here's a comic featuring some of my fantrolls. I've had this idea in mind for so long & I finally got 2 draw it :3

So, I've had a bit of an emotional journey when it came down to getting these trolls uploaded and, uh.I'm sort of in a venty mode, so I'm doing a read more cut just so I don't bother people (TW for Drug Abuse and Suicidal Thoughts mentioned)

It became less of "lol, look at all these trolls I've had over the years, let's sell them" to a bit of a crippling "I did this to cope with what was happening to me and this is the financial repercussions of that"

When I joined the Homestuck fandom, I was 16. A long ago ex-friend had gotten me into it because he was an obsessive fan and I REALLY liked astrology at the time, so obviously what was gonna stop me from getting into this silly little webcomic? (Nepeta my BELOVED! Leo's for life!!!)

I've never really shared this with anyone outside of my CLOSEST of close friends, but I was in a really nasty situation. My parents were on drugs, deeply into it at the time of me joining Homestuck, and were basically nonexistent at that point of my life. They'd disappear for days at a time with no sign of them coming back anytime soon, so, while looking after my little brother, I'd get lost in this fandom and obtaining fantrolls was my own sick little kick

I wasn't creative at the time to really make my own, I'd just use sprite bases and all my own guys were basic as hell, but, when I found out troll adopts were a thing, I was OBSESSED

Some oldies might remember me being EVERYWHERE back in the day on DA under the unusualKitten alias. I was on every single page I could find trying to get at least ONE fantroll that someone had posted newly in the groups. It was amazing! I could drown myself in these guys I was getting and bury myself in art of them so that I could avoid the world that I was stuck in

Honestly, without that "distraction", I probably would've killed myself years ago

It was all I had in a shit world, it even led me making a short-time friend in my final year of high school, but it was fun

And then I grew up

Some things happened that involved me being the fucking savior of my family by dragging them out of that hell with my own two broken hands only for the sake of my brother. My mom got clean, my dad died because he couldn't get clean, I had been working a job in which case they'd have stolen my money almost every time I got it (like THAT was anything new), and we were just sort of stuck in limbo for a long time after that

I was still a part of Homestuck, but I wasn't A part of it anymore, if that makes any sense. Most I done was win a spot in the For Fans By Fans design contest with my Heir's Tears submission (Only 1 or 2 people bought the shirt and, two those people, I FUCKING LOVE YOUUUU, y'all are so cool), but I was pretty much dead in the water

Until I reconnected with my bestest friend

She helped me to regain the love again, as we'd rp a lot with all our different versions of canon characters bc we're maniacs (Which will ALL be featured in MSCOTT once I get back on the ball for writing it!)

And, as I sit here today, looking back on everything that happened 11 years ago, I've realized that things are a lot different now. I'm no longer the heavily traumatized kid I was back then, I have a life outside of the fantrolls I've hoarded over the years

And, yeah, it hurts seeing a lot of these guys go, it feels like a bit of myself is leaving with them, but that's not a part of my life anymore, that was a part of HER life

Don't get me wrong, I STILL love fantrolls and still have a handful of my own that I'll fight ANYONE over, but. I think it's time to let go of a past that I don't really want to be haunted by anymore

(But I hope this explains why I generate a LOT of fantrolls and then suddenly they're being given up as soon as something's done with them, hha, old habits die hard)

Galactik football x Homestuck AU type thing

well, more like me troll-ificating the Snow Kids. I only drew headshots because i couldn't figure out the shirt designs as you'll see

explaining the important HS lore for this AU:

-in HS, there is an alien species called Trolls who live on a planet called Alternia. Alternia is a violent shithole where everyone is seperated with their place in society being decided by their blood color-there are 12 and they're based on zodiac signs

(Lowblood castes,the extinct limebloods who are considered a mutation now due to rarity, midbloods, highbloods and the 2nd highest blood caste is seadweller royalty, and the top blood caste only consisting of the queen),

-and the queen wants to take over as many worlds as possible to add to the empire

°for the purpose of this au, just like the GF novelization claims (it isn't canon but it's better than nothing) that the humans came to the Zaelion Galaxy out of nowhere and settled on Akillian, the same happened here but with a group of trolls. The bitch ass queen isn't a thing anymore(probably got defeated) because the Alternian empire would obviously want to take over the Zaelion Galaxy if she was alive.

°blood color also isn't as important anymore because well...obviously. let's assume that most of the trolls that somehow came to the Zaelion Galaxy were a progressive bunch. There's still a monarchy lead by a queen and vague aristocracy but that's about it.

-in HS depending on which caste they are, the troll may have a power. The bottom 3 lowbloods(rust,bronze and gold) all have psychic abilities, the extinct limebloods had something about them that had the queen wanting them dead, the olivebloods are generally lucky and the higher up you go on the spectrum, you don't have abilities but you do get a resistance to them. Unless you have a mutation that gives you psychic abilities

°this still applies in the AU, however it is not considered a flux. My reasoning for this is that only certain members of the species have it so it doesn't apply. And also some members of the flux society clearly have psychic powers but flux use is illegal sooo? And as well,i consider the flux to be like the bending from Avatar. It's not genetic,spiritual or physical but some secret 4th thing. The GF novelization even states that no one knows where flux comes from so they still get the breath of Akillian! (but not for long because WHOOPS there goes the glaciation!)

-in HS on Alternia, there are no adults. The baby grubs (because yes the trolls sre insects) are taken care of by animals called lusii until they are old enough to become the animals' caretaker themselves. Obviously traumatic and not very effective method of raising well adjusted members of a healthy society

°so in this AU they developed past the point of abandoning children to be taken care of by animals and the adults actually parent.

°the reason why all of the names in the pic are 6 letters is because all of the trolls in HS have 6 letter names. I couldn't bother with Tia so let's just say its a shortened nickname. Sinedd and Rocket are the only ones with valid troll names which once again proves they are the edgiest

DESIGN explanations:

-i picked the blood color/zodiac based purely on vibes because we don't know the SK birthdays and most of them are spot on in my opinion. Except Ahito and Thran who didn't really fit anywhere so i just picked indigo bc blue color. Also i wanted to make Rocket a goldblood(gemini) because of the whole duality aspect between s1 and 2 but since i was drawing on paper and so focused on the horns i forgot literally ALL OF THE GOLDBLOOD DESIGN ELEMENTS. so i changed him to a jadeblood and lo and behold it fits better as well

-the horns are based mostly on shirt designs and jersey numbers(rockets' is the netherball one) with the exception of Mei and Micro ice. I had no idea what to do with them so i just. Drew some shit

-i made Mei a purpleblood purely because they all wear clown makeup. Still makeup nonetheless

-all of the trolls have black hair so anyone here that doesn't dyes it

-all of the trolls wear their zodiac or extended zodiac symbol on their clothes, but i really, really could not be bothered to figure out which one all of these people are. So i just drew headshots. I thought of taking the extended zodiac quiz answering the questions as i think each of the characters would based on the color i chose for them but that would take WAAY too long. Feel free to do it urself if u want

-i thought it would be cool if the horns could be utilized more in the design, so i made a version where the characters painted their horns their football teams' color before a match! Could have picked the shadows colors better but whatever

i used a guide to touch up the designs after i already drew them on paper and the HS wiki to check out if my blood color takes were correct.

I think I'm a really philosophical person, especially with my special interest, because almost every time they kinda show in my life before they become my special interests or hyperfixations. I usually call those moments premonitions idk, like when before Monty become my comfort character last year I had a dream with a baby alligator or how i remember hearing Skwisgaar solo when I was younger but i dont remember have ever seen it in tv so yeah, probably is dumb but I really like connecting my special interests/hyperfixations with the past and then I notice they kinda been around me all the time just waiting for the moment of me knowing about them. I also use them to remember parts of my life because if I remember I was obsessed with homestuck then it was when I was in high school bc I don't have a really good memory by years.

I love collecting nature stuff: i have leafs, rocks, feathers, acorns, dead insects, an old honeycomb and two pinecones because here is rare to find them so they're special to me. I also collect crystals and anime mangas. <:

Winter is my favorite season and when is beginning to be cold I feel like i reborn, idk how to explain the sensation but it feels good I guess is because i was born in November.

I love dancing and laughing, since i was little I was always dancing and taking everyone out to dance and i was a very giggly baby and now whenever i laugh it just make me instantly happy.

so other than some garbage i was writing in middle school no, but i do for sure like let my partner beta everything and we run ideas by each other all the time and like work out how to block stuff and what seems interesting they keep me from going to melodramatic and i help them know what sex sounds fun

uhhhhh i think i'm good at banter? (see echoed through my mind) i think i'm good at like making stuff fit into canon and comply with it in fun ways (see this hope is). i think i'm good at writing characters having break downs (see chapter 3 of silver paint or going with the flow)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

bafhehasdk so like it's kinda a pet peeve a lot of the times i feel like spanish especially ends up reading kind of like Law and Order dialogue like "he trabajo'ed here last week" but i eat that shit up in theory. like people would probs do better throwing random french in shit bc my ass would be like SOUNDS RIGHT TO ME. it's also like cultural references get lost and i know just enough spanish to know when something is "off" so i prefer like "This is a line of dialogue," they said in Spanish.

Homestuck! on wattpad! in 2012! it was bad mpreg! i was 13!!

instant follow up questions i love it. unfortunately i don't have any fantrolls, but the two actual characters ive thought about doing cosplay for most are terezi or vriska. i actually have a pair of terezi glasses a hs friend (here meaning both high school AND Homestuck bc i introduced him to Homestuck ::::3) gave me as a bday gift looong long ago. but nepeta and kanaya are pretty high up there too...... all the midblood girls <333333 like the post said they aren't mid 2 m3333333 !!!!!!!!

i have memories of just coveting the whatpumpkin shop looking at the zodiac shirts and decals when i was younger thinking i could at least get one for myself when i was older since i couldnt get one then. but alas i have not a one troll shirt to my name ::::( cr13s

Tumblr used to have kind of a War Of Use going on. either you were Fandom, or you were Aesthetic. It's difficult to really get across just how strong of a hold these two kinds of blogs had on the culture here. Fandoms are still a big draw on tumblr, but they were inescapably the thing you saw here back in the 2010s. and we were fully problematic, too; Homestuck, Hetalia, My Little Pony, Supernatural, Doctor Who, and BBC Sherlock were basically the big 6, with a VERY special shoutout to the Onceler Fandom, an offshoot of the cgi lorax fandom soley dedicated to remixing the onceler and shipping him with alternate universe versions of himself. this would occur again with undertale and the Sans fandom. due to the popularity of homestuck and hetalia occuring at the same time(and there being noticeable solidarity between the two), there was a period where one of the biggest fandoms on tumblr was... fandomstuck. where you make a humanization of your fandom, make an ask blog, and have them interact with other fandoms. it was glorious, it was cringe as fuck, and i miss it dearly. on a more serious note, sometime around the end of homestuck and the rise of steven universe, there was a noticable uptick in people who struggled to read media with nuance, thought liking a bad guy meant you were a bad person yourself, and generally could not keep these thoughts to themselves - harassment has always been a thing unfortunately, but the flame wars went from "your ship is dumb and stupid and mine is better" to "if you stan this main character you are an actual fascist and probably a pedo". at the time i thought this was bc queer people were desperate for good rep and tearing apart anything that might make them look bad, but now that i look back on it, i think that timing lines up with public schools becoming less and less able to teach accurate history and critical thinking. now we're at the point where simply being a fan of a very popular old show can get you accused of the worst crimes on earth because of one or two problematic elements. which would be less of a problem if it weren't for the mass harassment :/ stay safe, kids, and block liberally.

on the subject of old media, just some advice from someone who's been fandoming for 14 good years: any time you approach an older piece of media(like, pre-2020 and especially pre-2016), prepare yourself for some bigotry or other problematic stuff that was normalized at the time... and allow yourself to like it anyways. recognize that some people Enjoy the parts that really bother you, and that isn't always a bad thing. practice a be-and-let-be attitude, and don't let yourself leave nasty comments on the things that make you upset. save the hate for the senators; we're all just vibing here.

one last nugget o' the old times: the t-shirt post. there was this HUGE long post where various tumblr users investigated why girls and boys take their shirts off differently. turns out, it's because of the cut; girl cut shirts usually have tighter armpits and shorter torsos, so they're easier to peel. boys' shirts usually have lose sleeves and long torsos, so they're easier to tug over your head. use this knowledge wisely. also, the reblog button used to be at the TOP of a post, so if you wanted to subject your followers to it, you had to scroll aaaaall the way back to the top. i am almost certain that "do you love the color of the sky?" is the reason it was moved to the bottom.

Every time I pull out these handmade shades, they break, and it's a pain in the ass. Now I remember I used to bring super glue to all the meets I used to go to, because the arms would detach every time my vibe was off. The hat is new, I was just looking for a Bro hat (since my last one got repainted for Summerteen Romance Bro) and I saw a bundle of like 10 hats and I said, "Oh hell yes, we're making a hat pile for Dirk with all these fucking hats."

his name is dhanus deixis and i periodically redraw him to match his hairstyle to mine. he's a prospit-bound breath player, not that he would know what to do with that information if he knew it. he's also a cuspblood between indigo and cerulean, but close enough to indigo for a pegasus lusus to bond with him. once he exited the caverns, a book scorpion lusus also bonded to him, so he spent most of his childhood trying to prevent his lusii from seeing each other and attempting to kill each other on sight. when he was 6 sweeps old his pegasus lusus did crush the book scorpion to death with its hooves, but injured itself so badly in a fit of equavian rage that dhanus had no choice but to put it out of its misery. with his crossbow strife specibus. right now as a subadult he's in Space Uni about to become the highest ranking official on a primarily agrarian colony. the only quadrants he's ever filled are pale, though he had an unrequited blackrom crush in his youth.

ok i really quickly need to sidebar to talk about the KGs and Ninten because i talked a little bit about them around when i wrote the First masterpost and it's still so so funny to me bc the more i dig up about the different KGs the sillier it gets

bc like . okay. in the rp group that prime/ellis/self/heart/ride system originated in, my best friend at the time rp'd Ninten and i thought he was The Coolest.

so the Very First Appearance Of A KG happens, which is The Origins Of Ellis where the setting is, like, the Real World but then an alien apocalypse happens so everybody bands together and has to survive, and it crossed over with the wider rp continuity because the guy behind the invasion was a reoccurring character... who was friends with Ninten! and had gone evil! so Ninten showed up. and.. okay i need to . directly copy-paste The First Instance Of Ninten Showing Up from the fic version i wrote because:

The black-haired boy nodded. His striped shirt and neckerchief had given him away instantly. What was he doing here? Katie had a vague memory of the psychic getting arrested. He'd been acting oddly when it happened.

Ninten showing up is never explained in the fic. he's just.. there. and Ellis knows him. which knocked me out when i was re-reading the fic earlier this week

and then like, in the noncanon stuff, it was everybody's OCs and any canon characters they rp'd put in the same building and let wild, and that included Ninten and later-established-as-Prime KG! and also Ninten's son from the future, Artemis. and they heckled each other a lot and it was fun. Prime did a lot of heckling people. it's kind of their job. i still write Prime sometimes and their job is still Heckling People For Fun

(so like, in the current Explanation for why KG is Like That, Prime knew Ninten from the Noncanon Zone and that's why Ellis would've recognized him. because shared memories. yea)

i am now grabbing Artemis with force. Artemis was also written by my best friend and he was, like, a Cool Guy that did dark magic and liked Castlevania and whatever. and Artemis ended up being part of the big Heartless battle with Sora and Heart and other ocs when we did the kingdom hearts crossover, and both of them lost their hearts so Artemis/Rasemtix was like. alright. i am grabbing Teixak and i'm gonna figure out how to shove her heart back into her because she's being cringe (rasemtix would've said it derogatory but i'm saying it affectionate). Artemis was ALSO part of the noncanon shenanigans so he ALSO knew Prime, although not... canonically. or well i guess he knew them but None Of The Events Happened except for when they did

1. Which of your fics would you keep the basic plot of but rewrite completely? well you see. I’m working on this novel. and years ago when the idea first came to me in its absolute most bare-bones form, it was in the shape of a homestuck fic that I called Boomslang. I deleted it from AO3 so I could rewrite it, and now I’m something like 17k deep into draft 0.5 and it’s going great. (it doesn’t have very much in common with the original, though.)

7. Your favourite ao3 tag. idk if I have a favourite, I’m not good at picking favourites. I really like the hilariously specific canonical tags though, like the fact that there are tags for inappropriate uses of basically every power system ever, and tags for specific characters being or doing specific things (like “[X] Swears A Lot” and stuff like that).

8. How slow is a slow burn? ahh unfortunately I did just answer this one so instead of repeating myself I’m going to deflect this onto the next question in the list (hope that’s cool):

9. Thoughts on cliffhangers. very good at what they do! easy to overuse, but what isn’t? they make me very nervous as a writer tho. mostly because I don’t trust myself to finish things 😅

17. Past or present tense? Why? I use both! not usually in the same fic tho, not once it’s finished anyway. my first drafts, I write in present tense, bc my first drafts describe the fic’s contents instead of actually writing it out, so that’s a habit from my literary studies. the second draft is sometimes changed to past tense, sometimes not. I mostly go based on vibes. when I was writing With Every Wall Ablaze Around Us, I was writing my notes in present and originally planned to write the fic in past tense, but the poetry I’d written in my notes didn’t work in past, so I went through the whole unfinished fic and changed it to present tense. that was in august I think? or maybe july; either way, pretty early on in the process. (and that one particularly killer line I’d written while the fic was in past tense has niggled at me ever since.)

and, dealer’s choice: 18. First, second, or third person? I’ll read & write in pretty much anything! first person is my least favourite, and for some reason it turns me right off in fanfic (might be ok in fics with first-person source material tho? not sure, haven’t tested). third person is a solid choice, easy to handle, with plenty of flexibility and a polite amount of distance. but second person... ohhh. second person my beloved. I would kiss second person perspective on the mouth. all the intimacy and room for deliberate omissions of first person, but without the tag-along feel of being told someone else’s story, that last layer of distance falls away. second person grabs you by the shirt and pulls you in close and says that’s right, I said you. I’ve been a first- and third-person main for many years, and third is still my go-to for so many things, but second person POV is my favourite.
