Writing Scarlet is fun because in almost any situation where he has to interact with people over an extended period of time, his social skills will actively start to decay as he gets out of the area of "things he's practiced in and can bluff through in his sleep" and into the area of "having to deal with people who he has talked to more than once who can do things like spot inconsistencies and develop ideas and impressions about him".

#hes good at making short-term plans and moment-to-moment things based on a very short list of known quantities #hes absolute shit at anything once there are enough known quantities going on #bc his skills are almost entirely based on short-term bluffing #and the occasional ambush #he DOES NOT know how to handle a conversation with someone who knows he tells different people different things #bc generally his social skills start and end at luring people close enough to attack and eat #we speak #writing #bug fables #guy has the priorities of a wild fox with the faint veneer of a fancy guy and he VERY MUCH tailors his responses to like #what people seem most receptive to in a given interaction
