After two or so months living in this town, Nico was sure it must be some point of concern that he’d not yet made a significant amount of friends-- or, at least, acquaintances, because he wasn’t a child. In any case, it was probably best he remedy that, and though his initial plan had been to buy people drinks at some of the local bars, he didn’t necessarily want to go through the motions of assuring whomever it was that, no, he didn’t want to have sex (not really).
So here he was at the park, seated in the grass with a sketchbook open on his lap. He had oil pastels with him, the tips of his fingers and sides of his hands stained with hues of all sorts, and seemed to be deep in concentration colouring whatever it was he was colouring.
Until someone walked past him, their shadow obscuring his drawing considerably and forcing him to look up.
“Hey,” he said, and fortunately there wasn’t a hint of irritation in there at all. Nico put the pastel back down into its place, lifted his hand to scratch at his cheek, and ignored the fact there was now a streak of teal lost in the stubble along his jaw. “Yeah. Hi. Sorry if this is weird, but I’ve been drawing backgrounds...” And a good look at his pad would show a luminescent, glowing forest at sunrise-- teal grass and lilac trees and clouds the colour of cotton candy. “...but I’m not sure what I should colour the sky.
“So.” Nico shrugged his shoulders, lifting the pad up and showing what he had so far entirely. “What do you think I should make it?”
Not his best pick up line, he decided, but he was sure the bar for friendship wasn’t quite so high. Probably.

Maggie sat in the waiting room of the doctor’s office, reading a magazine while her mother met with one of her many health care professionals. Her newfound duty as care giver was even more boring than she’d anticipated and she was almost relieved when she recognized the person who walked into the nearly empty room. “Hey,” she said casually, looking up from her magazine as if no time had passed at all.

Noreen had put the entire day aside for Pokémon Go. She had shinies to find, a whole new generation to prepare for, and eggs to hatch. To aid her on her quest, she’d paid her driver extra to cruise around at 6mph. She’d been stopped twice so far and told to speed it up, but did she care? No. Now she was out stretching her legs and people watching. “Hey, probably a tall order, but is there a Starbucks around?” she asked the nearest passerby, “Or like... anywhere that can make me a half-decent frappuccino. It’s been a long day.”

She was doing what she did almost every day of the week; lost in her thoughts, listening to music, and taking a long drag of her cigarette. Her dark eyes staring at the notebook that laid in her lap, in her other hand was a pencil. She had been sketching the faces of strangers as they walked past her in the park.

On days like these, where the sun no longer hid behind the clouds and the heat of the rays beat down and felt warm against your skin, Addison liked to take long walks with his aunt and uncle’s dog, Benny, and enjoy the blue skies while it lasted. Benny was a friendly, but rather large golden retriever that loved to run off leash, so when the streets were mostly empty, Addison let him. He ambled slowly down the road, Benny’s leash hung around his neck as the dog trotted a few feet ahead of him. Had he noticed the figure a little a ways down the road Addison would have grabbed Benny by the collar, but by the time he noticed the dog was well ahead of him, bounding down the sidewalk toward the person at the end of the road.
Addison whistled loudly as he picked up his speed from a stroll to a slight job. “Aw, c’mon, Benny! Let ‘em be!” He shouted, pulling the leash from off his shoulders. “Sorry ‘bout that,” he said through bated breath once he had caught up, “he’s real friendly, thinks everyone wants to pet ‘em though.” Addison said, pulling Benny away by the collar, “Ain’t that right, boy?”

“It’s all good, I’m fine,” he said with a shrug, though he was wincing slightly in pain at the movement. Note to self: maybe stop pissing people off. “But let me tell you, people don’t appreciate bein’ told to just pour their so-called ‘fine champagne’ on the floor. Too bad, would’ve tripled the value of the entire property.”

“C'est à boire à boire à boire, c'est à boire qu'il nous faut !” she sang at the top of her lungs, slurring her words just the slightest bit - not that many of the other patrons would notice. The words were repeated a few times before she settled back into English, beaming at the person next to her at the bar, “So yeah. That’s the biggest drinking song where I’m from. I always say, drinking... traditions are the best traditions.”

It was back breaking work, even if she loved it. Jolene was in the process of turning every inch of her father’s dead, unloved lawn into an oasis for bees and worms and butterflies as well as a point of pride for her to say she made happen when it all bloomed. She also knew that her father wouldn’t hate staring out at a beautiful garden as he sat on the porch.
Between shifts and tending to the old man, she was knee deep in dirt or travelling around looking for fun seeds and testing out the best fertilizer. She admittedly went a little crazy today, as she had a wagon filled with bags of fertilizer and grass seed as well as a box or two heavy with different seeds -- and a crate of fresh apples that she couldn’t say no to when offered. There was help inside, but being that they were short on staff, Jolene was left on her own to load it into the back of her father’s truck. Sure, she tried, but lacked the upper body stregnth on her own. That was when she saw someone walking by and with her broad, friendly smile, flagged them down.
“Hello? You there! Excuse me? I don’t suppose you’d be willin’ to give a gal a hand over here?” She asked with hopeful eyes. “ A sweaty, kinda tired, really desperate gal?”

“Oh my Gooood,” Mick droned, head tilted back in exasperation as she wandered down the half empty street. The sun was going down leaving the sky a beautiful hazy orange, but even a beautiful sunset couldn’t pull Mick from the boredom that seemed to have taken over her entire life. It was Saturday evening, and her only options to be around people her age was a shabby dive bar or a grimy strip club. That, or stay home with her dorky little brother who would probably ask her to play dungeons and dragons with his dorky little friends.
“There has got to be something fun to do in this godforsaken town!” she said aloud to nobody in particular, kicking a rock on the sidewalk and watching as it skidded across the street. That was the most entertainment she’d had all day, it seemed.

The 4th of July was slowly approaching, and things were a-brewin’ out in Major’s shed. All the best ingredients and a whole lotta love in there, he was gonna get the whole damn town buzzed. Same procedure as every year. Now he was out at Walmart picking up a few of the finishing touches for it all, shooting off a bright smile as he recognized a Beaumontian, “You excited for the big party?” He evidently was, newly picked-up Uncle Sam hat already in place, “Wonderin’ who’s gonna embarrass themselves this year, who’s your bet?”
#he's a gossip ok#and it was prob him last year#beaumontchat#also even if someone wasn't there last year#he'd still ask jic they got sth juicy

Cindy was out walking Rabbert, both of them still getting used to their temporary home. Beaumont was too tiny to be really interesting to walk around, but it was all better when she looked up at just at the right moment to see someone trip not that far away. “You don’t need to check if anyone saw that, cus we did,” she quipped, shooting finger guns their way, “So this is when you start the ‘I totally meant to do that’ routine.”

Sometimes, after a long day, people like to do nothing but RELAX and take it easy. After running around, answering phone calls, teaching kids and whatever else she could fit into her schedule nothing made her happier than relaxing at the Hideout with her Beats and a good book. She LOVED this place because she always seemed to find someone new to meet and talk to.
Today, she found someone who seemed to look a little. . . For lack of a better word, down and made it her mission to try and cheer them up. “You know, life’s too short to be looking like a storm cloud.” She mused with a smile, “You gotta just relax, have fun, you know? Take it easy!” She paused the song on her phone then slid her headphones [ [ d o w n ] ] around her neck. “Let’s do something fun like. . . Play ISpy! Alright, I spy with my little eye something . . . Red!”

“This random dude came up to me with the best pickup line of the year and I kind of regret not giving him my real number now. He was all ‘Baby, you remind me of the constitution because you look like a national treasure’, like, it was a fucking good one. What was I thinking?”
