What is your character’s favorite memory?: Her first kiss with her Fiancée. They’re so cute >\\\<

Who and what would your character give their life for?: She’d give her life for Lillian, for her twin Florence, her mom and dad. She would’ve given her life if she could have Fiona back, too.

What is your character’s greatest fear? She’s a bit distressed about living appart from Florence. It’s not exactly a fear, but she will miss her sister.

What is your character’s proudest accomplishment?: So far, it was finding true love on a person who also loves her. And also being level 5 at her cheff carreer.

What is your character’s #1 insecurity?: She’s pretty confident at this stage of life.

What will/can break your character completely?: To lose her Lillian. They’ve grown really attached for the last few months and she’s never dated anyone before. I don’t think Freya would ever overcome the trauma.

What would your character make a scene in public about?: I’d totally picture Freya starting a fight in the middle of the street just because someone was being mean to her on purpose or saying bad things about anyone from her family/friends.

What can drive your character to do criminal acts?: I don’t know if it would be like hardcore criminal acts, but I think she’s a bit mischievous so yeah...Appart from that, maybe she’d kill someone over Lilly or Florence.

What Pet (mythical or not) would your character want to have?: A cat. No matter if an actual cat or a panther... She’s really catlike.

What is the cutest thing your character has ever done?: Proppose to her fiancée in the middle of the local park. There were people taking yoga classes there and they could see the whole thing.

How does your character feel about sexual intercourse?: She never really needed it until Lilly and her started dating. Now she thinks it’s a good way to spend her time. Lilly turned her into a perv tbh.

How close is your character with family and friends?: She’s completely out of her mind for Florence and she was the same with Fiona before she passed. They share this deep bond since they’re twins and Identical. She loves her mom and dad but her hero will always be Fafnir, her big brother.

How does your character react to pressure?: She’s never really been under pressure but I think she’d deal ok with it. She’s a cheff, afterall.

How religious is your character (if they believe)?: She never had the time to think about it, but she knows someone is on charge sometimes, specially since she met Lilly. Someone that perfect wouldn’t just come in her life randomly. (Actually, it was kinda randomly... And also my deed lol)

How does your character’s personality change when someone gets uncomfortably close (relationship wise)?: Let’s face it. She’s a young, interesting, pretty and smart girl. She’s always had guys trying to woo her and she wasn’t always the kindest to turn them down. Sometimes she doesn’t have the patience to be kind to some people.

How does your character’s living space correlate with their personality?: Her family is big, so their house is a mix of different vibes and stuff. Her bedroom is all filled with bright colors like yellows and greens (she’s aggressive but in a feminine way). She likes pretty stuff and we can see a lot of that in her bedroom, she loves makeup there’s also a lot of that through the house. And her bedroom has the darts which is a fun and social game and she’s both.

How well does your character act around with unknown and different people?: She’s rather welcoming, but in her own way. She’s so welcoming she just acts her normal life around new people and that kind of passes like she’s ignoring them.

How much does your character value money?: She couldn’t care less about money. She never had family and kids to feed, she never had any needs which couldn’t be met. Her family isn’t really wealthy, but they’ve been living comfortably for a few generations now.

How would this character cope with losing someone extremely close to them? She has already lost one of her triplets. She coped well since she was still really young but she preferes not to talk much about it.  She can take the loss, but gets way more concerned how people around her will cope. I guess she leans on how people around her deal with the situation.

How long does it take for your character to trust others? She’s pretty comfortable around people, but she’s not naive. She gives everyone the benefit of the doubt but once you screw up, you’re over. 

SCENARIOS

If your character could change one thing about themselves, what would they want to change?:  She’s pretty ok with herself.

If your character could go back in time at any point in their life, what would they do to change the present?: She wishes she could go back to the day her sister died and be able to tell her not to cook or save her from the fire. It was all so soon and the girls were so young...

If your character was given a chance at fulfilling their dream, can they drop everything they have now to go pursue it?: No. She is walking towards that dream by herself and she will get everything she wants with time. She won’t need to give up on anything to persue her dreams and she can wait.

If your character’s current spouse or partner cheated, would they try to make it work or leave forever?: It depends a lot. You can’t see it yet, but Freya’s a bit jealous (not the trait) of Lilly at times. She’s not a control freak but I guess she’d get really mad at her girlfriend and herself if that happened. However, it’s her Lilly, so she’d probably only breakup if she knew there was nothing she could do to make her relationship work.

If a zombie apocalypse begun in the town your character currently lives in, what would they act like?:She’d be that crazy girl with the bazooka or something. She’s wild.

What if your character suddenly woke up to an unfamiliar place, and realize the life they lived was all a dream. Their family, friends, home.. all gone but still crazily vivid in their head. How would they react?: I think she’d end up completelly out of her mind. She’d be 100% unable to live without her people.

If your character was thrown in jail, what would they be guilty of?: Getting into a fight with someone in the middle of the street...

Rewind 10 years from now, what is your character currently doing?: *looks into the future of Velvet and cries silently* Nobody needs to see that yet.

Your character is in the movie SAW, facing their worst fear. What is that fear, and how does he/she react?: Seeing someone she loves get killed. She’d probably find the person, kill the person in the most terrible way she could think about.

Career: Chief Executive Officer for the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs

The Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs is a national organization that works with states and territories to support the optimal health of women and children. Our member programs collectively serve about 63 million people.

Steps towards becoming a CEO: I received a Bachelor of Science degree, then went on to get my Masters degrees in Public Health and then Business Administration. I thought the MPH would provide me with the information I needed from a content perspective, and the MBA would help me better understand business and strategic planning processes.

I also spent time thinking about how I wanted to make an impact; in what industry, what role, etc. I then spent some time researching if that position existed and if so, what types of skills did the person currently filling that role have. I tried to also critically think about what that role might need to have in the future if the industry changed and/or if there were needs/gaps I could see filling in some way.

Afterward, I started to chart an educational and career path to get the necessary experience and education that would make me marketable and differentiate me from other people who might be applying for the same role. For example, in the public health space, it’s not common to see someone with both an MPH and MBA, so I can “sell” the fact that I can bring a strong business background and focus on business principles to organizations. Additionally, I realized that a great deal of work in this space depends on your ability to raise money…but not many people have formal training/experience in this, so I sought out roles that were hardcore fundraising, so I would have this skill/experience and be able to “sell” that to a would-be employer. I’ve been the Chief Development Officer for the YMCA and the VP, Corporate and Foundation Partnerships and Social Enterprise for the American Diabetes Association. It’s essential to think critically about what’s needed in your desired role…and then think outside of the box for ways to fill that need, so you can market yourself in the best possible way.

1- What is a quality that makes you successful in your career?

The quality that makes me most successful is that I try to always put God first. This approach allows me to enjoy what I’m doing; even the hard stuff because I’m doing it in His service and at His direction. It also helps me to value every person, relationship, and interaction. A former pastor of mine offered a challenge that I’ll always remember. “If someone is looking for Jesus, May they find Him in you.”

2- What 3 tips would you give someone struggling to reach their goals?

Before answering this with practical tips…as a Christian, I would first pray for guidance and understanding if this is the “right” goal for me. Is this where God is directing me? Is this my purpose in Him?

Then depending on the answer, I would:

1) Look to better understand how others have achieved a similar goal, i.e., if I want to start a business, can I find a few people in my network to serve as mentors to help me understand how they got to where they are and learn from their mistakes and successes. Having good mentors and a strong network is essential. I heard someone say, “You can network or not work” a long time ago, and that phrase has stuck with me ever since.

2) Never give up. I had a southern grandma who only had a 5th-grade education, but her life experience and old school wisdom were always on time. She said, “If it ain’t no trouble, it ain’t no good.” If your goal is worth anything it will come with struggle and sacrifice…but keep at it.

3) Be creative in your approach. If you are trying to make things work unsuccessfully within the same box, step outside of your box and try a different approach. There may be more than one way to skin a cat.

3- Name the top 3 goals you achieved?

1) My first goal was to complete college and attend medical school. After getting accepted to medical school, I was encouraged to consider getting a Masters degree in Public Health (MPH) before entering a med school program.

After completing my MPH program, I fell in love with population health and adjusted my goal from medicine, which I thought would allow me to make a difference one person at a time, to public health, which would allow me to make change on a larger scale through advocacy, systems change and community capacity building. After working in local government and nonprofit work for a number of years, my goal became focused on getting a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), so I could apply some of the business skills I’d learn to public health and be able to make change happen at an even larger scale…with business and public health partnerships.

2) While working in communities, I’ve had a goal of bringing about change by changing systems, empowering communities, and improving health. While working in Evanston, IL (a suburb of Chicago), I was able to achieve this goal in a few ways:

a) I built a successful health program, called Women Out Walking, geared towards women and strengthening communities. It won national awards and has been serving the community (approximately 1000 women each year) for the past 10 years.

b) I was apart of a small team that brought Evanston its first and only federally qualified health clinic to meet the unmet medical needs of the community. We designed the center, raised the money and worked with the community to build this center, and

c) I was a part of a small group of leaders who designed and raised funds to build a digital media lab within the local YMCA to allow kids to hang out after school and learn about making music, video editing, etc. Above all, it was a place they could go to be safe…since Evanston, like other places, was seeing a rise in youth gun violence.

3) My goal was to lead a national health-focused organization and continue to bring about change on a national level. About 7 months ago, I achieved that goal when I became the CEO of the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs. Excited to see how we can change the world and address some of the issues of inequality in our communities.

4- What inspired you to reach your goals?

1. Growing up in some rough neighborhoods and environments in Philadelphia, I saw first hand how people live and the pain and struggle they go through. I also split my time between inner-city Philadelphia and rural PA, which allowed me to see the struggles of both impoverished minorities and whites alike. Since I can remember, I have wanted to do something about that. My parents and grandparents (really my entire family), have always challenged us to leave this world in a better place than we found it. That motivates me every day.

2.Many people have sacrificed a great deal to allow me to be where I am; I want to honor their sacrifices by living a life that makes them proud, is pleasing to God, and helps others.

3. God provides where He guides and protects where He directs. I want to live a purpose-driven life, so every day, I want to be sure that my work is advancing God’s kingdom.

5- How did you overcome obstacles to reaching your goals?

It wasn’t easy, but as I mentioned before, I knew it wouldn’t be. I am also still on this journey. What’s gotten me through thus far, is my faith, my family and my friends/network.

It is really important to surround yourself with like-minded people, so they can prop you up when you are weak. They can encourage and support you in your most vulnerable moments. Expect that you’ll stumble and hit a wall, but operate knowing you’ll get over it. Your mindset shifts completely when you operate knowing you’ve already won…you just have to keep moving forward.

Also, work hard, but enjoy the journey…you need to enjoy life and be you; because only you have what it takes to walk your journey. If you don’t allow yourself to live, then parts of you will die, and you’ll deprive the world of getting the full you.

6- How do you keep your inspiration from decreasing?

As I mentioned, I am continuously praying and calling on God for strength. He has never let me down and keeps me moving when I’m weak.

I also try and keep in mind why I am doing this and how it will impact the lives of the people we serve. If I keep the people I’m serving in mind, I stay grounded and motivated to keep grinding because people are counting on me.

Another critical piece is to make sure your passion aligns with your purpose, and that you are in a position to make an impact. If your purpose and your passion are aligned, then it won’t feel like work. You will have limitless energy. If you are in a position to actually make a difference in the areas of your passion and purpose, your inspiration/energy can’t decrease.

May’s counterfeit conservative government describes biblical sexual morality as “hateful” in the Wilton Park report. It blames Protestant evangelical churches for spreading “hate-filled messages”. It wants evangelical Christians in the Global South to reinterpret the Bible and accept LGBTI ideology. It calls for “challenging the interpretation of sacred texts”.

Unsurprisingly, it shoves hardcore feminism down the gullets of Christians in Commonwealth countries. “If the Bible is misinterpreted or mistaken on women, the same arguments will apply to LGBTI+,” it concludes and urges non-Western Christians to use a queer hermeneutic to interpret the Bible. The report also castigates western missionaries for “heteropatriarchy” and “an abhorrence of homosexuality”; a theme echoed by Mrs. May, when, in a brazen act of neo-colonialism she lectured the leaders of 35 Commonwealth nations on how she deeply regrets Britain’s legacy of anti-gay laws.

A foundational principle of Conservativism is limited government. The State should keep its nose out of most things—and let its people enjoy freedom from governmental interference. But May’s Tory government has thrust itself into the realm of religion, dangerously transgressing boundaries separating Church and State.

May wants to impose State-regulated liberal Christianity on Britain and the Commonwealth, though that may as well be atheism for all the meaning it contains. But, when it comes to Islam, May flip-flops from liberalism to extremism and welcomes a radical Salafism into the public square. In an act of schizophrenic double-dealing, she thumbs her nose at liberal Muslim scholars who are warning of the dangers of a militant Islam based on a literal interpretation of Islamic religious texts.

It is this cognitive dissonance that is at the heart of the Boris Johnson vs. Theresa May debate on the burqa. Politicians and the secular commentariat have missed the simmering cauldron for the teapot, i.e. the discussion on the burqa and other forms of “modest” Islamic dress for women is a fierce in-house intra-religious debate that has bedeviled Islam for centuries.

At the heart of the debate is the struggle for the soul of Islam and the clash of theologies to find the purportedly non-mythical brand of Islam that is compatible with the values of Western democracy. The struggle has been played out in Islamic countries like Turkey, where “the use of the headscarf in public spaces represents less a personal choice than a political attack on the fabric of the secular state”. Secularists in Turkey see the headscarf as a “ubiquitous and visible symbol of the Islamization of Turkish society”, as Angel Rabasa and F. Stephen Larrabee point out in The Rise of Political Islam in Turkey.

The headscarf or face veil is a dynamic and definitive symbol calibrated to divide the wheat from the chaff—to separate the “true” believers who have submitted entirely to Allah from the “nominal” Muslims who pick and choose from the Islamic scriptures as it suits them or as context and culture dictate.

The debate on the burqa is chiefly a theological debate. Muslims are asking the question: is the veil wajib (compulsory) for all Muslim women? There is no doubt in Islamic fiqh (jurisprudence) that a Muslim woman’s hair and body should be covered. The dispute is over whether this extends to covering the face. Is face covering optional or mandatory?

The Koran does not mandate the face veil. The word hijab is the Arabic word for a curtain. The Koran instructs believers that if they had to ask Muhammad’s wives for anything they had to “speak to them from behind a curtain (hijab)” (33:53). Extrapolating from this verse, Muslims may conclude that the actions of Muhammad’s wives in veiling their entire bodies when meeting men who are not their relatives suggests that a hijab or burqa can also refer to clothing through which a woman conceals herself from view.

In the Koran, Allah commands Muhammad to tell his wives and Muslim women “that they should draw their cloaks (jilbab) over themselves” so they will not be molested (33:59). Again, devout Muslim women apply this to the face veil.

It is the Hadith that really opens a can of worms on the dispute over the burqa or hijab. For example, the hadith of Abu Dawood (No. 641) has Aisha, Muhammad’s wife claiming, "Allah does not accept the prayer of a woman who has reached puberty unless she wears a khimar (a head covering).” Numerous verses in different Hadith collections make the hijab and other head coverings mandatory. Those who insist on the full-face veil usually translate terms used for head coverings as “veils” or full-body coverings, leaving openings for one eye or two so that the woman can see the way.

A number of hadith interpret the verse instructing women to “draw their cloaks over themselves” as covering one’s head and face with the exception of one eye. (Ma’rifatul-Qur’an Vol.7, p.217; Tafsir Ibn Jarir Vol.22, p.29; Tafsir al-Qurtubi. Beirut: Dar al-Kutub al- Ilmiyah. Vol.14, p.156; Tafsir Ibn Kathir). Even the pure women of Paradise wear face veils, how much more should earthly women, contend those who insist on the burqa, basing their case on a hadith from Sahih al-Bukhari (Vol.8, No. 6568).

Scholars have pointed out that the form of Islam practiced by most women who wear the burqa is Salafist Islam, the most potent form of political Islam. Salafism advocates a literal and binary interpretation of Islamic teachings as enjoined by Muhammad. Salafists trace their roots to Saudi Arabia. They glorify an idealized vision of the true Islam practiced by Muhammad and the Muslims, in the seventh and eighth centuries.

A German intelligence report points out how, “Salafism rejects the democratic principles of separation of state and religion, popular sovereignty, religious and sexual self-determination, gender equality and the fundamental right to physical integrity”. Salafism is “the fastest-growing Islamic movement in Europe”.

The 100 Muslim women who have written a letter demanding Boris Johnson’s expulsion from the Tory party are using secular-speak to con the Prime Minister and the public with their taqiyya (Islamic deception or dissimulation). They say they speaking as “free women who are able to speak for ourselves” but are, in essence, the radical voice of Islam. They candidly declare they wear the burqa “because we believe it is a means to get closer to God”.

At the moderate end of the spectrum is Taj Hargey, imam at the Oxford Islamic Congregation, who says that the burqa and niqab are “a nefarious component of a trendy gateway theology for religious extremism and militant Islam”. Munira Mirza, former Deputy Mayor of London, has also hit out at the Salafist face veil proponents for throwing: “moderate Muslims under the bus” and empowering “the unrepresentative grievance mongers and extremists who masquerade as Muslim community spokesmen”.

While moderate Muslims are backing Boris Johnson and even calling for a ban on the hideous and oppressive burqa, feminists like Ruth Davidson, leader of the Scottish Conservative Party, have thrown their lot with Theresa May and the Salafists. In a statement reeking of monumental stupidity, Davidson compared Muslim women donning the burqa to Christians wearing a crucifix.
