Oswald knew it was something of a risk to get up out of bed before you…especially after the previous night's events…

But he just felt like he should treat you somehow…a little surprise…a token of his appreciation for you and your love for him.

He's used to cooking for himself (and Buzz occasionally whenever he was especially good) so he figured cooking for one more shouldn't be too much trouble.

Oz did have a nagging feeling that you would get the wrong idea if you woke up without him there, but hopefully, the plates of food…

As Oz slowly made his way back to the bedroom, he was relieved to see you still dozing away.

He gently shook your shoulder. “Darling…I've brought up some breakfast…”

The prospect of food to your slightly growling stomach caused you to stir as you began stretching out your limbs.

“Good morning, Ozzie…”

“Good morning, my dear…um did you sleep well?”

You nodded as you took the tray from his hands. “I did, and you?”

Oz made himself comfortable back under the sheets. “Best sleep I've had in years.”

You smiled at him before taking a bite of food. “I'm glad to hear it…”

There was a comfortable silence as you two relished in the warmth of the sun pouring through the windows and the warmth of each other's loving presence.

“That was amazing. Thanks for breakfast Ozzie…” You set your plate and your used utensils on your nightstand.

Even though breakfast was finished you really had no intentions on getting out of bed.

Batman Unlimited Penguin - Breakfast in Bed

You were pacing around the kitchen island as you grabbed various supplies. Everything you would need to surprise Oswald who was still peacefully snoozing in the bedroom down the hall. 

You’ve been planning this surprise for awhile, but you rarely got the chance to go through with it because somehow Oswald always managed to wake up before you. 

Even though, you finally got the upperhand and making headway, there was still the high probability he could wake up and spoil the surprise. Atleast the “in bed” part of making him breakfast in bed. 

Thankfully, you had a trust little friend to keep a look out. 

Buzz, Oswald’s penguin comrade from his exile in the Antarctic, had his head peeking around from the wall. He watched closely for any movement down the hall and from the bedroom. 

“Signs of anything, Buzz?” You asked over your shoulder as you began stirring in the pan.

Buzz squawked softly. 

“Thanks, Buzz!” 

The penguin nodded in affirmation as he went back to watching. 

After a few more hours of cooking, you finally began making the proper finishing touches on the serving tray. 

“I’ve really outdone myself this time, Buzz.” You smiled looking at your finished product. 

Buzz’s approving squawk came from right beside you as he looked at the breakfast delicacy you made.

His close proximity to you caused you to slightly jump at his comment, but then a revelation hit. 

“BUZZ! You were supposed to be on look out!” 

Buzz hopped off the stool almost falling as he panically tries to waddle back to his position. 

“What’s all this ruckus-AH BUZZ! What’s gotten into you!” 

You guffawed at the sight of Buzz, an actual penguin, trying to brute force Oswald, The Penguin, back into the bedroom.

“Thanks Buzz! Sorry, honey! I promise it will all make sense in a minute!” You hollered in between laughing spurts.

When you made your way to the bedroom with the serving tray in hand, you did everything you could not to fall into a laughing fit at the sight before you. 

Oswald was sitting up, promptly, in bed. While Buzz held his position steadfast, ensuring that the man didn't move an inch. 

"Perhaps you could explain the meaning of all this?" He asked breathlessly, just desperate for an explanation.

You nodded. "I will explain everything. But over a spot of breakfast." 

You laid the tray gently on Oswald's lap and Buzz finally seemed to relax. 

"Oh! You…you made this…for-for me?" Oswald looked up at you, eyes widened in surprise. 

"I did! I-I have been wanting to surprise you for awhile…but you've always gotten up before me.." 

You gestured toward Buzz. "And I had him look out, to make sure you didn't wake up before I finished." 

When the explanation set in, Oz couldn't help but laugh. 

"You were right…it does make much more sense now." He delicately picked a bite of his breakfast with a fork and began eating it. 

"This is…it's delicious. Thank you, my love, I-I will never know what I did to deserve you…" 

You leaned in and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "You deserve it, Oz. That's why I wanted to do it." 

Soon an abrupt growling noise disrupted the intimate moment.

Now you’re tired of him, no longer looking forward to his hand kisses or warm embraces. 

Even if you do aid him, tell him you were just messing around..

It may ease him, but it will take awhile to ease him long-term..

He will revert back to being unsure and cautious.

Oswald doesn’t think too much of it at first. 

He understands being preoccupied with something. 

When he gets a moment alone with you for a moment, he closes his eyes and puckers.

Nothing, but the faint breeze of you walking away from him. 

Okay, something is definitely up. 

He asks if something was troubling you. 

You just shake your head, you’re fine, just busy, it’s nothing…

Excuses…excuses…

Oswald is adamant to get to the bottom of this. 

However, when he chases after you, he sees you smiling as you softly laugh to yourself.

Oz rolls his eyes, annoyed. 

Fine, be that way then!

He doesn’t know what he said or did to piss you off. 

But he thought you’d atleast be fair enough to atleast tell him. 

Not just turn away from him anytime he tried to hold you or kiss you. 

This is normal for when you were upset with him.

But he genuinely can’t think of what he did wrong. 

Whenever this happened in the past, he made efforts to change where he could.

He felt he has, so what’s the big deal now?

Soon he hears you giggling. Something about how pouty he looked. 

Oz groans, so you were just purely messing with him. 

You’re really cruel you know that?

One Bad Day Penguin: 

Ozzie is perplexed. 

What’s gotten into you?

He tries not to let it get to him. 

Carrying on with his other day by day duties.

But you still plagued his mind. 

You were passing by the hallway and when he tried to wrap an arm around your waist you dodged him. 

He began growing frustrated, there was never a problem he couldn’t solve. 

Oz asks Lili if she has any idea. 

Oz is surprised when Lili bursts out laughing. 

Apparently it was all some elaborate prank between you and her. 

Oz grumbles, rolling his eyes. 

But you turn his frown upside down when you finally kiss his cheek.

The Batman (2004) Penguin:

Ozzie gets pretty annoyed. 

He doesn’t get it, what’s the big idea?

Did someone get you upset? What happened? 

Just tell him please!

Whatever he’s gotta do, he’ll do it. 

Ozzie is practically whining like a child at this point. 

If it’s nothing, why are you dodging him, huh? 

Eventually you give in, giggling. 

You were just teasing him? Just to see how he’d react? 

What kinda sadist are you?

Well, you got your answer…can he get some love now? 

Batman Unlimited Penguin: 

Oswald is dumbfounded. 

What’s gotten into you?

Surely it wasn’t someday of major significance…right? 

Yet you keep turning away from him every time he tried to touch you.

Did it finally catch up to you that you deserve more than him as a partner? 

Oswald’s worst fear? 

You notice his eyes start getting glossed over…

You realize too soon you may have taken it too far. 

Your arms instantly wrap around Oswald as you kiss his nose. 

Apologizing relentlessly, you were just teasing, seeing how he’d react. 

Oswald lets out a long sigh of relief, you’re not mad at him or sick of him! 

That reassurance means more than anything, as he easily forgives you.

Reader Comforting the Penguins’ Insecurities

Arkhamverse Penguin:

He hated mirrors. As much as he tried to just shrug them off. Alas, he did need them, for another strenuous activity…getting dressed. 

He tried and tried to shove it down. His long pointed nose, receding hair, glass wedged in his eye…his belly slightly hanging out from his pants. 

Oz growled in frustration. He thought he was over this shit. 

"Ozzie?" 

The man jumped for a second, knocking himself out of his self loathing reverie. 

"Bloody hell, you scared me love!" He chuckled.

You giggled. "I didn't mean to startle you.." You walked over to the vanity he was sitting at on the other side of your bedroom. 

You leaned against the drawers and looked down at Oz with a soft smile. "Is everything all right Ozzie?" 

Oswald gave a meek side smile and nodded. "Yeah I'm all right, love." 

Not believing him, you slowly came up and hugged him from behind. You softly kissed the back of his neck to his head and looked back at him through the mirror. 

"You're so handsome, you know that?" You turned your head and kissed his cheek. "Come on, let's go to bed." 

The compliment took him by surprise, it really shouldn't have but it did. He'll never get used to how well you can read him without even realizing it. Nor just how much your words spoke louder and meant more than any cruel words his mind or his past repeated back to him.

Reevesverse/Farrell Penguin:

You were telling him a story, but he couldn't help but get lost in his reflection in a letter opener on his desk. Oswald's eyes traced the scar that disfigured his face. 

Following that down to the real gut just below his chest. 

Honestly, what did you see? He already knew this and he wanted to believe you but God…you deserved better. 

"Oz? Ozzie?" 

"Hm?"

"What's the matter?" 

"Nah. It's nothing, sweetheart. Sorry I didn't mean to drift off…"

Little did he know, you noticed him glaring at his reflection on the blunt knife. You got up from your seat, you gently grabbed his hand and lowered the opener. 

“You may be the best boss in Gotham, but you can’t fool me.” You framed the sides of his face with your hands. Oz chuckled, he really couldn’t fool you if he tried. 

You leaned forward and gave him a kisses all along his scar as you gently caress the back of his head. 

“You’ll always be the most handsomest man in Gotham too, especially to me, always. No matter what anyone says…even what you tell yourself!” 

Oz couldn’t help but give you a small sideways smirk. He wrapped his arms around you so you were sitting in his lap, as he held you close. 

He kissed your temple before he said, “I guess I can’t argue with you on that sweetheart.”

Gotham Penguin:

It took years for Oswald to learn to turn the jeers and cracks about his appearance into something empowering. Now, whenever people speak of the Penguin, it’s in a reverent tone, not someone to be taken lightly…

However there’s nothing to completely seize the nagging criticisms of one’s own self. Especially now, not only is he short in stature with a limp leg but a new plump stomach after a decade in Blackgate. 

Whenever he hears people speaking about his appearance in a hushed tone, he’s quick to silence them with a stare that could kill, but he would be lying if he told himself it didn’t get under his skin. 

You noticed at dinner he was particularly tense. His gloved hands clenching and un-clenching. You gulped a sip of your drink. This could be because of a number of things…Nygma, Gordon, this…bat person that’s recently been showing up…

“Oz…?” 

He inhales and looks up to you giving you a tight smile, “yes, dear?” 

“A penny for your thoughts?”

Oswald scoffed. “Oh, it’s nothing for you to worry about darling..” 

“Oswald.” You got up from the other end of the dinner table and kneeled beside him. 

His back straightened as you approached and spoke his full name. You stared longingly into his eyes, as if looking for the answers past his irises and into his mind. 

“Okay, okay…I’m just…a bit annoyed of certain comments made about my…appearance.” 

Your eyes widened, you didn’t expect that. You leaned up off your haunches, wrapped your arms around his neck and gave him a deep kiss. 

“They could never measure up to the feats you’ve conquered and will conquer again. Let them say what they wish…they’re just pathetic low lives with no ambition than to be menaces.”

Oswald grabbed your hand and kissed the palm of it, as your other hand caressed his cheek. 

“Besides,” you giggled. “You’ll always look handsome in my eyes, no matter what.” 

Oz beamed proudly at that. You were right. Let them say what they wanted, with his wits and you by his side…he’ll be king again in no time.

BTAS Penguin:

Oswald thought surely with you by his side, these tiny materialistic frets that haunted him would subside. However, that wasn’t the case. 

Oswald stared holes into his webbed hands. He glanced back up to the mirror to grimace at his pointed nose. Then he looked towards his rotund stomach that bumped into the table of the vanity. 

Surely, you just pitied him. He’s gone so long without someone to love him…what makes him appealing now? What else could have drawn you to him other than feeling sorry for him. 

You ran into the bedroom when you heard a loud crashing sound.

“Ozzie, are you-oh..what happened?” 

Oswald sat at the vanity with his fist bleeding and shards of glass littered on the desk. 

“Oh, um, uh…I-I-” Oz came out of hisl haze and witnessed the manifestation of his loathing. “-I-I don’t..”

You didn’t think twice as you ran out to grab the first aid kit in the bathroom and brought it back. You told him to hold still as you carefully removed some shards from his fist, before disinfecting and patching him up. 

“Ozzie..what…”

“Why are you with me?”

You looked up at him and he had a solemn look on his face. He was serious, he was unsure. 

“I-I love you, Oswald, that's why. You mean the world to-”

“But look at me!” 

He sighed, exasperated. 

You held his hands in yours, the hands you knew he was disgusted by. “I wouldn’t want anybody’s hands to hold mine.  I wouldn’t want anyone else’s nose to kiss…” To validate that fact you gave the tip of his nose a sweet peck. 

“I love you for you and who you are…”

Oswald gave you a small lopsided smile. “And I you, my dove…how foolish of me to think otherwise.” 

You embraced him. “It’s okay, darling. I’ll always be here to remind you.”

One Bad Day Penguin:

He finally did it. 

He got the Iceberg Lounge back. 

So why, did he still feel so…hesitant…anxious. 

Oswald looked himself over once more in his full length mirror. He straightened his hat again for probably the uptenth time. 

Did…did he put on more weight since his absence? He did have to squeeze into this suit. 

He jumped at the sound of his office door opening as it hit the wall. 

“Oswald! Are you ready? Everyone’s waiting!” You were elated to have Oswald back and see him back where he belonged. 

Yet, he didn’t look the same. 

“I-uh-yeah…I’ll be out in a minute sweetness.” 

You walked over behind him. You draped your arms across his chest and pulled him into an embrace. 

“You okay, Ozzie?” 

“I-yeah-I just…you know…image issues I guess. I don’t recall looking this rough…even when I lost everything.” 

You smiled at him through the mirror. “You wanna know what I see?”

He chuckled. “Sure.”

“I see a man who stood up against all odds, not once, not twice, but throughout his entire life. And he did it all while throwing a name back into the faces of those that tried to drag him down with that same name.” 

You gave him a peck on the cheek. “Not to mention doing it all while looking like the most ruggedly handsome man in Gotham.” 

“You really think that of me, sweetness?” 

“Of course, always have and always will. Now come on, your guests are waiting to welcome their beloved host back.” 

You stepped away from him and held out your hand to him. Oswald looked up at you with newfound pride and confidently took your hand as you walked out of the office.

The Batman (2004) Penguin:

No matter how much Ozzie tried to talk himself into being an absolute catch…deep down he knew better. 

He is a short, pudgy, penguin with bright spiky orange hair that was receding and sharp gremlin-like teeth. Oz wasn't any Bruce Wayne…just a…well…freak. 

Most days he was able to not care, but everyone has their lows. The first thing that brings him down is his looks and just how little of a chance he actually had at the life he felt he deserved.

"Ozzie?!" You were shaking the man by the shoulder, trying to get his attention. 

"Gah- W-what?" He asked, slightly disjointed from the present reality and the cold truth that plagued his mind constantly below the confident facade. 

"Just wanted to let you know that supper is ready…are you okay?" 

"Y-yeah.." he grumbled. "Just peachy.." Oz began waddling his way to the small dining table. 

You looked down at him as he held his head low, a depressed look on his face. You immediately picked him up and had him properly face you. 

"Hey! Hey! What's all this about? Lemme go!"

"Oswald…" 

Oz immediately cringed when you used his full name and not the short nickname version.

"It's nothin…all right…just having a bad day is all…" 

It all made sense, if it's not for Batman causing a bad day, it's usually his own insecurities. You gently lifted him up closer to your face. You gave him a kiss on his forehead and the tip of his nose. 

"I'm sorry you're having a bad day, Ozzie…but know this, you're absolutely adorable to me…the most handsome man I know!" You rubbed your nose gently against his from side to side before placing him back on his feet. 

Ozzie placed his hand on his nose and forehead. A small smile soon crept onto his face and turned into a grin. So what if he didn't look like that pretty boy Bruce Wayne, if you thought he was handsome that's all that mattered.

Batman Unlimited Penguin:

So much for aging with grace. Oswald doubted he had any to begin with. He was fairly certain his life had been hell since he spoke his first word.

Constantly through every waking moment, he was mocked, teased, bullied for something out of his control. What was the point of continuing to go through life as a decent person when all anyone ever saw you as was an…an animal. Unnatural. Horrendous. 

The leering stares and hushed remarks got to him more than they usually did today. All he wanted was to come and see you, but he couldn’t catch a break it seemed. 

Your wide bright smile did little to lift his spirits when you welcomed him into your home. 

You could tell something was off, but you weren’t sure if you should press the matter or just try and make him forget about it. 

“Oh! Oz you’re just in time! I was going to try out this new…”

He slumped on your catch, he stared into the floorboards as if studying the lines and cracks in it. Oz didn’t even notice you’ve stopped talking. 

“Ozzie..”

“Oswald!” 

Oz squawked in shock. “W-Wha-What?” 

“What’s wrong, you seem…upset.” You went and sat next to him. 

Oz shrugged. “It’s-It’s nothing…not anything I haven’t dealt with before.” 

You hummed. “Perhaps…but you didn’t have me before…maybe I can help?” You offered a cute smile. 

Oswald couldn’t help but mirror your sweet smile with one of his own. “It’s really nothing, my dear. It was just…a normal day of being…cruelly mocked by the public is all…”

He chuckled pathetically, “you’d think I would be used to it by now.” 

“Oswald, nobody deserves to be harrassed like that! Especially about something beyond their control.” 

You put your hands on his shoulders and squeezed them, reassuringly. “If someone has to beat you down to make themselves look bigger it’s because they think low of themselves. And if they wanna miss out on a dashing man like you, then that’s on them.”

You leaned in and gave him a loving kiss on his cheek. 

Oswald relaxed instantly, smiling warmly back. He didn’t need any approval from anyone else, as long as he had you.

The Penguins Reacting To Reader Squishing Their Faces

Arkhamverse Penguin:

Don’t get him wrong, he absolutely loves the adoration. Any touch of yours is a blessing to him. After being handed the cold, judgmental, harsh hand of reality for so long for someone the likes of him, he welcomes your touches and all they entail. Caresses, squishes, pats, massages, loves them all. 

Maybe, just maybe, do it when he’s not having a meeting with his crew. He doesn’t care what anyone says, but it’s hard to take him seriously when you’re sitting next to him squishing his cheeks. 

“Love, please…as much as I love it when you touch me…I’ve got business to tend do.”

Reevesverse/Farrell Penguin:

Okay, but good luck trying to squish his face, cause nine times out of ten he’s probably squishing yours. He loves to grab your face with his index finger and thumb pressing against your cheeks and drag you into a kiss. You face is so squished your lips are already puckered up and ready to be kissed upon.

Whenever you do manage to squish his face in between your hands, he’s beaming with happiness and adoration for you. He likes it when you run your thumbs just below his eyes, no doubt massaging some bags there that have developed. Just another sweet way you have of taking a little bit of the load off his shoulders. 

You smiled down sweetly at him as you continue to rub your thumbs along his cheeks. Occasionally squeezing them. 

“I swear sweetheart. I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve a touch as sweet as yours…” He grabs one of your hands and kisses the palm of it. 

Gotham Penguin:

Wait, what? W-What…oh you’re, you’re squeezing his face now. Um why? Poor boy is mad confused, it is going to take sometime for him to warm up to the prospect. He just feels silly about it, like you’re treating him like a child. 

However, he can’t deny he enjoys the way your eyes light up at the close proximity of your faces and how your hands ultimately warm his usually cooler face. It takes some time for him to get used to it, but once he does, every time you do it it makes his day infinitely better. 

“I-I think I’m beginning to understand the appeal..” He muttered one morning, when you give him his daily cuteness aggression squishes. He will actively try and do it in return, and you’re over the moon when he does. 

BTAS Penguin:

“Oh, oh, yes, dove?” 

At first, he thinks you’re just trying to get his attention. When you tell him you just wanted to squish his face cause he was just too cute, he’s instantly blushing. He’s chuckling gleefully, as he holds your hands to his face so they can stay there longer. 

He will never grow weary of how you show him your affections, it’s unlike anything he’s ever experienced before and you always manage to surprise him in the best ways. I can also see him coming up to you and grabbing your wrists and bringing your hands to his face. Instant stress relief your touch brings him. 

“Mind if I borrow your touch, it’ll just be for a minute, my dove.” How could you not squish his face after that, once you do his small smile grows into a proud grin. 

TNBA Penguin: 

He chuckles, “well, what’s the cause of all this?” He puts one hand up to hold on of your hands cupping his cheeks. 

“I can’t help it, Ozzie. You’re just so darn cute!” You squeal softly, squishing his cute face.

This Oswald is very keen on keeping a sophisticated…cool, calm, and collected image. However, he can’t even help absolutely melting at your admission for your sentimental gesture. He absolutely revels in your touch. Beaming proudly and hopelessly in love. 

Another pengy that appreciates the devotion and affection but also…not while he’s busy. If he’s running around tending to his club or having another interrogation with Batman, may not be the best time. But best believe, he’d love nothing more than for your hands to be all over him later though.  He’d also be glad to return the favor tenfold. 

Telltale Penguin:

“Ugh, love, Y/N…really?” 

This pengy is the epitome of “stop it, it’s annoying. I don't like it,” but he actually loves it and you know him well enough to know this. His eyebrows aren’t furrowed, he doesn’t have his usual annoyed scowl on his face (which you find kind of hot, but you don’t dare let him know, he wouldn’t let you live it down). He will roll his eyes and try to form a frown, but you notice the miniscule smirk. 

He appreciates it even more when he comes back and you give him the same amount of attention when his face isn’t all that pretty. Running and fighting in underground boxing tournaments means he comes home with shiners and bruises to his face. 

Just maybe don’t squeeze too hard. 

“Ah-Ah, love, I-I appreciate the gesture, I do, but maybe wait until I’m healed up, yeah?” 

One Bad Day Penguin: 

Oswald’s chuckling, extremely pleased. “What’re you up to, sweetness?” 

You giggled back, wrapping his face in your hands, adoringly. You started kissing his head, cheeks, nose, anywhere you could reach. Oz chuckled some more. 

“What? Can’t I show my man how much I love ‘im?” You leaned your forehead against his. Your hands still periodically squeezing his skin. 

Oswald lives for these moments. He never imagined in his lifetime he’d get the chance to be loved unconditionally. You still manage to surprise him with your gestures, words, and actions. Even after going through the thick and thin of it all, you were still there beside him. You were still his. 

“Yeah, you can show him,” he softly chuckled. “You never seize to amaze me, doll.”

The Batman (2004):

Listen, listen…if it’d been ANYONE else…he would have their head. 

When it’s you though… 

You cup your hands around his cheeks, squish the cute cheek skin there. When you get so enthralled in your touches and kisses, you accidentally lift him up to your level. You’ve literally lifted him up from his feet. And he’s absolute putty in your hands. The redness of his face rivals the orange in his hair.  He adores this, being absolutely suffocated in your love. 

He isn’t ashamed to plop his head in your hands any chance they’re open and free, and you’re more than willing to give him what he wants. All the squishes, kisses, rubs, and everything in between. 

Oz closes his eyes to fully envelope in your hold. “Mm…a guy can get used to this.” 

Batman Unlimited:

He’s sort of confused. Taken aback. Not to sure how to react to your gesture. 

You come up behind him and instantly frame his face with your hands. Not being able to resist the temptation to squeeze the adorable cheeks underneath your thumbs. 

“Uh…w-what’s this about, darling?” 

“Oh nothing, Ozzie. You just looked so cute, I couldn’t help it.” You giggled. 

C-cute? You found him cute? 

You two have been together for awhile, but it still surprises Oswald just how much you genuinely love him. You never ceased to amaze him, he knows who he is…what he looks like. He knows he’s not the easiest man in the world to love, but yet here you were. Squishing his face, kissing his head, telling him he was cute. 

He took one of his hands and covered it over yours, as he leans into your touch. Oswald reaches out and cups one of your cheeks with his other hand. 

“And you, my darling, are absolutely precious.”
