@jilliancantor When I was in #highschool I hated #thegreatgatsby like so many others. A few years back, @rider_strong mentioned on his & friends podcast #literarydisco that it’s better as an adult. I was not buying it. However, I HAD to buy #beautitullittlefools once I finished it from the @alamedafreelibrary, because it’s so amazing. I then went to @booksinc_alameda and got my own copy of #gatsby to finally read again. It’s such a wake up call to pay attention and not get caught up in nonsense. In the #1920s, it was money. Today, it can be #socialmedia or a large number of issues we discuss on these platforms. Maybe it’s a warning to focus on reality, not get too caught up in our own dreams (if they involve people uninterested in being in them.) Maybe it’s something else. It’s open to interpretation and perhaps that’s why it failed intially, because no one wanted to interpret it. Maybe the book critics were the rich people #fscottfitzgerald criticized and they were mad at him. All I know now is I adore your book and my relationship with the #theoriginal is still complicated, and probably always will be. I don’t dislike it, but it’s not a pleasant read, but it’s an important one. As is yours.
