i’m too old to beef about it with the majority younger people who use it but To Me the toothpaste flag feels very derivative and disingenuous and like… idk the idea of taking the newly adopted sunset lesbian flag and being like “make it blue and now it’s for boys” feels a little shortsighted to me. like if it’s the flag that GENUINELY feels like home to you, i’m not gonna tell anyone to stop, but i feel like there should at least be an acknowledgment of the toothpaste flag’s origins and why it might not resonate (or even actively rankle) with some gays, particularly older ones.

#older; he says; at the ripe age of Twenty Seven #like… idk there’s been a lot said about how super specific micro labels and flags can drive people apart instead of uniting them #and the most common reason i see people talk up the toothpaste flag is bc the rainbow flag has become ‘generic’ to the entire lgbt community #but for me personally I think it’s BEAUTIFUL that the flag that welcomes everyone that we all share/start under is the fag flag as well!!#there’s also lots of flags specific to (or more prevalent in) gay male* spaces #that ALSO have a historical basis and meaning!!#bears twinks leathermen rubbermen drag queens ALL have historical flags
