curious if william would've been able to keep himself together a teeny bit more if henry had been the one to die instead.

There's genuinely a lot of different outcomes should Henry die instead of William. But generally speaking, William is better at handling his emotions. The difference between the two is that Henry is impulsive and never taught how to cope properly. William, on the other hand, was taught from a young age to deal with problems himself, which led him to learning how to handle his emotions without the need for another person(although that skill drastically decreased the longer he was around Henry.)

So, in that case, William would be able to keep himself together FAR better than Henry had. He has the same "Whatever happens, happens" mindset of course, but he keeps his self preservation skills and doesnt turn to self destruction as a way to cope.

He'd probably still end up dying in under a year just because he lacks the care by then, but not nearly as quickly as Henry, nor in a way similar to Henrys canon death.

Hmmmjnm.. thinking a lot about how william and henry see themselves as less than they are so they can raise each other up on a pedestal and view the other as someone better than themselves which inadvertently creates a small power imbalance in their own head because theyd do anything for each other. They're always doing things to try and prove themselves even when theres nothing to prove when in reality all they want is to be good enough for each other and they have no idea that the other sees them as someone 10x better than themselves..
