i love half-troll!jim so much and im a bit mad at MYSELF for sneaking out of the angst of him being permanently half-troll jn the bbcm/toa au but the simple fact of the matter is that BBCM!Merlin just Wouldn't Do That. one of the main reasons half-troll!jim even exists is that merlin was a massive asshole. i know it was destined or whatever but like merlin being an asshole was a significant contributing factor. however if i ever write toa fic that ISNT a bbcm crossover i will absolutely be keeping permanent half-troll!jim because i love him and want to write about him.

on the one hand i dont want to include the 'jim gets corrupt by a sharp rock' plot in the bbcm/toa au because i think it was kind of dumb but on the other hand doing so would complete the merlin/jim/claire trinity of having their souls massively fucked up by a corrupting force

writing this fic is making me realize that the whole scene where the gumm-gumms are crawling out of the hole made by the eternal night spell must have looked, like, mildly ridiculous from underneath. like, that hole was blown in the ceiling of trollmarket. did they have ladders? were they climbing on each other? was morgana levitating them up to crawl dramatically into the canal and freak people out??

okay so in light of me making a new bbcm post and it shooting up to 200+ notes in like four says, i can say with relative confidence that like the toa fandom, merlin fans like and reblog a LOT and often leave comments when they do. only its even better somehow because this is a fandom thats been around over ten years and theyre still kicking like the show just ended last year.

one thing thats fun about me making posts in several different, vaguely popular fandoms is that i get to see the difference in the fandoms when it comes to notes. despite being a pretty dead fandom as far as content production goes, my toa posts got a shitton of notes super fast, and a good percentage of those (at least in terms of tumblr's usual) have been reblogs, often with comments in the tags. two of my sandman posts blew up and are in the thousands now, and still gaining. i was able to check because there was a note in my inbox from today on the most popular one. ive only had wednesday for a few weeks, but i have made exactly one main-tagged post in the fandom and it shot up to 100 in less then a day, except 90 of that is likes. i tag all merlin posts i rb with 'bbc merlin' so im not going through to check those, but you get the idea. idk why its just fascinating to me jshfjfbf

in light of the bbcm/tales of arcadia crossover post i just made (which consisted mainly of overly-extensive tags). please imagine bbcm!merlin deciding to fuck off and take a hundred-year nap when things are pretty chill, leaving his also-somehow-immortal apprentice douxie to handle things on earth, and then a century later douxie comes barging into his designated Nap Crypt, pots and pans banging, yelling "WAKE UP YOU OLD FART THE WORLD'S ENDING AGAIN."

if i had a nickel for every time a TV show took a spin on arthurian mythology in which one of the pendragons lost his wife to magic and was sent into a vindictive rage against it that eventually made morgana turn against him, i'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but its weird that it's happened twice

also, merlin and morgana's dynamic is much more compelling to me now that its "he was meant to be my friend but he lied to me and pushed me away for years, hiding the fact that he was emrys and eventually leaving me no choice but to turn to the darkness for the warmth he kept from me" rather than "he took my arm and made a magical amulet with it and now im so mad at him that im gonna kill all his trollhunters"
