i was homeschooled.
there's like. standardized tests that you have to pass to legally keep being homeschooled (at least in my state, it definitely varies around the US). so like. you do have to actually learn some shit
but like. I was getting ranked at "college level" for my better subjects by third or fifth grade so they're not exactly rigorous.
otherwise yeah. I got handed a textbook for each subject and given a workbook to fill out each month (my mom did not proofread any of that shit. I got taught civil war revisionism and she did not know until two years later when i mentioned something offhand). I am self-taught in literally every subject. I did my own grading. I was overtly suicidal at age 7 because i didn't have any friends my age and i was literally so lonely that i wanted to jump into traffic lmao
I think your parents also have to report some of your grades. but like. I did my own grading. my mom came up with the assignments and did not check my work unless she was mad at me.
do usamerican homeschool laws not have like, an official curriculum or something? like judging from twitter stuff homeschoolers are either like
group a: super strict educated kids who have abysmal social skills
group b: just straight up mentally neglected by their parents (just not taught anything, no curriculum etc)
and everytime shit happens its always group b and they keep pointing at group a as the excuse why they should continue mentally neglecting their kids
#actually. honestly from the outside you would count me as group A here#bc i did get into college early (dual enrolling) and that mostly Fixed Me#(and like. jesus christ. isolate a kid for 15 years and then throw them to the fucking wolves eh mom?)#i also got unrestricted internet access at 12 and frankly i would probably have actually Done Something Irreversible by now if i hadn't#suicide mention#should probably trigger tag that one huh#anyways the main difference between these 'two' groups is not how they are treated by the parents. the neglect is the same#it's if the child in question is the flavor of autistic that CAN learn from being handed a book and told to read it alone in silence#and is enough of a pathological people-pleaser to Try Anyways#I have seen it work well for some kids. at least for younger years#My cousinniece (also autistic) went to Real School for about six months before she started getting sick from the stress#at literally 5.#the classroom just didn't have the accommodations she needed. the accommodations she needs is just. virtual school. computer classes at hom#but like. her mom watched me and my brother get fucked over by our mom#she makes sure that damn kid socializes#and i believe the plan is to Computer School Plus Clubs until she's ready to rejoin society not raise her to be a recluse#LIKE MY BROTHER good god my mom ruined him#pushed him all the way through college while praising him for never building those 'worthless' soft skills#and now he's a 30 year old stay-at-home son#anyways. i hate thinking about this topic. i coulda been a really normal kid. had friends. instead i Hated Being Alive until i turned 17#slice of my pizza life
