Discord: New Message Infodump

Yes this is not getting put in the widofjord tag because I don’t like filling up others’ searches with something that is not “directly” linked. *jazz hands* anxiety. BUT here is all I could think of and a sprinkling of things I have seen asked about or mentioned in the comments! May this and the last chapter hold you over <3

Q: Why a text fic?

A: Honestly? I have only ever seen one from VM (there may be others, but I don’t read many fics out of my niche sections?) that was between Grog/Vax (I don’t ship it but when it’s a bar shift #3 in a row that’s 14 hours long, you need entertainment). I had read also Call Me, Beep Me from the VLD fandom as well as Misuse of Stark Technology and thought that it was a strong platform for conversation and storytelling that shows multiple perspectives at once without the constant POV whiplash that can happen otherwise. And with the strong and chaotic personalities of TM9 and the diverse ways the NPCs interacted fit in, I hoped it wouldn’t be that hard to pull off.

I’ll be honest, I was not sure if it would work out or catch on as it is not the most popular form of storytelling. As many people said in the comments of chapters 1-5, people generally don’t enjoy texting fics and skip past them. I am glad I took the risk and that everyone has with me.

Q: Is it true you have not watched past Ep. 40?

A: Yes. Campaign 2 came out just before I started school, and I decided school deserved my full attention. I was also not as attached at large with the cast as an ensemble as I was with VM. This combined with having anxiety and needing something to be finished before I can enjoy made it difficult to get back into C2. I was lucky that I started Campaign 1 a few weeks before that ended. I will probably watch it when everything is over, but I mostly follow through spoilers and Arsequeef’s gifs.

Q: What are some of your influences for this?

A: I have seen a lot of people loving the realism of the conversations. I don’t watch TV or movies, but I watch streamers mostly, especially group streamers. Because of this, I tend to hear nothing but natural conversations. I also have been in group chats since the old AIM days and was a bartender for 6 years, so I have pulled from interactions that I have experienced around me. Often when something perfect happens in a chat with my friends I screen shot it for use later (the look spam and how do you uwu are both examples).

Q: Why that area?

A: I like to use locations I know well if there is a lot of real-world interactions. I am from Massachusetts and I had used Savannah, Ga., for Here’s To Us, where I lived for 4 years.

Q: Will the chat be renamed to The Mighty Nein or something similar?

A: No. The chat existed before Caleb as that and was set up originally by Fjord and Beau with Molly, Bryce, Darrow, and Yasha. It’s been the Game Hoes for too long in their life to change. There will be some side chats that appear and disappear.

Q: Didn’t Veth work with Caleb?

A: Originally that was the plan, but halfway through the first chapter, I decided to space everyone out better and missed her name in one paragraph at the beginning of the chapter. I wanted them to know each other but avoid the trope of “direct connection” with strangers to lovers and text fics.

Q: How tall is Fjord (and the rest of them by proxy)

A: I changed the heights because Caleb is canon “Average height” which in DnD is different than the US. So, he was given a few extra inches to put him at 5’10”. Fjord was scaled up because we love height differences to 6’3” because of that. By order of height:

Veth- 4’11, Kiri- 5’, Keg and Yeza- 5’3, Jester and Rissa- 5’4, Astrid- 5’5, Bryce, Beau, and Wulf- 5’9, Beau, Caleb, Molly, and Ava- 5’10, Yasha- 5’11, Darrow and Essek- 6’, Fjord and Gunther- 6’3, Cad and Enzo- 6’5.

I’m probably forgetting some people.

Q: Why did Enzo’s arc allegedly end that way?

A: I’m not sure I’m done with him just yet, but the reason it had to be let go like that is simple: legality. Real world consequences to acts would have kind of thrown a wrench in how this all unfolds. And Molly was the character who I felt could bounce back the best from getting a solid ass kicking.

Q: Why was Astrid faster at accepting than Wulf, and why is he so possessive?

A: Wulf was Caleb’s first real friend and that meant he was the redhead’s world. Astrid came second and she realized how quickly jealousy can sour something. Wulf’s jealousy fed into the break-up. So, despite the awkwardness, she wanted to show Caleb that she meant it when she said they could still be friends.

Wulf was Caleb’s first friend, and he has that sense of seniority in his mind and has a hard time accepting he is not being replaced when new people come around. And as a more dominant person, it was hard for him to have the normally docile friend speak out against him. He is still immature and needed to grow, but has a hard time seeing that is okay right now.

Q: Where does everyone attend?

A: Amherst College- Astrid, Caleb, Essek, Wulf. Boston College- Cad. Emerson- Beau, Gunther, Enzo, Fjord, Keg, Molly, Rissa, and Yasha. Princeton- Bryce. Hofstra- Jester and Kiri. UConn- Yeza (Graduated). UMass/Boston University/Tufts- NPCs not brought in yet.

Q: Any reason why you picked those schools?

A: I’m a BC fan (and Providence College), my childhood friend went to Emerson, and I was accepted to Hoftstra before I joined the military instead. Amherst was a perfect “nearby” city that was another college town/I am maybe looking at Amherst for a PhD. Program.

Q: Where is Darrow stationed when not crashing Bryce’s life or deployed? What does he do?

A: Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was attached to the 26th MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit) that goes through the Mediterranean. He currently is on hospital duty as a temporary “relaxation period” for people who are deployed often. As he is a paladin, I thought it’d be a nice touch to have him as an FMF Corpsman.

Q: Where is everyone from? The holidays showed people all over and it’s mentioned some people were not born in the US or where they were located.

A: This is where that spreadsheet I made comes in handy. Most of the people either grew up in or intend to stay in Massachusetts for a long while. As there are some of the major schools in that area, obviously people would be out of state.

Boston TM9 Party

The Clay Family is in Jamaica Plains, which is just outside of Boston proper. They are from there, minus Toya who is adopted as well and from Maine.

Molly was the godson of Cad’s mother, who is from England and his father had been stationed in England for some time, so when he was essentially orphaned and given up by the indirect family, she put through the paperwork to take him in. Fjord and Yasha stayed with them.

Fjord is originally from Texas, outside of El Paso. After he joined the Navy, he never intended to move home as he hated it there. He fell in love with New England when he was sent TAD (Temporary Assignment of Duty) to the naval base in Newport. He stayed and continued his education at Emerson.

Yasha is from Jamaica Plains as well and went to school with Molly and Ornna, who is the same age as them. Her dad is from South Carolina and her mother is from Okinawa. They moved up north for her dad’s work.

Beau is from Kentucky and her family is unreasonably wealthy. She decided to go to school someplace as un-Kentucky as she could fathom and was stuck between Berkley and Emerson but chose the former because the weather meant her mother would never visit.

The Amherst Crew (Astrid and Wulf) are all from the area except for:

Caleb, was born in Poland to a Polish/German family. They moved and when his family died in a fire (he was at a sleepover at the time) his grandparents took him in. Wulf was still there with his large family and

Essek had returned home to California for the break.

Astrid and her family spent 10 days in Key West for the holidays, which is why she missed the New York trip. Wulf stayed locally for winter break.

The Conn/NY/NJ Groups are pretty straightforward.

The Brenattos stayed in New Haven, where they moved when Luc was born from Amherst. They had moved so Veth could start fresh.

Jester was surprised by a visit from her mother on Christmas Day and spent it with her. It was the first time her mom came from the Ukraine, as Jester’s dad is the one who she moved with. She lives on Long Island not far from her school.

Kiri is from upstate New York and was home for the Holidays.

Bryce drove down to Louisiana. They and Darrow are from Marietta, but they were at their grandmother’s place in Lafourche Parish. Darrow returned to Jacksonville NC.

Others Keg and Gunther were in Rhode Island but separately, where they are both from, Rissa is from Maine and went home, and Enzo was in jail (he is from Lynn, Ma).

Q: How old is everyone?

A: 5- Luc. 19- Kiri, 20- Jester, Rissa, Keg, and Enzo, 21- Beau, Molly, Yasha, Essek, and Astrid, 22- Caleb, Cali, Reani, and Wulf. 24- Cad, 25- Fjord and Bryce. 27- Veth and Darrow. 28- Yeza.

Q: If Fjord has the GI Bill why does he live on campus or have a job?

A: For those who don’t know how the GI Bill works, the government pays for education and sends some money based on housing in the zip code of the school. Boston is insanely expensive and student living is easier. Essentially, he wanted the “college experience” and it was cheaper. He needs the job more because he knows better than to let himself get idle. If he does, he won’t focus on school. Like Travis, my Fjord has ADHD.

Q: How did Veth and Caleb meet?

A: In a Juvenile’s in-patient program for at-risk teenagers and those suffering from mental health issues. Caleb’s depression and anxiety following the death of his parents and the constant bullying for numerous things and previous attempts or ideations had him labeled “at risk” for self-harm. He was in for 3 weeks. Veth was in for her kleptomania and possible signs of disruptive BPD or other developing personality disorders but aged out of the youth section when she turned 18. As most diagnoses cannot be done for those until adulthood, she was being watched for early onset signs.

Q: How did Jester/Veth get into the group?

A: Jester met Beau, Yasha and Molly at NYCC two years’ prior in line for a panel. They met again at Anime Boston after exchanging Twitter handles a few months later. Jester had worked NYCC a year ago and helped Veth to a quiet room for Luc, who was fussing, then stayed with her as she was on break soon. She invited Veth to play a few games of Don’t Starve Together with her and Yasha before she was brought into the main group.

Q: This is a really diverse cast. What is everyone and why?

A: Some were obvious choices such as Caleb being from Germany, Jester being from Eastern Europe (Ukrainian), and Molly as Irish (and English).

Others I did to flush out to make a group in a major city make more sense. Wulf and Astrid both have French/ Germanic backgrounds because in canon, they were raised in a similar way. Astrid is Jewish along with Caleb to hint at why it may have been easier for them to date if her family was stricter than his.

Fjord and Yasha faced some racial issues early on in the show (Yasha from where she was from and Fjord for being a half orc), so I wanted them to be people of color. Yasha is half Japanese because of her name and because US troops often marry someone from Japan when they are single and stationed there. Her father is Jamaican in decent. Fjord’s dad he figures is Black but they’ve never met, as his mother’s side are Mexican. I chose that because I wanted to keep the Texan because a lot of people in the service are from Texas. Also, as previously stated, I had too many naturalized or foreign students already and needed to not stress over how they would be around for the breaks.

Cad is English, Norwegian, and Swedish because Cad is a god, who why not make him a Norse god? Veth is half Cambodian partially because there is a decent population size in Massachusetts. Beau is the not white-passing cousin of her family which will come in later because rich families have secrets, yo. Her family has some Cajun/Creole in her like Darrow but it shouldn’t be there according to her family lineage.

Essek is Persian, Rissa is Puerto Rican, Bryce and Keg are “Confused American Mixes” of everything. Cali I have not decided yet, but will probably have some English in her, Reani I have decided on Moroccan. Kiri is Korean.

Enzo is an asshole (he’s also mix of random European heritage.) I feel like I missed someone.

Q: Is Widofjord the only pairing we will see?

A: There are some others forming, including BeauYasha, which was one of the possibilities when I started. Molly/Essek/Astrid were a shock and some others I won’t spoil just yet are starting to bud as hopefuls.

Q: Do you have an end game in sight?

A: Honestly, as this whole fic has taken on a life of its own, not entirely. It was originally mapped out to be 12 chapters long and have much of this condensed down with all the side characters removed, no Enzo or hockey games, and the extra fluff cut out. As I wrote it, I found I enjoyed that almost more than the Widofjord specifics. So, this has really evolved away from a Widofjord ONLY fic, I am aware. Endgame wise, when I feel the story is told, I will wind it down, but there are more elements evolving with every chapter and I want these characters to get the moments they’re aiming toward. I also don’t want it to drag on too long, so I know that this will eventually come to an end.

Q: Did anything change relationship wise while writing?

A: 100%. Beau and Jester were originally who I expected to pan out, but my Jes couldn’t seem to devote to that because she had developed more attraction to Molly and Fjord than I expected. Beau and Yasha just clicked better. Molly was the next option for Jester, but then I decided to make Essek and Astrid actual friends with the TM9 and we see how that went.

Q: Is Jester going to find something happier? It kind of sucked seeing her so down and withdrawn these last few chapters. And where is Nott’s role now?

A: I am trying with Jessy. I am. Here’s to hoping she behaves? As for Nott, she is shining as the mom friend, but her coming into the fray more means bad things are happening. And yes, that is on the way.

Q: You keep hinting at something in both Caleb and Fjord’s pasts. Are we ever going to see that?

A: Yes. I am trying to space out the angst as much as possible. This was never meant to be a hurt/comfort type story, but people have mental health issues and those because pivotal to the story more than I intended. Maybe the curse of having complete access to everyone’s conversations? But they will be coming out.

I'm loving your reviews! here's some things i wanted to add that i found interesting: 1) In Kim's dream, 'Simon' looks like Gideon, which shouldn't be a thing bc, as far as we know, Guideon was never in Kims head, so i think this was honestly a mistake on O'malleys part

2) It's very subtle but taking care of Scott is actually taking some financial strain on Wallace: their groceries are crap, their place has mice, they're VERY behind on rent (never paid, to the point that wallace describes the fatc this mont is paid up to be 'impossible'), the way he cajoled scott into going w him to see the landlord heavily hints to the fact he didn't want to go alone and when they do it's literally the only time in the books youi see wallace looking uncomfortable/worried about something. it's also around this time Wallace starts to seem a bit more done with scott's attitude and to bring getting a job up more often.

I LOVE when people actually interact with my stuff. Thank you and thanks for the praise. So to respond properly in order 1) Nice catch I forgot to comment on. As for my theory now you’ve pointed it out: He simply did it because he either didn’t realize the implications.. or hadn’t thought that far ahead. While it does genuinley feel like the “Scott represses how much of a douchebag he is hence why he’s so stunted”, was always a thing and volume 2′s where it really crystalized, from Stephen being kinda nonchalant about a seemingly one sided (though still MOSTLY one sided) breakup, to eveyr bit of Scott’s post knives behavior, to Kim’s reactions to scott and to talk of envy. It’s clear this twist was in his head.. but I genuinely DON’T think the Gideon part of it where he played with Scott’s head a bit to make this issue WORSE, was there yet. As shown by hte movie O’Malley went through a few diffrent versions of the finale, and gideon’s relationship with ramona is left REALLY vauge for the entire series, and even in the end we only get a part of it. Even Laurence was originally supposed to be vastly diffrent. So I could buy he MIGHT of put gideon in there simply to possibly use that as a story seed and just.. decided against it and never explained that bit. Simon apparently just looks like gideon I guess.

2) It’s something I missed and MIGHT of picked up when I got to volume 4.. but I genuinely thank you for pointing that out and will credit you in that one as it’s something worth digging into. And yeah.. your right. I genuinely think Wallace HAD no issue with taking care of Scott before the fourth volume. His friend was deeply hurting after Envy, had nowhere else to go with his parents in Europe, and needed him. So eating a bit cheaper for their at home meals, dealing with mice and dodging the rent was worth it. It’s just by volume 4.. he’s been in a healthy-ish relationship for three months, he’s happy, he got something resembling closure with envy, and he’s finally free of her.. and he’s still sleeping in his bed, eating his food and shows no desire to work past that. It’s understandable he’d get frustrated and want Scott to contribute now he’s okay enough he can again and I think that’s the reason he started pressuring him. I think he simply turned it up after the rent thing not because he assuemd they’d be living together.. but because he knew they wouldn’t. He knew he’d have to leave his friend behind and move in with mobile.. granted he handled it like a dick, but wallace does that sometimes. But point is he knew he could probably move in with his boyfriend and thus pushed scott to move in with his so he wouldn’t have to squat on Stephen or Kim’s couch, where he’d hav ea week AT BEST before being out on the street. Or on the couch he didn’t do the first time THEN the street. And knowing Scott.. yeah he knew that wasn’t likely. He was more fed up with him than usual true, but like with forcing him to break up with Knives, he was on a timer. He’s noticably more forceful when the issue is pressing. IN volume 3, getting to that later today but re read it early so I could condesnse stuff easier, he’s noticably WAY more firm on making sure scott see’s it’s over with envy. And was just as firm about Knives and getting a job. Also while I do think Scott’s the main reason he didn’t pay rent... I do think, in credit to O’Malley, it’s pretty clear it’s NOT just Scott. He’s the large reason for it as he’s not pulling his weight.. but Wallace still refused to pay rent in the months where Scott was in a better place and he could’ve pushed him sooner, drinks QUITE A BIT, and even cheep liquor costs money and like Scott i’m a teatotler and even I know i’ts pretty expensive, and is willing to splurge on HIMSELF when buying groceries. So it’s clear that part of it is just, like many 20 somethings including myself at his age jus ta few years ago.. Wallace just isn’t the best with money and scott just exasrevated that. And he probably woudln’t be AS angry.. but Scott reallyd osen’t get how bad things are or chooses to ignore it, hence him actuallyg etting mad at him. It was the same with Knives. While Wallace is the most tolerant of his bullshit.. he still wont’ take it when the toilet breaks and will call scott on it. I just didn’t notice the finaicals were the reason before because of the other one, but they can’t have helped and Scott is utterly oblivous to it as he is most of the problems in his life. I’ts only as he grows thanks to Ramona and other stuff that he finally starts to actually empathize better. But.. more on that as we go naturally.

Can you think in both metric and imperial? Not even a little.

What time is it where you are now? 5:20pm (EST) and I have just gotten home, put on my pajamas, and gotten in bed. In case I didn’t already make it clear I’m on the old end of the spectrum.

Do you use AM/PM or 24 hour clock? AM/PM, the 24 hour clock kind of confuses me and I always end up having to count out from noon to figure out what time it is.

Are you usually early or late? I tend to be a little early or exactly on time. This is because I’ve had so many jobs where the person working before me can’t leave until I get there to relieve them, so I’ve just gotten in the habit of making sure no one has to stay late because of me.

Favourite band: The other day it was Imagine Dragons, today it’s Boyce Avenue.

What is your favourite unusual genre of music to listen to? Top 40 stuff, and also covers.

Last movie I saw: I don’t think I’ve watched a movie since I rewatched Thor Ragnarok the other day.

Last TV show I watched: I finally finished season 4 of Mr. Selfridge! @lookforastar. Ugh, those last couple were tear-jerkers tbh, but Jeremy Piven really won me over in the end.

Did you last read a book or fan fic? Fan fic. I’m in the middle of Dog in the Heart right now (I had to stop for awhile bc the feels were getting to me, but I’ll finish it this weekend probably).

What sort of fan fic do you like to read? I love slow-burn stuff, a lot of angst and drama, some whump, and I’m really getting into Thorki human AUs right now, which has opened up a TON of fics that I’ve passed right by before. Plus a happy ending!

What do I post on this blog? Loki, mostly. Some Tom Hiddleston, and occasionally just some random stuff that catches my fancy (or is hilarious).

If you could live in another country which one would it be? Greece, because it’s beautiful; the south of France, for the same reason; Norway, or Sweden, or one of those countries that has universal healthcare and gun control and isn’t at war over oil and basically seems like a utopia compared to the US.

Do you consider yourself adventurous? No, I’m pretty boring.

What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue? Rock-climbing. I LOVE indoor rock-climbing (and I’d probably like outdoor rock-climbing but I’ve never tried it) and I used to go all the time when I lived in Boston bc there was a gym close by, but here in Florida, the closest one is like a two hour drive, and the day passes are kind of expensive (it’s cheaper to buy an unlimited pass, in the long run, but I don’t have the time or money to justify getting one of those passes.) But if time and money weren’t an issue, I’d drive every weekend and stay in a hotel or something and just get lost in rock-climbing for two and a half days every week. Living the dream.

What would be your first question after waking up from being cryogenically frozen for 100 years? Dear lord, who made the decision to cryo-freeze me and are they still alive so I can kill them and then myself? I don’t want anything to do with the dumpster-fire that the world is now and will likely be a hundred years from now, and I don’t plan on having children, so I won’t have any descendants to worry about. Just let me die in peace, please.

What superpower would you like to have? Shapeshifting, but also I really want superhuman strength so that being abducted and murdered can be one thing I can cross off the “things to worry about in general” list.

Back in Japan!

Winter break felt extremely short, and bc of bad weather limiting what I could do and a lack of being able to drive (my car is on a suspended, cheaper insurance bc I don't drive it) made things more complicated.

I got really lucky with my flight back arriving just early enough that I barely caught a skyliner, to catch the shink back to Aomori about 2hrs earlier than I'd expected, too 😌

Rn I'm next to this high school or college kid who's writing a paper in English with the help of Wikipedia and Google Translate as he goes. He keeps kinda looking over like he wants me help but is too shy to ask lol

Meanwhile, I'm rambling rn bc I'm exhausted from no sleep and a migraine that makes every smell feel gross and this one spot in my head that feels like there's an icepick stuck in it...

August 5 and 6, 2022

Ingvar and I were going to London! We were so excited! We were heading to visit his good friend, Zach, who was going to film school and living in London.

I spent Friday morning and afternoon packing and getting everything organized for our trip. I had helped Ingvar pack the night before, because he was actually in the office that day! He was able to get off work early, so he was home by 3:30. Grandma Sue and Grandpa Bill were actually taking us to the airport, because we were flying out of Vancouver, BC! We had found a cheaper flight from there, compared to Seattle, so we thought why not! I had never flown through Vancouver before.

Sue and Bill picked us up, and we all headed for the Peach Arch border in Blaine. We had budgeted a few hours of time for traffic and the border wait, but for the first time in my life, we didn’t have to wait at the border! It was crazy, we just drove right up to a customs agent. Sue and I had each filled out an ArriveCAN application for each couple, so the agent pulled that up, asked us a few questions, and we were on our way! I’m really glad we didn’t have a border wait, because there actually was a lot of traffic heading into Vancouver. But, Bill did a good job navigating us to the airport, where they dropped Ingvar and I off, to begin our adventure!

We had plenty of time to go through security. They made me rearrange all my liquids/toiletries, which was a little frustrating, but then we were all clear. We made sure we knew where the gate was, then heading to a lounge, which I had access to from my credit card. Our flight was at 8pm, so we hung out and had a few drinks and some dinner in the lounge. I had some really yummy noodles! Our flight was actually delayed about 45 minutes, but that’s not too bad.

The flight from Vancouver to London was about 9 hours. We had to wear masks, which we kind of forgot about, since the US had lifted that requirement. Ingvar and I each had travel pillows, but we were on a larger plane, with two aisles, so we didn’t have a window to lean on, we had a middle seat and aisle. I was pretty uncomfortable most of the flight. Ingvar did get to sleep a little, though. Air Canada fed us some dinner a few hours into the flight, of pasta and salad. We spent the flight listening to music, trying to sleep, and I blogged a bit from some of my previous trips.

Because of the time change, we landed in London’s Heathrow airport around 2pm, on August 6. We were pooped! But, we had a plan. We went through customs, then found our way to the Underground (subway). I had found my Oyster card (their transportation system) from 2014, when I was in London with Haley! So, we put some money on that, and got Ingvar his own. I had coordinated with Zach about where we would meet, so we took the route that he recommended, to an area of London called Ealing, where he lived. We arrived at the Ealing Broadway station, made our way to the street level, and Zach was waiting for us! Perfect timing!

It was around 4pm, and we were pretty tired, but decided to stay up and have an early night, instead of taking a nap. Zach helped us with our things and got us on a bus, which we took for about 10 minutes, to his apartment. He lived in an area called Pitzhanger. He lived on the third level of a row apartment, with two other guys. One of those guys was out of town, and was nice enough to let Ingvar and I stay in his room. Zach’s other roommate had a friend staying with them too, so there were five of us in the apartment. It was definitely a college boy’s apartment—the bathroom was pretty gross and they didn’t have many towels, but it was free! So thanks, Zach!

Ingvar and I dropped off our stuff in our room, changed, and then Zach took us to a neighborhood cafe that he likes, called Oscar’s. We both had some really yummy iced mochas and then decided to walk around the area, it was a really beautiful day.

We spent a while catching up while walking around Ealing. Zach and Ingvar had been friends since elementary school! The boys got some falafel at a stand, we saw the Gordon Ramsey restaurant we would be eating at on Monday, and some nice churches and buildings. We ended our Ealing tour at a local Irish pub, the Shanakee. We had a few beers there and hung out with some soccer on the TVs (excuse me, football, hahah). Each beer in England comes in its own glass, which is cool but sounds like a pain for the bartender.

Around 9, we took the bus back to Zach’s apartment. We decided we needed some dinner, so we all shared some fish and chips from a shop near Zach’s. We brought it up to Zach’s and laid it out on the table, with lots of napkins and ate our fill. The meal was yummy, but pretty greasy. I was really tired so I washed my face and brushed my teeth, then called it a night. Ingvar and Zach stayed up for a bit chatting, but I was out like a light. We were both so happy to be in London! :]

I'm not trying to FBI up the town but since the last potential I saw an @fbi-swiftunit set up from the 1990s call out if that's actually where I was which is where it felt actual fun when the shit didnt actually happen via to Tumblr I'm not trying to creep in the vibe but it's like people who seem like inside boredom dwellers who get the meal and leave or sit in a pod so it feels like a happy meal not a rushed meal to eat.

If you call it out do the the boredom people who guad shop for time fun after work sometimes working from home if the people wanted cars a lot or were super nice about it not being how people say customer service is with no creeps id run to urban outfitters after and then go home and go inside come out? At that point it's like fun time just fun time i decided on because the app pinged me in my last like 30 minutes of work with a deal or a full price new style that was only full price not that expensive for how not creepy or buying cars people were.

Early in the brand ambassadorship with the other brand shopping extras it became cool because then id build app points that the style of the brand ambassadorship even though i was a no coder encoraged me to redownload and catch up with. Because the apps have the mystery rewards for suprise with one item in the store when you check out and the point accounts for Urban Outfitters tells you what you can win that month or the next month roll over items fir like 6 months if you save money like that but one item honestly counts for their rewards. The people who don't want a friend and don't want a friend also. But are out taking up space eating and inside dwell and guad shop. Do they go out and just sit and eat more at the place when the creep vibe is down? Those dimensions of American populations

This is when apps started seeming really cool again outside of just fitness apps again. I had stopped sports and found a cool discount Pokémon go feel with the stored around and my brand making me buy less. I felt rich with experience. And at how NOT creepy it would be if I just ran out alone for the quick shop made one item feel rich status wise in my own head.

People went through that app hate phase but this shit was cool with a bunk brand but it was a self expirament type thing so I only hurt myself.

But the app itself felt like Pokémon go which was cool. That was cool. The exporament it gave knowing the place sucked for a moment in the media for what they produced shortly BUT AT THE TIME THEY PR RECOVERED WITH SO MANY NEW WAVE TYPE MEDIA COVERAGE RAPPERS CLOTHING DESIGNS ON THE MENS SIDE BUT THE WOMENS APP MADE THAT SIDE CHEAPER NIT LIKE 80 BUCKS FOR A SHIRT.

In my mind I think the apps aren't that cool is just a phase at this point. Im trying time planning self apps for fun.

This was when i was at alabama they did the gucci sweater and lent state thing pretty close back to back until 2015 removal from brand following online or in the media slightly after the idea of drinking starting wasnt fun ai I'd pay attention to those things and people hated the blog only fashion even and by that point as I had stopped drinking the Kent State shit that they pulled with the sweater. Which who knows with that that event actually was about... people looked it up on the internet as an event from the backlash. I was ready by 2015 removal to give the store in person a check because that was kind of a not a direct hate possibly in my mind it couldve been an exhausted person hitting social justice button too hard when they ran it as a production item shortly.

Plus now I have money for not sale racks plus the app notification timing is so good if I'm having a good work day. Even of it's customer service, I can also still not like the store bc they did that Kent State shit. Then if people are being nice at my job and only buying cars the app gives me savings even though I can still social justice the brand on my body and claim they had to app notify me to be there.

While I was on my shift so then I'd be like God these notifications actually rock. No joke and this might actually be nutty but then the app savings work because you have a job and the app. Then you have like before class to like just right after work random spends from those places for just fun time.

Then 2016 was when the notifications actually rocked. Before trump we had the app notifications actually rocking but being nice to my brand Ambassador brand I would talk about. Before trump.

Then we hit trump and the sale thing happened. Then I was trying the brands the Texas girls said were better than Gap type style cuts or buying those at Gap for the those cuts or express or I STARTED GETTING BACK INTO TILLYS.

I had not seen a Tillys storefront. I was like saying I found a tillys store front it's like pac sun another store front and they like each other. Then the tillys people started telling me when they got brand in or new wave brands sale racks at their store stock.

So then it does become hours at store fronts again. Where you get a Starbucks after because you ended up looking at so many clothes. But off Instagram it's possible without the people stalking your shop. That's a cool feature then you can try on the rack styles or just funny things.

Then they opened Heavenly Couture on the drag and it was kind of like Manjus products again. Which were quirky but cool and I could just be alone actually looking at clothes again not getting trafficked. But then it would take hours sometimes I'd end up planning places to go and work at the Starbucks in the mall then shop again but me going alone with the job time funneled it for that to be what I saw as my college fun time. Sometimes I would get to spending like a lot and feeling like a good saver money girl, then I would remember the Four Athletics.

Then the way it ends up you realize you can wrap it all up into the fact that you had a main job. And that at the store you also didn't buy as much as you thought you could when you see the Tillys prices and then you get less even though your job affords more because of Four Athletics.

Now it's 2016 and you've realized youre looking at the materials further where storefronts aren't bad the brands to them in the Four Athletics materials skate brands are still trying and werent the brands doing the mall shit... but you spend less because they say less waste but products you use.

Then it becomes a little fashion high five from the e-commerce brands. To brands you know weren't the brands doing the mall shit with how they tell you to look at products at the store. Then you still save money shopping.

And you've also found Tillys again. It looks like a skate park entry way and then because it does you remember skate is anti rape as a sport pillar if you join a team you have to repeat it out loud in the sport by lines. But its all wrapped up in the tillys wall set up how it looks like the check in area or aide pro shop of that parks brand but its a tillys. Then it's a big e-commerce high five from four Athletics that day for the actual college times.

Without having to be like accepting abuse they said "if you don't want to be trafficked you should ignore abuse"

Then that was my college fun time when they say that UT stuff about it being liberal and a horrible time when I was there in news headlines but I could do this alone stuff kind of thinking about my Ambassador brand but not being too creepy pushy on the production style at the mall.

Then you realize these are actually the college times.

Then the today show got all scandely I just found out I had a dad things and that shit scares me because like George w Bush like dads never scare me so those news stories scare me. Then I started trying cool art things out with that aide of life but cool art things. Art things I would read about and the reading thing was also anti trafficking sometimes. Then I could say Four Athletics at the events. Go through the exhibit thinking it was cool that they put that in the lingo thing of it reading it. And them JJ started having to read lingo art titles that said anti trafficking at events I would beg to go to.

Then getting to these art events was a relief then I felt relieved having the time there and getting there from pointing out and yelling at others being jj to go to them but already being bougie for my food.

And then one full in n out meal makes me tired again celibately. With no bodies around you're trying to boxy away from or make happy

Then maybe college will be the good ole days.

Once you think about the brands.

And the brand ambassadorship might work for a little safety with none of that convo around at you or bar convi that gets sudden flippy and financial savings self learning even if you do it off gram. Plus the sobriety shopping without it. Then you spend more. This is where I am during the Trump transfer

Then since this is where I am during the transfer but u have heard some good convo on campus that seems not trumpy at all or what people are saying it could become and its happiness in the stores alone. Then maybe I'll still not do theyell thing about anything snd not get the crazy accusal for how hard I felt like i was trying to not and actually scream at Jj direct and report to not police. But then also jot feel like my college experience was a waste or no learn outside of learning time for fun learning. Then with your good friends out times where it felt safety monitores getting in your bed alone you also have the fun cool trying a store app for real and checking it and stuff.

Then within being with JJ I could tell people I didn't like him straight up to them. If he wasn't letting me leave and was crying and saying I was worthless if I left. Then I still had college times.

That were how I expected college learning to be actually ignoring him in my reality sphere at how far into this app I got alone first. Because it would be a phone screen notification and my work was in my computer I'd be sweating at work to see what the app full message said unsuited while working but it was from an app at how fun the app notification from that brand were getting for a loyalty program with no contest.

Then to further separate from Jj, I could tell my friends this apps quests I had gotten into with them and this expensive brand becomes a fun quest for expenses. And then it's JUST fun. Because I had solely Pokémon go friends in it fir the Pokémon go I could still not miss them and this app was like a Pokémon gonextension pack. With further nostalgia packs to JUST NOT at the news if your scared of getting physically beat for saying a social justice word.

But your still happy because this is a part of college that I remember more as a whole of it made me feel like my university level with the outlets I was using and thought processes. Even though they said you would have to ignore the abuse you're still getting not your major extras.

With kind a thought process around stuff that you actually buy that even if a sub culture or genre type thing, you kind of can shop with it in your head from the other brands with store brands.

Then wow you did get the college extras but I just thought if it as a self fun project to where my fun college times still seemed fun and tbh was kind of mindless about the notification program because it would pop up on my phone with new styles or a flash store sale or something with dot dot dots. Then it's just like a fun work game.

The best Balkan.

For the last couple of years, I’ve been hearing and seeing incredible things about Slovenia. Since we didn’t have time to add it to our Balkans trip itinerary, I figured I would claim my last week of holidays and spend an entire week hiking, swimming, and exploring the ‘green’ country of the Balkans. Originally I was planning on leaving alone, but when I found out that my friend Dave was going to be travelling at the same time, I suggested he join me for Slovenia, and he gladly accepted.

After a night in Venice, we headed to the capital city of Slovenia, Ljubljana, where we spent 2 days learning some history, eating some good food, and exploring the city on bike and foot. After our severely delayed bus ride, we checked-in to our hostel before grabbing some typical Slovenian sausages for lunch. We then walked up to the Ljubljana Castle, where we spent some time exploring the various rooms, and walking up to the tower/lookout, where we got stuck in an agressive rain/hail storm. The rain thankfully subsided intime for us to end the day off on a free walking tour, before grabbing dinner along the river, and later on, participating in a pub-crawl.

The following day was spent exploring Ljubljana by bike, visiting a few museums, hanging out at a park, and getting rooftop drinks at sunset. After grabbing dinner, we went for a little walk around town before having an early night in.

The next morning we hopped on a short bus ride to Bled, a beautiful, picturesque lake, famous for its turquoise water and (man-made) island in the middle. Ever since I saw a photo of the place years ago, I’ve been determined to one day visit. And boy was it even more beautiful in person. The forecast had said clouds and thunderstorms, but the sun pulled through and we were able to spend all our time outside, hiking, swimming, and tanning. The lake is about 6km in circumference so we spent our first day walking all the way around the lake, as well as visiting two viewpoints, one at Bled Castle, and the other at the end of a 45-minute hike.

Our second day was spent at Lake Bohinj, another beautiful, much bigger lake, that actually reminded me a lot of BC. We decided to rent an electric scooter for the day, to have more flexibility in regards to time, but this decision ended up backfiring when our scooter stopped working right as we got to the top of a lookout point. I figured if we let it rest for a little bit, the engine would cool down and eventually start-up again, but after hanging out and grabbing some food at the top of the mountain/lookout point, nothing. Since we were at the top of a mountain, we were able to make it back into town mostly by riding in neutral all the way down, but once the road flattened out we ended up walking for a while, stopping people along the way to ask for help, all of which could not get the bike to start either. We eventually found a tourism office, where we asked a young Slovenian guy if he could help us. When him and 2 of his friends couldn’t figure out how to fix the scooter (even after calling the shop owner), they decided to put it in the back of a van, and drive us back to Bled. The shop owner ended up paying them for gas/their time, which we were so relieved about! We thanked them a million times, gave them all big hugs, and were (finally) on our way back to our hostel.

After a perfect morning paddle boarding on the lake, we caught a bus back to Ljubljana, where we began our journey by train, to visit some of the coastal towns of Slovenia. To cut our journey in half, we decided to make a stop at the famous Skocjan Cave. We caught a free shuttle bus from the train station to the cave, went on a guided tour, and found out that there were no shuttle busses running to bring us back to the train station, where we were to catch our train to the coast. What a lovely situation to be in, stranded in the middle of Slovenia, with no ride to the train station, and the last train of the day leaving in 20 minutes. We desperately asked a worker for advice, who she suggested we walk, until she realized we wouldn’t get there in time. She then decided to call her mom to see if she could give us a ride on their way home (even though it was apparently forbidden for her as an employee to offer rides to customers/travellers). Thank God for kind people! We arrived at the train station right in time to catch the last train to Koper - what a relief. After arriving, we checked-in to our hostel, grabbed dinner, and wandered around town a bit, before heading to bed.

The next morning we woke up bright and early, spent some time walking around the town of Koper, before renting an electric scooter and driving along the coastline, stopping first in the town of Izola for a nice walk and ocean-side cocktail, and then Piran, where we stopped for lunch, and visited a few tourist attractions. We made sure to check that the road was more or less flat so that we wouldn’t have a repeat of our last scooter rental experience. It ended up going very smoothly, and we got back to Koper in the late afternoon, in time to grab a sunset beer, before dinner and another early night in.

After splitting up with Dave, I had 3 days to spare before my flight home from Venice (since the roundtrip flight from Paris was much cheaper than the one to Ljubljana), so I decided to make my way up the Istrian Peninsula by bus, stopping to explore a few cities along the way, since they’re all quite close to each other and small enough to explore in a day. First up was Rovinj, a picturesque town known as ‘little Venice’ built on a rocky spur. I locked up my bag at the bus station and spent the majority of the day wandering around town aimlessly, getting lost in the narrow streets, and eventually following the coastline to the beach, where I spent some time people watching and enjoying the sweet sound of the ocean.

In the late afternoon, I made my way back to the bus station to pick up my things and catch a bus to Pula. I was so shocked by the amount of British tourists in both Rovinj and Pula, I almost forgot I was in Croatia! After checking into my hostel, I got dinner and wandered around the city center with a Canadian guy from my hostel dorm. The following day we explored more of the city, visiting an old castle as well as the famous Pula Arena, the only remaining Roman amphitheatre to have four side towers and the most well preserved monument in Croatia. In the afternoon we decided to head to the beach, where we spent a few hours taking it easy, reading, and enjoying the sun. On our way back to the hostel we picked up groceries to make our own dinner, since the food options all seemed to be very overpriced, and of sub-par quality.

My 6 hours in Trieste the following day were spent walking around the city center, visiting some sights, stopping for coffee a few times, and (obviously) treating myself to a delicious pizza & glass of wine. I felt so bougey sitting at a nice restaurant and getting the most expensive pizza on the menu, until I realized the exact same meal would have costed double the amount in Paris. After taking a brief nap on a bench along the pier, I eventually made my way back to the bus station, where I caught a bus to the Venice airport. I remember it being so incredibly hot this day, I ended up spending so much time just sitting in random shady spots around the city, trying my best to avoid possibly fainting.

Another trip for the books, and a region of the world I highly recommend everyone explore! Slovenia had some of the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen, and the fact that a lot of it reminded me of home was a big plus. If I were to do it again, I probably would have rented a car to have more flexibility while travelling in Slovenia, and I definitely would have skipped Pula altogether.

Hello Again

Yes, it’s been over a year again.

I’m not going to stress myself but I do really want to write more. I feel like when I wrote more consistently, I was happier, overall. Or maybe I’m just really sad right now and have been for a while but it’s all just coming out now. I haven’t really cried like this honestly since maybe when I graduated, which I didn’t think was that bad. A few months earlier I think I cried even more when my “London Boyfriend” broke up with me (IDR if i ever mentioned him before but it’s too irrelevant at this point so). ANYWAY yes there’s a new boy involved too but I’m not sad because of him...I think..but i do think he brought out all of this.. or maybe he’s just the last person I wad with and everything’s finally catching up to me (We’ll talk about him later).

So I’m finally going to Atlanta. But let’s recap the last year first.

(I haven’t read my last post bc I cannot rn) Last year I was still freelancing at NowThis and was planning on leaving to ATL in the spring/summer... but then they offered me a full time job and I took it. I wouldn’t say I regret it because I did learn a lot and saved a good amount of money. But i would say it attributed to this stagnant discontent-ness that I’ve been masking by going on vacations, getting drinks and going out with friends, and talking to Milton. I haven’t fully felt like myself in a while and it sucks because I feel like I’ve personally regressed. Like being abroad, my summer in ATL and I suppose graduating were great high points for me. I was excited, eager, and for the most part fulfilled. Obviously, life wasn’t perfect back then but ever since being back home I feel like I’ve been pretending to be all those things I used to be.. with distractions. But now I’m FINALLY changing things up and doing what I think is best for me.. and I’m scared. It’s not just the fact that I’m leaving all my friends and family behind (which is much bigger than I thought it was), it’s also the fear of failure, of making the wrong choice, of making a good choice for right now but maybe not for the long term. I’m scared. Of being alone, of making mistakes. But I’m also excited (lol 😭) to just go. The sadness really hits when I’m up alone all night, like I literally feel helpless cause I’ve been doing this for too long. But hopefully this will go away once I get down there and I pray they’ll have work for me much sooner rather than later once I’m there. But because I have some family there it shouldn’t be too bad, right? I think I am really excited though, eager to start - yeah it’s the uncertainty too that’s wearing down on me. Once I start that first gig, I know everything will be sweet. I just have to be patient *sigh* but also fill up my time somehow. 🙄

Sooooo I guess I can go into Milton now... yes, that Milton 😂. It’s really crazy because I’m still unsure on how I exactly I feel, but I know I do really care about him. So it started when I went up to cuse for Mayfest weekend. Basically he invited me over to smoke and I was off the molly lmao so I was chattin’ about everything and anything when I was with him. He subtly tried to make moves but I was dismissing them because it’s Milton... and what happened early... But then he kissed me and I liked it and the rest is history... LOLJK but we’ve been talking since (I’ve concluded I only like to guys who don’t live near me bc......). In the beginning it was fun, good sex, and someone nice to talk to and if I’m being honest I never really saw him as someone I’d want to be with seriously, partially for shallow reasons but also we spent like a whole week together and by the end of it I felt like we were an old married couple, like we loved each other but didn’t like each other. And i thought I shouldn’t feel like this with someone I’m not even in a relationship with... but this weekend kinda felt like that again. Like I was cleaning up like I was his wife and he was just watching tv. But this time it felt a little more right, normal? Maybe I keep getting these inklings because they’re tapping into the future? or past? In another dimension?I don’t know, it’s weird. But he really opened up to me more than he has before (which has been a lot!) And I just tried to console him you know, but then I started crying in the middle of the night..... and after he left, I cried when he facetimed me, and I cried some more after I hung up. And I’m tearing up thinking about it now (UGH). But yeah now I really don’t know how to feel about him, since I’m leaving. It’ll probably be like how it was with every other boy, sad for a bit but then I’ll meet someone knew and pretty much forget about them. Or maybe we’ll get married in 10 years, who knows. I want to get a tarot card reading done (lmao that’s a random sidetrack). No but he’s actually really great like from all the boys I’ve talked to, he’s been the most genuine and that’s something I’ve always wanted and whether it’s with me or not, I truly do wish him the best in the future.

And so speaking of this weekend, I had my goodbye party 😂It wasn’t what I pictured it to be like but I still think it was successful. The whole thing went by super quick for me because I was too busy making sure everything was going right: with the decorations, and the food, and DJ, and pictures, and money and wristbands, and just making sure everyone was having a good time. I was def overwhelmed but I think everyone had a good time. I got lit and had fun so that’s all I could ask for (except for it being cheaper ughhhhh but whatever it’s over now, I’m never doing that again until I’m big ballin’ then YES). Turnout could’ve been a little better toooo lol but I think that sums up how many and who really fucks with me so it’s fitting 😌My squadrin got me an amazingggg care package with polaroids, snacks, other things I love, and handwritten letters 😢, which I haven brought myself to read yet. But they are so amazing, literally the best people ever, all things considered, they are the best! And then I spent the next couple nights with Milton, where he gave me a super sweet gift as well! A gopro type of camera, ugh he’s so sweet.

And now the party and party planning is over and there’s nothing left but to leave (and Max & Nat’s Bday party). So I’m here, home alone, sad lmao and i hit my fucked up nail again and now it’s hanging on for dear life and IDK what to do, I’m so upsetttttt lmaooo this would happen to me, Karen put this omen on me smh. ANYWAY I’m glad I decided to write again. I do feel better, just like I did before. I want to continue writing, maybe monthly. And to help me do this I’m going to set monthly goal(s). For January I’ll be lite:

Throw my going away party (done lol)

Drive down to Tio Edwin’s house

Work on my first of many projects in ATL

Why were the Egyptian Pyramids of Giza built?

Nearly 5,000 years ago, Giza became the royal burial ground for Memphis, which was then, the Capital of Egypt. Within 100 years, three successive generations of the ancient Egyptians built the three pyramid complexes to serve as tombs for their kings.

These tombs were built beside the king’s pyramid, which indicates that these people were not by any means slaves. If they were slaves, they would not have been able to build their tombs beside their king’s.

The Egyptian Pyramids are located within the Pyramids complex on the Giza plateau approximately 25km (15 miles) south-west of Downtown Cairo.

I recommend going to the Egyptian Museum first thing in the morning, this was you’ll miss the tour buses which arrive at the Pyramids between 9:30 am – 10:30 am.

Another the benefit of waiting a bit longer is that it will give more time for the haze of pollution to clear up a bit. Yes, Cairo is very polluted, particularly in the mornings.

2. How do I get to the Pyramids?

The Mortuary Temple of Khafre

Giza Pyramid Complex is only about 18 kilometre from Downtown Cairo however, Cairo is a heavily trafficked city. Using the public transportation available in Cairo, there are three different modes of transport you can use to reach the Pyramids.

Taxi

Taking a taxi to the pyramids is by far the easiest option as there is very little effort required on your part. From anywhere in central Cairo, you can flag down a taxi on any main street and ask to go to the ‘Haram’ (this is what the pyramids are locally known as).

The only downside to taking a taxi is that you might get stuck in traffic. On a good run, it will take thirty minutes to reach the entrance to the Giza complex. Worse case scenario it could take closer to an hour if not more. There are three different kinds of taxi services available in Cairo:

Black Taxi – Black taxis are the oldest of the three. Don’t be surprised if they don’t have a meter or air-conditioning. White Taxi – White taxis are the modern version of black taxis complete with a fare meter and air-conditioning. Yellow Taxi – Yellow taxis are the most expensive, professionally serviced and can be pre-booked over the phone.

Tips for taking a taxi:

I always recommend taking a white taxi. Before you get in, make sure you agree on a price and don’t be afraid to bargain hard for a good rate. Expect to pay around 40 LE (Egyptian Pounds) from anywhere in Downtown Cairo.

If you prefer, it is possible to pay extra and have the taxi wait for you until you’ve finished visiting the Giza Pyramids Complex to then take you back to the hotel. While the option is there, keep in mind that the complex is huge and you could easily spend all day there. Plus, you don’t necessarily need to do this as there are plenty of taxis servicing both sides of the complex from the main entrance and exit near the Sphinx. I did, however, choose to pay extra for a taxi to come inside the complex and drive me around. This came in handy when I wanted to go around to the panoramic lookout which is far away.

Uber

Uber is the best, most convenient and still a very cheap option. The best part is that you won’t have to worry about haggling for the best price. Expect to pay around 60LE to the pyramids from central Cairo.

Public Bus

An even cheaper (yes, it’s possible) way to get to the Giza Pyramids from Downtown Cairo is by taking the public bus. The buses are comfortable and some have air-conditioners. Tickets are only 2.50 LE.

If you’re visiting the Egyptian Museum in the morning (which I highly recommend), located on the main road behind the museum are buses 355 and 357 which will take you to the Giza Pyramids complex.

If you’re staying near the Tahrir Square area it’s good to know what these buses also pass through here.

Micro-Buses

Locals, aka Cairenes, take the microbus (pronounced ‘mee-kro-bas’) these small vans are usually crowded, uncomfortable and can only seat 12 passengers.

Since no destinations are signposted, it can be tricky to use them at first. They do, however, then to depart from normal bus stops.

Microbuses are useful for major routes such as reaching the entrance to the pyramids from the Giza metro station.

Micro-Buses will only stop if there is an available seat on board. The fare will vary depending on the distance you need to travel. This can be anywhere from LE2 to LE5 and is paid once you take your seat on board.

Metro

The Cairo Metro, like any metro, gets really crowded during peak hours (7 am to 9 am and 3 pm to 6 pm). Avoid these time by starting your day early and returning after the rush.

Plan your journey by using www.cairometro.gov.eg and clicking on ‘English’ in the top left corner.

Cairo’s Metro Network doesn’t cover the entire city, but for a visitor, it’s perfect as it includes all the major tourist attractions. It’s efficient and very cheap. All single trip fares are LE 2.00 no matter how far you travel. There are four metro stations in central Cairo: Attaba, Md. Naguib, Sadat and Naseer that will take you to the closest station to the Giza Pyramids complex. After a 15-20 minute journey, get off at El-Giza station. From here it’s another 10 km to the pyramid complex entrance.

Exit the station and head down to Al Haram, this is the main road leading to the pyramids. Cross to the other side and catch either bus 900 or 997 or a microbus to the pyramids. All buses will drop you one kilometre from the entrance.

Tips for taking the metro:

Metro stations are clearly marked with a large red ‘M’ in a blue star.

Keep your ticket until you complete your journey, you’ll need it to feed into the turnstile when exiting

The metro opens around 6 am with trains running every 5 minutes until closing at 11.30pm.

Ladies, there are two carriages located in the centre of each train reserved for women only (men will be kicked out). Look for the blue ‘Ladies’ signs on the platform so you know where to wait to get on the right carriage.

Since the roads will be chaotic, the bus driver may forget to tell you when to get off, so it’s a good idea to ask a friendly passenger to alert you just in case.

Tips on getting to the Pyramids of Giza:

Most Egyptians don’t understand the word “Pyramids”, so make sure you learn the Arabic word for them, especially if you’re taking a taxi there. Haram also means. The strict translation of the Arabic word ‘harim’ means (a prohibited place) and is from the verbal root ‘harama’ (prohibited), designated as ‘haram’ (a pyramid). (Source)

There are two entrances to the pyramids complex. One entrance is near the Great Pyramid of Giza, the other is near The Sphinx. You can enter via either, but if you catch a bus, you’ll arrive closer to the Great Pyramid of Giza entrance.

3. How long does it take to get to the Pyramids of Giza?

If you’re travelling by road, the journey can last anywhere between 30-90 minutes. Cairo is a heavily trafficked and congested city so be prepared for severe delays. The best time to leave is either side of rush hour.

If you’re travelling by train then bus/microbus, allow 45 minutes.

4. What are the opening times of the Pyramids of Giza?

The Giza plateau is open 8 am – 4 pm daily. The Giza Pyramids are open 8 am – 4 pm daily (5 pm in summer). The Solar Boat museum is open 9 am – 4 pm daily (5 pm in summer).

5. How much time do you need to visit the Pyramids of Giza?

How much time do you have? Haha No, but seriously, time will fly once you’re inside the complex. I recommend allowing most of the day to explore the entire pyramids complex. I arrived just before 11 am and left right on closing time at 4om and I still didn’t want to leave.

My advice? Soak it up. Don’t rush your time here. Find a quiet spot and enjoy the view. Who knows when you’ll be back to see them again.

6. How much are tickets to the Pyramids of Giza?

Tickets to the Pyramids and Sphinx area costs 120 LE (60LE for students). To go inside the Great Pyramid, it’s an additional 300 LE (150 LE for students).

If you are taking a tripod inside, you’ll need to purchase a tripod ticket for 20 LE. This is standard practice all over Egypt.

7. Can You Go Inside the Pyramids?

Yes, you absolutely can! You can go inside The Great Pyramid of Giza, Khafre’s Pyramid, Menkaure Pyramid, and Mers Ankh Tomb. Included in your ticket is a free visit to the middle pyramid of the three satellite pyramids of the Queen of Cheops.

While most people, including local guides, will try and talk you out of going inside The Great Pyramid of Giza, saying it’s not worth paying 300 LE (USD$16) for, I still recommend going inside. But it all depends on how interested you are in the pyramids.

For me, I had to go inside. After all, I travelled all that way, so why not, right? Located in the core of the pyramid is the King’s Chamber. While there’s nothing to see in the King’s Chamber per se, other than an empty sarcophagus, it’s the experience of walking through the 9 metre (30 ft) high Great Gallery and seeing the inner workings of such an incredible monument.

If you’re not already planning on going, I highly recommend going to the Egyptian Museum to see the mummies and beautifully decorated tombs. Don’t miss the Royal Mummy Room!

Tips for going inside The Great Pyramid of Giza:

The Great Gallery inside the Great Pyramid of Giza is very narrow and you may feel claustrophobic. Reconsider going inside if you suffer from claustrophobia.

Allow 30-40 minutes to complete your visit inside The Great Pyramid of Giza.

Cameras, including phones, aren’t allowed inside. You can leave your items at the entrance with the guards. They will give you a ticket in exchange. Don’t lose it! You’ll need it to collect your belongings afterwards.

It’s super humid inside the King’s Chamber, so take some tissues with you to mop up that forehead.

8. Camel and Horse Rides

As I mentioned in my things to know about Egypt guide, the camels and horses at the pyramids are malnourished and badly treated, so it’s up to you if you choose to go on a ride anyway.

If you do decide to take a camel ride, make sure you’re not hassled into paying more than the fair price. In order to crack down on scamming tourist, signs have now been put up showing set prices for camel rides which are 50 Egyptian Pounds for 30 minutes.

9. What should I wear when visiting the Pyramids of Giza?

Also in my Egypt travel tips guide, I explain how you can pretty much wear anything you like in tourist areas such as the pyramids. However, you might find it more comfortable to wear breathable material like linen so you don’t have to put sunscreen all over your body. These linen pants are a great option (these are cute too) or a maxi-dress if you prefer.

Definitely wear a hat. Your head will catch the sun and tender for a few days afterwards.

Perhaps the most important item will be your footwear. You’ll be walking a lot, mainly through sand and dirt, so wear comfortable and breathable closed-toe shoes.

10. What should I pack when visiting the Pyramids of Giza?

It’s can get really hot whilst visit the Pyramids complex. It’s dry, dusty and since it’s a dry heat, it won’t be as obvious how much fluid you’re losing through sweat. I highly recommend taking three litres of water per person and keeping some in a thermal bottle to keep it cool and drink later in the day.

Take sunscreen and apply it before you go out in the sun. Wear sunglasses, a hat and take an umbrella just in case you need some shade; because there is none!

11. Can you buy food inside the Giza Pyramid Complex?

There is only one (but very good) place to eat in inside the Giza Pyramid complex. This outdoor buffet restaurant is located right near the Sphinx with excellent views. From here you can enjoy a delicious meal in the shade under the watchful eye of the Sphinx.

Before you leave, make sure you order an ice-cream from the ice-cream stand next to the buffet. It might take some time to prepare your order, but it’s totally worth it. Choose your flavour and toppings and watch as the proud ice-cream man whips up the best ice-cream you’ll have on your trip!

If you still can’t get enough of the pyramids, after you leave the Pyramids complex, head to the top floor of the Pizza Hut. Located just outside the pyramids complex directly in front of the Sphinx and watch the sunset over a pizza.

12. Sound and Light Show at the Pyramids

Go back in time and see the history of the Ancient Egyptians and the Pyramids in the daily Sound and Light show located near the Sphinx. Booking a ticket is essential, however, you can also watch the show for free if you stay at a nearby hotel with a rooftop terrace such as Pyramids View Inn Bed & Breakfast or Panorama Pyramids Inn.

The Sound and Light Show runs at 7 pm, 8 pm and 9 pm during the winter and 2.5 hours later during summer.

13. Solar Boat Museum

Don’t forget to see the boat! What boat I hear you ask? Oh, just the boat that was buried at the foot of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

It’s unclear if it was used to carry the body of Khufu from Memphis to his tomb, (markings suggest it had been sailed before) and was buried for the pharaohs own journey across the heavens or it was buried for the sun-god himself.

Either way, this impressive full-size ancient Egyptian boat took 14 years for experts to put its 1,200 pieces together.

14. Bonus tips for visiting the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt

Climbing the Pyramids – Once upon a time you could climb the pyramids, however, this is no longer the case. But then again, it also depends on who’s working that day. A guard let me climb up just long enough to take the photo above, but that was it. It any case, it’s best to ask.

Toilets – There are toilets near the Sphinx and at the entrance to the pyramids complex before going through security.

Panoramic Viewpoint – There is a panoramic viewpoint you can go to but it’s a bit far to walk in the heat so you may want to get a lift there. Either take your taxi which you paid extra for (like I did) or take a horse or camel. This viewpoint is where all the tourist buses stop, so it gets busy. While it’s a nice spot, it’s not the best perspective of the pyramids. To get a more iconic shot as seen in this photo, you’ll need to walk out into the dunes for about 15 minutes. Hardly anyone does this so ita ’s nice opportunity to just take it all in without being interrupted.

As a young driver auto insurance is way to expensive. Since I drive a Mercedes most quote me at thousands of dollars a year. More than what I can afford. How does arbitration work between 2 car insurance companies?

I was in a car accident about a month ago. My car insurance agreed that the accident was 100% not my fault. The other car insurance company is trying to say that it was 50% my fault( which is totally ridiculous because the other driver was cited by police for failure to yield). Today i got a phone call from my car insurance company saying that my claim is now going to arbitration. What can i expect to happen next? What can I do to prepare my self? Churchill Car Insurance Problem?

Had accident which was my fault in Nov 08, hit a van in rear that stopped suddenly going through a roundabout (less than 5mph) and his trailer hitch ball went into my radiator and damaged the hood, grill and radiator. Car was 1996 Honda in very reasonable condition, MOT'd and all in good service despite its 125,000 mileage, new tyres, exhaust, battery, and clean throughout. Had fully comprehensive insurance with 50 deductable, loaner car and legal support so paid to be protected. When car was collected from accident, collecting garage said at that time that due to the mileage my car would not be repaired. However it took 5 to 6 weeks for the insurance examiner to determine that my car was beyond repair, so I did without a car all that time. Despite repeated phone calls to them, they never called me back as their examiner was on holiday. Then when we finally agree that a price of 500 for my car in January 08 and that took some haggling, the cheque never and so I started chasing them down in early February. I am then informed that I did not disclose a speeding violation on my application and they would have to listen to the tapes of my applying to verify this. Again this took several weeks, and I again had to pursue them for an answer to which they then said I had applied on the internet so no record of a phone conversation. The internet application was misleading, asking for what I believed was 3 years worth of offenses. I've only ever had 2 speeding offenses in my entire life - both speed cameras, just over the limit. The first was at 6 a.m. and I passed a bus pulling over to stop and as I passed it got flashed. The second on the day I found my dad had days to live and I was rushing to catch a flight, and as in both instances was doing 42 mph in a 30 mph zone for a very short period. Nonetheless, I was speeding and paid my fines. I wrote to the insurance company and apologised for not telling them of the other speeding ticket from 4 years and 9 months earlier as I forgot about it. But I admitted it, and apologised in writing. Then then came back to me saying that there would be additional premium to pay before I would get paid for my car. Well, its October 08, and I finally got a letter from the insurers saying they are not paying me as I failed to pay the additional premium requested and they were not going to renew my policy. I have never been asked even after repeated letters to them how much the additional premium was, and what I should do. No replies. I have asked for my car back which they agreed to pay for, and now they state there is nothing they can do, and it is their final decision. I went to the financial ombudsman and unbelieveably DID NOT get a reply from them. I've even spoken to one of their survey staff who tells me that they are incredibly busy and it was probably put aside and not dealt with. I'm at a total loss as to where I stand and how to pursue this without spending more than the accident and car was worth. I've written to their data protection officer and obtained copies of all documentation pertaining to this, so by their records can verify all this information quite clearly. Finally, I maintained my cool with them at all times. Never once did I raise my voice or become unprofessional with them. My questions are: 1. Can I legally request my car back as it has never been paid for? 2. Were they taking money for policy on a car they knew that through mileage alone, they would never pay for loaner car, or to have repaired? 3. This has meant over 30 letters and more phone calls than that to deal with, and rarely do they call you back or reply at all. Can I claim for this time and distress? 4. Am I totally wasting my time? Today I got pulled over for the first time for running a red light , when the officer pulled me over, as he was getting off his bike I took my seatbelt off (I know, now that I think of it, it was such a stupid thing to do, but it was my first time being pulled over and I didnt know how to react). There was a guy in an Audi pulling into a parking spot in reverse in front of me and he was taking half of the lane that I was on.. This parking spot happens to be 10 ft away from the set of lights. In my mind I was thinking, I'm gonna go to the left side to let this guy go in, and while that was happening I was worried about the tourists that like to jaywalk and cross the road inbetween cars... So I go to the left and the left and gas it a little bit, I was going like 10 mph as I was taking off, and the light turns yellow, I cross the crosswalk, then the light turns red and I drive under the set of lights.. These 2 bike cops came immediately after me... So long story short, it was my first time being pulled over, I took the seatbelts off, and I ran the red light because there was a guy pulling into a parking stop right in front of me and I was too worried looking around afraid I was going to hit a jaywalking tourists. I know people always think they're right, but I honestly think I didn't do anything wrong here. I got a $25 seat belt fine and a warning for running the red light, which is complete BS. I know it's a warning but I don't want it on my record at all, how can I appeal, any tips? My Gf was driving on the freeway going home from school. While driving about 10 car lengths ahead she saw that car were swerving out of the way. There was a stalled car in the number 2 lane. She had enough time to slow down and change to the number 1 lane without any incident when she was suddenly rear ended on her back right bumper. That force sent her into the ceneter median aand hit her front driver side hard enough that it spun her around and faced the opposite direction (facing traffic). Long story short she has severe front and back end damage on a Brand New 2008 Civic that she is leasing. After speaking with the appraiser of the he mentioned that it is likely a totaled loss. Ahe has full coverage insurance with AAA but don't think that she has GAp insurance. How is this going to affect her lease that she just entered a month ago. She was not at fault and the accident report hasn't been finalized. Will this affcet her in getting a new car and insurance?

Progressive auto insurance problem !?

I need an opinion on what should i do in this case. 3 weeks ago , as I was driving home , on the freeway , from the truck in front of me fell big peace of ice and hit my car from underneath. Less than 1 minute later i noticed blue smoke behind , luckily there was and exit with gas station right there. By the time i pulled up to the gas station car was barely moving. After staying parked for 20 min , it leaked oil and tranny fluid . I called towing , had them pick the car up , called progressive made the claim. All of that happened in WI near Milwaukee , before i used to leave in Chicago , so I never dealt with progressive from WI. After couple days adjuster came out and gave shop 1100$ to start the repairs , shop diagnosed everything and came to a conclusion that its the transmission leaking because of the damage inside. Adjuster was extremely slow to give shop any kind of approvals to do anything , So after 3 weeks they finally allowed them to take transmission apart , another adjuster came out took pictures , then shop owner want around , called me and said that he will call me next day. Next day shop owner calls me asking if I heard anything from progressive ? I call that guy back , but he went on vacation. Call my first adjuster , she says that the guy who went on vacation concluded that it wasn't related to impact , so they wont pay for anything and I owe 500 for taking down transmission. I called shop owner right away asking if its possible , not being related to impact , he says of course not , otherwise your car wouldn't break after impact. He also said some technical explanation what caused it to break , i just don't know what. he also said that no one ever called him and asked him what was the cause if that. I dealt with progressive in Chicago twice , when i lived there , and i had greatest experience ever , but it seems that in Milwaukee , they are playing games , making me pay , and not taking responsibilities. I figured somebody might know what should I do in this case , I just want them to do what they should do , especially when Im paying 200$ a month.""

So to start this stressful story I just purchased a new truck in Louisiana. My guy and I pulled out of the dealership lot and literally about a minute down the road we were hit by a girl in a car who says she didn't see us. Her car was damaged pretty bad but ours has a big dent and a scratch. It's still functional but now the passenger door won't open because of the location where her car contacted ours. So a police officer came and filed a crash report and gave us her information, but says that we have to wait til Friday to be able to get a copy of the crash report. We have full coverage insurance on our truck and our basic warranty.
