Tradewinds stitched by Sally Sheridan. Pattern ($6.99) designed by Teresa Wentzler.
In 2003 I showed my dad the TW Tradewinds leaflet and asked if he'd like it for his home office. He wasn't a fan of the sampler section, but very much liked the ship, dolphins and mermaid. Bonus was that the smaller rectangular sized would fit on his office bookshelf.
This project was much larger and more complex than anything I had stitched before. I had dozens of needles threaded with colors and blends. The stitching took me 282 hours over 10 months. I presented the completed and mounted Tradewinds to my dad at Christmas 2004.
Tradewinds graced dad's office for 9 years. When he passed, I reclaimed it and put Tradewinds on my bookshelf. When I moved 2 years ago Tradewinds found a spot on my dresser where I see it daily. And it started whispering to me that I should start stitching again.
I could not have completed Tradewinds without the information and encouragement of the Teresa Wentzler BB and Rotation Stitchers BB groups. Those bulletin boards (BBs) pre-dated Facebook as we know it today. Now this TW Cross Stitch SAL group serves that purpose. And I’ll be happy to share what I learned with anyone interested in Tradewinds.
Framed Dimensions: 17.5” wide x 11.25” tall
Stitch count: 114H x 210W Fabric: 28 count Confederate Gray Cashel by Zweigart Floss and threads: 59 DMC colors per floss list on leaflet, plus some Kreinik blending filament Modifications to Tradewinds design: • Excluded sampler alphabet, compass and corresponding portion of side borders (sadly this included the mermaids’ tails) • For sparkle added metallic threads to waves under the ship, sun, moon and stars (modification from TWBB) • Over 1 stitches added detail in mermaid faces and flesh (modification from TWBB) New-to-me things that made the project easier: • Gridded the fabric with Sulky in 20 thread (10 stitch) blocks • Stitched on a scroll frame and floor stand • Ott light with 3x magnifier (useful for accuracy, and essential for the over 1 stitches) • Made working copies of the design, marking progress and next step with multiple colors of highlighters • Needle organizer to manage dozens of needles loaded with the threads • Organized the cut floss for blended colors in small baggies with labels
Oh my gosh! Those sails!! <part of a post I wrote in Oct. 2003 after about 20 hours of stitching> I read many posts in TWBB while I was kitting up Tradewinds. And I saw the warnings about the sails. But I thought folks were complaining because the white was boring and there is a good bit of it. Well, I apologize to all those who went before me and survived the sails. Tonight I picked Tradewinds back up and seriously started on the sails. Oh my gosh! Confetti stitching in shades of white/ecru/beige that I can barely distinguish one from another. It begs the question of whether there can be such a thing as too many colors. And blocks of pattern from one sail to the next that are almost the same, but not quite. I started with the jibs, and had initially planned to do the sails mast by mast. Now I'll divide the "sail making" into more parts. <fast forward to Nov. 2020> Now each time I look at the final result I am in awe of Teresa Wentzler’s use of colors in a design. All those colors and confetti stitching are challenging, but well worth the effort.
To avoid burn-out as I tackled my first piece of this size I set monthly goals and rotated between 2 projects: Tradewinds and a small fun stitching project. Another key to success was breaking the work into “bit-sized” portions and the taking a moment to appreciate each accomplishment. Like many of TW’s designs Tradewinds lends itself to this approach: a couple sails at a time, one border panel at a time, the moon and the stars, etc. Completing a discrete item is much more satisfactory for me than working a square inch at a time. Sharing accomplishments and cheering on others in a stitch-along group also kept me engaged.

Bigg Boss OTT finale: Pratik Sehajpal emerging as the first confirmed contestant of BB 15 to Shamita Shetty apologising to Divya Agarwal, highlights of the night | The Times of India
It was a rare sight to see. Shamita, who has been at loggerheads with Divya Agarwal throughout the season, actually apologised to her arch rival on the finale night. In her speech on finale, she said, “I let a lot of negativity come in between my friendship with Divya. I misunderstood her friendship with Raqesh Bapat and I took it to another level in my anger and frustration. When we were only…

How much do you think production is involved this season of Big Brother? It feels to me like they're heavily influencing what happens just to keep the Posh/Jody war going.
Production is honestly god awful this season:
–bringing Paul back of all people, even though he just got 2nd place one season ago, if you exclude OTT (at least when they brought Dan back in BB14, it had been a few seasons since he last appeared)
–Making the first Den of Temptation three weeks of safety when nobody other than Paul (the only vet) had a fan base at that point so obv Paul was going to get it.
–Allowing Paul to still compete in HOH/POV despite being safe for three weeks (yet in S13 those w/ safety b/c of Golden Keys weren’t allowed to compete…..)
–Rather than just adding Paul as an additional houseguest, they had him take over a superfan who actually auditioned’s spot.
–Making Paul immediately safe with the friendship bracelets and having the other HGs have to suck up to Paul for their initial safety, thus fucking up the rest of the game (honestly, I think this is why they’re all so far up Paul’s ass still. that day 1 friendship bracelet stuff created the illusion he’s more powerful/not equal to them and their safety depends on him).
–Making the first HOH comp that Paul won Candy Crush themed (a game show Paul was on) and making the most recent one tattoo themed. not necessarily rigging but like okay we get it production, you like Paul.
Yeah, they really want the Jody/Paul narrative. I just hope they’re pulling for Jody and finally ditching their golden boy Paul (like how they dropped their fave Frank last season). I don’t like Cody as a person at all, but at least the dude applied to the show because he wanted to play BB, not be a character on a TV show (though he’s unintentionally become one) or extend 15 min of fame. Same for Jessica, pretty sure she’s a fan of the show too. Paul didn’t even know what a veto was last year…..

HACF Rewatch Recap: S01E02
We finally see Cameron’s hardass personality crack at the beginning when the IBM guys scare her. Mackenzie handled that so subtly and I love it
“We will ruin his life.” Omg that way Lee delivered this line was fucking hilarious
Awww Debbie. I miss her. She was so sweet
Joe’s speeches are so ott and I love everything about them hahah
Cameron’s snark towards Joe at the beginning is my fave. She’s the only one who effectively calls out his bullshit in a way that gets to him. They’re such assholes to each other in the first few eps lmao
I love watching Cameron working and struggling along the way. It makes her so vulnerable in a way that we don’t see until she becomes close to Bos and Joe
It takes a while for Donna to really come into her own in the first season. I don’t think it’s till about the 4th ep that she’s the Donna we know?
The clothing montage isn’t super effective bc Mackenzie pulls off literally all of these outfits lmaoo
Watching this after seeing season 3, it makes it a lot easier to sympathize with Gordon, which I never thought I’d say
When Joe walks out and everyone’s staring at him in disgust, it’s kind of like when Regina George realized everyone hates her
Lol god I completely forgot about the scene when Joe causes a scene at the stereo store. Settle down with the drama queen act, boy
Something I’ve come to realize over 3 seasons: Joe is very bad at fighting lol
Poor bb with his scars :( Tho now that I think about it, did Gordon ever find out how Joe actually got those scars?
This is the first time we see Joe with a lot of emotion for a few episodes. He’s open about it with these two, which I think is telling for the rest of the show?

My favorite part of bb is the beyonce curse tbh. Like during bbcan4 Christine shit talked beyonce and then injured herself and got evicted. Michelle and Paulie both shit talked her and got evicted soon after. Then finally during Ott Shelby and Alex both said they hated her and were soon evicted.
omg right? It works every time and remember that Arisa was wearing a yellow and black like bee looking dress for Christine’s eviction? legends only. but just imagine hating Beyonce like....that is so sad

With three video games left within the common season, they face Wichita State and Tulane on the street of their regular-season finale. However first is a Sunday showdown vs. upset-minded Tulsa.
The Golden Hurricane convey with them a six-game successful streak, and face a Bearcats crew that has stumbled with two losses of their final three contests. It could possibly be a recipe for a Tulsa-tinted storm, however Frank Haith’s crew should do it on the street, the place they’re simply Three-Four in convention play.

Yahoo Daily Fantasy Hockey: Saturday picks
Goaltender Cam Ward #30 of the Carolina Hurricanes skates back to the net after a break in the action against the Florida Panthers at the BB&T Center on March 21, 2017 in Sunrise, Florida. (Getty Images)
By Sasha Yodashkin
There’s no shortage of action on Saturday’s 10-game NHL evening slate. Oilers players will be in high demand in their rematch with Colorado after scoring seven goals Thursday, but there’s value to be found throughout the rest of the league as well.
GOALIE
Cam Ward, CAR at NJ ($28): The Devils have fully embraced the tank, dropping 13 of their past 15 games. With Edmonton’s recent struggles in net, Ward offers you the best chance at adding the six fantasy points that come with a win despite being priced at just $28. New Jersey’s season average of 2.27 goals per game strengthens Ward’s case even more.
Goalie to Avoid
Cam Talbot, EDM vs. COL ($38): Talbot has been pulled in consecutive contests while allowing eight goals on 33 shots. He exited after two periods Thursday and watched from the bench as backup Laurent Brossoit presided over his team’s third-period comeback. It looks like his heavy workload is finally catching up to the league leader in minutes, so Talbot doesn’t look like a good investment at $38 regardless of opponent right now.
[Join a Yahoo Daily Fantasy Hockey contest now]
CENTER
Leon Draisaitl, EDM vs. COL ($22): Draisaitl doesn’t just have a six-game point streak going. He has racked up multi-point efforts in six consecutive appearances, and shows no signs of slowing down here against the league’s worst defensive team. Even if his third-period demotion from Thursday night lands him on the second line for this contest rather than the first, Draisaitl proved more than capable of maintaining his elite form in that role by collecting a goal and an assist after the move in Colorado. If you don’t want to pay $35 for Connor McDavid, this $22 alternative offers nearly the same scoring upside at a fraction of the cost.
Center to Avoid
Jean-Gabriel Pageau ($17): Pageau is back in a third-line role with both Kyle Turris and Derick Brassard healthy, but remains priced at $17. He has produced just one assist without a goal in the past six games, and is unlikely to turn things around against Carey Price considering the Montreal netminder has allowed just 16 goals in his past 10 starts.
WING
Jordan Eberle, EDM vs. COL ($15): It took just one period of playing on a line with McDavid for Eberle to light the lamp twice Thursday, so a full game alongside the star center could result in massive production against the same opponent. His eight goals and 15 assists in this season’s first 30 games as the first line right wing show what Eberle is capable of in that role, and facing an Avalanche team that has allowed 3.34 goals per game further adds to his value. Even if coach Todd McLellan moves him back to the second line, you still get a confident three-time 60-point scorer in a favorable matchup for just $15.
Rick Nash, NYR at LA ($19): Nash has started to round back into form over the past five games, firing four shots on goal in three consecutive contests before lighting the lamp in each of the last two. The eight-time 30-goal scorer is also seeing a minute more than his season ice time average of 16:30 during that stretch, putting him in position to stay hot against a struggling Kings team that has allowed at least two goals in 11 of its past 12 games. With an inevitable drop in production coming at playoff time, enjoy his regular-season scoring proficiency while you still can.
Wings to Avoid
Filip Forsberg, NSH vs. SJ ($23): Forsberg has come back down to earth after a late February scoring binge with just five points in 10 March appearances. That level of production isn’t worth $23, especially against a Sharks team that has held opponents to the second-fewest goals per game at 2.30.
Paul Byron, MTL vs. OTT ($17): With 37 points in 73 games and 15:03 of ice time per contest, Byron hasn’t exactly been a $17 player this season. Expect the diminutive winger to look even more overpriced than usual against Senators netminder Craig Anderson, who ranks ninth in GAA (2.29) and third in save percentage (.928).
DEFENSE
Kevin Shattenkirk, WAS vs. ARI ($19): Shattenkirk has started to adjust to life in Washington, recording four of his six points over the past eight games on the power play. His 24 points with the extra man are fourth among defensemen, and this matchup against the league’s fifth-worst penalty kill presents a great opportunity to keep climbing the ranks. Shattenkirk’s minus-12 rating also is also unlikely to be a deterrent given the low likelihood of a Coyotes team with 63 points managing a road upset against a Capitals squad with President’s Trophy aspirations.
Jay Bouwmeester, STL vs. CGY ($14): Bouwmeester won’t blow you away with his offensive production, but there’s a reason he used to make $6.8 million per year in Calgary and now rakes in $5.4 million with the Blues. He has notched at least 7.0 fantasy points in eight consecutive contests, and his ability to contribute both shots and blocks along with a plus-9 rating over that stretch suggests that production is sustainable. At just $2 over the minimum, Bouwmeester carries almost no risk given his high floor.
Defensemen to Avoid
Brent Seabrook, CHI at FLA ($18): Seabrook relies on the power play for a larger portion of his offense than any other Blackhawk, with 14 of his 36 points coming with the extra man. That element of his game will likely be neutered by a top-ranked Florida penalty kill that has denied 85.9 percent of opportunities, leaving Seabrook too offensively inept to justify an $18 investment.
Alex Goligoski, ARI at WAS ($18): Goligoski’s two strong fantasy performances in the past five have drawn some eyes, but it’s telling that he has no other efforts above 5.0 fantasy points over his past 10 appearances. The veteran blueliner’s downside is too great to justify paying $18 for him in this awful matchup.
