Sometimes I think Tumblr beautifulhead fuckery is done. Shoelaces, ballpits, bonestealing witches--that was the before time, and we are living on nostalgia.

And then you hit casual mentions of

"Discourse about whether it's antisemitic for non-Jews to call their feet pics Goblin-like"

From 2020, and it's like nope. Our tolerance just went up.

My hot take about bat-flipping-nuts discourses is that their most important characteristic is that they are inevitable, that honestly they are on balance relatively healthy and good things to occasionally indulge in, you just need to walk away when it gets too much,

and that the horror and harm they represent now is a product of how all our primary social networks are “people-based” instead of “place-based”, which makes people-themselves (or if you want to be technical about it, makes 90% of the sum total of “how a person represents themselves on the site”) into the topology of the network.
