Went to nearest YSL beauty store couple days ago. SA was soooo nice she let me try Libre and other perfumes then I told her I’m Austin fan, actually I’m here bc I want to try MYSLF 🤣
The smell was nice and unisex. Not too niche, complicated or too strong, just average good smell so I may buy it sooner or later 🫣🤣

There is no reason to worry about him and his reputation or career. The general public does not care, social media is a bubble. And social media has always made fun of him for several reasons, from his looking young to his body, as they do with ALL celebrities. But those people only care about the here and now, Timmy and Kylie will be old news as soon as another celeb has a new scandal or there is a new celebrity couple. It won't affect him. Nobody is gonna say: I'm not going to watch Dune Part 2 because the guy who plays Paul is hooking up with Kylie Jenner.
Some of his fans will "lose respect", he will lose some fans like it happened after Cabo, and then he will get more who couldn't care less about who he sleeps with, as long as they like the movies he stars in. Ultimately, he is an actor: the measure of his success is and will always be his work. He might lose those fans who like to have a parasocial relationship with the people they stan, who look at celebs as perfect people to put on a pedestal, but I'm not sure he really cares about dragging along those kind of stans for the rest of his career. Who wants judgemental fans always pestering him about his dating choices?
Right now there is a lot of drama, but may I remind everyone that Timmy, while very intelligent and talent, is also a 27 years old guy? Guys at that age, honestly guys in general, don't necessarily look for more than fun in every single relationship they have. Kylie will pass, like other women he's had.
For those worried about his career, I point to Leonardo DiCaprio, who famously had a pussy posse and still became one of the best and biggest actors in the world because his work has always spoken for him. Ultimately, when general audience buys a ticket for a movie, they don't think first about who the star is dating.

Timothée Chalamet Questions - Updated
I saw this tag game here and decided to update this. When did you become a Timothée Chalamet fan?
September 17th, 2020. It's been two years that this man changed my life and now I can't imagine my life without being a fan of his. I have never been in love with an actor like him.
What was the first movie of his that you watched?
A Rainy Day In New York. I know it's a bad movie (in my opinion) and I barely remember the story at this point. The only thing I remember is the "Everything Happens to Me" scene.
Favorite movies of his?
Dune, The King, The French Dispatch,Little Women and Miss Stevens, Call Me By Your Name (I love the movie, despite, you know who.)
What are your least favorite movies of his?
Hot Summer Nights, Don't Look Up and I didn't like Entergalactic that much ("What? You didn't like Entergalactic??"). To be honest about Entergalactic, it's good? Yeah, just not my favorite movie of his. I also don't like A Rainy Day In New York.
Favorite red carpet event in general?
Cannes 2021 was my first ever red carpet I've watched, so this one will always have a special place in my heart. Venice 2021 and 2022 were awesome, I remember them fondly, LFF was amazing and the Bones & All red carpet in Milan was exciting as heck.
I also have to mention Oscars 2022 and the 2021 Met Gala.
Have you watched his whole filmography so far?
No. I have to watch Bones and All ASAP.
Have you ever dreamed of him? If you remember the dream, tell about it below:
Many times, and dreaming about Timothée is the best thing ever. Here are some of my most cherished dreams:
1. Timothée was wearing a white shirt on a Zoom video call, playing “Quand tu M'aimes” by Charles Aznavour on his guitar.
2. Timothée and I were recreating the music video for “Shape of My Heart” by Backstreet Boys. The music video was exactly at the 2:37 mark of the song, and in this part, I stroked his hair while the camera panned down on his bare feet. We were dressed like the couple in the music video: I wore a gray shirt and blue jeans, with some black sneakers, while Timmy was entirely clad in black, barefoot.
3. Feeling extremely homesick, Timothée caught a bus and started writing a text message to his mom, telling her how much he missed her. Then, he looked out the window and tears streamed down his cheeks.
4. A channel was broadcasting an incomplete cut of Bones and All. The intro scene had nothing to do with the book (The movie wasn't out when I had this dream, so the only things I knew about were from the book), since it involved a man fighting against a woman with an explanation about how that man became the first person with the cannibal curse. The reason why he has become the first cannibal was because he lost the fight and went on a transformation that rendered his hair white and his eyes pink (My subconscious mixed Bones and All with Dune). The rest of the scenes were more faithful to the book. Maren as a kid, Lee and Maren going to sleep, Lee’s crying scene, it was nonsensical, yet awesome.
5. I met Timmy on a "secret mission" in which I had to interview him. I was wearing a black suit, and I couldn't go to the movie theater he was attending because I had no tickets. Then, Jennifer Aniston of all people helped me get them, then I entered the movie theater and I asked: "Have you seen a man with brown hair and green eyes?", to which people answered: "He's in the bathroom." Timmy came into the room, with his Oscars 2022 outfit and his LFF hair. I took a selfie with him, but when I took another one to show to my friends, I woke up.
What movie of his are you most excited to see?
Bones and All, which I'll be finally able to watch because I've found a link to it, followed by Wonka and Dune: Part Two.
Favorite outfits/pictures?

Cara Dune’s Absence In The Mandalorian Season 3 Grows The World Beyond Grogu
The Mandalorian season 3 is here and it’s already doing great things to further the Star Wars franchise. But like most franchises, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni’s new Star Wars invigoration isn’t blemish-free. One of its major characters, Cara Dune, was written out of the show, due to the actor’s political leanings. Whether this is right or wrong is not something I’m going to debate. But let’s take a look at just how they explained Cara Dune In The Mandalorian not being there anymore, and how that actually helps the show grow. Disclaimer: The following will have a lot of spoilers for both seasons of The Mandalorian, as well as well as the season 3 premiere. Cara Dune Was A Badass; Gina Carano Not So Much After her appearance as the headstrong Shocktrooper for the former Republic, Cara Dune became one of Din Djarin’s (Pedro Pascal) allies from season 1 onwards. She reappeared in season 2 to kick more butt, helping rescue baby Grogu in the climax. However, off-screen, Cara Dune actress Gina Carano made public her right-wing political ideologies. Creating a lot of controversy with her views, Carano’s behaviour didn’t exactly align with that of the family-friendly Disney, who owns Star Wars. News broke that Carano would be Cara Dune in The Mandalorian no more. While the decision happened during season 2, Dune was very much part of the season 2 storyline, which meant her absence would be in season 3. And fans eagerly waited for how they would explain the character’s absence. And they did it brilliantly. Cara Dune In The Mandalorian Is Still Good Halfway through The Mandalorian season 3 premiere episode, Din and Grogu arrive at Navarro to meet up with Greef Karga (Carl Weathers). Upon arriving, Karga tries to entice Din to give up his bounty-hunting ways and settle down in Navarro. Maybe even be the Marshall, the post previously occupied by Dune. When asked where Dune is, Karga provided the explanation everyone was waiting for. Apparently, at the end of season 2, Dune was responsible for taking Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) to the New Republic authorities. Impressed, they recruited her and now she works for them. What’s classy about this, is that while everyone may have had a problem with Carano’s actions and behaviour, they separated the artist from the character. The wrote Dune off in a way that still makes her a badass good guy, without taking away from that. Especially when it would’ve been much easier to kill her off, or take a shot at the actress, through the character. Growing The Mandalorian World With What’s Happening Outside The coolest thing about this explanation is that it gives a slight look into the world outside of Din and Grogu. While The Mandalorian works because of its very insular nature, as in not venturing out into the larger existing canon of Star Wars. Or crossing over with any of those stories, at least not in a way that doesn’t make sense. It was the first post-Return Of The Jedi series in Star Wars. So it’s cool to hear about how the New Republic is developing before we see them established and then become rebels themselves in The Force Awakens. Din even asks Karga why he doesn’t request a new Marshall from the New Republic. So which Karga replies with disdain, about how he doesn’t want to replace one bureaucracy (Empire) with another (New Republic). This also implies that the New Republic is big and expansive enough to make a comparison like that valid. While I hope this show doesn’t get into the politics of Star Wars or the other major events, it’s nice to hear about them happening off-screen, parallel to the smaller story of Din and Grogu. So in a way, Cara Dune no longer in The Mandalorian provided a great way to give some exposition about the world of this show as well. All’s well that ends well. The Mandalorian season 3 is now streaming on Disney+. Are you happy with Cara Dune’s absence from this show? Do you think they should’ve given a different reason? Let me know in the comments below. Or on Twitter at @theshahshahid. Featured image via Disney+. Read the full article

Also just discovered Cleopatrick and they are just sucking me in, which I didn’t really expect but now I find myself actually enjoying their small-town America anger.
Last thing I saw was a silly cat video – I have some Instagram favorite accounts.
Last Movie - Mad Max Fury Road. I didn’t have time to see Furiosa yet, but I’m planning to catch it on when it’s on Netflix maybe. Catching up with The Witcher. Rewatched The 13th Warrior (on DVD because it’s not available otherwise.)Also Blade Runner 2049 (Love & Joy.) I haven’t seen Dune even though I’m a huge fan and have read all the books repeatedly, because once I see the movies, well then my head canon will be taken over and I won’t be able to escape, and there’s some actual life stuff I have to get done before I immerse myself in Dune 1 & 2. Yes, I am self-flagellating about this as I want but I can’t let myself want too much.
(oooh, I haven’t heard of Mad God before, so now I looked it up and it’s stop motion animation, so now I’m interested.)
Currently Reading: I just picked up Sense & Sensibility and Sea Monsters. (love the horror cross-over.) Previously I read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which was very funny and ridiculous, yet full of homage to dear Jane. The Wager is on my list also. I’m trying to get it from the library. Bing read obsessively fast, save $.
Sweet, Spicy or Savory? Difficult to answer. I tend to munch some potato chips and then eat dark chocolate. But I have those spicy Buldak noodles that were just recalled in Denmark for being too painfully spicy on my counter food pile (people, just don’t put ALL the spice packet in the noodles and you will be just fine, really.)
Relationship: Separated and never getting back together again. Last thread to untangle this month is the health insurance plan. Love has the power to lift us up to the glorious heavens but also to crush like the abyssal ocean’s depths of the Mariana Trench (that’s how fathomlessly deep the lows felt.) Still believe in the inherent goodness of people.
Current Obsession: Came late to watching The Terror (just a few months ago) and now it’s burning holes in my brain. Likes are historical fashion (saving way too many screenshots), stuffed animals and dolls (all kinds, I legit have reference books), history, classics, gothic horror, science fiction, maybe throw some vampires in here too, cats, sewing, crocheting, some knitting (but for the mind-calming repetition.) I’ve been following insta accounts on tiny crochet and just got some DMC thread and the smallest hooks, but I haven’t started yet. My Dad loved naval history and was a British history enthusiast, so I absorbed that and fell right into The Terror, admiring the accuracy of the costumes and the ships’ details – the show runners did such an excellent recreation.
Last Googled: the coordinates of Hawaii (The Expedition’s official destination) and many, many maps on the Northwest Passage (printed some out to color with pencils just for fun), fell down the rabbit hole of how a Fox Dipping Needle magnetic device works, and reading polar and Antarctic adventure blogs posted by very hardy, possibly crazed by hubris, modern day explorers. (One was actually recreating the experience of man hauling sledges across part of King William Island just to see if they could do it – spoiler, Yes, but they managed to avoid a polar bear by luck and nearly died from exhaustion because it was SOOO much harder than they thought, and their tents and clothes became frost laden.)
Currently Working On: IRL – health insurance & getting my car fixed, feeling out my next side gig (tutoring again?) while at my day job I try to up my skillset as the jobs have been thinning out and I suspect my boss will be retiring soon. Besides adulting, happily reading my way through a sheer mountain of Terror fanfic on A03 and rolling characters and scenarios around in my head because those cold boys are still stuck out in the ice and suffering – I’m not willing to let them die of scurvy and starvation yet. Also, easily distracted by other shiny posts that refer to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, anime art, silly cats, Horatio Hornblower (I saw those episodes on public tv years ago and so happy that fandom exists), and Captain & Commander. (Was recently asked if I knew: “What’s the movie with those boys on a boat and the Captain and the cannon balls?"
nine people i want to get to know better!!
i was tagged by the lovely @clandestinegardenias!! thank you!
Last Song: I-E-A-I-A-I-O by System of a Down! i've been branching out of my heavy metal rut of the last 6 months, but System of a Down still slaps really hard.
Favorite Color: hmmmm i really like lush jewel tones, so i think i have to go with like a deep burgundy right now, but the green of spring vegetation in full sun is a very, very close second
Currently Watching: well. i'm in the middle of a The Terror rewatch right now (again....) but the literal last thing I just watched was the IndyCar Grand Prix in Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, CA. but in terms of new shows, i'm not watching new stuff rn.
Last Movie: Mad God. what a fucking trip that film is. jesus. stop-motion horror film. visually gorgeous. disgusting. it was my second time watching it, and it was again really gross and not super linear and 100% up my alley. it was so bizarre, but i am CAPTIVATED by the music (since there is no dialogue; it's only music and sfx) and i want to write a paper on it so so sososo badly.
Currently Reading: currently juggling Captain Crozier: Last Man Standing, Les Miserables, and The Wager! They're all good in their own respects, but very very different from one another, as well. The Crozier bio is a little bit lighter than I was expecting, The Wager more narrative than I was expecting, and Les Mis thus far has just been slow, but i'm in the early pages for everything but the Crozier biography, so i'm still getting used to them. Also I started Persuasion by Jane Austen last month, but haven't gotten very far yet.
Sweet, Spicy, or Savory? they all have their place, but i have such a bad sweet tooth. it trumps almost everything for me. i love sugar.
Relationship: single! i've been single since like.... my sophomore year of high school? and i'm halfway through my master's now, so it's been.... i think i'll have been single for a decade exactly this year, on my birthday. but also i'm extremely aromantic so. that does contribute to that, lmao
Current Obsession: oh it's definitely The Terror. Very much so. but IndyCar is also a quiet sports obsession of mine and i am starting to get In The Weeds for it this year. i deliberately chose to pay more attention after the 500 this year, but i've been meaning to follow the full season for a few years now, and it's been a blast! really nice to watch tbh. it's fascinating stuff, and one of the only sports i can really, truly sink my mental teeth into. also i have been crocheting like mad recently, bc it keeps me entertained and Makes Things!
Last Googled: tire strategy and regulations in IndyCar races, the differences in those regulations between oval and road courses, and the literal difference in composition between alternate and primary tires. very cool stuff. to me, at least, lmao
Currently Working On: jotting down ideas for the next two terror fics i want to work on/sketching out the plots and adaptations for both of them, getting fully trained at my job, and like 3 separate crochet projects. i have. a very scattered brain. also mentally gearing up for my second year of my master's, which is frightening, considering that i have to Write A Thesis soon lmao
oh lordt i don't know if i have 9 people to tag, but i'll tag a few: @imwritesometimes, @jbloopers, @sweetenby, @silkenbutterfly7 - if any of you want to participate, please do!

HAVE YOU SEEN DUNE IF NOT YOU SHOULDDDDDDDD
I did! After Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, I became a fan of Denis Villeneuve. I already wanted to see the new Dune anyway. I remember watching the David Lynch version when I was a kid, and when I heard Villeneuve was directing the new one, I was even more stoked to see it.
I was kind of disappointed Zendaya didn‘t get more screen time — I really liked her in the Spider-Man movies. But! I read Dune Part 2 was greenlit the day after Dune was released because it did so well, and she is supposed to have more of a roll in that. And I’m also hoping Kyle MacLachlan makes a cameo as the emperor in part 2 since he played Paul in the David Lynch film.
Now I just need to read the books, lol! Thanks for the ask :).

How the Jaws Scene in Back to the Future Part 2 Predicted Modern Blockbusters
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Back to the Future Part II is a strange movie. As a sequel that director Robert Zemeckis and screenwriter Bob Gale never intended to make, the ambitious follow-up to one of the greatest sci-fi comedies of all time was put into production simultaneously with Part III, which may have ultimately hurt the middle chapter since Zemeckis was still shooting scenes filmed in the Old West while editing Part II’s trippy vision of the then distant future…of 2015.
Even so, there are elements in the second Back to the Future that still play like gangbusters today, particularly in the sequences set during 2015. To be sure, part of the charm now is what those wild guesses about the future got wrong—such as the idea we’d all be driving around in flying cars, or even simply own cheap cars that didn’t run on fossil fuels. There were no real hover boards in 2015 (or 2021 for that matter), nor even automated Texaco pumps. Yet what Back to the Future Part II got very right is the numbing horror of something like Jaws 19.
Indeed, one of the best bits in the whole film is a slight dig at BTTF’s own studio, as well as the legacy of the film’s producer. The original Jaws is of course the first modern Hollywood blockbuster and it put Steven Spielberg on the map. With its innovative storytelling of leaving the monster to the imagination before finally providing the spectacle in the third act, Jaws is a masterpiece in narrative restraint that could still play for all audiences.
…Which is something no one would say about the three cash-in Jaws sequels that Universal Pictures green lit in the span of 12 years after 1975. In fact, when Back to the Future Part II was released in ’89, it’d only been two years since Jaws: The Revenge, the one where the ghost of Jaws went Bahamas and chased the Chief Brody character’s widow to the Caribbean while on a vendetta for what happened in ’75. It’s kind of hilarious.
As is the scene in Back to the Future Part II. In that sequence, Michael J. Fox’s Marty McFly stands slack jawed in the middle of Hill Valley’s town square, the same space that was so memorably used in the first BTTF film where Marty was forced to finally accept he’d traveled to the year 1985. In the sequel, he comes to realize what it means to be in 2015 when he turns around to face the local multiplex, which has only one film on its marquee: Jaws 19. And then to demonstrate to Marty the state of 21st century special effects, the “HOLOMAX” release teases its thrills as a holographic Great White Shark emerges from the building and descends on Marty’s head.
Perhaps like many an audience member who choked on their popcorn kernels in ’75 with fear, Marty screams bloody murder—and then realizes it’s just a movie and scoffs, “The shark still looks fake.” Yes, it always did, but at least in the first movie that didn’t matter so much.
At the time, the scene was a nice dig at Universal’s expense as well as the Jaws franchise as a whole. What was once the most revolutionary Hollywood movie of 1975 had become a punchline by 1989: a once glorious title that’d been run into the ground with endless cash grab sequels. And the joke is even funnier because of the “19” in the title. Nineteen movies of the same franchise. Could you even imagine?!
Oh, how sweet the irony is, then, that one of the most absurd notions in Back to the Future Part II turned out to be the most true! No, there haven’t been 19 Jaws movies (yet), but that might be by virtue of the studio churning the franchise’s mystique into putty before Gen-Xers and Millennials could grow up with it beneath unsullied nostalgia glasses. Nevertheless, the future where Jaws 19 could exist came true.
Consider that we scoff at the idea of 19 Jaws movies being made in 40 years, but Marvel Studios has released 25 pictures in only 13, with two more due out before Christmas 2021. And that doesn’t even include the television shows that are now coming to dominate Disney+.
I know what some will say: Marvel movies are a series of interconnected franchises, as opposed to one amorphous content farm. But that’s not entirely accurate. There are exceptions, of course, which stand out as singularly distinct from other MCU efforts. There’s Black Panther, for instance. That 2018 Oscar nominee is totally removed from the events of The Avengers, you might say. Then there’s Guardians of the Galaxy and its wacky space opera shenanigans occurring literal light years away from the events of Iron Man 3.
And yet, the appeal for most moviegoers, and the brilliance of Marvel’s marketing strategy, is that they all seem like the same thing to the undiscerning eye. And even to the discerning one, there is a pat familiarity to the formula, story beats, and sitcom-esque ability to wink at the audience at its own silliness. Tonally, they all feel of one piece. Hence why the first Shang-Chi movie was gladly welcomed by the industry last month as Marvel’s latest blockbuster hit—a feat borne in large off it being the next Marvel movie, as opposed to a new original property without a built-in audience.
It’s an aspect to the whole series which caused Dune director Denis Villeneuve to suggest that some Marvel movies are “cut and paste.” It’s also a formula which aids the studio to force its millions of fans to see it “as all connected” and be encouraged to go see the Ant-Man sequel they might otherwise skip in order to discover how its post-credits scene will set up the deus ex machina for Avengers: Endgame.
And that aforementioned Black Panther originally had its protagonist introduced in Captain America: Civil War, an Avengers movie by another name. It’s also the only “Cap” flick to cross $1 billion because they stuck Iron Man in it. Similarly, James Gunn’s Guardians films are genuinely auteur-driven, yet they still worked as a years-long tease of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame’s big bad: Thanos. Hell, Infinity War’s biggest selling point in the trailer was seeing the Avengers and Guardians meet face-to-face for the first time.
The methods and talent being used to produce these endless sequels are far more sophisticated and entertaining than the hack work which produced Jaws: The Revenge, but then that’s why Jaws only lasted four movies and Marvel’s already mapping out its 30th “event” in the next few years.
This is not meant to only criticize Marvel, however. They are simply the most successful studio at exploiting their intellectual property in the 21st century. Universal’s own Fast and Furious movies aren’t half bad at that game, though. This summer just saw the 10th “Fast Saga” movie when you count Hobbs and Shaw. And while Vin Diesel claims the 11th main line Fast and Furious movie will be the last, you just know with its own Avengers-sized cast that Hobbs and Shaw will be merely the first spinoff franchise from “the family.”
Even Spielberg, who was reportedly never happy with the Jaws sequels and what they did to his first masterwork, has been much more ready to “open up” later successes like Jurassic Park. Considered a “smart” blockbuster entertainment in 1993 that inspired genuine awe from millions of moviegoers, that film’s fourth sequel (which was produced by Spielberg, like all the follow-ups) reveled in watching dinosaurs stalk around a haunted house, as if they were Frankenstein and Dracula. Next year’s Jurassic World: Dominion is supposedly intended to be the “final” film of the three most recent, Chris Pratt-led sequels, as well as another sendoff to the original 1993 movie’s cast. Yet it seems dubious that it’ll be the last film set in that “universe.”
After all, the “Skywalker Saga” ended with a whimper in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but Disney is preparing to churn out more Star Wars movies and TV shows than ever before in the next decade.
This is not to say you should feel ashamed for enjoying any of these movies or franchises. Folks like what they like. But what Back to the Future Part II perhaps unintentionally predicted was that audiences would have an appetite for a proverbial Jaws 19.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
When BTTF became a trilogy, sequels were still seen as a creatively risky proposition. Filmmakers often maintained artistic credibility by attempting to turn sequels into a larger thematic whole—often as a trilogy. Lucas set that standard with Star Wars, and only after his buddy Francis Ford Coppola claimed he’d never make another Godfather movie after Part II. Spielberg originally walked away from Indiana Jones after three movies, and many likely wish he’d stayed firm about that in retrospect. Meanwhile, Zemeckis and Gale have done the near impossible thing: refuse to allow Universal to make a fourth Back to the Future movie or reboot the series entirely.
But equivocations in the industry about a proverbial Jaws 19 are long gone. What was once a cheeky riff on the dystopian Coca-Cola billboard ads in Blade Runner have become a modern day reality in 2021. And hey, there’s now a real holographic Times Square billboard ad for that, too.

David Lynch & Surrealism: When the Non-Traditional Becomes Traditional
Often described as “one of the most unique visionaries working in cinema today,” it is not hard to see why director David Lynch and his unusual catalogue of work have garnered a lot of attention since the 80s (ScreenRant). Looking at his career holistically, it is evident how little his style has actually changed. Meanwhile, public perception of him and his productions has fluctuated quite a bit from decade to decade. After a somewhat uncertain start in the 1970s, he eventually rose to become arguably one of the most popular directors in the 21st century, which brought about strong implications for the world of independent cinema. The rise in popularity of David Lynch’s small but strong category of films brought about a wider acceptance of surrealist storytelling, as more audiences embraced the non-traditional storytelling so often associated with independent projects, further blurring the lines between industries and individuals.
David Lynch’s directorial debut, Eraserhead, actually serves as a perfect microcosm of his cinematic style and approach. First and foremost, it is utterly and proudly surreal. The entire film takes place in an ambiguous and unsettling interpretation of America – as many of his projects do – operating within a world that manages to both feel very familiar and very foreign at the same time. The film’s plot, focusing on a man and his grotesque, barely human child, is incredibly vague; Lynch keeps the purpose of the story open to interpretation, simply leaving the viewer with the shock and confusion at what they just watched. Eraserhead does not hold back: like many of Lynch’s films that follow it, it is gruesome, graphic, and sexual (ScreenRant). In other words, it had many of the characteristics that defined a number of flicks as independent cinema. Taking the risk of making such an off-putting movie did not come without its consequences, though.
Released to limited audiences in 1977, the film initially received a good amount of backlash. Variety denounced it as “unwatchable” due to the vagueness and brutality of its content, and since Lynch is notorious for refusing to give any clarification on most of his projects, interviewing him about the project provided no satisfying answers (Variety). It has since become something of a cult classic, embraced by fans of such dramatic and stupefying cinema (Chion 3). But it is easy to see why Lynch did not fit in with mainstream cinema at first. He made it clear that the kind of work he wanted to make did not have accessibility or comfort in mind. If Lynch wanted to be a surrealist director, it seemed he would have to accept that he would inevitably fail to capture the hearts of the average American viewers.
youtube
And yet, despite such a baffling first project, Lynch managed to break into Hollywood rather quickly. He found himself directing an adaptation of the science fiction novel Dune only seven years later in the mid-1980s. Much unlike his first work, Dune turned out to be very slow and boring. Its story is far more concrete, given it is drawing from a popular source text in a genre proven to have reliable appeal. The appeal did not transfer over, though; Dune was a commercial and critical flop (Hollywood Reporter). Lynch was not happy with it either; famously, there were a multitude of clashes and complications with the studio that led to the final release of the film differing greatly from his original four-hour vision. The disconnect is not only felt by Lynch, as Dune does stand out like a sore thumb amongst the rest of his filmography. It is considerably less obtuse and unusual than everything that came before and after, and yet still audiences refused to embrace it. The mainstream had rejected Lynch once again, who refused to be deterred.
Lynch stuck with his comfort zone and returned to writing and directing projects that outright ignored the mold in favor of the atypical (as independent filmmakers are known to do) (Nochimson 11). For instance, Blue Velvet was another clear example of Lynch’s untethered approach to storytelling, a late-80s suburban tale that was much more in line with his personal stylings than that of the mainstream movie circuit (Nerdist). Blue Velvet was a success, much more so than Dune or Eraserhead, but still did not become a Hollywood-level hit (Far Out Magazine). At this time, independent cinema had not quite reached the heights of popularity that it would soar to by the turn of the century. Audiences were not used to his level of surrealism…that is, until the arrival of a certain TV phenomenon. David Lynch’s first major foray into television was the mystery series Twin Peaks, premiering in 1990 on the ABC network. The opening episode was actually shot as a movie in case the show did not get picked up – and was even released as one outside of America with a more ‘concrete’ ending (well, concrete by Lynch’s standards). This premiere is arguably the most important work of David Lynch’s entire career, as it kickstarted what was his first project to really achieve true mainstream success. Its original run only lasted two years before a swift cancellation, but it made a huge impression on the audiences it did reach, especially after it took a hard turn into supernatural elements and had a massively ambiguous ending. Audiences were enthralled and intrigued after being hooked with the more mainstream premise of a teenage girl’s murder; Lynch had finally found a way to hook more viewers on to one of his non-standard projects (Nerdist). Thus, the attention achieved from the original finale of Twin Peaks (the only episodes he directed outside of the opening few of the first season) naturally had a very tangible impact on Lynch’s career.
youtube
After writing and directing another mind-bending independent film that came in the form of 1997’s Lost Highway, David Lynch signed on to direct the G-rated Disney romp The Straight Story (Filmmaker Magazine). This 1999 film is easily David Lynch’s most mainstream work. However, miniscule touches of his style are still prominent throughout the film. While it is the kind of saccharine story one would expect from Disney, it has a colorful cast of side characters (reminiscent of the residents of Twin Peaks) and its camerawork shares some broad similarities with Blue Velvet (Variety). All of this makes sense, given that The Straight Story was the first feature film that David Lynch directed while having no hand in the writing. Still, Lynch’s involvement in the project proved that Hollywood was finally recognizing his talents and seeking his unique style.
Ever since then, David Lynch has remained in the peripheral vision of mainstream audiences. While not quite a household name, his works have propelled him to being one of the more well-known American directors of the past half century or so. People retroactively began to look back on his older works and find renewed interest, turning Eraserhead and Blue Velvet into strong cult classics among film nerds alongside Twin Peaks. Concurrently, Lynch worked on a number of short films and shows across the 2000s, 2010s, and even into the 2020s. One of his most intriguing and baffling productions was a short, 60-second commercial he made for a Sony video game console, dubbed simply PlayStation 2: The Third Place. It is no more nonsensical than the rest of Lynch’s work, but it stands out because of its role as a promo for what would go on to be one of the best-selling video game consoles of all time. Even though it would be misguided to credit that all to Lynch’s advertisement, it nevertheless left a sizeable impact on a widespread audience, remaining in the memories of gaming communities for decades to come. In part thanks to the opportunity to reach wider audiences due to advancements made in the internet age, surrealist art was touching more people than ever and finding new audiences. Along with the rising popularity of independent film around the turn of the century, where non-traditional storytelling almost became its own miniature fad in Hollywood, David Lynch’s style was on its way to becoming mainstream.
youtube
What really cemented David Lynch in the hearts of cinephiles was his 2001 film Mulholland Drive. It felt like a perfect companion piece or spiritual successor to Twin Peaks with its interweaving plotlines, otherworldly side characters, and unclear lines of reality. The ending of Mulholland Drive is perhaps one of the most debated story moments of Lynch’s career because of just how surreal and non-linear it was. The film was quickly labeled one of the best films of the decade and has remained on many such lists in the following two decades (Nerdist). Since its release, Lynch has shifted his attention to television and other short-form content. He has continued to make surrealist short films like What Would Jack Do? that ended up on Netflix among other originals that became some of the most popular mainstream media of the decade. Meanwhile, he has used his YouTube channel to produce loads of short videos colored with his signature oddities, which consistently draw in thousands of viewers (Far Out Magazine). But the ultimate evidence of cultural power that Lynch managed to achieve – despite his rejection of mainstream filmic practices – was the story behind the Twin Peaks revival season that aired in 2017, known simply as The Return. A season that almost did not happen when executive and budget limitations stopped him from making the project, Showtime gave David Lynch completely free reign to make the 18-episode story he desired. It was slow, raw, abstract, uncomfortable – everything his works have come to be known for (Nerdist). And it was a massive success. Fans tuned in every week for to watch some of the most bizarre, dream-like television ever produced, proving that Showtime’s permission of creative liberties paid off.
Although Lynch may permanently shift mediums going forward, his surrealist style of storytelling will likely never dissipate. Not only is it essential to building the character of his works, it has become widely embraced across the nation as the appeal of his films (Creed 2). Lynchian surrealism brought him from the world of independent cinema to mainstream eyes, demonstrating how non-traditional storytelling has found popularity and widespread success with film audiences in recent years.

I don't know who needs to hear this but Lady Jessica is Muh'Queen and she deserves the world!
However, I'm kinda nervous for the new movie, because, I've heard a rumor from several test screenings that Alia doesn't come up ... like at all. As in, not even acknowledging that Jessica is pregnant.
And I don't know how well you know Dune lore, but in the books, Frank Herbert had originally written that Alia "The Abomination" came from the fact that she was Paul and Jessica's kid - due to the fact that Jessica is technically and legally Paul's concubine since she was a bought slave girl bound to the Duke and never married Leto, so in the eyes of the Imperium (and the Freman) she's actually Paul's property inherited from Duke to Duke (Having nothing to do with my 90's R&B revival group Duke2Duke.)
And the only thing that made Herbert change this is that the publishers in the 1960s said they wouldn't publish his manuscript if it had Mother/Son incest. But afterward every Dune adaptation (except for the mini-series) have written in Paul + Jessica = Alia and its changed at the last minute every time.
And I feel, because of Game of Thrones, that the new Dune adaptation is gonna finally do it. That we're gonna get a time jump in a sequel and Alia is born and they're gonna strongly hint that she's Paul and Jessica's kid.
Compounding on this is the testimonial from test screenings that after Leto dies that Paul and Jessica's relationship changes and she becomes less a mother and more what she was to Leto sort of becoming Paul's partner/body guard/ and cuddle buddy, which, fair enough, she was that for Paul in the books too in the early days of being with the Fremen ... but there's talk among audience and crew members that they're building Paul and Jessica up into something other than just mother and son.
Like the stunt and fight coordinator did an interview where he was talking about a very physically grabby and emotional sequence of Jessica teaching Paul the 'weirding way' of fighting and he said "But I don't know if the studio is gonna make them cut it out' which makes you wonder, especially since it had always been the studio that had intervened in Atreides incest in the past ...
I mean, even Children of Dune on Scifi is chalk-a-full of innuendo between Alia and Paul, and Leto and Ganni.
Listen, I know this is the second time I've sent in a concern of mother/son incest ... and listen, I ain't saying that I might not ship Jon/Lois ... just a little. But I want a Dune sequel and I feel people are not gonna be down with Paul/Jessica ... even if after they both drink the water of life Paul knows what its like to have sex with Jessica ... as does her entire family to be honest.
Which is weird.
Look, I'm just a simple man coming to the only other dune fan I know on this hell site cause I just got ...
I've got concerns, man ... ya'boi's got concerns.
I believe it lol. the bene gesserit breeding program is so convoluted and weird by heretics of dune that the shockingly inbred nature of the atreides heirs became the rule not the exception. I think this was always Herbert's intention, working from the kwizatz haderach , the zenith of eugenics superiority (whatever that means), to the base uncontrollable endless succession of gholas and heirs who are nothing but pawns for a grander scheme (like always). by heretics the alia analog Lucille is straight up trying to seduce Miles the leto analog. So yeah, it's everywhere and it makes sense that Herbert toyed with bringing it out overtly by having alia as Paul and Jessica's child as early as the first book.
as to your other concerns, I have two things for ya, hopefully helpful:
1. rumors abound so take everything you read with a grain of salt. remember that every report and leak is out of context. you're getting one snippet of one scene from a two hour movie from Some Dude Online. remember all the spoilers you've read for tv shows and movies that ended up being so far off the mark that it reads back like fanfic. you're in shrodinger's dune territory here lol Paul/Jessica happens and doesn't happen and you won't know until you see it.
2. from what I've read the movie will end with the Jamis incident and there is no feyd so no final showdown. that alone tells us the movie will encompass the move, the betrayal and the attack, with Paul's induction to the Fremen as the end. everything else put off to the possible second movie. alia (and feyd) not appearing doesn't change much of anything story wise, so I say don't stress over it. we don't even know if we're gonna get part 2 for them to even try to pull that Paul/Jessica card. eugenics screws things up for thousands of years and that's bad is one of dune's many thesis. Herbert was forced to change that aspect, but he didn't change it anywhere else and I don’t think the movie will either. so strap in kiddos, time to get sci fi uncomfortable lol
annnnd I think dune is gonna alienate tons of people, same way each successive book after the first dune saw people leave the series for it's weirdness. they're gonna go in expecting Star Wars or even 2001 and gonna come out wondering
what if like the whole world was addicted to special heroin oil that fueled space ships and everything was controlled by mind reading nuns who want to control god. I. CANNOT. WAIT.
#mystuff#thephantomcasebook#dune#dune Is really like EUGENICS IS TERRIFYING BE CAREFUL GUYS#DO DRUGS!#anyways yeah#ask away I love these!

Chapter 2: Beach House Blues
Kakyion's eyes had widened, it had been a while since he heard that name he sat up and slightly gasped, that damn cowboy caused so much trouble for the group, he nearly put Avdol out of commision and stole their car after dealing with Enya.
You then became breathless, your hands just barely gripping the steering wheel all those memories came flooding back to you, every last one of them, your vision went hazy and the tears formed in your eyes. You closed your eyes and shook your head to get rid of them, you lost grip of the steering wheel and you held your face in your hands.
"Y/N!" Kakyoin tried to get your attention, but it was no use.
Just then an oncoming truck was coming your way and because you lost your grip of the wheel your car was heading straight for it. Kakyoin had to act now and fast.
"Hierophant Green!" He called out his stand and he appeared beside him.
Then Hierophant Green started to unravel his lower body becoming a bunch of strong ropes, he nodded to his master knowing exactly what's at stake. The ropes quickly slithered down Kakyoin's legs and upwards towards the bottom of the wheel, gripping it tightly and at that moment and with such force Hierophant tugged with all his might. The car swiftly brushed the truck leaving a few scuffs on both indicator lights of the vehicles. Kakyion sighed in relief knowing that the vehicles did not collide and called back his stand.
You snapped back to reality and gasped with such a force you realised what happened, you grip the wheel once again and you slammed on the brakes. Shaking, you place your hands to your mouth and begin to let out a few tears. Kakyoin felt awful that his question led to you being so distraught. He turned to you and closed his eyes and brought you closer to his chest, pulling you in for a hug. His arm rested on your back as you buried your face into his chest, his other arm gently rubbed your head to calm you down. You held onto his jacket and softly cried into him.
"Shh it's okay Y/N. I'm so sorry I pressed you to talk when you weren't ready." Kakyoin softly spoke.
You couldn't even form a sentence but you nodded into his chest, then you took a deep breath and broke away from the hug, You looked forward and placed your hands on the wheel. He looked at you with his lavender orbs, feeling guilty, but mostly angry at that damn cowboy. He thought to himself how could such a horrible person cause you so much pain, he could see in the little time you've been with him that you were a kind and thoughtful person.
Thankfully the men in the back were still asleep and you started to drive again, Joseph took a wrong turn down a one way street and by the time you started to move again he caught up with you. Thank goodness you didn't have to explain to the others what had happened.
"We are almost there" You softly spoke "Just under this bridge we will be by the beach front." You gave a soft smile at Kakyion you felt calm again.
He smiled at you back and he glanced and saw the beautiful sight, a long open beach with crystal clear water shimmering in the sun's reflection. You indicated to the left after the bridge you stopped at the T- Junction and looked into the mirror and pointed left to tell Joseph to turn left now. You drove along the side of the road by the beach, with the sand brushing against your tires. There it was just in sight of the beach house, The Bombay Cottage.
You sighed with relief as you pulled up to the side of the beach house and parked your car, you waited for Joseph to park his car just in front of the steps of the beach house. You turn your attention to Kakyion and you place a hand on his shoulder and pat him a few times.
"Thank you for helping me back there, I don't know what would've happened if I didn't snap back to reality" You smile more.
He held your hand and smiled back softly "I'm just glad you are safe, but most importantly thank you for getting us here smoothly and safely"
You smile softly while looking at his warm smile but then you remember about the gents in the back. You then leaned passed him and tapped Avdol's knee to wake him up.
"Mr Avdol? Mr Avdol, we are here, wake up." You tapped him more to wake him up.
Avdol rubbed his eyes and gave a big yawn and stretched his arms and realised they had made it to the beach house. "Oh my goodness how long was I out for?"
Kakyion put up 2 fingers and smirked "2 hours."
Avdol blinked slowly "Hm that's a first for me, I'm normally awake on our car journeys, Y/N got to say your driving with so smooth you made this fortune teller drift off." He ended with his signature hearty laugh again.
Just then Joseph marched up to the back door of your car and swung it opened and pulled the still sleeping Polnareff out the seat.
"I saw that cheek you pulled earlier, how dare you!" Joseph gritted his teeth and he didn't forget about the Coca Cola bottles, Polnareff had a rude awakening and realised what he had done.
You all looked with a sheepish expression as you all exited the car and Polnareff clasped his hands and begged the older man forgiveness while in his grip. "No Mr Joestar, I'm sorry please dont hurt me, it was a joke I swear, come on we are friends, NOOOOOOOO!"
Polnareff wriggled and escaped his grip and ran around the back of the beach house and along the beach and Joseph chased him down. "Get back here!"
Jotaro joined you all on the porch and you quickly looked away from him and fumbled in your pocket for the keys, you unlocked the door and you smiled at the gents behind you.
"Welcome to the Bombay Cottage, this is one of many houses that my good friend of the family, Tamsin owns. To be honest this is my favourite from all the ones he owns." You sigh happily and you carried on "Here we have the porch there's a small bench so if you need a breather or a smoke then please use it as your hearts content." You open the door and hold it open for the men. "This is the main lobby" You point to the staircase "Upstairs are the bedrooms I'll show them shortly, oh through here," You carry on walking through the long hallway and reached three doors at the end of the path, "In here to the right is the living room, there's books, TV, radio and a gorgeous view of the beach to keep you entertained..." You open the door to show them the room and you see from the giant window Joseph and Polnareff rolling around in the sand trying to tickle each other.
"No stop, you know I'm ticklish!" Joseph tried to grab Polnareff
"Not as much as I am, NOO! Don't you dare!" Polnareff squealed as he gripped onto Joseph's arm.
Everyone else looking in the room had a deadpan expression and watched them trying to stand up but slipped on wet sand and fell face first.
Jotaro stood in front of you and moved you out the room with his chest and slammed the door behind him "Moving on, what's this room here?" He pointed to the door in the middle.
"Jotaro no need to be rude, sorry about him." Kakyoin gave his friend a disapproving shrug leaned in closer to you and whispered "He doesn't like silly antics, it pisses him off."
"Oh I see now" You look at Jotaro as he places his hands in his pocket and rolls his eyes at the loud screaming from the men outside. The wave came back to shore and soaked them completely.
"This is the downstairs bathroom." You open the door and show them a small bathroom, the toilet behind the door, the sink and shower on the far side of the small room. You close the door and then open the door to the left and show them an open planned kitchen with a dining table.
Avdol and Kakyion's eyes lit up in awe they had never seen such a fancy kitchen before you smile at their expressions and you lead them all back to the stairs in the main lobby, just then Joseph and Polnareff walked up the steps of the porch and opened the door and nearly stepped in the house completely drenched and covered in wet sand.
Avdol pointed at them and ushered them to the dune buggy "Don't you dare step foot in this lovely home. Come on." He led them to the buggy and got the suitcases out from both of the cars and rummaged about Joseph's and Polnareff's luggage and threw them a fresh set of clothes.
"You can get changed in the buggy, don't you dare bring a spec of sand into this home. Y/N has gone out her way for us, it's the least you can do." Avdol folded his arms and gave both his friends a serious look before smiling at them and giving a soft wave before joining you all upstairs. On his way back to the house he picked up the remaining suitcases and hauled them up the stairs.
You had finished showing Jotaro and Kakyion the guest bedrooms and the only rooms remaining at the end of the hallway, your bedroom and the main bathroom.
You pointed at your room but didn't open it "This is my bedroom not a lot to see to be honest. and right here is the main bathroom."
You opened the main bathroom door and the men were greeted to a gold and blue bathroom with a giant bath in the middle with the toilet and sink by the window. Avdol peeked in while you showed the others the bathroom.
"Say Y/N you don't mind if I had a quick bath do you?" Avdol asked so politely
"Of course you can. Oh!" You reached for the cupboard in the corner of the bathroom and pulled out a few towels for him and placed them on the towel rack by the bath, the others left the room and as you took your leave Avdol stopped you.
He placed his hands on your shoulders and looked at your face. You look at him with a questionable expression.
"Is everything okay Y/N?" He asked quietly
"Yes of course" You softly smile
"Then why are your eyes red and puffy" He questioned you and your eyes widened, you were caught lying.
Just as you were about the answer Polnareff came waltzing in and took notice of the nice bathroom
"O la la~ Ah tres bien, tres bi-'' His eyes focused on you in Avdol's soft grasp and his eyes widen "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH~"
"Polnareff it's not what you think!" He got flustered and he let go of your shoulders.
You quickly scrambled out the room, also feeling flustered, you rushed out in such a hurry you bumped into Kakyion's back.
"Oww" You rub your nose.
"Y/N what happened!" Kakyion turned around and Jotaro started to walk down the stairs
"Avdol figured out I was crying from earlier and-" You explained to Kakyion.
"GET OUT OF HERE! I'M TAKING A NICE RELAXING BATH!" Avdol went into a rage at Polnareff's constant teasing and threw a sponge at his hair.
*************************
Half an hour later and everyone was at the dining table about to enjoy some spaghetti al nero di seppia, Joseph was insistent on making dinner and no matter how many times you stopped him, he said no, you couldn't stop him either, so you gave in and enjoyed having dinner made for you. At the dinner table you sat in the middle with Joseph to your right and Kakyoin to your left sat across you was Jotaro on the left Polnareff in the middle.
Avdol walked in just as Joseph was plating dinner, everyone including yourself was in shock to see the Egyptain man with his long hair tied back in a messy low ponytail. He took his seat next to Polnareff and he grinned
"Hey Avdol you should have your hair in that style more often it might impress the ladies" The Frenchman raised his eyebrows at him while giving you a wink. Kakyion facepalmed while watching the exchange, while you sipped on some Coca cola, Jotaro rolled his eyes and looked away.
Avdol slowly turned to him and pointed at him "I told you it was a misunderstanding!"
Polnareff flinched and raised his hands to him "Okay okay I'm sorry I was only teasing... geez!"
Joseph sat down and you all began to eat and you all loved the amazing taste, the tall haired man enjoyed it so much he wolfed it down and sat back with a grin on his face. You all finished eating about 10 minutes or later and that's when clasped your hands and cleared your throat, it was time.
Kakyoin placed his hand on your back and nodded to you " It's okay, tell them what you told me."
You had a heavy sigh and you looked down to your hands.
"I don't even know where to even start with this so I guess I'll start with... with.. Hol Horse...." You calmly spoke even though your body started shaking.
"What?!" Joseph's eyes widened
"HOL HORSE! THAT BASTARD!" Polnareff gritted his teeth
Avdol and Jotaro didn't say much yet they both looked at you with concern and leaned in to find out more.
"Well it all started when....." You began to tell them how it all started
*Flash back brought to you by Za Warudo enterprises*
2 months ago you had travelled to Cyprus with Tamsin and wanted to explore not only the best sights in Cyprus but also visit Egypt.
You took a ferry over and when you arrived you saw how beautiful and how built up the capital city of Cairo looked and that's when you bumped into the long haired man.
"Oh sorry miss I didn't mean to bump into ya like that, names Hol Horse its a pleasure" he helped you up.
"Oh it's okay no trouble at all my name is Y/N" You shyly respond
"Ah what a lovely name for such a beauty, say I just feel awful about knocking you over like that, wanna come with me and get some coffee?" he asked with such confidence.
You nod a lot and couldn't get away with how handsome he was.
You had coffee with him and just before saying his goodbyes he offered to meet up again the same time the following day. This went on for several days and before you knew it you and him hit it off very well. You couldn't believe such a handsome guy took in such an interest in you. He told you all about his life and why he was here in Egypt and you too did the same explaining about visiting your old family friend Tamsin in Cyprus.
Then came that fateful day.
"Hey darling, I want you to meet my boss Lord Dio. I think he'll really like you, if you want to join our little gang he will give you riches and anything you desire." He wrapped his arm around your waist and pulled you close to his body. He stared into your eyes and placed a small peck on your cheek.
"You've told me so much of Dio it would be so wonderful to meet him. Oh you did say he gave you a special ability didn't he?" You asked with your eyes beaming with joy.
"That's right babe you can't see it but he gave me this sweet ability to use a powerful gun where I can control the bullets" He smirked and held you closer to him
"Wow that's so cool darling being blessed by Dio with such an amazing ability" You clasped your hands in his and walked to the entrance of the beautiful white building hidden in the older districts of Cairo.
You walked alongside him walking down a long and narrow hallway and then walked up a long spiral staircase it was dark and poorly lit only seeing so much in front of you. As you walked further into the mansion you saw other members of the gang glare at you, grin and even woof whistle at you. Hol Horse glared at the ones who whistled at you and clenched his fist. They scurried off at the sight of his fist.
You both walked into the library and that's where the man your beloved Hol Horse spoke of sat just before you, you couldn't see much of him apart he had long blonde hair and huge muscles.
"Lord Dio I brought her to meet you. I hope she becomes useful in our plan." Hol Horse kneeled before him and he stepped down off his seat and walked towards you
He placed his cold large hand on your face and slowly caressed it. You froze on the spot at his touch, he licked his lips and clicked his fingers.
"Hmm, she IS a beautiful woman Hol Horse." His voice was so deep and chilling it sent shivers down your spine. You look over to your boyfriend and he didn't once stop kneeling for his master.
Dio brought you closer to his body and his red eyes scanned every part of you taking in all your features.
"Enya bring it now, she's perfect!" Dio with a deep husked growled at the old lady by the doorway.
Your eyes widened on her return. She held an arrow and presented it to Dio, he licked the arrow and he smirked " Your expression is beautiful, but now you belong to me DIO!"
He gripped your arm as you tried to squirm away and with one tug you fell back into his well toned body he drove the arrow into your heart. Everything went hazy, your vision went blank and your body slumped to the floor. Hol Horse rushed over to you and held you in his arms.
"Lord Dio do you think she will be accepted?" He asked with his voice shaky with what he witnessed.
He shrugged and returned to his seat and watched over you.
***************************
Just as you got half way through your story, night had fallen the moon shining brightly over the beach house. Just then at that moment Polnareff accidently let out a small burp which ruined the mood everyone glared at his disgusting act and Jotaro slammed his hands down on the table. The whole time you'd been sobbing reliving the memory of when you first met Hol Horse.
"Im going for a smoke..." he gritted his teeth.
Everyone watched him leave the room and then turned their attention to the Frenchman who covered his mouth but then also stood up.
" I uh better go check up on him....." He walked out the room in shame.
Joseph walked behind you and wrapped his arms around your shoulders, he looked down at you with a caring but sadden eyes, you brought your left hand to your mouth, your breathing got heavy like earlier, tears ran down your face. Kakyion gripped your right hand to let you know he was here. Avdol gritted his teeth and shook his head in disbelief, his warm eyes looking over at you. He felt awful that you experienced that traumatic event with Dio, he knew too well how frightening he truly is.
Just then you all heard Polnarerff scream in pain you jolted up and you brushed past everyone and ran towards the porch.
"Y/N wait come back!" Joseph called for you but you carried on.
"Y/N stop!" Kakyion called to you and then chased after you
Avdol walked by Joseph and looked both confused and worried with how you acted.
You reached outside and you saw Jotaro having a cigarette and Polnareff holding his finger in pain.
"Oww Jotaro what you go and burn my finger like that huh?" He glared at his friend.
Jotaro glared at him and huffed "Dont be so fucking rude next time!"
*Cue the start of Roundabout theme*
You brushed past Jotaro and you placed your hands on Polnareff, then all of a sudden your hands became encased with a marble shield and you began to heal his wounds from the burn.
Jotaros eyes widened "What the hell! She's a stand user?!"
Polnareff smiled that the pain went away, you smiled back at him, but at that moment you lost your vision and collapsed down the stairs. The men stood there in shock. It all happened all too fast for them to react.
Kakyion caught up to you and his eyes widened seeing you collapsed on the steps he ran down, kneeled in front of you and picked you up in his arms.
He glared back to Polnareff and gritted his teeth. He walked up the steps of the porch, he gave him the most disapproving glare and walked in the house and held you closer to him as he made his way up to your bedroom.

So You Wanna Write a Novel?: Basics
Okay, I’ve never actually attempted to give some writing advice in a semi-formal manner, but I shall try my best. As someone who’s been writing original stories for about seven years, I have some advice to give that might help out those of you who are interested in learning how to write a novel but are unfamiliar with where to start.
Keep in mind that I’m not super experienced in giving writing advice, and most of my experience with improving my writing comes from school. I’d probably be more helpful providing essay writing advice, but I’ll try my best to give some creative writing advice too.
Also, shoutout to Alya: @anotherbeingsworld, this one is for you. I hope it helps a bit!
Characters
Personally, I think characters are the most important part of any story. If you don’t care about the characters, why would you want to continue reading? Readers need characters that they can relate to, someone who they see themselves in and that they find themselves rooting for. Without good characters, the rest of the novel won’t matter. So, develop those characters.
Three useful tips I have for making your OCs:
· Incorporate pieces of yourself into them
· Establish a goal or a mindset for this character before you even begin writing the story
· Try to write from the perspectives of people who you may not necessarily agree with
Now that I’ve given those three tips, I’ll go into further detail for each one so that you understand what I mean.
1. Incorporate pieces of yourself into them: By saying this, I mean take some personality traits and/or personal likes/dislikes that you have and give those to your characters. It can be as simple as a shared favourite drink, or as deep as incorporating one of your own personal experiences or beliefs into the character. As long as you can establish a connection between you and your character, it will make it a bit easier to write from their perspective. However, I must warn you, don’t make the character (especially the protagonist) a copy of yourself. I mean, you can, but I’ve never been a fan of the self-insert. Give us a character that is not like their creator. Show us someone who differs in opinion than you and that you may get into disagreements with in real life. Give us a person.
2. Establish a goal or a mindset for this character before you even begin writing the story: I want to see this character start one way and end another. Do they begin the plot not believing in love and then somehow manage to fall in love as the story progresses? Are they self-centered and arrogant in the beginning, and then by the end have realized that other people matter, and that life isn’t so black and white? Do they have a goal to stop the “bad guys” and then later realize that those guys aren’t so horrible? I want to see a change. Characters (especially a protagonist) who don’t experience development throughout the story are not as interesting to me. Flip their entire world upside down. Show us some excellent story arcs.
3. Try to write from the perspectives of people who you may not necessarily agree with: Try to get into the mind of someone who you wouldn’t like in reality. Write from the perspective of someone who infuriates you. Give yourself a challenge by not writing the world through your own eyes, but rather from the eyes of someone who sees things differently than you. Not only do I believe this makes your writing skills better because you can explore different ideals and mindsets, but I think it also teaches a writer to be more empathetic and gives them a more well-rounded view of the world. Of course, if you’re just starting out, this tip isn’t as important, but I still think it should be considered.
Plot
Ah, the part of writing a novel where you must figure out what the hell is going on. I’ll be honest, I’ve always been more of a character-driven writer. Characters are my most cherished possession and the plot itself is just my way of moving them along.
But you can’t have a story without a plot, so here we are.
Have something happen. That might seem obvious, but I’ve read quite a few books where I felt like I was just following characters as they did their daily tasks. Give me a reason to keep reading. Do I want to see two characters get together, do I want to see the hero defeat the villain, am I on the edge of my seat constantly wondering if the team is going to make it out alive? There needs to be action.
It may not be the best way to write, but I like to think of each chapter as a mini “episode” and the whole book is like the “season” of the story. Is it a limited series? Is it an on-going series? You figure it out. Each chapter should be there for a reason. Don’t write about the adventure of Mary as she went to the grocery store and did nothing else. What did Mary see there? Did she find out that some drama is about to go down? There should be a purpose. All the chapters should tell a short story themselves, and then those short stories should all weave together into the overall story. I don’t need five filler chapters. Obviously, this is more for stories that aren’t contemporary, since it’s a bit trickier to make every chapter action-packed for contemporary romance. And yet, there should still be a purpose. We don’t need 150k of almost nothing happening.
The best advice I can offer you is this: figure out the end of your book when you’re only a few chapters in. Decide what the end game is and then work towards it. The story needs to end somewhere, right? We don’t need to follow characters for dozens of chapters only to reach an ending that tells us nothing. Unless you’re making a series, the end of your book should have a definitive conclusion. Don’t drag out the story indefinitely.
Setting
You’re asking the wrong person, I don’t know how to do setting.
Kidding, but seriously, I think that it all depends on what genre you’re writing. If you are working on a contemporary romance, the setting isn’t all the important. I usually give basics: general location, surroundings, different places the characters visit…nothing too extreme. If you’re writing a fantasy, however, you need to establish setting.
Now, I’m mostly a contemporary writer at the moment, but I used to be an action/adventure/fantasy writer, so I do have some experience with writing setting. When I think of setting, I want to be able to envision the area. I want to hear the rain falling, I want to see the night sky, I want to imagine the heat bearing down. I’m trying to not use my own writing for examples, but I think this may need one. When I think setting, I think imagery, and I’ve been told that my imagery is pretty good, so I’ll use a little snippet for fun:
Blinking against the harsh desert sky, A***** stopped to take in what lay before her. Grand pyramids loomed in the distance, towering over the sand dunes on the horizon…The heat seemed to increase the longer she stood out in the open, making it harder to breathe with each passing minute. A*****’s throat screamed for water; her body begged for shade. Pushing the pieces of dark wavy hair from her face, she began to panic. If water didn’t come soon, it would take only a few hours for A***** to dehydrate. The only company was the sound of her laboured breaths. Each inhale became shallower…Hours of agonizing stumbling passed by. The sky had just started to turn a dark red when A***** collapsed from exhaustion. She curled into a tight ball on the side of a sand dune, unable to form any tears. Still, the heat remained unrelenting. Gasps replaced her breathing, and A***** prepared to welcome the cold darkness of sleep drifting her way. Footsteps swished through the sand toward her. A*****’s eyes snapped open. Her hands searched frantically for a grip, for anything to protect her from the stranger she felt standing behind her. When she couldn’t find a weapon, she gathered up what little strength she had and leapt up, whirling to face the unknown person.
Describing setting can be super fun, and if you’re into writing fantasy, then I’d say this is definitely the thing for you. I’m never too concerned about specifics for setting when I write contemporary, since I don’t think much world-building is required, but if you want to create an intriguing world for other genres, I’d say to look up some writing advice on setting (and I will probably do the same because I know I need to work on setting myself).
Point of View
I’ve seen several conflicting opinions when it comes to writing from point of view. Some writers refuse to use first person, some refuse to write in third person, others like second person, and then there are plenty, I’m sure, who do a mixture of all of them. I am the final type, though I do lots of writing in third person.
First, we need you to understand the differences. A first-person narrator uses words like “I, me, we,” etc. It is a narrative told from the perspective of one or more characters, through their eyes. You are the character in first person. Second-person uses “you, your, yourself,” etc. and is a less common writing style. Most of the time I have seen it used in reader-insert fanfiction, and cannot provide much detail on it since it is the POV I use the least. Finally, third-person narrators use the words “he, she, they,” etc. and is told from the perspective of an outside force. Now that doesn’t mean that you don’t get to know the thoughts of characters, since there are several types of third-person POVs. I predominantly use third-person limited, which means telling things from one specific character’s perspective, knowing all of their inner thoughts and emotions. I then switch character’s perspectives in different chapters, but almost never in the same chapter without indicating a clear break in POV.
Why is point of view here? It is necessary to know the point of view you want to write from.
Some writers I’ve seen think that there is almost no reason to write from first person, but I think that some stories require you to follow one main perspective throughout the plot. Most of my contemporary romance is written from first-person, because I think that it’s easier to tell things from the protagonist’s eyes and the other characters’ thoughts are not as valuable to the plot. When writing fantasy or almost any other genre, I like to write from third person, so that readers can experience the story from several different perspectives. Sometimes characters split off and all characters’ experiences are necessary to piece the plot together, and other times I feel it necessary to explore how different characters react to the same situation.
At the end of the day, point of view is entirely up to you and what matters most is that you write in a style that you feel comfortable with.
Theme
Theme is the message of your novel. It is the important aspect of your story, the lesson to be learned when the reader reads the final sentence and has to say goodbye to the characters and the world.
Examples of themes include but are not limited to: love, forgiveness, growth, honour, war, perseverance…the possibilities are endless.
What do you want to tell readers, without really telling them? That’s what a theme is. For example, let’s say you write a story about mental illness and you end the story with the protagonist fighting against it and ultimately realizing they have the power within them to go on; the major themes of that novel would be perseverance and self-discovery. The message readers should get by the end of it is that they can overcome their struggles and find happiness, no matter how hopeless the protagonist may have felt in the beginning and throughout the novel.
Without a theme, your novel has no true meaning. But you don’t need some deep message either, sometimes love is good enough. At the end of the day, it’s your novel, and the significance of your theme is entirely up to you.
---
There is a lot that goes into writing a novel, but these are some basics that can help you get started. I’m not great at explaining in a professional way, but I hope this helps anyone who takes the time to read it. Happy writing!

hey there! so i used to be a huge fan of bleach, and loved ichiruki, and i was reminded of them today but i haven't been involved with the fandom since the series ended. however, i've heard of different variations of why the series ended/ships happened the way they did, and was wondering if you knew or could direct to me a post that explains that? i apologize if i'm bringing up bitter feelings, but i've always been curious if bleach's ending was a big FU from kubo or if he always intended rr/ih
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a post that really goes over it structurally in that kind of way (from a shipping perspective). I’ll get back to what you actually asked me after some asides, because it’s not so simple to just analyze the ships in a vacuum.
I’ve had my own post about why the ending was a fuck you moment, thematically, because it failed to resolve any of the themes and momentum of the series in a way that would be appropriate (either internally or in the context of the supposed genre of shounen.)
I would also say that the ending was a fuck you moment in terms of lore, backstory, and mystery, because all of the historical and political dimensions (i.e., things involving the Soul King and Great Houses) were unceremoniously shuffled off to Can’t Fear Your Own World. Not that any of those things were ever brought up properly in the manga to begin with; the proper and natural time for that would’ve been at the conclusion of the Soul Society arc, when Ichigo and co. spent a week there, which we saw none of. So I would say that everything in CFYOW is basically retconned bullshit hung off prior convenient plot hooks, and that the same was true of TYBW and LSS/TLA/Xcution as well. There may have been some notes and forethought, but it’s about as “valid” as Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert’s Dune works are compared to the original Frank Herbert ones; it’s second-hand, at best.
(This is setting aside that Bleach was clearly made up as it went along. For example: Noriaki literally admitted that he didn’t know who had killed Aizen in Soul Society until he realized that Aizen not being dead was the most shocking answer; the clear baiting and abandonment of Kisuke as the villain hinted at through various means such as his unclear and later retconned reasons for being exiled, and so on. Bleach was very much a J. J. Abrams-style mystery box work that was made as it went with, at best, rough notes, which is why its themes and focus change, for the worse. I also have a post about why it stopped being special, which is part of a running series I intend to write on how to rewrite it to fix and preserve that)
The best recent thing to compare it to is, really, HBO’s adaptation of Game of Thrones, wherein D. B. Weiss and David Benioff openly admitted to removing or deemphasizing story elements, and ignoring themes in adapting the work. The difference is that Bleach was not being adapted from anything; it degraded due to its own creator not understanding what he had created.
(To put it very simply, because this would be the point of Hyperchlorate Part II and would take a whole post to explain: the ending of the Soul Society arc did not properly establish and flesh out Soul Society as a place with a history, space, and purpose. Instead, the Arrancar and Hueco Mundo arcs decided to be a thematic inversion and deconstruction of the Karakura and Soul Society arcs. This again had an ending that did not establish or flesh anything out after Aizen’s defeat, with an even greater diffusion of focus onto ancillary characters. The Xcution arc tripled down on this by addressing something entirely new and retconned in, only to abandon it midway through in favor of going back to invoking Soul Society. And Thousand-Year Blood War took all of these problems to 11. tl;dr: Noriaki tried themes, people hated it, and so he just shoved in more and more dumb sword fights between people nobody cared about, half of whom hadn’t previously existed.)
So, let’s get back to your question. Let’s talk about ships. I’ve clicked a lot of keys and spilled a lot of ink on this subject over the years, but I no longer particularly feel like searching my own archives (really ought to go back through and organize them better) beyond this post and my own follow-up to it about the chronology of IR interactions, so I’m just going to repeat myself.
First, let’s say that Bleach was not ever a manga about ships.
I’m not disavowing that what Rukia and Ichigo had was special. That was called out multiple times through the focus of the art, the dialogue, and by the characters themselves. (Directly by, for example, Orihime’s outright statement to the effect in Soul Society, and her later jealousy regarding it. Indirectly by, say, Uryuu’s acknowledgement that him saving Rukia first would piss Ichigo off. In fact, the biggest indirect indicator doesn’t even involve Ichigo and Rukia; Shunsui asks Chad why he’s there and Chad says he wants to save Rukia, Shunsui calls bullshit that two months isn’t enough time to risk your life for that, and Chad agrees and says he’s there because Ichigo wants to do it. Shunsui moves on, but his argument is left hanging: why was two months enough for Ichigo? Because, as Orihime will later say out loud, Rukia is special.)
What I’m saying is that that was never the focus. It was explicitly constructed that way.
How do I know? The Grand Fisher fight. The Grand Fisher fight is emotionally charged, bringing up both Ichigo and Rukia’s greatest traumas, and is their one real moment of not understanding each other for a time. It was a triumphant moment that made them truly glad to know one another, and you can see it in their reactions afterward (Rukia thanking Ichigo for not dying, Ichigo asking Rukia if he can keep being a Shinigami). There was a lot to unpack there, and you can see it in the way they look at each other.
What happened immediately after the Grand Fisher fight? Noriaki skipped a whole month. We go from June 18th of 2001 to July 17th of 2001. He deliberately skipped all of the emotional impact of that event, and Rukia being around for Ichigo’s 16th birthday. Just never happened. We never hear about it. Wasn’t his focus as a writer.
Now, I’m convinced that was because he was scared of what he had on his hands. He wasn’t willing to commit to either a couple’s battle shoujo or a shounen with male and female seemingly-heterosexual co-equal deuteragonists who clearly had a strong emotional bond. More specifically, he wasn’t willing to make Rukia a centerpiece of the manga despite having designed her first, having made her the moral and philosophical core of his manga, and having based Ichigo entirely around completing and complementing her. But hey, that’s just my opinion, right? Except it kept happening.
From the Grand Fisher fight onward, the name of the game in the manga, structurally, became keeping Ichigo and Rukia apart.
The moment she was taken back to Soul Society, her prominence dropped. We got emotionally charged scenes of them regardless. Right at the conclusion, after yet another emotionally heavy set of Ichigo and Rukia interactions, we again skip almost a month, from the end of the first week in August of 2001 to September 1, 2001. (Due to some completely unnecessary timey-wimey bullshit with the Precipice World.)
In the Arrancar and Hueco Mundo arcs, they have roughly a day together over the course of three months. What happens after every meeting? They’re shuffled apart and split up, and we cut away. This time, for over a year!
Ichigo and Rukia again have a very emotionally charged meeting in the Xcution arc. And what happens at the end of that arc? We skip ahead another month to TYBW. (Xcution ended sometime in May of 2003, TYBW starts June 11, 2003.)
And in TYBW, Rukia and Ichigo barely meet up at all. Indeed, the focus is scarcely upon them.
In CFYOW, neither of them even appear, let alone have any relevance to the plot.
The implication, in my opinion, is pretty obvious: Noriaki was deathly afraid of dealing with the outcomes of their interactions, and that ultimately became him being deathly afraid of allowing them to interact at all to begin with. Why? Well, as I said in one of the last linked posts:
As an author, sometimes you will find your characters will do things you didn’t anticipate or plan for, and you’ve got two choices: you can go with the flow and do what’s natural and deal, or you can fight it and try and impose your vision anyway.
He refused to let his art take the direction it needed to go in.
Now, some people might say he got bored of them, or of having them together. I say that’s bullshit. And the reason I say is down to three things:
He didn’t ignore them, he did his best to keep them apart. I outlined this above.
He did not emphasize anything or anyone else instead. His focus was all over the place. While, admittedly, Ichigo’s prominence also declined, so did everyone else’s.
It would have served him well to focus on their interactions to expand his universe and explore its lore. The things that were detailed in the databooks and CFYOW could’ve been presented naturally and easily if they were together. But that came with a cost of shifting the focus. A cost he refused to pay.
Let’s talk more about (2) and (3) now.
Regarding (2), Chad and Orihime are inextricably linked in Bleach, because they essentially have the same relationship to Ichigo. “But Orihime loves Ichigo, and Chad is his no-homo bro!” someone proclaims. So what? They’re presented as equal and parallel at every step.
They both gain their powers at approximately the same time.
We are told they gained their powers due to the Hogyouku (in Rukia at the time) interpreting their wishes (and no one else’s, such as Tatsuki, Keigo, or Mizuiro), meaning they probably had the same strength of desire.
They both go to Soul Society “for Ichigo.”
They both utterly fail against Yammy and Ulquiorra.
They both spend most of the Hueco Mundo arc doing nothing.
They are both featured prominently in the Xcution arc, and both fail to see through Tsukishima’s powers despite their love for Ichigo. (Meanwhile, Byakuya coolly tries to murder someone who he thinks is his mentor, in Ichigo’s name.)
They both get sidelined in Hueco Mundo with Kisuke in TYBW, doing little to nothing.
They both are utterly ineffectual in the final fight in TYBW.
They are often portrayed together, they are often as effective as one another, and they are equally as developed in their relationship to Ichigo going forward, which is to say: not at all. The loss of focus on IR did not come with an attendant rise of focus on IH, any more than it did with the sudden rise of IchiChad. Nothing was built in IR’s place. There was no emotional or human content which filled its gap.
This is where the IH ending coming “out of nowhere” stems from: it indeed came out of nowhere, because Ichigo was never shown to have any interest in Orihime in all this time, nor an especially close relationship with her. He never hangs out with Chad or shows a bond with him either. He never hangs out with anyone, in fact. (Indeed, “friends” in Bleach do not do any of the things that friends actually do in real life. Nor do parents. You might say that interpersonal relationships and communication largely don’t exist in Bleach. But that’s its whole own topic.)
I would honestly say that more time and emphasis was given on Ichigo’s pseudo-surrogate mother relationship with Ikumi than was spent on him interacting with Orihime. (I would say Noriaki has serious hangups about relationships of any kind, be they romantic, familial, or friendly, and also has some severe hangups regarding mothers and fathers, but that is also its whole own topic.)
Regarding (3), Noriaki apparently wanted this big, Game of Thrones-style world with a long history and political machinations and so on. This is the whole point of TYBW and CFYOW. Trouble is, early Bleach was successful because of its small-scale intimacy. So how do you go from one to the other? You have to lay the foundations at every step. And Noriaki steadfastly refused to do so at every step. Having Ichigo and Rukia interact, and focusing on Rukia while Ichigo was sidelined without powers, would’ve permitted that organically. Indeed, if RR was the endgame, it would have given time to establish that, were it his desire. (Because Rukia never showed any interest in Renji, and frankly Renji always seemed way more preoccupied with Byakuya.) It didn’t serve his goals, but he did it anyway.
It’s much simpler to say he lost focus, and that he started to hate the manga as a whole. Why else would you have Mayuri fighting a giant hand when that achieved nothing, and Kenpachi fighting Thor when that achieved nothing? It became empty. Hollow, you might say.
But that takes us back to the question you posed: where did the ships come from? Nowhere. IH, RR, and fucking TatsuKeigo weren’t established anywhere. They just appeared. Why?
Well, why did every single character wind up doing the exact opposite of their intended and stated goals in the end?
Why did Soul Society revert to its previous attitude and rebuild the Sokyouku?
Why did nothing get resolved?
Why did nothing change?
Why was it all revealed to have been completely and utterly pointless?
In my view, it’s because that ending was a giant fuck you to the readership and Shueisha. There is no other way to interpret an author pulling a 180° and completely nullifying their characters’ arcs, and their work’s themes. Aizen’s little speech at the end is the cherry on top. I read it as Noriaki saying that he’s showing “courage” in telling us all to fuck off.
As to why? That’s an open question. His relationship with Shueisha was contentious, so maybe he was mad at them. (They gave him a deadline once he was dragging his feet, and reclassified Bleach as a joke manga.) His readership was on the decline after the Soul Society arc ended, so maybe he was mad at the audience. I don’t know. I also don’t really care. What I am convinced of is he decided to blow up his franchise and to not leave a single stone unturned when he did so.
That’s where that “ending” comes from, which is why despite it featuring IH and RR, both are thoroughly unsatisfying and without setup: it was the only way to piss absolutely everyone off, including people who wanted that outcome.
In a way, it was his greatest success since the early days of the manga.
Anyway, this was messy, but it’s not a simple topic to address. The tl;dr is that Bleach was a trainwreck from the very beginning that only succeeded on the merits of its characters, and that Noriaki deliberately avoided the promise it had to be something unique and grand. The ships are just a part of that, and cannot be understood in isolation from it.

(1) Some thoughts I want to share with you: A few days ago a verified Twitter account tweeted about the DOTN trailer and said that "people need to stop trying to make Armie Hammer happen". Then his stans (the 5 of them 😂) started replying to the tweet with hateful stuff (which is not surprising at all) and saying that the author's opinion is dumb because armie "already is happening" in Hollywood and has been acting for over a decade by now.
(2) This made me realize that his stans still don't understand the actual meaning of "trying to make AH happen". The frase Is not related to armie not getting roles in HW, because the truth is that he is already part of it, he is a Hollywood actor and he will continue to get jobs. It actually means that armie has been given the opportunity multiple times to star in big budget films, meaning that the industry wants him to become this huge movie star and yet he has failed to do it.
(3) Mainstream audiences already saw what he has to offer and they were not interested, that's the reason why all his films flop, because people are simply not interested in seeing him in the big screen.
(4) So after all his huge flops, people with common sense wonder why he keeps getting casted in those type of films (like DOTN) and why the industry is still so invested in trying to make him happen (aka became a big movie star) when he should be getting roles in other type of films (low budget/independent films like CMBYN, Free Fire, etc) since he isn't able to provide a box office hit.
(5) Some people say that him being a "good" actor is the reason why he keeps getting constantly casted, but the truth is that HW doesn't care about acting habilities when it comes to box office, they just want actors that provide money (The Rock). The only reasonable explanation to why he keeps getting huge roles is because of white privilege, I mean just look at him.
(6) Also this whole situation is probably the main reason why so many people on Twitter (specially in film Twitter) hate him, they are disgusted of the privilege he has while other more deserving POC actors don't.
Anon, thank you for this message and sorry I didn’t post an answer sooner but there was a lot here to sit and think about, discuss with some pals, before trying to comment with any sort of logical response. I also wanted to wait to see if there was any announcement for who was signed on to play Hawkman from yesterday’s DC Fandome Con, and there wasn’t, sadly. Armie’s name still seems to be floating as a contender for the part, but now also Alexander Skarsgard and Micheal Fassbender have been added to the shortlist as well. For me- and this is purely my personal speculation- I feel this might be Armie’s last chance at making himself “happen”. If he can’t land this role, I can’t imagine there will be too many others in the future that he could be up for, on this level.
I’m not surprised his rabid fans went after this person. That’s how they always react, but it does prove what you are saying- they don’t understand the difference between a “working actor” and being the “It Man” of HW. That’s Tim, he’s definitely “happening”- on the rise and a sought after commodity by many in HW. I mean, neither DOTN or Rebecca are in the top 75 most-anticipated films on Letterboxd, where Tim’s next two films are at the top of the heap. These stans fail to acknowledge they swarm in Armie content because they seek it out and reblog ad infinitum amongst their little ponds on Tumblr and Twitter, but for the rest of the movie-going world, he’s just not a big deal. The “regular viewing audience” looking forward to either Rebecca or DOTN are doing so because they are excited about seeing a remake of a classic in both counts, because DOTN is the next installment in Branagh’s Poirot series. It’s not because of Armie in most cases. And while Dune is also a remake, and anticipated as such to see what Denis can do with it, it’s also a nail-biting wait for a lot of non-Tim stans to see if he can pull it off, the hype to see him as Paul is really amazing to watch grow. TFD has made lots of people anxious to see what he does with Zefferelli, with no one I’ve seen mention any doubt he will be able to hold his own with such a star-studded cast.
Your mention of white privilege is interesting. When you go back and look at all the self-sabotage Armie has done over the years as he continues to get roles pretty consistently, it’s hard to imagine the same being true for someone like Lakeith Stanfield or Daniel Kaluuya if they had said or posted some of the things Armie has done. There is no way anyone of color could have recovered from the toe-sucking vid, or calling someone a cocksucker, or calling out fans, or the grosser allegations of sexual misconduct. They would have been canceled, and rightfully so, but somehow (money, straight-white privilege?) Armie gets a pass. When he makes crude remarks (ie, cocksucker, dick broom) that is not allyship or “testing the waters”, that is homophobic full stop and his privilege allows him to get away with it, time and time again.
I’m sorry, this may have gotten off-topic for you, anon, but again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me, always.

The Feather Represents the Blue Winter Rose on the Show
March 23, 2019
For all its importance in the books as a symbol of the daughters of House Stark and more importantly as a link between Lyanna and Jon as mother and son, there is barely a mention of the blue winter rose on the show. As, R+L=J is probably the most important plot point of both the books and show, one would think that the symbolic blue rose motif would have been included in the latter.
Now yes, we did see glimpses of some blue roses on the show but it was in a most surprising of locations—on the stain glass windows in the throne room at Kings Landing. This is interesting choice of location and it was most likely chosen to indicate that Jon is the rightful Targaryen heir to the Iron Throne. The roses in the windows were shown in the background on four occasions that I can remember.
The first was the scene with Sansa and Septa Mordane when they discussed her marriage to Prince Joffrey; the second occurrence was again with Sansa when the newly crowned Joffrey had her stripped and beaten; the third time was when Tywin rode his horse into the throne room; and of course the last appearance that I remember in Dany’s vision of the destroyed throne room with either snow or ashes falling from above. As an aside, because of Dany's torch, I tend to think that the droppings were ashes and not snow. When she placed her torch on the floor, there wasn't any change to the flame, as one would expect if it were lying in wet snow. However, let’s get back to the topic at hand.
As there were a number of scenes in the throne room, there could have been more sightings of the blue roses that I missed. Nonetheless, those appearances of the symbolic motif were presented as just background noise when one would have expected that because of its importance to the story, its appearance would have been a central plot point.
Surprisingly, Dan and Dave did not go that route and one can’t help but wonder why that was the case. Why did they leave out such an important symbol of Jon’s connection to Lyanna? I think the answer is that they didn’t. They simply changed things on the show and made the motif a feather instead of a rose. I think that they went this route because of their decision not to film the Tourney at Harrenhal. My thinking is that they didn’t film the tourney because they wanted Rhaegar’s connection to Jon via Lyanna to remain a mystery until the latter seasons of the show.
Some will argue that almost everyone knew that Rhaegar was Jon’s dad and so there was no need to hide the linkage by replacing the rose with a feather. To that I would answer that there are still fans who have read the books who don’t believe that R+L=J. More importantly, those of us who have read the books tend to forget that the vast majority of the viewers of the show have not done so and most likely never will. It seems pretty obvious that D&D’s writing are more for those viewers than the rest of us who have read the books. This actually makes sense when you consider that it was these viewers who were blown away by the many surprises in the earlier seasons and who spread the word that GOT was not your typical fantasy story. This was a major contributor to the popularity of the show.
However, while I can see them not wanting to introduce Rhaegar into Jon and Lyanna’s story too early, they still needed a way to connect all three. They seem to have decided that the best way to do so while keeping to the theme in the books was with a motif other than the blue rose. The question then became what and how.
With Ned and Robert being the only two still alive that were directly connected to both Rhaegar, Lyanna and the events of the past, it made sense that they were used to set up the linkage. All that remained was a decision on the choice of motif to use as the replacement for the rose.
They decided to go with a feather and while this may seem like an unfathomable choice for some, I think that the choice was made for the specific reason that it could be tied to Sansa’s arc. So they went with a feather as the motif and had Robert place it on Lyanna’s crypt in the first episode of the series where it sat gathering dust until season 5, episode 4 when it was found by Sansa. What a coincidence!
Sansa finding the feather was not the only coincidence in the scene. There were two others. I could be wrong and if so, please correct me and I will update but I believe that the only reference to flower in the entire series was in this scene when Petyr told Sansa the story about the Tourney of Harrenhal and Rhaegar placing a crown of blue winter roses in Lyanna’s lap. Hmm! Why do we get a reference to the flower for the first and only time at that moment when Sansa is holding the feather that symbolically connects to that particular story via Robert, who placed it on Lyanna’s tomb? The second coincidence in the scene is that Sansa does not place the feather back on Lyanna’s tomb but instead walks out with it in her hand.
As @thelawyerthatwaspromised pointed out in her fabulous breakdown essay on history of the feather and its importance in Sansa and Jon’s arc, the writers then created a throwaway scene between the daughter of Winterfell and Myranda for the sole purpose of showing the audience that Sansa was now wearing the feather as an adornment on her wrist. It is obvious that on the show, the feather represents the blue flower motif from the books and so if she is not meant to be seen as the Blue Winter Rose, why is linked to Sansa both literally and figuratively? I think that their reasoning is really not that difficult to understand.
In both the books and the show, Sansa is symbolically tied to birds and as a result feathers. I believe that this symbolic connection will be shown to be of major importance in the last two books as I discussed in my Alayne Stone essay.
In the books, her connection comes as a result of the Hound branding her with the moniker “little bird.” On the show, he does the same and Cersei also constantly refers to her as little dove. And of course, in season 4, episode 8, we get the full impact of her bird and feather symbolism as “Dark Sansa” makes her debut when she descends the staircase of the Eyrie in the gorgeous black feather dress that she made for herself. But what do Sansa and feathers have to do with the Blue Winter Rose?
Well, as I have argued, I think Sansa Stark is the most symbolic blue winter rose in the story. Yes, all the daughters of House Stark through the ages can be considered symbolic of the blue flower—including the one of Bael the Bard fame, Arya, and of course Lyanna. However, I believe that the one who most symbolize the characteristics of the flower is Sansa as I discussed in my Of Sansa Stark and the Glass Menagerie essay series. In fact, I think that while the sweet smelling blue flower in the crack in the Wall from Dany’s vision is about Lyanna as Jon’s mother, it is quite possibly more indicative of Sansa and her connection to Jon.
Part of the reason for this opinion as I discussed in the Glass Menagerie essay is the belief that the jonquil flower is symbolically representative of the blue winter rose. In ancient times, it was actually considered a rose. In fact, many biblical scholars believe that it is the famous Rose of Sharon referenced in the biblical poem, Song of Songs or as it is also known, the Song of Solomon.
The famous poem is a romantic celebration of the sexual love between a young couple. However, at its heart, it is also tells the story of the seasonal renewal of the land. Many biblical scholars are of the opinion that this Song of Songs tells a story that is very similar to the ones of various ancient cultures wherein the fertility of the earth is dependent on a sexual encounter between a man and a woman—generally godlike deities.
One interesting thing about the Rose of Sharon referenced in the poem is the description of the ancient location from where it received its name. This is the description of ancient Sharon.
The Plain of, the area where the coastal plain widens south of the slopes of Mt. Carmel, extending about thirty miles south to the Yarkon River north of Joppa. It varies from about eight to twelve miles in width. In Israelite times, the dunes supported an impenetrable oak forest. Pastureland would have been on the fringe of the forest (1 Chr 27:29). The rose of Sharon is kind of a crocus growing as a “lily among brambles” (Song 2:1-2). Thus the biblical picture of Sharon is a forbidding jungle of oaks and swampy marshes rather than a fertile or productive plain.
Society of Biblical Literature
The description of the Plains of Sharon is extremely similar to that of the River Styx and it’s surrounding marshy landscape. In ancient Greek mythology, Styx was the name given to the river that led to the domain of Hades. He of course was the Lord of the Underworld who kidnapped Persephone from the Vale of Nysa while she was out picking flowers. And it just so happens that the flowers that were used by Hades to entice the young goddess and bring her into his clutches was none other than the narcissus jonquilla or in other words, the ancient rose. Today’s modern roses are hybrids and look nothing like their ancient counterparts.
As has been suggested by many in the fandom, through her abduction by Petyr Baelish, he of the demonic last name, Sansa is the symbolic Persephone of the story. Petyr even attempts to tempt her with a slice of pomegranate as Hades did with the mythical daughter of Demeter and Zeus.
I mentioned this bit about Persephone and the Rose of Sharon to show that Sansa is symbolically connected to the both the jonquil flower as well as to the ancient in-story character who bears its name. I am of course speaking of the mysterious woman from Florian and Jonquil fame. The real world myths about the jonquil flower along with textural clues…including the drawing of the famous pair that appears in The Hedge Knight have led me to the conclusion that the ancient Jonquil was the original Blue Winter Rose of House Stark.
As I’ve stated, based on how it has been used on the show, it seems obvious that he feather motif is playing the part of the blue winter rose in the story. If Jonquil was indeed the original Blue Winter Rose, it could also explain why the feather is so closely connected to Sansa in the show. However, this raises a question.
If the blue sweet smelling flower in the crack in the Wall that Dany saw in her vision is meant to signify her connection to Jon and their future marriage as many in the fandom argue is the case, shouldn’t the feather as the stand-in for the winter rose on the show be tied to her? Why isn’t the feather connected to Dany? Curious, don’t you think! If further proof is needed that the true romantic arc in the story is not Jon and Dany but rather Jon and Sansa then there is no greater evidence than the feather. And as Sansa is never shown returning the feather, it means that she still has it.
There is one last thing that I want to discuss before I end. If Sansa is the Blue Winter Rose, a fact that on its basic level cannot be argued with as she is a daughter of House Stark; and if the feather is the playing the part of the flower on the show—meaning that Sansa should also be seen as the feather; then what is the symbolic importance of it freezing in the teaser as it applies to Sansa?
I proposed that it implies that Sansa is in danger not just from the actions of Cersei as things come to a close but also from the Night King. Yes, everyone is in danger from the White Walkers but my tinfoil is that Sansa faces a specific threat from the Night King and that is what is implied with the freezing of the feather and Arya and Jon pulling their weapons and stepping protectively in front of her.
Now, the scene of the three in the crypts won’t be in the show. Rather like the first teaser it is meant to set up the theme of the season. The first teaser with ice and fire meeting over the Trident on Aegon’s Painted Table is meant to show the theme of the danger that both forces will pose to the realm. And I think that the second is meant to showcase the danger of the White Walkers to the Starks as a whole and possibly to Sansa in particular.
For this reason, I am most curious to find out what is on the scroll that Sophie mentioned was given to her by the prop guy as a keepsake of the show. I think that it’s quite possible that the scroll in question was the one Sam was shown taking from the Citadel and that once revealed, the contents will have something to do with Sansa…maybe even a drawing of an ancient woman that looks like her. My tinfoil is that it will be a drawing with a face that is similar to the one in Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus.” Just three more weeks to go to find out whether my theories end up being pure tinfoil or whether I’m onto something in regards to the books and overall story. Can’t wait to find out!

It had to come to this...
Hello followers and friends.
So, back when tumblr made its very dubious policy move to become a Site For The Eyes of Children without actually addressing the problem, I figured its days were numbered. I got irritated, hadn’t been having a lot of consistent fun on the website anyway, and began to look elsewhere. So far, there really isn’t a viable tumblr alternative, though pillowfort and mastodon both seem to have their merits. I’ve been spending most of my time on twitter and a little bit on dreamwidth.
However, since tumblr’s slow demise (that I still think may happen in the future) didn’t happen quite as quickly as I thought it might, I decided to go about making a new tumblr to ride out what may come. There are a couple of reasons for this.
1) I had considered making a fresh start in the past, but this blog had become such a time capsule of my time on the internet and the Earth in general that I had a lot of emotional sunk cost in it. However, when it seemed like tumblr might take aim at random blogs from orbit for having too many pictures of sand dunes or something, I found a really nifty backup utility that allowed me to create an absolutely ginormous backup of everything I’d ever posted on this silly website to the date that I backed it up. That makes it so that I really don’t have any fear of losing anything I might later come to regret anymore, given that my backup file doesn’t go poof, and by that time, I imagine I might have bigger problems. Therefore, it seemed like as good a time as any to make a clean break while any good was left to be had out of this website, come what may.
2) On that note, giving up the followers I had here as reliable viewers of content seemed like a big ask at one point. I have over 800, but honestly? People talked to me more when I hovered beneath 200. I think that I gained most of my followers during that halcyon summer of 2014 right after Captain America; The Winter Soldier came out. We didn’t have an orange fascist as President here in the United States, people were happy, things were as decent as they’ve been in recent memory in terms of the zeitgeist, and everyone was doing happy positivity promoing contests, and I was in on a wave of happy fandom. Then... really... that follower count became a fluctuating mass that just sort of created a lot of anxiety for me. If you’re reading this and we’re not personal friends (who are in a different category obviously anyway), please don’t think I mean you, specifically. Rather, I mean the dozens upon hundreds of people who at some point clicked that follow button only to abandon their blogs later or to continue to tolerate me despite no contact and despite no interest in anything I ever posted. Despite my follower count, I generally get/got notes from the same 25~ or so people unless it was activity from something I posted in a tag as original content and got lucky. But then, anytime I posted ANYTHING I would lose followers. It was a recipe for second-guessing myself after that particular following-culture changed. I no longer covet a huge, imposing number if those people don’t really wanna engage with me or my interests.
3) Over time, my interests have expanded, contracted, morphed, and evolved, and if you’ve been here for a long time, you probably know what I return to most-frequently. However, I find that in 2011, I was an extremely western, live-action-centric fanperson. Often, people who consume only that media feel a certain kind of way about anime, and I can’t say I blame them for Anime Culture at large. However, in the time since about 2015, big parts of my fan-life have been centered around a very short list of specific anime. However, I think a lot of my casual followers sort of judged book by cover and aesthetic and jumped ship. Starting over will allow me to gain followers only on the merits of the kind of content I post now, anime, live action, text posts, and all, without worrying about upsetting expectations from over five years ago.
And I think those are the big, main ones.
So, I’ve decided to archive this blog.
Before I go, I would like to use my largest follower count on any website to ask for good vibes and prayers for one thing, though: As I write this, my dad is at the hospital. He is in stable, fairly himself-seeming condition except for an ongoing headache. However, the reason for this headache is that he suffered from a subdural hematoma, a bleed between the skull and the outermost lining of the brain. If the body heals itself, then he should return to normal. However, they are keeping him for observation to see if they need to intervene in order to get the bleed to drain. I’m very worried, and I have an excellent relationship with my father I’m very thankful for. He is one of my best friends, and I honestly don’t have local friends except my parents. So, if you pray or anything like that, I would very much appreciate your remembering him. I still need him around a lot. Finally dealing with this blog thing is basically just a way for me to do something while waiting around for it to be morning enough to hear if there’s any news even though he was fine when I left.
If you want to find me, here are some handy links. If you bothered to read this, I don’t mind you following along. However, please be mindful that I am going to try to keep my follower count reflective of people I actually might mutually interact with, so don’t feel pressured to.

There are a handful of people I’m going to go ahead and follow over there because I’ve known and talked to them. If I miss you, please don’t be offended and feel free to find me there. If you choose to let this be your parting of the ways with me, I wish you all the best.
Thank you, dear March 2011 tumblr and friends, for the long haul.
