#bc y’all love to act like this show desended from the heavens and you balk at anyone talking about its flaws

I dunno…its antiblack as fuck and nobody ever talks about it, OTHER than other black people. Nobody talks about Bismuth, or the comparisons between sugilite and sardonyx, or how the show has a fucking human zoo (which were real btw) just so there was a bunch of ‘uwu so hot people’. Nobody talks about the sidelining of Garnet for the diamonds, Rose and Pearl and how she was both a stoic and magical negro for much of the show. Oh, and don’t forget how Concrete somehow magically ‘snuck’ by Sugar despite being a literal minstrel character.

Oh god! I also forgot how Pearl got to violate Garnet’s consent and Garnet had to basically comfort Pearl and Pearl’s feelings and hastily make up or they’d both die. Disgusting.

That’s why I don’t like the show. Not because of how lgbt friendly it was. And quite frankly it could have been more for lgbt people (tell me why the only nonbinary characters are fusions and the one between two kids is only fem until they finally get a stubble like 4 seasons later?)

(y’all love to harp on this and then ignore the racism but im not trying to be enbyphobic and say you can’t be nb and fem. What i mean is, Stevonnie isn’t completely accurate of both of their gender presentations. Stevonnie brings out both of their femininity which is great, but then Steven’s masculinity is left at the door? How is that fair?)

Why did it take until a sequel series to get a HUMAN nonbinary character? Sure, the gems are mono gender but having a gender identity be entirely represented by an alien race is not entirely the win y’all think it is. They wouldn’t have made Shep in Future if the crew didn’t think so themselves.

And don’t even get me started on how much it cribs from Utena for nothing but the aesthetics while simultaneously missing the fucking point of Utena and its themes.
