2024 Fic Wrap Up
Thanks for the tag @on1occasionfork. I was so happy to see the notification! And shout out to @cheeseplants for starting this.
What fandoms do you write in?
Currently:
Doctor Who
Good Omens
How many words have you published in 2024?
105,318 (!) Wow, like 10x more than any previous year.
What is your greatest achievement this year?
Blowing away all my previous writing records! Next week I’ll pass 60k published words on one story, beating my old Nanowrimo record (and that was a lot of unreadable stream of consciousness drabble, not a coherent, researched, beta-ed, work other people are actually reading!)
What are your favourite top three fics you wrote this year?
I only wrote 4 so I guess I just have to exclude one?
Red Tape (Doctor Who (2005)) (1,276 words), G – this is just a fun one shot with 14 and a bad ass administrator Donna moment.
Before She Knew Me (Doctor Who (2005)) (17,442 words), 14th Doctor and Shaun Temple end up on a little adventure that touches on both their past and future. Guest starring River and Jack.
Good Works (Good Omens (TV), Good Omens - Some Guy & Terry Pratchett) (currently 52,526 words) My 1980s political human AU.
What was your biggest pit of despair moment?
I knew I was going to take a break while travelling in October so I had spaced out publishing to make sure I didn’t leave things on a cliffhanger but I didn’t know I would get COVID on the flight back and then, just as I was recovering from that, get hit upside the head by a election-triggered existential crisis. There was a while where I wasn’t sure I would get it together to come back to writing but, six weeks later I got another chapter up!
What have you learned?
Long stories are hard – especially if you insist on publishing each chapter as it’s written. Because you will figure things out later in the process that you could have threaded through the earlier chapters. Knowing the whole story is pretty important if you really care about building towards a conclusion that is both surprising and coherently unsurprising because it all clicks together, as it should.
I don’t know if I can write without the comments and kudos along the way, but I would like to try getting through a whole work before publishing just so I can see what it’s like to have the whole draft open and editable when it’s all worked out.
What fic did you want to do but never made it off the ground?
I loved the Rogue character in Doctor Who and I made a few bullet points about having Ruby and Rogue run into River (and yes, all the “r” names get called out early on). It would have been a Doctor Light french farce in space. But the mood passed and I don’t think I’ll come back to it unless the character makes another appearance and I’m more inspired.
Did you beta any fics? Any favs you want to shout out?
Only casually. I do want to look for more opportunities to ‘give back’ to the community in 2025!
I did get a chance to give early feedback on Headlong and I’m excited to see where that goes.
What three fics have you read this year that you love?
Haha, 3? Man, top 30 would be hard enough. 3 is comical!
I’m going to skip the BIG CLASSICS and shout out some less well known ones that really grabbed me and keep bringing me back.
Rearrangements by sheendav E, 60k, Human AU, the slowest burn possible (they don't even talk for like 30k)
always crashing (in the same car) by mayhawk 32k, E, Cannon time loop. Probably in my top 3 ever.
Seirbheis by Kalimyre 27k E, mind the tags. Clear communication and consent is so hot.
What ideas are percolating for next year?
Untitled Wine Mom AU for the Ineffable Wives – Recently divorced Angela moves to town and meets single mom Antonia. Can they figure out how to survive carpools and PTA meetings? And maybe some healthier coping mechanisms?
“Nobel Prize for Idiots in Love” – Two brilliant scientists vying for the prize and totally failing to discover what’s glaringly obvious to everyone around them. Tell me in the comments if either of those sound like something you would read!
Who do you want to thank? A huge THANK YOU to @on1occasionfork for reaching out to invite me to join GOAD (wow, just wow! it was a game changer for me) and for being such a kind touch with the copy edits and always ready with encouragement! And to @nosferatini and the whole @goodomensafterdark crew for always being supportive and welcoming. What a great group. Gives one hope in grim times.

Season 1 (2005): Definitely worth watching, even though there are a lot of cringey fart jokes. I wouldn't skip any episodes because they are all great.
Season 2: A ton of great episodes, and a few less good ones. Skip "Tooth and Claw" and "Fear Her". Controversially, I recommend you watch "The idiots lantern" and "Love and Monsters".
Season 3: Overall I would say better than season 2. Skip "42" if you need to. "Last of the Time Lords" is a bit weird but it's the season finale so you kinda have to watch it.
Season 4: IMO the pinnacle of doctor who. Don't skip any episodes of you can.
10th Doctor Specials: "The Next Doctor" is good but not vital. Watch the rest.
Season 5: Because of how Steven Moffatt wrote the season, you kind of need to watch it all. It's not top tier but still good.
Season 6: I'm not a fan of this season. So many episodes are unnecessary but okay enough for me to still watch them.
Season 7: I don't remember shit about "A Town Called Mercy" or "Hide". And if I can't remember it, it probably isn't that important.
11th Doctor Specials: Watch them both. Do it.
Season 8: This season is not well received but I honestly loved most of the episodes. I usually skip "Listen" though.
Season 9: Revenge of the two-parters. Worth a watch but every episode feels tedious. "Hell Bent" kinda sucks but it is the part two to "Heaven Sent" which is a top tier episode. EDIT: Don't bother with "Sleep No More" it's not worth it.
Season 10: So much good stuff here. I don't remember much about "The Eaters of Light" so it's kind of the runt of the litter.
12th Doctor Specials: There is only one. "Twice Upon a Time" isn't exactly peak doctor who but it's pretty fucking good.
Season 11: Oh God I hate chibnall's writing. Jodie had such potential and it was ruined. Watch "Woman Who Fell to Earth", "The Ghost Monument", maybe "Kerblam!", and "Resolution".
Season 12: Watch "Spyfall" parts 1 and 2. "Ascension of the Cybermen" and "The Timeless Children" are nuclear bombs on doctor who cannon, so you will suffer when you force yourself to watch them, because it's so cannon it's required. Watch "Revolution of the Daleks"
Season 13: I actually kind of enjoyed this season. It's also all one story so you kind of need to watch it all.
13th Doctor Specials: "Eve of the Daleks" is good fun. The one episode I have yet to watch is "Legend of the Sea Devils". "Power of the Doctor" is wildly good for Chibnall, so definitely watch it. Also, RA RA RASPUTIN RUSSIAS GREATEST LOVE MACHINE.
14th Doctor Specials: David and Donna are back in full force. Watch all of them. Also, HAI SI JA HOLD TIGHT.
Season 1 (2023): Why are you still reading this, it isn't out yet. Send me an ask this coming fall for my opinion.
Hi any people who enjoy doctor who I want to get into the new stuff where do I start from?

One and five for On A Bright Cloud Of Music, Shall We Fly?
1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?
It was just over two years ago at the end of April, and I'd come off a thirteen-Broadway show month (that was back when thirteen shows a month was a lot for me instead of standard operating procedure). I was full of art and somehow I came up with this little idea of having a Gilded Age modern AU with Sylvia as a famous fashion designer and Aurora as a newly-destitute employee. But I had so much going on at the time, so I put the idea up on a shelf and didn't give it a second thought.
Cut to about three weeks later where Donna Murphy attended the Downton Abbey premiere in this outfit:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/99ee47d064487ec4aa458ab9c630ec33/3325d2c4f1c5c6e4-d1/s540x810/f89eacb3cbdede9f40b89eb432122ed99e3bb5ce.jpg)
I swooned. And then I knew I had to have a modern Lina Astor on red carpets in gorgeous outfits designed by her famous wife. But again, timing. No time to think, no time to plan.
A week later, I sit down and start typing with only the barest concept. It was just supposed to be a short little story. Maybe 15-20k, surely, right? Right? No. In one day, I had ten-thousand words. And from there, it just kept spiraling. I knew I wanted certain moments, but how I'd get there, heaven only knew. By the end of that first day, I had a 4k outline, and assumed it would be about as long as "Getting to Know You." In those early days, I did a lot of no-context scene explanation to a friend over discord.
Five days after starting, I had over 50k written and had gone down several strange rabbit holes, and there was just more and more to say. Scrolling through the discord, I'm realizing I just did a lot of summarizing for my friend (who just kind of let me ramble and never acknowledged most of it, which works for us).
Before the first three weeks were out, I had over 130k and things still kept happening. Meanwhile, the theatre world was feeding me real-time inspiration because Kelli O'Hara was just everywhere (as per usual) and then on June 14th, it was announced that Donna Murphy would make her triumphant return to the stage in Dear World the following year. And I just about fell apart. The euphoria I experienced fueled my writing spiral for weeks. In all, it was about eight weeks, including an editing period (lackluster, as you can imagine if you know my whole deal with not editing), 221k and the kind of manic creativity I can never hope to replicate.
5: What part was hardest to write?
The whirlwind experience was extremely fast, and I cannot recall any difficulties. I never had a moment where I suddenly ran out of steam or couldn't figure out how to get from point a to b. I just...I flew. I basked in the the freedom I'd created by making this a contemporary piece and changing all the rules. I didn't have to follow any canon constraints or unfamiliar time period. I just did it.
I have not reread this particular piece in over a year because I know in my heart of hearts that I could make it better now. I've had two years of upward improvement in writing, as one does, and I don't want to go back to potential disappointment. But this exists in a specific context and time, and I don't rewrite.

Eurovision 2004 my top 36 (WOW)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/175ab6873048c72ef2317044a68b63ef/tumblr_inline_pkeobzSrOS1t4srel_250sq.jpg)
Hello, and welcome to another episode of this ESC top series, and for the first time ever I go to two different dates: May 12 and May 15, 2004, when the 49th edition took place in Istanbul, Turkey, after Sertab Erener’s victory in Riga last year. This year was the first one to have a semifinal round to accommodate the growing number of participating countries, which was of 36 this year. While Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, FYR Macedonia, Switzerland and Monaco returned to the competition, we said hello to Belarus, Albania, Andorra and Serbia & Montenegro. From the semifinal qualified 10 countries added to the 14 automatically qualified countries from 2003. The contest was won by Ukraine and Ruslana with the song Wild Dances, making this their 1st win and they won the year after they debuted. And now, let’s start this kinda long list. Also, this year is the worst one in terms of sound quality, most of the songs sound cheap and there are a lot of mic fails.
1st Place: SERBIA & MONTENEGRO/Zeljko Joksimović & Ad Hoc Orchestra-Lane moje (Real Placing: 2nd-263 points)
At first I was bored of this song, but then I listened to it and I was amazed by how beautiful is this song. His voice is stunning, the music is mesmerizing and wow... I don’t know what else to say, this takes my breath away and my senses fly to another place.
2nd Place: UKRAINE/Ruslana-Wild dances (Real Placing: 1st-280 points)
HELL YEAH THIS SONG!!!! I was, and still I’m obsessed with this song, it’s so energizing, powerful, epic, and makes me feel good, Ruslana is such a perfect singer and what a voice does she has. Of course this is a worthy winner and what a winner! Also when I was playing GTA 4 this song appeared and I was like ASKJFKLDLK and Ruslana was the DJ, and it was one of the best moments of my life.
3rd Place: CYPRUS/Lisa Andreas-Stronger every minute (Real Placing: =5th-170 points)
Again a cute ballad with a very young singer, and I found it very lovely, the lyrics are cute and the music is so wonderful. I’m so moved by this song every time I listen to this. Surely this song deserved so much more than it got.
4th Place: SPAIN/Ramón-Para llenarme de ti (Real Placing: 10th-87 points)
Oh a song with a very salsa touch to it, Ramón’s voice is very good and suits this song perfectly, the music is so catchy and the lyrics are good. AY QUE CANCIÓN TAN BUENA. I love it.
5th Place: SWEDEN/Lena Philipsson-It hurts (Real Placing: =5th-170 points)
LENA <3 I LOVE YOU, the song is so good, her voice is stunning, as always, and she has such a stage presence with this song, and the microphone stand is a nice touch to this one, I like more the Swedish version but this is very good as well. Hurts oh it hurts really hurts in the middle on the night...
6th Place: BELARUS/Aleksandra and Konstantin-My Galileo (Real Placing: =19th SF-10 points)
This song is very good, has a nice feeling to it, I love the music and maybe the problem here is her voice, but anyway I always enjoy this entry so much and the performance is nice for this song, a nice debut for Belarus too.
7th Place: ALBANIA/Anjeza Shahini-The image of you (Real Placing: 7th-106 points)
Another cute song, the music is so good and her voice is stunning, also I’m in love with her and overall this entry makes me feel so happy, the performance is very effective and what a debut for Albania, well done.
8th Place: GERMANY/Max-Can’t wait until tonight (Real Placing: 8th-93 points)
This song is brilliant, the music is so calms and the lyrics are nice, his voice is so perfect and suits this song so well, I always sing along to this one and I love the part in which he sings in Turkish, a nice detail there. Wow... no more words to describe this wonderful song.
9th Place: GREECE/Sakis Rouvas-Shake it (Real Placing: 3rd-252 points)
If you asked me 2 years ago, I would’ve said that this was in my top 3, but later I discovered 8 songs I like more than this one, still Sakis is very hot, the performance is perfect, I enjoy the music and his voice here was a bit shaky but I like it. I’m in love with this men and with the song as well, what was Greece planning for 2005?
10th Place: FRANCE/Jonatan Cerrada-À chaque pas (Real Placing: 15th-40 points)
What a nice song, I enjoy this ballad so much and his voice is perfect and I love the last part because it’s in Spanish. The performance was a bit too much but it captures the essence of this song. What a beautiful song!
11th Place: ANDORRA/Marta Roure-Jugarem a estimar-nos (Real Placing: 18th SF-12 points)
Awwww a song in Catalan <3 and I love this, her voice could’ve been better but still this works, the music is so 2004 and I’m so crazy about it, this is such a wonderful debut and I enjoy this entry so much.
12th Place: MALTA/Julie & Ludwig-On again... off again (Real Placing: =12th-50 points)
I’m crazy about this song, I love their voices and the music is very schlagery but it works for me, the chorus is so catchy and I like the whole atmosphere in this song.
13th Place: TURKEY/Athena-For real (Real Placing: 4th-195 points)
Again this song is so epic and I love it, this has a nice chorus and the verses are very good, this is something I’ve absolutely would’ve heard in 2004, because it’s awesome.
14th Place: BELGIUM/Xandee-1 life (Real Placing: =22nd-7 points)
Why this finished so low in the final? THIS IS WONDERFUL AND EPIC, she sings so well and the music is amazing, I’m amazed by this one and since I heard it I fell in love with this song. Certainly deserved so much more than it got.
15th Place: ISRAEL/David D’Or-Leha’amin (Real Placing: =11th SF-57 points)
OH WHAT A VOICE, the music is very nice and the performance is perfect, I’m in love with this song and he sings like an angel. I’m so amazed by this song, and it deserved the final.
16th Place: ESTONIA/Neiokõsõ-Tii (Real Placing: =11th SF-57 points)
I’m in love with this song because it’s very interesting, the music is hypnotic and they sing quite bad but I enjoy this entry so much, and the language is very interesting. I like their dresses though.
17th Place: CROATIA/Ivan Mikulić-You are the only one (Real Placing: =12th-50 points)
Before Sergey Lazarev, there was Ivan Mikulić, and this song is lovely, even if it reminds me of another song from Mexico, his voice is so good and the music is pretty and enjoyable, but maybe in Croatian this would’ve been so much better.
18th Place: ICELAND/Jónsi-Heaven (Real Placing: 19th-16 points)
This ballad is nice, but maybe he was nervous because his voice sounds a bit bad here, the music is so brilliant and I enjoy the key change at the end of the song. Overall a nice average song.
19th Place: LATVIA/Fomins & Kleins-Dziesma par laimi (Real Placing: 17th SF-23 points)
Oh a song that makes me feel free, and I enjoy the music so much. Also the fact that this the only song that has been in Latvian it’s nice. I enjoy their voices but here the sound ruins everything.
20th Place: UNITED KINGDOM/James Fox-Hold on to our love (Real Placing: 16th-29 points)
This song is great as well, the music is so enjoyable and perfect, his voice is on point and overall this entry is very cute, I’m in love with this one, a nice song for me.
21st Place: IRELAND/Chris Doran-If my world stop turning (Real Placing: =22nd-7 points)
Oh another lovely Irish ballad, the music is so cute and his voice is very good. The chorus is so nice and here he unleashes his voice. This entry is vey nice and yeah, I like it.
22nd Place: FYR MACEDONIA/Toše Proeski-Life (Real Placing: 14th-47 points)
I’m just in love with his voice, it’s so amazing, but this song isn’t good, sounds kinda cheap and doesn’t grace his voice. I love the performance though and his voice makes this better.
23rd Place: NORWAY/Knut Anders Sørum-High (Real Placing: 24th-3 points/last)
Awww HOW THIS FINISHED LAST IN THE FINAL, this song is so cute, the music is so fresh and I love his voice, this song also has a very catchy chorus, this song didn’t deserve last place in the final.
24th Place: PORTUGAL/Sofia Vitória-Foi magia (Real Placing: 15th SF-38 points)
This song is very good, the music is so catchy and I remember the chorus because it’s memorable, her dress is awful and maybe the performance was poor but I love this song. Her voice is so nice to listen.
25th Place: MONACO/Maryon-Notre planète (Real Placing: =19th SF-10 points)
Oh this is such an adorable song, her voice is very good and I enjoy the music because it’s very good, this was very underrated and this was the comeback of Monaco, with a song that IMO deserved more.
26th Place: DENMARK/Tomas Thordarson-Shame on you (Real Placing: 13th SF-56 points)
This song is enjoyable and nice, he has a nice voice but maybe the performance was too red and too bad, overall this song is good but I need more oomph to this one.
27th Place: FINLAND/Jari Sillanpää-Takes 2 to tango (Real Placing: 14th SF-51 points)
I like the tango sounds on this song, his voice is good and the music is enjoyable and catchy, but I think this song needed a bit more to reach the perfection, also, Jari is such a charming singer.
28th Place: BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA/Deen-In the disco (Real Placing: 9th-91 points)
This reminds me of Hot Stuff from Donna Summer, and it works a bit for me, I like this one but I think there are better songs this year. I always dance to this one but maybe it’s a bit crazy for me, even I usually like this kind of songs.
29th Place: AUSTRIA/Tie Break-Du bist (Real Placing: 21st-9 points)
Another cute song, but sadly this fails to impress me and it’s kinda boring, the chorus kinda saves this one but this doesn’t go anywhere, they sing okay. Not a great effort.
30th Place: ROMANIA/Sanda-I admit (Real Placing: 18th-18 points)
I must admit that I love the music because it has potential, but her voice was a bit bad and the performance isn’t great, the dress is horrible and they killed their own song, sadly.
31st Place: THE NETHERLANDS/Re-Union-Without you (Real Placing: 20th-11 points)
This is lovely, but I must say that this song after it ends I don’t remember it, the atmosphere is cute but maybe this didn’t stood out in a quite strong final, also the running order killed it.
32nd Place: POLAND/Blue Café-Love song (Real Placing: 17th-27 points)
This song isn’t so bad but I don’t like her voice, is so weird because I usually like those voices. The music is good but sadly this song passes by and doesn’t say anything to me.
33rd Place: LITHUANIA/Linas and Simona-What’s happened to our love? (Real Placing: 16th SF-26 points)
Okay this song is also very annoying, this only repeats the chorus and it turns boring, the music is kinda nice but sadly this song doesn’t goes anywhere.
34th Place: RUSSIA/Julia Savicheva-Believe me (Real Placing: 11th-67 points)
This song is incredibly boring for me, it’s uninteresting, the performance is horrible, what’s going on with those dances, her voice isn’t good, this song is one of the worst Russia has sent to the contest.
35th Place: SLOVENIA/Platin-Stay forever (Real Placing: 21st SF-5 points)
Another boring and plain song, I’m not so fond of her voice and the music is very flat, not a brilliant effort.
36th Place: SWITZERLAND/Piero Esteriore & The MusicStars-Celebrate (Real Placing: 22nd SF-0 points/last)
No... just no Switzerland... this is one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard, no more comments.

REPLY IMA WAKE 2 IMA WAKE 2 1 day ago "Most hard core liberals have psychologically deprived backgrounds which causes them to invoke defense mechanisms which causes them to seek power over others and develop a “wounded” world view which causes them to express the depths of their psychologically damaged personality."
"Liberals are exercising power over others that have achieved legitimate success and they are trying to get the achievers of society to pay for these often phony liberal causes. This gives the liberal a sense of entitlement to act out against the successful among us and take what is not theirs. This helps to restore feelings of power to the liberal that they lacked in their deprived childhoods which are typically characterized by neglect."
"In the deprived psychological environment that characterizes so many liberals, they are typically angry at the world. And they often seek to inflict pain on the successful because they are angry. This defense mechanism is called displacement. They just don’t want to dominate the political narrative, they seek to inflict pain on a personal level to those who have experienced success. This is what fundamentally causes liberals to lack respect for the rule of law and just old-fashioned human decency. They seek to hurt successful people and to tear down the pillars of society."
"The left uses their self-contrived and often invented self-indignation as the excuse to justify inflicting pain on others. Rationalization is defined as making excuses to justify one’s actions. This is also the well-spring of almost all genocide, both past and present in a “they deserved it mentality."
"There is a final defense mechanism that liberals often employ. Because of their psychologically deprived background, we frequently see use of the defense mechanism called overcompensation. This is where an individual will perceive some personal deficiency (eg lack of academic success) and then seek to excel in another area (eg athletic prowess). In the case of a mentally ill liberal, their lack of personal success and acceptance from their peers, in their collective childhoods, leads them to excel in other areas, namely, liberal causes which frequently inflicts pain on successful people."
"Liberals are largely representative of people who have been psychologically wounded by life and they spend their adult life getting back at the very power structure that they blame for their psychological pain as a result of their own personal shortcomings.
Why do liberals not respect the sanctity of life (eg late-term abortions)? Their psychological pain keeps them from feeling empathy by the youngest members of our society as they are torn apart limb by limb for their body parts. Do I need to point out the reaction formation of liberal females who are overcompensating for their perceived personal rejection. Beautiful women come in all shapes and sizes and I don’t typically promote stereotypes, but ask a non-liberal male about the appearance of many liberal females. Many times, it borders on bizarre. The same can be said for the emasculated males who grew up expecting trophies for participation, instead of achievement. And when achievement does not come, liberal causes designed to illegitimately redistribute wealth becomes a frequent mantra from the left.
On the surface, liberal causes makes no sense. Their behavior makes no sense until one realizes that we are dealing with damaged individuals whose internal anger causes them to seek to bring harm others under the guise of performing some twisted form of justice (ie social justice).
At the end of the day, these psychologically impaired people make good warriors for the global elite. They are actively working to tear down the family, destroying Christianity and taking down America on behalf of the elite who want one-world government that the elite controls. In short, at the end of the day, liberals again find themselves being abused as they are relegated to the role of useful idiots for the express purposes of the Satanic mentality that underlies those who would subjugate all of us on a global scale."
"These useful idiots (liberals) would do well to examine the fate of people like the Brown-shirts of Nazi Germany. Their fate is the fate of useful idiots. If and when the global elite ever seizes total control over the planet, they will have no use for liberals. Being a liberal will have a very short shelf-life under the New World Order’s authority where a rebellious and psychologically damaged mind will not be tolerated by a totalitarian regime." Read more

I'll tell you why.. 1) Because Assange is key to this whole Russia story and US Atty. Durham is retrieving all kinds of fascinating info from Assange (think Seth Rich... "hacked" DNC emails (blame RUSSIA)...). 2) Admiral Rogers is a true patriot and saw what was occurring against (future) President Trump and logged everything (perhaps "mislabeled" to avoid cleanup by the corrupt Intelligence Community under Obama?). You can bet he's chatting with Durham too. 3) Because of Durham's ongoing investigation and they don't want to announce that publicly because that then confirms there is even an investigation into certain people to begin with. Keep it all under wraps until Durham is ready to start handing down indictments.
They have nowhere to go. The walls are closing in and the American people are going to see a miraculous show this fall and through the next year. Justice is coming. Read more

Svitolina ousted by Suarez Navarro, Halep through in Madrid
MADRID (Reuters) – Elina Svitolina suffered a shock 2-6 7-6(3) 6-4 defeat by emotional local favorite Carla Suarez Navarro, while world number one Simona Halep beat Elise Mertens in the Madrid Open second round on Tuesday.
Tennis – WTA Mandatory – Madrid Open – Madrid, Spain – May 8, 2018 Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro celebrates winning her second round match against Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina REUTERS/Juan Medina
Suarez Navarro was brushed aside in the first set but battled back against Ukraine’s world number four by scraping through a second-set tiebreak to set up a dramatic third.
Breaking to go 5-4 up, Suarez Navarro spurned four match points after leading 40-0 before taking a tumble on the final point but Svitolina sent her return long and the Spaniard burst into tears in front of the raucous home supporters.
“I’m feeling great, I’m very happy because at the end of the day, these type of victories are the victories that you need,” said 29-year-old Suarez Navarro, the world number 25.
In the second set the Spaniard slipped and appeared to hurt her ankle, which was already strapped.
“I fell down because I twisted my ankle, my right ankle, but I feel good,” she said. “I mean, I fell down in the second set (but) I could play all of the final set. Now (I will have) a little bit of treatment, but I will be fine for tomorrow.”

Suarez Navarro will play American Bernarda Pera in the third round after she saw off Britain’s Johanna Konta 6-4 6-3.
AGGRESSIVE HALEP
Halep trounced out-of-sorts Elise Mertens 6-0 6-3 to reach the third round and stay on course for her third consecutive title at the event.
The Romanian top seed wrapped up victory in just over an hour, hitting 23 winners with only 18 unforced errors as she ended the Belgian’s 13-match winning streak.
Slideshow (4 Images)
Mertens has triumphed in Morocco and Switzerland this year but her form deserted her as she struggled to cope with Halep’s combination of power, guile and relentless court coverage.
“I had to start the match very strongly and aggressively, which I did,” said Halep. “After I played a few games, I felt really good on court. I felt very confident that I could win that match, I think I played well again.”
Halep will face Kristyna Pliskova in the last 16 after the Czech beat Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo 7-5 6-2.
Garbine Muguruza struggled at first against Donna Vekic but the third seed eventually found her game to win 2-6 6-4 6-1.
Muguruza has often struggled at the Caja Magica and after Vekic broke the Spaniard three times in the first set it looked like she was going to suffer again.
However as her Croatian opponent tired, Muguruza improved in equal measure and won the final set comfortably to set up a third round clash with 14th seed Daria Kastakina of Russia.
Petra Kvitova, seeded 10th, edged wild card Monica Puig 6-3 7-6(8) and in the third round faces Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit, who beat Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-2 4-6 6-2.
Kvitova dished out nine aces but made an equal number of double faults as she held on to extend her winning streak to seven matches despite her opponent’s aggressive brand of tennis.

Eurovision 1980 my top 19
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/42051e7741d2a104f94707e51745e018/tumblr_inline_pjnehoKmNk1t4srel_250sq.jpg)
Hello, and welcome to another episode of this ESC tops, and we go back to April 19, 1980, when the 25th edition (wow) was held in The Hague, The Netherlands after Israel, last year’s winner, declined to host twice in a row. 19 countries took part, Israel and Monaco withdrew, the first because the contest was held in a holiday, making them the only country that doesn’t defend their title, and the latter withdrew until 2004. Anyway, Turkey returned and Morocco made their first and last entry. The contest was won by Ireland and Johnny Logan with the song What’s another year?, making this their second victory overall. And now, let’s review all 19 songs.
1st Place: THE NETHERLANDS/Maggie MacNeal-Amsterdam (Real Placing: 5th-93 points)
THIS IS FLAWLESS, this IMO should’ve won in 1980, Maggie’s voice is perfect and the music is wonderful, her performance is superb and wow, this has a lot of atmosphere. Maggie, you’re amazing!!!
2nd Place: IRELAND/Johnny Logan-What’s another year? (Real Placing: 1st-143 points)
Oh our winner and Mr. Eurovision first win, this song is very heartfelt and the lyrics are so sad, but Johnny’s voice is amazing. A deserved winner I must say but it’s not my favorite song of this year.
3rd Place: GERMANY/Katja Ebstein-Theater (Real Placing: 2nd-128 points)
Oh Katja, why are you an amazing singer with a wonderful voice, IMO this is the best of her three entries. This is catchy, the backing singers are amazing and their clothes are great, Katja as always stunning... I wouldn’t mind if this one won that night.
4th Place: GREECE/Anna Vissi & Epikouri-Autostop (Real Placing: 13th-30 points)
Again, I love this one so much, Anna’s voice is stunning and the music is bouncy but I feel happy with this one, this performance is perfect and I absolutely adore this song.
5th Place: FRANCE/Profil-Hé, hé, m’sieurs dames (Real Placing: 11th-45 points)
France with a fast song? So weird but for me it works, this song is very catchy and their outfits are pretty. The music is very good and keeps me entertained every time I listen to this one.
6th Place: SWITZERLAND/Paola-Cinéma (Real Placing: 4th-104 points)
This one is amazing as well, Paola’s voice is very strong and the music is catchy and I love the lyrics, they make me feel so happy and what a song!!! I’m in love with this one.
7th Place: PORTUGAL/José Cid-Um grande, grande amor (Real Placing: 7th-71 points)
AWWW THIS IS SO CUTE, the music is very good and the lyrics are very good as well, I’m in love with his voice and overall with this entry. This makes me happy and I want to dance along to it when I hear it.
8th Place: MOROCCO/Samira Bensaïd-Bitaqat Hub (Real Placing: 18th-7 points)
I LOVE THIS ENTRY, so good. The music is magical and her voice is pretty amazing as well, the bridge and the chorus are the best parts of this song. THIS ENTRY WAS SO UNDERRATED.
9th Place: TURKEY/Ajda Pekkan-Pet’r Oil (Real Placing: 15th-23 points)
This has an ethnic vibe that I love so much. her voice is so lovely and the music is brilliant, the performance was so good and this is such an enjoyable song to liste.
10th Place: LUXEMBOURG/Sophie & Magaly-Papa pingouin (Real Placing: 9th-56 points)
This entry is funny, catchy and memorable, also the penguin costume is hilarious, unfortunately their voices weren’t the best but still, this entry makes me feel so good when I hear it.
11th Place: ITALY/Alan Sorrenti-Non so che darei (Real Placing: 6th-87 points)
I like this song, but not as I did before, his voice is very good and the music is brilliant, overall a nice song and I love him so much.
12th Place: SWEDEN/Tomas Ledin-Just nu! (Real Placing: 10th-47 points)
This entry is great as well, Tomas’ voice is very nice and the music is good, quite rock but turns out to be more like a pop song. His microphone has a lot of failures but he’s such a professional. Nice entry overall, but Hit men inte längre or Växeln hallå would’ve been better choices.
13th Place: DENMARK/Bamses Venner-Tænker altid på dig (Real Placing: 14th-25 points)
This is very cute! I love their clothes and the music is so calm and lovely, also his raspy voice is nice, even though I can’t stand raspy voices a lot. Nice little song.
14th Place: AUSTRIA/Blue Danube-Du bist Musik (Real Placing: 8th-64 points)
This song is quite good but the verses kill it, also the voice of one of the female singers is quite bad in the chorus, overall a nice entry but with some details that annoy me.
15th Place: NORWAY/Sverre Kjelsberg & Mattis Hætta-Sámiid Ædnan (Real Placing: 16th-15 points)
This is a nice song, and the part with Mattis is simply wonderful, also the music is very Sami, the lyrics are also very good, but as far as I’m concerned, they did the dam anyway.
16th Place: BELGIUM/Telex-Euro-Vision (Real Placing: 17th-14 points)
This is... weird... just weird. The music is very 80′s but maybe this was too much for 1980.
17th Place: SPAIN/Trigo Limpio-Quédate ésta noche (Real Placing: 12th-38 points)
Another entry that is very annoying, I don’t know if it’s the music or the lyrics, but their voices are very good. Not a good song overall.
18th Place: UNITED KINGDOM/Prima Donna-Love enough for two (Real Placing: 3rd-106 points)
This is such a dull song, the music is very boring and they seem so stiff on stage. Also the lyrics are a bit cliché by the time, and I don’t know how this could end so high on the scoreboard that night.
19th Place: FINLAND/Vesa-Matti Loiri-Huilumies (Real Placing: 19th-6 points/last)
This is horrible, the music is erratic and weird, and his voice isn’t pleasant at all. Not one of Finland’s best song ever, even one of the worst.
