#bear in mind there's opportunities for multiple hybrid bands

Question for the girl punk novel:
I’ve got a band of shapeshifting demons who can duplicate themselves to form completely new bands. They’re called The Resurrectionists for Obvious Plot Reasons not necessarily relevant to the matter at hand, but still important to their overall character arc... I’m throwing them into a Warped tour with Heaven’s Tiny Daggers and The Crossroad Burials and then they’re showing up again with the other two bands to hole up in a haunted mansion to write a new album.
While my bands aren’t perfect duplicates of existing emo bands, I do take heavy influences to shape them. Ie: there’s bits of both My Chemical Romance and Paramore in HTD and TCB. I wanna make sure the whole Golden Age of Emo trifecta is represented in this novel, so would it be better to make The Resurrectionists a Fall Out Boy/ Panic! At the Disco hybrid, or pick one and have another band represent the third band? I’ve got ideas for the Panic! band but absolutely none for Fall Out Boy, but an FOB angle would be the obvious choice for Warped tour and the Summer of Like-level drama going on in that plot arc. I also don’t wanna be too obvious about lifting certain well-known things from bandom, but make it subtle enough that fans would be able to recognize it for what it is...
I have to continually remind myself that this novel is meant to embody the essence of 2005-2007 emo culture, and it would make sense to have three bands representing...but how?🤔
EDIT: Thus far, there’s only one member of the band, even though I know there are others, but they feel like the face of the band, and that... might answer my question?
#bear in mind there's opportunities for multiple hybrid bands#since HTD and TCB are already doing that#heaven's tiny daggers#sophie writes#girl punk novel

Zoo 3.01
I am rusty and out of practice so bear with me, especially since I spent 2 hours after watching just basically keyboard smashing and yelling "I DON'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING THAT HAPPENED."
Anyway, today's review format is subheaders with bullet points that are really more like single-idea paragraphs and only get longer as I go. This review is also based on my live-viewing notes and not fact-checked with a second watch.
Plot Partners: Abe / Dariela & Suspicious Clem
Abe became a doctor? Dariela has sketchy contacts Abe can't know about? They are kick-ass parents on top of all that, despite their own crappy childhoods?? I have no idea what's going on but I'm excited.
Is anyone going to explain how some dogs are apparently unaffected by the mutation or...? Is it because doggos are so Good and Pure?
What is this clumsy retcon that Clementine was obsessed with babies/dolls? She tried to take like 10 stuffed animals and zero dolls with her when they left Boston in season 1. I mean I guess she did risk her life to save a baby from murder crows, but... Speaking of which, looks like season 3 will finally be the year nobody has to rescue a baby after its mother is brutally swarmed to death!
Hot Rugged Action Hero Jackson (& Friends)
Hey so listen I'm going to need you to stop force feeding me this relationship because I am still not there yet. Maybe when I am there, I will enjoy the fact that you threw like 5 different types of my favorite shippy scenes into one episode, but for now I'm saying things like "Ctrl+Alt+Save this kiss for when I care."
I am super excited that Jackson can control lions With His Mind, though. Tell me more.
And give me ALL of the Primeval monsters. That prehistoric rhino thing was my 2nd favorite part of the episode. (and to be clear: when i say Primeval, I am referencing the awesome British TV show and its little Canadian sibling, not just an adjective)
Plot Partners: Jamie and/or Logan
I can't believe Logan is managing to annoy me even more now that he has hair.
This skulking loner Sarah Walker version of Jamie is not really doing anything for me, so if we could bring her warmer side back ASAP that'd be cool. (sorry fandom. please don’t throw garbage at me. /Pam Beesly voice.)
Although I do sort of like that she re-purposed Mitch's lab into her own computer science-y lab. That's something we should probably write stories about. Speaking of...
Backstory Tentpoles a.k.a. Fanfic Prompts
I could let you claim that Jamie banged Logan at some point in the last 10 years, or I could just go "haha cool I guess we're calling that wilderness trek and about 7 days on the plane dating now" and speak no more of this evil.
I love that it sounds like Jamie and/or the Ragtag Band Of Failed Heroes got to keep hold of Clementine for 2 or 3 years, at least, before she apparently got ripped away and spirited off by Max. I will actually die of pain right now if I try to even imagine what that change was like, but it's gonna be gold for someone to dig into. Several someones, actually; there is plenty of room.
Speaking of things that will make me die of pain if I try to think about them: Jamie going on multiple expeditions over the years to try and find him.
Particularly the one where she finds his glasses.
His bloodstained glasses.
#HELP THE DYING IS STARTING
F YEAH ALPHA SHIP
Actual reaction to That Scene: *rolling my eyes* "Jamie has all the opportunity in the world to meet more terrible men" scene right on cu- WHAT, WHAT THE JIMINIY JIGGERS IS GOING ON / NO NEVER MIND I DON'T CARE AND DON'T NEED CONTEXT.
I have too many feelings about this so mostly Imma spend them on other peoples' posts and/or gifsets, but my heart is in roughly 9000 pieces as it finally dawns on me that this being Mitch's dream = Mitch comforting himself with Jamie telling him it's going to be okay and she's going to find him = can somebody please call all the ambulances
...also I keep looking at the deep and somewhat disfiguring scars he’s got, and wondering how Jamie might react to them. These are significantly different from the usual barely-there scars fictional characters fret about; these are the kind of scars that force you to confront exactly what kind of nightmare horror pain this person went through and how maybe it's even worse than you ever pictured.
Billy Burke Proving Why I Spend Every Autumn Transitioning Out of Zoo By Tracking Down His Other Work
I am running out of brainpower and have none left to process this plot, so I will just say: as much as I hate that Mitch is surrounded by strangers upon waking up, and suspicious strangers at that, it is kind of amazing to see him like this. It's Mitch, but it's Mitch stripped of all snark and the command he usually has of any given situation, even when he's just blustering his way through it. It is all kinds of painful to see him confused, mistrustful, frustrated by his inability to communicate or even really understand what's going on. Mitch looking this lost and withdrawn into mental retreat is quite a gut-wrench.
(it's also really good mental fodder for hospital fic. I'm just sayin'.)
My Favorite Sideshow: Mushy Father/Daughter Moments
So...that girl with Mitch definitely looks more like Young Clem, which is the only consolation prize I have for losing our amazing original actress, and it would line up with Max sequestering her away and/or being involved with shadowy forces. But it would be interesting if they're setting up Badass Clem to LOOK like she's a sketchy Clementine imposter, but actually be the real girl who is angry and embittered by her circumstances, while IADG seems more than capable of making up fake nonsense to manipulate Mitch into giving up info.
That said, my tiny human heart is not big enough to hold the amount of pain there would be if the first thing Mitch found comfort in upon regaining consciousness turned out to be a lie. I need him to recognize his own kid. That bowed head / forehead nudge killed me even more than the dream sequence.
What's REALLY going to upset me is if one of the girls is like a...clone of some kind, so that they're both technically Clem, but not. Or one is part-hybrid. I feel strongly like part-human hybrids are gonna be a Thing. (Mind you, I usually am very wrong when I start predicting.)
tl;dr Mitch + Being A Mess Of Emotions About His Daughter is my actual favorite thing about this show.
In conclusion: I still have no idea what’s going on but I am excited to see the rest.

5G: How will businesses benefit?
5G: How will businesses benefit?
5G is the buzzword of the moment and it’s not surprising why. According to Qualcomm, it’s expected to create 22 million new jobs and contribute a $12.3 Trillion economic benefit across the globe by 2035. As the name suggests, 5G is the fifth generation of mobile networks, promising more speed and lower latency. Beyond performance benefits, it’s also set to underpin Industry 4.0 where everything is connected, processed and digitized. Yet, 5G is currently tricky to pin down and its full arrival is still a long way off, but one thing is for sure, it will impact your business. 5G's impact on the future of work The future of cybersecurity in a 5G-connected world Five Eyes "needs major 5G vendor" 5-who? While the UK was a disappointing 54th to launch 4G in the global race, it will be in the first wave of countries to adopt the new networking technology. There are three bands of 5G: sub 1GHz (cheap and offers wide coverage, yet slower speeds); 3.4-3.8 GHz (the main frequency layer) and >6GHz (high bandwidth with low latency). Speeds in some bands will be well in excess of 1Gb/s. The major networks, including EE, Three, Vodafone and O2 have all started initial roll outs of 5G in high traffic areas. Vodafone recently completed a live test after winning the largest block of spectrum in Ofcom’s 5G auction at Birmingham New Street Station, creating the UK’s first 5G train station. At this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, every smartphone manufacturer showed off a new 5G device. However, it won’t be until 2020 at least until the 5G revolution really kicks off here and its likely urban centers – where all trials have been held so far - will benefit first. Having said that, the race to 5G is at risk of slowing as it requires extensive government approval. Not to mention the fact the U.S is still trying to ban Huawei, the Chinese supplier of high-speed telecoms systems over fears this would help China conduct espionage or cyber sabotage. It seems the UK believes this risk can be mitigated without banning Huawei from the 5G network, according to recent headlines. So, looking forward, it’s unclear when exactly UK businesses will benefit from the 5G network, but rest assured it’s coming.
Image Credit: Pixabay Understanding the business benefits There’s a lot of talk about 5G as a consumer technology but less about how it’s set to benefit businesses. The start with, it will certainly improve the experience of remote working and collaboration. Today, over 50 percent of staff work away from their main office at least 2.5 days a week which while giving businesses agility, improved scheduling and lower staff turnover, can make connecting, sharing and engaging teams difficult. Enter 5G. Network-related tasks, such as online sales or sharing large files in the cloud will become faster and more efficient, even on mobile devices without the need to connect to WiFi, giving businesses huge productivity gains and boosting staff morale. After all, there’s nothing more frustrating than a slow internet connection. As well as connecting people, 5G will connect things, vastly expanding the capabilities and application of IoT which demands better and faster connectivity. In fact, 5G will enable device-to-device communications for up to a million devices per square kilometer. These opens-up huge opportunities for IoT innovation and commercial use - from driverless cars, drones, Artificial Intelligence, robotics and remote-controlled machinery, and virtual and augmented reality - giving businesses at the forefront of creating and using such technologies a competitive edge. A very clever example of what’s possible is provided by Vodafone’s 5G connected crane, allowing an operator hundreds of miles away to have full remote control of the crane (or indeed multiple cranes in different locations). This 5G-enabled teleoperation solution could transform the construction industry and many others, increasing site safety and reducing idle time. Plotting your 5G road map As with any new technology, it pays to be fully prepared and those who are will gain first mover advantage. Every business, no matter its size or sector, should be thinking about how 5G could benefit them and their customers. Before jumping in, it’s important to clearly lay out the key investment areas to prepare your business for 5G’s arrival. Knowing how you want to use 5G is much more valuable than being an early adopter who doesn’t. Consider appointing an internal person or team to spearhead the project, working with the support of external experts where needed. Senior representatives from different departments should also be encouraged to feed in to help identify current roadblocks and possible areas for innovation. Future-proofing your network infrastructure is also a must for any adopter of 5G. If the access network attached to 5G is poor, you will just move the bottleneck. If you haven’t already, consider transitioning to a virtual network – the process of consolidating the physical hardware into a single software-based entity – which will be more fluid, dynamic and flexible.
Image Credit: Shutterstock The evolving threat landscape The very attributes which make 5G so valuable create new cybersecurity risks. A wider attack surface with more devices connected to the network and files being transferred across it, opens-up vulnerabilities. As the evolving threat landscape becomes clearer as the full deployment of 5G edges closer, it’s important security protocols do not cancel out the productivity gains businesses are looking forward to by slowing or preventing authorized access. With the growth of BYOD and remote working, business leaders are well versed in the risks associated with a blurred security perimeter. However, 5G brings new security concerns as hybrid computing becomes the norm, combining the risks of endpoint computing with those of cloud computing. In response to these concern, the UK Government’s 5G Testbeds are focusing on the principle of “security by design”, whereby 5G networks, software and apps are designed with security at the core with the flexibility to adapt in the face of evolving threats. A zero-trust security model is considered to be the safest way to mitigate the risk factors associated with 5G networks. Security on a zero-trust basis centers on the data, with every access request being verified, validated and authenticated. For example, 5G devices could recognise sensitive documents being accessed on the move during an employee’s commute and the virtual network could provisionally block access until the user is in a suitable place to access such documents. While many people will be taking advantage of 5G in the correct way, others will be focused on undermining it. Businesses need to bear this in mind when adopting 5G, or in fact any new technology, and adapt their security protocols accordingly to stay protected. Read the full article
