Am I allowed to do a Six Sentence Sunday on Friday??? Last week's that @myoxisbroken started got me so pumped up and inspired, and I'm so excited anticipating all these exciting works in progress that y'all teased us with!
Last week @just-the-hiddles had teased us with an OFC struggling to get the attention of our lovely Magnus Martinsson who was far too engrossed in his work to take notice of her efforts.
I have an idea! In fact my OFC may just steal your Magnus right from under your nose my dear @just-the-hiddles . You see, all of the "Sex Pollen" fics y'all have been churning out recently has gotten me fit to be tied! Holy fuck! Especially the one @frostbitten-written wrote. Blame it on the Pollen. OMG! I think that was the hottest "Sex Pollen" story I've ever read! And I have read a LOT these past two years.
So I couldn't resist getting distracted from what was supposed to be working on, and started a "Sex Pollen" fic of my own. I haven't named the OFC yet, but she encounters s beautiful Magnus Martinsson on her commute home one Friday evening. Here are my seven sentences from this WIP.
The moment she sat down, the vibrations of the train immediately caught the attention of her newly awakened inner slut. She slid her ass over a few inches to center her cunt directly on the hard metal hump that divided up the seats and purred from the heavenly stimulation. Subtly adjusting the pressure point with minute angle changes in her posture created the most pleasant feeling of warmth that began to extend up into her chest.
A whimper slipped out with each jolt that broke the gentle rumbling rhythm. A sneaky smile slipped onto her lips, yet she remained unaware of her expression, only focused inward, eyelids drooping closed, and anxiously waiting for the next flaw in the track.
She had completely forgotten about the few people still occupying this train car, including that devastating Mr. Angel-face who had a Masters Degree in Observation. His gaze hadn't left her since she sat down.
What do you think??
................
By the way, last week's Six Sentence Sunday gave excerpts of WIPs by some great authors who you will want to keep an eye on. I didn't get a chance to comment earlier, so I will now. And I beg you all to tag me!!! Please! Just add me to your whole enchilada tag list if your lists are still open?
@myoxisbroken teased her fic with a gif of Pine holding Jeb with a knife to her neck. Holy shit! Any fic inspired by that has got to be exciting! I can't wait to read your Jonathan Pine!!
@caffiend-queen teased us with the most evil gif of Chris Evans in a bright purple shirt that someone must have just painted onto him. I don't know what the hell he's actually doing in that gif, but the gif alone does freaky things to my... But the point of her participation was to tease the next chapter of It'll Be Good For You. This is a DELICIOUS entry in the "My Landlord is a Vampire" Challenge. SQUEAL!
@imanuglywombat teased us with delicious seductive thoughts for her Alpha/Omega WIP. *grrrrowl..... My interest is so piqued to read one with Danvers involved. Oh yes. *Wicked thirsty smile.
*SCREAMING WITH EXCITEMENT!!! Another chapter of Bottom of the Hourglass was in the works last Sunday by @nildespirandum . She teased us with six sentences of our brooding musical creature of the night getting swept away with his music. Good god, the images she conjured up in my mind left me mesmerized as well.*swoon.
@rauko-art is working on an Inuyasha fanfic with Sessoumaru!!! My kids and I just recently discovered Inuyasha this summer. It is a really fun anime set in medieval Japan filled to the brim with mythological gods and demons. The possibilities are endless. The show is so rich in story with beautifully developed characters. I highly recommend it for everyone. I CAN'T WAIT TO READ @rauko-art 's fan fic!!!
@mermaidxatxheart 's tease for her WIP hooks me immediately with one my biggest kink. The character wakes up thinking something is "integrally wrong." *SQUEAL!!! Blackouts or amnesia or losing time are a huge guilty pleasure of mine. I have no idea where this is going, but I definitely need to hop on for this ride! Please?
(Psst....Throw in gaslighting and a little bondage or trapped to go with that amnesia and you'll put me into a trance from being so turned on. I just wanted to put that out there on case anyone was looking for ideas. *Wink)
@pagesoflauren 's teaser has me bouncing in my seat needing to dive into this fic!! OH WOW!! I need to I find a link to this!! Please please tag me! Are you up on AO3?
@threeminutesoflife used a gorgeous gif from Knives Out (2019) of Ransom all stabby with the knives sculture in the background. Omg, the gif alone has me so on the edge of my seat! I can't wait to read this fic!
Some of these fics may be DARK fictions.
ALL links above are in blue.
ALWAYS READ THE TAGS!
Be a responsible reader!
I have been trying to get more organized with tag lists. I threw this list couple weeks below mostly just of people who l thought might be interested to hear when I actually get my butt in gear and post something or write something. Let me know if you want on or off any lists, my everything list, versus included dark fics that may have noncon/dubcon, versus Tom characters only, versus no RPF aka no Real!Tom, plus a list for heads up when i reblog @nildespirandum , bc she SUCKS at self promotion and y'all are missing out if you haven't read her works yet. She is aka Misreall in AO3.

i enjoyed TNG because i enjoyed characters like Data, Worf, Ro Laren, Geordi la Forge and Miles O'Brien. they were decent people and they were good characters to have in a show. i tend to write off the way Geordi approached dating as part of the same writing that caused Riker to go around being casually misogynistic (the casual bit makes it worse imo bc Riker doesn't see himself as such). anyway, Geordi and Data definitely have a queerplatonic thing going on.
this is a real long ramble so here's one of them 'keep reading' cuts
I also enjoyed TNG because there was a focus on diplomacy. in particular, episodes where the Federation were called in as a 3rd party to mediate and host negotiations, talks, treaties etc.
does that play into the idea of the Federation being "superior" ? in context with the other stuff, i suppose so. however, on its own, i doesn't. episodes where the senior staff of the Enterprise took it upon themselves to jump in and sort out complex sociopolitical problems themselves ?? yeah that was colonial af and left a bad taste in my mouth.
before i get into directly addressing Riker, Picard, and the whole Federation-centric thing (i'm not going anywhere near Roddenberry either though it doesn't surprise me both him and his dad were cops lmao; progressive mediocre white men always seem to end up holding on to some kind of bigotry - usually sexism or antisemitism, it seems), i wanna talk about what i see overall in TNG.
it's a hopeful series. the whole thing is shrouded in this sense of betterment, achievement, discovery etc. and sometimes that's genuinely great (Data learning to dream, the various undiscovered lifeforms that have briefly boarded the ship, first contact with the Tamarians). other times it's the Space Navy assuming their superiority and imposing that on others they encounter. if anything, preventing this white knight colonial mindset is one of the best reasons for the Prime Directive existing (the whole "we can't offer them aid bc that's interfering....wait what if we bend the rules and lie to the savage people so we can help without letting them know we have the power of their gods" thing bothers me for multiple reasons, but preventing Starfleet from going and "educating" other species, other settlements, who have no knowledge of space travel, is a good thing).
there are times when the crew of the show tries to be self-reflective about the Federation, but it often ends up being "the Admirals suck" or "okay, you made your point, now let us continue as we were anyway". DS9 handles critique of the Federation far better. sometimes it's about the individuals, sometimes the wider structure. i'm only starting season 3 but already the Federation has been rinsed out by various Bajorans in and out of government, a couple Cardassians (one ex-military tailor and one current gul), a few members of Starfleet, and Quark. everyone's favourite capitalism fetishist. DS9 also handles gender better (in one very short scene) than any of the multiple times TNG tried it.
before i get into talking more about the good stuff in TNG, i just wanna say that the elements of biological essentialism (both re: gender and race) in TNG really bother me. also Riker's implicit homophobia. he all but said "okay, you're part of an androgynous race, but i can just pretend you're female right ?" to someone he was trying to fuck. turns out she did see herself as female but the idea of more than one gender was suppressed by her planet's government. i'm glad she spoke out but it bothers me how convenient that was for Riker.
but, before i delve into stuff about Riker etc. i did want to reiterate that the exploration and discovery episodes and the character episodes (particularly Data, Worf, and Ro episodes) were the main strengths of TNG. at least to me.
now onto Riker. the main things he did of value were sit funny, look at the camera weirdly, and suggest ways to beat a situation by breaking or bending rules (not a bad thing, but not necessarily a good thing). i'm sure he did more than that but i can't think of anything specific, and he definitely qualifies for descriptions like "sleazy" and "smug". not a fan of how he treated Worf; it got less noticeable in later seasons, but was definitely still there. whether it's outright bigotry against Klingons or things he internalised or stuff specific to Worf is a question i don't know the answer to, but equally i suspect it doesn't matter. he still mistreated Worf and acted like he was superior for more reasons than the number of rank pips on his collar.
Picard....i think we've discussed him before lmao but idk if i can attribute everything to him specifically and not Starfleet as a whole. i can't comment on the caring more about praise than lives thing, and maybe that's true, but i can comment on the civilian aspect. firstly, civilians choose (or, more specifically, request) to be there. aside from the kids. their parents do that. secondly, Picard has detached the saucer section multiple times (though the one at warp was incredibly dangerous) to move civilians out of the way of a dangerous situation. thirdly, Starfleet is one of the only Official organisations without warships. they're also simultaneously the organisation for everyone to join and the organisation that stands in for Official Human Space Travel (even the Vulcans still have their own ships). this ties into the colonial thing, but it also means that Starfleet has to fit their general purpose and their exploration vessels with massive firepower because they also have to double as battleships unofficially. every other Galaxy-class starship has families, kids, students, medical staff-in-training, engineers-in-training, guests, civilian workers etc. and i imagine many of the other big classes of starship do also. the captains of those ships do the same as Picard - they follow their mission briefings and sometimes that puts them (and their crew and passengers) in danger. the things i would criticise about Picard are how he vocally challenges Admirals and ignores instructions, even ignores the Prime Directive, when he believes he should, and yet he will come down like a ton of bricks on any of his officers (senior/bridge staff as well as ensigns) who dare to challenge his authority, his instructions etc. he also does the classic thing of "well done soldier, your initiative saved us; you broke the rules to do it so here's your punishment" which bothers me no end. just about as much as when him (and/or Riker) will issue a challenge of authority, and then when it fails, they take out their frustration on the crew by having a go at the first crewmember who challenges the same order they did. that's just being a dick for no reason. but tbh, most of your critiques of Picard are more critiques of Starfleet.
i was gonna segue into the issue of colonial plots, but i think somewhere in this mess i've brought that up a few times now. i don't love TNG, but i do like aspects of it, and i'm passionate about it because of what it did well and what it really should've done better. i'm not sure how good a defence this is, but i do think it's an honest response.
oh ! i was going to mention that TNG has a lot of plot armour. the Enterprise shouldn't have escaped a lot of the situations that it did. not when the Odyssey (same class of ship) gets entirely obliterated during a rescue mission in DS9. difference is we only know the captain for like 5 minutes and had no idea who the crew or passengers were.
i can't speak for other fans, but if anything i'm a fan of the exploration, i'm a fan of the characters i mentioned at the start, i'm a fan of the engineering-focused episodes and some of the longer-running political stuff and negotiations and terraforming projects. i'm not a fan of the misogyny, the colonial notes, the racial stereotyping, the awkward attempts at gender politics, the way simpler plot arcs got to be carried out across one or more seasons, yet complex issues got reduced to one or two episodes with it going from disaster -> fixed in the last 5 minutes.
i guess the question is always "are the good parts worth the bad parts ?", though there's always there option of skipping episodes
I'm sure everyone is tired of me saying this but I still don't understand why TNG is the antithesis of what it's trying to be.
A main problem I have is Will Riker. He's misogynistic to every woman he talks to and racist to Worf in pretty much every scene they share, explaining earth concepts to the man as though he didn't grow up there. He's a smarmy asshole that thinks he's better than everyone, except maybe Picard.
But Picard is arguably a pretty shitty captain too. On a weekly basis he puts the lives of those aboard the enterprise, most of which are civilians mind you, and not once do we see him say "hey maybe they shouldn't be here". He constantly pulls off piloting manoeuvres, with a particularly dangerous one named after him, with this sense of pride. He doesn't care about these peoples lives, only the praise he gets for protecting them.
But even outside of these two characters, the plots feel really fucking colonial to me. A lot of them are just the crew going to some planet they've never heard of before, and solving a generations long issue within a few days. But the episodic nature of the show means that these seemingly complex social and political issues are boiled down to something akin to a kids show while showing Starfleet as this civilised group, helping these savages by just being better in every way.
I'm not even getting into Gene Roddenberry's... unique perspective (CW: pedophilia and incest) or everything Johnathan Frakes' apparently did, because I don't really know enough to comment on them and quite frankly I don't want to know any more. But all this culminates in something that feels incredibly counter to what I've been told Star Trek should be, and quite frankly I don't know how it has any fans to begin with. If anyone has insight on this I'd love to hear it but I genuinely don't understand.
#grrl.rb#tng#the next generation#star trek tng#this took way too long to write and tbh it's barely comprehensible#but here's some thought-soup ig
