Nitiman Ep 5

So, I finally caught up with the new "Nitiman" episode and I have to say, this show gets better week after week. At first, I was pretty sceptical if this show will work out because Bbomb was very weird and overbearing but now, Jin knows him better, so we know him better, and it's a lot easier to watch and accept him because he's showing his good parts.

This show starts off as pretty cliché and there are obviously many clichés in this show but I don't think that's a bad thing. Clichés are not bad as long as the characters work and I don't care if they are college (and even engineer) students or not. I only care about the plot and characters because they carry this whole thing.

"Nitiman" has pretty good character structure and it's not only about two people but also two friend groups colliding. It is much more realistic and brings way more depth and reality into this story. Each are fine with the other's friends but they are not extremly close to them which is just fine. It's nice if you don't fight with them and that's pretty much all you ask for in a relationship. It is not necessary for them all to be best friends because that simply doesn't work.

Friendgroups say a lot about oneself because friends know you the best, so they always know exactly who you are and how you act. You can just feel the warm vibe whenever Jin interacts with his friends. You can just feel they are close. They know him best. They ask the right question. They push him when necessary.

Bbomb is not "dominant" and Jin is not "submissive". They have the vibes of "top" and "bottom" but could easily be a switch couple because Jin is not always listening to Bbomb and sometimes doesn't even care what he thinks. He is his own person, stands up for himself and doesn't need Bbomb to interfere in his matters to save him. Jin can live on his own. Still, they match the clichés physically because Bbomb is very muscular and has a sharp face whereas Jin is a big smaller and has a round face - a baby face. But that doesn't mean he's "submissive". He's just a bit shorter and that's it. That doesn't influence the strength of his character, so that's where the cliché ends and loses meaning.

They are honest which is so rare. Bbomb is straight forward right from the beginning. He makes sure Jin knows, he likes him and he says it multiple times. Jin is denying it at some points but changes his mind after the kiss because he believes his feelings are undeniable. He felt something. He closed his eyes. He didn't pull away. And when Bbomb asks him, he admits his confusion. He doesn't lie or stutter or is insecure about confessing which is very powerful and makes obvious he's not "submissive". Because submissive characters only confess when they are scared, mostly. When they are lost. When they are not in their right mind. Here, Jin is comfortable. Even the next morning when he wakes up in Bbombs arms, he lets Bbomb hug him and even closes his eyes. That is comfort.

There is consent except for the kissing scene because there, Bbomb was just angry. But he never forces Jin. There is no toxic masculinity.

So, I like this show a lot because the characters don't match clichés in a way, the enditing is not painful, the story actually makes sense, they casted two whole friendgroups and there's consent.
