DBPF Compare

DBPF Compare is a utility for helping to identify the differences between two .package files.

It can be used to answer questions such as:

What did I change between backup version X and Y?

There are two places to download the same mod, but the .package files are different sizes, are there any real differences between the two download sites?

These two mods are described as doing very similar things, but what exactly do they do differently?

DBPF Compare can also copy resources from one .package file into the other

Conventional applications such as Beyond Compare and WinDiff struggle with .package files as

the contents are binary not text,

the order of resources (BHAVs, BCONs, TXMTs, et al) within the .package file is not important, and

resources can be compressed in one file and not the other.

DBPF Compare understands the internal format of .package files and overcomes these peculiarities.

If you do not know why you would want to compare the resources within two .package files, this application is not for you!

Also i’ve been trying to lower the skill requirment, cos by default it seems like no less than 5 skill points are needed to stop constantly burning food. I’ve found a tuning BCON for Maxis stove and tried lowering values, with current values it seemed that at 2 points it is now possible to make unburned food, but you might want to experiment with values yourself. I’m uploading that BCON that will affect Maxis ingame stove, and only that stove, i think, as custom stoves each have their own BCONs that i assume need to be edited for each of them. I’ve made a little guide-pic for those who need directions on that front, that i hope will be understandable and make those ovens even more usable.  Download

Hi midge, I've been working on a fork to the traitsRandomizer mod to try and automatically add random traits when a Sim ages up each life stage instead of having to manually do it. The package as it stands is nearly entirely written in a private scope (0xFFFFFFFF). I'm assuming I need to make the aging up trigger a global, but is that even possible without making the rest of the mod global?

You wouldn't need everything, but definitely a lot more than just "Trait - Add Missing Traits"; "Inventory - Sort by Traits First" is supposed to be run after it, and "Trait - Add Missing Traits" includes calls to "Trait - Count Sim's Number of Traits (in Temp)" (can cut this and simplify "Trait - Add Missing Traits" accordingly for your purposes if you assume all sims have all traits from their previous age, so toddlers always need 2 more, children 1, etc.), "Trait - Add Potential Inherited Traits" and "Trait - Add Random Trait". And all the BHAVs I've mentioned so far have their own dependencies, like "Trait - Choose Random Valid Trait From Sim's Inventory", "Trait - Put Trait Into Sim's Inventory (Inheritance)", "Trait - Valid to Add?", "Trait - Choose Random Trait", "Trait - Put Trait Into Sim's Inventory"...

You can ignore the Interaction, Function, DEBUG, and Test BHAVs, but I think most BHAVs starting with "Trait" are needed.

The TraitsRandomizer also has two BCONs, and there's no room for more global BCONs. Adding those constants to existing BCONs or replacing them in the BHAVs with equivalent literals where possible will be necessary.

The simpler solution is probably to try and either turn the Trait Randomizer into a pseudo-controller or create a real controller that'll automatically be created on all lots. By this I mean, have a main function that every day (around when your sims age up plus a little time for their anims and stuff to play out, so probably aiming for 7 PM AKA hour 19 will be a safe bet) runs the same checks Interaction - Add Missing Traits To Sim - TEST, maybe replacing the dead/special NPC checks with a single "is in current family" check to speed things up a little and make sure you're only checking sims who might've just aged up. For all sims missing traits in the family, instead of adding a pie menu action with the Add/Change the Action String line it'll run Interaction - Add Missing Traits To Sim for that sim. Less editing and moving things around but still automated.
