was not a good look. I know it’s more of a, you want more, stay tuned! At this point, the third season is announced and they’re in the middle of auditioning for new members. That means this third season might take a while before it’s fully finished. I’m guessing 2024. I know Margarete will be in the third season. But I’m wondering if Kanon’s younger sister is going to enter Yuigaoka and become an idol like her sister. I know we already have Ruby and Dia from Love Live Sunshine, but I don’t know, I kinda like that idea. But we’ll see what happens when it happens.

Love Live Superstar has been a fun ride and if you were a big fan of any of the Love Live series, I recommend you check this one out. Yes, the story is formulaic, but season two does give us a lot of interesting twists and things we haven’t seen in this franchise yet. I applaud this series on some of the risk-taking they took. Not that cliff-hanger though, they did no one any favors by doing that. But if you want to check out this Love Live series, Crunchyroll has every episode available. And while you’re there, check out Love Live Sunshine and Love Live Nijigasaki. Still no word if they’ll gain the original Love Live series back.

R Miette: A Flowergirl Forever

Out of all the outfits Miette had been forced to wear over the years, this one was definitely one of the better ones. Sure, some of the colors clashed a little, but it was cutesy without being overly childish. And it was purple. If only Eliza was in charge of coordinating outfits for her. Perhaps it was the desire to keep the dress pristine that made Miette use the makeup sponge Vil had handed her to dab away her tears, even though she knew she looked like an idiot.

“You don’t have to fix my makeup,” Miette said for what felt like the fortieth time that day.

“You made an attempt. You failed. It’s my job to show you how to properly do it.” Vil replied. Grabbing a chair with his free hand, he sat beside her and placed the huge, rhinestone-studded box on his vanity. “For once, I’m glad a brand sent me every shade of their foundation. You need better makeup.”

“I have good makeup, I just -”

“You just save it for your job, I know. But you need to use it up before it expires.”

“I… I guess.” She looked away from him, glancing at all the foundation bottles in the box.

“... What, no quip that if it costs over five hundred madol, it doesn’t expire?”

Miette just sniffled. Vil sighed and grabbed a packet of makeup wipes.

“Take it off.” She took the wipes and started wiping off the long trails of inky black eyeliner that went down her cheeks. “You must be feeling really bad if you’re not fighting with me.”

“I’m sorry,” she replied instinctively.

“Ugh, stop apologizing. You know I hate it when you apologize for things that aren’t your fault.” He grabbed a bottle and brush and started smearing different shades onto her face. There was a slight pause. “When you shade match for real, where do you test to get the best match?”

“Your chest.”

“Good. You remembered.” A pause. “At least your dress looks good.”

“Eliza’s good at picking outfits.”

“‘Eliza?’ You’re on first-name terms? Okay, this should work,” he muttered to himself. He grabbed a makeup remover wipe and started taking off what he’d put on her. 

“Why? Is that a bad thing?” she demanded, eyes narrowing.

“Calm down, Miette. It was just a question.” His own eyes narrowed. He shoved the foundation and the brush into her hands. “Do you remember what I told you about putting foundation on?”

“You need to buff it in with little circles.”

“Good girl.” Miette turned to the huge mirror and started putting foundation on the brush. Vil clicked his tongue and plopped another glass bottle and a sponge in front of her.

“Primer.”

“Right…” Primer’s a scam, she thought, but nonetheless went with it. 

“So why were you crying? Don’t you usually relegate your breakdowns to your dorm room? What made you so upset that you broke down in a classroom?” Oh Vil. As if he couldn’t get more blunt. Miette slumped and Vil’s eyes bore holes into her. 

“I don’t want anything to do with this. I just want to go back to my dorm room. I don’t want to be a flower girl.” She put down the sponge and grabbed the foundation brush. “I’m too old to be a flower girl. I’m sixteen, not six.”

“But you look adorable in your dress,” he said.

“I don’t care about wearing cute clothes. I don’t want anything to do with weddings.” Vil stood up and started rifling through the huge pile of PR boxes next to his vanity.

“Keep talking,” he said.

“I know Eliza’s not really going to marry Idia and I just feel bad for her. I’m ready to contour.” Vil leaned over, placing a palette in front of her that still had the plastic wrapping on it.

“You can keep this. It’s too dark for me. Why do you feel bad for her? It’s not okay that she came in here and just decided to marry Idia and kidnapped him.”

“Oh no, that’s super bad. I just…” This was getting somewhere sensitive. She fell silent, tearing the packaging open on the contour palette and getting to work. Vil, arms full of more products, sat back down beside her and started putting them all on the vanity. 

“Just tell me what’s wrong, Miette. I can’t help you if I don’t know why you’re upset,” he told her. 

“It’s hard to talk about…” She started blending her contour, the sponge bouncing against her skin aggressively.

“You’re doing it too hard.” The sponge was snatched out of her hands. He grabbed her shoulders and turned her to face him. He was much more gentle on her face. Vil didn’t look angry, but she could see the traces of exasperation on his face.

“I know I’m going to end up like Eliza, spending my afterlife looking for a partner instead of resting or being reincarnated,” she admitted.

“What?! Why on earth would you think that?”

“I’m never going to be able to get married while I’m alive. My job won’t allow it and even if I found love after I quit, it’s once an idol, always an idol. I can’t subject my partner to the limelight and I don’t want to face the backlash.” Vil remained silent. He put the contour palette down and grabbed what looked like a vintage frosted glass bowl full of blush in the shape of rose petals.

“I know how you feel -”

“No, you don’t -”

“Let me finish. I understand how you feel. You have such a following that any partner you have would be under immediate scrutiny and they’d have to adjust to a very different lifestyle under the public eye. I also worry about that.”

“It’s not the same. You’re an influencer. You’re in charge of your image. You’re marketing yourself as perfection. I’m not in charge of my image. My company markets me as a potential girlfriend. Everyone feels like they own me because my company forces me to keep up that fantasy. If I ever got a partner, it would be a nightmare. Fanboys are terrifying,” she said. Again, Vil was silent, poker-faced while he put on Miette’s makeup. 

“I suppose you’re right, it’s different contexts. But our respective partners would still be under the same scrutiny. Close your eyes.” She obeyed and a moment later, something wet was going on her eyelids. “I don’t understand why you’re insisting that I don’t get you or that I can’t help you. Haven’t I helped you before? Ever since you got here, you’ve been acting like a lone wolf.” His words stung. 

“I thought you helped me at that photoshoot because you were worried I was going to delay it, not that you cared about me or my feelings,” she admitted.

“Are you kidding me?!” he spat at her. “If I didn’t care about your feelings, I would’ve let you had a breakdown on set. If I didn’t care about you, I would’ve let that designer put you in that skimpy bikini. You were uncomfortable and you’re underaged, of course I threw a fit and made them give you something else to wear.” He scoffed. “I can’t believe you thought me risking my reputation was for my own sake. That makes no sense.” 

“I’ve only worked with you a handful of times, Vil. How was I supposed to know?”

“Uh, because it was obvious. I have no idea what I’m supposed to do with you.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Stop apologizing.” A pause, and then he squeezed her shoulder. “I wouldn’t call us friends either, but I care about you.” Miette swallowed hard, that awful aching feeling that came with tears creeping up her throat. “Do you like natural or unnatural highlighters?”

“Natural,” she croaked out. There was a pause and then a moment later, a brush was gliding across her cheeks.

“I really don’t think you should let some disgusting middle-aged men dictate your life. If you want to get married, you should. Let those idiots burn hundreds of thousands of madol worth of merchandise that they already spent the money on and you got royalties on.” He had a point, but even if she could handle it, would it still be okay to subject her partner to harsh scrutiny? Not to mention no matter her age, marriage most likely meant a death sentence for her career.

And yet…

Vil didn’t have to take her back to his dorm room. He didn’t have to fix her makeup. He didn’t have to try and talk things through with her. But he did. He was trying to make her feel better, to take care of her. 

“Thank you, Vil,” she said quietly. She opened her eyes just a smidge. The smallest smile graced his lips.

“I’m done with your eyes, you can open them. I just need to set it.” He shook a canister hard and sprayed it all over her face. “And you’re welcome.” He stood up and Miette followed suit after shoving her gifts into the large pockets of her flower girl dress. Maybe some day she and Vil would be like this again, but she’d be in a bridal gown. His arm rested over her shoulders as they walked to his door. If she knew him better, she would’ve hugged him. “I’m not going to fix your makeup again, so you’re on your own next time.”

“I know.” He squeezed her shoulder.

“Now go show the world how well I did your makeup.” She laughed and leaned into him slightly. 

“Okay, can do.” Sure, they weren’t friends, but perhaps this was just the first step of friendship.

otoya + idol sister hcs

featuring all my idol daughters!!! which is like, 4 main ones currently but five or six if i include nozomi who i’ve lost interest in and yoshiko, who i’ve gained interest in.

Otoya + All the girls

he loves having so many vibrant and awesome little sisters!!! they love to hang out together and play

Otoya, Rin, and Ai are usually the ones down to play sports together!! 

Mari and Hanamaru are the ones he has a little difficulty connecting interests with, but they all still manage to get along and have fun together!

he’s also a little scared of them 

because they work so hard to achieve their goals

and because they’re only school idols and have to do a lot of work more work themselves rather than thru an agency like he does

he is often in awe of them and he supports them and loves every single one of his sisters!!!

they all like to help out at the orphanage from time to time!!!

him and ai are the best at handling the little kids! ai is like a big sister and the most down to earth one of the genki girls trio

mari is a little too..... encouraging of the kids’ outlandish ideas and also sometimes likes to scare them with silly-weird stories! to which all the kids go running crying to their oniichan and otoya has to tell her to not scare them! they’re just little kids!

rin would color/craft with the kids and while she can be mature for the little kids she would also often get caught up in their excitement/energy and basically be the one who would be yelling mcdonalds! mcdonalds! with the kids 

hanamaru would be the quietest one there, helping the kids read from time to time or quietly cutting crafting paper and talking to all the little shy ones who she happens to notice staring at her. 

when they quietly ask her if they could become an idol like her and their oniichan, she tells them, “I used to believe that I couldn’t become an idol, too. But then I met great friends, and they believed in me, and pushed me. If you work hard, and find yourself surrounded by people who believe in you, then you can become an idol too!”

sometimes they like to practice their routines together, so they can all get feedback from people with very different points of view, since they’re all from different groups and backgrounds. 

otoya tries to give them a few pointers from what the academy taught him, but he’s mostly just like “wow!! you are so amazing!!” or something. Most Supportive Big Brother award when?????

he does provide constructive feedback though! it’s usually just after his usual surprise at how awesome his little sisters are already!

he’s best at providing feedback for dance movement since he loves to move around. 

if a fight starts to break out among the girls somehow, he tries to step in and ask everyone to take a deep breath

the girls enjoy listening to otoya’s music! They find it very refreshing and it’s nice getting to listen to him sing and play on his guitar!

Otoya + Rin

omg sports siblings

basically anything he does with syo would also include rin

they love to play any sport together obviously but soccer is their fave!

he’s really sad to hear that she thinks she can’t wear any cute, girly clothes 

[and is also understandably confused when he points out that she has no problems wearing the cute idol clothes her and her friends make?]

but he does his best to cheer her up and make her believe that she can!! He just... tells her that she’s the cutest little sister he could ever ask for and for her to please believe in herself!!! because he doesn’t know what else to say or do to show his support

of course rin is just flustered and storms off upset because she feels like no one is understanding the problem she’s having! and basically everything else follows like it does in s2e5 of love live

they love to go for runs! especially at parks!

if they pass by pet shops they will both wanna go in but they can’t stay long because rin is allergic to cats, nya :(

rin makes them cat earbands and he happily wears them with her because if that’s what will make her happy, then so be it!

oh my god. the chaotic energy. 

mari is probably the one he feels most awkward with

i mean, for starters, she’s hella rich and has some detachment from reality that the rich boys in starish don’t seem to experience

she probably also has a lot of fun teasing him

you know the >;3 face? she makes that face. all the time. any and every time s/o’s name comes up

she also probably ‘helps’ push them along by buying him two tickets to something ridiculously elaborate or expensive. because she can. she can do what she wants with her inheritance from the Ohara family

he is just a poor boy who grew up in an orphanage and hasn’t forgotten his roots mostly. he does not understand the freedom she has in spending money. he’s amazed when she arrives in a jet the first time they meet

Otoya probably feels bad for Mari when she manages to finally open up to him about her problems with her friends with the original Aqours and why they split. he probably tells her something like “that’s a toughie” and to be more honest with her feelings and maybe if she explained everything, they can all go back to being friends again!

and i forget what happened in s2 or whatever that got mari worried again bc sunshine was just that bad but i digress

When Mari makes her Stewshine, he is very intimidated by her and suddenly feels like he’s going to experience Natsuki’s cooking again

(it, fortunately, seems to taste better than Natsuki’s cooking)

Otoya + Hanamaru

this sister is so quiet, so sweet!

otoya usually does most of the talking, but hanamaru doesn’t mind! it’s nice to listen to him be so excited about stuff, and it reminds her of her best friends a bit, too!

if he doesn’t know what a word means or has trouble understanding some difficult text, and tokiya isn’t answering, he’ll go and ask her for help! 

he feels a little bad about it bc he’s supposed to be the one that’s helping her, but she doesn’t mind and never makes him feel bad for it!

he cheers for her the most when it’s workout time! he helps her learn to do some breathing exercises to help build her stamina or something

i honestly don’t have much for him and hanamaru bc she’s the only one that isn’t an energetic child, but they are still very sweet to each other!

he tries to help her sometimes when she’s working the library but he’s too loud and impatient and distractable to help with some of the busywork. maybe he can help reshelve books.

Otoya + Ai Miyashita

He is scared of Ai the most!

i’m not sure how to phrase it or point out specifically why, but maybe because she’s just as excitable as he is!

she’s very energetic, so both of them can go on talking forever and ever about things!

she’s a lot more fashion-conscience than he is, so he’ll sometimes ask her for her opinion on stuff

he also probably would ask her to help with rin’s character arc re her feminity, but love live canon would not make it so. except maybe in that all stars app but i don’t have enough room to run it between llsif and shining live......

while they don’t have many interests in common, ai is still good at school and athletics, so she probably joins him and rin from time to time for a game of soccer! or something. 

i’m p sure ai mikaze vs ai miyashita comes up in a conversation at some point early in. like

like how she’s really loose with her language and informal and energetic and stuff, while he’s very quiet and formal and cautious and calm. the stark contrast between the two ais!

also ai probably makes a pun about it? can you make a pun about it? I wouldn’t know I’m not a japanese speaker.

a lot of them fall short of their mark with otoya? maybe?

like, he probably is just like “Eh?” when she busts out into laughter at her own bad puns.

despite them not having many similar interest outside of idol work, they both get along very well! they both have very ‘easy’ and relaxed personalities, despite their big energy! 

they both are very big helpers!!! so ai would be the one that he would ask for help from the most when it comes to the preschool orphanage 

ai helps out there the most of all of the girls, because she really loves helping!

he probably helps her brainstorm her call sign! because they’re both very friendly individuals, he probably helped her come up with the high five part of her call by accident when they high-five’d sometime!

This is all under a readmore because it might get a bit long & I don’t want to put a wall of text on peoples dashes. but this is something I want to bring to attention specially now that i’m starting to get back into full motivation for rendering (posting a set later this week or more tbh), UNRELATED TO WHAT’S UNDER THE CUT! here’s another poll http://www.strawpoll.me/17763058 It’s on if you guys would like for me to do another Live-stream after April!

Just going to say this now, If I catch or hear of anyone who is reposting my renders especially if you have a tumblr. I will start using the block feature on here.  Renders on this blog, specially from the old Photo on Stage mobile app are NOT datamined. They are NOT ripped from the game. Specially in the beginning of this blog, I would spend almost an entire day or longer working on these renders. Over time I did get a bit faster at editing screenshots from the game into renders/transparents but it still takes a good chunk of my day. I know some people believe they are datamined due to LLSIF renders being datamined but saddly no one ever figured out how to datamine Aikatsu Photo on Stage so every since render on here was done by hand from a screenshot.

These honestly should be treated with as much respect as ANY OTHER kind of graphic edit. These aren’t any different from GIF images or fancy graphics people spend hours or days working on. 

So it’s honestly a huge disrespect & punch to the gut when people re-post the renders I spend so much time working on and try to take credit for it. 

This blog was meant to be a resource in a way for people to be able to access transparents/renders for Photokatsu and later on transparents/renders for the Aikatsu as a whole and even later on Precure. It’s supposed to be a place you can go to, to find transparent renders to use on your blog background, in your desktop/mobile wallpaper edits, character attribution graphic sets, icons, twitter or youtube headers, twitch stream layouts, ect. 

So please, the reblog button is there for a reason, use that instead of saving the render & making a whole new post on your own blog. just reblog the set from mine. 

And note, i will message people and ask them first to remove the re-posts. But I will only give people one chance, and if the posts arnt removed or it’s done again by the same person then I will both report the post & block the account from this blog. 

Rendering isn’t easy, it’s even harder when you’re trying to make the images look as high quality as possible  & like they originally were transparent. I always try to make my renders on here the exact quality that I would want in my own graphic edits which is as HD as possible and honestly that’s not easy half the time. Even more so because I don’t own a tablet, everything I do I do with a computer mouse. All of it.

How to Handle a Nico: Elementary, My Dear Maki-chan

Author’s Note: The first scene, of what will likely be several, inspired by the detective theme of the 36th Score Match in LLSIF, featuring NicoMaki.

Maki gave herself another glance in the changing room mirror. The earthy and brown tones were not as cutesy as most of the other outfits she had worn today, but instead gave off a more formal feel. The stripes on the waistcoat and notch lapels of her jacket looked sharp, or… what was the word Nico had used for the other outfit? Dashing? Also, the darker colors made the red ribbon stand out that much more. The same held true for her hair with the brown hat, which she now donned.

She smiled at her reflection and the full effect of the complete costume. It was supposed to be a detective theme and it was definitely working. Maki felt like she should be running around Victorian London, chasing criminals and seeking clues to solve a mystery. Kotori and the photography company did good work, as always.

Still smiling, Maki left the dressing room and turned down the hallway. She immediately stopped when she noticed someone leaning against the wall.

“Nico-chan?” The first-year inquired.

“Tut tut.” The third-year shook her head. “That’s Nicolock to you.”

“What was that?”

Nico produced what looked like an old-fashioned pipe. “Nicolock Holmes.” She said before putting the end in her mouth. She then blew into the pipe, which released a barrage of bubbles into the air. “No. 1 Detective in the Universe.”

“Sherlock?”

“Nicolock.” The older girl corrected again. “And you must be Makey Watsikino.”

“Watsi… wha?”

“Watsikino.”

“I don’t get it…”

Nico giggled before blowing more bubbles.

Maki shook her head before inspecting the other girl’s costume. The pipe certainly fit with what she knew of Doyle’s character, as did the ulster coat and deerstalker hat. The pink ribbon securing the flaps added a distinctly Nico-nii-esque flare… geez, did she really think of it that way? Anyway, the braids, while having nothing to do with Sherlock or detectives or whatever… Maki couldn’t deny that they were quite cute. Then there was the ego; Nico definitely shared the famed detective’s ego. However, there was one thing that seemed lacking…

“So… why are you Holmes and I’m Watson?” Maki asked.

“<Elementary, my dear Maki-chan.>” Nico stated in English, with her best attempt at a British accent.

Well, that certainly sounded like something Sherlock might say… Still…

“Is it?”

“Of course! Nico is the No. 1 Idol in the Universe, so it only makes sense that she would play the part of the No. 1 Detective in the Universe.”

“Hrm…”

“Hey…” Nico’s eyes narrowed. “Is Maki trying to imply that Nico isn’t smart enough to be Sherlock?”

“Wha?” Maki balked. “No!”

In truth, Maki had actually been wondering about Nico’s deductive reasoning skills, not her intelligence… wait… that kind of had a bit to do with intelligence. But also observation! Nico was capable of being quite perceptive, when she needed to be. And in that light, the same held true for intelligence. She wasn’t an idiot, even if she often acted like one.

“Uhm…” Maki found herself unable to give voice to her thoughts in the face of Nico’s scrutiny.

“Nico would make a fine detective.” Nico declared after a moment. “I’ll prove it! Feed me and I’ll grow, but water me and I’ll die. What am I?”

Maki racked her brain for a moment. She knew she had read the answer to that at some point. So why couldn’t she think of it now?

“When you need me, you throw me away.” Nico continued. “But when you’re done with me, you bring me back. What am I?”

“Wait, you didn’t give me time to answer the first one!”

“There’s a one-story house where everything inside is pink: …”

“Nico-chan owns a house?”

Nico pursed her lips. “Pink walls, pink doors, pink floors, pink ceilings, pink windows, pink curtains, pink chairs and pink tables. What color are the stairs?”

“Those are just riddles, Nico-chan.” Maki said before the other girl started another one. “You just read them in a book somewhere.”

“Isn’t reading how Maki-chan gets a lot of her intelligence?”

“I… uhm…” Maki found she couldn’t refute that.

“And detective stories often have riddles in them.”

“… I suppose.”

“And isn’t there a villain that is always spouting off riddles and such?”

“… Not in Sir Author Conan Doyle’s work… I think?”

“Well, one of them had to have had at least one riddle.”

“I remember a code made with men holding flags or something. Maybe that counts?”

“Ah, Holmes and Watson!” A voice came from behind Maki. “I love it.”

“Hey, Nozomi.” Nico greeted.

Maki turned to see Nozomi and Kotori dressed in military themed outfits similar to the one Maki had worn a little while ago.

“Good choices, Kotori-chan.” The purple-haired girl continued.

“I had a lot of fun researching ideas for this set.” The ash-haired girl replied.

“Maki-chan wants to know why the adorable Nico-nii is the playing the part of the illustrious Sherlock.” The raven-haired girl said. “She doesn’t think Nico is smart enough.”

“That’s not it!” The redhead protested.

Nico stuck out her tongue.

“Actually, I decided to have Maki-chan be Watson first.” Kotori explained. “Because Watson was a doctor.”

“Ah, that makes sense.” Nico nodded. “Maki-chan is going to be the No. 1 Doctor in the Universe after all.”

Maki raised an eyebrow but wasn’t sure what to say in response.

“So Nico is Sherlock because…” Nico prodded.

“Because Watson is often the straight man to Holmes’ eccentricities?” Nozomi suggested.

“Well…” Kotori fidgeted with a part of her costume. “I stumbled across some fics during my research…”

“Fics?” Nico questioned.

Nozomi snickered. “Seems like Kotori-chan thought if Watson was with Holmes, then Maki-chan should be with Nicocchi.”

“Of cour…” Nico cut off. “Wait, just what kind of fics were you reading Kotori?”

“Oh, that’s the photographer calling.” Kotori looked past the other girls before scurrying off.

“I don’t get it.” Maki spoke up. “Does she think Nico-chan and I would be good at solving crimes together or something?”

Nozomi laughed. “No, Maki-chan, she…”

Nico growled in warning.

“Anyway,” Nozomi shifted gears “Nicocchi’s voice also sounds kind of like one of the girls from that detective anime that came out a few years ago…” She paused in thought for a moment. “But wasn’t that character based off a different detective…? Nero…?”

“Nero Wolfe?” Maki suggested.

“Yes, that one.”

“No, that won’t do.” Nico shook her head. “If Maki-chan is Watson, then Nico is Sherlock. That much is obv… <It’s elementary.>” She corrected by repeating her earlier phrase.

“Well…” Nozomi smiled. “I suppose there are a few mysteries when it comes to you two.”

“There’s no mystery!” Nico suddenly grinned. “Maki-chan is the best partner for Nico-nii!” She turned and glomped onto her junior.

“Buweeh?!” Maki uttered.

“It’s a brilliant solution!”

Nozomi laughed before turning as though hearing something. “Oh, that really was the photographer…” She said before wandering off to join Kotori.

“And we have our own shoot to make.” Nico said, letting go of the younger girl. “<Come, Maki-chan, the game is afoot!>”

“A-alright…” Maki replied.

As her senior took her hand and began to lead her down the hall, Maki found herself thinking. Who was right, Nico or Nozomi? Was there a mystery or a brilliant solution? Certainly, there were many things that Maki thought about when it came to her time and interactions with Nico. But… what was that line Doyle had Sherlock use? Something about impossible and truth and improbable…

When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. That was the one. And the truth was that Maki enjoyed her time with Nico, despite, or perhaps sometimes because of their silly spats. Despite, and again perhaps sometimes because of Nico’s bratty behavior. The Maki of just a few months ago might have thought such a situation was impossible, and even now, Maki often considered it improbable. But truth it was all the same.

Maki felt the pang of something that was slowly becoming familiar as Nico let go of her hand when the two reached the set. However, it was quickly replaced with a different, warmer sensation as she watched Nico cheerfully greet the photographer and assistant. Nico was in her element and Maki couldn’t help being fascinated by watching her.

A smile came to Maki’s lips in response to the broad one being displayed by the older girl. When Nico’s smile was genuine, as it was now, it was contagious. She wasn’t forcing her smile through her idol persona. Well, she had just done her Nico-nii thing, but that was practically a ubiquitous gesture for pretty much every situation. But it was obvious Nico was honestly thrilled to be in the photoshoot. And maybe, perhaps, she was actually happy to be paired with Maki for this part, and not just faking it to get a reaction.

Maki watched as Nico enthusiastically obeyed the instructions from the photographer for a specific pose. She then suggested her own, which was accepted and shot. This was one of the sides of Nico that Maki admired. The Nico who put forth an honest effort to be the idol she dreamed of being. The Nico with no fear or embarrassment in front of the camera. The Nico who cute just by being herself.

Maybe… just as Watson found something he admired and respected in Holmes, so too had Maki found something in Nico. Just as Watson put up with the eccentricities of Holmes, so too did Maki deal with Nico’s. Just as Watson followed Holmes on his adventures, so too did Maki often follow Nico. And just as Watson was the best partner for Holmes… perhaps… just maybe… Maki really was the best partner for Nico?

Nico-chan’s partner… That… wasn’t a completely unappealing concept…

“Maki-chan!”

“Huh?” Maki blinked back to reality.

“Your turn!” Nico skipped over. “Hey, once you’ve taken a few, we should do a couple together!”

“I thought we were all basically separate for this set?”

“Well, yeah, for the magazine, sure.” Nico shrugged. “But we should take a few for fun as well! Watson and Holmes make a good pair and so do we! We definitely need to have a picture together!”

“Alright, alright.” Maki replied, moving in front of the green screen.

Maki smiled and posed as the photographer instructed. However, her smile grew when, after a dozen shots or so, Nico jumped in and grabbed her arm. At least for today, she knew she was happy to play Watson to Nico’s Holmes.

Author’s Note Continued: By the gods, I love these costumes. I can’t wait to add them to my teams, see their pop-ups, listen to their home screen quotes and read their side stories.

As mentioned above, I’d like to write another scene or two that includes these costumes or references them in some way. And thanks to a convo with myonmukyuu concerning an adorable piece she posted recently, I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do with the next scene.

Also, at least for now, I am presenting both Nico and Maki as not being incredibly familiar with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s works. Maki may have read a mystery or two of his for a class and either may have seen a Sherlock movie. They know some quotes and general themes, but I don’t currently headcanon either as being mystery buffs.

This headcanon may change should I come across anime-canon-compliant material that says one or both does like Sherlock and/or mysteries. Maybe such a detail will be revealed in the side stories for these cards. If anyone playing the JP version is willing to fill me in early, before these cards hit WW, I’d be quite grateful. And in the light of such information, I may decided to come back and retcon a few things in this scene.

In the meantime, I’m probably going to keep putting off the scene for their new UR pair so I can write another scene for this set.

Edit: I’m not entirely sure where exactly I want this in the timeline. Thus, for now I’m just putting it after Pool Cleaning, such that it might be a continuation of that photohshoot. Not the same day, but maybe that particular photoshoot could end up being a multi-day event? That could open the door to some other ideas and scenes I could add later.

ok so i’m home from the con, and while i don’t have any actual pictures of myself yet, i CAN post my con haul

Emergency!!! Please read!!!

Hello everybody. I haven’t been very active on here recently (other than my queue posting for me) the reason being that I’m currently in a really bad situation. I don't usually post about my personal life on here due to me being a private person, but I’m unfortunately in a tough place in my life and idk what else to do, but ask for some help.

To sum up my situation I am currently sleeping on a friends couch because I can’t return home. My father has decided to come back into my mother’s life and is now living back at my house. My father is an alcoholic low life with no job and I’m assuming will just be lounging around my house with a free ride to stay.

My father was abusive to me all throughout my childhood both mentally and physically and I cannot live with this man and potentially put my life and mental health at risk to stay at my house. I have a part-time job and can’t do full time due to me being in college. All of the money that I’m currently making is going towards helping my friend out with food and the bills until I find a more permanent place for myself.

Because all of my money (which isn’t very much) is going towards food and bills I cant pay for my medication. I have BPD and have a long history of self-harming and I need my medication or else I won’t be able to function properly therefore not attending school or my job. 

I feel very embarrassed and ashamed to be sharing this information, but I truly have no other choice. I’m not the type of person who would ask for help or money without giving something in return but unfortunately, I’m not an artist or anything like that so instead, I’m going to be selling some of my stuff. All I have to offer is LLSIF accounts, but that’s all I have considering most of my physical belongings are still at my house.

It’s been 4 months two days ago and my nephew is finally getting home from the hospital tomorrow!! Which also means I’ll get to see and hold him for the first time *-* He’ll still have to keep an oxygen tank at home just in case he has trouble breathing, but he’ll be home. After 4 months????????? It just feels so strange. I should buy him a present...

I pretty much disappeared from here and I’m sorry, not that anybody cares ^^; 

I’ve started my meds and finally talked to my parents about my depression after I failed my exam for the third time in a row due to a panic attack. I’ve also finally managed to choose the therapist I’ll work with and she seems really nice even tho I’ve only gone once... other than that, meds don’t work every single day and my mentality and habits are still nowhere near good, which is to be expected I suppose, since I’m only starting. I really hope I’ll be able to work my way out of this, even tho I can’t see it yet. Having it confirmed somehow calmed me down, since one of my issues was not being sure it was depression or if I was even worth any doctor’s time. Actually giving it a name without feeling like I’m crying for attention lifts a huge weight. My mom was too much to handle at first because she went full “you’re just making up excuses, get up, help people and you’ll be happy and feel useful, go outside and walk, you’re just doing nothing but making me worry” which was exactly what I feared and hurt me quite a lot. I managed to have our GP explain to her how it all actually works, so now it’s a little better. Hope she won’t expect too much too soon tho... I myself don’t know if I’ll ever feel like I’m enough, but at least I know I’m trying even if just a tiny bit. As for this blog, I know I said I’d be back once my nephew got home... but as I am now, I don’t think I can handle it. I don’t have that much energy and I usually spend it all by working on this other anime website I’m in - sometimes even just watching anime is too much to me. I’m procrastinating buying manga, so go figure. I said I’d at least try to draw something in the meanwhile but truth is I haven’t touched my tablet since my last drawing cause just the thought of trying (and not liking it, since I never do) makes me want to bang my head against a wall and I honestly don’t need it. Hope you understand. 

On the bright side I got finally got a Hanamaru UR (xmas) and my dream SSR (animal Dia idolized) on llsif, so I guess at least that went well?

So uh... What do you guys think of this game?

I was really expecting to fall in love with SIFAS as soon as I got a phone that could run it better but... not really. The rhythm game is incredibly boring. But I know that’s probably because I can’t play anything past easy or I just fail. I also know it’s probably because I need more cards, but I feel like three URs should be getting me farther. I do have a buttload of stars that I have been saving since the very beginning, but I also really want to keep saving them to try for a new UR I really like. (Like Ruby or Rina...) I may compromise on the new Dia I heard is coming out soon though, since it looks like I may be able to get the past event Ruby UR by saving up coins in those “big live” events. 

But still. I may never be good at this game because I don’t like thinking about having to switch modes and do appeals and stuff while I’m playing. I want to either be able to really enjoy the rhythm game (like LLSIF) or be able to watch the girls without thinking much about the rhythm game (like PriPara). This is neither of those. And it freezes all the time too!! I don’t know if it’s just me, but loading screens just die and stop responding. 

It’s a shame because a lot of the game mechanics outside the rhythm game seem really nice. Well, maybe I’ll like it more when I eventually decide to scout for more girls. In the meantime, I’ve picked up LLSIF again for the first time in a while. If the idea was to make this game different enough from LLSIF so they could both coexist, then that’s nice. But with how ridiculously easy it is to tier in events nowadays, LLSIF’s days have to be numbered.

so this morning LINE announced EOS for Line Play, happening late April of next year. plenty of time to mourn the game and also hahaha my 11th anniversary with the game is in March. cool. love to know that a game i spent over a decade playing & enjoying is shutting down and i won't be able to save ANY of my jpgs </3

it was truly one of the great dress-up games and now that it's going to be gone, gaiaonline is the last bastion of hope for me lol in regards to not paying to play, which is the case with a lot of other social avatar dress-up games that are still running.

i guess i really will have to start using instagram again bc it's going to be the only way i have to keep in contact with a lot of the people i was friends with! for the better part of a decade!!! i don't know most of them well enough to trust with bsky/tumblr lol but insta would be okay...i just gotta get my loginfo and it'll be fine.

for now i'm working on finding a way to save avatars without taking 5000 screenshots/videos like i had to do when llsif shut down earlier this year (god. was it only this year??). i think the best workaround i've gotten so far is downloading LINE Camera and sending your avatars to it as stamps (which is done via settings > profile > send avatar to Camera). there's a limit to the number of avatars you can have as stamps, so i think if you send the maximum number, then take a blank photo and pose as many avatars as you can fit on that photo, save, delete the ones you used, and repeat until you've finished that set, then clear that set out in the stamp settings & repeat the whole process lol. that's what i'm going to do, anyways. it cuts down a lot on screenshots even if it's at the cost of being able to zoom in for details.

the problem is that i have a LOT of dress-up items and outfits that i want to save but man....that's gonna take so much time.

i AM going to have to take screenshots/videos for the room layouts because there's no stamp option for that. it's okay, i only have a few rooms i liked a lot and want to potentially get commissions of later on...

My Review of Love Live Nijigasaki School Idol Club

AAAAAAAAAAAAH!

I’M BACK IN IDOL HELL!

Another damn Love Live! Seriously? Another damn one!?

Actually, I knew this was going to happen from like almost two years ago. Back when I was an active player with the rhythm game app LLSIF, we’d get these special characters popping in every now and then, usually as SSR, SR, or N scouts. Then in 2019, they put out singles for each girl to play and I knew then and there that a new Love Live was already in the works and were going to feature these girls.

THIS STORY: First of all, the characters of this story are not becoming idols because the school is in danger of closing down. I know that was like a big thing in the original Love Live and in Sunshine, but that’s not the case this time. This school looks very well populated and well-established. So let’s just squash that trope.

Ayumu and Yuu got bit by the idol bug leaving school one day when they came across a solo performance out in the open. The girl performing is named Setsuna Yuki and she’s part of the Idol Club at Nijigasaki (the school Ayumu and Yuu attend). The next day, they learned from the student council that the club has been disbanded at the request of Setsuna. So what do Ayumu and Yuu do now? They’re going to try and revive it!

But what about the girl who started the idol club in the first place, Setsuna?! The reason for Setsuna disbanding the club was because she felt that she and the rest of the girls in the group were on a different wavelength. So she decided to disban the club, leaving the other girls, Emma, Kanata, Shizuku, and Kasumi to go their separate ways. But that wasn’t the only thing on Setsuna’s plate. Setsuna kinda lives a double life on campus. She’s Setsuna in the school idol club, but she’s also the student council president, Nana. So Ayumu, Yuu, and Setsuna end up reviving the idol club. Emma, Kasumi, Shizuku, and Kanata end up joining again. And eventually, we get other members Ai, Rina, and Karin to join in. And since there’s quite a long list of characters, let’s talk about them.

Ayumu is one of the first girls to revive the idol club. Unlike the main girls from the other series like Honoka and Chika, she’s not as crazy-energetic and idol-crazy. She’s more of the lover of cute things. She was sparked by idols when she saw Setsuna perform.

Speaking of cute things, Kasumi is the idol-loving crazy girl that loves all things cute and wants all of her performances to be cute.

Emma is the first Love Live character originally from a place that’s not Japan. This Swiss-miss came to Japan to become an idol.

Setsuna lives the double life. At school, she’s the disciplinarian student council president, Nana. But when she’s in idol form, she’s Setsuna Yuki ready to shine on stage.

Shizuku got interested in becoming an idol to help with her acting aspirations.

Rina got curious and ended up joining the idol club despite having problems showcasing her emotions. That’s why you see the computerized monitor on her face.

Ai joined alongside with Rina and with her Sporty Spice persona, she’ll get the club on their feet.

Karin is already well-established in the modeling world, but ended up getting into the idol world after hanging with Emma.

Kanata…likes to sleep. Oh, and she has a younger sister in an idol group at her school.

Then there’s Yuu! She isn’t the kind of idol member that sings and performs like the other girls, but works to support each girl in their goals.

Oh and all of these idols are SOLO ARTISTS!

BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: As usual with the Love Live franchise (and most other idol animes), these voice actors are brand-spankin’ new. These girls are usually only known for their work as actual idols and only a few of them really go on to do a full-length voice actor career. Then I get, SURPRISE! Akari Kitou is in this too! This girl was in EVERYTHING these past two years! Everything! Every-damn-thing! Now she’s a Love Live waifu! Actually, several of the seiyuus here I’ve seen in a few things here and there and that’s pretty rare since I’m not hip to all the idol groups in Japan.

Now for the dub, because we all know FUNimation! Yeah, they licensed this just like the previous Love Live series. However, they really kept this series all to themselves where not even Hulu could air it. At the moment, no dub has been announced or planned. I’m assuming it’ll happen one day. I only say this because of all the other Love Live series. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

*Shizuku is played by Kaori Maeda (known for Selka on SAO: Alicization)

*Karin is played by Miyu Kubota (known for Sister Lily on Black Clover)

NEW BEST GIRL: As you may know, I have picked my favorite girls from the Love Live fandom. Nozomi is best girl in the original and when it comes to Sunshine, Ruby is tops!

When I saw the new girls back when the app LLSIF released all the single songs for the Nijigasaki club, I was curious about one particular girl. I had a feeling Rina was going to be a special kind of interesting. Why was she wearing a special mask on stage? Is she an introvert who hates to be seen up-close? I had to learn more about her! Turns out Rina had a lot of trouble expressing her feelings. When she’s excited, sad, irritated, or satisfied, it’s just the same expression. I love Rina. She’s my precious cinnamon roll and if anyone talks smack about her is gonna get a bop in the face.

ABOUT YUU: I know what you’re thinking, what the hell is going on with Love Live giving us 10 girls  instead of 9? And I would agree! LLSIF game gave us 9 solo albums and Yuu is not among any of them. But then I recently downloaded LLSIF All Stars and discovered the interactive portion with all of the girls and how your character is the unspoken 10th member of the group. Yeah, Yuu is pretty much that character.

SHIPPING: In the original series, I was a bit of a multi-shipper that was open to any hookups if I can see it. When Sunshine came along, I was still a multi-shipper, but heavily Kanan x Mari to a point where I’m imagining their wedding. This time around…yeah, once again I found myself shipping the fuck out of third-years.

This is Karin x Emma. I support the fuck out of this. Never forget that!

And while I’m at it, let’s add Ai x Rina. Ai was literally Rina’s first friend. She will go anywhere for this girl and do anything for her.

I should probably add Ayumu x Yuu too. But then again, this is Love Live. No matter what ship we all choose, it’s all for naught as no one really confesses their feelings for each other. Right?

Hahaha…Foreshadowing!

THE SAME, BUT…: Yeah, you know how this goes. Since this is an idol anime and the third one from the same franchise, I’m gonna squawk about the similarities this series has with the first two Love Lives. Yes, we’ve got the cutesy, annoying idol with Kasumi. Yes, we have the token class president with Setsuna. Yes, the animation for all the dance scenes is wonky CGI. And yes, we have a center second year with a red-ish hue to her hair with Ayumu. But there’s just so many glaring differences compared to the other two series.

*First of all, the school is not in any danger of closing down. The original Love Live had Honoka and her friends starting a school idol club to drum up attention for their school so it wouldn’t have to shut down. Love Live Sunshine also had that with sadder outcomes for the school. This school is huge, has many different clubs and activities. This school is safe! But if they pull some shit out in season two saying it has to close down, I call bullshit.

*Nijigasaki High School Idol Club mostly has solos. One of the reasons for the falling out at the beginning between Setsuna, Kasumi, Emma, Kanata, and Shizuku was differences. Every girl has their own thing and they respect that. Even in the app, there are a lot of solo songs and only a few where two or more of the girls are singing together.

*Add to that, this group doesn’t really have a “group name”. I mean Nijigasaki School Idol Club doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue like μ's or Aqours.

*The big, scary student council president is a second year. Unlike Eli and Dia from the previous series, Setsuna (a second year student) is really the scary one with power. But much like Dia, she does have a passion for idols. It’s just that Setsuna goes above and beyond to hide that along with her true self. I bring this up because when the second season comes (AND IT WILL), I have a feeling they’ll introduce this one character that’s in the game and that’s going to be quite the game changer.

FAVORITE SONG: Chase by Setsuna.

I think all of us were blown away by that song in episode one.

ENDING: After Diver Fes and Karin’s solo performance, the girls decide to hold a training camp at their school. During the camp, Yuu was still awe-struck by everyone’s dedication to the club and the performances in the previous episode. And by the end of the camp, Yuu says there should be a school idol festival to show everyone that school idols are awesome. Much to my dismay, I doubt that this anime will follow the game route and have μ's and Aqours perform. Actually, the groups seen throughout the series are characters I would run across in one of the other Love Live apps, including Kanata’s little sister. Moving on!

Everything was going along swimmingly with this School Idol Festival. The student council (or Setsuna as her alter ego Nana) agreed to it, the students of Nijigasaki are excited for what’s to come, and other schools including Kanata’s sister Haruka’s school are willing to participate. However, the big friction that sparked came from Ayumu. As we all know, she and Yuu are close as can be. Ever since the resurrection of the School Idol Club, Yuu has been there to realize the dreams of everyone. Ayumu got jealous, especially seeing Yuu with Setsuna. So she corners her and wants Yuu all to herself and…

Whoa. Confirmed lesbianism!

Let’s just say Ayumu’s jealousy came and went as she realized she can’t stop Yuu’s dreams and that Ayumu’s gonna have plenty of devoted fans besides Yuu. So thankfully that was resolved quicker than I thought and now we can focus on the School Idol Festival. The festival was actually going really well. There were separate stages for all of the solo idols and there were sample songs from all the Nijigasaki girls heard throughout the finale, and only a few hiccups during the day. But nothing Rina couldn’t fix. So much for the rainstorm!

Oh come on guys, plenty of idols from this franchise and other shows performed in the rain and they all turned out just fi…

Oh, I forgot about Honoka.

Oof. Zombieland Saga did her wrong. Never mind what I said!

Unfortunately, the rain didn’t clear up until 7:05 (five minutes after the time allowed for this festival). But all of these idol fans waited and they wanted a show. And so, that’s what they got. Nijigasaki and all the other participating schools performed together. So the festival was a big hit. People who watched it sent a request for another festival to happen. So there’s definitely going to be another School Idol Festival in their future. But what about a season two?

Pfft. COME ON! You know there’s going to be a season two. The girls haven’t experienced heartache of the upperclassmen graduating. Shioriko hasn’t been introduced yet. Tokimeki Runners hasn’t been sung yet. An actual Love Live hasn’t happened yet. That is the whole point of this franchise, right? To have idols participate in the famous Love Live School Idol Festival? So yeah, I know no one has greenlit the Nijigasaki series or announced anything, but I know it’s gonna happen. I can smell it. Love Live will never die. Why else is there going to be a Love Live Superstar series coming out in July?

I gotta say I enjoyed this series. It’s nice to see the struggle of creative differences with the club members. I mean in the past two series, the girls would all agree to something or eventually get to a happy conclusion and sing together in perfect harmony. Cute, but not realistic! And these girls are all very different so it’s good to see a lot more solo performances. Both μ's and Aqours have members with solo songs. It’s just that if you’re an anime only person, you probably wouldn’t know that. Otherwise you would know that Riko and Maki are superior in the singing department.

Prove me otherwise!

Recommendations are always tricky in this area. Idol shows are either loved or hated by the anime community. And I unfortunately can only recommend this to idol show watchers. I’ve already stuck my neck out to recommend Zombieland Saga to everyone.

Yoosung got into Love Live! After browsing the web for a new game to play and anime to watch and became interested in the idols

His real obsessed began when he started watching the anime, Yoosung would memorize the songs and sing, laugh, and sometimes even cry while watching the Muse and Aquors girl’s journeys in becoming idols

Yoosung’s got caught multiple times playing LLSIF during his classes but he’s more annoyed rather than embarrassed because his professor messed up his combo streak

Best Muse Girl: Hanayo because he thinks her shyness is adorable plus Yoosung loves her somewhat higher singing voice is super cute and he admires Hanayo’s love of rice relates to his own love of cooking

Best Aquors Girl: You because of her positive outlook on things is something Yoosung wishes he had more of and finds You’s catchphrase to be the best plus he loves the different costumes that she wears thinking that she looks adorable in all of them

- Best Muse Subunit: Printemps because to Yoosung, Printemps is the perfect blend of cute, shy girls and since they all have softer voices, they create wonderful melody that he could listen to for forever

Best Aquors Subunit: Cyaron because Yoosung loves the mix of the girl’s more fun vibe when they sing plus again, he usually goes for the more shy but cute idols so this subunit is perfect for him

Zen heard about the Love Live! girls when one of his co-workers was playing Start:Dash during one of their rehearsals and he ended up really enjoying the song as he hummed the melody

After doing some research that night, Zen downloaded every single Muse’s and Aquor’s songs and had an all night jam session

After browsing through Zen’s fan club website, Jaehee saw someone comment about Love Live! and decided to check it out herself

Jaehee downloaded the game and fell deep into idol hell, playing it constantly even at work to get the highest score possible while ignoring unnecessary cat protects

And once Jaehee heard about the anime, she became even more attached to the Muse and Aquors girls, crying at both of the anime’s season finales

Best Muse Girl: Umi because she relates so much to being the team mom of the group, Jaehee also finds Umi’s strong-willed personality admirable and finds her small quirks like being easily embarrassed cute

Best Aquors Girl: Dia because she relates so much about being a die-hard fan of a musical group she loves, like Jaehee’s love for Zen, plus Dia’s prideful personality is something Jaehee wishes she had more of and respects the idol for possessing it

Best Muse Subunit: Lily White because Jaehee loves their mix of fun, upbeat songs and slow, more mature songs that they sing in a perfect harmony, plus her’s and Zen’s best girls are in the same subunit together so it’s always going to be her favorite

Jumin hears about Love Live! from some of his co-workers talking about the game and anime during their work break

He decided to listen to the two idol groups one night and was pleasantly surprised that he was enjoying the music, tapping his foot to the rhythm and smiling as Elizabeth meowed happily along

After watching the anime and becoming addicted to LLSIF, Jumin created a new branch in the company dedicated to the Love Live! girls and was happy to see sales rise plus he found something new to passionate about

Best Muse Girl: Eli because he immediately fell in love with her name and graceful appearance, Jumin likes how dedicated Eli is with helping her friends when needed plus he admires her determination to become the best idols possible

Best Aquors Girl: Riko because of her calm and humble personality towards others, Jumin agrees with her that dogs shouldn’t be kept as pets, He also likes her singing voice and becomes interested in manga after seeing Riko’s interest in them

Best Muse Subunit: Bibi because they got Jumin’s homegirl plus he likes listening to their more upbeat songs that help him after a long day at work, Jumin’s also noticed that Elizabeth becomes perkier after hearing them sing, especially Eli’s parts

Best Aquors Subunit: Guilty Kiss because Jumin enjoys the girl’s diverse singing voices and knows for a fact that to him, they have the best songs produced for their vocal types, he also orders Elizabeth some of their stage costumes to wear for herself

Seven

When Seven found out about Love Live! he instantly became obsessed with both the anime and the game

He finds it nice that he can take short breaks from work to play through a couple of songs when playing LLSIF and gets super excited when he gets a new high score or pulls an ultra rare card

Then when Seven heard that there was an anime, he watched both series within 48 hours and screamed ‘Nico Nico Ni!’ almost the entire time but got teary eyed during the finale of both series

Best Muse Girl: Rin because if Seven was a girl, he would literally be Rin, from her love of cats to her tomboyish attitude Seven admires how Rin overcame her insecurity about her somewhat boyish looks and to top it off, he’s in love with her singing voice

Best Aquors Girl: Hanamaru because he finds her lack of knowledge on technology hilarious and wishes she were real so he could teach her, Seven also likes how Hanamaru ends her sentences with “-zura” and starts doing it himself to be more like the school idol

Best Muse Subunit: Lily White because even though he likes all of the girl’s singing voices, he ended up choosing them to be his favorite because they have his best girl plus he likes the variety of songs they sing

Best Aquors Subunit: Azalea because not only to Seven do they have the best songs and costumes, but he’s obsessed with their dance choreography and finds all of the girl’s voices soothing and enjoyable

Saeran needed something to help him clear his mind that would also be fun to do as he therapist said so he looked online to find an anime and game called Love Live!

He didn’t really get the appeal at first but when he started playing LLSIF, he was absolutely hooked, rage-quitting and throwing his phone on the floor when he got a ‘Miss’ along with cheering to himself when he got a perfect combo

The anime also captured Saeran’s attention, he thoroughly enjoyed seeing both the Muse and Aquors girls growing into idols and they even helped him gain some confidence in himself

Best Muse Girl: Maki because he’s a tsundere himself and understands the stubborn girl’s attitude, Saeran likes how Maki doesn’t take any crap from anybody but can still become a flustered mess, much like himself and likes her singing voice the most

Best Aquors Girl: Yoshiko because he finds her whole fallen angel antic the best, Saeran always seems to either smile or laugh when Yoshiko is on the screen because of her silliness about being called Yohane but also because she has the best singing voice in his opinion

Best Muse Subunit: Bibi because Saeran enjoys their more upbeat music and likes he melody that the three girls create in the group, plus their costumes are on point in Saeran’s eyes

Best Aquors Subunit: Guilty Kiss because Saeran likes all of the girls in that group and their costumes to him are pretty plus their songs always seem to be able to put a smile on his face when he needs it the most

2. Your least favorite boy? i don’t dislike any of them?? oh wait I guess heavens counts nowadays huh. Eiichi. Not sorry. Miss me with him. I’ll take Nagi over him and I don’t even like Nagi either but at least he realizes his mistake sooner and tries to fix it instead of having to get shoved at and told that he’s a manipulative prick.

3. A character that you never thought you would love as much as you do now? hmmm... all of the 11? Maybe Reiji, but that’s like mostly attributed to @dekiaibadchoices​! I love seeing how happy he makes her. :D 

4. A character you can relate to in any way? goSH. I’m actually.. .not sure... I mean I do relate to otoya and how much he loves fun and brightening up people’s days, but i’m not nearly as... good at it? as on top of it?

5. A character that you think deserves more love? Is Natsuki or Syo popular by themselves or only in a pair? Because, individually, they both do. And Yamato and Van are a lot better in mlk, but i don’t know if there’s any material between s4 and mlk, because i would LOVE to see yamato’s character arc/progression from his “tch” to “AND YOU’RE AWESOME, AND YOU! AND YOU!” like he’s frickin’ oprah

6. A character you would want as your partner/lover? ehhhhhh none of them really? like maybe a few it’d be interesting but mostly i’m just like, nah. they’re fine on their own/with others.

7. A character you would want as your mentor/senpai? oh!! um. .... I don’t know. D: Maybe Natsuki? I feel like he would be very good about being nurturing and helping build confidence in people who feel unconfident or don’t like themselves...

god all of the movie songs were good but i think QN killed it with The World Is Mine because GOD THAT WAS SO AMAZING IN THE MOVIE, but then again, Fantasic Prelude brought in all the tears. Every time that slow build.... and I’m not a crier and laughed at all the other girls in the audience that did. BUT NOW I’M THE ONE THAT’S CRYING AND GETTING EMOTIONAL.

Your least favorite song? ugh... the first heaven’s song? esp when they were three but even after 7 it just. sounds bland. but i’m supposed to believe that it’s THIS EPIC THRILLING HIT??? like kids sit down and listen to QN’s two songs from the movies then come back and tell me what a thrilling epic song in your repertoire looks like.

i just don’t really like most of heavens and i’m also really mad that their two songs in the movie were so damnably catchy. fuck them.

NATSUKI. his [satsuki?] songs are so. heavy. oh my god. tokiya is a close second though because wow beautiful voice.

uhhhh van. him and eiji are the only ones that didn’t make me go ugh at upon their episode/interactions at any point in time, and eiji is sure, pure bean too good for this world in a way different than otoya but he’s just not the kind that appeals to me meanwhile van is a fun flirt---HEY GOME I FOUND YOU AN IDOL VERSION OF YOUR CURRENT FLAME. ha ha jk gome would never read this-- but also really sweet and fun. and then yamato i didn’t like at all but his movie? personality? upgrade?? Really fun. Love it. Would have loved him more from the start if they showed this evolution in the season.

I don’t really follow them tbh and I’ve only seen Otoya’s, Tokiya’s and Syo’s content, and it’s a tie between mamoru and shimono

I mean I wouldn’t mind the rest of otoya’s plushes but i’m also not gonna.... repeatedly check ebay for ‘em.  maybe for the full size bag of the little one that I got??

How did you get into Utapri? klab advertized shining live in llsif as a text notice or something? or maybe just on the en twitter??? anyways my friends and I looked, I was the only one who could get it to play on their phone, and i KNEW otoya would instantly become my fave bc he sounded so much like my best girl rin, and WOW. GUESS WHAT. I WAS RIGHT!!!! who knew.

29. A set theme in shining live that you want to see in the future? fuck i forgot it but there WAS a set that’s in llsif that’s not in sl that i was like “this would be so great to see one for the utapri boys”

30. Why do you love your best boy?

*cracks knuckles* OKAY EVERYONE GET READY I CAN ACTUALLY WORDS WHEN IT COMES TO MY KIDS OKAY

so. first off, rin is my best llsif girl and they run a LOT of similarities in character profile alone. they’re both happy people who have a lot of energy and smile a lot and are always beaming happiness and I just REALLY love the sunshine kid trope okay?

now, for otoya specifically, i LOVE that it’s totally canon that his smile is like sunlight on a cloudy day, that he’s just this. super sweet and earnest, endearing kid who will help people when he can, however he can, if they ask or don’t that doesn’t really matter, so long as he is allowed to help then he’s gonna do his best at helping!!! He works REALLY HARD!! he cares people. a lot. so much. big heart!!!! biggest heart in all of starish if i do say so myself. maybe in all of utapri boys. he’s just so. caring!!! and good!! I DARE you to find and tell me something bad about my son. I DARE YOU. it’ll be a waste of time because you WON’T find anything. 

and oh my gosh his reactions in the anime are a GOLDMINE, TREASURE TROVE of reaction images. i can have a whole ass platter of every emotion under the son and i hate that sometimes thanks eiichi. he’s just. so funny sometimes and it’s adorable and precious and he’s just so pure and good and sweet and kind and caring...!

he also!! back to the working hard thing!! He works hard bc he came from humble roots. I don’t know much about the VNs so all of my knowledge is from the anime and shining live, but like, orphan?? who works hard to learn how to write songs and play the guitar? and then still comes back to the orphanage he grew up at to volunteer and help there after he debuts??? like. i love this boy. he is so sweet and willing to give back and HE IS SO PRECIOUS?????? im. good kid. 

and!!! i hate bringing up this shithole writing of an episode. it can use SO MANY IMPROVEMENTS but so can all of s4 in geneneral hahahahahah BUT ANYWAYS!

he re-experiences trauma that he had amnesia of? no thanks to some certain megane asshole. and, through poorly structured writing, he learns to move on from his pain and learns how to smile again? Like. baby. sweetie. precious son. you did not deserve that, it was a horrible Break the Cutie moment that did NOT need to happen like that, and you deserved better resolution than what you got. 

but the point of it is! he learns how to smile again through his pain. that doesn’t quite make it sound right in the way that is inspiring, but like. he... has his own battle with depression and grief and pain and loss of innocence/childhood, and he still manages to retain a childish manner and happiness and spark, and smiles through that, and he smiles because he wants others to be happy and not suffer the same pain.
