Greetings from Georgia!🇬🇪
It's the fourth day of my trip, this time we wake up in Kutaisi: the town took its name from white river rocks
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm obsessed with this architecture as you already know😅
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Georgian market is very colourful
Tumblr media
Now in Prometheus Cave I could not help but think stalactites resemble churchkhelas🤭 but some are also like beetroots...
Tumblr media
coral reef...
Tumblr media
giant clay jars and mushrooms
Tumblr media
I even found a dinosaur!
Tumblr media
I think "Hall of Love" was my favorite there❤️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The upper part looks a bit like honeycomb while the lower part reminds me of udder - I thought that maybe it's a sign that Georgia is the land of milk and honey😉
Tumblr media
This is a sculpture of a man who was watching the exit if the cave for many years, together with his dog
Tumblr media
When we arrived to Adjaria you could clearly witness the change of climat zone - on the left is what we saw before Kutaisi and on the right is near Batumi:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's the great Batumi Botanical Garden:
Tumblr media
I loved these trees!!!😍
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The view at Black Sea from the garden
Tumblr media
Batumi welcomed us with rain😑
Tumblr media
But still we could analyse the condition of local buildings - apparently they are not as old as they appear, sometimes only 5 or 10 years! But made of very cheap material in very unfavorable weather condition🙄
Tumblr media
The sea shore at night was nice even in the rain❤️
Tumblr media
Ali and Nino were not moving at all☹️ Maybe it's turned off for autumn... Only the guy on the right was glowing its heart
Tumblr media
And now for something completely different: this apparently is the most common georgian bathroom - the whole floor works as a shower tray... It seemed quite confusing for us but our guide said it works really well, make the bathroom easy to clean and after opening bathroom's window it doesn't take long for it to dry👍

Day 35 -10 October - Batumi
We got up and had a coffee on the balcony in our ‘residence’. We then went out and walked around the old town which is really nice, it has lots of belle epoch Russian buildings with a few brutalist blocks dotted around. Along the water front, there are a few tall towers that are relatively new, including a mad one that has a ferris wheel 100m up. We took some scooters and bombed along the promenade then walked to get a catchipuri the cheese bread that think is the most famous Georgian food. We got a big one which between 2 high was a real struggle. We then went up this cable car which gave us a good view of the town and port. After that we went to chill out in the room before dinner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then went to this roof top bar in the Raddison hotel which gave us a good view of the city as the sun went down. We wrote a few postcards and had a then went walked the 40 or so minutes to the fish market, where there was a load of fish restaurants near the water. As we were walking there this quite sweet street dog padded up behind us and then walked with us along this very busy road to the market, by then end he was walking in front of us and looking back to make sure we were with him. Unfortunately we had to leave him as we went in. We might have ordered a bit too much, continuing the theme of the day. And left pretty stuffed. As we were leaving we saw the dog lying down outside the restaurant, hopefully waiting for some scraps. We then walked home and went to bed!
Tumblr media
Where we ate - Laguna, Fishlandia
What we liked - The cachipuri was nice but too big! Fish was also nice but have probably had better!
Day 36 -11 October - Batumi > Ozurgeti
Woke up and went for a run along the sea, we then got an take away coffee and packed up our stuff and checked out of the room. We then went to the post office to post our postcards and then for dumplings that were very big, soupy and tasty. We then went to the bus stop to get our mini bus to Ozurgeti. The bus took a lot less time that we expected and we found ourselves in the main square looking to get a taxi to the place where our work away is. There was a bit of a meeting outside the taxi, as the driver looked for the place on maps and asked different people about it, until one guy came over, said a couple of words and everyone went ‘ohhh’ and got it straight away.
We then arrived at the place and were shown around, it is a pretty magical place with a small vineyard, lots of trees and a river. The works away people are helping to build a house for one of the families which has been going on for a couple of years. They are using interesting techniques such as wool insulation, earth plaster and other things. The building approach seems quite haphazard but I guess they get pretty much free labour to do most of it. There is an American guy called Kurt who organises the workaway people and the building. We had some additional lunch and since we arrived just in time for the end of the workday, the rest of the time was ours. Apparently it is supposed to rain all week so it remains to be seen what we will actually do, I guess if it is too wet to do anything we can always leave! There are a couple of very cute dogs!
Tumblr media
What we ate - Nice stew and some lovely bean thing
What we liked - food is really good here
Day 37 -12 October - Ozurgeti
First full day in our work away and even though the other volunteers had their weekend, we did our 5 hours work. Partly because we wanted to actually do some work and also because it is going to rain for a few days apparently and there were things that we could do that would allow us to work better the next few days.
Tumblr media
We did a few things, one was to treat the wool that is used in the insulation with boric acid so that insects don’t eat it! The other thing we did was to wiz up straw with a strimmer in a barrel like soup with a stick blender and then feed it through a sieve to get a small consistency. This is used in the plaster to bind it together. We also helped some Georgian men who are building the septic tank move sand for cement mixing. It was quite hot but the work was fine and it was nice to do some things, even if the others were not doing work as well.
We set up the wool on a tarp and mixed and put on the boric acid with a sprayer and left it out to dry. We had breakfast at 10 and then after that I did the straw which sounded easy but was actually quite long work. I then did a similar thing with sand for a bit, sifting out the rocks for sand to be used in plaster. I then helped move some other sand for this septic tank.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We had lunch at 3 which was really nice, including this fried bread with caramelised onion in the middle of it which was delicious. There is quite a sweet french man who is staying in one of the holiday lets who we spoke to about carpets and photography for a bit before going and finishing off a couple of things before being done for the day. We then walked down to the river (about 60m down the garden) and had a dip in the river. The river is quite shallow so you can only really lie in it but it was really refreshing. On the way we saw a lady picking hazel nuts and she had a quite frisky cow (turned out it was a bull) with her who was bucking about a bit It looked like it was tied up but wasn’t. Kurt our volunteer coordinator was walking with his dog on a lead who is quite barky to other animals. As we were saying hello to him the cow appeared out of nowhere and they had a massive stand off before Kurt dragged him away!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then came back and we packed away the wool and then this Russian couple who are staying on work away had built a fire to roast chestnuts and created a bamboo grill for them to be roasted, we stayed there for a bit chatting and then I had a shower which felt needed and nice. We then had dinner of pasta and this delicious vegetable and lentil soup as well as bean bread that was delicious. After dinner the owner of the house gave us some wine from their vineyard, which was a double skin contact amber wine, which was a really dark orange wine, it almost looked red but not quite, it was delicious. Apparently before the soviets decided that this should be the area that tea was grown in the USSR because it was the only sub tropical area in the whole union, there had been 60 different unique varieties of grape grown in Guria (the province we are in). And although they had been decimated by Phylloxera they had started to be coming back.
She then gave us a fascinating impromptu talk on the history of tea in the area and her families links to it. This is one of the things they do with paid guests which is a tea tour. Her mother had run a tea research center in the area which had driven the production in tea in the USSR, which was consumed in huge quantities in the USSR and other communist countries in Eastern Europe. They have a nearly 100 year old tea garden in the garden of the house. She had lots of books and pamphlets about it, as well as photographs from the time. She also had these amazing photographs from her family, including family photographs that had been kept by her grandfather in a Gulag and that had kept him alive knowing what he had to stay alive for! The family all seem very intelligent and driven and apparently they are 4 generations university educated with at least 3 of those being women. One of the daughters Mariam is working for the OECD as an observer for the election happening this month, of which the head of mission is Eoghan Murphy, former housing minister of Ireland.

The Ultimate Georgia Travel Guide: Everything You Need to Know
Tired of the same old travel destinations? Are you dreaming of getting lost in a land where ancient history whispers from every mountain peak and the scent of delicious food fills the air? Georgia is the escape!
Tumblr media
Best Time to Visit Georgia
Georgia’s climate is generally mild, making it a year-round destination. However, the best times to visit are during the spring (March to May) and fall (September to November). During these months, the weather is pleasant, and the scenery is breathtaking. Springtime is a feast for the eyes with blooming dogwoods and azaleas, while fall paints the landscape in vibrant hues. Summer can get hot and humid, especially in southern Georgia, but it’s also the season for festivals, concerts, and beach trips.
Must-Visit Places in Georgia
Tumblr media
The Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and the Jvari Monastery are prime examples of the country’s religious architecture. These UNESCO World Heritage sites are must-visit destinations. These ancient churches, historical monuments, and scenic locations make them integral parts of any Georgia travel guide. Check out the Caucasus Tours’ The wonderful Georgia, a rich 5-day sightseeing tour. Do not worry this package will cover all the places which you should not miss out on.
Located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, Blue Ridge is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway offers a delightful ride through the mountains and along the Toccoa River, showcasing some of the best views in the area. Hikers will enjoy treks such as the Appalachian Trail and the Benton MacKaye Trail.
Now let’s dive into something unique which this place has to offer.
Tskaltubo is a well known destination for tetra cave therapy. This unique cave ecotherapy is a non-medicinal treatment using the microclimate of natural karst caves, benefiting the lungs – One of a kind experience you should not miss.
Next up is Borjomi, a renowned mineral water therapy place. This includes the practice of using mineral-rich spring waters for healing which is also supported by numerous studies. Mineral spring therapies offer a unique blend of natural healing and wellness. Include Borjomi in your itinerary and feel the richness the place has to offer.
Do not forget Shekvetili. Shekvetili is known for its magnetic sand therapy. Wondering what magnetic sand therapy is and why to visit this place? The healing properties of magnetic fields have been recognized in modern medicine and is referred to as magnetotherapy. Check out this place to immerse yourself into this experience.

Georgia is considered the birthplace of wine, with a winemaking tradition that dates back over 8,000 years. The country’s unique winemaking methods, using large clay jars called qvevri, produce wines with distinct flavors that are gaining international recognition. With its ancient qvevri and diverse grape varieties, Georgian wines boast complex flavors and aromas. From the full-bodied Saperavi to the refreshing Rkatsiteli, Georgian wines offer a journey through centuries of tradition and terroir. Enjoy Georgian wines, chacha (grape brandy), and other local spirits.

Greetings from Georgia!🇬🇪
The sixth day of my trip to Georgia - leaving Batumi in the morning, heading to Borjomi and Akhaltsikhe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tea fields near Batumi (old polish song Batumi by Filipinki says there are tea fields in the Batumi itself but it isn't true. At least not any more)
Tumblr media
We were eating dinner with such a breathtaking view!🫠 And also this wooden framed veranda was one of the most beautiful that I've seen so far!😍 (and with my ATWD obsession I really did saw many, lol🤭)
Tumblr media
Looks to me like this female toilet came through some gender identity crisis before it was assigned to it finally😆 (ქალი [qali] = woman)
Tumblr media
Borjomi. Since you can easily google "normal" photos of this popular place - have my point of view:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Check out this vine-creature😏 I'd love to draw something ispired with this thing!😋
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Architecture here seem a little bit different than in other places - is it the influence of its arabian past?🤔
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This guy with moustache I saw in old photography looks so much like Irakli!😍 I definitely need to draw Irakli with moustache some day❤️ (with Merab of course😏)
Tumblr media
Young man, do you know your pants are falling down? Oh, it's on purpose? Okey, cool, none of my business👍
Tumblr media
Castle in Akhaltsikhe is not really old but who cares, check out the view!!!😋
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Are you already tired with all my window-framed landscapes? Great, have some more then! (You'll be rewarded)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Surprise! - my creative self-portrait!😁📷🧑‍🎨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Evening walk in Akhaltsikhe. While my group was searching for the restaurant, I was just enjoying "normal people" houses - as always👍 (I was not hungry after the insane amount of fatty food I ate only 4 hours before but apparently I was the only one)

Ain't this beautiful?👌

Discovering Batumi: Botanical Garden, Chacha Tower, and Urban Landmarks
Batumi is Georgia’s attractive summer capital that sits on the shores of the Black Sea. It attracts visitors from both Turkey and Russia, though the Russians you may meet are probably living there to escape the likelihood of being drafted into Putin’s armed forces. Russians drive the price of almost everything upwards and are resented by the Georgians, although there’s little they can do about it…
