I usually watch K-drama series. But I found a Korean drama movie to watch called “Love, Lies” (2016).

WARNING!! DO NOT watch this movie if you don't want to be bummed out!

I know K-drama always have love triangle. But this is the saddest love story I have ever seen in my life! And I have watched a lot of movies over the years.

It takes place during the Japanese occupation of Korea or rather Joseon (1943).

Two girls ~ Jung So-yul (played by Han Hyo-joo), and Seo Yeon-hee (played by Chun Woo-hee) ~ who have beautful voices were raised to be “artists”. (That's what they were told. They both found out later that they were just beautified to be “artful prostitutes” for the Japanese men.)

One young Korean man ~ Kim Yoon-woo (played by Yoo Yeon-seok0 ~ who is a song-writer. But he writes popular songs for the common people ~ “Joseon's Heart”. Not the traditional music (jeongga, or classical Korean songs) the girls have been trained to sing for the upper class Korean society and the Japanese.

He says he is in love with one girl but then he meets her best friend.

I won't tell you how this story unfolds but it was so so so so so so so so so so so so … painful!!

Some reviewers criticized the movie in a bad way. I disagree. I thought the acting was superb and by the end of the movie, my heart was broken. I was totally shattered.

On the plus side:

The scenery, the costumes, especially the traditional Hanbok clothing and the modern westernized clothing that both ladies wore were gorgeous and very stylish. Their hairstyles whether long hair or short hair was beautiful!! Also, I really liked the album covers. Both ladies released an album with them singing and the artwork for both album covers is incredible!

In fact, that's how the movie begins. Some people found an old album and wanted to know the whole story behind it.

Super Short Reviews: winter tv part three (and last) 2019:

Perfume (Netflix) – Germany.   Another knock out murder mystery from Germany, this one is so dark its similar to the Swedish mysteries.  Strong ensemble cast; its clear from the beginning that the disturbing murder is only scratching the surface of many more bad deeds of the past.  Naughty naughty!

Informer (Amazon) – UK.  Paddy Constantine is as loveable as ever as a CI handler who waffles between looking grumpy and lost.  His partner looks like a child who cant decide which is more surprising – that she’s an actor at all, or that she was cast on a show about terrorists.  But the star here is Nabhaan Rizwan with his dreamy leading man eyes and biting street smart wit.  He makes this show.  Werk!!

Diablero (Netlix) – Mexico.  The priest looks like Michael Buble which I found exceptionally amusing and distracting. I couldn’t tell from the first 2 episodes if the actors just hadn’t settled into their demon hunting roles yet, or the director couldn’t decide what style he was going for.  If they land in the B-movie horror camp I think people could enjoy it.

Deadly Class (SyFy) – Based on the graphic novel.  I especially dig the 80s music and the Henry Rollins.  You don’t have to be a teeneager to enjoy this – since it takes place during the Regan administration rule, Gen-x viewers will likely get way more of the references than Gen-z. Benedict Wong has great fun as the principal of this school for assassins and Lara Condor is a gem as his star pupil.  She even wears a Bad Religion t-shirt in one episode.  It was not an historically correct t-shirt but hey at least they tried.

Wayne (YouTube) – 16 year old me would have been OBSESSED with this show, so if you fall into that age group please enjoy the crap out of it for me.  This kid makes more trouble in the first episode than most kids do their entire lives. Also anything that makes fun of Southies is great by me.  Funny, sad, dark, and awesome -- and huge props to Mark McKenna who takes on the dialect like a native.  (And he was also in one of my favourite movie ever Sing Street!! blatant plug)

Selection Day (Netflix) – India.  I don’t understand cricket so it took me a minute to get into this... but when the two boys (played by Mohammed Samad and Yash Dhohle) get to stretch their emotional wings my heart was bowled into rooting for them. (Lame attempt at a cricket pun.)  Plus who doesn’t love a little magical realism?

The Other Two (Comedy Central) – I laughed.  Its a send up of childhood overnight youtube stardom, and crazy people in loveable but crazy New York.   Plus Molly Shannon and Ken Marino -- Who doesnt love those two crazies?

Demon’s Path  (Netflix) – Hong Kong.  You know when you were in junior high / high school and you made bad home movies with people that couldn’t really act and dialogue that wasn’t really good?  This is a lot like that.  How is a 16 year old on the police force?  Its impossible to make a supernatural story line work with goofy acting … but maybe Hong Kong, like Korea, doesn’t consider this goofy acting. Maybe they think all our shows are goofy acting.  I dunno.

Black Earth Rising (Netflix) – UK. This is super heavy.  You’ve got the Rwandan genocide, the war in the Congo, a big trial at the Hague, and some mysterious events of the past that John Goodman knows but will never tell.  Bonus: Harriet Walter!

Four More Shots Please (Amazon) – India.  These people are actually speaking English most of the time but if you’re like me you’ll need to turn the subtitles on. Plot:  Four plucky young women traverse life and love (or at least sex) in Mumbai. Style: It’s not quite SATC but there is a dance number!!  (duh its Mumbai!)

Justice (Netflix) – UAE.  The genre is legal procedural.  But the style is almost soap opera.  And the music is all over the place.  Confusing.  Still, Fatima Al Taei makes a strong case (pun intended) for herself as a young, intelligent, female lead, and the stories highlight the complex struggles between traditionalism and modernism.  Netflix’ first Emirati show.  

Sex Education (Netflix) – UK. Tempting to describe this using only emojis (ha ha ha!)  But seriously, Asa Butterfield has grown up to be the awkward-ish high school son to Gillian Anderson’s single sex therapist mother. Sooooooo fun to see Gillian in a comedic role!! (and a mod haircut to boot.)  Emma Mackey and Ncuti Gatwa shine as the best friends ready to drive or support any potentially comedic ‘therapy.’

Sydney to the Max (Disney) – Yay Caroline Rhea!  Another one for the teeny boppers; this show centers on the cute juxtaposition of a girl in seventh grade and her dad’s memories of the same grade in 1992.  The girl acts waaaaaay younger than my seventh grader, but hey, maybe these people live in some nice hubba bubblea suburb.  

Kingdom (Netflix) – Korea.  Visually beautiful –  a lot like the Japan episode of Westworld.  Government factions fight each other – a lot like the Japan episode of Westworld.  Beautful people do monstrous things – a lot like the Japan episode of Westworld.   But how you know that its NOT the Japan episode of Westworld is howwwwww slooooooooow eeeeeeveryyyyyyone iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis.  I wonder if Koreans think everyone on our shows talk way too quickly.  

I Am The Night (TNT) – actually a mini-series but I’m throwing it in here anyway  cuz I enjoyed it. Patty Jenkins and Chris Pine reunite to tell a story (mostly fictional) of the real Fauna Hodel and the really bizarre people she meets as she tries to discover who her real family is.  I loved the 1960s detailed pictures (shot on Kodak film) of Los Angeles and  India Eisley is great in her wounded kitten portrayal of Fauna.

i think it will be a bit too embarrassing to write a love letter so i shall just write whatever comes to my mind!

the first time i saw donghan, i think it was on twt where people were still speculating who is gonna be on the show and stuff (and i was curious because some of the people they said were people i was very interested in) and i saw a photo of him~ when i saw him i was like wooooOOOO he’s a beaut! my two other friends and i were looking up the people we saw and i think i found his instagram and just absentmindedly follow him? because i remember later on my friend sent me his ig and i was already following him and i didn’t know him before that so... yeah thats the only how i saw it lol (he was the first pd101 boy i followed on ig! i followed him when he was at like 10k followers heh kenta was second~) on the things i aw on twt about him i saw that he was a part of busking group D.O.B so i just searched for their videos to peep them but i ended up watching all the donghan focused fancams from this fansite because ??? idk lol they danced really well and i was there for donghan so naturally i watched his fancams and he was a great dancer so i just watched all the videos swdeswdeanywho! the one video i remember looking at on his ig and thinking “yes this is the one i shall stan” (i think i even said it to my gc lmao) was the video with the chicken filter that he deleted now :( BUT I THOUGHT HE WAS OLDER TBH donghan did not look like he was a 98 liner i thought he’d be like 96 or 95? so when his profile was released i was very shocked he was a 98 liner lmao when the naya na video was released i was scared that he wasnt gonna get screentime on the show because i didnt see him much in that video but the first ep came out and he got decent enough screentime? i was excited but of course lmao mnet doesnt like happiness and he was barely seen for the rest of the eps after that until the like last one or two before he was eliminated. i remember in episode one when he was talking to ong i was like damn donghan probably gonna be up that guys ass (little did i know that i was wrong lmao) but also after episode one (or was it two?) a lot of g/g stans were hating on donghan and saying theyre gonna anti him because of something he said and i will never not be angry about this and how rude they were to him about something as stupid as this. you know what he said? donghan said that he likes the boys visuals more than the girls visuals. yes, he got a lot of hate for saying that lmao i remember some i/o/i stans made threads with their caption as something dumb like “since that ugly pd101 boy thinks that i/o/i are ugly heres a thread on blah blah blah” like he didnt say he was ugly he said he liked the male visuals more. it just really bothered me that because he, a as guy, said that he liked the guys looks more, people were hating on him because ?? he should only think girls are pretty?? he didnt say anything to condescend the girls he didnt call them ugly or anything like those stans were implying but yet still they called him a crackhead, ugly, stupid, said they hate him, would anti him an all those things because he said he think the boys are more attractive. idk where im going from this lol but i really love and adore donghan! everytime hes clingy and affectionate to the members it just makes me feel so... happy? i personally am not that touchy with people so i see it as someone who is really comfortable and adore those around them so it warms my heart to see donghan so comfortable with the other members. even with D.O.B’s leader he was really clingy with him and i think thats what really brought me in man, i lOVE seeing it makes me so happy to know he has people he feels comfortable to be around. when he made it into the 35th position i was so thankful but when he said that he was thankful to be given the chance because he ‘didn’t want to leave the hyungs and friends he made’ on the show it really made my heart feel heavy because he barely made it into the top 35 and i saw how fans were acting to get their faves to debut i just had a strong feeling he wasnt going to make it ESPECIALLY because he has a lot of overseas fans in japan and china but they couldn’t vote for him because intl fans couldnt vote. when he was eliminated i didnt cry at first cause i kinda expected it (dummy head went and liked a photo on ig before the eliminations was aired) but after a while i was thinking about what would happen to him, if he would debut because i didnt know of any other trainees besides the ones on the show but sungwook changed paths to a model so i only knew him and daehyeon and i didnt know if oui had more trainees? so i was like, how much longer would it take for them to debut? would he have a successful debut? then on arirang radio with him a daehyeon he said that they were planning to debut early next year and i had hope for that (not really JBJ at the time like idk JBJ was so much of a dream come true i didn’t think it was possible lol it was too good to be true) but then he debuted in JBJ and im seeing so many people love and support him and im so happy for that like thats all i wanted lol i just wanted him to be supported on pd101 which he did get! but it was like, people didnt stan him you feel? they knew of him and liked his dancing and thought he was handsome but they didnt really give him actual support? i hope that doesnt make me sound ungrateful for the support he did get because i am so ever greatful!! but im even more grateful to see him being loved and appreciated while he is actually living his dream! i love donghan soooooo much he means the world to me and i would hate to see him sad so im sooo ever grateful people gave him the chance to be in JBJ with the members who care for him! at one point i felt a lil sad that i couldnt do anything for him like during pd101, i couldnt go out and put up banners, i couldnt give out flyers, i dont even live in korea and i cant even speak korean i felt like i couldnt do muh to help him and it made me feel like a bad fan lmao but i did get a few anons talking to me about how much they love him and that i got them into donghan and it made me feel soooo happy that i couldve given him just that little much~ i love love love donghan i want nothing but the best for him and if i ever could meet him.... i dont even know what id do lmao id love to tell him how proud i am of him and that im so glad hes gotten to where he is now but id also like to tell him that i loooooove him and would gladly die for him and even be his wife if he asked heh ;)

— ( jennie kim. cisfemale. she/her. ) have you met ( veronica jeon ) yet? the ( twenty-one ) year old ( artist / beauty vlogger )? yeah, we shared a cab and now i’m late but can you blame me? ( she ) is so ( talented ), but now i see what they mean about ( her ) being a bit too ( presumptuous ).

BACKGROUND + TRIGGER WARNINGS: daddy/mommy issues

okkkk, this is veronica. also known as ronnie (but she doesn’t care what you call her whoop diddy doo.) she was born and raised in south korea. but, she has stereotypical strict korean parents. and they moved her out to america in hopes that she’d become more successful than them. her father and mother are owners of a cafe/bakery. they live a normal upper-middle class lifestyle. but they’ve always wanted more... therefore, they pushed a lot of their hopes and dreams onto veronica since she’s their only child. their dream was for her to become a surgeon.

so, they sent her off to school (which lands her in williamsburg) once she turned to eighteen and paid for everything. her apartment, her school, etc. they even sent her money so she could focus on her studies instead of working. so, yes, she’s spoiled in that sense. (but it gets dark just wait) at first, she just went with the flow of being forced into becoming a surgeon. however, while spending more time in williamsburg she realized she wanted to do something else. something that actually made her happy.

ronnie always had an artistic eye. drawing was something that always set her heart on fire. but her parents never approved of this because.... an art major?? god forbid!! but, thanks to the influence of a close friend (probably ronnie’s first friend in williamsburg) they convinced her to do what makes her happy. because what’s the point of hating your job for the rest of your life?

eventually, she switched her major and she was super nervous. why? ‘cause she was actually turning her hobby into her potential career. but a week passed, then the month, and she was completely in love with what she was doing. she was even able to sell some of her art! she started expanding her knowledge on how to go about making a legitimate career by drawing. and while this was all overwhelming, it was also way more exciting.

now, she was making her own money. plus some from her parents. but of course, art wasn’t the only thing she liked. she began to develop a love for makeup as well. she always had a steady hand, which made learning makeup pretty easy. so, she found two things she loves. art and makeup! she even decided to create a youtube channel for her makeup. (and also to promote her art shows of course.) so three sources of income!

but guess what ---- her parents found out. and they were not happy. they felt betrayed and disappointed. because how could their pride and joy chose happiness over stability?? this ultimately lead them to cutting her off completely. stopped paying for her rent, school, and just stopped talking to her all together. so, she was left completely alone to fend for himself. luckily, she didn’t struggle too much. she was making good money through her youtube channel and her art.

but wait, it’s not that simple. (it never really is) since, ronnie isn’t a u.s. citizen she eventually had to go back to korea. but she didn’t want to face her parents. not after all the drama. but she also knew applying for citizenship would take awhile. she was running out of time. sooo, she did the only thing she could do and married her longterm american boyfriend for a visa!! (i’ll probably make a wanted connection for him) yeah, she’s a married woman. technically. but not a lot of people know that. she just calls him her boyfriend!!

PERSONALITY + RELATIONSHIPS

PERSONALITY wise, she is charismatic, creative, and intelligent. she’s one of those people that set their mind to something and goes through with it until the end. however, stubborn, sarcastic, and big headed. because anyone who tells her she can’t do it, she’ll prove wrong no matter what. no. matter. what. but she’s slowly growing out of her tough head of hair and morphing into a young woman so beautiful over the years, but also at times, terrifying?? self destructive?? even if she’ll never let anyone see her deteriorate her insides sigh. basically she’s a hot mess. but she tries her best to hide that shit. yeye sweg.

when it comes to FRIENDS ronnie can always use loads of friends! she possess the qualities of a good friend loyal, honest, trustworthy. however, she is stubborn and egocentric so people might not want to be around her? she still wants a shit ton of friend. she kinda has that mom friend vibe. she plans out their day, makes sure they stay on task, looks both ways before crossing the street, etc etc. but… she’s most likely the youngest of the group. considering the fact she just turned twenty-one. so, mostly everyone has the need to protect her at all costs. but she ends up being the protector instead. she loves deeply and cares deeply. she would literally give up the world for the people she cares about the most. she likes to keep to herself most of the time, because she knows it keeps her out of drama. but she can still kick it with people who get themselves into drama (does that make sense??) you can say, she tends to hangout with the wrong people sometimes. rip. maybe because she wants to believe people r good (even though she knows they aren’t lol.) overall, i would say she needs a lot of friends. LOVE THIS LIL SMOL BEAN.

ENEMIES... i don’t really think she has any, but she might. deep deeeeep deeeeeeeeep down the girl is trust issue central when it comes to letting people in. she can’t help it. she has abandonment issues thanks to her parents. therefore, she might come off as standoff-ish to new people. she keeps her circle tight. so maybe they think she’s cliquey? or she could have pushed people away. she’s like that one rihanna meme, them: you can’t just cut people off. ronnie: *holds a pair of scissors* she doesn’t have problem with letting people go. so maybe people think she’s a bitch because, “how could you just drop our five year long friendship like that.” and she’d just shrug. but really, she’s hurting beyond repair and will go home crying while eating a thing of ben & jerry’s chunky monkey. and there’s always that possibility where a friendship just didn’t work out. maybe they just stopped having time for each other and now it’s just mad awk. whatever it is, an enemy would b beaut.

as for LOVERS. veronica has most definitely dated a lot. she’s had a handful of serious relationships as well. and she most definitely does believe in love. thus making this girl is a hopeless romantic. (she’s a soft bitch on the down low) she just needs lots of love in her life. and her husband would totally tear down her big headed/tough bitch exterior and show how soft ronnie can really be. how is ronnie in relationships you may ask? she’d be very loyal to anyone she’s dating. she’d spoil them with gifts, surprise visits, and honestly just give them the whole world. they’d be the only person who’d be able to tell this bitch to stop acting so unreasonable. and *gasp* she’d actually listen. i feel like she’s the type to do whatever she needs to do to please her significant other. sad, but it’s true. she’s not as independent as she makes herself out to be. but everybody needs somebody. am i right?

☆ veronica is: overall ronnie is a big ol’ fluff ball. the world sees her as a princess dressed in black and pink. an absolute doll. charming, cute, and talented. she seems like the full package. an absolute angel to her small group of fans, acquaintances, and etc…. but anyone who really knows her, knows the girl has some bad abandonment issues thanks to her parents. my muse inspo is a mix of harley quinn, blair waldorf, and rick sanchez. YIKES. cause this makes her hella chaotic. anyways, give her girl scout cookies and she’ll love you til the end of time. she’s not as lame as she portrays herself to be and is actually a pretty rad chick. veronica jeon is overall a beautiful, driven, stubborn, egocentric, opinionated, artistic, and truly a mess for someone who seems to have it all figured out.

Tag game

I was tagged by @generalelectricllama to name 10 songs (just going to be honest it may very easily wind up being 20) I love and pass the game on. no particular order here.

1. Dance Dance by Day 6. This one is one of those fast paced and fun songs that was way to easy to fall in love with. I can’t help but sing along when I hear it.

2. When it Rains by paramore. Okay I’ll admit I kind of went into the vault for this one. The entire Riot album was a serious part of my growing up and finding myself it was hard for me to get through my life from day to day but music helped me cope.

3. I’m not okay I promise by my chemical romance. This was another one of those albums that I listened to religiously as a teenager and I still own it. I have had that thing for 12 years and I am honestly surprised that it isn’t broken right around the mark for this track. I think the biggest reason I liked this song was that it said the exact things I wanted to scream at everyone back then. I wasn’t okay and there was no amount of sugarcoating that would change it.

4. Moonlight Sonata Beethoven. Okay okay so it isn’t a song in the way most people think of it,but I am a sucker for this one. Also for Clair de Lune and any of Yiruma’s work too. There is something so beautiful about pianos and the way that even without words they can enthrall and enrapture a person.

5. I am you you are me by zico. To be honest I have a habit of being very wide ranging when it comes to music and I think that is what drew me to this song of zico’s. It was a total headspin compared to what I was used to hearing from him with things like Tough Cookie, Boys and Girls (which is a bop idc what anyone says), and Okie Dokie. I couldn’t help but love everything about the feel of the song. This song is perfect for those lightly rainy days where you just want to sit on the porch and listen to something with a chill vibe.

6. Born Hater by Epik High. Okay if we don’t know this by now Eonniemin is a very angry/depressed/ sarcastic individual and this song kind of hits on some of those levels. its catchy and funny and who doesn’t like epik high and a high octane ensemble of rapping Korean men acting out a funny and unique take on the seven deadly sins. 

7. Intro: Serendipity by Jimin of BTS I couldn’t help but include this one. Jimin’s voice and the lyrics and concept behind this one were completely breathtaking. The first time I heard it I wanted to cry because it was just so musically stunning and it is one of those songs that can make you feel like you aren’t alone.

8. Reila by the GazzettE. Okay so I can honestly say I have been listening to world music for a long time and this group overtakes any love that I have for kpop artists ten times over. This song, Guren, and Cassis are honestly three of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my life. 

9. Work Song by Hozier. Honestly I just like Hozier in general. He is a very unique artist and has this bluesy vibe that I have really missed in music lately. I would alson reccommend From Eden, Someone New, Cherry Wine, and Like real people do by him as well. These are all great songs of his but work song just kind of took the cake for me out of all of them.

10. See the Light by Got7. Most people if they know me and the memories I have attached to it probably would have expected me to choose confession song if I chose anything for got7 but there is something special about this song and its ‘sequel’ Let me. Mark had a hand in writing both of these songs and I think he did an exceptionally beautiful job. If you are going to listen to no other got7 song in your entire life I would 110% recommend this one.
