I sighed as I finished mopping the pool deck, the dim light casting a serene glow over the water. The day had been long, and the campus pool was finally empty. My lifeguard duties were nearly done, ready to close the pool and go hang out with my friends. or so I thought.

Out of the shadows and sound of slippers walking emerged someone, it was Isabelle, a simmering resentment in her eyes. I tensed, knowing there was no love or civil lost between us. Isabelle walked towards me, arm crossed and wasted no time launching into a bitter tirade about my dad.

“Look at who it is? Y/n Y/l/n.. surprised your working at a place where your dad drown. How disrespectful of you? Have you never considered that fact your dad drowned? I could never be like you.” She chuckled as I felt tears swelling up my eyes. But she doesn’t stop there. “And how dare you to hang out with MY Niki? Your the reason why he never hangs out with me. Ha.. you really think I don’t know why? Acting like your struggling with metal health just to get him to listen to you pathetic little problems… I could never be like you..”

Despite my attempts to keep her distance, Isabelle's words stung. The tension between them escalated until, in a moment of blind anger, I didn’t even realize Isabelle was stepping closer and closer to me. Before I could fully comprehend the situation, Isabelle shoved me into the deep end of the pool.

The shock of the cold water engulfed y/n. Panic set in as she struggled to stay afloat. Isabelle's twisted satisfaction echoed through the empty pool area. The lights remained dim, casting an eerie glow on the chaotic scene unfolding.

Niki’s POV:

“What’s taking so long for y/n to come out?” Jake asked, cold wind blowing towards all of us. “She’s not replying either so I don’t know..” Hanni replied as she continues to rub her hand with Isa’s, trying to gain warmth. I sighed as I continue to spam call her. Clicking on the contact name “baby🤍” again, few seconds later, it still goes to voice mail.

“Right this is actually getting ridiculous imma go in.” I said as I pushed pass Ricky and Jake. “Yo bro she’s probably coming out!” Hearing both of them yell. I could care less, what if something happened to her? I could care less if they were following me too. I passed through the glass doors towards the pool, seeing a silhouette of someone, just standing there looking towards the pool. My eyes dashed towards the pool, realizing the person standing was Isabelle, chuckling. I see bubbles coming up from pool below. Y/n.. she pushed y/n into the deepest end of the pool.

“Bro what’s going on-”

Nothing but worry and desperation to save y/n came in the form of me. Without hesitation, l dove into the water, my arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her to the surface. The relief was short-lived as she coughed and gasped for air, realizing the danger she had narrowly escaped.

As Isabelle's malicious actions became apparent, Jake and Isa, witnessing the incident, restrained her in a fit of rage. “stop! Let me go! I didn’t do anything�� The confrontation attracted the attention of others – Jungwon, Ricky, and Hanni swiftly dialed for an ambulance. The urgency in their voices reflected the severity of the situation. “Please come quickly!”

I watched her face turning paler and paler, realizing she’s losing more oxygen. “Niki..cpr..” that’s the last thing she said before she faints in my arms. Fuck.. what do I do.. “NIKI! QUICK CPR! MOUTH TO MOUTH! GIVE HER OXYGEN!” Isa yelled, who was once a lifeguard in her own right, I immediately started administering CPR. Each compression and breath carried the weight of a lifeline as y/n’s oxygen supply dwindled. The fear in my eyes mirrored the desperate struggle to revive y/n. I promise I’ll save you love.. you would not die in my arms today.. my tears and sweat drops along with the pool water. I know we haven’t kissed and I know we aren’t a thing yet but I would do anything to save you right now.. slightly opening her mouth as I breath into her mouth, her pale but yet soft lips touches mines, snapping out of my thoughts, I quickly start giving her cpr again. After a few more seconds, y/n starts coughing up more water. Her eyes filled with tears as she grabs onto my arm. I pulled her into my embrace as I pat her back smoothly. Whisper nothing but soft caring words.

“Is okay love.. your fine.. I’m here..”

The distant wail of an approaching ambulance added to the chaotic symphony. In the background, the school's teacher and principal arrived, flanked by a police officer who took swift action against Isabelle's reckless act. Isabelle was led away, restrained, and destined for the police station.

Amid the chaos, y/n was carefully placed on a stretcher as paramedics took over. The urgency in their movements reflected the critical nature of the situation. Niki, visibly shaken but determined, accompanied y/n to the ambulance.

The flashing lights of the ambulance cut through the darkness as it sped towards the hospital. Y/n lay on the stretcher, consciousness fading in and out. Niki held onto her hand, still soft even with the tubs in it, his concern etched across his face. The paramedics worked diligently, monitoring y/n’s vital signs, battling against time.

At the hospital, the ER team swiftly took over. Niki, desperate for answers, waited anxiously outside. The gravity of the situation weighed heavily on him. The others soon arrives as minutes stretched into an agonizing eternity. Finally, a doctor emerged. Everyone heart pounded as he awaited the verdict. The doctor's words were a mix of relief and concern

“Your the reason she’s alive right now. She’s fully conscious and safe. But the accident has fully affected her.” Isa and Hanni’s heart hurts just by listening to his words. “You may visit her but please be gentle with her.” The group thanked him as they walked into the room.

Isa and Hanni quickly walk in, seeing y/n still smiling even after the terrible accident made the girls burst into tears. Walking towards her as they hugged her carefully.

“You don’t even know how worry we were of you…” Hanni sobbed into y/n’s embrace. “My girls is okay I’m okay..thank you for being here..” y/n whispered as she continue to hug them. Intak and Ricky ripped both of the girls from you as they hugged you. “We were worried sick, we thought we were going to lose you..”, “You should thank Niki. He really saved you…” intak exclaimed as he moved aside, trying to collect his tears. You looked over and see the boy you fell in love months ago, soaked wet. He walks up to you, pulling you into his embrace. Still warm even thought he’s fully drained. Tears starts to flow into your eyes as you realized your currently alive with the people you love because of him.

“Thank you for saving me…”

“I will save you everyday my love..” He kisses your forehead as you melt into his warm arms.

“For your information, the others are coming soon.” Isa informed, groans filled the room as it’s going to turn chaotic once the others arrive.. at least you’re surrounded with love today..

I truly love ToA and believe that it's a very good series that doesn't get appreciated enough. On the other hand I think that's a blessing bc it's not easy to truly understand Apollo as a character on first reading or without spending a lot of time reading well made analysis of him. Like, he is so complex and most people would reduce him just to "he was a prock but now he's good after the trials" which is just so oversimplified that I can barely call it a correct assesment of what happend.

Like, there are some things in ToA that you can't really realize without finishing the series first (I'm not gonna spoil it bc only shitty people spoil stuff)

Anyways, I hope you enjoy ToA it's a genuinely good series with great characters, story and development, and while Apollo may seem annoying at first he grows into (in my personal opinion) one of the best characters in the Riordanverse

So far I am really enjoying it, and I agree that it doesn't get much attention in the fandom. At least, I've seen very few people actually talk about it and I've been in the pjo fandom for a long while.

And yes, Apollo's character is so interesting and I'd hate to see him dwindled down so something so simple (like what was done to Percy and Nico but that's a topic for another time). He's incredibly complex and I'm loving seeing his character unfold.

One of my favorite things about him and the series so far is that we don't really think about the gods themselves really having trauma until we get to read from Apollos point of view.

Thank you so much for not spoiling anything I hate it when people do that. (although I am aware of what happens in the next book and I might just sob)

I am excited to see Apollos character growth, especially since he is annoying right now but also very wet cat coded and I just wanna hug him lol.

I started playing as a Tav and switched to Durge before I even finished the game bc the story felt… incomplete? Shallow? Like, every companion is intricately tied to the story and has good reasons for being there! Every companion feels like they could be the main character! Except Tav, who is a total nobody blank slate who comes in and saves the day because they’re supposed to be a stand in for your D&D blorbo.

But Durge feels like they belong in the story in a way Tav doesn’t. Durge feels like the actual main character of the game, meant to lead the other companions. Whereas Tav felt like a stray dog they picked up on the side of the road for all they bring to the game.

The ONLY reasons I could justify someone picking Tav over Durge is if they legitimately cannot handle gore, like it’s a trigger, in which case fair enough I guess. Or they wanna project their D&D oc’s background onto Tav, in which case they’re definitely playing manic pixie dream girl and should admit that with their whole chest.

I don't actually care that much how others play the game, I just resent the way the Dark Urge and ALL the origins get cucked out of meaningful development because of the game's slavish devotion to catering to player interests.

The game is entirely dedicated to your customizable character, but you can't write a real story when you DON'T KNOW what a person might choose to do, and instead of focusing on one or two meaningful developments, they instead split into 1000 different small, useless dialogue changes to account for a fucking rock you tripped on in act 1 that has to be referenced all the way to act 3.

I have played the game far more than most people, backwards and forwards, and I can see this issue.

Others can't, because they played the game once, were satisfied, and then dropped it.

All it takes is a couple of playthroughs to see the holes and tears in the story, which were unavoidable, because they stretched out the story too far, until it was close to tearing apart.

So. I don't necessarily care how you want to play the game. I just resent the game, for how it churlishly throws situations at you to react to, rather than having an organic story that, in exchange for removing SOME of your freedom, actually unfolds and tells itself.

Jasico Royal AU or whatever idk anw the idea is that there were two sides to war and Jason was tasked with assassinating Nico. However there was an accident and he ended up losing his memories, saving Nico in some accidents and being picked up by Nico, and later developing affection for his savior without realizing he was supposed to kill him.

It was a cute story, yada yada. AND then one day, Nico found out that Jason was actually sent to kill him. Before Jason himself remembered, mind you.

He's heartbroken, feeling betrayed, etc all that stuff. And of course, he can't just ask Jason about it, now can he?.

So basically after that they just go around in this sort-of tense situation in which Nico keeps wondering if all this - the amnesia, this thing they've gotten (think it the way you like i know nothing anymore) - is just a scam to get his guard down.

Imagine. Nico helplessly and painfully fell more in love at any good things Jason did for him whilst beating himself up to the belief that it was just all a lie. Falling in despair at the thought that he had exposed himself too much to someone planning to kill him. At the thought that no one actually loved him, after all.

All the while Jason had no idea. So he kept being nice to Nico and expressing his affection, having not a clue it only tears Nico apart. Jason didn't know anything (bc he was just an amnesia servant Nico picked up somewhere and thus stayed close to only him), though he was sensitive enough to know something was troubling Nico, and his intimacy might be a factor, which ended up distancing them further - which might or might not further cement the theory in Nico's head.

Their love is tethering. Delicious. I'd eat that shit up.

Now. When Jason does remember his task though. He'd have to choose - to continue (now that he had gotten Nico's trust to some degree, whilst wondering if Nico himself could have found out) or to ditch the mission, fake amnesia, and remain by Nico's side as it was, basically lying to Nico.

You'd say that the wise choice would to just lay all his cards out. But. Would it hurt Nico? Wouldn't he feel betrayed? (He really did HAHAHA) Would Nico even trust him? (He's trying) Would Jason even make it out alive when it's revealed that he's an assassin coming to take the life of a prince/ king/ whatever?

So many variables. So Jason kept it down.

BUT the truth will out. Oh, and the moment it was out. how spectacular it would be. when all the cards unfold and Nico realized that Jason remembered, and everything they had had was just a lie. Even though Jason was actually sincere. Even though he had tried so hard just to stay by Nico's side. Nico just couldn't bring himself to believe and it wasn't even his fault. Their words would never reach.

Nico let Jason escape - just because Jason had saved him once. So Jason had no choice but to return to his kingdom. The war had been declared at the exposed assassinating attempt.

And the next time they see each other, they'd be enemies.

If I had enough willpower I could literally make this a 50-something chapter long-fic but I don't. So.

i can't believe wot is almost over. withholding judgement until ep8 but it feels like there's not enough time per season. it's frustrating bc the show introduces great ideas with no time to fully explore (eg: love this take on rand/lanfear but disappointed by the lack of real fallout from rand so far). i worry abt the impact in later seasons when all the characters start doing questionable things if development has been so limited by time. we need to care abt them *before* the war crimes start!

i feel you, anon! i'm also definitely waiting to see how things unfold, and also how the complete picture (for the season, at least) looks once we have the whole thing and aren't taking in the episodes week to week.

that said, i agree — 8 episodes per season is really not enough time to dig into this much story, even as much as the storylines have been slimmed down for the television format. there's too much going on, and too many characters, to do effective character work for all of the leads (let alone everyone). i very much hope that in future seasons we get more episodes apiece, which should help with the strain! i'll admit that i think the time they have could have been used more effectively, but that's something i'll comment upon more once the season is over. it's critical to establish what the main characters are like at the outset so that the changes they undergo can have a real impact, so i feel you re: caring about them! we'll just have to wait and see how it goes.

i also do have a Lot of thoughts about randfear as well — the handling was quite good to set up lanfear as a scary, serious antagonist! but if we don't get appropriate fallout, and tbf if we don't get any of it this season, that's going to be highly irresponsible writing imo. if you're going to create a storyline where the character is in a sexual relationship where he has impaired consent, i think you do have a responsibility to demonstrate clear narrative awareness of the violation the character underwent. but we'll see what the last few episodes bring.

there really isn’t anything i dislike about him. he’s very well written, and most of his flaws are part of his character development. i guess if i had to pick something, it’d be the distance he keeps with his employees. he doesn’t share much with them, and it results in him being revered a bit more intensely than i’d prefer. then again i am biased bc i love found family ADA so fucking much. stop being a heavily respected figure and get your ass out there and be a mother.

SUCH A GOOD FUCKING LINE????? when i initially watched his backstory unfold, i really hadn’t expected it to be as intense as it was. this moment is also such a good example of how strong he is mentally. if my memory stands correct, there’s only four characters who stopped killing: Odasaku, Dazai, Akutagawa, and Fukuzawa. of the four, only Fukuzawa stopped entirely of his own volition. the others were influenced by another person (Odasaku by Natsume, Dazai by Odasaku, and Akutagawa by Atsushi.) i’m not saying that it makes any of their own decisions less significant, just saying that it’s fascinating how Fukuzawa was so,, alone in his own redemption, for lack of better terminology. i could rant about this for years but im gonna shut up now

the main story cn pv reminded me of a question I had! sorry if it's boring / has been discussed on here before, but how do you think the timeline of the game works? do you read the main story as an au different from the universe in which Rosa is with one of the guys (which means there'd be at least 4 "universes", one per guy but with the main story as part of that development), or do you see it as entirely seperate?

I personally tend to like the idea that the main story is a precursor to the relationships / happens within the first year before they start dating. I think it (as of what we have on global rn) has to come before that first anni mark, bc the boys are still stuck in some of the issues they had before they began to develop. also, some of the important developments from the main story must exist, such as meeting vyn in his home or defending Marius in ep 2 for their respective stories to even exist, which implies some sort of layover between the two. some characters, such as Harry grant, also appear in events tailored toward the others (if I recall, harry appears in the event for vyns first birthday), which implies the story has continued beyond the point "required" (only up to ep 2 is 100% necessary to begin vyns route) for each ml. in my opinion, this implies that the main story has unfolding effects on the story, but it feels like we see less of the latest chapters have impact into the specific solo ml events or stories.

the events do sow a little more chaos imo. the really big events imply a realistic passage of time; 3rd anni event seemed implied to have also come in the 3rd year since Rosa joined nxx. but this also feels like a wrinkle because it stands in the way of the idea of it existing in the same timeline as Rosas relationship with whatever man. if they were doing the blizzard red thread event as an nxx team, it implies the nxx duty has not been completed, right? but at that time in the mls story line, they were dating right?

I find it hard to believe Rosa is in a relationship w whichever guy at the time of the main story just due to their lacking growth. as a vyn stan, it's most apparent in him to me. in the main story he struggles w trust and still seems very standoffish, but these are things he has begun working on and continues working on as his feelings, and eventually relationship, develop. I'm not as bothered by some differences, like how Luke's illness is revealed in the main story vs how it was revealed to Rosa in his story, bc I can reason that to myself as making up for the fact that not everyone plays everyone's stories or in whatever universe, such as one where Rosa is with Artem, she would not find out as she did in Luke's story, but if she were with luke, maybe his main story would "take presidence" in the sense of what's canon? I guess in the sense of a weird if; then sort of thing?

idk if this made sense and I'm so sorry it's so dreadfully long and ranty. I have a lot of thoughts about how the storylines could connect but also struggle to line up, and I was curious as to what anyone else had to think or say about it, especially if there's any details I'm for getting. but also as this is so long pls don't feel the need to answer it, or even to answer it with something like super detailed. but yeah i view them as different timelines. mostly because it's a headache to marry all the timelines into one, but also because luke (my brain's constant focus) is so different in his romance route and main story route. i view those two lukes as separate versions of luke, and thus these stories as stories that happen independent of each other

I hate those characters, lol, not sure I can handle a whole ass book where someone like that is the protagonist. So I'm humbling asking for clarification: is it true? is mo ran like that?

Hello! I'm not finished with Erha yet, probably only about halfway through, but let's see if I can answer this all right.

So here's the thing - that's not only a better depiction of initial Chu Wanning over Mo Ran, but Jiang Cheng definitely does not qualify for that depiction. Even then, it's less of a full character and more of a mask as one of the themes I'm seeing develop is that everyone in the story wears a mask of some kind to conceal their true feelings. So you have to give the characters some time to see them outside of pithy character descriptions.

That being said, Mo Ran is basically a walking tragedy. He's not the greatest person at the start of the novel, but as things unfold, he grows and changes and we see that what he is underneath all of it pretty quickly is... a kicked dog more than anything else. He responds to what he understands and what he's given in both kindness and cruelty and in many ways he just is wounded in ways where it doesn't even begin to scar over for ages. It can take a bit to get into him, he definitely did some pretty bad stuff as Taxian-jun and it takes a while for him to really change enough to look back on those things and change his actions, but it's so far been a really rewarding journey.

(I agree with you on Jiang Cheng and Mu Qing when it comes to that description not fitting them)

I'm new to marauders, this is the second fic I've read.

Summary: I liked this fic, a lot. It was a fun read and I really liked the progression of both Wolfstar and James/Lili (is it Jilly? I can’t remember). A bit less angsty than what I usually read and some parts felt underbaked, but the author kept my attention INCREDIBLY. I stayed up about four hours later than I usually do binge reading this. Very good.

Werewolf shit was fantastic to read, the angst, the fear, the violence, the drama. I thought the transformations were excellently done and I really enjoyed the progression of them figuring out the roaming/playing

I did not enjoy that I cannot be sure they are safe. That’s a benefit of post-hog warts fic, if its truly marauders James and Lily often don’t die.

Overall very happy fic. I did love the aggressive use of drunkness as a plot device, I liked Lily’s characterization for the most part, and it was pretty addicting in the middle.

I thought Characterization was good, not fantastic but definitely good. Peter threw me, not very likable. It’s hard to do him correctly and have him add worth to the story, but I just did not like him the whole time, and I felt like Remus and Sirius both didn’t care for him and found him annoying.

My rankings are not supposed to be biased. Horrible shitty fic would get like a one, something readable but bad would get a fourish. Most fics that I read will be around 7-9 simply because I sort by Kudos and get recs from misuss so they’re better quality to begin with.

Great light silly read, with just enough depth to keep it interesting. I could see myself re-reading this fic once I get to know the marauders better.

Also, I do not like the fanart in this fic but I'm sure that's not universal. The artist is credited within the fic but I'd like to tag them here just to acknoledge the hard work that went into it. the main point of this story was to take a basic trope and tell it from the perspective of 'the villain', when i started writing it it wasn't with the point of san falling for her instead of boyoung (i didnt even think about who yn would end up with until i was halfway through writing the drafts for it) it was with the intent to give the villain an actual story and background and flesh her out as a character. the main point of this story isn't love, it's the mean popular girl having the starring role and how she feels when she watches the usual wattpad-esque good girl/player story unfold
