I feel like every like. 8 months. There's a discourse cycle where someone declares something that is not great hut pretty common ontologically evil and morally reprehensible, people respond with equally insane and hyperbolic defenses, and then Not Doing That Thing becomes a badge of moral superiority that gets used to brow beat the people who do this thing into "just admitting" they think they are better than everyone/lazy/don't care about other people. And then a few months after this has died down you find out the loudest people proclaiming the indefensability of the thing also do the thing. And I think it would overall be more productive to focus on explaining how and why the thing isn't great and what people can do to reduce their usage of the thing and like. Promoting the thing you want them to do instead as a good and productive and exciting thing. But that's not as much fun as internet moral superiority outrage fests I guess.
