once again thinking about how eerily similar this all is to the holocaust. like... have been listening to podcasts as i play elden ring and some episodes (of behind the bastards) were citing they thought they were free: the germans, 1933-45, which is a series of interviews with working class germans who eventually joined the nazi party (conducted by a jewish scholar, iirc) and like... idk. i see the north american liberal here.
and here a direct comparison is made:
#i think i'm going to read the whole book#unfortunately sometimes life reminds me that i used to study history and propaganda and that i want to study it again#meanwhile my sister just got back from prague after finishing her masters and we are both Unemployed Writers now#lol.#also behind the bastards is a rec#it's not always perfect but it was what inspired a paper i wrote on#belgian atrocities in the congo and the way i think like...#wwi was instrumental in distracting from that genocide#because belgium needed to come across as a pure victim in that conflict#it was an incomplete paper tbh because i had a lot of trouble actually accessing wwi propaganda at the time? weirdly enough?#also my professor did not appreciate when i diverged into complaining about herge...#they thought they were free#books
