Its interesting how a lot of the posts we make that are anti anakin, anti thrawn, anti sith, etc aren't really all that negative about the topic, more often than not our "anti" posts are just frank statements of the bad things the characters in question have done, is it really being anti if it's just the source material?
But that's just it
The stans for these various bad people are not stans for the actual characters, they are stans of their versions of the characters in their heads
Honestly? We really do coddle these stans by tagging posts as "anti (insert fascist here)"
By all accounts, we should not have to tag things as "anti-this" because like I said, we're just pointing out the things they canonically did, a post about thrawn/anakin/empire/sith/kylo/etc that is just discussing the stuff onscreen isn't really "anti" its just the source material
but the stans demand to be coddled
#wooloo-writes#wooloo writes#star wars#sw#honestly this goes beyond the sw fandom#but this was inspired by sw fan behavior#anakin skywalker#thrawn#anti anakin#anti thrawn#anti stans#your blorbos are fascists#anakin thrawn sith etc are all canonically bad people#pointing that out should not require anti tags#but it does#because the stans are in love with made up versions of the characters and demand everyone adhere to their idea#thrawn is a fascist#anakin is a fascist#etc etc

That's like very scary. Very.
Exactly.
Also, it is time for this person to accept the plain truth that Aegon II is indeed a certified rapist in Fire and Blood.
We have to stop the bullshit.
Aegon II is a villain ! Not a gray character ! Complaining that HOTD shows a dark side of him is ridiculous !
And yet he is really diminished by making him cry 24 hours a day, complaining about his father's lack of love, and making believe to the audience (with bitter failure) that he cared for his son by ultimately... making him cry. Well, this is definitely the son of the Alicent of HOTD...
Not to mention maintaining Maester Eustace's incoherent propaganda bullshit that Aegon II was forced to take the throne while his behavior after being put in power in F&B proves the opposite... (And this original Aegon II has no right to the excuse of having been galvanized by the people who chanted his name during his coronation, giving him a taste for this position like Aegon II of HOTD, since in truth in the book Fire and Blood the coronation of Aegon II it went badly with the people demanding for Rhaenyra...) đ
Also, in another post this person always tries to defend Aegon II harassing Aemond in 2x03 by saying that he is not trying to harass or make fun of him, just tease him because he is drunk !!! đ¤Ş
As if having drunk is a good excuse for the public behavior of Aegon II in relation to Aemond ? When he was harassing Aemond in episode 6, he hadn't been drinking as far as I know. Even when he basically says that Aemond knows his place in 2x01 ?
In any case, Aegon II stans will always find great excuses for him, each one more stupid than the other. All they care about is putting it in the right light !
It's deeply disgusts me.
We have another exemple with this so true post :
And this response which is basically a short version of what the person you sent me already said :
This scene has nothing to do with a big brother teasing his little brother. It's pure and simple public humiliation, especially when you combine it with the fact that Aegon II was the ringleader and the one who came up with the idea of ââAemond's harassment that Alicent validates as long as it's in private and the way in which Aegon II speaks of Aemond as knowing his place.
Luke took Aemond's eye out of pure impulse of fear and protection for his big brother Jace who was literally being threatened by Aemond who was holding a stone, saying that they were all going to die screaming like their father did. What did he have ? Between 7 and 9 years old ? According to my research, he died at 14 years old in episode 10. So normally, in episode 7, he was around either already 8 years old or almost, so probably seven and a half years old. He's just a kid who panicked and acted accordingly !
Especially since in the book, it's Aemond who starts the fight.
And he's not a victim of harassment either. In fact, he's the one who harasses the Velaryon boys.
There is no ânuanceâ like in this fucking stupid show.
Aemond in the book got himself into this shit and Lucerys simply defended himself in a situation that probably made him panic. He was 5 years old. Neither more nor less.
Like @nrilliree said : Joffrey was actually three years old in the book. Jace was six and Luke was five. Aemond was 10. Aemond slapped Joffrey of three years old, shouted at him, and pushed him into the dragon dung. Aemond broke Luke's nose and broke the wooden sword on Jace's head (so imagine the force he had to use). Luke was half his age, and the difference between a 10-year-old and a 5-year-old is huge. Luke only reacted when Aamond was pummeling Jace with his fists and he refused to stop. Aemond beat up a three-year-old, broke Luke's nose, broke the wooden sword on Jace's head, and then beat him up. A ten-year-old has a really big advantage in a clash with a 6- and 5-year-old. The loss of his eye in both canons is a consequence of his own actions.
But in any case, to come back on Aegon II subject ; Aegon II stans will always find great excuses for him, each one more stupid than the other. All they care about is putting it in the right light.
It disgusts me.
Aegon II in the show is an alcoholic rapist - who enjoys harassing his little brother Aemond - who finds his sister / wife Helaena to be an idiot - who enjoys watching children, including his own illegitimate children fight in arenas to survive them - as a result he is a shit father, but also legitimate for his children since before his son with Helaena became his heir he had never been interested in him to the point of not even knowing that he was taking lessons and knew even less where they took place, ultimately using his kid to humiliate Tyland Lannister, showing that Aegon II just likes bullying people...
In the book he is also a lazy alcoholic rapist and a pedophile on top of that (and by spending his time being lazy, drinking, and raping maids, and raping 11 / 12 year old girls, I'm supposed to think that he takes time for his children and would be a good father by the way ?) !
Aegon II is human waste that's all.

đśď¸, Grishaverse?
Despite claims to the contrary, Rule of Wolves did not assassinate the Darkling's character. He is completely consistent with how he was written in Shadow and Bone- a once bright young man turned noble demon, jaded so badly by the long eons of struggle and isolation that he can no longer see the world except through the lens of power and control. He cares nothing for anyone else's opinion, because that was the only way he could carve the future he wanted- if he shut himself off from the world- from pain, from loss, from doubt, from judgement, and in so doing he's made it impossible for him to truly be the one that saves the world, that remakes it.
The only reason people think he's been character assassinated in Rule of Wolves is because Bardugo writes him consistently with how he is in Shadow and Bone, rather then the version his stans would imagine him as as- edgy, misunderstood and only in need of love to 'fix' him. But at the core, the Grishaverse is not a series that believe love will fix you. Love is a choice, an act, and a promise in Bardugo's world- not a cure all, or hidden power, or a talisman. Zoya's story in Rule of Wolves, ironically, hammers this point dead home. What Zoya realizes at the novel's pivotal moment is that love is a labor- it requires you to be vulnerable, to work at it, to get up each day and decide to keep at it.
Love can't save the Darkling because he can not bring himself to choose love over power, because choosing love would mean having to honestly face himsel. He would have to open himself up to others, and to the idea that he was wrong in his actions. And so instead he cries that he has no regrets as he is impaled on the thorns, because he can't allow himself to have regrets. The boy who had regrets might have been one that found redemption, but he never would have survived the world of his youth. The man he is, ruthless and unyielding and unafraid, sees that neat simple line between point A (the world dying) and point B (the world not dying) and takes it without hesitation, even if it means an eternity of torment, refusing to be humbled or to repent, even as the universe demands he kneel.

@thebrookesnook Also I really liked the idea Cangse choice her name cuz its very on brand for her. Since the courtesy names are basically the expectations/wishes the parents want for their child in the future and Cangse is over here being like "i make my own destiny >:)" like the gremlin she is. What a queen, I stan âď¸đ.
Oh i like to think that Baoshan Sanren gave Both Xiao Xingchen & Cangse Sanren their courtesy names. I have headcanons about cssr just Coming to bssr with a blank-slate, no name to speak of. she responds to Liu as a name but it likely wasn't spelled Like That until after her orphaning & after she became a disciple on bssr's celestial mountain (like how lwj changed the spelling of Wen Yuan's given name but kept the pronunciation). She definitely gave herself her own surname, though & all i can imagine on that front is a monkey-child running amok on bssr's celestial mountain Demanding respect with the things she chose herself & bssr having no complaints.
Thank you so much for feeding my curiosity and I also wish you the best this year :Dc (Ps. love the shade being thrown at Airplane, i can imagine SQQ being asked by his disciples how to write fiction and he just points at their shishu saying "see that guy? dont be that guy")
LMAOOO we (me, just me) try so hard to deny it but good Golly gosh shen yuan is aggravatingly relatable. all of the svsss main cast is, rip. sqq sits on my shoulder judging my ever move, criticizing me before i have the chance to set anything in stone
other dumb name facts:
⢠i've headcanon'd Wei Changze's given name to be Tóng but this will very likely change because that's Absolutely an Airplane move. i like to think that his mother wasn't very educated & i made the "haha wouldn't it be funny if she named her kid a homonym for Servant" but Airplane did that homonym shit with Shen Jiu & i have a big enough sense of shame to rethink these things
⢠i can't bring myself to name any of them after Jewels or Flowers or Fruits or Nymphs even if there's double-meaning to those names because there's a Wei Wuxian on my other shoulder telling me "why are you naming them like they're cheap prostitutes" & it kills me, the Only character i Almost named after a flower (peach blossom) was Wen Ning/Qing's mother but it was because there's a juxtaposition between a delicate name & a tall/broad/sharp woman
⢠i have one big document where i save the most finalized versions of everyone's names but i'm a disorganized person who writes ideas down Anywhere when they pop up because i think it's better to get them down Soon as opposed to Orderly. anyways i found notes on a different app & Yixi had other name contenders such as:
⢠ŕ¤ŕĽŕ¤¤ŕĽ/Ketu/Meteor Shower/ĺ¤ç/Yepu/Night Waterfall (lovely but i didn't feel the pronunciation was Close Enough in both languages to justify it) ⢠འŕ˝ŕ˝˛ŕźŕ˝ŕ˝şŕ˝ŕź/Chime/Deathless/é沥/Shime/Deathless (who Actually names their daughter this?? i say that like i don't know 3 Different fathers who Would)
hello, hope youâre doing well :D! iâve been obsessing over all of your art and hcs of the mdzs older gen and i was wondering what your thought process of the names you chose for them were because theyâre really cool!! like i was thinking how yixiâs name is probably referencing that she came from tibet or how qhjâs courtesy name is maybe referencing his position as heir then later sect leader, like him inheriting the responsibility of leading the lan clan, and maybe the night character is in reference to his quiet personality but also his future loneliness in seclusion? or maybe im just looking into it too deeply (ďź´â˝ďź´)
hello hello!! i've been very busy, this new years is starting off with lots of farewells on my end & promises to see friends as they settle in to their lives, i hope you are well & i hope you've had a good holiday & will have a good year.
WAH you're too sweet đ i'm gonna be honest, a Lot of my thought process when Naming characters in general has been:
⢠"follow the naming process of mxtx," which means you can bet your butt i've been Carding through Tang Dynasty poetry for Months ⢠making Absolute Sure that None of the names i settle on are homonyms for anything with a double-meaning such as: modern swear words, innuendos, or just anything in general that would make them look like a clown ⢠do NOT be Airplane (Shang Qinghua) when naming characters- which in essence if you haven't read svsss means do Not give characters names that spell out the core of their origins. no "risen from the frozen river" names, "don't be too on-the-nose i'm Begging you do research" @ me ⢠do your absolute Best not to choose characters with a ridiculous amount of strokes Especially for given names (a rule i've struggled to actually live by) ⢠do your Best to not have too many overlapping characters that Canon names use ⢠sparingly looking at the tao te ching because i'm too scared of being culturally insensitive to nitpick a name from any pinyin i might come across
i won't claim ever to be a native chinese speaker: i have enjoyed the incentive to learn characters that are the building blocks to actual words that reading mxtx's works (& subsequently other cnovels) have given me, but it is not a culture i was raised in and it is not a language i read fluently. can't speak mandarin or cantonese or suzhounese or any other dialect and have been blessed with multiple friends who do and have done their best to help steer me in the right direction. all that being said, here's some dumb facts with the names:
⢠regarding the last-most point, i've picked ONE name from the tao te ching. i'm glad you enjoy Chengye/ćżĺ¤'s name but i've deliberated over it too long and have come to the conclusion that it Will be changed. taking inspiration from qiren's name, there needs to be a verb in there paired with something abstract but innately Human & i've found a passage in the tao that i Really liked that i feel alluded to my own characterization of him had the phrase YÇuqĂng/ćć
which is Just as abstract and ridiculous as Chengye (which i cannot remember where i pulled that name from), but comes with the added bonus of being from the Adjustment of Controversies. to Have affections but understand where they should be going or how they should be distributed, to question why a person favors One thing over Another despite the inevitable conclusion that All of it is working towards an inevitability completely out of a person's control, it all feels just absolutely peachy to thrust that onto qingheng-jun when he couldn't in his lifetime maintain the favor between his family & his wife. plus Wangji's name being tao-derrivative made me feel i needed at least one of the prev gen in this boat with their successors. i've studied the tao in a scholarly setting Once for a semester, and Once more for a week or two on my own time so Please do Not take my word as any level of expertise i'm begging you. ⢠I Do remember when picking out a name for Qingheng-jun, coming across a name that in essence meant "Bear the Night" felt a little too on-the-nose. there was no double meaning though i tried applying one. he's a Leader, he's a Cultivator, it's Expected of him to bear this and bear it as if it weren't a burden. and the more i thought/think about it, the less it made sense especially when All cultivators are expected to soldier through the same conditions, yanno? ⢠Cangse-Sanren is the only girl i've headcanon'd so-far with a courtesy name! and i Really Really wanted it to be something to do with celestial bodies Exclusively because Xiao Xingchen has the Most celestial name on this show outside of Lan Xichen but he doesn't count in my head. i also wanted it to have Anything to do with the moon because Xiao Xingchen's name has a good chunk of sun radicals in there, but also Moonbeam is what you'd call a fairy and she's a fairy and i Will Never let that go. the most buckwild batshit fairy you've ever met but a mortal worthy of being a celestial being. her Surname means Wish, so go wishing on the moonbeams because her husband certainly did. ⢠Cangse-Sanren in my headcanons named herself. She was a whimsical child, she named herself something outlandish for her surname, & she was obsessed with the cowherd & weavergirl story as a child so she named herself Liu/ćľ with the milky way in mind (here i go breaking my Not Too Many Strokes rule). ⢠tragically Yixi's name was more utilitarian than anything else. i needed something that worked in multiple languages based on my headcanons of origin & with the limited selection i had to work with, ç輿 was by & far my favorite. plus the implications of her having value, of being benificial to some far-off location that was as far away from Gusu as you could possibly get, how could i Not see the poetry in that? ⢠Yixi has no surname. Yi is not her surname, her full name is Yixi. where i headcanon her From, surnames weren't particularly commonplace outside of nobility and i don't headcanon her family to be of major importance (though i believe they're relatively self-sustaining). She might be associated with a specific clan her family works under or for & that may come up in the future, but for now it's just Yixi until or unless you think of her as already a married Lan. jury's out on whether the Lan clan would've ever called her Madam Lan tho. ⢠confession: Bu Xin's name was directly inspired by Unchained Love's Bu Xin. different spelling but iirc it's completely a homonym. second confession: i have yet to finish watching Unchained Love please go Easy on me
#& thank you for coming off anon to be silly With me Together & feeding the headcanon machine#mdzs#qourmet: aga#long#self rb

this is kind of a rant but hear me out, i was thinking back to when i joined this fandom. i was in awe, everyone was so excited and determined, some people would write fanfics, guides, headcannons and some people would draw arts, memes, and even make playlists. i honestly thought its one of the best fandoms (it still is), so many talented and dedicated fans, not to mention overall positive (lets not mention the mess that happened last year). i found it funny now how we all would spend our time gushing and clowning (or got clowned đ¤Ą) about pixels and now the game that we all love is going downhill. this is not a hate anon btw, im just grateful to all of you in this fandom! what really makes this fandom is the people, and whatever will happen with the future of fusebox i dont think this fandom will end soon. im happy that i got to meet lots of amazing people here and thank you to all of you who creates stuffs for the others (including you, vena)!
at this point we might as well make our own s4 lol i feel like the game characters are now our own (technically fb but yknow) because of the fanfics, hcs, arts and other stuffs that we create so im half convinced that we can make our own s4 or just remake our version of litg đ
on another note i saw people demanding fusebox that they owe them explanation, honestly i dont think we owe them anything. fusebox owes the staffs who got laid off, after all the claim that they have the best work environment (or whatevs, at this point idc what their "pros" are), they decided to abandon them, especially during this trying times. such a disappointment
I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU ANON
i was just talking to a fellow litg stan and it's very true. we, the players, actually make the fandom active and alive all year long, while fusebox posts and plays around with dumbass ads on social media.
i've met amazing people through this game. yes, we had a few bad apples rolling around here, but we created such a positive community under the litg tag, especially here on tumblr.
this was the first time i joined and participated on a fandom, and i'm very thankful for some of the people that i got to meet.
BUT YOU'RE ALSO RIGHT ABOUT THE FANS OWNING THE CHARACTERS.
because the ones fusebox introduced to us are nice, but what we did to/for/about/on them is far superior, no questions asked. there are magnificent fics out there, different scenarios, better art and concepts, like-
this fucking fandom is so talented, and i must add here, our material is good because we don't have a man with an unwashed ass regulating what we put out there. that's why you can name so many good fics and pieces of art that will stay with us for so long.
now, here's the thing... i do agree with you about the company and how they owe EVERYTHING to the employees. between explanations and paychecks, all the success they had are due to what that team brought them, up until they decided to call different shots.
the writers brought it and made us fall in love with the characters, and who approved fast solutions and cheaper art style for s3 (i'm not saying it's bad, but i am saying it doesn't fit in with the game's narrative) are the ones that deserve to get some shit.
but i also can't help saying this: as a company, fusebox owes the fans communication. said fans are the ones keeping the doors open and for that the least they could do is issue a post talking about what went down and why, besides giving the employees some PUBLIC recognition for their work, and clear recommendation for future employers and companies that consider hiring them, along with a fucking 'THANK YOU' note to tie it up real nicely. that's the bare minimum.
but fusebox owes the fans a little something, and that is some apologies. not for firing their crew, but for everything they did in the past. the neglect towards dark skin/lgbtq+/vagina owning players and characters because W-O-W.
that's the very least they could do but they're not even pretending they care. then they go ahead and use lgbtq+ characters on their banners and icons like they matter. the nerve!!

@lavstar i was so incredibly stupid and i deleted your ask while i was drafting it⌠i swear i didnât forget to do it đ anyway iâve FINALLY finished it so letâs jump into the compilation of the most planes i have ever brainrot â¤ď¸ because no â¤ď¸ you cannot expect me to pick one â¤ď¸ it is impossible â¤ď¸
two airbus A320s taking off from parallel runways, five nautical miles apart âcause theyâre not gay!
btw i genuinely do not care about military aircraft (never have, prob never will) so these are all to do with civil aviation. also huge disclaimer i did all the commentary off the top of my head (i did have to wikipedia some of the stats im not martin fucking crieff) so if i mess up a term or something thatâs on me
of course no post about my favorite planes cannot leave out the OG. my first love, the most plane i have ever ridden; the one, the only, the increasingly irrelevant due to industry shifts, the beloved Airbus A380.
(L) just look at this big beautiful girl! + (R) a view of i believe scotland? as approached from the north
i donât know why i love this plane so much, because lots of other people certainly donât for a lot of reasons. her size makes her the main character out of necessity at every airport she comes across, and sheâs an inconvenience for air traffic controllers for that reason. her origin story is [twitter stan account voice] a bit problematic. given changes in industry trends, she is also quickly becoming irrelevant. airbus my beloved please just admit that the four engines thing was nostalgia and go. sheâs a marvel of engineering sure, but when all is said and doneâŚthe B747 came, she served cunt, and then she got phased out. the A380 was made with the intention of doing the sameâŚunfortunately, she didnât really complete the second step.
wait holy shit. i know why i love this plane so much. itâs because this planeâŚis me â¤ď¸
â
and now for thee og in terms of famous big-ass planes that everyone loves: the B747. everyone loves the 747. even if they say theyâre not into planes, they are. for me, not gonna lie: a very big reason for why i love the Queen of the Skies so much is mark vanhoenackerâs book, skyfaring. he flew the 747 for briâish airways (when they still had them) and loved that plane so much and man who am i to blame him.
(L) i think i teared up when i saw her through the big windows for the first time bc i was like oh my god. i am going to be on her. this icon of aviation, the arguable symbol of commercial aviation. so much history, so much significance⌠+ (R) the past, the present, and the future of british airways in one image đĽş
i was on a 747 twice in my life. once on a cathay pacific flight to the philippines, and on my last flight abroad, on a british airways flight to heathrow. little did i know i was flying one of the last of their 747 flightsâthey phased them out completely the following year, a bit earlier than anticipated due to the pandemic.
as enzo ferrari once probably said, âask a child to draw a plane, and certainly he will put a hump and four engines on it.â in terms of sheer iconic power and energy, the Queen (and she is the only earthly being to whom I shall ever refer as such) would far and away be the top on anyoneâs list, save for the fact that i donât have a top to this list and i have other planes to get to dear god this is getting long do you know what youâve got yourself into!! the Queen really said âflight belongs to the people nowâ and the airlines just had to shut up and listen!! she is truly the main character!!!
genuinely donât remember what river this is except that itâs in the UK⌠đ
i feel like everything else i say about her is just going to be a pale imitation of how evocative skyfaring was, so honestly i really recommend the book itâs so good and itâs one of my favorites. my copy is sort of falling apart now bc i kept bringing it around to places đ anyway, the number of airlines using her for passengers is decreasing, but you know who still use converted versions of her as well as purpose-built models? cargo airlines! anyway, ups and their brown planes my beloved đ¤
â
this slot was going to go to the B767 and 757, and i was going to rhapsodize about how aesthetically the 767 looks like a nicer plane to me because of Chonk, but the 757 is really endearing because itâs a narrowbody jet and itâs got landing gear that is long in a useful but unusual-looking way, which in essence what iâm trying to say is that if the 757 were a person, it would be esteban ocon.
so i was getting ready to write all of this down in much more words than i needed, but i remembered suddenly the very reason i was making this post in the first place. and that, my friends, is the B777.
honestly you donât fully understand how big the 777 is until you see it in person. because we are all acclimated to think of like the 747 when we think of âbig plane.â but the 777 is massive. even i forgot about it when i wrote That Fanfic.
the 777 and 787 are the future of long-haul commercial aviation (and i say this as an A380 stannie). widebody jets with 2 big-ass engines are most likely what weâre going to see in the sky going forward when it comes to long-distance travel, and the pandemic pretty much confirmed that.
that aside, i love the 777. so much that i wrote a whole fanfic around one making an emergency landing â¤ď¸ i really pretended ETOPS (the thing where a plane can fly for a long time on one engine) did not exist for six chapters and an alternate ending and i think thatâs just very quirky of me aha đ¤Ş
dear god do not mind my hat i literally bought it because of fred fucking thursday of endeavour⌠what the FUCK was teenage me on đ
the 777 was supposed to be a trijet (one with three engines, two under each wing and one built into the vertical stabilizer) but as the mcdonnell douglas and lockheed martin trijets (cba to look up the numbers) were not projected to continue to be successful, they got rid of the trijet 777 idea and instead made it have two engines. another thing i think is neat is that all the examples of the 777 that you will see in the wild right now donât have winglets bc the wings themselves are so long and raked back that theyâre not necessary. which would be a weird thing for me in particular to find neat, because if you know me well you know i have a thing for winglets. (the 2022 f1 carâs front wing my BELOVED WAKSKDKSJSJ!!!!!) i also think the way the wingtip lights are incorporated into the wings are so neat. the upgraded version theyâre trying to make now, the 777X, will have foldy wingtips so you can DIY your own winglets and i think thatâs hilarious (and also cool).
â
genuinely i think iâm the only plane person that likes this last aircraft: the Embraer ERJ-175. i like her for purely nostalgic reasons. she reminds me of how i returned to my roots and decided to pursue engineering.
so okay this is going to have nothing to do with the plane, but i was lucky enough to be given a visit to the flightdeck after landing back home from a weekend trip. i was so excited to be allowed to sit in the first officerâs seat, and got to poke around the flightdeck for like ten minutes. which was cool, but all this was with the sinking realization that even operating a regional jet might be too physically demanding (read: unsafe) for someone of my⌠[exhales knowing EXACTLY what iâm about to walk into] height.
that is one fully glass cockpit. also those yokes are specific to embraer, boeingâs look more like f1 steering wheels with stuff cut out of them i think, and airbusâs are operated by side stick. itâs almost funny especially when watching flightdeck videos of the a380 cause itâs like⌠youâre doing All That *gestures vaguely at plane* with THAT *gestures at thing that looks like a chicken drumstick with semiconductors implanted in it*
so that was piloting as a career done with for me (much to my familyâs relief.) and then i thought âhm i donât have to be flying planes all the time to be working around themâŚwhy donât i work on developing them instead?â and i was passively interested in matsci already, so thatâs how and when i decided to pursue engineering, with hopes of working for airbus or boeing and in civil aviation.
weâll see how that pans out, i say as i side-eye the exponential growth of my interest in motorsport.
thanks for the ask! iâm so sorry i was stupid and deleted it but i hope you like this very long, drawn out, and frankly deranged response đ
#em speaks#lavstar#this is half me showing off my plane pictures half deranged rant i hope you enjoy

I'm sorry, but do you hate the sansa of books too?
Sorry for the late reply, but I get asked this so many times lol. I am pretty sure I have already answered this as well and itâs somewhere on my blog.
But honest question, are there any blogs out there who actually like the Sansa of the books? I havenât seen any. The people who claim to love book Sansa stan for a hyped up, sanitized, white washed version whose only flaw, as per their interpretation, is that sheâs just a little naive. But also sheâs super intelligent and smartest character in the series. And all this without any text to back up this strange dichotomy - naive and super intelligent at the same time!
Any discussion of actual book Sansa is labelled as âSansa hateâ and hordes descend on such posts demanding that it be tagged âanti-Sansaâ. So people who like Sansa think that the Sansa of the books is anti-Sansa!
Others bloggers have done a better job than me of explaining fandomâs perception of Sansa versus the actual book version. This post for example:
https://aiyassalt.tumblr.com/post/188322664000/honestly-i-greatly-dislike-sansa-both-her-book
https://aiyassalt.tumblr.com/post/188450445310/star-crossedvoyager-aiyassalt-honestly-i
One only has to look at number one Sansa stans David Benioff and Dan Weiss to understand how for most of her fans, they can only genuinely like the character and enjoy her when she is given the character traits and plots of other characters. Weiss and Benioff constantly claim Sansa is their favorite character and yet they are busy stripping Jon, Arya, Bran, Dany and other characters of their book characterization for Show Sansa.
Shit like this:
"She's like the warrior of Winterfell" - Sophie Turner on Sansa wearing armour for the first time in Game of Thrones season 8
Arya has needle? Well, Sansa will also get one!
Claptonâs view on creating Sansaâs new style is that itâs centered  around using found materials since Sansa sews her own dresses. Sansaâs  spiked necklace is a reference to Aryaâs Needle- this is Sansaâs Needle,  the designer has explained.
Teaching grizzled warrior Yohn Royce about the importance of castles as a first line of defence -Â Sheâs the warrior of Winterfell! She knows more about how much rest the soldiers required than Daenerys Targaryen who commanded armies for like 7 seasons!
And when she was walking around saying that they need food so ask everyone to bring grain to Winterfell and the two blokes walking behind her just look at each other like she said the most cleverest thing ever and omg they should have made her queen instead of Jon! Meanwhile book Jon Snow is breaking his head over how to get food for like 5 chapters and has still not solved the issue in the last book. Â
And a lot of book Sansa fans donât have an issue with all this - they think the smartest character in the whole of Westeros will just be better written in the books - meanwhile book Jon is stupid, Arya is just a revenge obsessed killer and Dany is headed for a dark ending because sheâs ignorant and impulsive. Their version of book Sansa is more diplomatic and intelligent than Jon and Dany - characters who are actually written going through grueling leadership arcs.
I was indifferent to book Sansa. She bored me. She was a spoiled, selfish brat in book one and a political pawn and prisoner in later books. I did sympathize with her situation and appreciated that at least now she was slowly starting to realize that appearances are only skin deep and trying to help whenever she could. I used to skip her chapters on re-reads because Tyrionâs POV was more informative and kept me entertained about the KL plots. But there were all these âPawn to Playerâ threads and Sansa BNFs on Westeros.org discussing book Sansa becoming so smart, that I would go back and read her chapters. And nothing.
And her fans overhyping the character and inserting her into other plots is what is making me dislike even her book version now. Jonâs story is wholly unconnected to her in the books, and yet the Jon Snow tag is full of Sansa. That incorrect-Stark or whatever blog is going to be my supervillain origin story.
One of the reasons for why I am desperate for the next book, is so that we can go back to discussing Jon Snow on the Jon Snow tag instead of it getting clogged by Sansa stans with pro-Sansa and anti-Dany stuff. The Jon Snow tag is not for ship wars and for Sansa stans to hate on Dany. Â Please George write the damn book. Â đ. We are desperate here. Â
I donât want to talk or write about Sansa. Itâs the last thing I want to do. But the show inserting Sansa into Jonâs plot because Benioff and Weiss was bored of book Sansaâs actual plot and wanted their favorite character to be more important and become a warrior and defense expert and Queen and all that means that Jon Snow fans are now stuck with the characterâs toxic stans.
I can empathize with Arya fans now. For a long time they had to deal with Sansa stans because in the books, its Arya and Sansa who have a contentious relationship and Sansa stans were always taking away from Arya and blaming Arya and Sansa BNFs were writing negatively about Arya.
But the show has changed that and the only reason I even started writing about Sansa was because of season 6 when Jonsa stans invaded the Jon Snow tag like cockroaches that can never be got rid off.
So yeah, thatâs my rant over. I just want The Winds of Winter. I want to read about what happens to Jon at the wall, the Nightâs watch and the Wildlings, Theon and Jeyne Poole, Stannis and the battle of Ice, The Boltons, a bad-ass direwolves vs Ramsayâs hounds battle, Rickon and Davos, Northern houses plotting and conspiracy and playing the game, is Mance alive? whatâs the deal with the Pink letter, Â Melisandre and Ghost and Jon and Arya somehow reuniting. I want to stop freaking talking about Sansa - a character I really donât give a damn about.
When TWoW comes out, hopefully Sansa fans go back to discussing lemon cakes and feasts and tourneys and the most realistic (though strangely flawless) and best character in asoiaf. I, on the other hand, am just a simple fantasy fan here for the swords and magic, direwolves and dragons, ice zombies and 3ERs - and hopefully TWoW will be written one day and will be chock full of material to keep me happy!
Hope that answers your question? đ

Has GRRM ever said in any interview or on his blog that he hates Sansa's complete storyline after 4th season? I dont really follow all of his fan/media interactions but from what I can recall he has spoken abt how LF in books wont give sansa to ramsay or how noone had issue when Jeyne was given the Ramsay storyline in books etc. Asking this question to you bcs you rightly point out how ppl misunderstood his interviews/posts ( sansans/targ stans etc) & I cant recall him ever saying he 'hates' sansa's story in the later seasons of the show ( not s5 in particular but even s6 to s8).
Capclave 2013:
A change that has repercussions for season 4 is Marillionâs tongue removal from the first season. Martin said that the change was made (from an anonymous singer being the victim of a de-tonguing) because they wanted Joffrey to maim someone the audience would recognize. He believes this is an issue because of the part the singer plays in Sansaâs storyline, how he affects her interactions with others in the book, and he doesnât believe another character will be fulfilling that role on Game of Thrones.
âGRRM talks season 4 & beyond - Winter is Coming - October 13, 2013
2014 Fan Reports about Capclave 2013 (*):
In a convention panel this year, George said on the record that he had no idea what they were doing with Sansa or where theyâre taking her storyline, which now makes sense perhaps. He was not pleased when he was talking about it, so who knows whatâs going to happen with her! Knowing GRRM, that could mean theyâre going off the canon reservation, and/or that theyâre going to be making a lot of shit up
I have notes Iâll be responding to (thanks!) but enough people commented about Sansa that I thought Iâd share that tidbit, since it happened back in September iirc (was the same panel where he criticized the exclusion of Tyrell brothers)
âstarkalypse - June 3, 2014
GRRMâs comments at capclave about Sansa (which I was in the third row for, for those asking about legitimacy) were among others during the panel that had a general theme of dissatisfaction with show changes. He was not in good spirits for that con and didnât really have anything positive to say regarding the show. So take it with a grain of salt; there are deviations away from the books in the episodes he gets writers credit for, so maybe theyâre doing something stupid or they really donât have a gameplan!
âstarkalypse - June 4, 2014
(*) These reports were posted in June 2014, during the airing of Game of Thrones Season 4, about Capclave 2013 that happened in October 2013.
Just after the rape episode:
How many children did Scarlett OâHara have? Three, in the novel. One, in the movie. None, in real life: she was a fictional character, she never existed. The show is the show, the books are the books; two different tellings of the same story.
There have been differences between the novels and the television show since the first episode of season one. And for just as long, I have been talking about the butterfly effect. Small changes lead to larger changes lead to huge changes. HBO is more than forty hours into the impossible and demanding task of adapting my lengthy (extremely) and complex (exceedingly) novels, with their layers of plots and subplots, their twists and contradictions and unreliable narrators, viewpoint shifts and ambiguities, and a cast of characters in the hundreds.
There has seldom been any TV series as faithful to its source material, by and large (if you doubt that, talk to the Harry Dresden fans, or readers of the Sookie Stackhouse novels, or the fans of the original WALKING DEAD comic books)⌠but the longer the show goes on, the bigger the butterflies become. And now we have reached the point where the beat of butterfly wings is stirring up storms, like the one presently engulfing my email.
Prose and television have different strengths, different weaknesses, different requirements.
David and Dan and Bryan and HBO are trying to make the best television series that they can.
And over here I am trying to write the best novels that I can.
And yes, more and more, they differ. Two roads diverging in the dark of the woods, I suppose⌠but all of us are still intending that at the end we will arrive at the same place.
In the meantime, we hope that the readers and viewers both enjoy the journey. Or journeys, as the case may be. Sometimes butterflies grow into dragons.
âThe Show, the Books - Not A Blog - May 18, 2015
Report about the last Game of Thrones Script that GRRM wrote:
No Wedding for Sansa and Ramsay: Without question, one of the most controversial changes the show made in trying to streamline the books was by slotting Sansa into the role of Ramsayâs wife and rape victim in Season 5. In the books, Ramsay marries and assaults Sansaâs best childhood friend, Jeyne Pooleâwho is being forced to impersonate Aryaâinstead. (You can actually see Jeyne briefly sitting next to Sansa in the showâs pilot.)
At the time Martin wrote this script, though, substituting Sansa for Jeyne was not yet the plan. Martin has Roose Bolton tell his bastard son: âWe have a much better match in mind for you. A match to help House Bolton hold the north. Arya Stark.â It should be noted, however, that in Martinâs script, Sansa isnât free from menace either. At his own wedding-day breakfast, Joffrey still threatens to rape the older Stark sisterâonce heâs âgotten Margaery with child.â)
âGame of Thrones: The Secrets of George R.R. Martinâs Final Script - Vanity Fair - December 7, 2018
A month before the Game of Throne S8 Finale:
Sansaâs story, in particular, has really deviated from the books. Ramsay Bolton â that marriage obviously was with a different character. When they start deviating like that, did you initially have any emotional reaction, even though you worked in Hollywood for many years yourself?
GRRM: Well, yeah â of course you have an emotional reaction. I mean, would I prefer they do it exactly the way I did it? Sure. But Iâve been on the other side of it, too. Iâve adapted work by other people, and I didnât do it exactly the way they did it, so âŚ.
Some of the deviation, of course, is because Iâve been so slow with these books. I really shouldâve finished this thing four years ago â and if I had, maybe it would be telling a different story here. Itâs two variations of the same story, or a similar story, and you get that whenever anything is adapted. The analogy Iâve often used is, to ask how many children did Scarlett OâHara have? Do you know the answer to that?
I know itâs different in the book and the movie âŚ
GRRM: Three children in the book, one by each husband. She had one child in the movie. And in real life, of course, Scarlett OâHara had no children, because she never existed. Margaret Mitchell made her up. The book is there. You can pick it up and read Mitchellâs version of it, or you can see the movie and see David Selznickâs version of it. I think theyâre both true to the spirit of the work, and hopefully thatâs also true of Game of Thrones on one hand, and A Song of Ice and Fire on the other hand.
âGeorge R.R. Martin on the Stark Sisters and Ending âGame of Thronesâ - RollingStone - April 22, 2019
James Hibberdâs Book:
GEORGE R. R. MARTIN: Jeyne Poole was included in the pilotâsheâs shown giggling next to Sansaâbut sheâs never seen or referred to again. I actually wrote Jeyne into âThe Pointy End,â my first script, when Arya killed the stableboy. I had some stuff with Jeyne running to Sansa being all hysterical and dialogue in the council chamber with Littlefinger saying, âGive her to me, Iâll make sure she doesnât cause any trouble.â That was dropped.
DAVID BENIOFF: Sansa is a character we care about almost more than any other. We really wanted Sansa to play a major part in that season. If we were going to stay absolutely faithful to the book, it was going to be very hard to do that. There was a subplot we loved from the books, but it was a character not involved in the show.
GEORGE R. R. MARTIN: I was trying to set up Jeyne for her future role as the false Arya. The real Arya has escaped and is presumed dead. But this girl has been in Littlefingerâs control for years, and heâs been training her. She knows Winterfell, has the proper northern accent, and can pose as Arya. Who the hell knows what a little girl you met two years ago looks like? When youâre a lord visiting Winterfell, are you going to pay attention to the little kids running around? So she can pull off the impersonation. Not having Jeyne, they used Sansa for that. Is that better or worse? You can make your decision there. Oddly, I never got pushback for that in the book because nobody cared about Jeyne Poole that much. They care about Sansa.
âFire Cannot Kill a Dragon: Game of Thrones and the Official Untold Story of the Epic Series by James Hibberd - October 6, 2020
GEORGE R. R. MARTIN: My Littlefinger would have never turned Sansa over to Ramsay. Never. Heâs obsessed with her. Half the time he thinks sheâs the daughter he never hadâthat he wishes he had, if heâd married Catelyn. And half the time he thinks she is Catelyn, and he wants her for himself. Heâs not going to give her to somebody who would do bad things to her. Thatâs going to be very different in the books.

Tangled Salt Marathon - No Time Like the Past
While I wouldnât call this the worst episode of the series, there are several others I dislike more, I would call this the most ill conceived story in the show.Â
All the other bad episodes have potential but are let down by poor presentation, boring predictability, or sloppy planning. This one however, is fundamentally flawed in itâs very basic premise and so ranks in the bottom of most fans lists. Even people who are far more forgiving of season three and than I am, and are hardcore New Dream stans, still dislike this episode. Thatâs how bad it is.Â
Summary:Â Rapunzel discovers Old Lady Crowley tossing out Cassandra's things. She is upset and demands that they be left alone. She then has Lance and Eugene help her save all of Cassandra's mementos and personal belongings, but she becomes saddened when Eugene reminds her that Cassandra turned her back on "her". Rapunzel takes a box of her things along with, unknowingly, a mysterious hourglass. As she examines it, she accidentally drops and smashes it and she and Pascal find themselves sent back into the past. They run into a teenage Eugene and Lance who keep calling Rapunzel "Sideburns". Rapunzel realizes that she and Pascal have inhabited the bodies of the Stabbington Brothers and decide to recruit the young thieves in getting the hourglass from the castle back.
Fun Fact! That Dummy is Rapunzelâs DoingÂ
Minor nitpick here, but Cass had nothing to do with putting Eugeneâs face on her sparring dummy. Rapunzel voluntarily did that back in Under Raps. Cas never requested it nor even expressed any joy over receiving said âgiftâ.Â
Basically the show is attributing one of Rapunzelâs mistakes/flaws to Cassandra in order to introduce a very nonsensical plot point later. So I need yaâll to keep that in mind as we go along. Â
Lets Talk About the Episodeâs OrderingÂ
We don't have production codes for season three like we did for the previous two seasons. So we canât know for sure what order everything was originally planned in, but I would argue that this episode should have came before Return of the King.Â
For starters this is a âbottleâ episode; it takes place mostly in the past and the only present day characters who show up are Eugene, Raps, Lance, and Crowely. As such you could potentially slot this episode in anywhere before Cassandraâs Revenge. You canât really do that with most of the other episodes so it could have been easily moved around when airing.Â
Therefore, I would argue that it should have been the first episode after Rapunzelâs Return for three key reasons.Â
It would have given Edmund time to travel to Corona and give Raps time to start up big building projects like fixing Old Corona. In fact sheâs already approving building plans for the capitol city at the start of the episode. Which could even explain why she took so long getting to the castle repairs if she was taking care of the stuff that the Saporians messed up else where. Â
Rapunzelâs stance over wanting to keep Cassandraâs things makes more sense early on, both in universe and in a meta context. Raps would still have hope if Cass has only been gone for a month or two instead what would now be four or five months down the line. It also makes sense that Crowely wouldnât wait around for that long. And from a meta standpoint, the audience would still be oblivious to what the heck Cass was up to and could theoretically side with Raps better; or at least empathize with her view point more, even while disagreeing with her.Â
Events in this episode better explains Eugeneâs decisions in Return of the King and gives the audience more context for certain stuff. Â
So Why Is There a Random Magical Time Traveling Hourglass in the Storage Vault?
Slowly but surely the series has abandoned all pretense that thereâs any logical world building in the show. Magical things just appear randomly now without any explanation whatsoever. Worse than that, things like the hourglass and map to the cursed tomb are treated as if they were always there, unlike the magical beings that they happened to run into in past seasons.Â
The problem with this is a lack of consistency. You canât have sceptics like Eugene and Varian if magic is so common and wide spread that anyone can run into it at anytime. Not to mention it diminishes the specialness and importance of the sundrop and moonstone if powerful magical items can be so easily found and stirred, undermining important plot points and the tension surrounding them.Â
But most frustrating of all, is that this could have been easily fixed by just stating on screen at some point that magic attracts other magic. Meaning itâs only Rapunzel herself who routinely runs into these things and not just everybody and anybody.Â
None of This Stuff Holds Any Meaning
Show donât tell!
At several points through out season three, both Raps and Cass morn over Cassandraâs left behind things. They tell us constantly that these objects hold significant meaning to them, but I, the viewer, have no damn clue as to why.Â
We were never shown on screen what was so special about these things other than the fact that it was junk Cass collected. Thereâs no story attacked to these assortment of objects nor any previous indication that Cassandra valued them beyond their usefulness. As such, any scenes involving her stuff fall emotionally flat.Â
Eugene is the One in the Right Here.Â
Eugeneâs right.Â
Any well adjust and mature adult will tell you heâs right.Â
If someone doesnât want a relationship with you, than thatâs it. There is nothing you can do but to move on. It sucks, but its life. To ignore that is to ignore someone elseâs boundaries and personal autonomy; while also devaluing yourself and youâre own needs.Â
In a competent show this would be a set up for Rapunzel to learn something about letting go and taking care of oneself emotionally.Â
But this isnât a competent show.Â
But Lobster is for Poor Folk
Food history time!
Lobster, and shellfish in general, have been considered low class food for centuries. Especially around costal areas like Corona. Itâs easy to attain, cheap, and not regulated like hunting was in much of Europe. In America, specifically, lobster was fed to prisoners and thereâs historical accounts of riots being started over it. Â
Heck, less than forty years ago, no one lived on the coast but poor people. Thatâs why thereâs historical communities of black people living on the southeastern islands in the US and why my father grew up in the swamps of Alabama during the 50s and 60s.Â
The gentrification of coastal property and seafood, like lobster, is a very recent phenomenon in human history, starting in the late 70s early 80s with the booming tourism industry and increasing globalization.  Â
So while I understand that the joke here is meant to be reflective of our current understanding of lobster being a status symbol, in universe, itâs the equivalent of Eugene getting excited for chicken nuggets instead of his usual bowl of cereal because the story takes place before the 20th century. Â
This means that these kids are so poor that fucking mcdonaldâs fast food would be considered a rare treat compared to the slop they usually eat. Yet again what is meant to be a lighthearted joke turns suddenly dark when you stop to think about it for all of two seconds all because the writers are so flippant about their world and characters.Â
This Wasnât Planned Out, So the Timeline Doesnât Add Up Anymore and Resources are Wasted
Remember the flashback in The Return of Strongbow?
Now I need you to remember that season three is two years later from season one and the movie. Eight years ago then, would be ten years ago now.Â
The Eugene and Lance in the bottom picture is suppose to be roughly the same age as the Eugene and Lance in the top picture; give or take a few months.Â
I know teenage boys can grow fast, but not that fast.Â
Eugene at 16 looks the same as he does at 26. All because the writers were too lazy to preplan things out ahead of time.Â
We should have seen the teen models with recasted voices back during that first flashback if they were going to tell this story later. Or the previous plot point should have been less than eight years ago.Â
In fact the first flashback no longer makes any sense being so many years ago given Eugeneâs engagement and recent breakup with Stalyan, and the later reveal that he was working for the Baron during the original movie.Â
Sloppy planning like this not only makes for a confusing timeline but it also wastes limited resources. I like the new models, I like the actors cast for these younger roles, and I do like the concept of seeing more of Eugeneâs past. But going through all of that trouble and money for what amounts to one throw away episode is mismanagement of the budget and work schedule. Â
Baby Varian Is the Episodeâs Only Saving GraceÂ
I know people are divided on the deign here. Some love it and some hate it, but thatâs a personal taste thing. The actual scene itself is golden either way, because itâs such a funny eater egg. Fans on both sides made memes out of this for days. Itâs legendary.Â
Personally Iâm more in the âlove itâ camp, though I can see the issues people have with the design. My main defense of it is more the fact that we got kid designs for the other OCs in the show and itâs only fair Varian got one as well. The fact that heâs in smaller versions of the S1 clothes doesnât bother me anymore than when Lance ran around for two seasons in the same outfit, including when he was a kid.Â
So if I like it, then why am I talking about it a salt review?Â
Cause the most memorable part of an episode shouldnât be a throw away gag!Â
People bring up baby Varian way more than they do about anything else in the episode, and no itâs not just because the character popular. Itâs because most would like to forget what comes after this scene.Â
Where is Quirin, by the Way?
Why is your six year old son running around the big city unsupervised?
This wouldnât get talk about as much it wasnât for the fact that Quirin being neglectful in season one was a motivating factor in his conflict with Varian. A conflict that was suppose to be resolved back in Rapunzelâs Return but we the audience have yet to visually see any difference in behavior since then. Â
Quirinâs absence here in the past highlights his absence in the present day and reminds the audience aware that weâve not been given a satisfying conclusion to one of the most important arcs in the series. Â
Lets Talk About Wasted PotentialÂ
Like I said, I like the idea of exploring Eugeneâs past. But we should have gotten that back in season two when it was more relevant. Part of why this episode fails is because Eugene has reached the end of his original character development. Heâs now on an identity crisis arc which has nothing to do with this episode. Â
But you know who still hasnât finished developing? Rapunzel.Â
Rapunzel has lots to still learn and viewing her past through outside eyes could have turned this story into something really special. Especially with the âinhabiting another bodyâ plot point.Â
You have no end of options here,Â
Have Raps inhabit Cassandraâs body for a day and gain insight into what motivates her. It could have been either before or after they met, both offers up possibilities.Â
Have Raps inhabit Eugeneâs body and experience what he had to deal with growing up and come to see his point of view. (This could have also worked with the Sabbingtons set up had the writers not been stupid.)Â
And my personal favorite, send her back to right after Queen for a Day and have her stuck in either Varianâs or Ruddigerâs bodies. Force her to see what she did to him and have her acknowledge she was wrong.Â
And those are just the most obvious choices, thereâs other more out of left field things you can do that would still work with good writing. Like exploring Lady Caineâs past, inhabiting Ariannaâs body and learning how to be a real queen, get dumped into actual young Gothel and lay out clues to the future Zhan Tiri plot, or possess one of the Brotherhood and experience the final days of the Dark Kingdom; the list just goes on and on and on.Â
But I Thought You Didnât Put Kids in Jail Frederic?
Remember that Raps and Pascal are possessing the Stabbingtons who are still teenagers here. They canât be much older than Varian.Â
This means that Varian isnât some special case. Teens have received harsh and deadly punishments in the past for non-violent crimes like theft.Â
Also teens are called kids still by the majority of the cast. Theyâre arenât considered adults with the same rights as someone in say their twenties, yet they can be punished the same as an adult would. Which is horrendous in any time period.Â
So in conclusion, Frederic is a fucking liar!Â
Tangled the Series canât decide if itâs in the far past or a reflection of the modern day. As such it winds up supporting the worst of both worlds. Barbaric practices like hanging for minor crimes and prison slave labor are treated as the norm and never called out for the horrific things that they are; treated as a joke even, but weâre suppose to accept that this world also somehow views adolescence through the lens of late 20th century sensibilities even as it forces minors to go through such atrocities.Â
Like what are you trying to say show? What is your message on the transition of adolescence to adulthood regarding rights and responsibilities? And donât tell me âitâs not that deepâ because this is suppose to be a coming of age show! Thatâs the entire premise of the series!Â
So How Old Are Stan and Pete Again?
I was always under the impression that Pete was a newbie guard, closer to Cass and Eugeneâs age than say Cap or Frederic. Thatâs why he screws up so much because heâs inexperienced, why he seemed to be the closest thing to a equal colleague Cass had in the guard when she was also just starting out, and why I assumed those braided girls from the movie were his sisters.Â
I mean there was nothing on screen previously that would necessarily contradict this reveal, it just doesnât feel right, thatâs all. I guess he could be like 20 here and be 30 in the show. That would make him only a few years older than Eugene, but still doesnât explain why heâs so useless a decade later.Â
Iâm fine with Stan being here though. I always thought of him being the older of the two. In fact I headcannon Willow as his mysterious wife that he talked about back in Montyâs episode during season one. (Sheâs Stan and Peteâs beard, and theyâre totally in a open poly relationship. Thatâs why theyâre allowed to stay in the royal guard despite being so incompetent cause theyâre technically Ferdericâs in-laws and Rapunzelâs uncles. Just no one ever talks about it cause itâs a minor sandal for a princess to marry lower class and Willowâs hardly ever there.)Â
And Why Does Xavier Have All Those Plot McGuffins?Â
I know weâll never get an answer, but at this point Xavierâs exposition fairy powers border upon ridiculousness. Itâs just lazy and a waste of character.Â
So How Does Time Travel Work In This?
There are three types of time travel stories in fiction.Â
First is the âChangeable Past, Changeable Futureâ. You see this in Back to the Future. What you do in the past will change the future, i.e. your present. You may or may not remember that you did it, but be warned you could change things too much and break stuff. Like erasing yourself from existence, or ruining your love life ect. The only way to fix it is to go back in time again and change stuff again. But beware of paradoxes or you may destroy the universe altogether. Â
The second is the âAlternate Timelineâ, where changing things creates new realties and itâs a matter of finding the right reality again. The tv show Sliders is a great example of this. Each new timeline is a different dimension. What you do in one wonât effect your original point of origin, only that particular world. The challenge if often getting home again because the probable diverging timelines are infinite and the changes of getting back are a zillion to one.Â
Third is the âClosed Time Loopâ. No matter what you do nothing will change. The future is inevitable and whatever you do in the past was always meant to happen anyways. Gargoyles handles this really well. You can also have âfix pointsâ where certain important things are set in stone but small things can be changed like in several Doctor Who episodes. Braking a fix point breaks the universe once again, while paradoxes are often the solution rather than the threat.Â
So which type of time travel is Tangled dealing with here?Â
Scenes like the conversation regarding Peteâs and Stanâs mustache or the ones involving Eugene working on his smolder suggest a closed time loop. Yet the ending to this episode reveals a changed future. Further still the grandfather paradox revolving around the hourglass would make you think an alternate timeline yet, weâve no indication that anything else changed other then Eugeneâs opinions on Cass, and Raps shows no concern about getting back to her original point in time indicating that it actually isnât another dimension.... so what is it then?Â
You donât have to have a tightly plotted time travel story to have an entertaining piece of media. Endgame is riddled with plot holes and contradicts itself constantly, but what it lacks in coherent plot it makes for with fun characters, emotional story beats, and good pacing that manages to balance the action with the drama while hiding the cracks just enough that you donât lose immersion.Â
Tangled however fails at even this because it gets the character beats so fundamentally wrong. Like you may dislike where the characters ended up in Endgame, but canât say that those developments didnât match the charactersâ previous storylines and logical trajectory. Tony finally becomes the selfless hero by committing the ultimate sacrifice, Steve learns self care as a mirror to Tonyâs arc as they were always parallels to each other, Bruce learns to accept himself, Thor processes his grief and lets go of the role he was assigned at birth but never truly fit into, and Nat becomes the leader she was destined to be rather than the sidekick. Â
What happens to the characters in this episode however makes no sense.Â
This is Another Missed Opportunity to Explore Eugeneâs Past
The other problem behind the episode is that we donât actually learn anything new. If youâre going to promise a story focusing on Eugeneâs past then I expect to actually glean some new insights.Â
We still donât know why heâs working with Baron or how he fell in/fell out with him, what his relationship with Stalyan is like, how he became so cynical; not just the general basics, like the orphanage, but that point in his life where decided that survival meant giving up his morals and ethics; where did he first learn his better ethics that he originally suppressed (cause it sure as heck wasnât Rapunzel), and when did he and Lance become separated?Â
This are questions that series decides to raise by making allusions to them and building conflicts off of them but never wants to explain the details of where they originated from. Itâs super frustrating and wholly unnecessary. If you didnât think the story of Eugeneâs past worth telling then why did up repeatedly bring it up Chris?Â
Why Are You Surprised by This Rapunzel?
Rapunzel you know Eugeneâs past. You know what he used to be like. You were literally there in the movie and saw him being an ass before this. You didnât start to like him until he dropped his guard down in the flooded cave back when you both where about to die.Â
You fell in love with him when he showed you his real self and he fell in love with you when you proved that you were accepting of that. You earned each othersâ trust. This here; angrily yelling at him and judging him, when youâre already hiding who you really are from him both literally and figuratively, is a breaking of that trust.Â
Who the fuck are you any more, Rapunzel?Â
Cause youâre not the same character from the movie. Youâre not even the same character from season one. But whoever hell you are now, itâs not an improvement I can tell ya that.Â
So How Did The Hourglass Go From the Treasury to the Basement Storage, and How Would Raps Know It Was There At This Point and Time?
Iâm guessing the implication here is that Crowley put Cassâs stuff in the vault, but like why the fuck would she do that? Weâre not talking about a family attic here, but the royal safe. The most heavily guarded room in the castle with the kingdomâs most priceless treasures and antiques. Nothing Cass owned was that valuable. Â
Rapunzel Is Full of Shit
Oh let me count the numerous ways in which this whole lecture is stupid.Â
Rapunzel left Varian behind. Rapunzel left Varian behind multiple times, including that time he was thrown in jail. She was not a good friend, and no, this is not a case of her learning from her past because not once has she ever admitted that she was wrong to do that. So this scene just makes Raps look like a hypocrite.Â
Eugene does not need to relrean a lesson on being a better a person. He did that during the movie and has progressed beyond that point. This âlessonâ is a waste of time and a misuse of the characters.
This reframes Rapunzel as being in the right during her argument with older Eugene at the beginning of the episode, even though sheâs not. In fact this is such a counterintuitive plot point that it boggles the mind. Who structures a narrative this way? Why so blatantly point out how the main character is wrong if not to have her learn something? Why frame the story to make the person whoâs personal conflict isnât even the episodeâs focus, into the one who needs to learn something? Especially if that something is already a lesson that theyâve learned on screen beforehand.
And why, oh good heavens why, would you teach children such a toxic message? Like on the surface it sounds like something youâd hear in a children's show, but the context of it is justifying harmful behavior where you selfishly ignore other peopleâs wishes and boundaries just to satisfy youâre own personal desires. Â
And finally, Eugene and Lance do not work as a parallel to Raps and Cass. Cassandra is an adult who left of own free will. Lance is a teenager who was arrested due to Rapunzelâs own actions. Eugene isnât the one who is responsible here, its Rapunzel. Who also left them both behind in her carelessness. Secondly, Eugeneâs decisions are spurned by years of trauma and a healthy fear of dying, while Rapunzelâs is wrapped up in her own need to always be right and to keep her immature and fanciful outlook of the world intact. As harsh as it seems, what Eugene did was based off a predetermine agreement and presumably Lance would have acted the same way or been pressured to act the same way by Eugene. In short, Eugeneâs cynical world view as a teen is not the source of his disagreement with Rapunzel but an adult perspective back by common sense and a respect of others choices. It makes no sense for present day Eugene to âlearnâ anything from this misadventure that he didnât already know and for Rapunzel to not learn anything that would actually tie the parallel together.Â
Locking Another Teen Inside a Jail Cell With Another Adult as a Joke, Does Not Erase the Inappropriateness of Varianâs Story
The episode tries to add another joke about Shorty sneaking into the prison without the guard knowing, but that still doesnât excuse the fact someone had to have tossed Lance in there with him on purpose. Otherwise Lance wouldnât have assumed Shorty was a fellow prisoner if he or the guard that locked him up saw Shorty sneak in before then.Â
Furthermore Lanceâs nonchalant response suggests this is not an out of the ordinary occurrence. Nor do any of the other guard comment upon the irregularly of teens being jailed with an adult. Now add in the fact that the show fails to clarify that previous âcellmateâ line from Rapunzelâs Return and now gives us more confirmation that Varian was underfed and malnourished for a year with that gruel joke and you have a horrifying picture.Â
Shorty might be non-threating, but that doesnât mean Andrew, a known attempted murderer and manipulator, is too. Nor any other adult who previously was housed with a teen before then. This is still very much not okay and no amount of âjokesâ will suddenly make it right. Â
Raps, Who is an Adult, Just Physically Threatened Two Teenaged Boys and Itâs Played as a Joke....Â
How many times do I have to say it? Humor does not fix bad writing. Iâm not laughing when a heroine at age 20, threatens a couple of kids for merely annoying her. Especially when said heroine has a history of abusing children; because let me repeat once again, neglect is abuse!
This is a Lie
No you wont.Â
Rapunzel never tells Eugene what happens on screen. I suspect that if she ever did, they would no longer be together, because what she wound up doing here was a violation of trust and boundaries in the worst possible way. Â
And This is Now a Time ParadoxÂ
A Grandfather Paradox to be specific. How can Rapunzel be here in the past to break the hourglass if the hourglass that sent her here is broken?Â
In a competent series this would be the point of a future conflict and not the actual resolution. Itâs not a closed time loop because of the paradox and the changes weâll see in the future.Â
So either sheâs in an alternate timeline/dimension and just doesnât gives a shit; leaving the real Eugene, Lance, Cass, ect. to go on without her; or sheâs just broke the universe and everything is slowly unraveling around her; galaxies are dying as she whines about being dumped, people in the future are being eased from existence, and God is cursing her name for ruining his creation, all the while she carries on oblivious to the destruction in her wake, as usual.Â
Thatâs it. Those are youâre only two options now. Is everyone from here on a fake copy or is Rapunzel the damned destroyer of worlds? You decide.Â
So This Confirms That the Stabbingtons are Indeed âFamilyâ
Another reason why I place this before Return of the King; it explains why Eugene considers the Stabbingtons âfamilyâ. Though if it was Rapunzel he actually bonded with and not the real Sideburns, then how much of his feelings are real and how much of them were fabricated by her? How much agency did this episode steal from him?
So What Exactly Did We All Change?
Well the dummy no longer has Eugeneâs face, but Cassâs painting of the three of them still has him ripped out of the photo, soo... Keeping in mind that Raps painted the dummy anyways and considering that Moonandra tries to kill him later on; Iâm going to guess that Cassâs feelings werenât actually altered. If anything their relationship might actually be worse now, cause Cassandra keeps acting like sheâs never had friends and Eugene has taken up Rapunzelâs blind devotion.Â
All that development in season one is just, poof, gone. Also itâs quite possible that the first movie as well has now it has been erased from existence as Eugene got his needed character development eight years too early. How the hell thatâs suppose to work, I donât know.Â
Outside of the that we get no confirmation how anybody else was effected, even though a more brainwashed Eugene running around would undoubtedly have caused a butterfly effect. Donât expect that to be explored anytime soon.Â
Though, it would explain why heâs suddenly such a doormat in season three, if this was the second episode as theorized.Â
No! This is the Wrong Lesson!!!
Let me explain narrative promises.Â
Everyone, on some basic fundamental level, understands how stories work. We hear them recounted to us over and over again from the day we're born to the day we die. Itâs integral to how we communicate as human beings. Everyone knows innately how to tell a story even if that person couldnât tell you how stories or structured or what certain literary terms mean, but they do it every day just through speaking. And while most audiences canât always pin point what upsets them about a story they can for sure notice when things are off and not satisfying to experience.Â
Now that doesnât mean that everyone can write an awarding winning novel, that study of a craft isnât important, nor that every amateurish critique thrown at any given media is valid. But it does mean that people have come to expect certain storytelling practices and can pick up on narrative cues. Weâve familiarized ourselves with the language of film, novels, comics, ect, into order to comprehend whatâs going on.Â
Rules of writing are just following that established language so that the audience can keep up. You can break these rules, sure, but unless you know what youâre doing and have a good narrative reason to do so, then you can easily lose youâre audience. And if youâre making money off said audience thatâs something you want to avoid.Â
A narrative promise is a cue; a set up that lets the audience know that âhey this is important, pay attention to this cause itâll come back into play laterâ. Now that the audience has been alerted to the plot point they expect fulfillment of the promise. If you break that promise, either through poor set up, lack of follow through, or by breaking an established convention of writing for no other reason then because you just wanted to, your audience is going to walk away unsatisfied.Â
The argument at the beginning of the episode was a narrative promise. It was a cue that set up the interpersonal conflict of the main character. For add context, I know that this is a coming of age story. Convention would dictate that the protagonist would resolve this conflict by learning they were wrong.Â
Thatâs not what happened here.Â
Convention was subverted. It wasnât the protagonist who grew and change, it was the person they were in conflict with who did. And it wasnât subverted because of any greater narrative reason, or future pay off, or even as effort to be shallowly âcleverâ; it was subverted because the author just didnât want to hold the main character accountable for anything. Because said character has now become his avatar for his wish fulfillment fantasy and having the main character admit fault would be to admit fault in ones own self. Rapunzel doesnât feel like Rapunzel this season because sheâs just Chris in a wig.Â
The episode broke a narrative promise to the audience; both within the episode and in the greater premise of the story, because of ego.Â
I donât claim this episode is bad just because of personal taste nor because I find it morally repulsive (even though both those things are true), I call it bad because it exhibits bad writing. Plain and simple.Â
Way To Undermine The Entire Point of the Original Movie, Show
Speaking of breaking narrative promises....Â
TTS is suppose to be a squeal to the original movie. Itâs even in the title of the show; both of them. In one fell swoop, the series has managed to sabotage itâs very reason for existing, as it erases Eugeneâs motivation and the inciting incident that kick started the film.Â
 Way to fucking go.Â
To further twist the knife, it diminishes the duel protagonist of said film in order to prop up a series original character, who isn't even present in the episode itself.Â
I donât mind Cassandraâs existence. I donât even mind her being the new deuteragonist and one of the main villains; even though she wouldnât have been my first pick to fulfill those roles given her lack of set up. But I do fucking mind it if she upstages other characters and/or derails their character arcs in the process.Â
This is the Death of New DreamÂ
I was still in denial when this episode first aired. I honestly believed that this and The Return of the King was build up to a third âbetrayalâ where Eugene finally became fed up with Rapunzelâs bullshit and joined forces with Zhan Tiri. I thought the end of the series would have Rapunzel apologize to everyone she did wrong, Varian, Cass, and Eugene, in order to break ZTâs hold on them, and that true loveâs kiss would reunite the sundrop and the moonstone and that would just tie everything together into a neat little bow and give us a truly daring character study of a Disney hero.Â
Oh dear merciful heavens, was I ever wrong. Â
How did we go from season oneâs challenging and mature storyline, complete with Disneyâs first real anti-villian, to this?!Â
What the hell happened!?Â
Rapunzel not only disrespects Eugeneâs opinions, violates his privacy and trust as she manipulates him as a teen, and then brainwashes him to think like her (even if accidentally), but doesnât even have good grace to tell him. She instead has the audacity to look all happy and self congratulatory because she got want she wanted. She, and the show at large, doesnât care what evil thing she does to get the desired outcome Rapunzel wants.Â
Rapunzel in this show is a spoiled brat. And the image of her and her now lobotomized boyfriend staring dead eyed at a picture of the creatorâs previous waifu OC with plastic smiles on their faces, sums up this series perfectly.Â
ConclusionÂ
This isnât even the worst episode of the series guys. I donât know if it would even make it onto a bottom five list. Thatâs how much crap I have to wade through when it comes to this show. This is however the most damaging episode to the franchise as a whole.Â
Not even the most hardcore of New Dream fans want to acknowledge the existence of that final scene, and Rapunzel stans wonât defend her beyond, âwell she didnât mean too, itâs the writing thatâs bad.â Yeah, the writing is bad, thatâs why the character canât and shouldnât be defended, not here and not in other badly written episodes where she also does bad things and never makes up for it.Â
Anyways Iâm finally caught up to where I left off, before the move, though sadly I don't think Iâll get this series done by the end of the month like I had originally hoped. But if you would like to help out I have a ko-fi you can drop a tip into if ya want.Â

I am new to the sailor moon fandom, and I've noticed people dislike tuxedo mask a lot in a way that seems disproportionate to the other characters. I never see anyone give much explanation outside of "he's creepy", and that's really vague so I'm confused as to why he's so hated. I like his design and concept and I do like drawing him so I'm a little :/ about this. (Also male characters with healing powers are hard to come by!)
Hi!! :D Man there's a lot of great discussion and examination of this over the years in my friends' blogs, but I'm on mobile, so I'll have to reblog with links later.
Short answer is: there are several general groups of answers depending on a) which version of Mamoru they were introduced to first, b) what their main interest in the show is/was-at-the-time, c) who they listen to/follow in fandom, and (maybe) d) their age/gender/background at the time of introduction.
Now, these can be further divided up, and there are always a jillion individual other reasons any given person may like or dislike a character, but this is a fairly useful exercise. This is also coming from someone (me!!!) whose favorite character in all of sailor moon is literally the support boyfriend/co-royalty, who's been defensive of that (and him) since 2014 (when *I* was new to the fandom), and I can think of shining exception Mamoru-lovers in almost every category, BUT--
Here we go.
Version: People who hate Mamoru usually seem to be people who saw the 90s anime first, wherein through initial misunderstandings, the creative team set him as a college student and portrayed him as older than the 17 (math and the R movie say he is) or 18 (that Japan's school system would have demanded he be) he is in season one. So automatically, something that wasn't reeeeeally looked at askance in kids' cartoons in the 90s went from being a kind of side-eye-but-normal RL age gap in teenagers and made it look Weird. Also he was really socially maladjusted in the 'picks fights with middle schoolers and laughs at his own jokes and criticizes our heroine a lot' way instead of in the 'thinks he's alone so does dumb crap that makes a mess of the senshi's day but otherwise is just mildly awkward with the girl he has a crush on and doesn't have any close friends except books' way. So there's where you get both "creepy" and "jerk". And some people choose to die on that hill, because...
Main Interest: ...they're not only not in it for Mamoru, but they really vastly prefer the 90s anime to the manga (or crystal, which has its own pros and cons), because they are THERE FOR SENSHI FRIENDSHIPS ONLY AND BOYS JUST DISTRACT FROM THAT or whatever, they are definitely not in it for romance (or het, or destiny, or etc etc etc). Or maybe they're there for badass fighters, and Mamoru is the non-toxic masculinity role model who subverts/inverts gender stereotypes by being the supportive boyf healer who stans female friendship, and the 90s kind of missed the point and sailed overhead with it and made it look (a lot of times) like he was just a useless joke. (Disclaimer: @idesofnovember and @floraone are very loudly and wonderfully 90s-anime-mamoru-loving fan creators who make it, through their writing, obvious that Mamoru is also all of those things in the 90s anime, it's just harder to see earlier on.) Some of this is just fine and dandy! I mean, everyone has preferences! But sometimes people who make these arguments get really strident about it, and have a lot of followers on social media, and that takes us to...
Who People Follow: So the concept of a Big Name Fan is basically a fan so popular and established in the fandom that lots of other fans know who they are/follow them/respect their opinion. Many of these fans either don't get the metric or don't care, where when you reach a certain threshold people start biting other people on your behalf and your opinions weigh a lot-- no, your opinions are gravity wells that distort/change fandom around you. and your opinions turn into dogma for some of your fans, and then anyone who disagrees with you gets shouted down *by your fans*-- you're not Just A Fan with a personal hobby blog anymore, you have to think about what you say. you have to be more careful. but, uhh, the POINT IS, there are a few of those that don't like mamoru for various reasons, so sometimes it's tough to be a mamo-fan in fandom space.
lucky for me, i both alienate the standard-bearing shippers and am too harmlessly weird in my mamoru fandom and ships to get targeted anymore ha ha. let's go prince/knights shipping!! mamo/shitennou is *the BEEEEESSSST*
anyway i forget everything, this is months and months old

Bring It On (2000)
-a film to write about-
July 28th, 2021
Though I havenât quite been on movie hiatus, Iâve been sticking to comfort films that Iâve seen a million times rather than new content that I can give fresh review treatment. But recently, during one of my houseâs regular WiFi malfunctions, my friend and I surfed through On Demandâs odd, niche, forgettable, and memeable selections, finally landing on Bring It On (2000).
Iâve heard of this movie, and its musical version, but Iâd never seen it until this week. Watching early 2000s movies is a favorite past time of mine, so watching it felt like slipping into a familiar and beloved, yet of course cringey, old friend. This month I also watched But Iâm a Cheerleader (1999) for the first time, so apparently watching *queer* cheerleading movies is also becoming a trend for me. Iâm not complaining. Nope.
Speaking of queer, watching Bring It On brought up an old debate of mine: is the movie queerly subtexted, am I watching it with a gay lens, or is it queerbaiting in a 2000 version of that random kiss shared by Veronica Lodge and Betty Cooper in the first season of Riverdale (yuck)?
Was I the only one expecting Faith- ahem, Missy (Eliza Dushku), and Torrance (Kirsten Dunst) to make out? And that at the very least. Because the movie also had me playing âsiblings or coupleâ several times, and the Pantones gave me some incest-vibes. So, at the very most, I expected some kind of incesty threesome between Missy, Cliff (Jesse Bradford), and Torrance.
There is also something to be said that perhaps everything Eliza Dushku is in gives me major queer tension vibes. (Looking at you, Buffy). (Side note: can we talk about how both Eliza Dushku and Clare Kramer are in Buffy. I stan.)
Bet you didnât think this would be this kind of review, huh?
I digress. Overall, I loved the movie. Itâs 2000. You have to wade through the bullshit fact that the only type of humor in 2000 was homophobia. Also, were we supposed to laugh when that the one male cheerleader on the Toros, whose name I canât be bothered to remember, kept assaulting Courtney (Clare Kramer)?
The movie needs more of the Clovers. Iâm in love with all of them. They make it a point to refuse Torranceâs money, and they also make a point to KICK FUCKING ASS. It feels like there shouldâve been a spin-off movie about the Clovers (or a graphic novel series!), rather than a million sequels (which Iâm not interested in watching⌠except maybe the upcoming Bring It On: Halloween, which is going to probably have more Black Christmas (1974 and also 2019) vibes than anything else).
Does Isisâs character get more explored in the musical? She should be even more of a main character.
As far as a love interest goes, they played Cliff dirty when they made him do the thing all male characters in popular media do when they get whiny and touchy and weird when they feel like theyâve been misled or tricked rather than have a proper conversation with the female lead. Sigh. Thatâs still a problem. But other than that, I think heâs cute and weird and I might have a bit of a crush on him.
Plus, itâs Joey from Hackers! The 1995 movie starring Angelina Jolie and Matthew Lillard that no-oneâs heard of but everyone should see.
The movie is a glorious mess of tropes. I read fanfiction. I love the glorious mess of tropes. Iâm about to steal the toothbrushing scene and use it in a fic. Too cute. The mixtape? The alternative guy and girl meet the cheerleader? I love. The witty banter? Check. The almost kiss while he pushes her on the swing? Check. The cheeky parody of cheerleading? Check.Â
Now, Aaronâs car? Not a trope.
Thereâs a more sophisticated review of this movie out there. There are probably over-sophisticated reviews of this movie out there. But Iâm here to have a good time, and this movie is too.
Have you seen Bring It On? Drop comments below, Iâd love to hear your thoughts!

i feel like iâve seen this comparison made before but iâm gonna do it again anyways.
adrien agreste = a bad version of zuko (atla)
theyâre both the fandomsâ most-popular character, both are subject to abuse from their dad, both have mysteriously missing mothers, both have great privilege and power and both are woobified by the fandom.Â
the difference is one character has a story and arc and characterisation that makes sense, and the other is adrien.
lets go through everything one by one hmm?
abusive dad:
so zukoâs entire arc basically centres around him overcoming the abuse of his father, which is also given thematic significance in that zukoâs abuse parallels the way the firelord/s have abused their people and the world and is a powerful narrative for any child trying to reconcile the love and fear they have for abusive parents. (there are a million and one essays about this out there but still. i feel like iâve made my point)
adrienâs abuse is almost always a tangential thing. it seems to only exist as something to make adrien sad for pity points. adrienâs abuse doesnât seem to have any bearing on his actions, or motivations as a person or character. his exposure to people who actually care about him isnât building some kind of internal conflict or realisation that even though adrien loves his dad, heâs not healthy or safe to be around. weâre 3 seasons in to the show and the only thing adrienâs said or done or thought about his relationship with his dad is âsometimes iâm sad but sometimes iâm happyâ.
mysteriously missing mothers:
so we see in some really poignant scenes that the disappearance of zukoâs mum was extremely traumatic for him and something heâs still dealing with and broken over years later.
adrien has also got a missing mum, and like from what i can tell from the show sheâs been missing like about 9 months? maybe slightly more. and conveniently, we very, very rarely see adrien act or react in any way that could be related to his mother. the episode where he sneaks out to see his mumâs movie is possibly the only time we see adrien acting out of grief.
what we see with adrien most of the time is someone whoâs already grieved. someone whoâs already accepted and moved on, not someone whoâs holding on to the hope that his beloved mother is actually safe and well and on her way home rn (because, again, as far as adrienâs aware emelie just disappeared one day. sounds like kidnapping to me). adrienâs acting like he never even knew or cared about his mum, like she died of natural causes when he was a baby or something. that heâs got fondness for her simply because sheâs his mum, but no personal relationship to deal with.
great privilege and power:
at the moment, adrienâs actually pretty similar to zukoâs early use of his power. zuko was desperate to get what he wanted (his dadâs love) and was willing to enact violence and terrify innocent people to get it. eventually though he learned that he had a duty to use his power (as a fighter and prince) for good.
adrienâs still kinda in the first stage and i honestly donât know if heâll get better. adrien wants marinette/ladybug to love him and he wants to have fun, itâs just convenient that fighting a supervillain is âfunâ for him and being a âheroâ keeps him close to marinette. weâve already seen adrienâs willing to use his position as a superhero to try and keep marinette to himself (copycat, frozer, glaciator, ladybug and so on) and takes advantage of the fact that he has a miraculous to ignore marinetteâs boundaries almost every episode. and no, itâs not on the same scale as the prince of an imperial power setting villages on fire, but the fact remains that adrien is still not the great paragon of virtue and kindness the show pretends he is.
iâve gotten shit for this before and iâll get shit for it again: but adrien is badly written. heâs constantly set up as the ultimate hero and a saint and a virtuous angel even though virtually every single one of his actions is wrong and morally disgusting and itâs to the point that if anyone says âhey maybe donât worship this animated childâ his stans will come for your throat foaming at the mouth and demanding you instead criticise any of the other characters thatâs already criticised fairly.
i just. it shouldnât be too much to ask for a show that makes a show of bringing up traumatic events like emotional abuse and missing parents and a supervillain that takes advantage of peopleâs negative emotions to actually have a bearing on the characters and plot.Â
#ml#atla#adrien salt#zuko#comparing adrien and zuko#ml salt#ml writers salt#ml creators salt#ml fandom salt#i'm waiting impatiently for the day that the fandom gets over their obsession with adrien to actually treat him like a character and not a#wishfulfillment boytoy#i know it's not gonna happen probably for 15 years but still#and by then if the ml fandom isn't already dead i'll beat it to death with a bat

I have a lot to say and not enough time to say it. It hurts, but yaâll know what this is about so if you want my full fandom retrospective opinion thing guys, here.
Iâve been following Vivienneâs art and career since I found her on dA in 2009. Iâve basically grown up with her and have a wide range of opinions up and down her collective work. I must stress that I do not know her as a person and no matter how critical I get in my personal time if I somehow met her in real life or converse with her online again (like, back in the day we went back and forth. She was pretty nice to me), Iâd be humble and congratulate her for her success.
Critique does not, EVER equate to attacking people.
But
the reason I donât call myself a VivziePopVivzmind-fan is the exact same as to why I donât like the proud use of âantiâ. Let me try and explain -
The vast majority of Viv fans are just that: fans. Vivâs one of their favorite artists and theyâre happy for her and obviously defensive when some mouth breather pops into their fan discussion calling her and all of them trash. Quite a lot of the Hazbin fans I know in my circle of friends are all pretty accepting and agree on the problematic notions and implications of her work.
HOWEVER, thereâs a vocal minority in the VivziePop fandom that were and still are toxic. Their specific interest in Viv back in the day was toxic...and now that sheâs moved on into a successful career I doubt theyâve gone away, considering the things Iâve heard. These people - theyâd flood Vivâs comments sections and stuff with messages like they were talking to her when they werenât and theyâd unironically call her a god in a way that feels like gaslighting, ex: âIâll NEVER be as good as you Viv! My art is just sooooo unpopular oh god you are incredible no one will ever like you as much as meeeeeâ. It made me uncomfortable. It made me not want to be around her because these people took Vivâs role in their lives so seriously and their demand for her attention...it struck a nerve.
These same fans have been around long enough to see actual shitlords - the likes of Kiwifarms and tapatalk wikis - come in and actually harass Viv. Vivâs been sent revenge porn by sick freaks who think theyâre funny and believe she deserves it. No. In my non-name fan bystander opinion, Vivâs got some shit to work on, but no one deserves raperevenge porn. EVER. It was genuinely bad and yes Viv and her base have every reason to NOT TRUST these communities. Unfortunately, when these incidents happened, these particular fans took it upon themselves to gatekeep the fandom and act like Vivâs unofficial guard against any kind of decenting opinion of her, all without her say so.
((to the critics who will be all âbut Viv or Faust said THIS to their fans-â, like I said, Vivâs far from perfect but regardless of how much she prolly wanted people to side with her Iâm gonna guess that she didnât want people sending transphobic death threats to DollCreep. Again, and this is coming from a bystander here, I have a feeling Viv knows about some of the toxicity but doesnât know how/want to address it - which is a conversation all itâs own.))
This particular breed of VivziePop âfanâ holds so much toxicity in her fandom(s). They arenât the only cause, but theyâre there. They feel entitled to her attention and her approval. They creep me out. Having spoken to other much-less critical admitted fans of Viv around me, these fans appear to creep everyone else out and put the rest of the fandom on edge. Theyâre gatekeepers. Theyâre creeps. Like the bronies and SU fans of yestertodayyears, they know harassment exists and that people have crossed the line - so they think any means is necessary to prevent that is automatically good. I could pile together all the incidents and folks whoâve had bad runs ins with this aftershock of Viv-obsession, but I do have a life of my own and this post is already stupid long so Iâll just list out the biggest examples and provide receipts when asked.
Critical blogs have gotten RAPE and death threats because they donât like Vivâs art. HonestZoophobiaCriticisms, a blog I interracted with back in the day, def got one. Now Vivâs opinion of crit-blogs is that theyâre âbad takesâ but I can assure you she doesnât want that shit being said on her behalf.
Iâve seen young artists get blacklisted from sites and forums cause they so much as post a redesign. Viv and co get told through the grapevine that someoneâs making hatespeech and so preemptively block said person (prolly cause theyâre in the middle of WORKING and canât deal right now) only to find out after the fact that no, it was just a kid drawing their version of her characters. Thereâs serious miscommunication issues within the fandom about whoâs âgoodâ or âbadâ and once you get the actual staff involved in this game of telephone youâre begging for trouble. The problem acknowledged, however, itâs souly from the âViv never did anything wrong campâ. No word is said about how ugly the fandom is under the surface itâs all one type of personâs fault and not complicatedâ. Blah
Iâve only ever had ONE obsessive âfanâ whoâd stalk me, mock me, and then redraw my art just to get attention from me. That shit fucked with my head. As a follower hundreds of miles away from Viv whoâs agreed/disagreed with her through the years - I absolutely believe her when she says she hates âcreepsâ and that she doesnât want anyone in her fandom spreading hate on her behalf. Itâs the one thing about her Iâm POSITIVELY sure of. Whether she believes that said underlying harassment exists and/or is even a problem within her fandoms is anyoneâs guess. Thatâs not what Iâm here for. Iâm here to write stupid blog entries like this, talk about fandoms and media and how they and the real world affect one another, and rb fan art I like. Iâm cautiously optimistic fan with a side of salt.
Mixed opinions and critique within a fandom CAN and SHOULD exist. Hazbin Hotel has been greenlit by a studio! It has a product line of merchandise you buy. Helluva Boss is getting eight more episodes this coming year (yeeee:3yeeee). Two of Vivâs properties are now products. Nothing is immune from critique. And in critique you will find a lot of people who are not âniceâ. Critique or analysis doesnât have to be nice. There will be, in Vivâs wordsâ âbad takesâ on her writing. Maybe they will be actual CinemaSins-styled bad takes or maybe Viv is just mad that people donât love and feel inspired by her characters the way she wants them to - itâs a fact sheâs going to have to get used to.
((TBH, Iâm pretty sure sheâs already realized that criticism of all types need to exist. Itâs just that, again, her and the SpindleHorse staff are kind of overwhelmed by all matter of takes and opinions coming their way they kinda canât deal weeding out the fair ones from the assholes, so she lumps them all together.))
Shitposters, ironic fans, unironic fans, critical fans, just critics of Hazbin and Helluva CAN and WILL exist. They should exist and not feel threatened by the megafandom. There are people out there who are one step further and rightfully bothered by Hazbin/Helluvaâs use of incorrect symbols, portrayal of certain topics, and the response by creators. These people have strong opinions and are actually disgusted by Viv. They deserve to exist too and should not be vilified because, like me, theyâre commentary doesnât consist of anything personal towards the people at Spindlehorse or the fans of her works. They can rant, they can be professional, they can be petty and they can be fair. But they will exist. You have to deal with it.
I am an ADD/OCD ridden autistic woman with serious anxiety issues who has no one to talk to half the time and so only HAS my fandom to communicate with. But thatâs just it - itâs a fandom. A community. You have to learn to not think souly of yourself and of others in a community. A fandom doesnât exist just for you or any one person. You have the right to be angry and defend or be offended. And itâs in the spirit of that that I ask, prrraaaaaay even, that I please
NOT BE CALLED AN âANTI-ANTIâ for not liking the moniker?!
I DONâT TO BE ANÂ âANTIâ. Not ironically, not unironically. âAntiâ should be for politics and shit like pedophiles, necrophiles, nazis, serial killer stans, Trump, racists, antisemites, terfs, animal abusers, rapists, and antivaxxers. Anti should only come into critical media analysis when these ethical issues follow suit IN TO fandom discussion. ((EX: Anime and MLP proudly waving their cp and non-con into the public eye; Hazbin appropriating cultural symbols which are not satanic; Basically anything that concerns John K or Butch Hartman.))
If your DNI list unironically consists of the entirety of one fandom:Â CONGLATURATIONS! You have done the exact same thing these particular creepy Viv fans have done: monopolize the conversation. And yes, people Iâm referring to, ITâS STILL A PROBLEM EVEN IF YOUâRE FIGHTING RACISM/SEXISM/HOMOTRANSPHOBIA.
There are hundreds of Vivziefans who ARE more critical, accepting of faults, interested in discussion and especially rewrite and redesign stuff who would LOVE to engage with you and give you a follow. Thereâs hundreds of people who no doubt agree with you!
But the thing Iâve seen these very proud AntiHazbinVivzieHelluvaWhatever blogs do is lash out at fans for continuing to like Viv and consume Vivâs art in a healthy way. What the actual fuck is your problem?
I get it. Say a crazy Hazbin fan gets on your case for even SUGGESTING Viv could be homophobic ((âSHEâSBIANDWORKSWITHGAYPPLblahablahblahâ)). They get in your face, make some callouts, try to rile up support against you, leave disgusting harassment throughout your social media? Absolutely ban worthy. After that itâs perfectly understandable why you donât want to engage with anything HHHBZPVivzierelated because youâre so fucking tired of being labeled an abuser or âjust jealousâ for having an opinion on a show you donât like. Iâm with you!
But,
A fan agrees that something in the canon is bad or that Viv did something they donât like?
A fan likes your silly shitpost meme?
A fan asks if they can like Hazbin and follow you at the same time?Â
A fan does fan art of something you donât like?
If your response to any of these ^^^ things is to get LOUD and accusatory, Vivsplain them about how theyâre an absolutely awful person to ever question YOUR opinion, or just block them without a second thought? Youâre a petty, vendictive shit and you also need to learn to let things go. Iâm sorry but you do. As I already said, Vivâs work is a brand at this point, not just the work of a singular person. As such, there are gonna be mixed opinions and you canât judge every single one of these people by what they like. Youâre a shitty critic with a shitty attitude and yes that will demean the value of what youâre saying. This is bad because, if youâre trying to point out how Angel Dustâs abuse IS handled terribly; gay rep in Vivâs work is weak and terrible; the show appropriates closed practices; the fandom makes excuses for predatory artists and creepy behavior and individuals who have sketchy pasts - IâM WITH YOU. WE NEED TO BE TALKING ABOUT THIS SHIT. JUST BECAUSE THESE ARE ADULT CARTOONS SET IN HELL MEANS THERE SHOULD BE ANYTHING CLOSE TO 2013 PONY-TUMBLR. <<<---- this shit is as important to me as it is to you and I really donât like being called an abuser or apologist for saying âhey maybe blowing up at ppl for the shows they like ISNâT the way to go about thisâ.Â
But I have, just like the good old days of 2015 Zoophobia of yore, been blocked because I admit to being tired of âAntiâ being equated to âcriticalâ. Same with hater.
Critical DOES NOT = Anti+Hater. Iâm fucking tired of people saying it does and Iâm tired of people taking up the term as some weird form of fandom reappropriation. Itâs stupid.
Tl;dr: Once upon a time, I was in a budding fandom for something I liked made by an indie artist I watched on dA. I wanted to be a bigger fan than I was already, but was told by toxic people within said fandom that I couldnât be part of it for reasons theyâd made up in their head about my âmotivesâ against Viv. My admiration for Viv or what I liked about Zoophobia didnât matter because I thought the story was really rushed and people werenât being truthful with how they really felt about it - ergo, I HAD TO GO.Â
Flash forward 8 years later- My opinion of Vivâs body of work has changed but I still find myself in love with her style and some of her characters. I want to be on a forum or service that gives a healthy look at the problems there are with this series and fandom...and Iâm met repeatedly by petty bs where people are again at each otherâs throats. And yes, I do think itâs causing more harm than good especially when you insist thereâs a âx person shouldnât be trustedâ mentality when fighting actual fucking racist, xenophobic, predatory bullshit.
#vivziepop#vivziepop critical#vivziepop drama#hazbin hotel#hazbin critical#hazbin hotel critical#critical hazbin hotel#anti anti#antis#anti hazbin hotel#cause I want both sides of this debaucle to see this and I'm tired#K?

starker reclist - AUs
Hey guys! Welcome to the second part of my personal Starker reclist, dedicated to AUs. Last week I posted my canon-based recs, you can find them here.
I tried to incorporate as many tropes as I could, hoping everyone will find something special within their interests. There are a few a/b/o and underage fics, all properly tagged in case anyone wishes to avoid them. I also tried to highlight soulmate AUs because I reckon itâs a somewhat popular trope. Enjoy! â¤ď¸
Last updated: April 25th, 2020. All new fics added will be marked with ***
⢠007 AU by @darker-soft-starker (T, 4k, completed)
Summary:Â Undercover and bored at an art auction, Tony finds entertainment in Peter Parker.
Review: Look, Iâm a simple woman. Daniel Craig has owned my ass ever since Casino Royale and I was reading 00Q and Hartwin before I even shipped Starker. Point is, I like spy movies, ok?! So naturally I couldnât leave this fic out of my reclist. I you need further incentive, consider this quote: âWhat, a little late night espionage not romantic enough for you?â Peter retorts, whipping a pistol out from his jacket and aiming it at Tonyâs chest.
⢠3 Times I Told You I Loved You & 1 Time You Said It Back by @starkeristheendgame (E) background Peter/Steve, Peter/Bucky, Peter/Scott
Summary: Peter Parker confesses his love to Tony Stark three times. Once at ten, once at fifteen and once at twenty. Finally convinced that Tony will never love him back, Peter ventures out into a different path, desperate to find the love he seeks from someone else. But you know what they say about star-crossed lovers.
Review: This lovely fic holds a very special place in my heart. Iâm so invested I decided to wait until itâs finished so I can read it all in one sitting. Peterâs longing and heartbreak hurt my poor soul but I trust Jensen to give me that promised Starker endgame - I know it will be glorious when it finally comes.
⢠A Night on the Town by @scarletmanuka1 (G, 2.3k, completed)
Summary: Nightclub AU. Years after the events of Endgame, Tony has hit rock bottom. The Snap left him crippled, Pepper has abandoned him and has taken Morgan with her, and he's feeling old and lonely. Peter arranges a night out at the nightclub that he works at to try and cheer Tony up.
Review: I love get together fics, especially if it involves oblivious!Tony getting his shit together and going after his man. Seeing him bitter and broken after Thanos was hard, but special kudos to IronBros moments because that friendship is true goals!
⢠Age of Adeline by @starkerforlife6969 (completed) background Harley/Peter, Bucky/Peter, Wade/Peter
Review: Iâd never in a million years think about this movie as a Starker AU but gosh, this is everything I needed in my life and it completely devastated me but I loved every minute of it. As a devoted monoshipper, I was surprised to realize that I got emotionally involved with all pairings, even more so with Starker, which totally paid off. Gorgeous, powerful and heartfelt. God bless SFL.
⢠assume makes ass for u and me by @pretty-well-funded (M, 1.6k, completed) tw underage
Summary: In Tonyâs defense, he was sure the kid was a rent boy.
Review: This 1.6k fic caught me completely off guard and now Iâm crying because I need MORE. I love the premise, the dialogue is criminally good, their voices are amazing and I canât get enough of cheeky!Peter charming Tony with his wit and filthy mind. Â
⢠Bamf!secretary Peter by @starkerforlife6969 (M, completed)
Review: Who could ever resist some corporate espionage drama with bamf!Peter leaving Tony speechless and horny? Not me. Iâd read more 30k of this verse because competent, sassy Peter Parker is such a kink, omg.
⢠Biker!Tony by @starkerforlife6969 (T, completed) Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Review: Same age AUs are not usually my thing but I canât resist cute high school sweethearts written by this fandom goddess. Plus, protective!Tony calling Peter âdollâ does things to my heart - and Peterâs.
⢠Breaking Character by @cagestark (E, 8.3k, completed)
Summary: Tony Stark, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, and spy for SHIELD. Working with another SHIELD spy, the infamous Spider, he will take down an infamous human trafficking ring in New York. But the act they have to put on will demand more from Tony than he ever thought he'd have to give. Not that he minds.
Review: The spy trope seriously needs more fic like this one, because Iâll have bamf!Peter lying back to save his country while Tony freaks out any day. Cage hits the perfect balance between plot building, fantastic sexual tension, clever dialogue and the hottest smut sequence. What a ride! (Pun intended). Â
⢠Curiosity Killed the Cat by @areluctantsblog (T, 1.5k, completed)
Summary: Peter has been modelling in an art school for years. He's used to strangers' eyes roaming his body - clothed or naked - and he knows that it's not him they are looking at. Not him who they are interested in. He's just a model, a tool for their work. And for a long time he doesn't notice the one pair of eyes that, despite seeing him but rarely, is looking right at him.
Review: Very soft and atmospheric, this fic left me in a bit of a daze and it took me a while to realize it was over. Great writing will do that to you.
⢠Detective!Tony, Graffiti Artist!Peter by @starkerforlife6969 (M, completed)
Review: Oh donât mind me, just appreciating this authorâs talent at writing from the filthiest smut to the softest âTony saves Peter in all ways that matterâ like this ficlet. We stan.
⢠Eat at Peteâs by feyrelay + glorious art by @peachbabypie (E)
Summary: Peter gives him an unimpressed look, âIf you didnât do your work, then you wouldnât be able to earn my time though, would you?â Pfft. âKid, I have more money than god. I can splurge on your delicious pancakes and attention, trust me,â Tony informs him loftily. Peter smiles that wicked, crooked little smile that's just for him. It's not even and perfect like his the-customer-is-always-right one that's more frequently on offer. âI didnât say you couldnât afford it. I said you wouldnât have earned it.â
Review: How can we ever say no to dom!Peter putting Tony in his place and hopefully on his dick + Tony loving every second of it?? Their dynamics are fantastic and that TASTY COUNTER DIALOGUE KILLS ME. EVERY TIME. Check it out and come scream with me: sub!Tony rights :D
⢠Fire and Ice by LeafyGreenQueen773 (M, 3k, completed) Soulmate AU
Summary: AU where when someone writes on his or her skin, the same thing shows up on their soulmate in the same place as a Mark that fades away in a few hours.
Review: This was the first Starker soulmate fic Iâve read and it made my heart ache so soft and good. Lovely and bittersweet, quiet and painfully honest.Â
⢠Genius, Acrobat, Playboy, Philanthropist by @scarletmanuka1 (E, 28k, completed)
Summary: After Peter's aeriel acrobatics partner, Adrian Toomes is fired from The Avengers Circus Troupe for theft, he is shocked to discover that his replacement is non other than legendary performer, Tony Stark - the man that Peter had hero worshipped since he first learned how to tumble.Â
Review: After reading this fic I realized I need more Circus AUs in my life. I could read jealous idiots falling in love while doing beautiful acrobatics for the rest of my days. Original plot, nice character development and I really appreciated how the author inserted little canon things here and there.Â
⢠Happy to Disappoint by @deaded-blush (M, 60k, completed) tw underage, domestic violence
Summary: Adrian Toomes is in quite deep with notorious mob boss Tony Stark. But when Tony comes to collect the debt owed, he's surprised to discover Toomes has an adoptive son. The chance meeting changes the direction of both their lives...
Review: Hands down one of the best Mafia!AUs Iâve ever seen. Read it all in one sitting and by the end I was SHOOKETH and utterly obsessed with this story. Nothing about it is okay so brace yourself for whump!Peter and lots of h/c. Bonus points for an incredibly satisfying ending that will make you gasp out loud.
⢠Hey Baby, Slip between my Beta-Pleats and get to know my Alpha-Helix? by @starkerforlife6969 and @darker-soft-starker (E, 37k, completed) A/B/O
Summary: Even though Tony can't tell the difference between Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo, Peter really has no other choice. His heat is around the corner, so even though he loathes the party-going, booze drinking, smug playboy know-it-all that is Tony Stark. He'll just have to do.   Â
Review: I canât believe life went on as we know it (or did it??) after these two geniuses wrote together. This is the Starker version of âenemies to loversâ we all wanted and deserve, where spoiled-bratty-posh princess Peter finds the perfect balance for his chaotic energy in goofy-unapologetic-charming playboy Tony. Their falling in love is just so tender, so genuine and so good, itâs impossible not to cheer for these two sweethearts through this delightful, carefully crafted story.
⢠If you let me by @css1992 (E, 12k, completed)
Summary: Peter had tried dating younger guys, but it just didnât do it for him. They were often too eager, too fast, too rough. Just too young, in general. Not that older men couldnât be too much, too, Peter learned it the hard way. The man looking back at him from across the room seemed like a good one. He knew he shouldnât judge a book by its cover, but he was gorgeous. Possibly the most handsome man Peter had ever seen in his short life.
Review: I remember the first time I read this fic it hit me in such a powerful way I cried a bit and was too overwhelmed to do words and tell the author just how much I loved it. But I never forgot this fic or the way it made me feel. Itâs so evocative, so sexy, so raw, so heartbreaking, so sweet and so gentle. Great atmosphere, even greater characterization and some of the hottest smut Iâve ever read. Treat yourself and check this out right now.  Â
⢠Iâll be Home by @starkerforlife6969 (M, completed) A/B/O
Summary: The story starts when Soldier Tony comes home for a few days, and is introduced to the love of his life.
Review: Will I ever stop reccing SFLâs works? Maybe, but today is not the day. This gorgeous, breathtaking fic attacked me in my own house during Christmas day and made me cry like a baby. Iâm a sucker for reunion stories - the longing, the heartbreak, the power of endurance. This fic reminded me that no matter how long or difficult the journey, love will always find a way.
⢠Little Spider by @stfustucky (iwillpaintasongforlou) (E, 5k, completed)
Summary:Â Peter Parker is one of the country's best hitmen, known in the underworld as the Little Spider. He spends his days in the lap of luxury with his billionaire fiance Tony Stark, and his nights doing dirty work for various shady characters. Life is good, right up until someone puts out a hit on Tony and wants Peter to pull the trigger. It... might be time for them to have a talk.
Review: Omg this fic was so deliciously good in a totally surprising and sexy way. Bamf!Peter took my breath away with the perfect balance between his two personas. Tony getting off on that sheer power and confidence is a BIG MOOD and my second favorite thing in this fic. The first being the badass power couple they make.Â
⢠love somebody like you (E) by @intoxicatelou
Summary: five times Tony was Peterâs roommate and one time he was his soulmate instead.
Review: Who doesnât love some forced proximity mixed with the unbeatable soulmate trope? This plot is the hottest take and my heart cannot handle young!Tony with his brilliant mind and sassy charm protecting and flirting with Peter, unfff feels everywhere *cries in Starker*
⢠Love Thy Neighbour by @darker-soft-starker (T, 2.3k, completed)
Summary: Tony's new neighbour is kinda weird.
Review: I know I keep saying that same age!AUs are not really my thing but Iâm the softest bitch for feel-good, cozy domesticity, and I love how this charming story shows that ordinary life become magical when shared with someone special. I could babble all night about how eccentric and confident Peter seduces our man of science that for once has absolutely no idea of whatâs going on - but you really should see it for yourself right now :)
⢠Mafia Boss!Tony Break Up Make Up by @starkerforlife6969 (E, completed)
Review: Man, this fic was so rude to my heart. The heartbreak, the rough sex, the guilt, the hopeful make up, the gorgeous ending. My body literally cannot take the stress, why are Mafia AUs so doomed and beautiful and more importantly, why is SFL so good at writing them???
⢠Microcosm Series by @bloomblood (M, 32k) tw underage
Summary: Tony and Peter become each otherâs heroes after the Snap, saving themselves before they offer aid back to the world.
Review: I havenât read many post-apocalyptic fics but this seriesâs raw atmosphere sucked me in. I adore the quiet intimacy, the slow and tentative healing, and all the silent and complex emotions underneath apparent simplicity. Big aesthetic mood, just as its lovely author.Â
⢠Musechaser by @nightskygardenia (M, 10.5k, completed)
Summary: Eighteen year old art student Peter Parker is desperately searching for his muse, someone who can bring his creative skills to the next level through inspiration. Lucky for him, his next class just so happens to feature a gorgeous model by the name of Tony Stark, a man Peter's convinced is his muse, to the point of staying after class to ask for private modeling sessions.
Review: Another big aesthetic mood, this fic paints a gorgeous imagery. I love the setting, the slow pace and the building anticipation until the sexual tension finally breaks. Peter is adorable and Tony exudes confidence; their voices are spot on and their chemistry is palpable and intense. Â
⢠My Best Friendâs Dad by @darker-soft-starker (M, 17.6k, completed)
Summary: Peter is home for the summer, back from his first year away at college. Having stayed over at Harley's house every weekend since they were fourteen, he never used to think much of his friendâs dad. A few years worth of college experience has Peter noticing Tony in a different way. This time, Tony notices him back.
Review: Turns out that Tony Stark being a dad and a daddy is too much for my body. I worship this fic. I wanna get married to it and have its babies. No words will ever make it justice *sobs* no but seriously, secret relationship is a perfect Starker trope and this one will take you to the edge of your seat until the very end. A+ characterization, lovely build up, infuriating cliffhangers and the wholesome happy ending we all deserve. This is the kind of fic that leaves you a bit depressed once itâs over, because you suddenly realize youâll never read it for the first time ever again. So get to it and make sure to enjoy every second!
⢠One Call Away by @readysetstarker (E)
Summary: Tony didnât need the phone sex gig. He was more than well off, his own sex life was in great shape, but damn, there was just something about listening to someone else get off to his voice.Â
Review: Omg who could ever resist sex hotline + daddy kink + identity porn? Dev is coming after our own hearts and bodies with this hot combo. I love the balance between their cute chemistry and the hot phone sex, plus the identity porn is deliciously fun. I was so happy to know this fic is getting longer than the author had previously anticipated because Iâm definitely not ready to let it go.
⢠Open Road by @starkerflowers (E, 2.5k, completed)
Summary: Itâs not love, but itâs good. TW: implied abuse (not between Tony/Peter); bruises/violence; panic attack.Â
Review: This refreshing not-quite-a-love-story will capture your heart, make it hurt, make it ache, make it hope and finally, make it heal. This fic is so gorgeously written I honestly cannot rec it enough. Yes, itâs dark and angsty, but itâs also gentle, hopeful and deeply evocative. Â
⢠Panty Raid by @starkerforlife6969 (M, completed) A/B/O
Summary: Â Imagine Tony being forced to do a panty raid as an initiation for his fraternity. So Tony, keeping up his playboy appearances, sneaks into the omega dorms. And he sees sweet innocent Peter who is so alarmed by the alphas raiding their dorm Tony canât help but comfort him.
Review: Unf this fic is just too charming and cute, my heart cannot take it. Frat stories are so fun they make me forget my preference for age gaps and realize I could read more 50k of protective young!Tony any day, please and thank
⢠Peteâs Eats by @darker-soft-starker (T, 9.3k, completed)
Summary: Peter has a YouTube channel where he just drinks wine and teaches people how to cook things if they live in a mediocre apartment. While cooking and drinking he just talks about stuff like memes and school and, most importantly, his undying thirst for Tony Stark.
Review: This is legit the funniest shit Iâve ever read, everybody else can go home. I was already sold on Peter being a relatable thirsty dork, but Tonyâs A+++ characterization (for a moment I thought it was RDJ on the big screen) and the identity porn side trope killed me for good. And what a way to go. Iâm an angst hoe but I could read this forever and would be okay with it.Â
⢠pondus, pondera by spqr (M, 9.3k, completed) underage prostitution but not between P/T
Summary: Peter sells his virginity for $5,000 when heâs fifteen.
Review: Ugh Iâm so weak for the angsty hooker trope, I just love the potential to simultaneously explore whump, mutual pining and gentle recovery. Trust spqr to deliver it all with a carefully crafted slow burn, god-tier characterization and a heartfelt and satisfying get together. This fic is a gem.
⢠Powerful by @cagestark (E, 4.6k, completed) SIM!Tony
Summary: After finding out about Peter's abusive ex, Tony privately vows revenge.
Review: This fic took my breath away and made me realize that dark!Tony with a soft spot for Peter is everything I need in my life. Precious Peter being empowered by a viciously protective Tony is now my absolute jam, and it was fascinating to see see their dynamics mutually feeding each otherâs nature. This fic is gorgeous, sexy and liberating.Â
***Red Light District series by @starker-stories (17k, ongoing)
Summary: Everyone knows that Tony Stark is a playboy who has dozens of women passing through his life and through his bed. What everyone doesn't know is that Tony Stark is deeply closeted, longing for something he can't ever have -- a life and a love with another man.
Review: Iâm completely in love with this series and not only because it explores the good old hooker trope which Iâm very partial to. Itâs so well written and atmospheric, if a tad bittersweet and heart-wrenching. Great narrative tension, Tony and Peterâs chemistry is insane, their voices and dialogue are amazing and the smut is looong and scorching hot *chefâs kiss*Â
⢠Samadhi by @starkercrossedlovers (E, completed)
Summay: Tony goes to yoga to try and deal with his anxiety and ends up falling for the instructor, one Peter Parker.
Review: Okay so yoga fics are among my guilty pleasures and I canât get enough of feel-good fics like this one. Peterâs such a sweetheart, so thoughtful and amazing with Tony. I love it when they take care of each other and find solace together, this fic made me soft :â)
⢠Single dad baker!Peter and lawyer!Tony by @starkerforlife6969 (G, completed)
Review: Iâm not usually a fluff girl but this fic is just too wholesome to go by unnoticed. Nothing hits my soft side harder than a cynical character reaching that turning point that makes them start to believe in love. Fuck yes, YOU SHOW THAT MAN SOME HAPPILY EVER AFTER PETE
⢠Soft Kitty by @ko-fiandfanfiction (E, 33k, completed)
Summary: Peter wasnât wearing something Tony would call normal, not that there was anything inherently wrong with what he was wearing or anything. It just struck him asâŚdifferent. To put it plainly. Tony is not sure what to make of this new development.
Review: For those of you who love some occasional feminization, this is the perfect treat. Soft, sexy and sweet, it combines top guilty, pining Tony with oblivious idiots in love, two of my favorite tropes. Amazing slow burn with glorious sexual tension, infuriating dancing around each other and a very satisfying get together. Bonus points for including the âAvengers living together in the Towerâ trope, this is the 2012 team building fic we deserved.
⢠Solitaire by @darker-soft-starker (M, 29k, completed)
Summary: After a traumatic experience, Tony loses his marriage and his business empire in one fell swoop. At rock bottom, it takes real change to pick up the pieces, to dig himself out of the funk he's been living in. It's not pretty. Along the path of healing Tony meets a bright young man, Peter Parker, who makes the entire journey worth it.
Review: Oh man, this was a tough ride on the soul. Few things hurt me like reading whump!Tony but his healing journey is so beautiful itâs all worth it. Top notch characterization, amazing dialogue, FEELS EVERYWHERE, and a gorgeous portrayal of loneliness, friendship, hope and love. Â
⢠Someone Who Makes you Happy by tuesday (T, 6k, completed) Soulmate AU
Summary: Peter was born with several marks already marring his skin, including an interlocking AES over his heart. A scar-sharing soulmate AU.
Review: This fic is absolutely stunning and it makes my heart ache in all the right places. Great worldbuilding (I LOVE the scarring concept, so unique and fitting to these characters), A+++ Tony characterization (the wit and the self-hate are so spot on I could weep) and a journey full of longing, until they finally get to be on the same page.Â
⢠Splice by Mezzymet (E, 35k, completed) A/B/O
Summary: "He's not...." The doctors polite nature and disposition hadn't been able to mask the odd tone of his voice, like he had been reading someone's death certificate. Only Peter hadn't been on his death bed. "Peter isn't like the other kids.
Review: I keep coming back to this story because itâs such a fascinating and unique take on this trope. Very well thought and put together - the world building is fantastic, the sex sequences are breathtaking, and Tonyâs gentle thoughtfulness makes me wanna cry. Â
⢠Stopover by @cagestark (E, 10k, completed)
Summary: A stopover is just a break in a journey. Tony is on the run from the organization he used to kill for, and when he stopped for gas and coffee in the small town of Stopover, IL, he had no plans to leave with anything more.
Review: *sigh* this is the mob boss!Tony fic Iâve waited for all my life. Even more impressive than the delicious smut checking all my kink boxes was the phenomenal build up, the overall urgent atmosphere that surrounds those âon the runâ, combined with the gentle wonder of stealing a moment in time to find solace in the most unlikely place. Breathtakingly moving.Â
⢠Student Body President Election by @starkerforlife6969 (T, completed)
Summary: Tony and Peter are competing for Student Body President and a smear campaign takes things a little too far.
Review: GIMME ENEMIES TO LOVERS AND ALL THE HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA. This ficlet is so fun and adorable it will make your heart smile. Great plot idea and the usual bonus points for protective!Tony being a sweetheart. Will have more 30k, pls and thank.
⢠Such a Softer Sin by @css1992 (E, 18k, completed) background Peter/Norman
Summary: Tony is a self-made man. Peter is a sugar baby â someone elseâs sugar baby.
Review: Another fantastic slow burn that hit me hard in the feels. I love it when fics explore the charactersâ personal struggles before they get together, and while the Peter!whump destroyed my heart, Tonyâs parallel journey of growth took my breath away. css1992âs talent took the good old sugar baby trope to a whole new epic level.Â
⢠Summer Daze by @darker-soft-starker (NR, 4.3k, completed)
Summary: Starker no-powers au where Peter watches construction worker Tony from his bedroom window as the older man works across the street.
Review: Ahh yes, the classic âfood as metaphor for loveâ trope, my absolute jam. This fic is so adorable and endearing, pining!Peter in his wooing mission makes my heart ache and the sweet anticipation is so good. Thereâs something about this fic that gives me nostalgia; itâs as soft and warm as a summer breeze.
⢠Tamed by @cagestark (E, 8.3k, completed)
Summary: Tony Stark, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, and spy for SHIELD. Working with another SHIELD spy, the infamous Spider, he will take down an infamous human trafficking ring in New York. But the act they have to put on will demand more from Tony than he ever thought he'd have to give. Not that he minds.
Review: Itâs no wonder this is Cageâs most beloved fic. Bad boy!Tony being all soft for Peter is everything we deserve, not to mention a mesmerizing (and HOT AF) first time together. This fic shows how rich and captivating Cageâs writing is - sheâs able to transform that old basic trope into something unique and heartfelt. If you need one more reason to read this, please consider: best first bj ever :)Â Â Â
⢠Teacher!Tony wrong number by @areluctantsblog (T) tw underage
Summary: Peterâs using a replacement phone and mistypes Nedâs number asking for help on a physics problem.
Review: I have such a soft spot for this fic! It was one of the first AUs Iâve ever read and Iâm completely in love with their dynamics. Peterâs underage but this fic is carefully written and pretty tame, so Iâd rec it to anyone looking for the good old âthey probably shouldnât, but then again nothingâs happeningâ trope. Â
⢠The Bleedover Effect by tuesday (T, 11k, completed) Soulmate AU
Summary: The first time Tony got punched in the face by nobody there, he had a lot of very complicated feelings about it that mostly boiled down to, "I deserve this." A pain-sharing soulmate AU.
Review: Tuesday truly is the queen of soulmate AUs, we have no other choice but STAN. First of all, I adore the concept here - being such a sucker for whump, this could easily become my favorite soulmate trope. As usual, her Tony voice is perfect and his devotion to Peter hits my fragile heart every time. Kudos for the soft and hopeful ending. The series has been discontinued but the sequels are very much worth the read, if youâre up for it :)
⢠The Catfish Chronicles by @stfustucky (iwillpaintasongforlou) (E, 32k, completed)
Summary: Peter creates a fake profile under the name âBenjaminâ trying to catch his scumbag boyfriend cheating. Tony creates a Tinder profile for "Anthony" looking for love late in life. Funny how two geniuses who fight side by side every day can only manage to fall in love after they've accidentally catfished each other. This is... gonna get awkward.
Review: My identity porn thirst might be showing but who cares, I want these two idiots pining after each other in every possible way. This was such a fun and exciting ride! The suspense had me legit freaking out and their get together was lovely and wholesome. I particularly adored how thoughtful and sweet Tony was dealing with Peterâs insecurities, that was handled really well. A treat!
⢠The Concept of Domesticity by @peters-tofu (E) mpreg
Summary: Tony has accomplished nearly everything he's set out to do, now he wants something different. A family of his own? Sounds easy enough. But he's far too impatient for a relationship, so surrogacy it is. Meanwhile, twenty-two year old college student Peter Parker has just volunteered to be a bearer at an agency.
Review: Canât say Iâm a big fan of this trope but since every rule has its exception, here it is! The only Starker mpreg Iâve ever read is so so good and adorable I canât help smiling every time I think about it. I just love their dynamics, the soft domesticity, the cute bantering, and the fact that Peter has one baby daddy all wrapped around his little finger but what else is new ;)
***The Date by Neuropsyche (E, 33k, completed)
Summary:Â Tony has a high society gala and he needs a date.
Review: My favorite fake dating AU so far, this fic is so sweet and wholesome. Confident!Peter is my jam and it was amazing to see their sassy bantering evolving into genuine affection towards each other, not to mention the delicious hot smut with dom!Tony :DÂ
⢠The Final Heist by @starkerforlife6969 (G, 10k, completed)
Summary: Tonyâs only got one more heist. He does this, he can be retired on an island in the Mediterranean in a month. All he needs is a world-class art forger. (White Collar inspired)
Review: Honestly, the amount of times Iâve mentioned SFL in this list is getting embarrassing. I must have done something really good in another life to get such a talented author writing something inspired by one of my favorite TV shows. I feel like this fic was personally crafted for me; itâs original, romantic, sexy, fun, clever and so very atmospheric. Iâm a lucky hoe.Â
⢠The Heart Benefits of Exercise by @areluctantsblog (E, 14k, completed)
Summary: Personal Trainer Tony and Gym Newbie Peter. Peter can hardly keep it together watching Tony demonstrate different exercises and lift weights. Tony is very much aware of the effect he has on his trainee, and after a session, Peter begs to be shown a whole different array of exercises.
Review: This fic was a lovely surprise, very relatable and entertaining. Love myself an adorable Peter thirsting over Tony (canât really judge lol), especially if it comes with a good amount of pining and hot, kinky smut :D
⢠Tipping the Scale by JayPendragon (E, 119k, completed)
Summary: Peter has a rhythm. A system. All runs like a well-oiled machine, engineering pun intended. Every wheel of his life is churning perfectly. He doesnât expect Tony Stark of all people to throw a wrench in it.
Review: Hooker!AUs are my kryptonite, Iâm so here for the âfuck first, talk laterâ and the general pining + misunderstandings + h/c combo this trope provides. This amazing longfic delivers it all with a well-paced, delicious slow burn told from Peterâs POV, which is always a delight to read and makes you fall even more in love with him. If you also enjoy this trope youâre in for a treat!
â˘Â To Catch a Spider by Thekeyandquill (E)
Summary: After the war, Peter Parker left his career as a spy behind to live a simple life in the south of France. But when someone frames him for the theft of plans for a new weapon, he must re-enter his old life and get close to the real thief's likely next target - one Tony Stark. A To Catch a Thief AU.
Review: TKAQ is so skilled their writing should be experienced like fine wine. Amazing research, top notch world building and characterization, and the loveliest atmosphere that makes you feel like youâre inside a movie. Clever, organic dialogue and a sexual tension so palpable you can almost taste it. This is a gem. Make sure to check their other works.
â˘Â Two White, Two Black, One Pink by @starkerforlife6969 (E) poly fic: Peter/Tony, Peter/Steve, Peter/Bucky, Peter/Strange Summary: Peter has three (maybe one day: four) men in his life who mean the world to him. Review: Ugh, this fic is pure bliss. It has legit ruined me for any and all other poly fics. Words just cannot describe how gorgeous, poetic and unique SFLâs writing is, or how deeply it has affected me. So if you enjoy Mafia AUs, poly fics and soft-but-also-bamf!Peter taking care of Tony AND being taken care of by the men he loves, give this a chance and experience transcending storytelling.Â
â˘Â Uranium Heart by spqr (M, 11k, completed) Soulmate AU Summary: Itâs probably better, Peter thinks, that he doesnât know who his soulmate is. He wouldnât want to lie to them about Spider-Man, but he doesnât think heâd be able to tell them the truth, either.
Review: Be still my heart. This is such a gorgeous fic! Not only it combines two major tropes in a coherent 11k story, but I also appreciate how spqr explores these characters and their dynamics in a very unique and realistic way. I strongly recommend checking their other works, especially Landslide.Â
â˘Â Waiting Game by @cagestark (E, 6k, completed)
Summary: Peter hasn't seen Tony in fifteen years. Not since he had their hasty marriage annulled, graduated college, and moved across the country. Their twenty year high school reunion will find them reunited. They've both changed, but one thing hasnât. Hint: it's their feelings for each other.
Review: This fic literally made my heart BURST WITH FEELS: the whole build up and anticipation, the slow disclosure of their past, the first uncertain moments of their reunion. I also appreciate the powerful and moving message underneath it all, that true healing comes after we overcome our demons at our own pace. A masterpiece.
â˘Â Wooing Peter Parker by Neuropsyche (E, 62.5k, completed)
Summary: Tony and Rhodey dodge the press and sneak into the library where they meet Peter Parker - who immediately catches Tony's eye. But Peter isn't a one and done kind of guy and Tony's going to have to work for what he wants this time.
Review: This is the kind of fic that warms you all over and makes you smile non stop. It has so many elements I love in fic: cute flirting, clever banter, hot sex, soft domesticity, boys being reasonable and talking their problems out for a change. If youâre looking for something light, sweet and honest, this series is a must read!

Hot takes galore 2:Â A brief overview of fandom backlashes that influenced fanfiction writing traditions as I have personally experienced them.
In this segment we examine...THE INDOMITABLE MARY SUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, as I was entering fandom in 2008 (Bleach, a manga by Kubo Tite), the hottest, sweattiest discourse pertained perhaps to Mary Sues. I thought the hatred of Mary Sues had completed its cycle and it was dead and gone in our days, BUT I happened upon a post that said that we are all stanning Moxiang Tongxiuâs OCs (original characters), in a sort of admonishing tone, and I couldnât help but smile.
For back in the day, OCs, were termed self-inserts at best, and if they were a female protagonist that would sideline the canonical cast of characters then they were Mary Sues. And there were as many people hating original characters, and Mary Sues in particular that I remember sitting up all night thinking on whether I should post or not this fic that had some OCs in it that were there to just deliver some messages.
And of course this bled into accusations of writing canonical characters as basically âoriginal charactersâ or âself-insertsâ, by use of the term âoocâ (out of character). Personally, I thought this was over, but recently Riri accused me of disregarding the existing characterization and turning the CQL characters into my own original characters...for KINKY HAVOC IN VOLCANO PALACE!
An unjust accusation, I feel, Riri, because I do my damnedest to maintain characterization even under the wildest circumstances.Â
People were looking to extend their enjoyment of the existing characters and story, and for some reason fanfic authors could come under fire for not catering to that, and writing for their personal self-fulfillment.Â
And there were as many people writing ocâs and Mary Sues as there were people hating them, and the writers for it. It was chaos, there were journals (i was in livejournal) devoted to roasting mary sues, laughing at authors etc. If you came in fandom after me, you live in much much gentler times, and perhaps you have the Mary Sue to thank for that, because the Mary Sue kickstarted a lot of fandom feminist discourse.
Back in the day they usually determined âMary Sueâ as an overpowered, female character, whom everyone loved even though she might not be particularly charming (by whose standards?), who was adept at everything, knew everything, felt everything etc.Â
The thing is that Mary Sues did not seem to exist only in fanfiction, but everywhere around us, whenever there would be a project film/show/comic/book that had a strong female protagonist.
And that was because fandom and male nerd culture were intertwined. Anime, games, comic books were heavily âinvadedâ by swaths of girls who were not quite fulfilled by corny pop stars, or saccharine rom coms, and seeing that there were no female power fantasies available in these media, they created their own.
It was a very interesting time because if you remember, Marvel Movies started getting made around that time, riding on that convention power, which was dominated by male nerd culture - and that is why they gave so little screen time to female characters, because the demographic was pretty thoroughly examined and they were found to dislike any and every female character that was not there to validate the male characterâs cishetero sexuality (YEAH BABY)
I mean women, actresses, female characters had a good portion in media, and the marvel cinematic universe and its imitators pretty much sidelined all these people very aggressively. Male stories started exploding and taking over during this time, exploiting that very vocal male nerd demographic.Â
But where is the backlash you ask, because so far weâve only seen the oppression.Â
I saw a lot of writers struggle with the validity of the female character, and then the validity of female writing. They conflated writing female characters, as writing without examining themselves, or attaining a neutral voice and a role of representing accurately reality (lol). Writing Mary Sues was bad writing, and at some point all women were Mary Sues.
...So can you guess what happened?
A lot of these people turned to male slash in order to cope. Before the Mary Sue hate, male slash was a considerable but not dominant piece on the fanfic pie, which was mostly dominated by main het ships. Male slash was already enjoyed by female heterosexual audiences, but it started gaining more and more traction until a term was coined (shipping goggles), and accusations were once more flung: that fangirls will ship any two white dudes - not untrue.Â
This audience was not very friendly to actual gay people. There were all sorts of strange views passing before my bespectacled eyes at the time. People proclaiming that they loved yaoi (i was in manga, so this was the term used), but would not watch gay porn, and thought gay people were gross. And in the case where gay people were in fandom these people often complained of not being included/invited in fandom activities, or having minimal readership from groups that promoted male slash, but not gay writers.
This is why I often say fandom is not a friendly place for lgbtq people, because this type of audience still exists, even if it had to suppress their discomfort and assimilate the rhetoric of allyship at some point. And sadly a lot of people who dominated these early discussions about fandom becoming more lgbtq friendly since it consumed such relationships in media, managed to set this climate of dishonesty where everyone is pro-lgbtq in theory, but not in action.
Meaning a lot of stereotyping that is not endemic to actual lgbtq communities. Like top-bottom (most people are verses), whiny bottom, subby bottom, violent top, aggressive sex, hypersexual gay characters, almost complete erasure of bisexuality, lesbians what are they?, a complete and absolute fear in portraying trans characters, suppression of genderfluidity, accusing people of writing male gay characters as female characters as a form of wish-fulfillment or supposed homophobia.
A while ago I saw this article asking why lgbtq people are so mean to each other that confused me thoroughly, until I remembered this call out phase that happened a while ago and still goes on, where everyone blames everyone else of abusing and gaslighting them, friendships falling out etc, which is not at all the reality of older lgbtq scenes, because these were not formed online under this climate.Â
And because fandom is a vehicle for self-exploration a lot of people to this day conflate consuming lgbtq relationships through media as being lgbtq themselves, or these âactualâ relationships being set as these other fictional âidealizedâ relationships. Whereas in older lgbtq scenes a lot of people come into them by realizing their attraction to actual, real, live people and not characters, or hot celebrities.
I am not saying that current lgbtq people who discovered that about themselves online are lying, or lying to themselves, but they definitely came out in an environment of fake acceptance, and have a hard time reconciling reality with that lie of acceptance through no fault of their own, of course, because they never developed the language and the understanding that language brings in order to communicate amongst them. The characteristics were set by a group outside of them that might be pro gay marriage, and having a cool gay friend, and the inherent tragedy of homosexuality or something, but are not really for it - as a very wise queer eye contestant once said.Â
And so every trespass by their own people, becomes a proof of this generalized rejection with tremendous consequences for young peopleâs mental health. YOU ARE BEING GASLIT ITâS TRUE - but not by your own people, itâs just a miscommunication going on there.  Â
BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MARY SUE. She changed. She stopped seeking love, sex, and power, or at least pretended that she did not want any of these things, or did not understand them, she stopped speaking, and became more stoic so people wouldnât judge her opinions, and finally one day she went on to accomplish great things, because women seeking representation was also a pretty set demographic, and somebody could and would exploit that!
The Twilight Saga, Fifty Shades of Grey, even Hunger Games, are the media progeny of the Mary Sue powering through the entirely of male nerd culture. In a whole decade where people wanted Marvel to release a Black Widow movie, there have been three major spy/action girl movies that did very well in the box office, and since producing and releasing a movie usually takes three years, iâd say the audience was heard loud and clear - even though not by Marvel.Â
And the side girls in these Marvel movies, or other action movies, became more and more badass - they all went from damsel in distress, to saving the hero, and of course the male characters were subsequently âqueer-ifiedâ until everyone was finally happy, and nerd culture was exposed as having been infiltrated by neonazis and thatâs why it was making those unreasonable demands for no women ever in the first place.
And everything was right in the world, except that it was not. Because...girls had also been infiltrated by âneonazisâ. A lot of these media, and a lot of these âwhiteâ Mary Sues, fall under many conservative criteria. Conservatism being a nice word for fascism.Â
A few examples is the person of color always dies, or is brutalized, or is admonished constantly even as they shadow the protagonist in order to reinforce their inherent radiance. Characters who might be poc in books or in the anime (hur hur), are whitewashed in the visual media. The women are almost never comfortable with sex or romance, always thinking about the future and amassing power, not for themselves, but for the benefit of the resistance, or the family, or any other entity they belong to. And of course they are forever incredibly flawed - as opposed to idealized versions of male heroes always on the side of good for the right reasons! Also a minimal cast of women, with one woman being the protagonist, and the rest functioning as side characters or mostly antagonists.
So every time you feel a slight trepidation for not being the right type of lgbtq for writing something that is not strictly anal, or fear to include feminine characters, every time you erase yourself from the narrative it is it, the spectre of the Mary Sue coming to haunt you with a âWe won, what more do you want?â Â

Ahh I'm watching a video on atla and the shithole that was the film adaptation and he keeps bringing up lotr and how those films adapt the books and I'm !!! AHAAA My favourite films being brought up as "THIS IS GOOD" ;))) Yes it is, it's my favourite. Ahh now I miss zuko
OO V relavent to bnha. The single worse thing you can do to critic someones writing "[if the critic tries] to make your story into one they would write, rather than a better version of the story you want to write" GOD IF THAT ISN'T HALF THE BNHA FANDOM
I think these are the same person. My apologies if they aren't!
I try not to remember the "film adaptation" of AtLA exists. I went to see that in theaters and I have never before or since actually wanted my money back it was so bad, I could even tell as a younger teen. They got virtually nothing that mattered correct and completely missed the spirit of the series. Really hoping the Netflix adaptation doesn't flop, either, but we might not have Netflix in our house by the time that happens so... đ¤ˇââď¸
It does crack me up, though, that the Ember Island Players still have the best worst adaptation of the story so far. Part of me is hoping the streak continues just for the meme.
The LoTR is legitimately a slow-moving set of movies, but it's well loved for a reason. It takes its time and sets up the world and confrontations and lets them play out with the timing those worlds and characters demand with a core theme in the middle the author has meticulously and lovingly crafted and wants to talk about. For Tolkien, it was how the ravages of war and time erode away hope and history, but hope and love can be found in those willing to leave their comforts to come alongside and protect their friends in the face of uncertainty and fear and never be the same, if they ever even return.
That's one of the reasons I've really enjoyed BNHA up to this point. When I say I'm a veteran Hawks stan, I mean I've been here from BEFORE day 1 some three years ago when Shinsou was my #1 favorite (he's still high up there, I'm so excited to see my boy again in the anime). I watched the long, drawn-out plot it took to get to this point and strictly sticking to the story itself and none of the fandom drama, it's been amazing! But I have also had to wait for it.
Horikoshi knows the story he wants to tell, and his style is to meticulously set up interactions and details long ahead of time which does mean a lot of waiting as the audience, but the payoff has just about always been worth it. He's been better at some things than others, but even just taking Bakugo and Deku's complicated, building relationship as an example has been so satisfying and engaging to watch as they naturally work through the complicated mess in themselves first and then with each other, adding on the complexities of new developments they pick up along the way and integrating those new struggles in so well.
Sure, there are things I want to see in canon, but at this point I think most of those are rooted in the story he's already in the process of telling. Things like Thief Takami I kind of knew we weren't going to get despite the hype and how much I loved the AU, but I was ultimately much more satisfied with where Horikoshi chose to put the focus on Tomie instead of Takami and what that meant for Hawks' character. Not only did it break conventions within the series as this legacy of children paying for their fathers' sins, but it felt like it was so uniquely Hawks' history with just how much sense it made that it would stay with him for so long and fit with the pieces of information we knew had more to it but we didn't know what.
I only have difficulty waiting for this story because it's so good and I want more. I love the discussions that try to pick apart and figure out what happens next, but I haven't found the attitude of, "This MUST become canon!" to be very productive or satisfying in the long run simply because of when I'm pleasantly surprised like that.
