A Long Road Home - Page 85 Author's Notes
Page 85
There was supposed to be another panel of the two of them celebrating Laudna’s birthday:
Panel 5: It's Laudna's birthday, or as close to it as she can remember. The remains of an iced gingerbread cake with a candle on it is on the table, with crumbs on both of their plates and a little slice set out for Pâté on a saucer. Laudna is exclaiming in delight over the collection of calico fabric squares for quilting Imogen has given her.
In this continuity she has a Duscar birthday; both here and in Remember Us she mentions that the fatal dinner party, which most likely took place on one of the last days of Cuersaar since Vox Machina rolls into Whitestone on 2 Duscar to discover the aftermath of it, happened just a few weeks before her 20th birthday. (How kind of the Briarwoods to host a fancy party just for her!)
However, when I went back to the Encyclopedia Exandria article on the Exandrian calendar to get a better idea of when I had meant for it to be I realized something I’ve been totally overlooking all this time: Marquet is in the southern hemisphere and has opposite seasons! So even though it’s winter for them now Laudna’s birthday is actually half a year a way. (And incidentally probably close to Imogen’s, since I had envisioned a summer birthday for her.)
But since Winter’s Crest is not a Marquesian holiday and they could theoretically celebrate it whenever they wanted, I figured I could keep that panel as it is and just let the one about her birthday go (or move it into the next chapter, which takes place in the summer). That panel is largely lifted from my fic Come In From the Cold, in which Imogen goes all in on Winter’s Crest to make Laudna happy. So there’s the matching red flannel jammies, Pâté’s gingerbread house, the sunflower-embroidered handy haversack (wrapped in paper painted by little rat feet), and Chateaubriand the Mari Lwyd. (The fic goes into greater detail about the customs, which I largely drew from the rowdy Tudor-Era traditions of Christmas because that seemed the most thematically appropriate for Winter’s Crest in Whitestone, in particular wassailing which, appropriately enough for the Mintyverse Bradburys, involved making a ruckus in the apple orchard to ensure the health of the trees.) The only different detail is the enchanted teakettle, which in the fic Imogen gives to Laudna as a present rather than having bought it previously at the general store. So the contents of that box with the striped paper are a mystery.
They have red pajamas not just because Laudna insists that matching pajamas for the whole family are an essential part of the holiday but because of a belief persisting since the Elizabethan era that scarlet was the warmest color to wear. From the 17th century onward and throughout the early-mid 19th century especially red flannel was the popular choice for winter petticoats, underwear, and pajamas because it was believed that red flannel worn next to the skin would protect against cold and diseases and serve as a remedy for rheumatism. (This is where the classic image of the red flannel drop-seater union suit comes from.) Examples of this can be seen in the literature of the time, (off the top of my head) red flannel nightgowns and nightshirts are described on all of the children in Little House in the Big Woods and in Little Women Beth wears a red merino wool wrapper while recovering from scarlet fever.
Other details on this page include a halfling with a tail because I really like that headcanon, Chloe Bell haberdashery named after my old cat, and a tavern called the Gloating Goat with a sign featuring the smug goat meme, and portraits of Pâté and Calamari as Victorian-era children. I thought Laudna’s vision for them would be a cross between Beatrix Potter and Victorian death photography, which is why they’re wearing fancy little outfits but listing stiffly and awkwardly in the frame. (I mean, any portrait of Pâté is a death portrait as it is.)

Hello all! I am looking for new pen-pals with similar interests. Someone that would like to exchange snail mail-- lovely handwritten letters, cute doodles, handmade-with-love crafts, pretty trinkets for keepsake, and possibly small gift packages...I love happy mail ♥ I am thirty-one years old and a late bloomer (struggling with social anxiety and depression)...a hopeless romantic with a whimsy soul who spent too much time daydreaming...I enjoy cloud watching, having a good laugh, baking biscuit cookies, sewing cute felties, taking polaroid snapshots, boadwalks near the seaside, lighthouses, cottages, old books, libraries, bakery shops, window-shopping at boutique shops, classic children's literature, fairytale stories, woodland animals, pressed flowers, tea parties, and vintage clothing.. I am a huge fan of Audrey Hepburn and Classic lady fashion! I like to collect all things pretty/dainty and anything bunny related. Favorite books: Le Petite Prince, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Beatrix Potter, The Secret Garden, Roald Dahl, Jane Austen, Jane Eyre, Lolita, The Great Gatsby, The Master and Margarita ...I enjoy children's literature/books the most. UK Christmas TV 2020: Your Guide to This Year’s Festive Specials
https://ift.tt/370S3Dq
If you’re the kind of person who tuts at pre-December Christmas trees and moans about supermarkets simultaneously stocking mince pies and Halloween goodies (don’t cross the streams!) then look away now, there’s nothing for you here.
If, however, you’re the sort of person who’s gasping for end-of-year cheer like it’s the last bottle of Evian in a hot, empty desert, then step this way. We’ve collected up all the festive TV specials airing in the UK over Christmas 2020, so you can start mentally circling the ones in your personal schedule.
It being early, there are still announcements to be made, so check back here for updates. Ditto for official air dates and times, which are thin on the ground until the channels lock in their schedules. We’ll pop back and add those in as they’re confirmed.
Starting with our top five picks, here’s a list of everything on the way…
TOP FIVE PICKS
1. Doctor Who: Revolution of the Daleks
Companions Yaz, Graham and Ryan stumble upon a Dalek threat on Earth while the Doctor’s far away and locked up in space prison. How do you fight the Daleks without the Doctor? With the help of an old friend… Festive special ‘Revolution of the Daleks’ is written by Chris Chibnall and directed by ‘Spyfall Part 2’ director Lee Haven Jones.
Air date: TBC
2. Ghosts: Christmas Special
The Ghosts Christmas special is so good, there should be a new one every year. It’s Christmas in Button House and Mike is determined to give his visiting family the perfect Christmas, if they’ll let him. And if his other family – the houseful of historical ghosts only wife Alison can see and hear – behave. 1990s MP Julian is the Ebenezer Scrooge in need of a lesson on the true meaning of Christmas in this terrific family comedy.
Air date: TBC
3. Taskmaster: Christmas Special
We don’t yet know the identities of the five contestants competing in the very first Taskmaster festive special, but we know that they are all brand new to the 10-series comedy, and have been described as “experts in their respective fields”… Fingers crossed for Christmas-themed tasks.
Air date: TBC
4. His Dark Materials Season 2 Finale: Æsahættr
Technically, there’s nothing festive about His Dark Materials (unless the BBC/HBO adaptation takes a serious diversion from Philip Pullman’s books and throws in a few elves) but there’s something very childhood-bedtime and therefore quite Christmassy about this beautiful series. It ended strong in season one, and keeps getting better in season two. This finale is due to bring The Subtle Knife to a close, making way for the final part of the trilogy in the as-yet-unconfirmed (but come on, it’s happening) third season.
Air date: Sunday 20th December, 8.10pm, BBC One
5. Roald & Beatrix, the Tail of the Curious Mouse
From the producers of Sherlock and Dracula, this festive family comedy-drama promises to be something quite special. It reimagines the real-life meeting of two of the UK’s biggest names in children’s literature: Beatrix Potter (played by Dawn French) and Roald Dahl, back when Potter was a recluse and Dahl was a child. Expect puppetry, animation, a host of guest stars and voices, and lots of snow, from Inside No. 9 director David Kerr.
Air date: TBC
COMEDY
Motherland Christmas Special
Top BBC Two parenting sitcom Motherhood returns for a festive special ahead of its third series coming next year. You are cordially invited to Amanda’s annual seasonal soiree… Anna Maxwell-Martin, Diane Morgan, Lucy Punch and Paul Ready star.
Air date: TBC
Upstart Crow: Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow: a Lockdown Christmas 1603
The stage version of Shakespeare sitcom Upstart Crow fell foul of Covid-19 earlier this year, but that hasn’t stopped the team putting together this festive lockdown two-hander special, set in London during the plague, and starring David Mitchell and Gemma Whelan as Shakespeare and Kate.
Air date: TBC
Not Going Out Christmas Special
Lee Mack’s long-running BBC One sitcom is back for another Christmas instalment, filmed under Covid-safe conditions this August. Expect a dedication to dearly departed cast member Bobby Ball.
Air date: TBC
Pandemonium
Katherine Parkinson and Alison Steadman star in this one-off BBC comedy about a family forced to cancel their dream holiday to California, who end up in Margate over the Christmas season.
Air date: TBC
Vicar of Dibley in Lockdown
Dawn French and James Fleet reprise the characters of Geraldine and Hugo in three 10-minute lockdown additions to The Vicar of Dibley canon, airing on BBC One after repeats of the original series (and then repeated later in one half-hour clump).
Air date: starts 7th December, BBC One.

Air date: TBC
Call the Midwife Christmas Special
The circus is coming to town in the Call the Midwife Christmas special, and its ringmaster will be played by former Doctor, Peter Davison. Set in 1965, it promises to be the usual mix of heart-warming goodness and flinty eyed comment on the absolute golden necessity of the NHS.
Air date: 25th December, 7pm, BBC One
Black Narcissus
Gemma Arterton and Diana Rigg star in a new BBC three-part adaptation of Rumer Godden’s strange, atmospheric novel – famously adapted into a film in 1947 – about a group of nuns in a remote Himalayan outpost.
Air date: TBC
Bridgerton
Julia Quinn’s hit book series set in Regency-era London get the glossy Shondaland treatment in this Netflix series, which can be unwrapped on Christmas Day.
Air date: 25th December
CHILDREN’S

Air date: TBC
Zog and the Flying Doctors
Continuing from last year’s utterly charming Zog, this is the fairy tale-bending story of a dragon, a princess and a knight, who all decide to choose a different path in life than the one set out for them. It’s the seventh Julia Donaldon/Axel Scheffler/BBC Christmas adaptation, and promises to be another funny, adorable half hour of TV.
Air date: 25th December, 4.55pm, BBC One
Jack and the Beanstalk: After Ever After
After last year’s Cinderella sequel from David Walliams and Sky One comes the ‘what happened next’ for panto classic Jack and the Beanstalk. Walliams and Sheridan Smith star in this comedy special. There’s a Hansel & Gretel: After Ever After next in the pipeline.
Air date: TBC
Quentin Blake’s Clown
Here’s another lovely half-hour of quiet time with the kids from Channel 4, from the same people who made previous years’ animations of children’s classics The Tiger Who Came To Tea and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. It’s the story of a discarded clown toy who comes to life and goes on an adventure to find a new home for him and his toy pals. Helena Bonham Carter narrates.
Air date: TBC
Christmas in Storyland
The CBeebies gang is back for another Christmas story featuring a cast of favourites, singing, dancing and interactive fun for little ones.
Air date: 12th December, CBeebies, BBC iPlayer

Cottagecore, Sticks of Butter, Sequins With Athleisure: I Let the MR Thoughtline Dress Me for a Week
You ever heard of MR Thoughtline? It’s our new brainy text service where we send out three messages per weekday: one morning Upshot (three good things that happened in the last 24 hours, penned by yours truly), one ping about who’s answering the SMSes during our OOO hour (I call it “chatting with babes online,” à la Kip from Napoleon Dynamite), and an afternoon WFH Challenge (sometimes an outfit recipe, other times a literal culinary recipe). In honor of this recent Man Repellerian development, I elected to be dressed by Thoughtline for a week.
Getting dressed mid-isolation, each day feels like a dry run. We’ve talked about turning hobbies into hustles, but I think getting dressed for no audience other than yourself is kind of an inversion of that idea—it’s more like turning a hustle into a hobby. Read on for five days worth of letting my coworkers dress me.
Monday: “WFH Outfit Challengeroni: Put on your best #goingnowherebutfuckitimgettingdressed garb and send it straight to @manrepeller on Instagram.”
This outfit told me to tell you that churning butter is the new Tracy Anderson Method.
Okokokok, I know this doesn’t look like I got dressed, but I did. The jury’s still out on whether I can wear this vintage nightgown—a holiday gift from my grandmother—out in the wild (though I’d argue it isn’t a far cry from wearing this outdoors). It feels like a decadent outfit in the scheme of WFH gym shorts and cutoff t-shirts. These sleeves are veritable cream-puffs. I’m even wearing earrings!
!function(d,s,id){ var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? 'http' : 'https'; if(!d.getElementById(id)) { e = d.createElement(s); e.id = id; e.src = p + '://widgets.rewardstyle.com/js/shopthepost.js'; d.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.__stp === 'object') if(d.readyState === 'complete') { window.__stp.init(); } }(document, 'script', 'shopthepost-script');

Tuesday: “WFH Outfit Challenge coming right up: Accessorize your favorite pajamas as if you were attending a gala where the dress code was ‘black-tie sleepwear.‘”
The smile is genuine; the “fur” is faux. If I had a parent-teacher conference with this outfit’s guardians, I’d tell them that this ensemble is a joy to have in class. The next time I wear it, I’ll be hosting a slumber party where we eat sea-salted radishes off of blond wood platters—as soon as I get the green light. (Should you desire an Edith jacket inspired by Beatrix Potter’s bunnies, it’s on sale.)
Another top contender for the title “favorite pajamas”: A friend recently asked me about lounge-y PJ recommendations, and I virtually spun her around three times, blindfolded, like she was playing pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey, and then nudged her in the direction of this Eberjey set, which I then discovered comes in a smorgasbord of different colors. Look no further if you’re searching for a pair of pajamas with the softness and lightness of a Mallomar.
!function(d,s,id){ var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? 'http' : 'https'; if(!d.getElementById(id)) { e = d.createElement(s); e.id = id; e.src = p + '://widgets.rewardstyle.com/js/shopthepost.js'; d.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.__stp === 'object') if(d.readyState === 'complete') { window.__stp.init(); } }(document, 'script', 'shopthepost-script');

Wednesday: “Christen your Tuesday with the following WFH Outfit Challenge: Get dressed like your alter ego. Mine is “international spy who just started making sourdough bread.” She loves dark sunglasses, chunky jewelry, and elasticized waistbands.”
My alter ego is a person who hasn’t watched a single Instagram Story in three months—don’t I look relaxed? Also, a person who wears jeans (and who knows what kind of shoes to wear with jeans). (“EDITH IN JEANS?!??!” is one of my favorite comments ever published on Disqus.) The only other time I’ve worn something that vaguely resembles this outfit was when I stayed at the Standard in West Hollywood alone last summer, if that tells you anything. The indoor sunglasses are inspired and therefore permitted by Tiffany, who materialized in a recent Zoom meeting looking like Bono when her workspace was flooded with light. They are also inspired by the fact that I’m tired of looking at my own face.
!function(d,s,id){ var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? Thursday: “Well hello to you, too!!! WFH Outfit Challenge: Text a friend an elaborate outfit idea and ask for one in return. Put it on, and don’t forget to send them a pic when you’re done.”
Perhaps I misinterpreted “elaborate outfit idea” as just an outfit prompt. So be it. The noble outfit prompt I invented: gussy up a sweatshirt. (“Gussy up”—splendid phrase.) A compliment of the highest order: These Entireworld socks are the ones I most look forward to in the laundry cycle. It’s a privilege and an honor to be a supersaturated #stickofbutter with little blue extremities (the shoes are on sale!).
!function(d,s,id){ var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? 'http' : 'https'; if(!d.getElementById(id)) { e = d.createElement(s); e.id = id; e.src = p + '://widgets.rewardstyle.com/js/shopthepost.js'; d.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.__stp === 'object') if(d.readyState === 'complete') { window.__stp.init(); } }(document, 'script', 'shopthepost-script');

Friday: “A Challenge of the WFH Outfit Variety: Wear something sequined with something normally relegated to exercise. Text it to a friend and tell them it’s the new PB&J.”
This was my favorite prompt because I had just the ticket. I dug this ancient Tory Burch top from the bottom of my bureau (it’s an unparalleled New Year’s Eve top) and added my Outdoor Voices Exercise Dress (it tells me it’s thrilled for its reintroduction in spring). I didn’t want to wear my dirty sneakers inside (they’re from a collaboration by Outdoor Voices x Hoka, though—I’m about to go wear them for a run, and I prefer them above all other running shoes I’ve owned), so I put on these skyscraper loafers by ATP Atelier instead.
!function(d,s,id){ var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? 'http' : 'https'; if(!d.getElementById(id)) { e = d.createElement(s); e.id = id; e.src = p + '://widgets.rewardstyle.com/js/shopthepost.js'; d.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.__stp === 'object') if(d.readyState === 'complete') { window.__stp.init(); } }(document, 'script', 'shopthepost-script');

I rewatched Whit Stillman’s Last Days of Disco in the early days of quarantine, and this outfit combines all the best elements of that movie’s costume design: Chloe Sevigny and Kate Beckinsale’s glitzy going-out outfits (a recurring topic of discussion in my Slacks with Harling), their underratedly covetable floral bathrobes worn around their shared railroad apartment, and their minimal, crisp workwear for days spent at their publishing company.
A student of the Thoughtline, I followed the instructions and texted this picture to a friend, notifying her that this combo is the new PB&J:
Now feels like a very logical time to double check that you yourself are signed up for The MR Thoughtline, don’t you agree? If you’re not, you can resolve this issue once and for all via this link riiiiiiiiiight here.

Here are 19 shows to get you into the holiday spirit
Christmas would not be complete without The Nutcracker. The Joffrey Ballet's production choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon tells a magical story of love and family and the 1893 World's Fair. Or, try the House Theater of Chicago's alternative: an inspiring, ballet-free rendition.
The Nutcracker12/1-12/30: Thu-Fri 7 PM, Sat-Sun 2 and 7 PM; also Wed 12/19, 7 PM; Wed 12/26, 2 PM; Fri 12/21 and 12/28, 2 PM; and Mon 12/24, 2 PM; no performance Sun 12/2, 7 PM, Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Ida B. Wells, 312-386-8905, joffrey.org, $35-$179.
The NutcrackerThrough 12/30: Thu-Fri 7:30 PM, Sat-Sun 3 and 7:30 PM, Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division, 773-769-3832, thehousetheatre.com, $20-$50.
Looking for something more traditional? The Chicago Symphony Orchestra will be playing its annual "Merry, Merry Chicago!" show starting December 14 and Handel Messiah on December 20-23, and the American Blues Theater is performing its live 1940's radio broadcast of It's a Wonderful Life.

THE 10 MOST POPULAR POSTS OF 2018
It’s that time of year again. While Christmas preparations are in full swing for most, there’s still time to reflect on the year that’s almost coming to a close. I’m doing it early this year. Maybe because my festive period will be a bit less fraught than some (Christmas day with my sister and her family, and a pledge to not go mad with presents!), and a slowing down of the online audience for obvious reasons. So, here are the most popular posts of 2018. It’s worth saying though, that these are the posts that I published in 2018, and not the most popular posts overall. Some of the most popular overall were published before 2018 and some many years before. Which just goes to show that interiors don’t move as fast as some think. What was being researched and searched for in 2016 and even prior to that, is still as relevant today.
1.Kitchen Trends That Will Never Go Out of Style
When I first started to research this topic I was going to write about ‘new’ kitchen trends for 2018. An up-to-date account of what products and finishes are going to take the interiors market by storm this year purely from a decorative point of view. But the more I looked, the more apparent it became that when it comes to kitchens, style is much more important than keeping up with current trends. A complete kitchen refurb is costly, so taking risks with colours and finishes that you may tire of in a few years is not advisable. And if you plan on selling at some point it’s important that you have a kitchen that is not going to put off the potential buyers. Having said that, there is still a lot of scope for creating an on-trend kitchen with bags of style and personality that you will continue to love for years to come….read more.
2.Green is the Colour for Autumn and Winter at M&S
As if we need more proof that green is the colour for the coming seasons, Marks and Spencer have used the most sumptuous shade as a backdrop to some of their Autumn/Winter homewares. If you’re wondering what shade of green it is exactly, it looks very much like Three Farm Green as featured in my recent post on green paint shades. But let’s not get distracted, because there’s much more to love here. That duvet set definitely has my name on it. Wouldn’t it look good in my bedroom? And the real stars of the show?! All those lovely faux plants. Oversized (so much more impactful in a room), and in their own belly baskets too…read more.
3.Fifty (Well Almost) Shades of Green Paint
In fact there are 31 beautiful green paint shades in the Little Greene recent collaboration with the National Trust. A collaboration that is a result of an extensive paint research project that has been undertaken in National Trust houses and gardens throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland. In fact a quest to find original colours, and to tell the stories of the people who first enjoyed them. Wouldn’t I have liked to have been involved in that! Next time guys!! Inspiration was drawn from sources as diverse as Beatrix Potter’s Cumbrian farmhouse, George Bernard Shaw’s revolving writing hut and even mythical birds featured on the wallpaper hung by Chippendale at Nostell Priory. And the result is a new colourcard featuring some intriguing stories, and a gamut of glorious greens in a comprehensive array of hues…read more.
4.New in Store – Tropical Brights from H&M Home
Continuing my obsessional pursuit of checking out what’s ‘new in’ on my favourite homewares websites. H & M Home. This is one store that I can’t pass by on the high street either. They are always spot-on with the latest trends and their prices are always so reasonable I can’t help filling the basket (virtual or all too real) every time I visit. And this Spring is no exception. They have added a few new colours to their ranges that almost make up for the lack of Spring weather. Pink and yellow. Together! How can you not feel happy when you see them. There’s still that ever-popular tropical vibe going on, but in hot new colours. Leave the green to the house plants and indulge in some hot-house hues on the soft furnishings instead…read more.
5.The Latest Stunner in a Regency London Townhouse from DeVOL Kitchens
Just when you think deVOL cannot possibly top their last kitchen design revealed to the world, they just go right ahead and do it again. I’m not going to apologise for sharing yet another example of their exquisite workmanship. This kitchen just has to be seen if only for its stunning colour combination. In fact the designers at first wondered how the Sebastian Cox range would fit into a Regency London townhouse with such an abundance of period details. This historic showroom needed to be decorated with style and care as befitting its original features. And the Sebastian Fox range after all is, shall we say, more artisan and rustic, and a tad minimalist in style…read more.
6.Introducing Muurmeesters – Dutch Masterpieces for Your Walls
Muurmeesters is a Dutch company that prints (old) masterpieces, particularly in over-sized formats, on high quality fabric. And I think they are stunning. Great for creating impact in any room in the house, and I’m thinking one (or two, or three) would look stunning in my newly painted stairway. I do love a feature wall of different art in different frames, but I’d much prefer to have one big stand-out piece myself. I’ll have to start saving the pennies. I just can’t decide between a portrait, a still life or a landscape…read more.
7.10 of the Best Hanging Garden Swing Seats
Well, the sun truly had his hat on at the weekend. And now that summer is finally here and there is another Bank Holiday weekend looming, don’t you think it’s time you sorted out the garden seating? Not just any old seating. But the decadent ‘I’m all right jack’ sort of seating. There’s something truly indulgent about investing in a garden seat that SWINGS! Pure bohemian chic. Kinda ‘lets pretend we have a party pad in Ibiza’ sort of thing. Because is there anything nicer than cocooning in a comfortable, slightly swaying armchair in the garden? One that is so deeply padded that it will be impossible to stay awake. A gentle breeze, the rustling of leaves in the tree above, and the sweet scent of newly cut grass…read more.
8.New Wall Tile Trends That Are Anything But Utilitarian
Much as I still love the plain white metro (underground, subway, whatever you like to call it) tile, it has become a bit too commonplace. Still popular with clients, but if you’re looking for something a bit more decorative and non-utilitarian you’ve come to the right place. While I was researching new wall tile trends recently, I started to notice that finishes are starting to become a whole lot more glamorous. Deeper colours are creeping in, tile shapes are more striking, and there’s a definite luxurious aesthetic for those who are confident and bold enough to use them. In fact, many of the tiles I’ve been looking at could be used in any room in the house, not just the kitchen and bathroom…read more.
9.Bed and Breakfast in a Converted Belgium Bunker Anyone?
This impressive building was originally a fort for Belgian soldiers in the late 1700’s, but has been completely transformed by a Belgian family into a beautiful B & B. ’The Bunkers’ as the property is aptly named, was then rebuilt in concrete on the brink of 1st world war and during the 2nd world war, bricks were added to the concrete construction. Today, the brickwork appears in an eye-catching pattern of red and yellow colours…read more.
10.The Growing Popularity of the Half Painted Wall
Have you noticed the trend? Two-tone walls with a crisp dividing line. Not to be mistaken for the two-tone walls divided by a dado rail. Nothing wrong with those of course, (in a period home) but not the same thing at all. The two-tone walls I’m referring to are much, much sharper. Much more contemporary, and much more popular than you might imagine. Having tackled this effect myself in the bedroom at home, I can honestly say it’s easier to achieve than you might think. You need frog tape of course and nerves of steel when the time comes to peel it off. But the finished effect is more than worth the effort of measuring, taping, and breath-holding…read more.

Meet: The Tea Cart
Tumblr media
Directly in the heart of Berryville, VA, sits a traditional British tearoom. Arriving in 2014, the tearoom brings to life the ages old tradition of ‘Afternoon Tea,’ and serves curated specialty loose teas, along with delicate finger sandwiches and intricate sweets. Owner Sue Whitbeck along with co-owner and marketing/branding specialist Allison Ritter (her daughter) want everyone to be able to enjoy one of the Queen Mother’s favorite pastimes, without trekking across the pond, (and that pricey plane ticket). Meet: The Tea Cart.
Tumblr media
A table set for Breakfast at Tiffany’s
A PASSION FOR THE TEA POT
Owner Sue Whitbeck brought The Tea Cart to life as a way to emphasize and share her own love for the tranquility and escape enjoying a cup of tea brings.  A former restaurateur as well as a Family and Consumer Science teacher, Sue’s visits to the UK provided much of the inspiration behind the Tea Cart. Her daughter, Allison, is The Tea Cart’s co-owner, and Founder and CEO of her own health-focused, lifestyle marketing agency, Sunday Morning Public Relations. Allison has over 10 years of experience in lifestyle PR, and has a passion for working with clients in the culinary space. Both Sue and Allison have a love that runs deep for all the things that come with an afternoon tea experience.

FIT FOR A QUEEN
Afternoon tea at The Tea Cart is one of the tearoom’s most iconic experiences. If you want in on the party, it’s best to book ahead. Seatings are Thursday thru Sunday at 12, 12:30, 12:45, 1:00 and 1:15. The Tea Cart doesn't stop at traditional, however (Sorry, Queen Elizabeth). Each month, the tearoom offers seasonal specialty events, complete with custom menus and themes. Some of these include Lord of the Rings Tea, Harry Potter Tea (We are huge fans), Beatrix Potter Tea, and Mary Poppins Tea. All of these events can be attended with costumes... and come with some great hats!
Tumblr media
The Tea Cart caters to private parties, from bridal showers to birthdays, or anything you can come up with and want to celebrate. We can certainly think of a few things we’d like to celebrate there...how about just making it through Monday? The Tea Cart will even provide a custom menu if a traditional tea service doesn’t suit your vision.

WHAT’S ON THE CART?
With an immense variety of teas, The Tea Cart makes it nearly impossible to choose just one. Their menu includes six categories: Green, White, Oolong, Rooibos and Herbal Infusions, Blended Black Tea, and  Black Tea. Our personal favorite, their Chocolate Almond tea, is made with coconut, safflower, almonds and organic cacao nibs. Basically dessert in a cup, and it doesnt get better than that. You must try more than one however, which may require multiple trips (but who's counting?). Some other glorious pots of tea bliss include Ginger Peach (a blend of sweet peach and spicy ginger with apples, papaya, ginger bits, and safflower petals), Jasmine Mint (a bright blend combining green tea, white tea, spearmint and jasmine flowers), Holiday Winter Spice (a festive blend of cinnamon, cloves, dried fruit, herbs and spices), and The Tea Cart’s special house blend, Shenandoah Blue, a rich and earthy combination of cornflowers and blueberries.
Tumblr media
DELICATE EATS
The Tea Cart’s seemingly endless variety of teas have been chosen carefully to pair with their traditional British fare of delicate sweets, as well as finger sandwiches, and soups. We’re eyeballing their warm scones with Devonshire cream and preservatives...yum. The Tea Cart also includes homemade seasonal additions to their menu, and everything comes with a bottomless pot of tea. For a boozier take on an afternoon of tea, champagne, wine and mimosas are available for purchase (and can make a great addition to your private party). Sound like a great way to spend one of the chilly winter days ahead? We’ll certainly be heading to The Tea Cart soon, and you can book online here  and check out The Tea Cart’s event calendar to secure your spot for one of their specialty happenings. See you there!

Prince George and Princess Charlotte to Help Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Charm Europe
Prince George and Princess Charlotte will join their parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, on their tour of Germany and Poland, Kensington Palace has said.
The Duke and Duchess will travel with their young son and daughter during their five-day trip, which begins on July 17 in Poland’s capital Warsaw and ends in the German city of Hamburg on July 21.
A Kensington Palace spokesman said: “The Duke and Duchess are very much looking forward to this tour and are delighted with the exciting and varied programme that has been put together for it.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte await Trooping the Colour
“They have decided that their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, will travel with them and we expect the children to be seen on at least a couple of occasions over the course of the week.
“They look forward to a busy and impactful tour, and are grateful that they will have the opportunity to meet the Polish and German people – such important friends of the United Kingdom – as a family.
The family in Canada
The Duke and Duchess have taken their children, George, who is nearly four, and two-year-old Charlotte, on an official tour before, travelling to Canada with them last year where they enjoyed an open-air party for youngsters.
And in 2014 their toddler prince flew with them to New Zealand and Australia for their extensive trip.
This time, the children are likely to be seen only during arrivals and departures at the two countries.

With Prince George starting school in south London this September, attending the mixed-sex Thomas’s Battersea school, and his sister likely to be enrolled in a nursery, this is the last time the royal couple will be able to take their children with them without school commitments making it problematic.
The children will be seen arriving in Poland and Germany, as they were in Canada last year
The Cambridges are making the trip at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
It is likely to be seen as another Brexit diplomacy tour, helping to maintain and strengthen the UK’s relations with Europe as it leaves the EU.

The best ways to Speak with Gals As well as Produce Tourist attraction.
My better half is actually capable to use a $1,350 Herve Leger gown to supper for our wedding event anniversary this year on a teacher's compensation. I enjoy all the crazy hot sauce names, and using the word smurf as a replacement for that other phrase. By means of the years, Hot Tires autos have actually been collected usually by youngsters, but in the final 15 years vague there has been actually an increase in the lot of adult collection agencies. If a little one female is actually favored, the trick at that point is to create sure that the sperm bring an X should successfully penetrate the egg tissue. The majority of ladies hit puberty. at about age 12. Most young boys reach out to adolescence pair of years eventually, at regarding grow older 14. At http://jacksonsport-web19.info/%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%9A%E0%B8%95%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%87-%E0%B8%AB%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%A7%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%B0 adolescence a girl proliferates in height and also weight. The well-liked ladies at my university all possess the exact same garments, care method way too much regarding their hair, and essentially just speak about theirselves and other people. That is actually advised that you carry out certainly not start to ask every woman out when you fulfill her. It is actually wise to have each gal take their very own comb as well as make-up or you can easily buy personal kits for each and every lady and allow all of them keep all of them as party chooses. I decided on one I may like, however don't hesitate to decide on a black handmade collar if the teen girl you're acquiring the present for is actually a bit 'goth' (putting on dark cloths). What regarding the 10-year-old female that was bought for 700 US bucks in Mamba as well as abducted as a sex slave, to have 350 clients prior to the grow older from THIRTEEN, expecting at 12, placed the infant under the bedroom while she works on best abandoned by her family. Bellatrix Lestrange is just one of the absolute most merciless from the followers from God Voldemort in Harry Potter, used screen through Helena Bonham- Carter A shame that this astral title of among the celebrities from Orion, a smoosh of the prominent Bella as well as Beatrix, has such a dark affiliation.
Mystique - With the X-men movies being actually therefore prominent as well as comics also enjoying a (much deserved) rise in popularity, that would certainly be actually illegal from me to leave behind Mystique out. When it comes to Autos - whilst Hot Wheels have accurately decelerated due to the AUTOS 3 movie launch, the combo of the two continuouslies succeed. They can be found in a number of colours, by the way, including warm pink/purple and also black/hot pink! This checklist from Irish baby girl names is actually expecteded to provide you some really good options for selecting a title that you and your little doll may both enjoy with! I have all my amazing vehicles in storage since the insurance coverage and fuel is actually merely to expensive ... Without all my props and my getting older skin I still attract even more hot young girls than any boy on the planet. Once in a while I award my ideal women by a holiday on the seashore for a weekend including the candlelight supper, cuddling and also scorching sexual activity. Right now, all you have to do is to believe if your partner complies with a few of these requirements as well as to determine if she is the best gal for you.
