LoZ: LU - The Chain in the Depths
I just had a thought. How would the Links react to the Depths?
Like, my theory is that it's actually what remains of old Hyrule from before BotW/TotK.
By that, I mean that the Deku Tree did what he said that he would in WW by using trees to reconnect the islands, which is what makes it possible for the Era of the Wild to be at the end of all 3 timelines. This is supported by how there are so many massive roots all over the place. As well as the fact that the map inside the Forgotten Temple shows that there'd been more water in Central Hyrule during Rauru's time.
But, specifically, how would the rest of the Chain react to the sheer amount of Poe Souls, the Shadow Soldiers, whether they all can see the Poe Souls & Shadow Soldiers (because, remember, apparently not everyone can according to a Yiga journal & the only entities to really make mention of the Poe Souls are the Bargainers), the Bargainers themselves, seeing the Heart Island with the green poe & the pink poe, & the Blupee Burrow?
Not to mention the implication that at least some of the Poe Souls belonged to people who died during the Calamity based on the Ancient Underground Fortress in Akkala. Also, how the triple stone mounds seem to correlate with monuments meant to honor & remember soldiers who died fighting the Calamity. All being at what appeared to be places where great battles took place.
I remember a fic suggesting that the Poe Souls were the souls of people who'd died excavating the Zonaite for the Zonai. However, the thing is that while I could see that being the case for a few of them, I don't think that's the whole story.
I think that the Depths are something of a liminal space where the dead of Hyrule just gather before moving on & that it has become a reflection of the Surface. "As above, so below" & all that. This is supported by, as mentioned before, the state of the Ancient Underground Fortress in Akkala.
This liminality can be partially attributed to having been saturated with magical water for millennia before the Zonai drained it.
And the "as above, so below" phenomenon could be due to the fact that in the Downfall & Child Timelines, Hyrule was lower in elevation while the Hyrule that the Deku Tree would've recreated would obviously have been at a much higher elevation. And when whatever it was that supposedly merged the 3 timelines back together (*cough*War of Ages*cough*) took place, plus the land beneath being saturated with magic, could've intrinsically linked the Surface with the Depths in a way that one simply doesn't see anywhere else. (Not that this is the case, but it's a possibility, I believe.)
And if this is the case, then it'd still allow for landmarks from previous games to appear on the Surface.
It's also possible that what actually fasilitated the merge in the first place was that the War of Ages allowed for things from all 3 timelines to also exist in the other 2, which may have allowed them all to create an inevitable outcome: The Era of the Wild. And once all 3 had a major enough event in common, it allowed for the merge to solidify. (But that's honestly little more than hairbrained speculation on my part.)
However, if this is the case, then it's possible that Ganondorf returning in the Adult Timeline could've simply been a very convenient excuse to cause the Great Flood which would've been a linchpin in allowing for the merge to happen at all.
Hell, it's even possible that had this perceived merge not taken place, then perhaps there wouldn't have been an Era of the Wild. Or a Wild, for that matter.
Also something to note is that we don't know how the Depths looked before the Zonai arrived, nor do we know how they looked during Rauru's reign.
Either way, I'd very much like to see someone go into this. Possibly even with Spirit in the Chain.
There's theories that he'd have what amounts to the Mind's Eye unlocked from birth. And I personally hc that the Spirit Train is used to transport the souls of the dead to the afterlife in New Hyrule, so if no one else, I def think that he'd be able to see them all. Possibly even better than Wild.
May even be able to talk to them & the Shadow Soldiers. Or just hear their final wishes if nothing else.
Fudge... imagine Wild learning that one of those Shadow Soldiers was the shade of his father desperately trying to do whatever he can to help his son... Aaaangst...
I believe this is concept art of them.
And imagine the shame of still not remembering him or the sister he once had.
Or, if he does end up getting his memories of them back & breaks down at the realization that he'd failed them. Obviously, it wasn't his fault, but let's be real here. Wild would absolutely take it that way. And imagine how much Wind would try to sympathize with him, but Wild might not appreciate it because Wind, at the very least, had been able to save his sister. Wild had failed his. (I know that it's implied that Wild's family had lived in the Hateno House.
And imagine the shock & fragile hope of learning that last his father knew, his sister was still alive & that this meant Wild might have nieces & nephews.
And now suddenly he feels so very small & strangely desperate to have just one more connection to the life he once had. Because he might not have been the same man as he was & he may even be happier now, but that does not mean that his old life was bereft of joy & love.
Perhaps, he wants a little bit of that love back. Even if only in second-hand stories of the family he hadn't quite realized until this exact moment that he lost.
Just one more thing that the Calamity pilfered from his grasp.
Or perhaps she's still alive, just incredibly old & weak & unable to even get out of bed anymore.
I also hc that FD is the Hyrulean god of death (among other things) & that the Bargainer's Statues are basically very early depictions of him.
That he created the Sheikah, who were tasked with helping the dead to move on & were once the ones who brought the Poe Souls to the Bargainer Statues in the Depths, specifically those who've trained their mind's eye. However, that has obviously changed.
Something else that I'm not sure I've seen. Time & Wind interacting with Wild's Deku Tree.
If anyone has info on the timeline & the order of the Links, it'd be him.

💚 🤍 💔 🏳️🌈 💀
(Sorry im sending so many 😭 i just really want to hear your opinion on a lot of things)
Long answers so putting them under 'keep reading' for the sake of yall's dashboards.
💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?
Mmmmm. I'm gonna pick two and cheat cause I have feelings on how both are written.
First, Mipha. Like you and other mutuals, when it comes to Mipha, we all are on the same page of just how bland and weak she is written or seen by others in the fandom.
That her crush on Link gets in the way (it doesn't. Yes she loves him, but her love of him never overtakes her duties). That she only cares about Link (no she cares for all the people in the Domain and Link and is selfless to a fault, one of her intended flaws). That she is not partially adept (her spearmanship is described being a league of her own). It just culminates into all of these weird mix of Mipha becoming a bland side character when she really is not. Yes is some of her canon writing a bit shallow? Absolutely. But that's true for all of the Champions. And yet Urbosa and Revali get more love and deserved writing in the fandom, leaving Mipha and Daruk in the dust.
As for the other character? Garrus Vakarian. I love my boy. I love me one space dino. but PLEASE fandom you all need to course correct how you write him. Garrus is Shepard's best friend, no matter if they are in a relationship or not. Also, Garrus is protective of Shepard, but not overprotective to the point of smothering. Yeah the party shenanigans with him and Zaeed talking about defensive parameters for Shepard is great and funny, but some have him way overprotective of Shepard to the point of getting in her way. Shepard can take care of herself. Garrus knows this. And he steps in only when he knows he should. Also....Garrus isn't as suave as you think he is. All that bravado is to hide his self-depreciation and yall gotta remember that. Temper that badassery with some good old depression and PTSD cause that's Garrus for you.
🤍: Which character is not as morally bad as everyone else seems to think?
That's a hard one. Rhoam? Yeah he's a shit father and yeah could he have treated Zelda better? Absolutely. Pretentious to think all the races will drop everything to give their best people, or in the case of Urbosa and Mipha, ruler/heir? No doubt. There's no if and or buts there.
But keep in mind. Hyrule's fate was residing on him. On Zelda's sealing powers. On him excavating the entire regions, finding the divine beasts, organizing the Sheikah with the Guardians, raising an army, diplomatically asking for help from the other races...all while trying to run a kingdom. The stress got to him, and he did what he did because partly he thought he was right, but mostly he was, I feel, nervous and scared. Everything was riding on his and his daughter's success, and he took his frustration out on his failure. Does that make him morally bad? Yeah. But it doesn't make him an outright villain or asshole as everyone likes to dunk on him for.
Rhoam to me is more of an anti-hero. His ultimate end goal is the salvation of Hyrule, but his methods to get there, while noble, are questionable when dealing with people themselves.
💔: If you had to remove one major character from the series, who would you choose?
Ganondorf. I'm sorry, I love him, but I actually think his repeated presence in Legend of Zelda severely limits the creativity and storytelling behind the LoZ franchise. I could even throw in the argument of Link and Zelda as well. The one thing I will never forgive SS for was the Curse of Demise. That shit right there? Ruined the series to come. We can no longer get a new BBEG without Ganondorf either being directly or indirectly involved in the story. Like look, I love games that took either a different take on Ganon before the whole Demise curse, or after by distancing it in some way. Look at TP, BoTW, and MM. Zant being controlled by Ganondorf, a Calamity born of his hatred, and no Ganon involved.
Now granted, WW is probably one of my favorite takes on Ganondorf, but that's because he was given a little bit more humanity alongside his evilness. That he is a 'person' and despite that, still evil.
And even still, I would argue, by having Gandondorf as the same villain over and over you are just re-hashing the same story with the same characters, the same old Good vs Evil plot of Hylia vs Demise just in a different era. And while the gameplay may be great for future games,. at some point, there will be a breaking point for the story. ToTk a prime example.
🏳️🌈: Which character who is commonly headcanoned as queer doesn't seem queer to you?
Sidon? And yeah I'm gonna toss in Revali there too. I just don't see them as queer. And that's not cause I'm straight either.
I just..I don't know I don't even see Sidon as being romantically involved with anyone (I am still choosing to completely ignore any and all ToTK Canon). And if he is? I don't know who I'd ship him with or who his partner would be? Am I currently in the middle of writing a Sidbazz wip as part of my miphlink modern AU? Yeah. Still, I don't really headcanon him myself as queer. It's a fluid concept for me...whatever fits the story I'm writing best.
As for Revali, I ship him with his own ego.
💀: If you had to choose one major character to die, who would you choose?
BoTW Zelda. She should have died at the end of BoTW. Here's my reasoning.
She should have died alongside the other Champions. The last relics of the past, leaving an amnesiac Link with barely any memories to make a new life in a land he has come to slowly recognize as the world he lives in now, and not the past. It's how I initially hoped BoTW was going to do. That we encounter Zelda's spirit at the end of the story, her last act to hold the Calamity back in enough time for Link to finish the job.
Now I know Nintendo would never even fathom something like this. Can't kill off your precious Zelda and piss off all the Zelda/Zelink fans. but narratively I think it would have made for a great bittersweet ending. And would have made for a better sequel as well.

Okay The Dark™ has intrigued me, enlighten me my friend ~
Ooooh so this one is a bit harder to talk about because it is in my wips, but it's not really a story ! It kind of gathers all of my ideas around Dark Link and how I present him in my fics. It's a lot of vibes, and some things that I thought way too much about njfenjejnejez
So here's the gist of it :
- Dark Link isn't one specific Link's shadow. I like the headcanon that he is Time's, but here, he is more of a dark reflection of the Hero's Spirit as a whole.
- This idea is kind of weird (and hard to grasp), but he's both younger and older than every hero. He started to exist recently, but he kind of exists outside of time and space's borders. He has witnessed every hero's quest and knows where his predecessors failed.
- He can change his appearance to look like the heroes, and also to look like a "dark version" of them. And when he does that, depending on who's face he's wearing, he has fun lil powers !
I'm not a 100% sure for these powers, because some of them aren't really related to the hero... Some of them are there as a placeholder until I have a better idea (unless I don't dskkskdkdskds)
But for now, here's what I have :
Four : clones (like Shadow Link do in some of his battles, but also in reference to the Four Sword of course)
Sky : lightnings (like Demise & Sky during the final battle)
Hyrule : puppetering, as in taking control of his adversary for a little time (not really a reference, but since Hyrule has the most magic out of them all I wanted Dark Link to take his face for something a little overpowered lmao)
Legend : mind diving (kind of a reference to Link's awakening in that you spend a lot of time in Legend's head ? I'm not sure about this one)
Twilight : portals, like teleportation (like the way you warp in game)
And for the last four ones, elemental magic
Wind : wind power (it seemed obvious, also one of Wind's power in game)
Warriors : fire (because war -> violence -> fire, but also Volga)
Wild : water (kind of a reference to the shrine of resurrection and Mipha's powers, but also very much a placeholder)
Time : earth/plants ? (because Kokiri forest ? Definitely a placeholder)
I know it would be criminal to not give Time, well, time-based powers, but it felt weird to have only three element out of four ? But also maybe earth would fit Wild more. I have to think about it, up until now when I tried to write fights I avoided using these powers at all fgjkjfdkfdkf
And now that I'm laying this down, I see that I had a pretty good theme of using the villain's powers in game and I just... Kind of dropped it ? Like Demise, Shadow, Volga, and then Time's here with plants lmao
I have to think more about it ! But as you can see, the goal is to have Dark Link be the worst threat every heroes have faced.
- One thing that I like to use is the fact that Dark Link is "fueled" by negative feelings. The more tension there is within the Chain, the more powerful he is.
In the dreaded "Bitch are u okay" wip that I talked about earlier, he more specifically feeds off of "the hatred of a hero for a hero/the hero's spirit". Which means, if two Links hate each other, that's nice for him, but if someone hates themselves, that's perfect as well !
And, as I put it in my notes and made myself snort re-reading them, "he can be nerfed by the power of ✨therapy✨". Which means, if the heroes are honest with each other and a good team, he'll be less powerful. But he knows that and they don't :0 so he'll try to turn them against each other !
- Last but not least, I referred to him as "he" in all this post for clarity, but in most of my wips he has pronouns 💅!
Mostly 'it', sometimes 'they' and sometimes 'he' !
Basically, I used him when I need a powerful antagonist, for fights but also in fics that are more centered around feelings and stuff ! He is both an amalgamation of the worst things in LoZ's bad guys, and occasionally, a (not really well hidden) representation of mental illness.
It's been a while since I've written anything with those ideas though, but seeing them written down makes me want a Dark Link come back in my stories lmao

some nattering about how I characterize Rauru and Sonia in my Ganondorf/Rauru fics.
as I have mentioned before, usually I prefer to adhere strictly to canon when writing fanfiction, to the extent that I used to think of myself as trying to write exactly what the author had in mind but didn't put in the story. yes, I have always been this pretentious.
but then I looked at what Rauru and Ganondorf have going on and went "ah, they need to have nasty, resentful, dubcon-at-best sex about this" and I'll be honest I'm not sure played-straight loz characters (vs. various permutations of joke characters) are even allowed to know sex exists, so this was obviously a departure.
which means that Questions of Kingship exists, in my mind at least, in a strange space that is both canon-compliant and AU, and I have made characterization choices based on the story I was telling rather than prioritizing sticking to what the game has in mind. And I don't think my readings are entirely wrong--do I think Nintendo intends their King of Light to be a rapist, no, but they sure did write a guy who disregards and tramples over an implicit "no." This is what is conveyed by Ganondorf mentioning that Hyrule has sent the Gerudo repeated invitations! I didn't actually make that part up! Honestly I expected to have to defend my choices re: Rauru from some very irritated fans who forgot about the back button, but it seems that if I irritated anyone, they remembered the back button. Good for them, and to everyone pressing the "more of this" buttons instead, thank you, I appreciate you, what the fuck is UP with this guy amirite??
Anyway though,
Sonia.
Oh, I have struggled with Sonia mightily. I did not want Rauru to be cheating on her. And partially this is because I don't particularly care to write about cheating but largely it is because a huge part of Rauru's sense of superiority over Ganondorf is a moral one, and if Rauru were betraying someone he loved to carry out this affair, that sense of superiority would be chopped off at the knees. And I'm using that sense of superiority, thank you very much.
So: it became the case that Sonia needed to know about the affair, needed her to be on board with it. And well, there were very quickly quite a lot of jokes that she and Rauru had "looking for a third" vibes, and I do think that's true, and anyway that girl married a goat god. "A very canny monsterfucker" is the kernel of canon characterization that I wound up building around. Very clear-eyed, less self-deception than Rauru; an overpowering propensity to identify what she wants and go for it. It's just that Zelda didn't see much of that. I guess, is the argument I'm going for. Well, then, Sonia is someone who can play at sweet and harmless and kind until she reveals how much of an edge she has.
Does the game suggest she has such an edge? ...No? I guess it doesn't. I don't know. But if it is not possible to hide anything from Sonia, and Hyrule is behaving coercively towards its not-yet-allies (and it is! again I did not make that part up!), then she must be aware of this. And she must be on board with it. She adores Rauru--this is clear in the cutscenes, just look at the light in her eyes when Rauru is speaking sometimes--and so I make the two of them a team, united in intention. But where I write Rauru as conflicted--naive thoughts about kingship stumbling against the reality of it--I place Sonia in a more decided position. Her premises: that Rauru is good, and that a unified Hyrule is a superior outcome over disparate nations. She is aware that the latter premise is not automatically accepted by everyone, but she has unwavering faith in it so she moves to carry it out without the indignation that resistance inspires in Rauru. Resistance does not make her doubt herself in the same way. (That's worse??) She is more pointedly, more cannily political than Rauru. Rauru wants a kingdom united in friendship (genuinely he wants this, as I write him); Sonia knows that friendship is not what unites kingdoms.
She just... winds up with this strange amoral core to her. A surprising one, I think. What I find myself writing is a Sonia who seems kind and sweet and confident and only very occasionally lets anyone see the part of her where she has made up her mind and is unmovably certain of her own rightness. A part of her that doesn't need it to be a moral rightness. Am I making any sense here.
I mean for some of that startling strangeness to come out in the way she regards Rauru's relationship with Ganondorf--I don't know if that comes through. I write Ganondorf conflating Rauru's sexual submission with political submission to excess; Sonia is almost the opposite, believing that the relationship between the two can exist as a function of desire alone regardless of the political dimension. It's about wanting and having and that is all. But the very assumption that that's all comes from the position of Hyrule's dominance, an unassailable position in her mind. I'm having trouble getting at what I'm getting at, but, my point here is that she's a little scary. that's all.
@toushindai
#tou and the tearful kingdom#and we were both kings 😳#rape mention#ya I think I'm gonna make this one unrebloggable bc this really is entirely about how I write her in the environment I need her in#I get fidgety when my posts about my fics go wandering into the totk cr*tical corner of this blue hell#oh it's work time I have to do work now#may edit this later. gotta go

tng night SIGH number four. tonight's eps were uhhh [checks] "lonely among us" and "justice." verdict: idk, i kept getting bored and looking at my phone
"lonely among us" was about a little electric thing that kept hopping bodies. this was initially kind of fun, if stupid, because it seemed SO OBVIOUS that crusher should report missing time right away and she just didn't lol
i do like that deanna finally got something to do (hypnotizing them) but it just made me remember that in tos they werent allowed to do that and this hypnotism could have been an email (vulcan mind meld). i'll get there. i just miss him.
the aliens who wanted to eat live animals were like. unfunny. especially when menacing tasha yar. idk, she always looks incredibly tense and it's starting to make me feel bad for her. she seems to hate everything. poor ms whoever is playing her
data's bit with the sherlock pipe was kinda cringe but i love him anyway. i was VERY mad when picard told him to knock it off. you're stopping him from stimming!!! leave him alone!!! also, in the next episode, he got onto him about babbling and watching data shut down in response was SOOO sad jail for picard for ONE THOUSAND YEARS im glad his ass apologized
unfortunately during the middle of the pipe thing is when i found out about the loz movie via destiel meme (ep was boring i was looking at my phone sorry) so i ruined the best part of the episode for myself
i am coming to understand that generally speaking data is the best part of any given tng episode <3
there was a moment in this episode where wesley was once again right and told to buzz off. in the next episode he does something stupid and they spend the entire time defending him. i DONT understand why it always has to be like this. i don't even dislike wesley, i just dislike the way the other characters are written is reponse to him. he's like the theo teenwolf of tng (dont get me started)
big moment in this ep was the potential mutiny. once again it's too early for this shit. i wanted some episodes where they explore planets and fight some guys (like the ferengi ep!) before we did anything deep. i bet if this happened in like seasons 3-5 i'd be beside myself about it the way i was when it almost happened in tos. but i don't like some of these guys yet, let alone care deeply about them (except data, who is my best friend).
next ep: The Sex Planet. once again, it is inappropriate to be having children on a starship, but it is especially inappropriate to send your fifteen year old """honorary""" """""ensign"""""" down to a planet that you don't know anything about except how they LOVE to fuck. the greeting party literally didn't even know what to do with him if they couldn't feel him up. he had to explain in 1987 hays code that he was a fucking virgin. maybe some research besides "they love to fuck here" would have helped with this situation but also "let's not send the 15yo to the brothel planet" would be a good line of thought too???
anyway he breaks the law has to die and theyre twisting themselves into knots over the prime directive and the setup was ACTUALLY almost interesting except they just beamed away with him in the end without finding a third option, which they could have done like 20 minutes in. also, if theyre trying not to break the prime directive, why are they allowed to tell the aliens they're from space and beam one aboard their ship? like, i actually love ethical questions posed by the prime directive, so this episode is cool on paper, but the execution flopped
oh i nearly forgot worf was bragging about his prowess in bed and how he was too much for weak human partners and riker looked SO intrigued which was like the funniest fucking thing. good for both of them. also it was androidphobia that they didn't let data go to that planet to get laid
anyway, as of now, i have been OFFICIALLY DITCHED. catherine maulthots has decided to let me do s1 and s2 of tng on my OWN and then show her the relevant ones so it's time to watch this shit on 2x speed until i hit the good parts

My #1 post of 2022
Do y'all think Ganondorf accidentally said anything sweetnamed to his two loyal servants, Zant and Ghirahim?
I like to think that because he was raised with many female Gerudo, he catched the female traits without a care in the world but hides it to continue an example of a fearsome demon king.
Ga: "Very well, seems like you both need some strict punishment upon your failures, darlings."
Za: "*blushing like tomatoes*"
Ghi: "I b-beg your pardon, master???"
Ga, realizing what he said: "No punishment for you if you keep your mouths shut about this little slip of the tounge-"
Ghi & Zant: "DEAL"

*stacks the bits and pieces of LoZ/LU canon into a rickety home-made bunk bed*
"Look at all this floor space! So much space! So many activities theories!"
Part 3 of Hyrule Rules, OK? aka The Scion of a Salty Veteran
Legend says he doesn't want to settle down, and obviously that's a valid decision for anyone to make, but it's particularly understandable for someone who is, what, 19 maybe? And used to a transient life.
He doesn't really answer Wild, just retorts with, "I'll be sure and remember that when I'm 117."
There's that bit in Hyrule Historia, though, which I've posted before and is gonna be my canon forever even though it says "may be" -
- along with this bit (ouch) -
- so here are my two thoughts.
Legend keeps travelling for a long time, for the sake of training and helping (maybe for the sake of atonement, shhh), but also for the sake of travelling, until he meets someone who makes him want to stay put in their country long enough to start a family. He either does settle down there, or he gets itchy feet and continues roaming with his family. Either way, that line leads to Link, the wandering Hero of Hyrule, who is not from Hyrule.
Alternatively, Legend is still the progenitor of Hyrule's lineage, but he never knows it. He's a rolling stone gathering no moss, oblivious to any offspring he produces in his wake because he never stays in one place. This kind of works better with the wording that Hyrule is thought to possibly be descended from Legend - something like, "I never knew my father/grandfather but my mother/grandmother said he was the Hylian Hero of Legend", etc.
I actually much prefer them all not being related, and I only grudgingly accept Time and Twilight because... they are. (I like my family tropes found, thanks very much.) The only reason I've become attached to Hyrule descending from Legend is that they don't seem to know it.
Or, maybe Hyrule kind of knows but isn't sure how to bring it up. Maybe he doesn't feel he can live up to Legend's legacy. (Legend has done... So Much.) Maybe he doesn't want Legend to worry about the fate of his progeny. Maybe, after all the generations, information being lost or fobbed off or destroyed, he just doesn't know.
Isn't it just.

It’s Time’s turn! I guess this can be regular loz since it can go both ways
Legend Twilight
—————————
When the Hero of Time walks out of the forest after his second adventure, he is twelve years old and bears the weight of the world on his shoulders. There is no voice at his side, no home to return to, and no shoulder to weep on.
Beneath his stunted, malnourished body a faithful horse carries him to all ends of the earth and grows with him in body and spirit. Sometimes they find a place to rest, a meal to share, a haven from enemies—and sometimes they don’t; a ragged, haunted child and a half-starved horse make people uncomfortable. But she stays, no matter what difficulty they face next, and that is something no one else has done.
The first time Link begrudgingly admitted that undoing time had some good consequences as well as bad was in Castle Town Market, standing before a decrepit stall with a tiny cage on the counter. Inside was a hunched reptile; young, alive, and innocent.
Link had never undone his wallet so fast. Within the dragon’s wide eyes he thought he saw a hint of recognition—but he shook his head and reminded himself that the past (the future, the present) was irrevocably, untouchably gone.
But the dragon is a powerful and magical species, created by the long-forgotten Hylia herself. Dragons are emissaries of the goddesses; inside them dwells the slumbering deity of their ancestors. Through some twist of (luck, fate, destiny) the friendship so fleetingly held in the future (the past, the present) was not forgotten by the creature that owed him such a debt.
...
“Link?”
And another creature joined him, another companion found again.
The foal became a lanky half-grown horse, the boy became a clumsy youth, the baby dragon became what was essentially an armored snake (none of them really knew how to deal with that). It was then that a fiery-haired farm girl squeezed her way into their small band, with eager encouragement from two and flustered discouragement from one.
Her compassion knew no bounds, and her stubbornness even less. Before he even knew it, Link was brushing Epona with her strong hands guiding his, perplexedly drinking the bottle of milk she had shoved into his hands, whispering broken secrets in the dead of night that he had never dared to speak of with another human being.
Years and years and years passed, and somehow, without understanding it, Malon became his everything. She gave him a home, she gave him peace, she gave him love, and the only thing he could do about it was love her as wonderfully and achingly as possible and hope that was enough. Somehow it was.
Their home (it was theirs, the life they’d built together) had a stall for Epona, a shed for Volvagia, bowls of sweetness for sister fairies, a warm cot and an open heart for those in need, and a lovingly hewn cradle tucked in the corner of their bedroom.
Their daughter was born on a clear fall night long away from her father’s last adventure, crickets heralding her arrival and crisp autumn air warded off by faded quilts. She had her mother’s hair and her father’s eyes, and Link cradled her downy head and tried to comprehend the miracle he held.
He knew peace for so many golden years, but before his daughter learned to ride, Hyrule was thrown into war. Zelda, his savior and his captor, begged him for aid, and though it had been years since he drove a sword into another living being, he donned the imposing armor she pressed to him and marched into battle. (He begged his best friends to stay at home. Though it pained him, it was his turn to do the leaving, and he didn’t know if he could stand letting them die in his stead.)
In the end, his vision faded to grim, welcoming darkness in the forests of his youth, and this time there was no high-pitched song to save him.
He waits in the space between, plagued by grief and regrets. He watches from afar as his daughter lives without him, as his wife lives without him, as his friends live without him.
The day Malon dies he tries so hard to cry.
The centuries blur together as he waits in the ether. The Sacred Realm calls him persistently, but he clings to the mortal realm with every fiber of his being. He left his family once, never again. But slowly, oh so slowly, his grip on mortality begins to slip, and his consciousness of the world begins to fade.
And then, as his enduring vigil finally seems to wane, he senses a new spirit, young and brimming with promise. He draws near, curious and excited but also half-frightened to death—a combination Link remembers well. He recognizes the burden this one carries, one that has never lifted from his own shoulders, and chooses to train the child so the terrible fate that accompanied his own journey will not touch the other’s.
The pup seeks him out all over the country, in the places that once held importance, and calls him from his slumber. Every time, Link rejoices silently that he may have the chance to see the young one again. Every time, he passes his knowledge (his skills, his strengths, his being) to the green warrior. Every time he sees him grow in stature, in resolve, in mettle, and he both rejoices and despairs.
One day (the last one) the boy stands before Link, with defiance in his eyes and steadiness in his hands. Link takes one look, one long last look at him, and realizes that he has Malon’s nose. And his hollow vision blurs for a moment, because this is proof, this is proof that his legacy survived, proof that he had an effect on the world and it’s standing right in front of him.
When he bids the boy goodbye (his child) he grips onto reality with all of his faded strength, and begs the Sacred Realm not yet, not yet please, I have to keep watch on him, and he holds on just long enough to see his young one mend his mistakes—
using the lessons he taught him.
And with this, when he finally knows that he did make a mark on the world, that he did leave good behind him, he smiles-
relaxes his grip-
and falls into the waiting arms of Nayru, borne away by the current to the realm of the goddess, and finally
finally
finally
he is at peace.

Flash From The Past ✩
Request: I have a request and I was asking if you cans do a ghost!Luke Patterson x alive!reader but she is older. Like in the 90s they were but then he died and she got older. But Julie had went through his journal or stuff and found a picture of them and he wrote a song like the Scene when he and Julie went to his parents house but the reader. I’m really bad at explaining things I just wanted to request an angst story please :) <3 Like a little of they’re romantic relationship and then show the aftermath of after he died and Julie kind a like confronts her with Luke like ep 8 <3
Warning: Angst, probably some grammar errors.
Word Count: 1,401
Song Used: “Somebody To You” By The Vamps
“Luke be careful your gonna hit the car in front!” I scolded him as were were entering the drive in movie parking lot. He dismissed me with a sway of his hand. “I’m an excellent driver love, no need to worry” He smiled at me before making an abrupt stop.
“LUKE!” I yelled at him. He just cheekily smiled at me and shrugged. “That’s his fault for going so slow then stopping not mine” I rolled my eyes. “Nothing ever your fault” I said. He looked at me after he finished parking. “You know it baby, I’m an angel” “Yea, yea, keep thinking that” I leaned forward and pecked his lips.
I stretched myself to the back seat to get the food and blankets we had brought and opened my door to get out of his truck. He also got out and slid the trunks small door down so we had space to lay down. We put the blankets and pillow where we wanted them and cuddled up to watch the movie.
After the movie was done I had my head on Luke’s shoulder, he rested his on top of mine. “I love you” I froze. That’s the first time he’s ever said that, I haven’t even said it yet. My eyes started to water and I lifted my head up to look at his eyes. “Yea?” I whispered. “Yea. I’m completely in love with you” he smiled at me. I leaned forward and kissed him like never before. The kiss lasted a few seconds before I pulled away. “I’m in love with you too” “Yea?” He whispered. “Yea.” I giggled and kissed him again.
“Shall we try this again?” Julie questioned from her keyboard looking towards the band. “Yes please. But remind us later there’s some Sunset Curve songs to show you.” Luke told Julie while standing up. Julie got intrigued and moved her mic to the side “Oh, show me now.” Luke nodded and went to reach for his song book next to him.
He looked at his notebook strangely. “Home is where my horse is?” He turned around “Reggie stop putting your country songs in my journal.” He side glanced at Reggie while throwing the paper out of his notebook into the guitar case. “That was a gift!” Reggie said offended. Luke rolled his eyes “thanks buddy.” He patted Reggie on the arm.
Luke turned back to Julie handing her his notebook. “I dog-eared the ones I think you would slay”. Julie started going through the pages until she reached a specific page that wasn’t dog- eared but caught her interest. “Somebody to you?” She questioned. Luke quickly got defensive. “That one isn’t dog- eared” he protested reaching for his notebook but Julie pulled it further away. “ “Look at me now I’m falling can’t even talk still stumbling” wow Luke I didn’t know you were such a romantic” she smirked at Luke. “That one is actually about-” Luke cut Alex off. “No one it’s about no one if you go to the next page there is one I think you’d like”. Julie dropped the subject since she saw Luke didn’t like talking about but she was still very interested.
Band practice couldn’t have gone worse Luke wasn’t focused after Julie mentioned the song. Y/N has been stuck in his head causing him to mess up. “Let’s take a break yea I’ll be back in an hour” Julie got up from her keyboard and walked out. “I’m out, gonna go hang with Willie” Alex disappeared. “Ima go see what Ray is up to” Reggie said and disappeared as well. Leaving Luke to entertain himself.
He couldn’t stop thinking about you. Where you married? Did you have kids? Did you move away? What happened after you found out he died? How did you cope with it?
Standing in front of the mirror making sure your outfit looked good you heard the house phone go off. You rushed downstairs and picked up the phone.
“Y/L/N Residence” you heard someone sniffle on the other side. “Y/N their gone” “Who’s gone?” you questioned. “Bobby talk to me! Who’s gone?” Panic started sinking in. “The boys they got food poisoning they’re dead Y/N” the phone fell from your hand and you dropped to your knees. You truly felt like you were dying. Tears where coming out of your eyes. The boys you have grown up with the love of your life was just taken away from you in a matter of hours. You were meant to see them preform tonight they weren’t supposed to go. Not yet. They were too young they had so much to live for.
It’s been two weeks you were invited to their funerals but you haven’t been able to leave your room yet. All you’ve done is cried until you fall asleep and repeat the same cycle everyday. Apart of you is missing and you don’t know if you’ll get through this. You’ve thrown everything that reminds you of them specially Luke in a box and told your mom to throw it away. (She didn’t throw it away) His shirts, guitar picks, hoodies, pictures, everything. You can’t bear it. It hurts a lot. Everything hurts. Your not gonna go to the funerals you can’t just stand there and get condolences from people who never really cared. You can’t pretend your ok.
“Julie you sure this is a good idea?” Luke questioned. They were on your doorstep. Julie had this great plan to give you a letter that she made Luke write for you. If you seemed stable enough she would tell you about her and the band. For now it was just the letter. The closure that you needed that you didn’t get back in 1995. Julie found you through your Instagram account apparently you became a photographer. One of her classmates is your son so he gave Julie the address. “I’m positive....um.. if it’s too much Luke you could go and I’ll tell you how it went.” Luke shook his head no I’m good” Julie nodded. She reached forward and ringed the doorbell.
You answered the door and Luke’s breath hitched as soon as he saw you. He wanted to step forward and hug you and apologize for what he might have put you through but he can’t. You look almost the same just as beautiful but time has aged you. You and Julie started talking. She explained how she had found this song and a letter written at the bottom of the song page addressed to you. So she decided to bring it over. As you read the song you kept it together no tears. Luke is someone you thought about each day since the moment he passed.
It’s been 8 years since Luke passed away you are now 25 and have been traveling the world. Staying in Loz Feliz only made you sad you started your photograph career and have been traveling here and there. You haven’t meet anyone nearly as good as Luke so your still single. You don’t know if it’s guilt or if your the only one holding yourself back from dating again but you always put it off and say that you don’t have time for that. Will you ever go back to California? You don’t know.
After reading the letter you thanked Julie and she walked away you closed the door and slid down against it finally letting go of the tears you’ve been holding back. Things possibly couldn’t get worse, you thought you’d move on find someone who was just as great as Luke but you didn’t, you married someone you didn’t love and ended up getting a divorce. Having a kid and moving back with your mom in Loz Feliz. You weren’t happy. This letter didn’t make matters better your even sadder now it was like a flash from the past. Knowing that you could have had a future with Luke made your heart ache. He was your person, no one else.
On the other side of the door Luke stood there completely shocked that you didn’t react at all to his letter. Did you move on? Did you even care about him anymore? Was he only now a distant memory? What he didn’t know was that you were crying on the other side.
He disappeared back into the studio thinking about you. Maybe in a different life.
Sorry this request took so long I have been extremely busy because I had to get surgery but I finished it now. Hope you like it :)

I'm working my way through all the Legend of Zelda games I can get my hands on. Oddly enough, it's Skyward Sword that got me invested in the rest of the series, haha. I played BotW and loved it, tried to play Link's Awakening and got frustrated so I quit, then I played Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and had fun just demolishing the enemies that used to kick my ass in botw, but still I wasn't like, invested in the series. Pretty much I just liked the botw stuff.
Then Skyward Sword HD came out and I went "sure why not?" Because I remember the game grumps hating it but I liked Sonic and the Black Knight for wii, and the switch has way better motion controls, so I figured I'd give it a go. (Plus I really wanted the themed joy-cons bc they're so pretty and it felt silly to get the joy-cons without having the actual game they're attached to.)
Anyways, I loved it. I don't see why people complain so much about the motion controls even on switch? I thought they were fine and I actually loved how engaging it made the combat, plus there's just an indescribable sort of joy involved in using the motion controls to draw the master sword and hold it over your head, okay? It's just fun.
Anyways, that's the first I guess 'standard' LoZ game I've played to completion. I got frustrated a few times with the puzzles, but I was invested enough to keep going until I figured it out. The final fight against Demise-Ganon had me cursing at my screen but when I finally beat him it was so satisfying, totally worth it imo.
And now that I have the story of the last Link (so far) and the first Link in the timeline, I'm curious enough about the space in between to take another shot at the other LoZ games I've given up on before. I just finished Ocarina of Time 3D, which was a lot easier than I remember now that I'm actually familiar with how a Zelda game is structured (basically find temple, solve puzzles, get new item, boss fight featuring new item, find the next temple-- ad nauseum).
I'm going into Hyrule Warriors: Definitive edition now (Warriors Link is so pretty haha, I see why people call him 'pretty boy' in LU fics/fanart lol). This is another game I tried before but I just wasn't invested enough in the characters to get into it? It also seemed too easy at the time, so I'm playing it on the higher difficulty, but I also know that if it's anything like Age of Calamity, it gives us a lot more story and interesting missions.
I have A Link Between Worlds to play next, assuming I can't get ahold of Majora's Mask for 3DS. Then I'll take another shot at Link's Awakening, I guess.
Any other suggestions for what I can play? I have a Switch and a 3DS, and my brother has a Wii but we don't have a Wii U.
Also, what I'm realizing about Legend of Zelda games, is that most of them are kinda like Fanfiction. They don't really do a good job of introducing their central Characters because they expect us to already recognize them. That's what's different about BotW and Skyward Sword; they do a really good job of setup, because for both of them, the hero is just as knowledgeless as the player. SS!Link knows nothing about great evil demons or the triforce, he's just a sleepyhead skyboy. They don't even have a kingdom yet, they just have a floating island with a school and some big-ass birds.
BotW does a GREAT job of introducing the world of Hyrule and everything in it because Link literally has no memories at the start of it. We learn everything that's going on as he does. And if you're interested in learning more, you can seek out his forgotten memories as an optional side quest. You don't have to, but you can if you're curious.
Comparatively, Age of Calamity relies heavily on you having played BotW, and the dramatic irony they can create from the player knowing one future as they help divert it from that path.
And Ocarina of Time doesn't really explain much about their characters. The Great Deku Tree's death is heartbreaking to me now, knowing that SS!Link planted him, and knowing the tree from BotW. But in OoT, it just kinda... happens? And didn't mean much of anything to me the first time I played the game. You know the Deku tree is supposed to be important, but not why. You see Zelda a grand total of one time before she runs away from the castle with Impa, and it's clearly supposed to be a dramatic scene, but we don't know her at all. Then Sheik shows up when you're an adult, shows up to teach you songs and then just leaves, and it's kinda clunky and doesn't really help us form an attachment to the character at all. Really, the only character besides link that is recurring enough and actually has speaking lines with personality is like... Navi, and maybe Malon, if you seek her out for Epona. Everyone else shows up like two or three times at most, and either has an instant crush on Link, or is just grateful for his help.
I enjoyed the game, playing it now, but I definitely had to care about the characters first-- I wouldn't have been able to get into this game if I wasn't already invested in Link's journey and kicking Ganon's ass.
So like, it suffers from fanfiction-syndrome, I think.
Anyways, this post is all over the place. Hope that made sense?

LoZ: TotK - Zonai Tech Oddity
I noticed something about a lot of the Zonai tech in the game.
A lot of it isn't really built to last.
Sure, the constructs & ruins & such, but the commonly-used devices & even the weapons are extremely fragile.
A Steward Construct even mentions that the devices are meant to be disposable. That they're this way by design.
As for the weapons, the descriptions have never brought up them being decayed... to my knowledge... So, it just seems like they're simply built flimsy.
Now, from a gameplay perspective, it makes perfect sense for them to break. They'd break the game otherwise. But from a narrative, worldbuilding standpoint it brings up questions about sustainability.
And I know, sustainability is brought up a lot these days & it's probably getting old for a lot of you, but I feel like it's apropos in this specific situation.
They basically mass produce devices that are designed to only work for a short time, not even a full day really, before breaking & I can't help but feel like that is a little concerning.
Admittedly, they disappear into the aether after being used up to it doesn't create trash, but it just doesn't seem sustainable. Like, how fast does this stuff form exactly?
Is it a flaw of Zonai engineering or a consequence of using Zonaite itself I wonder?
It'd certainly be interesting if Hylians just have a knack for long-lasting machinery & durable weaponry.
I mean, we know for a fact that Hyrule's weaponry are supposed to be all-but indestructible provided they're properly maintained, not overtaxed, & not covered in Gloom. Because, not only is that how most similar weapons IRL are, but before the Wild series, 99% of other weapons you get in the other games didn't break down really at all & that was through entire games. Hell, the Kokiri Sword stuck around for 2 full games, OoT & MM. Admittedly, it got replaced the 1st time, but it still stuck around for the long haul.
Like, there's the Biggoron Sword & the upgrade for the Kokiri Sword in Majora's Mask, but you eventually get an upgrade for the upgrade that makes it permanent & only the upgrade broke, not the sword itself. And, to be fair, the Biggoron Sword is of Goron make. (Though, that would indicate that Goron methods aren't as good as Hylian methods, which I honestly find very odd considering you'd think that the Gorons would be the equivalent to Hyrule's dwarves.)
So, this indicates that the method itself was still being perfected. If anything, these exceptions seem to prove the rule that weapons of Hylian/Sheikah make are extremely durable.
Not to mention, I just can't help but think that having your shit just randomly break over & over again & need to be replaced repeatedly, would not only be inconvenient, but downright infuriating! Especially when you're in the middle of something important!
Though... I suppose that the shortness of their use & the finality of their destruction when used up could also explain why Hyrule didn't seem to have paddleboats or trains or, fuck, space ships 10-20,000 years ago.
I mean, it's certainly one way to have advanced technology in your medieval fantasy setting while keeping it from going full sci-fi fantasy.
Edit: Also, it just occurred to me... How the fuck did the Gerudo not just get wiped the eff out? The Zonai must not've been as advanced as they seemed because have you SEEN some of the shit people have been building with their tech?
The Zonai had the tech necessary to make what would amount to mini divine beasts!! And anyone with the creativity to do so & the tenacity to figure out how the pieces go together could've done it!
They could've wiped the Gerudo off the face of the planet!
Sure, maybe they couldn't have killed Ganon so long as he had the Secret Stone, but at least there'd be no future Ganons to deal with other than the spite-fueled ghost of the one they were currently dealing with.
I'm saying this from a theoretical military standpoint, not because I actually would've wanted them to, mind.
And, obviously, this would've had it's own consequences if they did. For instance, the Sage of Lightning would've likely sworn vengeance, but that's not the point.
The point is, they could've decimated Ganon's armies like they were nothing.
That scene where Rauru Tri-Beam Cannoned the Molduga with the help of Wifey & Zelda?
Epic, but entirely unnecessary.
He could've had a mobile hot air balloon with cannons pointed down take the Molduga out & he might not've incited Ganon to kill Sonia & steal her stone.
Or at least put it off a bit longer.
Like, despite the shortness of the Zonai Devices' life expectancies, they were Hella powerful when you used them correctly.

I seem to have acquired a WIP folder
This is a new thing for me. Normally it's single mindedly working on one story and then waiting for the next idea to hit.
I seem to have forgotten what it's like to get into a new fandom where the ideas are coming faster than I can write them XD
Current list of things in various states of undress being written - all legend of zelda fic...:
Soulmate AU (link/sidon) - status: on hold, missing plot ideas/plot holes the size of small planets.
Operation get Bazz laid (link/sidon/bazz) - status: Currently working on this. Should have been roughly 10-15K. Sits now at 30K and should hopefully be done within another 10/15K *cries*. Explanation: plot fucking snuck into the equation!
Return to Eventide (link/sidon) post-canon - status: ideas aplenty so just queued up to be written.
Snippets and smaller stories connected to the Buck Stops here (space AU). Just a very airy ideas folder.
Running Link ragged (link/sidon) - status: just a bunch of ideas, but shouldn't be a behemoth unlike the above 3some XD (I hope!)
Prisoner of the Devine Beast (link/sidon) canon-divergent - status: solid idea, some plot has been plotted, more to be done.
Law & Order (link/sidon) modern day-ish AU involving police work - status: I have so many stupid ideas for this one, so we'll see XD
A/B/O (a genre I dislike to hell and back most days) link/sidon - status: more ideas are being added. This veers off from the things I normally dislike about this genre, so we'll see where it ends up.
Pirate AU (link/sidon) - status: Just so far a faint idea. Might never go anywhere.
I can't start any of the ones because I'm currently on the 3some fic and I can not work on several at the same time XD. But, guys, you know what this means, if you do like the loz fic I have so far, I can assure you I am no where near done XD
Honestly, BOTW2 will be out before I'm done with this shit *laughs hysterically*

Cherub’s Cove: The Main Orphans
These are the main children from the orphanage, along with Arella, who are a part of Cherub’s Cover. They are the “failed” products of Project C and the carriers of C Cells, another variant of Jenova Cells. The power of the C Cells remains unknown. Due to the experiments that led to their births, some of them suffered from genetic and chromosomal abnormalities. Hojo blames all of these abnormalities to their mothers as he said that they are “X-linked”.

He is able to manifest a white wing on his right side. He also carries a wooden sword.
Personality: Caleb is a mischievous young boy who is very playful. He enjoys harmless pranks on others. He often steals food from rich traveling merchants to give to his siblings and the other children since food sources have been strained due to the addition of the forty orphans. Despite his mischief, he is well-liked by the people of Nibelheim, though Claudia does not want him to steal. He often wonders about joining SOLDIER, thinking what kinds of people they are and if they are willing to do what’s right.
Gideon
Code: G-1-10-17
Age: 6
Sex: Male
55 % of Father G’s DNA, 45% of Mother 10’s DNA

Age: 2
Sex: Female
35% of Father G’s DNA, 65% of Mother 15’s DNA
Appearance: Naomi has light blonde hair and bright blue eyes. Her eyes have a light blue glow. Unlike her twin sister, Naomi’s face appears to be “fairy” or “elf-like” with widely-spaced teeth, wide forehead, uneven eyes, and wide mouth. This is all due to her having Williams Syndrome. She wears a purple dress and jacket. She often walks around barefoot due to her discomfort with shoes.
Abilities: Naomi has enhanced immunity against poisons, toxins, alcohol, heat, cold, and sadness. She has telepathy, which she only uses to communicate with Nicole. While this isn’t confirmed, Naomi may induce happiness onto others. However, this might be because of her friendly personality and not her actual ability. However, she has cardiovascular and gastrointestinal issues. She is able to manifest a black wing on her left side.
Personality: Naomi is overly friendly, highly empathic, and very sensitive due to the high levels of oxytocin in her brain. She is loving to all living things, even to scary looking things. She’s very outdoorsy as she loves to play outside with her siblings and the Nibelheim and enjoy the trees, flowers, and birds. She has learning and development delays but it is unclear if it is because of spending her life in a tank until recently or from Williams Syndrome. Because of her friendly nature, Naomi is unable to recognize danger and can’t be afraid of strangers. This causes Claudia to teach her how to know what is dangerous and Stranger Danger.
Nicole
Code: G-5-15-84
Age: 2
Sex: Female
40% of Father G’s DNA, 60% of Mother 15’s DNA
Appearance: Nicole has golden blonde hair and dark blue eyes. Her eyes have a sea blue glow. Her hair is put into two pigtails. She wears a pink shirt and a pair of blue denim overalls. Like her twin sister, Naomi, she often walks around barefoot.
Abilities: Nicole is able to form an “animal bond” whenever her blood gets absorbed into a small animal or insect. It allows her to control the animals and morph them into a monastery. She has telepathy, which she only uses to communicate with Naomi. She is able to manifest a black wing on her left side.
Personality: Nicole is a friendly and empathetic little girl. She loves playing with animals whenever she’s outside, including stray cats, wolf puppies, baby chocobros, insects, and frogs. She recently has taken a few frogs as pets. Strangely, over time, they have gotten pink spots on their hands and feet. She loves to carry around her stuffed Moogle.

Age: 5
Sex: Male
85% of Father S’s DNA, 15% of Mother 03’s DNA

He is very fast and agile to dodge attacks. He is able to manifest a black wing on his right side. He has abnormal intelligence and, like most of the children, is able to absorb information in a relatively short amount of time.
Personality: Yazoo is rather aloof and stoic. He rarely emotes and rarely interacts with anyone, even to his own siblings. As Claudia helps him to be social, he starts to talk more often, even to children from Nibelheim. He has moments that people would describe to be “creepy”.

Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
So while looking for something to post to make up for the lack of writing during hell-month-October I found this bit from my Cloud is the Remnant’s carrier verse where he raises them from birth set post-Advent Children .
Just so you are picturing the right thing – the triplets are like… 12ish here. You know just before puberty where they’re starting to hit the awkward limb phase and the voices are starting to crack.

Cloud was back.
Marlene had thrown herself at the pack’s omega all-but forcing him to scent her while Denzel hung back after a brief hallo.
It wasn’t that he wasn’t happy seeing Cloud – merely that he always felt awkward about being overly affectionate with the pack members. Still feeling like an outsider despite it being years since Cloud had brought him back to Tifa’s bar.
Anyway they’re both probably getting too old for the kind of childish affection Marlene soaks in from the pack and while Denzel isn’t going to tell her to stop it he is even more unwilling to join in.
“Daddy’s home as well,” Marlene informs Cloud despite the fact Cloud likely already knows that fact. He is getting somewhat better at keeping in contact after the whole Sephiroth-revival incident.
“And where is Barret?” Cloud asks more to Tifa than Marlene.
“Well…”
Before Tifa gets the opportunity to explain it the door of the bar opens with Barret walking in. Loz slung over his shoulder and Kadaj and Yazoo tucked under his gun-arm.
“Oh good,” Barret says once he sees Cloud. “You can explain to your mama what you have been up to.”
Marlene giggles when Barret practically dumps the three of them at Cloud’s feet and Denzel does get the instinct. It seems the pack’s youngest members cannot avoid causing trouble and it feels right when they get called out instead of getting away with it just because everyone knows who their parents are and remember what they got up to a couple years ago.
“Mother-“ Loz says, up on his feet and clearly trying to justify or explain their actions.
“What did they do?” Cloud asks, completely ignoring his son’s sad face.
“Their usual shit,” Barret says with a shrug. “Getting into mischief and starting fights.”
“We are too big for this town,” Kadaj says, pulling himself up as well. And he holds himself exactly like he did back when he decided to resurrect his sire at ten and Denzel tries not to show how it still makes a shiver run down his spine despite the fact Kadaj at least is still shorter than him. “Mother stop leaving us here.”
“If you’re bored you could always help here more,” Tifa says.
Denzel doesn’t know if he wants the three hanging around Seventh Haven more. He’s fallen into a nice rhythm with Marlene in the bar – her helping to serve customers as he helps clean up the tables.
“I don’t want them around!” Marlene says because there’s no reason to be worried about them kicking her out over it. And anyway she grew up with the three since they were infants so Denzel supposes she has more right to be upset about younger pack-siblings edging in on what she considers her space.
“Well they need to start doing something,” Barret says, “else they’ll probably decide to start another cult.”
“That was one time!” Yazoo protests.
One time and they had managed to bring Sephiroth back to life.
Denzel still remembers how both Cloud and Kadaj had looked when they had been brought back after the whole thing – close to deal and unwilling to be separated. Loz and Yazoo’s unconscious bodies being dropped off by two exhausted-looking Turks not long after.
He also remembers the three of them being rounded for months after and Cloud only taking local deliveries for the year after that.
“We learned our lesson,” Loz says.
“Yeah, father’s a jerk,” Kadaj says looking at the floor.
“Cloud what do you think?” Tifa asks.
“I’ll take them out hunting,” Cloud says and the three light up. All the children of the pack had been taught to fight of course but those three seem to enjoy it more than Denzel and Marlene do. “And then they can help me with deliveries.”
“That means you’ll let us get bikes then?” Kadaj asks.
“Maybe later,” Cloud says, “when you’re older.”

I teach year 2/3 students. That means my kids typically range from 7-10 years old. For the first four and a half years of my career, I taught Reception kids, who were 4-5 years old. I developed a range of skills drawing on my own interests to teach them and I loved it.
When I first started teaching year 2/3, in a very different school setting to what I had been used to, I had this notion that I couldn’t use all of the tricks I used to use with my Reception kids. I sang a couple of songs with them, but maybe like once or twice a week compared to Rec, which was every day. I didn’t bring my stuffed animals to school because I thought my students would think I was treating them like babies. I didn’t utilize the floor space as much because I had this notion That Wasn’t Done. I didn’t incorporate much free or directed play time, because the curriculum was crowded and I felt the pressure to cram as much as I could. I didn’t read aloud to my students every day. I don’t know why I didn’t do that last one, but I regret it.
And over the course of the year, I became more and more miserable, until I said to myself ‘does it matter if these kids are older? You, an adult, like singing, cuddly toys, play time and reading out loud. You, an adult, are as likely to cross your legs on the floor to accomplish a task as you are to sit at a table. You, an adult, can do whatever you damn well please with your own class.”
So I started bringing all those old things back, and you know what I discovered? The kids loved the singing, even of the babyish songs that they knew. Yes, the wheels on the bus will be raucously sung by 9 year olds if you let them pick their own things to have on the bus. Optimus Prime was a good one. They loved singing with me, because I love singing, and I’m good at it. I use it as a brain/task break, as well as using dance videos, and my kids settle down beautifully because they have a routine. Before I did this, I could never find a brain break that seemed to work for the majority. Now, of course, I have a wide repertoire, but of course, I love singing so it’s my default.
That first 2/3 class did not like cuddly toys and did think I was babying them, but the year after? That class loved them. And now 8 years later I will introduce new toys, like Andy the Anxious Shark (an Ikea shark whom I love very much), and have every single child in my class want to spend time with him to the point I have to draw up a roster.
Each of the students in my class has an assigned seat because I discovered two classes really disliked flexible seating arrangements, but I have cushions and clipboards and lap trays so kids can sit on the floor if they want during most lessons. Luckily at my school we have big enough classrooms that they can. Most kids are able to manage this, their task attention and their behaviour independently.
I have a box of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) bins that kids can use when they finish work early that have a range of materials for kids to build things with. I have a dedicated time every week for Investigation Stations that also incorporate STEAM and whatever topics we may be learning, encompassing a broad range of “this is what you do” and “you can do what you want” activities, usually 8 to choose from.
I read to my students every day during eating time, reading a couple of picture books each week and reading through an age appropriate novel for however long it takes.
And I am no longer miserable. I have discovered that, because I treat my students with respect and don’t talk to them like they’re babies, they enjoy doing these things that could be considered ‘too young’ for them. If they ever are skeptical (I have had a few students who are; literally three), they recognise the enjoyment I get from it all and they play along. “Oh, that’s just Loz doing Loz things”. Because I am just as likely to sit on the floor to read with a student, or sort resources, or play an educational game with a group, the students know they can learn sitting however they feel comfortable, as long as they’re safe about it.
I adapted, I drew on my strengths, I threw away my preconceived notions of “what students at this year level must do”, and I prevailed. And I know I’m a much better teacher for it.

LEGEND / zelda, of the legend of zelda.
fourteen during the events of the first game of the series, twenty by the time of the adventure of link.
when in the castle she presents as regal an image as a teenager can, as raised to do by her mother. she seems wise beyond her years & is commended for it, & she can be quite shrewd - she was one of the few to keep a level head when ganon launched his attack on the kingdom, which allowed her to shatter the triforce of wisdom & scatter it’s parts before anyone noticed.
she is, however, a little fucking gremlin.
boisterous, mischievous, a bit of a mean streak which comes from being a bit spoiled, being an only child. absolute card shark. don’t bet rupees against her, she’ll cheat.
her mother was the ruler before the attack, although she was pretty much raised by impa. her father died in a hunting accident when she was little.
a princess in rags, essentially, but she doesn’t mind. all her clothes are hand - me - downs & it shows. she was never too fussed before ganon’s attack, & had more important things to worry about afterwards.
not the pink - dress design of zelda. that’s fable. legend’s about five foot four in the original game, peaks in height at five foot six during the adventure of link, green eyes, dirty - fair hair worn long & loose with a simple gold circlet, & old gowns which, during the events of loz, are slightly too big on her, & during aol, slightly too small. can’t catch a break !
FABLE / zelda, of the adventure of link.
fable 🤝 wild woke up & the world was radically fucking different & they just had to fucking deal with it
was twenty - two when she was cursed to sleep, fuck knows how old she is once she finally wakes up, but it’s an absolute culture shock when she does, having been cursed to sleep during hyrule’s golden age only to wake up in a world of near - ruins. it’s ... very upsetting.
she also has trouble communicating with people initially because the language & accents have changed so much - she speaks ancient hylian, which few people know. she’s able to communicate with legend, who learned it as part of a royal education, but it doesn’t help her sense of isolation when she wakes up.
very girly, very feminine, & filled with melancholy. understandable, considering she’s in mourning for her lost life. has a sense of humour which was easily sparked in the hyrule of the past, as well as too gentle a heart for her own good ( absolutely cries over spilled milk ) but she’s a very good judge of character. caused her a lot of strife being able to see what a selfish bastard her brother ended up being.
very upset by how reminiscent legend is of her brother, in appearance rather than personality, but working through it. she has no choice, she’s one of the only people she can talk to.
there may or may not have been a link in her own time. who’s to say.
telepathic abilities like a few other zeldas before her ! they don’t all get them, legend didn’t, but she did. allowed her to reach out to other people through their dreams a few times, but nothing really came of it. good avenue for interactions, though.
pink zelda design. blue eyes, wild, wavy auburn hair, & a very, very fancy dress. a little upset at just how far hyrule has fallen when she wakes up - she’d’ve taken legend for a very well - dressed peasant at worst in her own time, can’t believe she’s a princess in her finest when she wakes up.
baggage up to her fucking eyeballs, probably, watch this space, we all know i can’t let anyone be happy
#◆ ― headcanon / zelda ( legend. )#◆ ― headcanon / zelda ( fable. )#i have an image in my head of the first time the girls meet & fable is just.#horrified. that legend is ruling hyrule when she's so young & also that she's wearing something so PLAIN#she's allowed to have skewed priorities she's just woken up to discover she's 3000 eyars old#or something along those lines still figuring it out
