As an actor, what are you aiming for? To entertain? To enlighten? On a personal level it’s about the challenge, finding a role that will challenge me. On a bigger level, it is about entertaining and maybe educating an audience about something, making them feel something that they might never have felt themselves – loss, murder, heartbreak, discovery, realisation of something massive.

Have you been asked your opinion on live-action B&TB yet? I know there are many mixed opinions on the film such as the casting choice or singing, but I enjoyed it. A few to name are Dan Stevens, the characters, the songs, and the costumes. The only dislike I have is the placement of "Evermore" because it interrupted the suspense between Maurice and Gaston. Instead of cutting to Villeneuve where Maurice is about to be sent to a mental institute, we got a 3:14 song. I still love this movie! ❤️

Hi. Thanks for the questions. I’ve spoken a lot on tumblr about Dan and Beauty and the Beast so (erm…I’ll try at least) I won’t rant too much… Nor will delve into the greater fan issues with the live action movie –as Isobel Crawley would say “that’s a separate conversation” lol… 

I loved them all… I loved Emma (and yes she does sing…see the answer about her not doing so by Josh, Dan, and Luke in France…

I never saw the Disney animated film so I have no preconceived ideas about it, the dress, the characterization of the Beast/Belle relationship…. I went to see Beauty and Beast in March 2017 with very new eyes… it was in IMAX and I was with a great friend (Hi Lily) and I had a wonderful time. We saw it twice as a matter of fact. Eventually I saw the film six times in various formats– I will say the very very best showing I saw was in a theater in New York City with the most fantastic sound system and glorious screen. Unfortunately if you did see it on a smaller screen with muddled sound I can see why one might not like the movie as it was meant to be seen. In glorious HD which brings out all the details they so painstakingly worked on.  [thanks @legioned for gif)

We can all nitpick… of course we can! It’s tumblr after all… lol… but I choose not to with Beauty and the Beast. I love it. Unconditionally. 

I never thought the placement of Evermore was wrong… it comes right as Belle is leaving but before she arrives in town to help Maurice.. it seemed the perfect place for such a song of longing and loss.. which Dan nails to perfection. He worked on it so hard…Susie helping…his children singing along as he repeated it over and over

So his hard work paid off in spades to the benefit of everyone associated with Beauty and the Beast…because again (as I’ve said before… see this vid for proof  https://usat.ly/2rgLol5)

Dan Stevens worked his ass off doing a damned fine job on Beauty and the Beast under very difficult conditions. He learned the voice of the Beast to understand his despair, his unhappiness… 

He learned to waltz, to walk, to stand for hours on end on set in 10 inch steel toed stilts while also suffocating in the lycra muscle suit so that the cgi masters at Disney could transform HIS MOVEMENTS into the Beasts… 

He did everything that was asked of him.  AND SO MUCH MORE.  To make fun or say otherwise is to misunderstand Dan’s worth ethic as well as his dedication as an actor… 

He worked with brand new technology to create facial capture of the Beast…but even in the mo cap or - as his daughter called it --the hippo suit with spots HE WAS THERE FOR EMMA…his performance REAL… affecting… beautiful…. no makeup..nothing to hide behind… just him being in the moment as the Beast realizes Belle’s about to leave him… 

as Lily says…it all comes down to this. This is Dan… 

so yes silly interviewers who say oh you make a facial expression and it “feels” real… UH???? As gentleman Dan so politely points out…

Because that’s his face… done first in the hippo suit, then again in the MOVA cage and then the voice… I’ll never stop saying and explaining this… every facial expression, every muscle, every pore is captured in the MOVA and recreated on the Beast.. Dan “conquered the technology and he had fun with it….I”m in awe of Dan.” (Bill Condon)

and while I”m ranting ( you knew that was going to happen right???) it goes the same as the Prince… The Beast is the Prince…the Prince is the Beast… so as we learn to look beyond the exterior we are supposed to look beyond not just the Beast’s supposed hideousness but also the full on too pretty for words Disney Prince at the end and see the witty, kind, and supportive and loving person underneath…a prince and beast who’s learned life’s hard lessons and won the hand of an intelligent, capable woman … I celebrate along with everyone at the end… [@legioned gif]

anyways… I love the question… I love answering.. I loved the publicity tour of the cast… I miss silly Dan so much…
